5.3.14 Exhale Roseville meet

2014-05-07T19:01:00.000-07:00

Last weekend was an attempt to get off my ass and be slightly productive again. I will admit: I have been very lazy lately. Lazy as in for the past year of putting the camera on the shelf and enjoying other hobbies. And as a result, I have become sloppy with my photography. Whoops. Time to get back in the game.

In Roseville is a weekly car meet at a hookah lounge not too far off from the Roseville Galleria, and it was my first time attending. The meet was, as expected, full of enthusiasts for various brands of autos. Aside from the typical burnouts as people came to and left the area, it was an enjoyable experience.

I know; white balance isn't even coordinated with the other photos. I decided to experiment this time around, white balance included.

While I did not get the chance to take shots of every car (and truck/motorcycle) out there, rest assured I will be back again soon! Maybe better equipped as well to compensate for the lighting. Until then. Keep those rides clean, and drive on.

Sacramento 2nd Annual ClubLexus Meet & BBQ

2013-04-29T22:56:00.000-07:00

First off, a big shout out to the guys who hosted and executed this event so well. It was a pleasure to be able to participate in the 916 caravan to Folsom Lake. And while I'm pretty sure that no one will remember me (the guy with the dusty old Benz), it was great to meet all of you and share our enthusiasm for nice rides. I also enjoyed snapping shots of everyone's cars, from the Sacramento caravan meet-up all the way to the parking lot at the lake.

Props to Spaceracer (Aniket) for these rolling shots!

Hope to see you all at future meets!

Sacramento 2nd Annual ClubLexus Meet & BBQ [Sneak peek]

2013-04-28T22:11:00.002-07:00

Great day at the 2nd annual CL meet in Sacramento. Lots of chill people gathered with beautiful cars. It was also great meeting the enthusiasts local to the 916; my time up here has been relatively short, but the car scene in (inland) northern California has definitely been picking up.

Here's a preview of the meet. Many more to come.

New acquisition! Canon 17-40L

2013-04-16T22:44:00.003-07:00

Huzzah! The first post in over a year. And what better way than to begin with a picture of a new lens?

I'll admit, the lack of variety of my lenses did keep me from going out and taking more photos. Not a good excuse, but it's still an excuse. And it's not the only one. Time constraints and location kept me from being able to spend some dedicated time to photography. Okay, the location thing is a bad excuse; you can take photos anywhere. But I digress.

Waiting just six days for shipping felt like an eternity; a good friend of mine lent me his 17-40L on a few occasions for me to test out and see if I liked it; and as you can tell, I liked it enough to get one for myself.

I plan on making this my walk-around lens, as it clearly dwarfs the kit 18-55mm II that came with the early Rebels. I also contemplated on the Canon 10-22mm, which counts as an ultrawide lens for APS-C sensor bodies, but I realized that I may be upgrading soon, and then the 10-22 becomes pointless to keep. But don't get me wrong; the 10-22 would definitely be a joy to have either way.

A hastily taken picture of my new Canon EF 17-40mm L; I was too giddy to take a proper photo...

A good first test for this new lens will be either at a local car meet or around the river, somewhere up in northern California... Stay tuned!

3.19.12 San Diego Zoo

2012-03-21T16:44:00.002-07:00

Allow me to begin by stating that I haven't been to the San Diego Zoo in over ten years. I pretty much had no memory of the zoo from my previous adventures here. That being said, the experience was amazing.

Although there was a drizzle during the first hour of the visit, the rest of the day was free of any further downpour. Most of the animals came out of their dens and began to go about their daily activities: eating, playing with their siblings, posing for tourists, sunbathing in the small amounts of direct sunlight that would pierce through the clouds, or taking a nap out in the open.

Just gazing off into the skies, probably imagining the clouds into familiar shapes and figures...

A shot of aforementioned skies

Flamingo paradise, sharing space with native ducks! Fun fact: native birds to San Diego and further come to live at the zoo on their own free will, because it truly is a paradise.

Talk about photogenic. He came as close as possible to us and posed while I was snapping shots of him.

This is another interesting one: something (or someone) took his attention away from the camera the moment i took the picture!

Yet another rare shot, this little fellow decided to sing to me!

Can you see the subtle smile? At least, that's what I can make of it.

At first glance, they look like a mix between a bear and a sheep! What they really are? I forgot!

Sitting proud atop a tall statue along the walkway.

This Zebra did not move an inch the entire time I was there. It didn't shake its tail, wiggle its ears, or look anywhere else. I wonder!

Quack~

They were all paying attention to one of their siblings on the other side!

Sitting in the shade, relaxing and watching their children attentively...

Taking a nap in the sunlight...

I believe this one took a nap while sitting upright? Didn't make any movements either, and his eyes seemed to be closed.

"Psst... Are the humans gone yet?"

An elephant waiting at the gate for his playmate to come out!

For the longest time, I thought this frog was real. -______-

Sitting at the highest point, relaxing with the "I don't even care" expression.

The only one that came outside of his home during the late morning.

A Wallabee! Cousin to the Kangaroo, but much smaller. Cute!

Pumbaa C:

Taking a nap after a full day of playing with his friends.

This bear took the time to climb above a three foot tall tree stump to pose for us! Another photogenic natural~

It's lunchtime for this Giraffe

Reaching as far as possible for that branch!

Emu! First time seeing one in real life.

Cool cat playing it easy. He has a dog guide to learn how to be more sociable!

Rhino enjoying his afternoon nap. He woke up later and began playing with another Rhino!

This little baby was barely six inches tall!

Bees. Lots of them.

Perched ten feet high, this colorful fellow didn't flinch at anything.

Unfortunately, there were a few who decided to stay indoors the entire day, including the lions and tigers. The Pandas were not available for exhibit either, as they were out for research. At least, that's what they told us. But no matter, I am thoroughly convinced that I will be back again very soon.

We got race cars over here!

Waking up at 5:00am on a Sunday morning was uneventful, at best. Many of us barely got any sleep, but thankfully it was just enough. After getting ready and packing our belongings, we were on the road, ready for an exciting day at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway.

We stopped at a gas station to fill up, get breakfast, and make final preparations before heading into the track. And then the fun day began...

Imports@UCI 6th Annual Car Show [Part I]

2012-02-11T21:23:00.000-08:00

The Imports@UCI Car Show on February 11, 2012 marks the sixth time the car club has hosted this event. Gathering popularity quickly, all car club chapters from different UCs and Cal-States have been invited to participate and meet their fellow enthusiasts. I love coming to this meet especially, since there are always new cars that show up with unique and perhaps even exotic cars along with their modifications.

Being hosted most noticeably by K&N Engineering, the majority of the prizes were vouchers for free air filters, easily a $50~$100 value. I actually won a set last year, and to this day I am still running that set of filters on my car! Cleaning them is another story.

Imports@CPP 2/2/12 Meet

2012-02-03T11:49:00.000-08:00

Off the 60 freeway at the corner of Valley and Grand Avenue, the In-N-Out parking lot serves as the weekly rendezvous for the Imports@CPP members to gather, eat, socialize and share their love & enthusiasm for cars. It was definitely a pleasure to meet everyone and see the nice rides they brought out. I was definitely more than pleased to take these photos of the meet!

If any of these cars are yours, post up so I know whose they belong to!

My neighbor has one that looks almost exactly like this, minus the Smurf decal. And the paint color. Well, I guess i'm just referring to the teeth on the front bumper!

Look at that front lift! Hahaha! <3

Looks in great condition for its year!

These two were hiding on the other side of the parking lot!

If it wasn't consensual, that would certainly be a problem.

If you guys like the pics, feel free to bookmark my blog and check back every few days! The blog will be far more active than it was last month! And once again, it was great to meet you guys out there! Hope to see even more of you out there the next time.

Random Stroll in the 626...

2012-01-28T17:04:00.000-08:00

So I found a few photos hiding in my SD Card back from last November. It actually seemed as if it was much longer since I had taken these photos, when some friends and I were at a local muffler shop in the 626. It would be unfair to keep them to myself, so here they are for your viewing!

Drive@UCR Winter Meet #2

2012-01-26T14:05:00.000-08:00

Okay, I know. It's been a while since my last post. But hey, here we are again, back in action with some exciting new photos from Drive@UCR's Winter Meet #2!

I had the pleasure of being able to come out this time around to snap some pics of some nice rides in the 951, many of them that I have never seen before. Times change, and so do the members as new people join the club to come together and share their enthusiasm for cars (and trucks, & motorcycles, you know the deal)! It was great meeting you guys, and I sure hope to see you again at the next meet!

And here we go... I hope you guys enjoy!

Viper! Haven't seen this around campus often.

I do Like!

Headlights make it all the more aggressive...

Red C Coupe with wheels! Dropped too?

Mismatched wheels is the new trend!

I try my best to take photos of all the cars that are there, but if I miss yours, I'll be sure to get it next time!

AutoCon & DTM Autobody EotY Meet

2011-12-11T13:24:00.000-08:00

Here we go! The majority of the photos are now uploaded. It was most unfortunate I could not attend AutoCon yesterday, or they would be up here right now as well. But here's the next best thing: the pre-meet before that was before the actual AutoCon show!

This night was one of the larger meets, as almost the entire parking lot was filled up. And that does not usually happen. And as expected, the police arrived shortly after to break up the meet. It was pretty entertaining though, as he would drive by and tell people to "get moving." Everyone said "okay," but as soon as the cop drove around to tell other people to leave, no one would do anything. This happened for a good five minutes, which was fun to watch.

Then the Officer said he would call tow trucks soon. Then everyone bounced.

Yeah, I'll fix the lens flare next time.

Decepticon?!

Not a big fan of the illest badge, but it does look cleaaann.

Red Assault @ AutoCon & DTM Autobody EotY meet

2011-12-11T03:26:00.000-08:00

So yeah, the end of the year meet was a week ago, and the actual AutoCon event just happened today (which I wasn't able to attend, sadly). But hey, finally found the spare time to do some editing. Better late then never!

Lo and behold, I found a few rides that were just beautifully red. Red, red, red. The color is outstanding! Here are the ones that caught my eye back at the meet, before it got shut down by the cops, a consistent occurrence anytime a gathering is held at the Cha for Tea parking lot...

Full set will be up soon! Now if only I was able to go to AutoCon...

Jason's s14 @ AutoCon & DTM Autobody meet

2011-12-05T01:58:00.000-08:00

Wow, so many stickers on that windshield... Jason, how do you drive like that and still see? And is that even legal?! LOOOOL

Anyways, I couldn't sleep so I decided to edit a few pics from the AutoCon & DTM Autobody end of the year meet. That was one of them! Expect the full set soon!

Ferrari F430 rolling shot

2011-12-05T00:48:00.000-08:00

So I forgot to post this one up, but I thought it was a (somewhat) rare treat. During the drive with PureDrifter to the LA Auto Show on the 60 West, this F430 crept right past us with blinding speed. I had my camera on hand and he had to slow down a little during traffic, so I figured: "why not?" Snapped a few shots, and luckily one of them turned out pretty good!

I guess it's plain to see that I like F430s. Because they're just that awesome.

Now to find a 458 Italia to take rolling shots of...

Drive@UCR Fall Meet #5

2011-12-01T17:49:00.000-08:00

So here it is, the last Drive@UCR Fall Meet. I Must say, it was windier and colder than all of the previous meets combined. But despite the unfriendly climate, the meet went on as planned and turnout was still great. Members drove over from the 951, 909, and 626 to meet up, hangout, get boba and donuts! Great to see everyone alive and kicking, especially with finals so close, starting this Saturday! Good luck everyone!

Elliott's new CR-Z! What's the plan for mods?

Justin, what's next for the mod list?!

Double vision? =_=

New mod: projectors! There's always something different every time I see this ek.

So who has tofu in their cars? lol

So wheel gap is the new style? #LOL

You can definitely tell it was windy out there that night... Look at the trees!

Nice wheels, benzos!

Loving the fitment here

Once again, good luck with finals!

Automotive: Corvette drag leads to car crash

2011-11-27T10:45:00.000-08:00

So apparently over Thanksgiving, some cool guys in a C5 & C6 thought it would be awesome to have a drag from a dig. You know, with pedestrians, traffic, in broad daylight. Oh but that's irrelevant, because it's two corvettes that are going to race. Totally legal.

Well, here's what happens. Watch starting from 0:40!

Check out what the American muscle guys have to say about it~

Best part is, warrants are issued for their arrest! One of them is 23 years old, and apparently the other guy is a known scammer. What fun.

2011-11-21T22:34:00.000-08:00

Here it is! The final set of photos from the 2011 LA Auto Show! Here we have Fiat, Kia, Ford, Honda, Bentley, Aston Martin, Bugatti, Lamborghini, and the aftermarkets! MANY amazing rides on display here. If you haven't gone already, I strongly recommend you check it out when you have the time.

This is also the biggest set of the three! Enjoy! :]

I was actually surprised myself to see Nintendo there, promoting Mario Kart 7 for the DSi! Played a round against PureDrifter in multiplayer; safe to say, he was doing what you would expect around the entire track: drifting.

Oh, just another shot of the LF-A. Because it's that awesome.

2011-11-20T18:55:00.000-08:00

Alright! Finally had some down time to review my own photos and edit some. Surprising how when you finally have something you want to do, you get loaded with a dozen other different things to do first.

So I went with some Drive@UCR members to the LA Auto Show this past friday, and I must say, for opening day it was pretty packed. I would first off like to say that I sympathize with other photographers who try to get pictures without people walking right in between you and the car, opening the doors, and spending an eternity there, and whatnot. But patience is a virtue, as sooner or later, they will leave, and there will be that split second where the perfect picture can be taken.

Without further ado, here is the first set of photos from the Los Angeles Auto Show!

Sports: Chargers vs Packers at Qualcomm Stadium 11.06.11

2011-11-14T23:24:00.000-08:00

So who's a football fan?! Gooooo Chargers!

Too bad they lost.

With much thanks to Yuta, we got front row seats to the football game last weekend to see the Chargers versus the Packers! While it ended up raining the first half the game, it did not get any worse than a heavy drizzle. But nevertheless, the day was filled with fun, food, and yelling.

I borrowed Yuta's DSLR along with his 17-50mm f/2.8 aspherical lens for the photos this time around. While the wide angle sufficed for the day, it may have been better to bring the 55-250mm zoom lens as well, so I could have taken more close-up photos of the game. But no matter, it was a great chance to experiment with the new lens.

We began our trek to San Diego in a downpour of rain all the way from Rowland. About an hour and a half of aggravating traffic later, we got close to the Qualcomm Stadium, so we stopped by In-N-Out to get lunch.

Brenda's happy that she finally gets to eat lunch before the game.

Yuta is too!

We were just kidding, Brenda doesn't get to eat. (jk lol)

In-N-Out is good at any time of the day. :)

Traffic at the stadium itself was HORRIBLE. I mean, worse than the 101 during rush hour. Ten feet covered per minute. But instead, we found a better solution, and got dropped off to the game! Yet we made the fatal mistake of bringing our umbrellas, which are NOT allowed in the stadium for any reason whatsoever. So we did the only thing we could do; leave it at the entrance, with hopes no one will take it. Fat chance, huh. Turns out they got stolen. All four of our umbrellas. :(

One side of the parking lot. So many tailgaters, apparently they arrive as early as 5AM?! That's what I call hardcore fans.

Front row! :]

Second quarter, right after the Packers intercepted TWICE and got upset touchdowns on each of them.

Ready for kickoff!

Because he was the only player facing us. Sigh.

One of my favorite pics of the day!

The clouds decided to leave after the game ended. Sigh.

The architecture of the stadium itself is quite interesting.

Thanks for the ride civic!

Although it would have been nice to see the Chargers win and take down the Packer's winning streak, it was still a great experience as it was the first NFL game I have ever been to. Next time, Chargers (Yep, I'm bandwagoning it)!!

Thank you again Yuta!

P.S. I am not done uploading all the photos. Check back soon for some more!
