Who Will Win Belize's 2012 Municipal and General Elections?

On March 7, 2012, Belize will host both its new Municipal and General Elections. This leads me to the big question: Who will win Belize's 2012 Municipal and General Elections?

From north to south and east to west all I see is blue and red and nothing more. As the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the People's United Party (PUP) strongly show their colors, the Belizean community once again prepare to elect their new leader.

Who will win an elections is not something we can predict in a flash. The election process is tedious and one that requires time an effort. If I can recall of the results of the 2008 General Elections, the United Democratic Party delivered very impressive numbers. Will they repeat those numbers this year? Will there be a new Government? Approximately five years have passed and like time, people also change. These days you never know who is red or who is blue and that is what makes the elections so exciting.

Nobody knows who will win the elections of 2012 but from what I have heard on the streets, this year's elections results promises to show some surprises and perhaps none at all. You have the word, you have the right and you will decide who will win on that day. So everyone come out tomorrow to your polling station and let your voice be heard.

I wish everyone a safe Elections Day and that may God Bless us all.

This past week Belize became the center of attention all over the world. This time it wasn't our famous barrier reef that caught everyone's attention, this time we owe it all to Prince Harry of Wales. He was sent on a world tour by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. His arrival on Friday, last week, was a party that he will probably not forget for the days to come.

We all know that he is a part guy so I must commend on the great job done to entertain him. After a few talks and welcome speech, he geared himself with a few drinks and even danced to some nice Belizean music later that night. Prince Harry can't be more happier to have visited Belize. We all wish him a safe tour.

Is Belmopan Ready for the Arrival of Prince Harry Of Wales?

I notice Belmopan is very noisy today. The main cause being the long-awaited arrival of the most notorious Prince Harry of Wales. He is set to arrive in Belize tomorrow late in the afternoon. To be honest I am not too excited about his arrival but I see patrol cars training for what will be a quick ceremony to welcome the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II. I see people tidying up the place and whats not. I believe the city is ready for the arrival of Prince Harry but are you ready? Try not to miss it because according to other sources he will only be here for about a day.

Prince Harry is scheduled to arrive in Belize on Friday, March 2, 2012, at 4:25p.m. on board a private jet at the Phillip Goldson International Airport where he will be received with a salute from the Belize Defense Force and meet officials at the VIP Lounge, including the Prime Minister of Belize, Hon. Dean Barrow, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Francis Fonseca and British High Commissioner to Belize, Patrick Ashworth.

From there he departs to Belmopan where he will meet with the Governor General ofBelize, Sir Colville Young, when the commemorative stamps will be unveiled to the Prince. The major event where residents of Belize will be able to get a glimpse of the Prince will be at Belmopan’s Street Festival that will be open to the public. Prince Harry will deliver a speech on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II and the Cohune Walk will be re-named in honor of the Queen.

At the festival Prince Harry will be treated with traditional foods and presentations from the Mestizo, Creole and Garifuna cultures. The Street Festival will continue after the Prince’s expected departure at 8p.m.

The following day, Saturday, March 3, 2012, Prince Harry will be travelling to the OAS Adjacency Zone in the morning dealing with the children both from Belize andGuatemala, who participated in the OAS cultural program. He will interact with the children involved in the program and tour the immigration facility for an art exhibition.

The highlight of this day will be a visit to the Maya ruins of Xunantunich where he will be interacting with children from the Belize Special Olympics Program, immerse in the great Maya culture, enjoy musical and dance performances from Deer Dancers. After lunch the Prince will leave to the ferry crossing where he will present a Jubilee Canoe to the Ruta Maya Organization.

For the rest of the afternoon, Prince Harry departs to the Price Barracks, meet with the Belize National Coast Guard, BDF and BATSUB members. He will lay a wreath at a monument erected for British Soldiers who have passed away while on service inBelize, after which he is expected to leave Belize at 4p.m.

Introducing the D-Can Camera [Concept]

Of all the crazy concepts I have seen on the web this is by far my favorite. Jean-michel Bonnemoy talks about how traditional cameras all have the same "roll in the back" design and how his concept changes the whole perspective of cameras.

The D-Can Camera design is intented to reduce the volume of the device but at the same time keep all the functionality and controls that professional photographers are accustomed to. His idea states that camera are designed and built wrongly. If this were to be true then why are we so connected and in love with these gadgets that we are too blind to care about the design of it? The reality is that the more sophisticated the design of the camera is, the more we like it. There is a lot of work that has to be done about this concept but if Jean is right he is about to revolutionize the camera industry.

For now we wait but if the D-Can makes an impact on the camera industry I would not be surprised.

The photo above showing twin waterspouts offshore of Encinitas, California was observed in late September of 2007. These two funnels formed on a sultry afternoon in a weak weather system that pushed north from the Baja Californiaarea. As with a tornado, a waterspout is a rotating column of air that's suspended from a cumiloform parent cloud. If the rotation develops in the updraft of a supercell storm, it's considered to be tornadic. However, most spouts, like the pair above, aren't associated with thunderstorms at all but rather form in humid environments from the heat energyreleased when water vapor condenses. Such non-tornadic spouts are usually classified as F0 on the Fujita Scale.

Anniversaries are the lifeblood – but also the bane – of classical musicscheduling. A composer's 100th or 200th anniversary is a guarantee of extra performances, which is generally a good thing. But it's a reminder, too, that classical music is still terribly dependent on its past and insufficiently energised by its present. That's why, most of the time, musical anniversaries make my heart sink. I'm already dreading the overkill next year when Wagner and Verdi have their 200th anniversaries and Britten his 100th – even though I revere all three of them mightily.

But there are exceptions to every rule, and today is a good day to make an exception for Rossini. There are two excellent reasons for this inconsistency. The first is that today is 29 February, and Rossini was born on this day in 1792, so today is either his 220th or his 53rd anniversary, according to taste (not his 55th, please note, since there are no leap years in years ending in 00). Rossini has a good claim to be both the most famous and the most distinguished person to have a leap-year birthday – though the fine African-American soprano Reri Grist, one of the best Susannas and Oscars on disc, is another – she is 80 (or 19) today. That means we only get a quarter of the usual chances to celebrate Rossini, so no further excuse is really needed.
