New year and I have a bunch of new work in the studio. I am working on watercolors both in art and on furniture. This is the first watercolor titled Alive in a Spring Garden.

Spring garden flowers with bees and butterfly hand painted in this botanical art original by Laurie Rohner. The colors I chose for this painting range from creamy Daffodil yellows to Crocus purples with spring greens and soft Violet blues in the mix. Notice the bee tucked in the daffodil and a lazy butterfly on the leaf oh and don't miss the that other bee heading back to the hive, I guess. There is a hint of blue skies.

Now is the time for magic, woodland fairy magic. Let's be a wee bit imaginative and let the volatile chaos that swirls around us to evaporate if not for a second. The Dow in the New York stock exchange hit a record trading loss of 1000 points for a brief second. For just a second there was darkness and then light. Fairies are great at reminding us to not take life and things too seriously. Things never disappear they just change form. The wee woodland fairy house below is a perfect example. It has changed form. I added a few more bits and nature finds to the art studio house which makes it even more adorable. Is that even possible?

Don't you love this new look?

Watercolors are one of my favorite mediums and when I discovered I could use them on other things besides paper, my mind went wild. Now I am using watercolors on clay pots and painted furniture. There is a secret to my method but I think I will keep that to myself.

Hand Painted Writing Table Botanical Watercolor Landscape with Drawer

New Design. Hand painted cottage style writing table with drawer features a watercolor botanical landscape top. This table is from the late 1890's. I thought it screamed for an updated look that still keeps the roots of the table grounded with its wonderful honey brown stained legs and drawer.

The top is custom painted with my new watercolor technique. Dancing under a sky of blue are botanical flowers of hollyhock, daisies and thistles to name a few. The edges are hand distressed.

Not to worry the custom painting is finished with several layers of varnish and waxed. This is a well made sturdy table made of pine. Use this farmhouse table for writing or working on the computer or as a dressing table in the bedroom.

Hand painted clay pot with a landscape of garden flowers hand painted around the outside of the Italian terracotta pot. I painted an assortment of garden flowers from hollyhocks and yellow daisies to thistles and Queen Anne lace and a bumble bee.

This pot is a straight flare sided pot with a rolled rim. I see pansies in the future for this little gem of a pot. Great to give to mom or a birthday gift.

Just an Idea - I use clear antique dishes as saucers.

This is a custom handmade woodland fairy house sculpted from wood pine cones sea glass pebbles and natural finds.

Inside fairy art studio

An art studio for a woodland fairy to sit and create along side you, how magical is that? Inside there is an easel set for a fairy creation with a stool and behind are rolled up canvases. On the other side is a fairy computer and tablet with a few old fashioned books in the corner set upon a drift wood table with chair. The floor has a natural woven rug and on the back wall are cedar panels.

The roof is from branches and strewn across are pebbles, cones, sea glass, and raffia in a bow. The cones are separated and form shingles to help prevent the weather from coming in. The sides and back also have decorative cone shingles. I glue each and every piece you see in place by hand.

I will paint on any surface if at all possible with watercolors. Watercolors are underrated. I find when you combine watercolors and gouaches and apply them to a specially primed surface you can paint with them anywhere.

I work with hand painted illustration on painted furniture adding botanical flowers bees words and animals. Anything the furniture is telling me to paint. For the most part every piece of painted furniture speaks and I listen. Sometimes I will hold onto a chair dresser or even a board waiting for the whisper of what it is needed for the work. This week spring is coming. I have so many things blossoming in my studio. Now I have to find the time to photograph my work so I can share it with you.

I love this time of year, Spring. Is there anything better than exploring trails with a dog?

Something new I just added to the shop. This is a cute farmhouse wood pocket organizer painted a subtle sage spring green and just slightly aged to give it character.

Already a month into the new year and things are being created to meet my new vision I have for my studio.

I am so excited with this new direction. I guess you could call me a change addict. Creation is always changing. Our lives whether we like it or not always in flux and ever changing. Some things I could do without but mostly loving every fabulous moment. My dear mother would love to go outside on a very brisk cold day and say it makes me feel alive, that is how I feel with every nudge life creates for me. Change makes me feel alive.

I have changed things on this blog.

I am focusing on my illustrations. I am journeying down new roads and it was due to one simple phone call. Someone asking me about trees and illustrating her story. Wow never thought about illustrating but when I took a look closer I think I always have. I illustrate nature. On boxes, furniture, pillows, pendants and art all with that wonderful illustrator's eye. It took her asking to open my eyes and mind to something I am thrilled to embrace and explore. Ah...where will this path lead? Nope don't know but I am thinking my friends upstairs do.

With paint brushes, pencils, pens, paints and paper ready I am sketching and working on some new illustrations.

I am amazed at how much power one little word can have over how we may think about anything. I was listening to a new podcast at The Inspiring Artist, by speaker Samantha Bennett from The Organized Artist Company, I found fantastic ideas. The one that seemed to pop out today was to stop using but and insert and. Simple and so precise. Think about how many times a statement an action a dream is started only to find it fall away depleted and forgotten because of that tiny word but got in the way. For instance I want to sell my art BUT I have no experience. Now insert I want to sell my art and I have no experience. And becomes the connection to the answer and not the ending of your goal. No experience doesn’t mean your art isn’t any good and everyone has to start from somewhere.

As the new year progresses I will be adding new home decor, hand printed cards and journals, fairy houses and my original art.

I have decided to break free from Etsy - though I will keep some things there in my shop. But unless things change with their approach in how they handle there business and the CEO's flippant attitude towards the security of shop owners info I am finding a more suitable way market my business. I have a bunch of things stewing in my big marketing pot. I find with trial and error the best solutions for my business tend to eventually float to the top of the mix.

This is exciting. Where will this take me? I have mapped out a plan and along the way I will make the necessary course adjustments but where or how it all turns out for 2015? Only the stars know for sure.

They are capable of figuring out which tool to use for the appropriate job or task before them. They have an extensive language and they keep our neighborhoods clean from road kill. Nice work crows.

One of a kind custom sculpted woodland fairy houses covered with moss and furnished with fairy furniture are custom handmade one of a kind fairy sculptures from things I find in nature and enchanted woodland forests, moss, twigs, lichen, bark and and cones.

Twig Woodland Fairy House

Twig woodland fairy house sculpted handmade one of a kind magical whimsical nature art creation for home and garden. The fairy house is made from cedar and pine wood constructing the floor and walls with twigs from a downed dogwood tree for the roof.

Bark and pine cone is broken up and glued by hand into place on the walls and polished pebbles frame the back window. On the top is a bench for sunbathing or nighttime star gazing with a table and two stools on the top platform for a dreamy dinner any two whimsical fairies would love.

Inside there is a sofa or lounge bed table and chair with footrest. I love the pine wood pattern in this fairy furniture piece.

Handmade sculpted fairy house apartment comes with upstairs upholstered lounge to rest a fairies head and table on the upper level. There are steps leading up. The ground floor is complete with fairy art, table and chairs and a fabulous clay tiled floor. The outside is bark over natural cedar wood and the roof is layered with dogwood branches lichen and bits I found in nature. One of a kind fairy house sculpted by the hands of artist Laurie Rohner for Between The Weeds.

I hand create each piece I add to the woodland fairy house. On the one wall notice an original fairy artwork hanging. There is always room for your own decorating style which you can add.

CARING FOR YOUR NEW FAIRY HOUSE
All my houses are unique and custom crafted for the fairy living in the house. Woodland in nature is handmade from building the base to decorating the interiors. Nature inspired woodland sculpted art can be used outside or in. If placed outside expect only 1 maybe 2 years before the environment plays its part. Will last much longer inside and mist the houses, this keeps them from drying out. Keep out of direct sunlight.

These are my original designs and I hand craft each piece for my woodland fairy houses.
