Golden Isles Magazine - Wedding Feature!

2012 is proving to be amazing already! I have been honored with so many wonderful wedding photography inquiries from brides across the country and have booked several in the past few weeks.

A few of my local brides mentioned they saw an article about me and my own wedding in the current edition of the Golden Isles Magazine, which prompted them to seek out my wedding photography services. They were correct - that IS me in the magazine! I was so very honored to had been asked for an interview for GIM's Real Wedding article for this year's bridal edition of the mag. And what a beautifully written article it is, thanks to Amy Carter!

So what is it about this article that is attracting brides to the girl behind Jennifer Leigh Photography? I think it's pretty simple. Besides being a really good wedding photographer, this article revealed I'm also a recent bride and a real person. Brides are loving those things about me. They know I can relate to them in front of the camera just as well as from behind the camera. Did I procrastinate in planning my own wedding? Yes, ma'am! Did I freak out a little right before I walked down the aisle? You betcha! I was able to get into their shoes (mine were sparkly gold flats, by the way) and see first-hand what my brides go through on their big day. Yes, I wrote the whole ceremony at 3:15am two nights before the wedding. Yes, I didn't get some of my craft projects done in time for the wedding day, which didn't matter in the end. And yes, I danced down the aisle to Colbie Caillat's "I Do"...because simply walking down the aisle just isn't my style. :) It was a day that dreams are made of. I loved everything about being a bride, and I love reliving that feeling every time one of my brides are beginning the same new chapter in their book of life.

Brides are also loving the fact that I'm a real person. As this article points out, life handed me a few big curve balls last year. But did that keep me down? Heck, no! In fact, just 3 weeks after my brain biopsy, I was back in action photographing weddings every weekend for the next several weeks...and I loved every moment! I bounced back to my usual self, feeling not only 100% but 300% of the person I was before this mysterious, fluke attack on my brain...and I am so lucky my doctors have found that my body is just as healthy as my mind. Looking back, I think that experience was a test of my faith and my inner strength. Mind over matter. I feel like I've been given a second chance to make this life even better than what it was before, not just for me, but for everyone around me.

So what is next for the new Mrs. Jennifer Leigh Tacbas? She moves forward with a big, cheesy grin on her face and an extra spring in her step. She follows her dreams with her camera in tow. And she sets out to capture the special moments that make life worth living, for her brides and grooms and for herself.

Life looks a little different, a little brighter these days, a little more special. Allow me to show you the world as I see it, through my eyes...my lens. Allow me help turn your life's special moments into ones you will cherish for always. It would truly be my honor.

Jennifer Leigh Photography: 2011 in Review

As 2011 comes to a close, all I can do...is smile.

On a personal level, this year was a roller coaster ride. Like any other year, there are always tests and trials we are presented with, and we always have a choice - to let them overcome us or to overcome them. I'm one of those people who can always see the good in every situation, no matter how difficult...even if it's as simple as a valuable lesson learned. This year, I can proudly say I not only overcame my obstacles, I put them to shame! I know my positive outlook had a lot to do with that. And that, my friends, feels good.

Professionally, Jennifer Leigh Photography has caught the wind in its' sails and is soaring! I was fortunate enough to have photographed 103 clients in 2011! When I think about how dear my clients hold their images I've photographed...when I think about how they will cherish these images for a lifetime, I get filled up with happiness and gratitude. My job is a special one...and it is pure joy for me to be able to bring some joy to you. I feel honored each and every time someone books me for a lifestyle session, a birth story, an engagement session or a wedding. The truth is, photographers are everywhere these days...so having someone choose me to photograph them is something I hold dear to my heart and take seriously.

But if you know me even just a little, then you know I'm not all serious. :) One of the most mentioned comments from my clients after a session or event I've photographed is that I gave them an amazing and fun experience. Don't get me wrong - I'm always professional, but who's to say professionals have to be a stick in the mud? I insist my clients have fun! Smiling, laughing, playing, getting creative...it's good for the soul, and it makes for some amazing shots! I think it is one of the reasons my clients keep coming back to me again and again...they have fun during their time with me and have some wonderful images to show for it.

Amazing photography and amazing experiences. That's what Jennifer Leigh Photography is all about, and the word is spreading in big ways! My favorite example from this year has got to be booking 5 weddings during the last 5 days of 2011! What a way to end a fabulous year!

With that said, 2012 is going to be an incredible year! I'm going to make it so and help you make it so, too! I've got so many surprises on the table and can't wait to reveal them to you. I hope you're ready because it's gonna be big! Can you feel the excitement?? Okay, 2012...let's do this!

Manieka & Cedrick {Engagement}

I am happy to present to you my final engagement session of 2011...and a special one at that!

Manieka and Cedrick have been friends since the 5th grade and began dating during their senior year. During their college years, they went their separate ways - Manieka earned her BS in Middle Grades Education, and Cedrick joined the Air National Guard and simultaneously earned his Bachelor's in Information Technology. Despite the distance, they still kept in touch and remained friends. In 2009, they reunited after 7 years, and on August 28, 2011, in front of their entire church congregation, Cedrick asked Manieka to become his wife.

Due to Cedrick's overseas tour beginning in early January 2012, the couple have really done a lot to plan out their wedding day. Their venues are booked, their wedding coordinator is hired, and Manieka and Cedrick asked me to photograph their wedding. I am so excited to be given the honor of capturing their wedding day in a way that will truly showcase the deep love they have for one another, their families and God.

Since Cedrick is not scheduled to return until a week or so before their wedding, we made sure to hold their engagement shoot immediately! Manieka and Cedrick are very easy going and open to anything, which, for a photographer, is always a great combination! We had a fantastic time during their shoot! I was my usual creative self, climbing on benches, hanging off of window sills and laying on the ground...doing what I had to do to get those extra special shots they deserved. And kudos to this couple who went along with it all because the results are just as stunning as they are! (I mean, really...what a gorgeous couple!)

I'm so glad I was able to give Manieka and Cedrick beautiful images to hang onto this year while they will be apart. A big "thank you" to Cedrick, for his service to our country. I look forward to seeing them both on one of the happiest days of their journey together in October 2012.

Mercedes & Brutus {Lifestyle}

Mercedes is a lot of incredible things... A beautiful young woman, inside and out. An amazing oil paint artist. A hearty laughter. And a dog lover, just like yours truly. Enter Brutus, a rescued Italian greyhound and one of the sweetest pups I've ever met, who I found out will do anything for a little bit of turkey.

I have been looking forward to this lifestyle-meets-fashion shoot with Mercedes and Brutus for a while now, but was not excited to be greeted by the gloomiest, rainiest weather we've had in a long time.

We began the lifestyle shoot inside and around her fabulous home near Savannah, Georgia, which was decorated to the nine's with all things Christmas. But as soon as we realized the sun had come out and the rain had stopped, we hopped on the golf cart and headed down to the community dock.

The location couldn't have been more perfect. It reminded me of Mercedes' fabulous paintings of the marsh and clouds. Her paintings served as my inspiration for the second half of the shoot, which was all about location, color, and simple pleasures. Enjoy this sneak peek into the second half of our three-hour session.

Momma Mia & Baby J {Birth Photography}

I don't think anyone thought for a moment, including this mom-to-be, that Christmas day would be spent in the hospital. But at 11:11am, Mia's greatest gift was born - a sweet, healthy baby girl.

I was so happy to be invited to meet Baby J about an hour after her grand entrance into this big world. Both Mom and baby were happy and healthy...and a little tired. I stood back and captured some wonderful shots of this new mom and her baby getting acquainted, as well as some adorable close ups of Baby J herself, using natural window light and the room's ceiling lighting.

Merriest of Christmases, M & J! May next year's holiday season be a little more relaxing for the both of you. :)

The Davis Family {Portraits}

I was so excited about meeting this family on Jekyll Island a few days ago for a family portrait session. They are one busy little family this holiday season, as they are in the process of moving from their current home in Alaska to the home they just bought last week in Miami, Florida! What a change!

I was excited to meet their little daughter. Her momma warned me...I knew it would happen...and it did - I fell in love with little Miss M. Right from the start, we chatted about her favorite subjects: the Purple People-Eater and hippopotamuses. (Could I even say those words when I was her age? I had trouble even saying them during the session!) Who knew this little red-head with the stunning green eyes was going to be so full of laughter and smiles during our hour and a half session? She did have one little moment where she snuggled up to Daddy and looked a little sleepy, but she followed that up with running around and playing in the grass.

I loved every minute of this session with this beautiful family! Check out the images below, and you'll see right away why it ranks as one of my favorite sessions of 2011.

Jennifer & Robert {Saint Simons Island Wedding}

A few days after Thanksgiving, I had the honor of photographing Jennifer and Robert Bozeman's big day! Their simple, elegant seaside wedding on Saint Simons Island was a wonderful setting for their intimate ceremony. We were blessed with huge, white, puffy clouds and a brilliant blue sky - a photographer's dream!

Robert proudly serves with the U.S. Army, and his wife, Jennifer, is obviously a perfect mate for him. The two of them together are very easy going and fun, not to mention stunning! While they may not agree on which football team to root for, they are still head-over-heels in love. Here's to a lifetime of happiness, love...and a little football rivalry!

Mister V - The First 5 Months {Birth & Lifestyle}

What I love most about being a birth & lifestyle photographer is being able to capture the story of a little human in the making with my camera. And that is exactly what I've been able to do with sweet Mister V. Included below are a few never before seen images on his birth day all the way up to our lifestyle session in his home last week. He is growing so fast and is turning into such a handsome little man full of personality. He melts my heart each and every time I have the honor of photographing him.

This, my friends, is what photography is all about. For me, being able to capture a moment in time for my clients to hold dear and cherish for years to come is my passion and a privilege. I get to create those images. I get to become a part of my clients' lives in this amazing way. Little ones grow up so fast. One day they will have children of their own. And Mister V's parents will have images like the ones below to look back on and use to reminisce about years past. Being a photographer is so much more than taking pictures - it's about creating memories. And it is my honor to do so.

May you always smile so willingly and love so deeply in 30 years as you do now, little one. I'm looking forward to watching you grow into an amazing young man.

The Lane-Walsh Family {Portraits}

This is the second year I've had the honor of photographing this sweet little family for their Christmas cards. I am always excited to see what they show up wearing because mom knows just how to pick out the right outfits! My heart did a little flip when the two little ones jumped out of the car. Could they seriously be any cuter?

I also had the pleasure of photographing Melody's amazing dad, Buddy, and his wife, Glenda, who are newlyweds! These two lovebirds are such a fun couple and are deeply in love. *swoon

I always have a great time with this beautiful family during their sessions and look forward to photographing them in 2012!

Pets - I Heart Faces

Every Fall, we open up our home to a four-legged friend in need. Two years ago, we fostered Lucie, a puppy who is now happily living in Ohio with her awesome forever family. Last year, a local stray named Enzo found his way into our hearts, and we were happy to place him in my sister and brother-in-law's home in Ohio, where he is the center of attention and their world.

This year, we adopted a puppy named Ya Ya, who was dumped at a local shelter by her family. We adopted her to save her from euthanization and vowed to find her the amazing forever home she deserves. Ohio seems to be our go-to place (did I mention we live in Georgia?), but we would go to the end of the Earth to find her the perfect family. Until then, we've been able to train her up, give her lots of love that she deserves, and show her how fun the holidays can be.

This image was taken the second day Ya Ya was in our home. To me, this image depicts Ya Ya seeing her new home, her new chance at life, through her big, beautiful, brown eyes.

A Home for Ya Ya

Two weeks ago, we took in a pup from a local shelter in hopes that we could find her a home. Many of you Ooh'd and Ahh'd, but still...no forever home for Ya Ya! While we love her to pieces, we are not able to make this home her permanent home...but we ARE preparing her for the lucky home that will become her forever home.

After two weeks with us, here is what we have found out about Ya Ya:

* She is 5.5 months old.
* She LOVES other dogs.
* She LOVES to play with toys...and if our dogs aren't feeling frisky at that particular moment, she will squeek the toys right off their foreheads to get their attention. Her tactics work every time. hahaha
* She LOVES the outdoors.
* She can play fetch! (We didn't teach her that!)
* She surprisingly likes to take showers!

Ya Ya is a super fast learner, and we've been working on some commands. In two weeks' time, here is what we taught her:

* She sits on command with verbal and hand signals or just hand signals alone.
* She sits without command when you are getting her a treat.
* She takes her chew sticks to her bed, which is where we have taught all our dogs to eat treats.
* SHE IS HOUSE-TRAINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (You are so very welcome.)

What we are still working on:

* She is doing so much better on a leash during walks.
* She has almost learned the command to release a toy from her mouth.

And if all THAT doesn't sell you on her, there here are some ridiculously cute new photos of her...

She may look tall here, but she's only knee-high...and I'm 5'5".

Lindsey {Portraits}

It wasn't that long ago that I had the opportunity to photograph Lindsey, husband Josh, and their two four-legged "children." (That shoot was to die for!) This time around, Lindsey decided she would go it alone, as she will be using her portraits as a surprise for someone in her family this Christmas. (Shhh!)

Recently having finished her very first marathon, she showed up to her session looking amazing! And thankfully, she was up for anything...including lying in the middle of the street...because her images turned out spectacular!

I want to thank Lindsey for supporting my Images for a Cure campaign, in which 100% of her session fee was donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation! During our session, I learned that her grandma is a breast cancer survivor. Lindsey's donation will see to it that in the near future all women will be cured of this disease!

Kim & Marvis {Family Portraits}

Meet Kim and her son, Marvis! I must admit - at first, I wasn't sure just how into this session Marvis was going to go. But after the first 5 minutes, two things were clear: Kim and Marvis have an amazingly awesome bond...and Marvis is the sweetest, most fun 13-year-old I have ever met! He was quick to get in on helping me pick out some poses for his mom and him - and all of them were great! (New Jennifer Leigh Photography assistant in the making?)

Golden Isles H.O.G. Holiday Hope Toy Ride

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of photographing the starting point of the Golden Isles H.O.G Holiday Hope Toy Ride. For those of you who may not be up-to-date on your lingo, H.O.G. stands for Harley Owners Group. And what a group it was! While they may not need too much nudging to ride their Harley, this group came out to support the Holiday Hope Toy Drive, which collects both toy and monetary donations benefiting the Golden Isles Children's Center. You should have seen the awesome toys donated! This group also pulled together a monetary donation of $1000+! It was a beautiful day for a ride, which will help make some special kids' holiday seasons a little brighter.

I want to thank Jenna McNeal and Bill Johnson for sponsoring my sponsorship of this event and for getting me involved in such a worthy cause. It was my pleasure to photograph this event!

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to photograph two of my favorite guys, Josh and Brian. It had been a while since these two have had their photos professionally taken, so I was happy to do the honors! I wanted this session to be extra special and show off their fun personalities. Abby & Girls {Portraits}

When I have a client ask if he or she can bring along their four-legged family members, my answer is always an immediate, excited, "Yes!" Abby met me on Saint Simons Island for a family session with her two "children," Savannah and Mia. Both doggies are rescues and full of sweet personality. Mia is a gentle and independent one. Savannah, on the other hand, is clearly a Momma's girl. All three ladies were beautiful and up for anything on our shoot. Below is a sneak peek into their session, including some outtakes starring Savannah!

Cowgirls and Indians {Images for a Cure}

Miss A and Mister D were too cute this Halloween to pass up the chance to photograph them in their costumes. Miss A stole the show as a yee-hawing cowgirl, and Mister D was a more reserved Indian who really enjoyed playing with sticks. (Maybe he was fixing to build a fire back at his teepee?)

I think if you searched hard enough, you still wouldn't have found cuter kiddos this Halloween. It was a pleasure to photograph them again!

The Dotson Family {Family Portraits}

I was thrilled to get a call from Shannon Dotson a few weeks ago inquiring about my availability for a family session on Saint Simons Island. This sweet little fam of four live in the Atlanta area. Her husband, Mark, is a Vidal Sassoon-trained hair stylist who works mainly in Atlanta, but every few months, the family travels to SSI where Mark has quite the client fan club at the island's Studio 412.

This family stole my heart as soon as they stepped out of their car. I loved the energy of the boys, who were more than happy to allow me to have some fun with them. Mark & Shannon are a fun couple who are obviously very much in love and are enjoying life to the fullest! And is it any surprise that this whole family has amazing hair?!? (Just heard Mark donated his ponytail to the Locks of Love organization - AWESOME!)

This session was ridiculously fun! The boys cooperated so well during the session, I made sure to build in a lot of play time as a reward. The Dotson family enjoyed their session so much, we were already planning the next one before they got in the car! I am definitely looking forward to photographing (and playing with) them again soon!

And now some much-deserved play time...starring two sweet boys and a few Hot Wheels!

Little Brown Girls {Marketing Session}

Candice and Aliyah are two talented, fun event planners based in Brunswick, Georgia, who started their own business called Little Brown Girls. We got together to shoot some new marketing images that reveal their personalities. Hands down, they were a blast...and they definitely got the attention of gentlemen passersby as they partied it up on the sidewalk, dancing to some Beyonce, which was sung acappella by the 3 of us. #thankyouverymuch If from the following images you can't tell how much spunk these girls possess, you must have your eyes closed!

This week at the I Heart Faces website, the photo challenge theme is "black." For me, what is difficult about this challenge is that image entries must feature black as the dominant color but cannot be a black and white image.

After much deliberation, I chose this image to enter. Much about this shoot/image is fairly out of my normal repertoire, but it was super fun to shoot a motorcycle in an old freight elevator!

Sharonda & Kids {Images for a Cure}

I had the pleasure of photographing Sharonda and her two adorable kiddos this past Saturday during my Images for a Cure campaign, in which 100% of the session fee was donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The four of us had a wonderful, playful time during their mini session. I just couldn't get enough of the kids' little smiles and big beautiful eyes! Mom is a beautiful lady, too! You can tell she is doing a great job raising these two happy kids - they were so sweet!

Let Them Be Little {I Heart Faces}

Meet Mister V... I was lucky enough to have photographed his birth story, and now I am honored to have the opportunity to photograph him as he grows from the tiny 6lb 13oz infant into the little man he is already becoming at 3 months. What can I say...he is forever stitched into my heart!

Here his momma is watching over him as he sleeps, still in awe, on his one month birthday.

When I first happily agreed to photograph LaTasha & Rodney's 10-year vow renewal ceremony and reception, I had pictured a small ceremony and an intimate dinner. As I started learning more and more details about the day (20 people in the wedding party?!) I wondered how intimate this was going to be! Finally, the big day arrived and it was clear - this was not just some little vow reaffirmation...this was more like a full-on wedding! And an amazing one at that.

LaTasha did a fabulous job planning this beautiful day all by herself. While many people were in attendance, the ceremony on Jekyll Island's Driftwood Beach seemed very intimate. What a beautiful location on such a beautiful day! The reception was held across the island at Villa Marianna on the Jekyll Island Club Hotel grounds and was fit for a king and queen. The details of this reception were gorgeous.

I was so honored to be part of this amazing day. Congratulations, again, to Mr. &Mrs. Rozier on 10 years of wedded bliss. Here's to many, many more years of as much love and happiness as you have for each other today!

And they still lived happily ever after...
