BITSAT 2010 Syllabus:

The BITSAT-2010 test will be conducted on the basis of NCERT syllabus for 11th and 12th class. The detailed syllabus is given in the Annexure. Candidates may refer to the NCERT text books for the contents. A sample test will be made available to the registered candidates at the BITS website on which he/she can practice as many times as desired.

Logical Reasoning

The test is given to the candidates to judge their power of reasoning spread in verbal and nonverbal areas. The candidates should be able to think logically so that they perceive the data accurately, understand the relationships correctly, figure out the missing numbers or words, and to apply rules to new and different contexts. These indicators are measured through performance on such tasks as detecting missing links, following directions, classifying words, establishing sequences, and completing analogies.

Verbal Reasoning

1. Analogy

Analogy means correspondence. In the questions based on analogy, a particular relationship is given and another similar relationship has to be identified from the alternatives provided.

2. Classification

Classification means to assort the items of a given group on the basis of certain common quality they possess and then spot the odd option out.

3. Series Completion

Here series of numbers or letters are given and one is asked to either complete the series or find out the wrong part in the series.

4. Logical Deduction – Reading Passage

Here a brief passage is given and based on the passage the candidate is required to identify the correct or incorrect logical conclusions.

5. Chart Logic

Here a chart or a table is given that is partially filled in and asks to complete it in accordance with the information given either in the chart / table or in the question.

6. Nonverbal Reasoning

1. Pattern Perception

Here a certain pattern is given and generally a quarter is left blank. The candidate is required to identify the correct quarter from the given four alternatives.

2. Figure Formation and Analysis

The candidate is required to analyze and form a figure from various given parts.

3. Paper Cutting

It involves the analysis of a pattern that is formed when a folded piece of paper is cut into a definite design.

4. Figure Matrix

In this more than one set of figures is given in the form of a matrix, all of them following the same rule. The candidate is required to follow the rule and identify the missing figure.

5. Rule Detection

Here a particular rule is given and it is required to select from the given sets of figures, a set of figures, which obeys the rule and forms the correct series.

BITSAT 2010 Online Tests

Admissions to Integrated first degree programmes, at Pilani campus, Goa campus and Hyderabad Campus for I Semester 2010-11 will be made through a computer based online test conducted by BITS. This test is referred to as ' BITS Admission Test', in short as BITSAT.

BITSAT-2010 Test Format

BITSAT-2010 will be of total 3-hour duration (without break). The test consists of four parts:

Part I : Physics

Part II : Chemistry

Part III : (a) English Proficiency and (b) Logical Reasoning

Part IV : Mathematics

All questions are of objective type (multiple choice questions); each question with choice of four answers, only one being correct choice. Each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark. No marks are awarded for not attempted questions. While the candidate can skip a question, the computer will not allow the candidate to choose more than one option as correct answer.

There will be 150 questions in all. The number of questions in each part is as follows:

There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers among the 150 questions.

If a candidate answers all the 150 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics only; four questions from each part. Further, once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 150 questions.

The questions are so designed that a good student will be able to answer 150 questions in 180 minutes. The extra questions (a maximum of 12) will give a chance to highly meritorious candidates to score higher. However, candidates should keep in mind the fact that there is negative marking for wrong answers and any attempt to answer the questions by pure guessing of the answers is not likely to have any advantage, but may result in a reduction in the total score.

The questions will be selected at random from a large question bank. Different candidates will get different question sets. An expert committee will ensure that the question sets are of comparable difficulty level, content, question type etc. In this matter, the decision of the expert committee will be final and binding on the candidate.

All the questions and instructions of the test will be in English only. Candidates should bring a pen for the purpose of rough work, signing etc. Blank sheets for rough work will be provided, if required. Calculators and logarithmic tables are not allowed in the test centers. Candidates are not allowed to bring any other personal belongings such as mobiles.

Each candidate who registers for BITSAT-2010 will be instructed to download a ‘Hall Ticket’. Candidates with the hall ticket only will be allowed inside the Test centers. All centers are closely monitored for security and candidates’ identity and activities will be recorded using web cameras and/or closed circuit TV cameras. Anyone violating the rules of the test center will not be allowed to continue with the test and will automatically be disqualified.

Common Law Admission Test, CLAT- 2010

The concept of a National Law School to act as a pace-setter and a testing ground for bold experiments in legal education came up before the Bar Council of India in the context of the Council’s statutory responsibility for maintaining standards in professional legal education under the Advocates Act, 1961. The Bar Council of India, representing the organized legal profession at all India level, took initiative in establishing the first National Law School in Bangalore. The success of National Law School of India University, Bangalore, has inspired many States to set up similar institutions in their respective territories and at present, there are twelve National Law Schools in different parts of the country. These institutions are national in the sense that substantial number of seats in all these institutions are filled up by students from all over India and the academic staff are also recruited on all India basis. Till 2007 each National Law School conducted admission test in different Centres spread all over the country and thousands of students after their ten plus two examinations took these multiple admission tests at considerable expense and inconvenience.

In order to avoid the hardship faced by the students in taking number of tests for admission to individual Universities and in view of the direction of the Supreme Court in the case of Varun Bharat v. Union of India, initiative was taken jointly by the University Grants Commission, Ministry of HRD and the National Law Universities for conducting a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for admission to different National Law Universities in the country.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by seven National Law Universities. The experience in CLAT-2008 has been that a larger the catchment area, provides better quality of students. Therefore, in addition to the CLAT founder seven National Law Universities, the four other National Law Universities have joined CLAT- 2009. It was agreed by the Committee consisting of all the Vice-Chancellors that the test would be conducted by the National Law Universities by rotation on the basis of seniority of the Member University. Accordingly, (CLAT)-2008 and CLAT-2009 were conducted by National Law School of India University, (NLSIU), Bangalore and NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad respectively. At present following 11 National Law Universities are member of CLAT-2010.

UNDER-GRADUATE PROGRAMME

Eligibility:

To be eligible for taking CLAT-2010, a candidate should have passed Higher Secondary School/Intermediate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC* and persons with Disability*). Age of candidate should not be more than 20 years (in case of General/OBC candidates and 22 years in case of SC/ST* and persons with Disability* on 1^st July, 2010.

*Subject to reservation at the University concerned.

Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination can also appear provisionally. However, they shall have to produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination before or at the time of admission with detailed mark sheet.

Note: Candidate with compartment/supplementary in any subject in the qualifying examination will not be eligible for admission.

ii) Clearance of OPENMAT conducted by IGNOU. The candidates who have successfully cleared the entrance test for admission into Management Programme conducted by institutions like CAT, MAT and State level tests need not appear in OPENMAT.

FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS
Foreign students residing in India are eligible to seek admission in IGNOU programmes who have valid student visa for the minimum duration of the programme. Such students are required to remit the fee at par with foreign students (fee structure of foreign students could be downloaded from the website www.ignou.ac.in). Admission of foreign students residing in India will be processed by the International Division of the University after ensuring their antecedents from the Ministry of External Affairs/Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Programmes with fixed number of seats are not opened for foreign students.
ADMISSION TO MBA (MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME) FROM DIM
AND PGSDM

Those who are Non-graduates and who have successfully completed DIM would be allowed to get admission
into Management Programme (MBA), without re-appearing in Entrance Test (OPENMAT), after completing
Bachelor’s degree, if they so desire. In such a case they should send the re-registration form alongwith the
marksheet and copy of the Bachelor’s Degree to the concerned Regional Director for getting admission to MBA, within the dates prescribed by the university for re-registration. Normally the dates are 1st February to 31st March and 1st August to 1st October for respective semesters.

The students qualifying any of PG Specialisation Diplomas, if desirous of pursuing MBA, may do so by registering for other courses. However those who have done PG Specialisation Diplomas under Direct Entry stream prior to 1997 will have to qualify OPENMAT test and apply for credit transfer by paying requisite fee on prescribed form to the Registrar (SR&E), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068 as per credit transfer rules.

ENTRANCE TEST (OPENMAT XXVI, OPENMAT XXVII and IGNOU OPENMAT XXVIII)

Admission to Managem ent Programmes of IGNOU is done through OPENMAT Entrance Examinations,
held twice a year.

For appearing in the entrance test (OPENMAT) a student has to fill up APPLICATION FORM FOR OPENMAT
ENTRANCE TEST– Form 1 which is provided separately in an envelope alongwith this STUDENT HANDBOOK
AND PROSPECTUS. Please see the instructions for filling up the ENTRANCE TEST Form at pages 133.

You need to send the form in the same envelope attached in the Prospectus by Registered/Speed Post so as to reach on or before the last date printed on the application form. No other document is required to be submitted alongwith this form. The Entrance Test will be held on the following dates:

A student can appear in anyone of the above OPENMAT Examinations. If a student wants to appear in more than one OPENMAT Examinations s/he is required to apply separately.

ADMISSION

Admission to the MBA, Diploma in Management, PGDIM and Post Graduate Diplomas in HRM, FM, OM, and MM, will be done on the basis of the score obtained in the OPENMAT, conducted all over India twice a year as per above schedule. (Clearance of OPENMAT conducted by IGNOU. The candidates who have successfully cleared the entrance test for admission into Management Programme conducted by institutions like CAT, MATand State level tests need not appear in OPENMAT).

A result card will be sent to all the candidates appearing in the OPENMAT examination. It will indicate whether the candidate has qualified or not qualified for admission on the basis of cut-off score as decided by the University.

For admission a learner will have to apply on the specified APPLICATION FORM – Form 2 which is given
in the Prospectus alongwith required documents to the Regional Director concerned. You are advised to retain a Photo Copy of the Application Form submitted to IGNOU. Admission will be offered to all those attaining the cut off score and above, subject to their fulfilling other eligibility criteria as mentioned in Appendix 1.

VALIDITY OF OPENMAT SCORE
Candidates who have qualified for admission on the basis of the score obtained in the Entrance Test (OPENMAT) will be eligible to take admission into Management Programme in any of the subsequent semesters. For example, a student who has qualified for admission in August 2009 test, may take admission in any of the following two semesters i.e. either in January 2010 or July 2010 semester, one who qualifies in February 2010 test may take admission in July 20010 or January 2011 semester and one who qualifies in August 2010 test may take admission in January 2011 or July 2011 semester. The last dates for submission of the Application Form for Admission to these semesters are as follows :

AFMC is an institution for training of Armed Forces personnel. PG seats not filled by Armed forces personnel are allotted to para military offrs, Ex-SSC Offrs & civilians. Priority is given to paramilitary & Ex-SSC officers.

All civilians joining PG course have to join the Armed Forces as short service commission on completion of the course. In this regard all civilians sign a bond of Rs. 5 lacs on joining the course.

The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), is an examination organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India. Introduced in the year 2002, this national level competitive test is for admission to various under-graduate engineering and architecture courses in institutes accepting the AIEEE score, including 20 prestigious NITs. Students opting for B.Tech. are tested in physics, mathematics and chemistry. The test duration is 3 hours but maximum marks and the number of questions vary every year. However equal weightage is given to all the three sections. Students opting for B.Arch. are tested in mathematics and an aptitude test. It is held in the final Sunday of April and results are announced near the end of May. Candidates are ranked on an all India basis and also according to their position in state.

Counselling, Seat Allocation, Document Verification and Admissions

Final list of institutions admitting students (with intake in each discipline and category as per reservation) through AIEEE-2010, including counselling procedure, counselling schedule and counselling centres would be displayed on the CCB website in May/June 2010. The decision for the above will be taken by the CCB.

The Central Counselling Board shall send by post the Information Brochure for Counselling only to the candidates eligible for counselling. The counselling will be made on line Offcampus and Depending upon the requirement and facilities.

Verification of documents would be done at the time of counselling/admission. The purpose would be to verify different records regarding identification, age, qualifying examination, state of eligibility and category of the candidate. On failing to establish of any of the documents, the candidates will not be considered for admission.

SC, ST, OBC and PH candidates will be required to produce original certificate issued by the competent authority at the time of counselling, failing which they will not be considered for admission.
All correspondence regarding counselling and refund of the amount paid to the Central Counselling Board (CCB) or any of the participating institution should be made with the concerned authorities. No correspondence in this regard be made to CBSE.

Evaluation and Declaration of Results

On the basis of performance in AIEEE, separate rank lists will be prepared for B.E./B.Tech. and B.Arch/B.Planning. Score Card indicating All India Rank and State Rank with total marks and marks in each subject shall be sent to all candidates appearing in AIEEE.

Candidates scoring above a certain cut off percentage of marks (being different for General, OBC, SC/ST/PH category candidates) to be called for counselling shall be determined at the time of declaration of AIEEE results.All India/State Rank and marks shall also be released on AIEEE website. The results of AIEEE-2010 is likely to be declared on or before 7th June, 2010.The All India/State Rank to be called for Central counselling will be decided by Central Counselling Board which will be constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India and decision of seat matrix etc. will be taken by Central Counselling Board. The required information will be displayed at apropriate time on website www.ccb.nic.in .
The score cards will be dispatched to the candidates from 12.06.2010 to 27.06.2010 under Certificate of Posting (UPC). The Board will not be responsible for any consequences that may arise due to loss of score card in transit.In case of non-receipt of the score card within the stipulated period candidate may apply for duplicate score card on payment of Rs. 50/- (plus postal charges of Rs. 30/- for outstation candidates) in the form of Demand Draft in favour of Secretary, CBSE, payable at Delhi/New Delhi between 09.07.2010 to 31.08.2010. No request for issue of duplicate score card will be entertained thereafter.

As per the notified cut off score and the candidates declared eligible up to the notified Rank shall be called to appear for counselling.

In case of two or more candidates obtaining equal marks, inter-se merit of such candidates shall be determined as follows:

B.E/B.Tech - By marks obtained in Mathematics and then in Physics in the AIEEE and then by age (preference to older candidates).

B.Arch/B.Planning - By marks obtained in Aptitude Test and then in Mathematics in the AIEEE and then by age (preference to older candidates).

Rules For Rechecking/Re-Evaluation of Answer Sheets

Since the AIEEE answer sheets are machine graded with extreme care and repeatedly scrutinized, there is no provision for rechecking/re-evaluation of answer sheets. No correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

The Admit Card will be sent by post "Under Certificate of Posting (UPC)" to the candidates (including those who made application online) about four weeks before the conduct of the examination, however, the Board will not be responsible for any consequences that may arise due to loss of admit card in transit.

It will be the responsiblity of the candidate to contact/write to the Board in case he/she is not in receipt of the Admit Cards by 6th April 2010. Such requests be sent to

with 2 photographs (as pasted on the Application Form), one should be attested by Principal of the institution where candidate is studying/passed XII or by the gazetted officer. Photocopy of the Application Form, proof regarding remittance of fee (photocopy of the Demand Draft/Challan) in respect of those candidates who have made application online, and the original postal receipt issued by the Post Office for having dispatched the Application Form by Registered/Speed Post in order to get a duplicate Admit Card.

Such request for issue of duplicate admit card should accompany with a Demand Draft in favour of Secretary,CBSE payable at Delhi/New Delhi amounting Rs.50/- as fee and additional Rs.30/- as postal charges for outstation candidates.Request for the issue of admit card after the examination will not be entertained.

In no case the duplicate Admit Card would be issued at the Examination Centres.
