The world as you know it has been devastated and the person you love most is gone. Now, people you care about are disappearing... what do you do?

As with all sequel books, it took me a while before I remembered what was happening and where things were left off but once that was under my belt, I was back into the story like never before. There is something about dystopian novels that grips the reader like no other genre... whether it is the fact that we are reading about the unknown, or the belief that this could actually be the future... there is so much room for interpretation and yet so many authors seem to view the world the same... as destroyed.

Once again, we find Janelle as the main character only this time she is a bad-ass fighter. I LOVE this new Janelle. The fact that she is willing to risk everything she has left to protect those that mean the most to her is such a wonderful character trait and I really enjoyed reading the book from her perspective. It was also great to have all the characters from the first book back in play and to see how everyone has grown and adapted to what was going on around them.

Elizabeth Norris has created a wonderful series with both Unraveling and Unbreakable being must reads and total 'sit on the edge of your seat' stories. I believe that the series is now complete but that, by no means, will make me forget the new 'world' that she has created. Forever will I remember the Interuniverse travel and always wonder if my double is as awesome as I am... okay, maybe not! (it's really just not possible to replicate this kind of awesome!)

Overall, Unbreakable is an absolute MUST read for all those fans of both young adult fiction and dystopian novels. It will leave you with an understanding of what it means to protect your heart while still being prepared to be hurt.

I never know if an actor opting to change mediums is a good idea but I am also not one to cast judgement without giving due diligence.

When I received Someday, Someday, Maybe I had no idea that the author was famed actor, Lauren Graham of Gilmore Girls. Honestly, I didn't watch the show so wasn't drawn in by her name. What I liked about this book is that Lauren seems to have written a story that she would be familiar with... An actor trying to make her way in 'Hollywood'.

Did I love this book? No. Was it a fun read? Yes.

While I found the characters to be enjoyable, I thought that Franny was too whiney for my liking. It seemed that when she was handed lemons she opted for a sour face instead of making lemonade (or the best of the given situation). I get that it's a hard industry to get into but giving yourself a deadline and then not working at it seemed off... Or at least it felt like she should have been doing more. I really enjoyed Dan and Jane though (her roommates) and found myself wanting to call them up for drinks!

Someday, Someday, Maybe left me wanting a little more in the story department and it felt like there was a lot of stale story in the middle. So many times I found that I longed for the diary portion of the book because I knew it marked the passing of time.

Overall, not my favourite but I think the story had good bones.

Review:

First off, waiting for a sequel/series book is a horrible thing and I feel that some of what I was feeling after Pandemonium was lost in the wait for Requiem. I was spoiled with series like Twilight and The Hunger Games because I only caught onto them after the books had all been released.

Requiem picks up right where Pandemonium left off... in the epic battle for Lena's heart. After believing that the love of her life, Alex, has been killed, she had moved on to Julian and would have lived 'happily ever after' has Alex not suddenly shown up out of, virtually, nowhere. Would this 'new' Alex still hold a flame for Lena or would Lena have to live with the consequences of moving on?

I don't know where to begin with this review. For one, I really enjoyed this series. I thought that it was unique but not so over-the-top for a dystopian that it was unbelieveable. I found the characters loveable and felt that I was able to bond with them as a reader. However, I did not like the constant change of pace that Requiem brought. I found Hana's chapters to be more enjoyable than Lena's because they were different from the 'norm' of the Wilds... spend one day (book) in the wilds, spend a million.

Once again, I enjoyed all of the characters from the previous books and was glad to see most of them back to finish off the series. The new characters, Pippa, Bea and Fred, added to the overall feel of the story but, in my opinion, weren't necessary. In a series like this, more characters doesn't always make it better. In fact, it actually made some of the storyline hard to follow.

The ending of this series left so much to be desired... so many UNanswered questions and really, an overall bad taste in my mouth. Not wanting to spoil the ending for those who still wish to read the book, and also having not read any other reviews, I am not sure if I am alone in this feelings. When I read eBooks, my biggest complaint is that books just suddenly end and I feel like I wasn't prepared and that is exactly how Requiem was for me. I feel like part of the story was left off. If there was another book coming, I could understand but there isn't (as far as I know).

Overall, a sad ending to the series. I wish I could say that it ended with a bang, but it really just fell flat for me.

What do you get when you mix a wedding story with a Sophie Kinsella book? My DREAM story!

You won't find me saying that this is the most unique read I have ever come across, but you will hear that it was a great read and was, in fact, much different than I thought it was going to be at first glance.

First off, I loved Lottie! Her character was so fun and easy-going, even though it didn't start out that way, and I really enjoyed that she was willing to take a chance on love. It isn't often that you hear of someone rushing to the alter with a long-lost love and I found that part of the story very refreshing. Did I hold out great hopes for Lottie and Ben? No... but that didn't mean that I wasn't secretly hiding in a corner cheering them on. Fliss is another character who I actually grew to love as well. I could understand her spot as the older sister who is looking out for her little sister's best interests. Sure, she drove me crazy with her sabotage plans but hey, it certainly made for an interesting 'wedding night'.

Sophie Kinsella has, once again, been able to capture the imaginations of her readers. Whether it is in the way that she describes the scenery of her stories, the characters who come to life on the pages or the wonderful plot she so carefully lays out; she is able to bring each of her stories to life and Wedding Night is no exception.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and feel that, if you have read any of Sophie Kinsella's stories before, you will not be disappointed with this one. A true gem with an ending you won't see coming.

Review:

It's not very often that I will willingly pick up a book that is about World War 2 because I find a lot of the details that revolve around that era very disturbing and, honestly, I read for enjoyment. However, if Jodi is writing it, I am going to be reading it.

In my reading history, I can honestly say that I have read three or four books about the holocaust, including Sarah's Key, and none of them have left me feeling even close to the way The Storyteller did. Yes, the book is fictional, but I read the entire story assuming that the characters names were the only fictional part of the book. I imagine that many of the details that Jodi Picoult wrote into the story were actual accounts of how horrible it would have been to be a Jewish prisioner of war. My brain just can't even comprehend how awful it was for them and my heart hurts thinking about it.

The Storyteller is broken into three parts and the first and third are focused around Sage and Josef... a very unlikely pairing. When Josef asks Sage the most unthinkable of questions, it opens up the second part of the story, and my absolutely favourite part. Being taken on a journey through Germany and into the 'camps' through eyes of a strong, terrified woman was something that I don't think I will ever forget.

Jodi Picoult has honestly taught me more about the war than I have ever learned before. The amount of research and care that went into the telling of this story is unmatched by any other author I have read before.

If you have read Jodi's previous books and ever been moved, you have got to pick this one up... TODAY! I have and will tell every single person I can about The Storyteller. A definite MUST READ!

Nail Polish Lottery Club ~ Week 9

You guys... I have an issue... when started the Nail Polish Lottery Club (#nplclub), I had just under 200 polishes that were untried in my collection. As of today, that number is 233 and growing (literally, I have about 9 more Julep's en route and a boatload of Sinful Colors plus a #nailmail... YIKES). I believe that the 'untrieds' will NEVER officially be tried at this point. Am I the only one with this problem? PLEASE let it not be so!!

Anyways, this week's random number was 103, clearly not an issue for me, but if you don't have a hoarding issue and finding 103 isn't possible, you can add the numbers together (1 + 0 + 3 = 4) and you should be able to find a more useable number.

Number 103 in my collection is polish that I received in a swap with MissHollyBerries and also is from a brand that I have not yet tried. It is Deeper Dive by Wet n Wild (Spoiled) and this line isn't actually available in Canada (or at least not until Target opens... fingers crossed for new brands).

Trying a new brand is always exciting and I have had nothing but great luck with Wet n Wild so I had a great feeling about this polish. At first, it appeared very think, which is not something I generally mind and the glitter in Deeper Dive is very fine so it didn't matter so much. I was able to get, what I thought was, an opaque look within two coats but once it dried, I could definitely see a VNL (visable nail line). The colour was great, the look was okay but the wear was HORRIBLE! I don't normally report back on that because I wear the polishes on the day that I post but this week, I was able to do a wear test and YIKES... the next day I had SOOO much chipping that I had to change the polish. NOT GOOD!

Not sure if the Spoiled line is something that I will be able to fall in love with but I have a few more polishes on my untried list so I will definitely be keeping you posted.

Beautiful Creatures by PurMinerals

Browsing the shelves of the high end makeup section at Shoppers Drug Mart, my booknerd eye instantly landed on something that seem to connect both my 'obsession' worlds... books and makeup.

It appears that in celebration for the upcoming release of the movie Beautiful Creatures, a movie based on the best selling novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, PurMinerals has decided to release a makeup palette and gift set based on the colours of the movie. I was able to do some in store, on the sly, swatching and picture taking and hope that you enjoy!

The lipgloss is just a clear gloss with a slightly sticky feel and the eye pencil is a black eye kohl that is soft and would be great for the water line.

Glitter Galore... Polka.com

Shockingly enough, I didn't buy a tonne of the nail polishes from the newest OPI collection, Euro Centrale, but the few that I picked up are AMAZING! My absolute favourite has got to be Polka.com.

Polka.com is a great glitter combo in a clear base. It has both chunky glitters and micro-glitters in it. The chunky glitter is my favourite part because it comes in a colour combination that I have not yet seen in any of my other glitter polishes... and trust me, I have a TONNE of glitters. The colours are fuscia pink, teal blue and a more metallic navy blue. There are also a tonne of the metallic navy blue micro-glitters.

As for coverage, you can definitely get by with one coat but for the pictures I included in this post, I used two coats. I really feel that this is a perfect layering glitter because it adds a perfect look to your nails without being TOO in your face.

For the first picture in this post, I layered Polka.com over Hot Stone Massage by Tillie Polish and for the second picture, I layered over My Vampire is Buff (also from the OPI Euro Centrale collection).

In my opinion, if you only buy one polish from this collection, you NEED to make sure that it is the Polka.com! It is a unique, amazing glitter!!

Imagine spending a night in a hotel made entirely of ice... and then imagine waking up to a gorgeous pair of eyes staring at you. Yep, that drew me in too!!

There was no better time to read Winter Wonderland than the month of February when the actual Winter Carnival is taking place. As I saw pictures on my cousins Facebook page of her at the actual 'Ice Hotel', I would fall asleep at night reading a novel about love and loss that takes place at the exact same place. Not only that, but any book that uses Canada as it's back drop is a great one in my opinion.

Krista is a great main character. She is old beyond her years and through some really tough life experiences, keeps her heart guarded. I really liked this aspect because it made for more of a 'real life' romance. Sure there are those that meet someone and go from 1 to 100 in a night, but Krista has a secret and I enjoyed the long road to romance that was taken in Winter Wonderland. Jacques was also a character that stole my heart. A mysterious man that spends his life with 100 puppies... yes, please! I wish that I could have pictured him better in my mind because I never really grasped what he looked like and other than a French accent, my Jacques still remains faceless.

One thing that Belinda Jones has done for me is make going to the Winter Carnival an item on my Bucket List. I live a province away and have only read about it... Belinda was able to bring this place to life and allow readers to experience so much of it that they really will wish they were a part of the journey.

Overall, a wonderful tale that fits the bill for all chick lit fans. Canadians will enjoy hearing about one of the many great wonders of our amazing country!

Nail Polish Lottery Club ~ Week 8

WOW, it's already March... is it wrong to ask that dreaded question?!? WHERE IS THE YEAR GOING?

As we say goodbye to the winter weather (or at least pray that it goes far FAR away), it is also time to welcome in the spring nail polish colours. I know that the Nail Polish Lottery Club does not discriminate against polishes and seasons because, hey, it's random, but it is definitely nice to be able to try out a fairly SPRING-like colour this week.

Before I get into this too far, I will mention that this week's number was 7 and well... I have mentioned this before, if you don't have double digits of untrieds, GO NOW... RUN don't walk to buy more... LOTS MORE!!

Number 7 on my list is Perfect Molten by Color Club. I don't own a lot of Color Club because I cannot find them in any of my local stores. However, I did purchase the entire Foiled collection from Nail Polish Canada and Perfect Molten was one of the only from that collection that remained untried.

A perfect springtime green with a silver shimmer really made me feel like it was the perfect shade for this time of year. A warm-ish day with snow on the ground makes me feel like everything is shimmery and frosty and well, the FOILED effect on these polishes is just perfect.

These polishes are opaque in two coats and go on so super shiny that you don't even need a top coat (although I would add one even on the shiniest of polishes because IT'S MY THING!). These pictures were taken outside with two coats of polish and no top coat... awesome, right?!

On a complete sidenote, it is so nice to finally be able to take some nail pictures in the actual sunlight. I normally paint my nails at night and with the darkness coming so early, it usually means artificial light for most of the shots. I love longer days!!

Review & Giveaway: Meet Matt(e) Nude

I knew that when my YouTube channel hit the 500 subscriber mark, I would do a giveaway to celebrate. What I didn't know was how long it would take to get the specific item that I wanted to giveaway.

After watching EmilyNoel83's review of the Meet Matt(e) Nude palette by The Balm, it became a must-have in my collection and also became the perfect palette for a giveaway. Being fairly new, I felt that most people may not have had a chance to pick it up and also falling in the nude colour range made it fit into most peoples collections.

With NINE full-size (or even larger than full size) eye shadows all named after famous Matt's, the Meet Matt(e) Nude palette has a wonderful range of staple colours. All of the colours in the palette are also nude and can be used in just about any eye look.

The first row contains the colours Matt Johnson (a charcoal-y blue), Matt Garcia (a cool dark brown) and Matt Malloy (a rich ivory)

The second row contains Matt Rosen (a wet sand brown), Matt Wood (a dark brown with purple undertones) and Matt Singh (a peach toned brown)

The third and final row contains Matt Abdul (a lavender grey), Matt Lombardi (a butter yellow beige) and Matt Hung (a medium toned grey)

I am very excited about this palette and the possibilities that can come from it. Playing around with colour is definitely NOT my strong suit so I am hoping that some of my good YouTube friends come out with demo videos soon so I can feel more confident wearing these gorgeous colours.

Review:

We all know that sometimes, the end of a day can't come soon enough... but what happens when sleep doesn't come and you need something to help you relax?

When I saw Best Kept Secrets in Walmart, I assumed it was a smutty book... yes, I judge books by their cover, but what made me pick it up was a blurb by Emily Giffin... one of my fave chick-lit authors. Am I ever glad that I did because this book was so powerful and so riveting that I am still thinking about it a week later as I write this review. Why did it take me a week to write a review? Well, it was one of those books that you need to fully digest before you can talk about it... do you know that kind of book?

Cadence is an outstanding main character and while you watch her life fall apart, you sit on the sidelines cheering along as she tries desperately to put the pieces back together. I cried as she decended further and further into a bottomless pit and as her son watched on while his mother destroyed her life. Sure it hit home more because my son is the same age as Charlie and just imagining that poor, innocent little boy watching his mother drink was more upsetting to me than just about anything.

As Cadence struggles to regain custody of Charlie and become the mother she dreamed about, you begin to wonder if her one mistake is so big and so bad that there is no righting it. Can a momentary blip on your radar change your entire being? Is it fair to be judged on it? As a mother, I cannot imagine ever fighting to be able to care for my child... I can't imagine hurting the bond so much that it is irrepairable, but what if I did? What if it was broken... would I be able to continue on? These are all questions that go through Cadence's mind and that she works through as the readers go along on her journey.

Overall, this is a powerful novel that I recommend to anyone regardless of the genre that you read. It is a book that will pull you in and make you sit up and take notice.

Nail Polish Lottery Club ~ Week 7

Happy Sunday everyone!!

It's another nail polish day and I am so happy to see the weekend... while having a wee-un means that my weekends are busy busy busy, it is nice to be able to relax with a cup of coffee in the morning and watch my favourite nail polish gals talk all about one of my fav things!!

This week, our number was 82 (if you don't have 82 polishes, you can use 8 + 2 = 10... not going to go lower than that because, as I have said before... you don't have double digits in untrieds, you NEED to go shopping!)

Number 82 on my list actually changed this week... I was so excited to finally wear a Sephora by OPI polish from the Cinderella collection but by the time I was ready to do the polish, the number had changed and I ended up with Essie's Bikini So Teeny! (I may or may not have added over 40 polishes to my collection since we started this challenge... it used to be 199 untrieds and now it's closer to 238)

Bikini So Teeny is one of those cult classic polishes that was a staple in any nail polish collectors summer waredrobe last year. I was finally able to get my hands on it over the winter and because of the nature of the polish, I opted to save it for the warmer weather. While it is a gorgeous summery shade, I am very sad that I didn't opt to wear this over the Christmas holidays because I really think that with a flakie top coat, it would have been an awesome wintery manicure!

The blue of this polish is a universally flattering shade and while the formula is a little streaky (as most pastels are) I was able to get a nice opaque polish with two coats (some nails required three) and I really did love the look.

How far would you go to protect your child?

I have always had a soft spot for mystery/thriller type books. It seems to be the type of book that I first started reading when I moved from the 'kid' books to the grown-up stories. Sandra Brown is one of those authors that I know I can turn to when I am looking for a good old-fashioned 'who dun it' story. She has once again gripped me from the first page and didn't let go until the very end. It is such an amazing feeling when you read a book that does that to you.

Having a child the same age as the main characters really drove home just how far I would go to ensure his protection... regardless of what would happen to me. I just found that I connected with both Honor and Lee and while their struggles were very different and the thoughts that went through their heads must have been as far apart as the oceans, the very core of their beings were focused on one thing... the truth. It is ironic that Sandra Brown chose to name her main character Honor as much of the theme of Lethal seems to centre around protecting the honor of a name or the honor of your family. A point that did not skip past this reader ;)

A bonus for me was the location in which Lethal took place. I have always been facinated by stories that take place in or around the Bayou's of Louisiana and luckily for me, Sandra Brown opted to have these very bayous become a focal point in her story. I found that the descriptive nature in which she describes the scenes not only added to the story but allowed for the reader to be transported to a place that they may have never before seen.

Overall, another great read by Sandra Brown. She is such an expert in the mystery genre that I just know I will always be on the edge of my seat when I read the stories.

Nail Polish Lottery Club ~ Week 6

Happy Family Day... or President's Day, wherever you happy to find yourself, I hope that you are having a wonderful day. In Ontario, Canada, we celebrate our families today and to do our part, we actually headed to my work (a HUGE church) and played all sorts of different sports in the gymnasium. It was a lot of fun and I feel good having burned some calories too!

Now, on to the nail polish...

It's another week of the Nail Polish Lottery Club and this week's number was a 'lower' one in the list (at least for a hoarder like myself) and after adding another 30 to my collection in the last two or three weeks (I know, I need help), my list will never be manageable... like EVER! However, the number that was drawn this week was 41 (if you don't have 41 polishes, you could use 4 + 1 = 5).

Number 41 on my list is (was) Sprung by OPI, from the Mariah Carey collection. Sprung is a very new polish to me (as in a 2013 addition) and one of the only polishes from the collection that I have not yet worn. It is a gorgeous metallic, shimmer polish in the gold/bronze family but where this one stands out is the colour shift that occurs in natural lighting. I actually was able to see all sorts of different shades of reds and oranges within this polish and I found myself staring at my nails more than once.

Originally, when I purchased this polish, I thought that it would be very similar to Warm and Fozzie (also OPI) but it actually is a much warmer bronze and the colour shift makes it much more unique. Within two coats, you have a fairly opaque nail but I added a third coat in these pictures because this also had a slight pull when applying thinner coats (if that makes sense).

My overall thoughts on Sprung are that it is a GORGEOUS fall polish. I am very glad that I have it in my collection but sad that I didn't have it sooner as I would have loved to sport it in the fall... oh well, as luck would have it, fall comes around once a year ;)

Nothing beats a short story set around one of the most romantic days of the year. There is just something about combining my love of chick lit romance with Valentine's Day that sets a story apart and Nancy Scrofano has hit all the notes in all the right places with Cupid On Deck.

Sure, a short story doesn't really leave a whole lot of room for the ups and downs of a typical chick lit novel, but sometimes that is just the right thing. What Nancy Scrofano does give the readers with Cupid On Deck is a perfect balance of romance and mystery. I spent most of the 50 pages wondering if Lou would end up finding her perfect Valentine of if the book would end on a sad note.

Overall, I found this story to be just perfect for Valentine's Day. Nancy allows the reader to skip right into the middle of the story and creates characters that are very real. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who had a soft spot for romance!

Nail Polish Lottery Club ~ Week 5

A little late to the party this week but after a mammouth snow storm that rocked our little town on Friday and a book event all day Satuday, I totally forgot about blogging last weeks nail polish pick... DUH! Also, I am on a nail treatment week which has basically meant an entire week of naked nails. It is no fun and I actually think I will break the ban tonight so I can paint my nails a beautiful red for Valentine's Day tomorrow.

In any event, week five's number was 6... yep, lonely old 6. If you don't have 6 untried nail polishes then you should seriously think about stopping what you are doing and RUN (not walk) to the store and snatch some more up. As Judi says... they may stop making them so you should get them while you can! ;)

For me, 6 was an easy number to get to and it happened to not only be an untried polish but a polish from a brand that I have not worn before... Wet n' Wild. It's not that I haven't tried a Wet n' Wild polish before, but the 'Megalast' line was a newbie. These polishes seem to be well known for their super wide brushes and the super cheap price. The colour for this week was 'On A Trip'.

On A Trip is that perfect springtime purple... not quite a light purple (so not for your Easter egg mani's) but not a deep dark purple either. I found that I really did like this colour and the formula was super nice as well. Opaque in two coats and very fast drying. Even though the brush on this polish is something many people love, I actually found it to be just a little TOO big for me. I have shorter nail beds and it was just the wee bit too wide for my pinky finger and I found it a little hard to apply.

Overall though, I really was happy with this week's polish pick and will definitely be trying more of these out in the future!!

Blogger Love 2.0 (A Random House Event)

Hey Ladies!!

This past weekend centered around an amazing book lover event for me. It was the second annual Blogger Love event hosted by the wonderful girls over at Random House Canada.

Last year, I remember heading down to the 'big city' for the first annual event and was soooo nervous. I didn't know where I was going, who I would see or if I would be an outsider looking in. As always, I hit up Starbucks and as I was sipping my coffee waiting for the time to head out, I saw a group of gals come in and knew each and every one of them from their online profiles.... it was a bit of a 'fangirl' moment for me!! I didn't approach them for fear of looking like a crazy stalker woman but at the end of the event, I knew that I had made some friends for life.

THIS year... I actually met Zara, from The Bibliotaphe Closet, at that same Starbucks and we chatted so much that we were almost late for the event... I kid, we were totally on time because, HELLO, it was a book event! It was so nice this week to have someone to arrive with though and running into fellow book lovers who knew our names in the lobby, the elevator and then the boardroom was just awesome!

I opted to film a 'Day in the Life' video for that day so I am going to insert that here and you can see all the fun details of my day with Random House and as a BOOK NERD! HAHAHA

What an amazing day! Meeting authors and fellow book lovers really does make me smile. I love knowing that I am not the only crazy person out there!

Thank you SOOOO much to the wonderful people at Random House for allowing me to be a part of this awesome event and I cannot wait until next year!

Essie Spring 2013 Sneak Peek!

It's no big surprise that I am a nail polish ~~hoarder~~ fan and that one of the first brands of polish I fell in love with was Essie.

This Spring will mark my first official season of being an avid 'collector' of polish that include the brights, the pastels and the fun-loving, sun-worshiping colours of Spring and Summer and I couldn't be more happy than to share with you the Essie Spring 2013 collection (or at least give you a sneak peek of it!!)

The 2013 Spring collection is called Madison Ave-hue and the anchor colour is a beautiful hot pink coral (if that even makes sense) and I was able to find this amazing article in Flare magazine that showcases some of the upcoming Spring fashions to go alongside the colours from this collection. Haven't we all wished we could go back in time and right a wrong or change a little something so our furture would be a little brighter?

My first thought upon opening this book... other than a squeal and Instagram of the inside cover, was where the H-E-double hockey sticks are the footnotes? I have read every single one of Jen Lancasters books and this is the first one that did not have the infamous footnotes. I thought I wouldn't enjoy it as much because the 'inside voice' that is represented by the footnotes is usually so bang on with how I think that they really do make the book for me. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that after the first chapter or two, I didn't even notice any longer.

One of the things that I enjoyed most about Here I Go Again was the fact that Jen Lancaster chose to write the story from the point of view of the bitch! For lack of better words, Lissy Ryder was a bitch in highschool and I actually pictured her as Regina George from the movie Mean Girls. That chick that was SOOOO cool that if you looked at her, you would melt. Slight exaggeration, maybe, but as a NON-cool kid in highschool, I enjoyed seeing Lissy get her come-uppins throughout the story. What I was not expecting was how much I would fall in love with the character and really be rooting for her to succeed in righting her wrongs.

Jen Lancaster uses her wit and her charm to draw the readers into a story but at the same time teachers us that sometimes just being who you are is all you can be. The ways of your past may have all been for a greater purpose and the only thing you can do is become a better person today. Your life is what YOU make it!

Overall, another great fictional story by one of the greatest of her generation. I truly believe that those who are familiar with Jen Lancaster's writing, will love it and those who aren't will also. If you ever wondered how your past affected your today, pick up Here I Go Again.

You are on vacation, your family disappears, the cops beg you to stay still and stop becoming involved... what do you do? Do you listen to them or follow your gut?

I can even... I don't know where to begin. Rick Mofina is seriously one of those authors who, in my humble opinion, you do NOT hear enough about. This man has written book after book (all released in paperback, mind you) that have seriously sent me on a high speed chase with my emotions. Never before has an author been able to have me on the edge of my seat for as long as this man does. He simply BLOWS MY MIND with his abilities!

They Disappeared is one of the first Rick Mofina books that I have read (and I have read them all) that does not centre around a newspaper reporter. Instead, we have a simple, run of the mill family who is on vacation in New York. While I do really enjoy the 'news' aspect of most of his main characters, I foung Jeff Griffin to be a breath of fresh air. A father who is hell bent to get his family back no matter what might be involved in doing so.

From the good guys, to the bad guys, to everyone in between; there wasn't one single character who I felt was overlooked or out of place. Each and every person was so well placed that it helped with the flow of the story and really allowed the reader to become part of the story as opposed to just being a reader. I truly feel that writing a suspense novel takes an extreme amount of talent and Rick Mofina is definitely one of the best in the game.

Overall, I can't imagine Rick Mofina becoming any better than he was with They Disappeared, but I believe I say that after every single novel. If you are a fan of novels that will leave you breathless and your heart racing, you need to pick up this one. I promise, you won't regret it!

Nail Polish Lottery Club ~ February 3rd, 2013

Happy SUPERBOWL Sunday! Around our house, this is a BIG day because my husband is a die-hard 49ers fan and for the first time since we have been together (14 years this year), they are in the Superbowl so you know what we will be doing... biting our nails! YIKES!

Along with the Superbowl, it's also another week in the Nail Polish Lottery Club and this week's number was 48 (if you don't have 48 polishes, you can use 4 + 8 = 12 or 1 + 2 = 3).

Number 48 on my list is OPI Suzi Says Dai. I will start by saying that I purchased this polish because I tend to always pick with the 'Suzy' polishes when OPI releases their collections. I don't know why, I just do. Sometimes nail polish lovers don't need reasons for the things they do... amirite?

OPI Suzi Says Dai was filed away with the other red polishes in my OPI collection but after putting it on my nails, I moved it over to the brown section and I have to say, ICK! It has an amazing formula and was opaque in two coats, with a super shiny finish (although I still added a top coat because... yep, I roll that way).

I chose to describe this colour as chocolate brown but when I went to work after painting my nails, my boss described the colour as poopy brown and that pretty much cemented that the mani would only last until the end of the day.

Cute Valentine's Day Nail Tutorial

It's a special romantic day but not everyone wants to be all romantic and smooshy... some people prefer to grasp the cute side of the holiday and make a play on the colour scheme.

I grew up thinking that pink and red were enemies on the colour wheel and were never to be worn together. Now, while I wouldn't run out and grab the first outfit I could find in these colours, I would definitely decorate my nails with them. In fact, I really like the different shades together and you can create such amazing nail art with them.

Today, I have the first in my Valentine's Day nail art tutorials and it is one that is aimed at those who desire a cute, fun, whimsical design over the classic nail. It is super easy to do and a lot of fun. I guarantee you will have people noticing your nails :)

Review:

Imagine receiving the deed to a house and not having to pay for anything. Now, imagine that instead of a house, it was an island... can you imagine?

To be completely honest, when I first started to realize what the main plot of Breakfast at Darcy's was, I wasn't sure it was going to be everything I had hoped. After reading two of Ali McNamara's other novels and being completely heads over heels in love, I expected this novel to follow suit. While it was slow to get there, by half way through the story, I couldn't imagine myself ever thinking anything negative about it.

Is it wrong to say that I related the characters in the story to the three main characters of Bridget Jones Diary? Darcy being Bridget, Conner being Daniel and Dermot being Mark Darcy. If you know anything about me, you would know that I swoon everytime Bridget Jones' Diary comes on the television so to say that I loved the feel that these characters gave me would likely be a small understatment... I adored them all! However, I will also add that while I thoroughly enjoyed the three main characters and a couple of the others, there were many who ventured to the island that I didn't know at all. Who left, who stayed... it remains a mystery. I do wish that there was a little more time spent on these characters, but I also realize that keeping the story interesting and under 1000 pages is also part of the bigger picture.

While I can't say that the Breakfast at Darcy's was overly realistic, I can tell you that I didn't care one bit. When I pick up a book, I like to be transported into a world that I don't normally live and that is exactly what Ali McNamara is good at. She knows her audience and is able to engage them in a way that leaves them breathless and with their hearts overflowing at the end of the story. In fact, I am always sad when the story is over and really do wish that there would be a follow up because sometimes, you just aren't ready for the ending.

Overall, a wonderful, well written story that will pull on the heart strings of every chick lit fan. If you haven't yet stepped foot into the wonderful world of Ali McNamara, Breakfast at Darcy's is a great starting point.

Nail Polish Lottery Club ~ January 27th, 2013

Another week, another nail polish tried... actually, I have been conciously trying to use a couple of untrieds a week because really, one a week is NOT going to do much to eliminate the unused collection... HAHAHA!

This week's lottery draw was number 79... (don't have 79 untrieds, use 7 + 9 = 16 or 1 + 6 = 7). For me, that polish was Happy Birthday by Deborah Lippmann

Have you ever heard people talk about Deborah Lippmann glitters? Did they say that the glitters will blow your mind? Well, I am still waiting for that mind blowing moment because Happy Birthday was just a multi-coloured glitter much the same as OPI's Rainbow Connection and many of the dupes that have popped up along the way.

At $22 a bottle, I expected a dense glitter coverage that would leave me amazed and really, in two coats, I could still see through to the nail and was so glad that I opted to wear a slightly sheer polish as a basecoat. While the formula wasn't all that, the lasting power was fabulous. I was able to keep this manicure on for two plus days - which far exceeds the amount of time I normally leave my polish on - and there were little to no chips.

As for a winter polish... definitely not. However, I will be using this one again as either an accent finger or a fun party (New Years) nail.
