One of my favorite hikes in the San Diego area, The trailhead begins at Lake Poway, wraps around the south side of the lake and winds up the mountain. At the top is everyone's favorite photo op: Potato Chip Rock! Here's my roomie and some of the people I went with.

Went for a walk tonight and couldn't decide which way to look - the Hotel Del Coronado, all lit up for Christmas, or the gorgeous orange sunset. Happy New Year!

Out on a walk I came across this rogue poinsettia plant growing like crazy above my head here on Coronado. Talking to the guy walking into the house, it turns out his parents brought it back from Hawaii and it's been thriving!

I was invited to the Poinsettia Bowl last night - it was my first time at Qualcomm Stadium. We decided to cheer for Texas Christian University - and we picked the right team. Go Frogs!

Each year, San Diego has a parade of lights on San Diego bay. Last year I was invited along on a boat to be IN the Parade of Lights, but it was cancelled due to high winds. So this year, a couple friends and I took ourselves down to Seaport Village and waited an hour for the boats to arrive. They did, and it was a fun night!

I'm including this photo in the December Photo Project only because it's the only photo I took today! I returned home to Coronado on Tuesday night after a week back home, only to find a dead car the next morning when I got out to start the car for work. So, I've been biking to work the past couple days. At least it was sunny and did not rain like the weatherman said!

A rainy weekend in Baja California

Headed down to Tijuana this weekend for a housebuilding mission. The day did not look promising as we lost our way and jolted our way through potholes during a rainstorm, but the weather definitely turned around for us later in the day.

Joshua Tree National Park

From Joshua Tree National Park

Finally, after 2-1/2 years in Southern California, I made my first visit to Joshua Tree National Park. A week of gloomy San Diego weather made me head for the inland desert sun - and it did not disappoint! A toasty 90 degrees on Saturday and Sunday of the weekend.

When we arrived at the park, we talked with the woman at the visitor center and throughout the weekend we did all the "hikes" she recommended. I say "hikes," because most were a mile or less. We checked out Hidden Valley, Jumbo Rocks, Barker Dam and Wall Street Mill.

The hills looked like jumbled piles of rocks. The cactus looked like trees. Climbers were crawling all over the park. We scrambled around on plenty of rocks, meandered through the Joshua Trees. We built a campfire and made roasted potatoes and s'mores. We watched a meteor shower and saw the Milky Way.

NeedToBreathe on a boat!

KPRI Radio put on another great listener concert on the Hornblower. This time it was the band NeedToBreathe. Where have I been where I haven't been listening to these guys? They're great! I Spotified them for 2 weeks before the concert, learning their songs - and what great songs they are. I'll definitely be picking up their latest album.
