Rustic Little Red Dresser

2014-09-05T16:56:00.002-07:00

I found this great little solid wood dresser, and knew it needed a little makeover.

Before, pictured way better than it looked in person.

I decided to go with a red shell and a walnut drawer front, with a french graphic from the The Graphics Fairy, and a walnut antiquing over the entire piece.

I kept the original hardware, it went so nice with the wood tones.

One more project finished up. I also used two great graphics on this super solid table, from The Graphics Fairy, (love that site.) and I used the Modge Podge transfer method to transfer the images.

I apologize for the picture quality, I am currently with out a camera, so these are some good ole phone pics. Hope you enjoyed.

King Size Bench

2014-04-22T07:56:00.000-07:00

I have had a 1970's-ish, King size headboard sitting around for a while. I also had all sorts of extras, so with the help of my sweet handsome husband, we came up with a great, big bench.

Not going to lie, I LOVE it..... I painted it red with and antique glaze.

I love all of the little details on this piece.

......and one more.

Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by.

Entertainment Cabinet

2014-03-29T14:30:00.002-07:00

Here is a little(huge, heavy, bulky) makeover. I picked this big guy up, from the free section on good ole Craigslist. I thought this would be a great entertainment unit.

I loved how simple the white and ebony stained looked, but I wanted to add a little uniqueness to this piece.

Graphic is from the Graphic Fairy and can be found here.

So I added this graphic to the inside of the drawers and the large center shelf.

I also added a scroll to the sides of the drawer, which goes with the scrolls in the graphic.

Drawer side.

I mixed the old hardware with some new updated hardware

Matching the drawers, I did the scrolls on the two smaller shelves.

Large center shelf.

I cut a hole in the back of the black shelf and put in a plug, so he is good and ready for a home entertainment system.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoyed/

Super Chippy Dresser

2014-02-27T11:17:00.000-08:00

I started this dresser out with a very different idea of what I wanted, but I realized that my decoupage skills absolutely stink and I need lots and lots of practice. I had three different images that I had to sand off and start over. So I went to my old fall back of a French Graphic, (which is ok, they always sell)

and I like the way she turned out.

The dresser was a curbside find and solid wood, which always makes me happy.

She was very simple and clean,(you see the painting essentials up on top of the dresser, some paint, some grout, sand paper and the most important the wine...)

I also found some legs on the side of the road, that I thought I would add to give this simple gal a little elegance, it's kind of like high heels for a dresser.

I wanted a super chippy look, which is not usually my style, but hey I like to mix up. I used Vaseline, to achieve a multi layer chippy effect.

I did layers of grey, black, white, and gold. I also used Martha Stewart's textured copper paint to add a little dimension.

And one more after.

Thanks for stopping by.

Black and Gold

2014-02-01T13:43:00.001-08:00

I love the way the wood looks peeking through the black, and the color of the wood on this beauty was the perfect tone.

So I pulled out my black and got started. This gal is a pretty gal, but she needed to be dolled up, so I chose to do a French graphic from The Graphics Fairy in Gold, and the top in a metallic gold. I added some vintage knobs, and I love how she turned out.

One more after.

best part of doing this project is we got some well needed SNOW! Finally!

View from my deck. I am so blessed.

Clutch Dog was pretty happy for snow as well.

Have a great day.

Sugar Bowl Coffee Table

2013-12-10T12:47:00.002-08:00

I just finished up a table for a lovely client. She is blessed to have a beautiful view of Sugar Bowl Ski Resort.

We wanted to incorporate the picture in the coffee table.

This is the table I was working with. It had a veneer top, so I took the top off, and replaced with a reclaimed wood, from one of the cabins that had been torn down around Donner Lake.

I tried to do a transfer, but the picture was to small, and the table to large. So I decided to paint the image.

and here is a side by side comparison.

Hope you enjoyed. Have a great day.

Transfer Method Madness

2013-11-08T18:19:00.001-08:00

So I have been obsessed with figuring out this transfer thing. I have tried EVERYTHING! I started with an inkjet printer and wax paper which worked alright for simple images, but a bit smudgee on images with a lot of detail. So I bought myself a laserjet printer and tried a few different methods.

This was done with the iron on method. I printed an image as a mirror image and put it face down and ironed the paper until the transfer appeared. Not to shabby.

I did this with a gel medium and paper. I know now it would have turned out better if I was more patient. I also tried paint thinner and had no result. I will have to play with this method more.

So I decided to do a large image with the Gel medium process (and be patient this time.) I was going for an old Holy card look.

So I took this image from thegraphicsfairy and reversed it.

I then used blockposters to blow up the poster.

I then added a gel medium and put the image on face down and let it dry for a few hours.

The wood is from an old end table that was not a salvageable piece

After a few hours wet down your paper and roll the paper away with your fingers. BIG TIP, do a little at a time and let the paper dry. See sweet baby Jesus and St. Joseph starting to peak through and say hello.

This is what it will look like between rub downs.

After peeling and drying, and peeling and drying , I started to get the look I was going for, An old and tattered Holy Card.
I used restore a finish on top to blend the piece and sealed it with a clear polyurethane.

I just love how baby Jesus is holding Joseph's halo.

Hope you enjoyed.

Dinning Table to Coffee Table

2013-10-21T18:25:00.001-07:00

I am sure this table was a great little Kitchen table at some time. When I picked her up she had some missing chunks on her lower legs. So quick solution, cut them off make her and outstanding coffee table.

Here she is with shorter legs.

I decided to go with a poppy red base and a graphic from the Graphics Fairy, with restore a finish on top. I pulled out my trusty over head projector, and had it.

Here is the middle step before filling the red in on the letters.

Here is the finished result. I love the way it came out.

Check me out on facebook and thanks for stopping by.

Pandora

2013-10-04T19:10:00.000-07:00

Have you ever had that project that you are s excited to get, (for a great deal) and when you start working on this project it makes you cry, (literally). This piece was one of the hardest pieces I have ever done. As my sister said, her name is Pandora, you just didn't know what you were going to get once you got into the project. Nothing on this piece seemed to fit. I don't know if it was age, weathering or what, but NOTHING fit right.

Pandora sure is pretty though.

This is a custom piece for a client, so I primed her up and did some repairs.

and then after a few days of struggles and many tears, I got Pandora back together. She is simply classic and lovely.

I hope Pandora is happy in her new home.

Here is a few pictures of some fall in my home.

The sign was made from an old warped bench top and some fresh fall leaves.

Isn't it cute?

Here is the table the sign is on. I absolutely love this color. It is Aces Kentucky Blue Grass.

Some fun shabby bird houses I picked up sale-ing last Saturday. I just adore their charm.

A sweet little wood ghost

Always love the Pine cones

Remember to always give Thanks

Hope you enjoyed. Happy Fall.

White!

2013-10-04T17:39:00.001-07:00

Happy Fall Everyone.

I am here to share a few projects today, but first off check out my facebook page,

the junk in our trunks.

So here we go. White seems to be my color this month.

This first project is a great little hutch, with beautiful clean lines. I found this beauty sitting on the side of the road and fell in love.

I chose to paint her, because the finish was just not pretty.

I LOVE this hutch. I actually had a buyer and backed out because I am just not ready to part ways.

One more look.

My second white project was another road side rescue.
This gal was a weird, hodge podge piece that was I think a makeshift night stand.

BEFORE

I added some paint and some legs (I also got off the side of the road) and a little bling.

I think this piece looks great so distressed.

........ and for the last project in white,

I got this baby off of good old CL for a smoking price of $30 dollars. I love this piece, because I have very little wall space in my glass house.

Hope you like her.

I did a very minimal amount of distressing on this one.

I added this cute little chevron knob.

Here is the little amount of distressing I did. This little ghost seems to be happy.

This is the first time all of the projects are for my own home. I am one happy lady!
Hope you enjoyed, and again check out and follow me on facebook at thejunkinourtrunks.

Dandelion Season

2013-09-09T10:49:00.000-07:00

I just finished up and sold my first dandelion dresser, wish, then it seemed like everyone wanted one. So in one week I did three of the same style dresser.

The first one the nice gal picked out what dresser she wanted, which happened to be one of my own, that has several looks.

This is the original look from a couple of years ago.

Then to this for a couple of days. Just wasn't feeling it.

To this which I loved, (I want to do another similar some day,
but I thought hey why not wreck something you like by distressing the hell out of it. Then I got this.

Not my favorite.
This gal stayed like this a while until my girls asked for a paper doll dresser. So I came up with this.

The black is even chalkboard paint, so they could color in the girl and the outfits.

So now my girls no longer need a dresser, my lovely client chose this dresser to be her very own dandelion dresser.

I replaced all the knobs with vintage pulls and glass knobs on the top. I did a home made turquoise with a white wash.

My third wanted something pretty close to my original, for her sweet babies nursery.

This guy too, was a roadside rescue. He had a broken drawer and needed some minor repairs, but had pretty good and solid structure. So my awesome husband framed in the top and repaired the skirt on the bottom.

I replaced the old pulls with some pretty glass pulls.

Both ladies where very happy with their own Dandelion Dresser.

Saturday Scores

2013-08-24T12:32:00.000-07:00

Hi there, today is my favorite day of the week, and I am here to share my scores.

I actually rescued this guy and he has an identical twin from the roadside.

I can picture these guys a pretty white, or maybe a pale blue, so many options and so many details .

Here's another big one. She would make a great buffet or tv cabinet.

This little beauty has some great legs.

This guy was screaming at me as soon as I got out of the car. Beautiful solid wood, dove tailed drawers. Look how proud he his. Sweet and sturdy.

Drum rollllllllll please, MY FAVORITE find of the day.
Isn't she so pretty.

I love this piece.

All pieces are available for custom finishes.

Thank you for stopping by.

Vintage Holy Card table.

2013-08-14T07:48:00.003-07:00

I saw this vintage holy card at the Graphics Fairy, I just thought was very beautiful. I wanted to try the wax paper transfer, before I started some signs. I had a little table sitting around, so I gave it a quick paint job, and transferred the graphic. The image came up a little light, so I darkened it up. I am quite pleased with how it has turned out.

Hope you enjoyed, have a very blessed an happy day.

It's Getting Hot In Here

2013-08-06T18:44:00.003-07:00

I got this guy with hopes of adding some embellishment's and doing a nice shabby white, but this guy had other ideas.

See those weird snake tail pieces on the front, well I thought I would be able to pop those suckers right off. NOPE! Those things are not going anywhere. So my wise husband kept saying make it flames. So for two days I ignored him. Then I got this bright idea, MAKE IT FLAMES. So my little white shabby chic dreams where squashed and turned into a boy treasure box. So here we go with some flames.

I thought I would do something fun on the inside, and came up with this, from a clip art piece. I think it turned out pretty cool.

Thanks for stopping by.
