मेरठ में विस्फोट को एक करोड़ की पेशकश

मेरठ, 15 जुलाई (जासं) : मुंबई में सीरियल बम विस्फोट के मेरठ कनेक्शन के संकेत मिलने शुरू हो गए हैं। जिस दिन मुंबई में बम फटे, उसी रात मेरठ के एक मीट व्यवसायी को विदेशी नंबरों से फोन करके यहां बम विस्फोट कराने की पेशकश की गई। फोन करने वाले ने खुद को अलकायदा का सदस्य बताते हुए इस काम के बदले एक करोड़ रुपये का लालच भी दिया। इस घटना से मेरठ पुलिस के होश उड़े हुए हैं। लगातार विदेशी कॉल आने से घबराया इस्माइल नगर निवासी हासिम इलाही शुक्रवार को डीआइजी से मिला। उन्होंने पूरा वाकया बताया तो डीआइजी भी भौंचक रह गए। हासिम इलाही का गढ़ रोड पर यासीन कोल्ड स्टोर के नाम से प्रतिष्ठान है और वह वेस्ट यूपी के बड़े मीट व्यापारियों में शुमार हैं। बकौल हासिम, 13 जुलाई को आधी रात के बाद 3.33 मिनट पर मेरे मोबाइल की घंटी बजी। फोन +9837173840 नंबर से आया था। मैंने कॉल रिसीव की तो दूसरी ओर से आवाज आई कि मोबाइल नंबर में लॉस्ट के डिजिट 786 हैं, इसलिए तुम मुसलमान ही होगे। मैंने हामी भर दी। इसके बाद फोन करने वाले ने कहा कि मैं अलकायदा का सदस्य बोल रहा हूं। इस वक्त मुसलमान मुश्किल में हैं। मुसलमान होने के नाते उसे मुसलमानों की मदद करनी चाहिए। मेरठ में दो बम विस्फोट कराओ, बदले में तुम्हें एक करोड़ रुपये की रकम दी जाएगी। अपना एकाउंट नंबर बताओ, रकम तुम्हारे खाते में डाल दी जाएगी। यह पेशकश सुनकर हासिम डर गए और रांग नंबर कहकर फोन काट दिया। दो मिनट बाद उसी नंबर से फिर फोन आया, मगर उन्होंने कॉल रिसीव नहीं की। उसी रात फोन नंबर +3444050 से क्रमश: 3.34, 3.37 पर कॉल आई। रात 3.41 बजे आई कॉल को उन्होंने रिसीव किया तो वही पेशकश दोहराई गई। दूसरे दिन हासिम ने कोतवाली पुलिस को मामले की जानकारी दी, लेकिन पुलिस ने उनकी शिकायत को कोई तवज्जो नहीं दी। इसके बाद गुरुवार दोपहर 3.01 बजे और 14 जुलाई की आधी रात 12.41 बजे फोन पर फिर कॉल आई। रात आया फोन उन्होंने अपनी पत्‍‌नी से अटेंड कराया, जिसमें भी दूसरी ओर से यही पेशकश दोहराई गई। हासिम शुक्रवार को डीआइजी कार्यालय पहुंचे और मामले में जांच की मांग की। डीआइजी प्रेम प्रकाश ने कहा कि जांच की जा रही है, लेकिन अभी यह नहीं कहा जा सकता कि मामला कितना गंभीर है। एसटीएफ और आइबी भी मामले में जांच में जुट गई है। कांवड़ यात्रा पर आतंकी खतरा: कांवड़ यात्रा पर आतंकी खतरा मंडरा रहा है। यात्रा के दौरान अनहोनी की आशंका जताई जा रही है। केंद्रीय खुफिया एजेंसी ने उप्र व उत्तराखंड के गृह विभाग को सतर्क कर दिया हैhttp://in.jagran.yahoo.com/epaper/index.php?location=37&edition=2011-07-16&pageno=16

At least one person was injured after two planes collided on a taxiway at Boston's Logan Airport on Thursday night.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that a Delta 767 collided with an Atlantic Southeast jet on a taxiway.

"While taxiing out for departure, the wing from Flight 266 from Boston to Amsterdam made contact with the vertical stabilizer of ASA Flight 4904, also on departure from Boston to Raleigh-Durham," the New York Post quoted a statement from Delta Air Lines, as saying.

"Both aircraft have been removed from service for inspections and passengers are currently being re-accommodated on other aircraft," the statement added. (Agencies)

There's no beating the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) when it comes to engineering. IIT-Kanpur retains first place on the list of the country's best institutions for technical education. IIT-Delhi retains its second place while IIT-Kharagpur moves up to the third spot. IIT-Chennai and IIT-Roorkee close out the top five.

At number 6, the Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS), Pilani, is India's best privately run engineering institute. IIT-Kanpur's continued top billing is confirmation of the institute's commitment to excellence. It has unveiled a new model for academics, in acceptance of the Academic Programme Review Committee report.

The most significant development for the institute in the past year has been that of providing students an open architecture of academics. The undergraduate programme now puts focus on interdisciplinary learning to give students access to a wider body of knowledge.

Interactive and collaborative models of teaching and learning have already been introduced. Other changes, such as an option to complete the BTech programme in two different streams in five years, will be introduced from the next academic session.

"The freedom provided to students and faculty in academic as well as non-academic activities makes IITKanpur a unique institution," says S.G. Dhande, Director, IIT-Kanpur. The freedom is double-edged: it offers students a new way of learning and living and also puts huge responsibility on the shoulders of teachers and students, he adds.

This freedom has translated into a significant rise in research work on campus. The institute received over Rs 100 crore last year from private agencies for sponsored research and consultancy in addition to the planned Government budget of Rs 50 crore and non-planned budget of Rs 122 crore.

"Nowadays more undergraduate students are showing an interest in research, which was earlier a prerogative of postgraduate students. Their participation in the institute's research activity has dramatically gone up," says Ajit Chaturvedi, Dean, Research and Development, IIT-Kanpur.

Ambitious research projects undertaken at IITKanpur include the Satellite Imaging for Rail Navigation project, which was introduced in the Railway Budget Mamata Banerjee presented this year. The institute is also engaged in an information and communication technology venture to meet the country's vast agriculture demand. IIT-Kanpur is also developing organic solar cells to produce solar energy. The institute's primary goal in the new academic year is to emphasise research and strengthen postgraduate education.

With a casual, friendly and cosmopolitan teaching environment, IIT-Kanpur provides freedom for students to grow, innovate, analyse and play with new ideas. Chaturvedi says education doesn't just mean doing courses, it also entails intellectual growth.

An IIT-Kanpur education, he insists, produces innovators and not merely job-seekers. "A majority of students is choosing finance oriented jobs over technology-oriented ones in recent times as the former pays better. Every industry needs sharp brains. I encourage more students to get into the growing field of technology," he says.

IIT-Delhi, a close second to IIT-Kanpur, is setting up a facility for nanoscale research and fabrication of nanoscale non-silicon devices. The interdisciplinary centre has brought together more than 50 faculty members and hundreds of students across departments. The research projects from agency sponsorships are worth more than Rs 120 crore. In 2011, its golden jubilee year, the institute has developed a new scheme for identifying high impact research projects.

"For IIT-Delhi, change is the only constant. The constant desire to improve and evolve sets us apart. We have three pillars of strength. First, there is infinite freedom of thought for students and faculty to set their own agendas and create their own paths in life. Second, scholarship, which comes naturally because of the quality of students and faculty we recruit, and last, a constant desire to remain sensitive to the needs of the society we live in," says Surendra Prasad, Director, IIT-Delhi.

The college has also set up a First Year Teaching Council to steer discussions and workshops to motivate teachers to experiment with pedagogical methods. A mentoring programme by senior undergraduate students to help freshers in their formative phase at the institute has shown remarkably promising results.

LEATHER CAPITAL TO TECH TITAN
Started in 1959, IIT-Kanpur began functioning from a building borrowed from the Harcourt Butler Technological Institute at Agricultural Gardens in Kanpur.

A year later, the Uttar Pradesh government allocated land 15 km west of Kanpur city. In 1963, the institute moved to its current location. Its founding director, Purushottam Kashinath Kelkar, registered the IIT-Kanpur Society on December 14, 1959. The 110-acre Grand Trunk Road campus was designed by Delhi based architect Achyut Kanvinde. When it began, IIT-Kanpur had just 100 students on its rolls. Today, the institution has over 5,000 students and 350 faculty members.

On the eve of its diamond jubilee year, third-ranked IIT-Kharagpur has ramped up its infrastructure and introduced several new programmes in the past year, such as a dual-degree programme in engineering entrepreneurship, a master's programme in infrastructure design and management, water resource management and an executive MBA programme.

The institute is also offering joint masters and PhD study schemes. Not wanting to lag behind in research, the institute is working to bring medical and engineering convergence, leveraging technology to create a new system of heath-care delivery. Biomedical research and medical outreach will form two pillars of the new system of heath-care delivery.

The institute is also working towards attaining international competitiveness. Student creations, such as an automated underwater vehicle and a Formula 1 car, have entered global competitions.

The institute has put the recent embarrassment of a senior professor using the campus and IIT brand to run a fake institute behind it. "IIT-Kharagpur is currently undergoing a transformational phase. The institute's target is to figure among the top 10 institutions in Asia and top 50 institutions in the world in the next 10 years. It wants to be a leader in the creation and dissemination of knowledge. Multidisciplinary education and research, with technology as its core, will be its focus. State-of-the-art research infrastructure is being created," says Damodar Acharya, Director, IIT-Kharagpur.

Technical education in India has expanded exponentially in recent years and the IITS continue to be the top-tier institutes. But they're still a long way from being world-class institutions: none of the IITS figure in the top 25 world university ranking for engineering and technology.

"Indian society looks at IITS as elite undergraduate institutions. This is unfortunate. IITS should have created an impact in research, postgraduate education, development of technologies for the benefit of society and providing effective academic and intellectual leadership to the society at large. This has not been the case," says IIT-Kanpur's Dhande. "Society should demand more from IITS instead of merely glorifying them as elite undergraduate colleges. Being national heroes and international zeros is not going to work for long," he adds. Sharp but sensible.

Bugatti launches ‘porcelain’ Grand Sport L’Or Blanc

The Bugatti Grand Sport L'Or Blanc is a genuine bespoke Bugatti. Its unique bodywork and porcelain elements have been crafted in association with Berlin porcelain art specialist KPM - and could even herald further production-ready collaborations in the future.

Bugatti says the Grand Sport L'Or Blanc "redefines the art of design". It is a car not intended for the road, but for the car collector's studio, and has been painted and finished to a fantastic level of detail that reflects this.

The Bugatti one-off is dominated by its amazing body finish. The surface of a white Grand Sport was marked out and painted, both by hand, to create the stunning look.

This was set off by porcelain components that herald an automotive first.

Murder 2 review

Mahesh Bhatt presents (a squirt of paan). A Vikram Bhatt production (a spew of ketchup). A Mohit Suri film (a splash of red curry). When the credits roll like this, it's not surprising that 60 percent of the film has some substitute for blood being spat on the screen. 'Murder 2' is, as you would imagine, a bloody thriller.

The film's lead hero, Arjun (Emraan Hashmi) is Goa's very own Robin Hood. An ex-cop who is now engaged in almost all illegal operations that can be managed wearing a leather jacket. He doesn't believe in God but regularly visits church to donate fat bundles of money to orphans. And yes, somewhere towards the end of the film, he does reinstate his allegiance to Christianity, inappropriately accompanied by the song 'Aye Khuda Mil Gaya'. And what transforms him into a believer is a series of painfully graphic and ridiculously illogical incidents.
Arjun's lady love, Priya (Jacqueline Fernandez) models for sleazy magazines. Naturally, in every two out of her three scenes, Priya is required to shed some part of her clothing. So, for anatomy students, it couldn't be a better way to learn about the human body. Most of Priya's dialogues are lost inside Arjun's mouth as he indulges her in one smooch-athon after another. And when she does get a chance to speak, it's a bit out of sync like the late-night dubbed teleshopping ads.
But what really adds thrill and lots of screams into this thriller is a cross-dressing psycho-killer, Dheeraj Pandey (Prashant Narayanan), who loves mutilating sex workers while singing 'Bheegey Hont Tere', unmelodiously and with sadistic lyrics. Why? Because his characterization is deep fried. Oddly enough, he gets caught early in the film and even confesses to his sinister deeds. But there are so many reels left? So, just to pass time, Arjun is assigned the task to find clues and evidence to corroborate Pandey's confession by a bewildered cop (Sudhanshu Pandey). And just to double the excitement, he has to do all this over a night.
Will Arjun manage to flick his Little Richard bangs and save Pandey's last victim? Despite confessing to finely chopping several whores, will Pandey be let off for his odd political connections? Will Priya's lips continue moving for seconds after her dialogue completes? These questions are only rhetorical and best unanswered.
The dialogues in this film are downright tacky. An interaction between the lead pair just after a ferocious make-out session goes like this. Priya: "Khaaye, Piye, Khiskay? Arjun: "Hotel mein khaane ke baad koi baitha rehta hain kya?" But the dialogues don't even compare to the magnitude of clichés in the plot. Arjun's 'Ma-Behen-Baap' have all deceased due to poverty. Eunuchs have been portrayed as a cult that worships the devil and let's not even get into the cop with the fake Goan accent.
The film's sound effects could have you shrinking into your seat. But largely, it's less scary and more disturbing. Emraan manages a great job of letting his mouth do all the acting but his constipated expressions are only marginally different from his remaining expressions. Jacqueline is an ideal pin-up girl and those considering this film just to get a glimpse of her would be happy to overlook her lack of acting skills or inability to enunciate.
One could safely call this film as the 'Silence of the Bhatts', with Emraan almost managing the Jodie Foster hairdo. And since the penalty for several murders is the same as that for one, let's just hope the third one is a bit more premeditated.

Instructions for online apply:
1. Before apply online candidates scan their photograph and signature.

But guards at the jail in the southeastern town of Chetumal grew suspicious when the woman seemed nervous as she wheeled out the bulging bag after a conjugal visit with the prisoner.
Opening the luggage, guards found Juan Ramirez folded into the fetal position in his underpants and socks, a spokeswoman for local federal police said on Tuesday.
Ramirez and his girlfriend face criminal charges over the bungled escape.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hackers took control of a FoxNews.com Twitter account on Monday and sent six false tweets saying that U.S. President Barack Obama had been shot dead, prompting an investigation by the Secret Service.
"Hackers sent out several malicious and false tweets that President Obama had been assassinated," Foxnews.com said in a statement about the latest in a wave of high-profile cyber security breaches around the world.
"Those reports are incorrect, of course, and the president is spending the July 4 holiday with his family."
The media outlet, owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, said the incident was being checked.
"The hacking is being investigated, and FoxNews.com regrets any distress the false tweets may have created," it said.
Obama is celebrating the July 4 Independence holiday with his family at the White House and was due to host military families to watch Fourth of July fireworks in the evening.
The White House declined to comment. The Secret Service, which is charged with protecting the president, said it was looking into the incident.
"The Secret Service is investigating the matter and will conduct the appropriate follow-up," spokesman George Ogilvie said.
