One Side Hustle That Pays!

Hello lovelies! Today I want to introduce a side hustle that I have been using successfully for more than 4 years. My only regret is that I did not do it sooner. :) The side hustle that I am talking about is Fiverr.

When I first heard on Fiverr in 2010 I was instantly put off by the $5 jobs I saw offered on the platform. As an experienced designer I felt that a $5 job was not an option for me. Years passed and then one day after I relocated to the Bahamas and essentially had to start all over, I decided to give it a try. I really needed extra money. Imagine my surprise when after just one week jobs started coming in and not only that, I was able to send custom orders to my clients which were all whatever price I decided was fair. Turns out, $5 is the very base price for an item on Fiverr and you can set your own price. Needless to say, I was encouraged to keep going and now I can truly say as a "Fiver Select" seller with a 5 star rating that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

How Fiverr Works

You do not have to be a designer to work on Fiverr and you do not have to do labor intensive work to earn money. Just find something you like to do that you do well, set your price and open your shop. Don't overthink it. My simple jobs start at $15 but Fiverr has 3 tiers of prices/packages you can set, my highest is $50. My Median package is $30. Many times people request custom packages though and they can be hundreds or even more than a thousand. It depends on what your customer needs.

To better understand how Fiverr works, there are two parties involved:

Sellers: A seller is anyone looking to sell a service to earn money. Simply put, sellers are freelancers showcasing their skills and services to prospective buyers. A seller lists their services on Fiverr alongside the amount they charge.
Buyers: A buyer is anyone looking to purchase a service on the platform. Buyers can use the search tool to browse seller profiles and find the ones who meet their requirements before placing an order. The bottom line is that buyers hire sellers to accomplish specific tasks.

One of the things I like best about Fiverr is that you can get help creating anything on their platform. From interior design to ghost writing, web design, architectural drawings and video creation to some pretty unusual gigs...like yodeling for instance. Trust me, you can find whatever you can imagine and then some. :) Fiverr also has multiple ways to make money on their platform. Sign up and invest in some of the talented people there. Many businesses use the design services to grow their businesses and most times it is at the fraction of the cost they pay elsewhere. This allows for business opportunities and networking and most of all, PROFIT! Start using Fiverr to grow your business, trust me it is one of the best strategies I have ever used!

Well, my dear blog, it's been a looooooooong time since I showed you any love but I promise to make it up to you.

There are so many things that happened to me in the last 5 years. I moved from the US back to the Bahamas and then the love of my life passed away 2 years ago in my arms, in the middle of Covid. Needless to say, life in the last few years has been really challenging at times. Forever the optimist though, I look for the bright spot in everything. Today I was browsing and came across these little beauties. They really made me smile. If my husband was here I could see him purchasing one for me and hiding it under my pillow. :) Today is the anniversary of his passing and I miss him terribly but I realize his spirit is still here with me, always showing up in little ways so I know he is here.

Art Crush Of The Week

Hello lovelies! Hope you are enjoying the Easter holidays. :)

Today, I am so excited to share with you an artist that I stumbled upon last week. This gal is baaaaaaaaaaaad to the bone talented. Her Art keeps pushing all my happy buttons and I find myself smiling as I drool over her pieces. And trust me, I am super picky so this is not the "norm" for me.

Well, without further babbling, let me let you know a little about my new obsession.

Emilia Elfe a Moscow-based collage artist creating decadent, vintage-inspired graphics. Using old fashion campaign images from the 40s and 50s, Elfe brings back retro glam with jewelry cut-outs that create alternative fashion covers. In her art, she makes references to the masters of fashion photography – from Horst P. Horst to Richard Avedon.

So fab! It was so hard for me to choose from her work. I loved them all, so, please forgive me for the excessive pics. All are different and so stunning in their own way! Enjoy. :)

A Little Bit A FarmHouse In My Lifeeeeeee!!!

I made this from twigs and shells. These blooms will never wither!!! :)

I really don't understand what is happening with me but man, am I making things these days!!!! My crafting energy is through the roof. In the last two weeks I have tiled a table, a vanity, made bracelets, necklaces, a floral arrangement, A farmhouse graphic sign, a large abstract Art, designed numerous prints and now I am working on hand painted coasters. The artistic force has been strong with this one lately!!!

So without much ado here are some of the goodies these hands lovingly forged....And by the way, I have been really feeling modern farmhouse design so these for the most part inspired by that style.

My first attempt at a Farmhouse hand painted wall hanging......I really like how it turned out. :) I just grabbed a piece of left over wood from my husband's stash and stained it with black liquid shoe polish/stain. Say what?? Yes, I did. It worked like a charm, plus it has an applicator for easy application. Why did I use shoe polish instead? Well, it allowed some of the wood to show through, it dried very fast, is a permanent stain and did I say how easy it was to do? lol. It was.

Aren't these gorg???!!! My brother-in-law gifted these lovely sea fans to me and the blue tiled table is the one I mentioned above. I tiled it but have not grouted it yet. I had so much fun going mad Max on those tiles with a hammer. Who knew!!!

The Abstract painting shown here only took me about 30 minutes to paint but it is so light and airy in the space. Perfect for the area where it now resides. Can't wait to paint another. I like the challenge of painting without thinking of a specific image. So freeing!!

Finally the jewelry. I like to recycle beads and pendants and I also love incorporating nature into my pieces...hence the lovely tamarind seeds in the bracelets and the reclaimed wooden beads. I also used recycled glass beads. That seafoam green color gets me every time. It's hands down my fav.

Well, that is all for now but rest assured, lots more to come. I hope this inspires you to go a little craft crazy yourself. You never know what you can create.

One DIY Blog Crush and Some Pretty Epic Tee Makeovers

If you've been on my blog for more than 3 seconds, you already know that I am a DIY fanatic. Like I need DIY Anonymous fanatic. It is a condition however, that I hope to never, ever find a cure for. :)

So, as all crafters like to do, we are always scouting our next project. Mine just happened to be a small heap of cast-a-way t.shirts that my hubby no longer wants. Ahem, well, I did help him a little to reach that conclusion but hey, tomayto, tomahto...:)

Anyway, there I was on the web enjoying all the dIY inspiration for my new project when, boom! I landed on a blog that made me do a double take. I mean this lady is like my DIY twin. We have similar taste, style and creativity. How do I know this, well I was still there 2 hours later on a busy day like today. I heart her blog to the 10th... Her site, Trash to Couture, was created in 2010 to inspire a less wasteful approach to the mass-produced fashion mainstream through DIY sewing tutorials and repurposed fashions. So smart, so fab!

This tee was made with a doily.....can't wait to try this!

One of the things I like most about her projects are the fact that the finished product always look so polished, tasteful and chic. Like they were meant to become what they are. I love that! "I want to make everything on her site.

I. Am. So. Not. Kidding. :)

But, before I skip on down the bunny trail, let us start with that heap of shirts I mentioned. These are the inspiration for my tee makeovers, and they are all from Trash to Couture. What do you think?

A Lesson From Shakespeare on being a "Malm"

If there is one thing I learned in life, it is that nothing stays the same. From the sand on the seashore to our waistlines and and relationships, we all change and grow. Every day. Sometimes for our betterment, sometimes not.

Recently, I had a major change in my life. It was as if I woke up and suddenly I had become a, gulp, "malm." When did this happen? But more importantly, how?

I searched my face for wrinkles, sags, and bags. You know, the stuff that old age is made of. I saw nothing in particular that wasn't there before. Hmmm. Is it something am giving off subconsciously? Is it my manner, my tone, a look? Or, is this some nebulous phenomenon that happens to all women at an exact predestined moment in their lives? C'mon! THIS GIRL WANTS TO KNOW.

Don't get me wrong. I know that malm is a term of respect and endearment. I could be called much worse and I have. Just not to my face....... On most Days.

The question is, what is it about the "malm" word that gives me the hebbeee geebees. On the surface malm is not a bad word, not really. But seriously I hate it.

After giving it some thought, this is what I figured out.

Why The Word Malm Is A Soul Crushing Blow To Some Women

A "malm" is officially recognized as grown. A grown woman is supposed to act grown...do grown things. All the time.

"Malm" is telling me that at a glance you think I am old or older than you....

"Malm" suggest that I am no longer "cool", or current

"Malm" informs me that I becoming more invisible or less attractive. Every day.

"Malm" makes me think of depends and my teeth soaking in a glass next to my bed

"Malm" says that my boobs are in a race to reach my waist or will be soon

So in a nutshell, "malm" is the signal that I have reached the end of my youth and all the glory that goes with it.

And so, do you see why I hate this word? Sigh. As Shakespeare wrote, "rage against the dying of the light". He probably wrote that the day he became a "sir", so Shakespeare I feel you. Thank you. I am not going down without a fight. I will NOT stop until I am un-malmed. I promise. :)

Top 5 Naturalista Products!

Hello lovelies!

Today am gonna give you the scoop on my favorite products. And trust me, I am NOT someone to share a product unless it is life changing. The products below are "till death do us part" . Seriously.

1. Cantu - Sistas...sigh, you know how it is when you try to tame your hair but your hair says "No not today! and refuse to cooperate...." This is a job for Cantu.

I have very thick coarse natural hair that has a tendency to dry out very quickly and break if not addressed soon enough. Cantu changed all that for me. Now, my hair is soft, moisturized and super healthy. No more breakage what so ever. What I love best is that, as soon as you put a little on your hair, literally in seconds your hair is soft. It's like my hungry hair just devours it instantly. My hair strands are so strong, my husband jokes that he can sew with them. :)

Some people have an issue with Cantu because if you apply too much it can leave a bit of residue which makes the hair take on a little whitish tinge to it. I personally do not have this issue. Nothing else that I have ever tried works like this so residue or not....I ride or die with ma cantu.

2. Dudu Soap - Warning: TMI Ahead

So, I live in the Carribbean and here, dudu means poop. Sorry, TMI I know but it's true. And, due to that fact, I was turned off from this soap for the longest time. Then, one day my sister had a rash and a pharmacist recommended this soap. Long story short, she got great results in one week! I decided at that point to jump in!

Let me tell you, this soap is the truth! It lathers and cleans like no other soap I have used, ever. My skin hates soap so the fact that I can even use this soap without breaking out is amazing to me. I have used all sorts of natural shea butter soaps before and NEVER had these results. My skin loves it. In one week I went from having a bad breakout out of hormonal acne and dark marks to acne totally disappearing and the marks are significantly lighter. And, like I mentioned, this happened in the first week!

3. Hemp Oil

If you can get this oil, RUN and go get some. My love of hemp oil started when someone I love and respect recommended it to me. He said it changed his life and that it could do the same for me and so I bought one to see what the hype was. Best decision ever!!!!!

I used to take vitamins and Cod liver oil to get all the nutrients my hair needs to thrive and also for my overall heath. One of my objectives was to get as much omega 3s in my diet as possible since it is so good for my hair, skin, bones and well being. When I started taking hemp it changed my omega 3 game totally. Instead of taking 4 different things to get enough omega 3's I only take hemp oil. It is loaded with omega 3s so I get all I need from one product.. My hair has grown so much and it is so thick and healthy. My skin also has a lovely glow and I feel very good overall. Hemp is also good for pain. I use my hemp oil for headaches, as a rub on my sore muscles, for any kind of skin irritation, and on my hair. Every night I take a tsp before bed and I sleep like a baby. E V E R Y night. And trust me, prior to this I suffered from insomnia so I loooooovvvveeee my hemp oil. We are pals for life.

4. Charcoal

As we age our teeth can become discolored among other issues so it is good to do what we can to help them not to look Sponge Bob-ish in color. Just sayin...

I personally use charcoal. I stumbled on it when I was on Amazon a few years ago and never looked back. My sister also reminded me that our grandma ONLY used this product. I did not remember that until she reminded me and it is true. My grandma had a beautiful smile until she passed at 97. Charcoal will lighten your teeth with the first use and it cleans like no other! It looks gross while you are brushing with it am not gonna front but after you rinse thoroughly, you will not regret it.

5. Sudden Change Facial Mask

Last but not least, my favorite facial mask. This green tea mask softens, tightens, brightens and rejuvenates the skin like no other I have used....and the price is just as incredible. Less than 10 bucks folks, now you can't beat that with a stick! It is well worth looking green like the hulk for a little while. :) Trust me, your skin will thank you for it.

Weekend Warrior Project - Dresser Makeover, Guest post by Shanda Neighbors

I tend to be an all or nothing kinda gal. I'm either doing everything, or nothing at all. This weekend due to the weather and the time change, I was in do everything mode. We bought a house a just over a year ago. It was a foreclosure and the task of making it home on a tiny budget was frankly, overwhelming. For the longest time I did nothing... but complain. In the last few months though, the idea of starting small has gained momentum. I decided I'd tackle my "projects" one at a time. This weekend's project was to make a french mid century modern chest in the master bedroom reflective of the people that share that room. Sounds simple, but my husband taste is more like this:

Now doesn't that just scream MAN!!!! The problem is my taste is more like this:

I'll admit it, this is feminine. So how do I make us both happy? How do I take this:

Thanksgiving is almost here and it is one of my favorite holidays for obvious reasons! :) If you are hosting though, getting the thanksgiving decor together can be a little daunting, especially if you are unsure of what you want and running out of time...and you probably are. No worries though, this post will either provide an idea you can execute or spark one of your own.

What is more earthy, humble, simple, budget friendly and easy to find than pumpkins and pine cones? Answer, not much! So, for this thanksgiving I think keeping things simple and using elements that are easy to find and abundant is the perfect solution for your table setting! And don't let the word "simple" and "humble" fool you. Pine cones and pumpkins can be quite spectacular!

True Confession Of A Rat Race Escapee

Two days ago I celebrated my birthday and as usual it was a time of deep inner searching and reflection for me. I thought about my journey to the person I am today. Emotionally. Spiritually. Physically. And financially. Am I living up to my true potential?

In 2006 when I graduated from university my goal was to eventually step away from the 9-5 and support myself by owning and operating my own business. It was something I wanted sooooo bad! It was a goal then, but now I can say I am DOING it. I officially began working from home 7 years ago and never looked back. It was hard, really hard but I had to get off the hamster wheel. I felt so stifled, it truly felt like a "rat race"

I made up my mind that I would grind and research and do whatever was lawful to see results! Along the way I've had epic fails and countless booohooo sessions. Sometimes I struggled really hard to pay the bills but with the support of my husband, we got through it. Fast forward 3 years and I found myself separated and alone. Suddenly I was at rock bottom wondering, now what am I gonna do? Thankfully I was able to lean heavily on my faith in God which provided guidance and an endless supply of emotional strength. I was also blessed to have support from family and friends and then a little later, God totally restored my marriage.

Out of The Nest

Well, every baby bird must leave the nest eventually so 3 years ago year I took a leap of faith. I moved to a new State, and decided to just do everything in my power to succeed. I decided go hard with Ebay in addition to my Graphic Design business. I also set up Etsy accounts as well and created new products. As time passed my hard work started paying off! I spent countless hours researching home based jobs, lost money with some of them but learned a lot along the way as well so it was the most beneficial experience as a business person so far. I regret nothing.

As I write this, there have been changes yet again in my life. I now reside in my native country. The Bahamas.

While my location has changed I am grateful that my outlook on life is still the same. Same Drive. Same Faith. Same Passion to go and get it for myself!

I am not a millionaire by any standard or affiliate guru or any of those things. I am just someone who learned to support myself from home so I can live the life that feeds my spirit. Someone who believes any dream or goal can be achieved if one is willing to work at it and above all be honest and diligent. Money can be made and lost in a second but character is the building block of lasting success.

And so my friends, to your success and mine!

Fabulous Ideas To Dress Up Your Tee!

Hello Lovelies!

I have a confession. I did not like t.shirts at all until a few years ago. I know, I know, sounds a bit strange but it's true. You see, I always equated tees with sports wear and overtly casual outfits......and I am NOT a sporty kind of person fashion wise. At ALL.

Wondering what changed my mind? Don't laugh but my conversion to t. shirt wearing is so outlandish. Ok, so I was browsing the web and stumbled on this pic of Michael Jackson from his Thriller album.

Strangely, I felt drawn to the tee he wore with this red jacket. Super cute, like can I have it, cute. The whole combo was fab but the tee and the belts he wore got my attention.

Then it happened.

My Artist/designer's brain took over. I pictured that tee minus the jacket with a black pencil skirt and a simpler belt and stilettos.....

Wow! So chic!!!! So unexpected. So NON sporty!

Since that time to now, I have a healthy collection of tees. I love them plain and in varying shapes and styes but my fav will always be graphic tees. Hey, it's my first love.

Royal Wedding - Prince Harry And Meghan

So, if you are counted among us earthlings, by now you know that we had a Royal wedding last Saturday. You also know that it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied and the knot in all the pomp and splender that we expected and we loved it all. From the start to the finish it was riveting. We watched history being made and most of us were excited and happy to watch it happen.

When I was a little girl I was fortunate enough to watch Princess Diana's wedding, then in 2011 I also watched Kate Middleton and William's ~~extravaganza~~ wedding, as well. Both were captivatingly

There were so many expectations for Harry and Meghan's nuptials though. Not to mention all the drama and speculation leading up to this wedding which only heightened the excitement.

We were not disappointed!

From Prince Harry walking into the church with so much swagger, to the two precious little boys who held the veil and Meghan's carriage ride to the church with her mom, just before the dress reveal. I and the rest of the world was spell bound.

And speaking of the dress!!!! The Givenchy was so NOT what I expected. This very simple, sophisticated and modern silhouette was very refreshing and suited Meghan to a tee. It could have been a little bit more fitted to her body (because I am super nit-picky) but never-the-less, she looked absolutely stunning in her gown.

I don't know why I'm wired this way, but when I hear upbeat music, I can't help myself, I have to move to it. I can't tell you how many times I've been in a crowd, heard a great song and felt like I was losing my mind trying to control the urge to dance, then looked around and it seemed like no one else could hear the music playing or was having the same issue. I really don't even have to hear music out loud, if it's in my head, same problem. My sister even came up with a name for it, "random dancing." Apparently I break out in spontaneous fits of dancing. Her son, my nephew has the same ailment. Whatever is wrong with me I've learned to except it. It's my normal, and thirty some years have taught me this oddity isn't going anywhere.

Lately, it's been harder to control the urge. What I need is a few hours of nonstop dancing, to get it all out of my system. I feel like I need to just hit a dance floor (most likely in my kitchen) dance like crazy, and leave it all there. If I don't address this soon, I'm afraid I'll end up like this guy:

Rags To Riches - DIY Rag Rug Inspiration

This is literally a rag to riches story. Well, sort of. I'll explain.

Have you ever seen one of these beauties? Am sure you have at some point in your life. Can you believe they were made from rags? Yes, you heard right. Rags, my friends. These rugs were crafted from old clothing and fabric that we all have lying around the house including my personal fav, old t.shirts!

As you may already know if you have visited my blog for more than I minute... I love, love, love a DIY project! But, what I love even more than that is making something meaningful from otherwise discarded or useless things.

In other words, I saw these rugs and that was it. Love at first sight. I just knew that I had to make one of these rugs. I presently own 2 of these gorgeous rugs already (I bought them) but now I am gonna jump in and make one!. So siked! :)

I may be a tad biased but lemons in my opinion are extraordinary! Though they do not get the same recognition that apples receive, they are just as important to us health-wise and other wise. If not more so. Lemons are underrated rockstars in the fruit game. Seriously.

Think about all the medicine you take to get well, especially if you have a cold. More than likely a few of them use lemons as an additive or primary ingredient. Lemons are so powerful for our health that lemon water is one of the most popular daily recommendations for optimum health.

Aside from healing our bodies, lemons also dominate the food game! I mean, what would we ever do without, lemoncello, lemon chicken, or lemonade???? I personally cannot imagine a world without lemon merinque. Oh, the horror!!!!!

Lemons are as versatile as they are yellow. The lemon can be used effectively in so many ways, including as decoration in home decor. My t. shirts are generally inspirational, God inspired and some are just down right zany...like me. Trust me, it has been a looooooooooong exhausting road to get here but, here I am about to kill it. A Tale Of Love And Lessons

I had the kind of relationship that was iron clad. One that could never fail or falter...... until it did.

I had been married to the most wonderful man on earth for almost twenty years when my whole world shifted of it's axis. We had been living long distance for a considerable amount of years when one day we both realized that we were not "as happy" anymore. We still loved each other madly but over the years he had built his career in one country and I in another. Neither of us wanted to ask the other to give up his or her life work to move and start over, but we both wanted the same thing. To be together. Again.

In the main time the separation was taking a major toll on us. We were both miserable without each other. And so one day, in a confused and frustrated emotional state, we decided to just end it.

Our relationship had become, too hard, challenging and the separation from each other, a major source of tension.

There was seemingly no solution to our dilemma. If I asked him to forfeit everything he had spent his life blood building, surely he will resent me and he felt I would resent him if he asked the same of me. What a colossal mess!

And so, for two years, we grieved for what could have been. We called each other from time to time, and lost ourselves in each other for a few minutes. It was always the same, like slipping on your favorite pair of jeans.

Dependable.

Comfortable.

Effortless.

Just Right

Two years later, we still had not pulled the trigger on getting a divorce. Neither of us had the strength or fortitude to follow through on it, though we knew it was inevitable. To make matters worse, neither of us could date another person. He was stuck on comparing other women to me and I compared other men to him. Needless to say, everyone we could potentially date was all wrong for us! No matter how good looking or good they were. Clearly, it wasn't them. It was us.

Eventually, my hubby and I realized that we had made a huge mistake. It was clear to us now that what we had was rare. Something to cherish and nurture. All we needed to be happy was each other. To hell with all else!

Today we are together. My husband and I wake up every day next to each other. We are happier than we have ever been. Over the years we have learned lessons that makes us appreciate what we have. Ironically, our two year separation has done more for us than the best marriage therapist.

Here Are A Few Lessons We Learned Along The Way.

Never sweat or nit pick the small stuff

Laugh and enjoy each other every day. No excuses!

Work and set goals as a couple but never worry or quarrel about money or bills

Be grateful for what you do have

Trust each other completely

Communicate your feelings!

R E S P E CT each other. Period.

Never go to sleep angry or upset

Show your love by your actions!
Give impromptu massages or cook/order each other's favorite dish

Today, while I may not be a guru of love, I have learned enough to make a significant difference in my own relationship. I will never, ever make the mistake again to think that my career or anything else is more important than my relationship.
If given a choice, I choose LOVE!
