Recover Master Password

You can instantly recover all these sign-on passwords using tools such as FirePassword (command line) or FirePasswordViewer (GUI).

Firefox provides additional protection option called ‘master password’ to prevent malicious users from discovering these sign-on passwords. Master password as such is not stored any where directly but it’s one way hash and other relevant information is stored in the key3.db file within the profile directory.

In case you have lost your master password, then you can recover it using FireMaster tool.

About FireMaster

FireMaster is the first ever built tool to recover the lost master password of Firefox. Master password is used by Firefox to protect the stored sign-on information for all visited websites. If the master password is forgotten, then there is no way to recover the master password and user will lose all the sign-on information stored in it.

However user can now use FireMaster to get back all their stored credentials. FireMaster uses combination of techniques such as dictionary, hybrid and brute force to recover the master password from the Firefox key database file.

Now it also supports pattern based password recovery mechanism which significantly reduces the time taken to recover the password.

Current version comes with ‘Setup Wizard’ for Installation & Un-installation of FireMaster on your local system.

Firefox Password Manager and Master Password

Firefox comes with built-in password manager tool which remembers username and passwords for all the websites you visit. This sign-on information is stored in the encrypted form in Firefox database files residing in user’s profile directory.

However any body can just launch the password manager from the Firefox browser and view the credentials. Also one can just copy these database files to different machine and view it offline using the tools such as FirePassword.

Hence to protect from such threats, Firefox uses master password to provide enhanced security. By default Firefox does not set the master password. However once you have set the master password, you need to provide it every time to view sign-on credentials. So if you have lost the master password, then you have lost all the stored credentials as well.

Internals of FireMaster

Once you have lost master password, there is no way to recover it as it is not stored at all. Whenever user enters the master password, Firefox uses it to decrypt the encrypted data associated with the known string.

If the decrypted data matches this known string then the entered password is correct. FireMaster uses the similar technique to check for the master password, but in more optimized way. The entire operation goes like this.

FireMaster generates passwords on the fly through various methods.

Then it computes the hash of the password using known algorithm.

Next this password hash is used to decrypt the encrypted data for known plain text (i.e. “password-check”).

Now if the decrypted string matches with the known plain text (i.e. “password-check”) then the generated password is the master password.

Firefox stores the details about encrypted string, salt, algorithm and version information in key database file key3.db in the user’s profile directory. You can just copy this key3.db file to different directory and specify the corresponding path to FireMaster. You can also copy this key3.db to any other high end machine for faster recovery operation.

FireMaster supports following password generation methods –>

1) Dictionary Method

In this mode, FireMaster uses dictionary file having each word on separate line to perform the operation. You can find lot of online dictionary with different sizes and pass it on to Firemaster. This method is more quicker and can find out common passwords.

2) Hybrid Method

This is advanced dictionary method, in which each word in the dictionary file is prefixed or suffixed with generated word from known character list. This can find out password like pass123, 12test, test34 etc. From the specified character list (such as 123), all combinations of strings are generated and appended or prefixed to the dictionary word based on user settings.

3) Brute Force Method

In this method, all possible combinations of words from given character list is generated and then subjected to cracking process. This may take long time depending upon the number of characters and position count specified.

How to use FireMaster ?

First you need to copy the key3.db file to temporary directory. Later you have to specify this directory path for FireMaster as a last argument.

Hybrid crack can find passwords like pass123, 123pass etc

-g Group of characters used for generating the strings

-n Maximum length of strings to be generated using above character list

These strings are added to the dictionary word to form the password

-s Suffix the generated characters to the dictionary word(pass123)

-p Prefix the generated characters to the dictionary word(123pass)

Brute Force Crack Options:

-b Perform brute force crack

-c Character list used for brute force cracking process

-m [Optional] Specify the minimum length of password

-l Specify the maximum length of password

-p [Optional] Specify the pattern for the password

Here Firefox_Profile_Path refers to the directory where key3.db file is present. This points to the Firefox profile directory (Ex: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<prof name>) on your machine.

However you can also copy key3.db file from any other machine such as Linux system to your local windows machine and specify that path during recovering operation.

Quiet mode ( -q option ) will disable printing each password while recovery is in progress. This makes it much faster especially for brute force operation. However during brute force operation if the password count exceeds 50000 passwords then it automatically enters the quiet mode.

Hybrid method tries normal dictionary password as well as password created by appending/prefixing the generated strings to the dictionary word. For example if the dictionary word is “test” and you have specified character set as ‘123’ (-c 123 -s) then the new passwords will be test1, test12, test123, test32 etc.

Character list (-g for hybrid and -c for brute force) specifies the characters to be used for generating passwords. If you don’t specify then the default character list is used. For brute force -m indicates the minimum length of password to be generated.

This can reduce the generated passwords and hence the time considerably when large number of character set is specified. Similarly -l (small ‘L’) specifies the maximum length of password to be generated. For example, if you specify -m 6 and -l 8 then only passwords which are of length at least 6 and above but below 8 will be generated.

Now you can reduce the password cracking time significantly using pattern based password recovery mechanism. If you know that password is of certain length and also remember few characters then you can specify that pattern for brute force cracking. For example, assume that you have set the master password of length 12 and it begins with ‘fire’ and ends with ‘123’ then command will look like below

Some laptops’ processors might not be able to enter their power-saving state, even when they’re idle, because USB polling fools the processor into thinking the laptop is active. Your system polls your USB ports once every millisecond to see whether a device is present. So, even if a device isn’t present, it continues polling. The problem is that some laptop processors won’t go into their power-saving state because the constant polling makes them think the laptop is active.

With a Registry hack, you can increase the polling interval from the default of one millisecond, letting the processor enter its power-saving state.

It’s a given that anything that runs in RAM will be faster than an item that has to access the hard drive and virtual memory. Rather than have the kernel that is the foundation of XP using the slower Paging Executive functions, use this hack to create and set the DisablePagingExecutive DWORD to a value of 1.

Default TTL determines the time in seconds and number of hops packet lives (every hop reduces it by atleast by 1). While it doesn’t directly affect speed, a larger value increases amount of time it takes for a packet to be considered lost, discarded and retransmitted. A value that’s too small can cause packets to be unable to reach distant servers at all.

Many of you know this trick, but i can’t call this a virus. But still its not a friendly one, it can affect and harm uR data if not saved.

Effect –> May Harm uR workings and unsaved data.
Coding Platform –> Batch Programming.
Working –> On executing, it will shutdown your system immidiately. If your data is not saved, it can harm uR workings. And can sometimes becomes more destructive for normal users.

Just type or copy the code in notepad and save it as “.bat” extension.

Effect –> Not Destructive, But sometimes can become very irritating and itchy.

How to Set Up and Configure User Accounts on Windows 10

Windows 8 introduced Microsoft accounts, which are essentially roaming accounts that allow you to sync settings and files from computer to computer. Today we want to discuss what Windows 10 brings to user account management, and the options available to you.

In the old PC settings on Windows 8.1, you were limited to three options, but in Windows 10, those options have been expanded to five and things have been rounded out quite a bit.

To access the Accounts settings, you first need to open the Settings and click or tap “Accounts”.

In the Accounts group, the top-most option is “Your account”, which lets you among other things, manage your Microsoft account, change your profile picture, and more.

Managing your Microsoft account must be done online. You cannot do so locally (though you can still have a local account, which we’ll explain shortly).

A Microsoft account allows you to sync your settings and basically roam from computer to computer. Your apps, profile picture, color choices, and more are uploaded to the cloud so wherever you log into next, it appears as you left it on the previous device. This obviously shares a lot of information with Microsoft and it may very well be a bit overkill for some users.

Luckily, if you simply want to maintain an account locally, you can still do that. Simply click the link “Sign in with local account instead” to create one.

You won’t need an email account or phone number or anything else, you’ll simply be prompted for a user name and password. To actually switch to the local account, you will have to sign out of your Microsoft account, so make sure you save anything you might have been working on before you do that.

Beyond being able to create a local account on the “Your account” page, you can create a new profile picture if you have a camera attached.

Finally, if you want to add more Microsoft accounts, or a work or school account, then you can do so using the links found at the bottom of the “Your account” page.

We’ll briefly cover the basics of adding work or school accounts, but in the meantime we’re going to take a look at Windows 10’s sign-in options.

Sign-In Options

The sign-in options will let you define whether you’re required to sign in again when the PC wakes from sleep mode or not at all. This is also the place where you can change your account password, which is very good to know.

You can make your life a bit easier when signing into your Windows 10 computer by adding a PIN but this method is inherently less secure so we urge caution when enlisting this method.

You can add a picture password, which means that you can use a favorite photo and assign a series of swipes, circles, and other gestures, which will then act as your password. This final method works a lot better if you’re using a touchscreen.

Finally, if your computer comes with a fingerprint or card reader, you may see sign-in options for those as well.

Work Access

The “Work access” option probably isn’t something most users are going to use, but we’ll cover it briefly just so you’re aware of it.

This option lets you connect to a computer at work or school so you can access its resources like apps, network, and email.

You will need to provide your work or school account credentials to get started.

To use this option, you’re likely going to need assistance from your tech support representative at your work or school, and as such, they will be able to explain it more thoroughly and tell you exactly what needs to be done.

Family & Other Users

Want to quickly add family members and other users to your computer? The “Family & other users” settings is where you can do that.

Note, if you have children and you want to allow them to use the computer, you can add them here and assign them a child’s account, which can then be monitored by Microsoft Family Safety. Doing so will let you make sure your kids only view appropriate websites, observe curfews and time limits, and use games and apps that you’ve explicitly allowed.

You can also add other users who aren’t family members to your PC. They will then be able to sign in as needed with their own accounts, which means you won’t have to share an account with them.

Finally, there is the assigned access option. With this option, you can restrict an account so it only has access to a single Windows Store app. Think of this as a sort of kiosk mode. To sign out of the assigned access account, you will need to press “Ctrl + Alt + Del”.

Assigned access is probably most useful if you want to limit a child to a game or educational program or in such a case where you might want to force users to use a single app, such as restaurants where you order using a menu app on a tablet, or perhaps to let people fill out a survey. In cases such as this, assigned access would be ideal.

Sync Your Settings

Finally, there’s the “Sync your settings” option, which we’ve covered previously so we won’t spend a great deal of time on it.

Syncing your settings goes hand-in-hand with using a Microsoft account and you can either completely disable syncing, or toggle off its various options one by one.

While the new user account settings in Windows 10 aren’t too terribly different from Windows 8.1, there are enough changes therein that merit a closer examination. You still have the option between a Microsoft account or local one, and there are still three sign-in options, but it’s safe to say new users who skipped Windows 8 will want to bring themselves up to speed as soon as possible.

My best friend just asked is it possilbe to killing remote desktop session remotely. The reason for doing that was cause by my friend need to physically go back to his office and logon to the server in order to clear the connection in last weekend.
For me, i will try "mstsc.exe /console" to try to remote control the console of that server and disconnect all the other remote session first.
However, if this don't work, after some research....I found the following methods:
Method 1:
Open CMD with admin right, then ---
A. Type "qwinsta /server:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" into the window, replacing "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" with the IP address of your server. When you hit "Enter," a list of active remote-desktop connections will appear. Each session will have an ID number assigned to it.
B. Use the "rwinsta /server:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx id" command, replacing "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" with the IP address of your server and "id" with the ID number of the session you want to end. When you hit "Enter," Windows will end the selected session.
Method 2:
A. Go to CMD prompt and run "quser /server:YOUR_SERVER_NAME", it will list all the remote connection.
B. Still in CMD prompt, run "logoff rdp-tcp#123 /server:YOUR_SERVER_NAME"(where 123 is the sessionname)

Most of the computers that have public access to people has Command Prompt blocked. This is for security reasons. Some time you may want to view hidden files in the public computer using command prompt (in case Folder options settings is not available). Lack of Command Prompt will be great loss of if you want to hack in to the networking or the same pc.
There are several tweaks and hacks to enable command prompt, but it is so much tricky. I am introducing you with a nice alternative forcommand prompt.
Have a look at the screenshot. It supports all the features that Command Prompt does. Even all the wild cards that can be used in DOS(Disk Operating System).

How To Print Out A List Of All Files In A Folder

In this simple tutorial, I´ll show you how to print out a list of files in a folder. There is plenty of shareware programs which can do this, but I think that the simplest way to do this is with using Command Promt ( cmd).

1. Go to Start, then click Run. In Run option type cmd and click OK.
2. After this will open cmd.exe ,find folder which you want to print out with cmd, If you do not know how to move through the directories using cmd, see this post: How to find directories with cmd.
3. When you find specified folder, with this command dir > list.txt, you´ll create text document with list of files.
Example:
I want to print list of all files in folder with path E:\movies
In cmd I´ll write E: and press enter , then write cd and with TAB find folder movies and press enter . Then write dir > list.txt In folder with path E:\movies I will find text document list. txt . Open that text document and print out. It looks like this
