Vijay to join Mani Ratnam for Ponniyin Selvan

The saying ‘tough times don’t last for ever’ seems to come true as regards Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay’s profession. After facing many hiccoughs and speed bumps in his career in the recent times, Vijay is all set to raise like a phoenix with impressive projects in his kitty. If sources in the industry are to be believed, Vijay will be doing the role of Vandhiya Thevan in the historical project Ponniyin Selvan immortalized by Kalki Krishnamurthy to be directed by director Mani Ratnam. More details on the rest of the cast is awaited.

Beside this, Vijay will also be donning the role of Aamir Khan in Nanban, the Tamil remake of Three Idiots being directed by Shankar. Mani Ratnam has still not held any discussions with Vijay pertaining to the next film that he is to direct, reports sources close to the actor.

All that the ace director did was to have asked Vijay’s time for a discussion and the actor has agreed to it. The meeting has not yet taken place but will happen very soon.

Ever since news made it that Mani Rathnam is to direct a period flick with Vijay, Vikram and Vishal, there have been rumors that he is working on bringing the classic novel Ponniyin Selvan on screen and Vijay is to play the Vanthiyathevan role in it.

But sources close to the Ilayathalapathy state that since the discussion is yet to happen nothing can be disclosed now.

எனக்கு ஒரு வித்தியாசமான வழக்கம் உள்ளது. அது, தூக்கத்தில் நடப்பது. ஆனால் யாருக்கும் என்னால் தொந்தரவு ஏற்பட்டதில்லை. ரஜினியின் ரசிகை நான். அவருடன் ஜோடியாக ஒருபடத்திலாவது நடிக்க ஆசை. விஜய்யும் எனக்குப் பிடித்த நடிகர்தான். அவருடனும் நடிக்க ஆசை.

காதல் அனுபவம்…

காதலிக்காத அல்லது காதலில் விழாத இளம் பெண்கள் யார்தான் இருக்க முடியும். அந்த வகையில், எனக்கும் காதல் அனுபவம் உண்டு. கல்லூரி வாழ்க்கையில் காதலித்துள்ளேன். ஆனால் பயம், வெட்கம் காரணமாக காதலை சொல்லவில்லை. அது நிறைவேறாமலே போய்விட்டது.

இனி புதிதாக காதலிக்க வேண்டும். எனக்கென்று ஒருவர் நிச்சயம் இருப்பார். இப்போது எனக்கு யாருடனும் காதல் இல்லை. அதனால் காதலர் தினத்தில் படப்பிடிப்பில் இருப்பேன்.

Vijay Becomes Dupe for Raghava Lawrence

Director Shankar is finding best actors for his Tamil and Telugu remake of ‘3 Idiots’ titled ‘Nanban’. With Vijay, Srikanth and Jeeva playing lead roles, the addition of SJ Suryah has made the project more sensational as his characterization will add more to the humor quotients in this movie. Now there’s another special attraction to the film as Shankar has signed Raghava Lawrence for a cameo role. Initially, it was Prasanna supposed to perform the character, but wasn’t able to sign due to his prior commitments with other projects.

Guess what’s the role Raghava has got to play in ‘Nanban’? Vijay joins the engineering college with a wrong identity of Raghava Lawrence due to some situational problems. When Jeeva and Srikanth go in search of their friend, the mystery is unraveled leading them to farthest ends of India to find their friend, who changed their lives.

The role was performed by Javed Jaffrey in ‘3 Idiots’ and his scenes are the major twists in the tale laced with hilarious moments.

Nanban happenings

Three idiots is being remade in Tamil as Nanban which has Vijay, Jiiva and Srikanth playing the lead along with Ileana playing the lady lead.

Also this film has Anuya of SMS fame, Sathyaraj, Sathyan, S.J.Surya alongwith a whole lot of prominent artistes in this film. The first schedule of this film is over in Coimbatore with Jiiva, Srikanth, Ileana and Sathyaraj.

It was a grand wedding scene. The second schedule is being planned in Dheradun where Vijay will join the team. In the meantime the director and cameraman are in Italy and UK scouting for unseen locations for the songs.

Director Shankar always shoots the songs of his film in virgin locations making it a visual treat for his audiences.

Even as the countdown has started for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, all eyes are on Vijay, who recently came down heavily on the ruling party in his interview to a Tamil magazine.

Buzz is that the Ilaya Thalapathi would start a whirlwind tour and meet his fans all over the State, to know their mood and aspirations. “He will make a decision on the completion of the tour,” sources close to him say.

It is to be noted that Vijay’s father and popular director S A Chandrasekar met twice AIADMK general secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Rumour mills claim he might contest the Assembly polls on AIADMK ticket.

Meanwhile, there are also reports that the Vijay would visit the coastal town of Nagapattinam on February 22 to lead a protest demonstration to condemn the mid-sea killings of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.

Shankar wrapped up a wedding scene in the textile city in Kovai, where Ileana will be kidnapped by two baddies. Though the wedding scene is too regular for us but directed by Shankar it will surely carry some added essence. Sathyaraj is playing the role of Ileana’s father and Jiiva, Srikanth were also present in this schedule.
On the grounds of security reasons Shankar maintained a through check on everyone present in the shoot so as to prevent any unforeseen leakage of the scenes on web. Vijay will be joining Nanban camp by end of February for his part of action.

Vijay’s Kaavalan directed by Siddique is a huge success despite all the initial hiccups and the star once again proved that he can romance, create a laugh riot and emote with élan.

In an interview recently, Siddique said that he is very happy with the response Kaavalan has garnered and that he is going to remake it in Telugu too. It is noteworthy that Kaavalan itself is a remake of Siddique’s Malayalam film Bodyguard and it is being remade in Hindi too.

The director says that the biggest challenge about remaking a film in different languages is to make it suit to the mentality of the audience and also work on the different budgets that each industry offers. But he also says that there is scope for making the film better and can rectify the mistakes that have been made previously. Justifying this statement, Siddique says, “People who watched the Malayalam and the Tamil version tell me that the Tamil one is better.” He added that Vijay was going through a rough patch not because of lack of talent but because he did not get good roles to play.

Veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam, sources say, has decided to cast Vijay, Vishal and Vikram in his next film. The director is getting the script ready for his next film and is penning it down with these three stars in mind.

Mani Ratnam is one of the few directors who cast multi-heroes in his films and tasted success in films like Agni Natchathiram, which had Karthik and Prabhu; Iruvar, which saw the coming together of two legends Mohanlal and Prakash Raj and Thalapathy which had two superstars Rajinikanth and Mammootty.

Director creates a role for Ilayathalapathy

Vijay father and director SA Chandrasekar has created a role for Vijay in his forthcoming film Sattapadi Kuttram, a remake of his earlier hit Sattam Oru Iruttarai.

SAC is directing this film, the shooting of which is progressing at breakneck speed. Sattapadi Kuttram stars Sathyaraj and Seeman in important roles.

And now we are told that the director has created a very meaty character in the film so that his son Vijay gets to essay that role.

This is not the first time that Vijay is playing a guest role in his father’s flick. He has done so in the past in films like Sukiran.

Who plays what in 3 Idiots remake?

Everyone is eager to know about who plays what role in the Tamil remake of 3 Idiots which has been named 'Nanban'. According to sources, Vijay will play the main lead, which, of course, goes without saying. Jiiva will essay the role of Sharman Joshi and is super excited about it. The role played by Madhavan will be done by Srikanth.

The powerful role of Boman Irani has gone to Sathyaraj while Sathyan will be stepping into Omi Vaidhya’s shoes. Director-actor SJ Suryah will make a cameo in Nanban and play Javed Jefri’s character. Ileana is the leading lady and Anuya play her sister in the film.

The box office status remains the same as ‘Kaavalan’ has gone ahead spinning more collections in box office when compared to the first week followed by ‘Aadukalam’ and ‘Siruthai. It looks like in spite of couple of movies ‘Pathinaaru’ and ‘Vaada Poda’ hitting screens, it wouldn’t have much effects as loads of releases are awaited from forthcoming weeks that includes Mysskin’s ‘Yuddham Sei’ and ‘Thoonga Nagaram’.
1. Kaavalan: Vijay proves to be a black horse again as he makes a strong comeback with his much suitable role of a soft romantic character. The film had a passable opening during first weekend as it released a day later after Pongal and lack of publicities. But, Vijay’s initiatives to promote the movie have drawn more family audiences to the theatres.
2. Aadukalam: The film had a grand reception during opening week due to advance booking plans, but the collections have gradually gone down as family audiences don’t prefer for this film. But the vigorous promotions are keeping the film at good status during weekend and holidays. Vetrimaaran deserves special mention for handling an unique theme on ‘Rooster-Fights’.
3. Siruthai: Remake of ‘Vikramakudu’ is doing mediocre business, but isn’t as best as Karthi’s previous movies. Critics have claimed this film to be a masala potboiler while it has worked some wonders in ‘C’ centres. Karthi has to choose some good scripts rather than trying to get down proving himself as a commercially successful actor.

4. Manmadhan Ambu: Kamal Haasan’s turgidness over scripts and presentation makes it too hard for the ‘B’ and ‘C’ centres to perceive them accordingly. ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ is one such flick that has Kamal Haasan in a confused state of mind as he tries savoring to the tastes of both multiplex and single screen audiences. Udhayanidhi Stalin’s promotional campaigns haven’t worked wonders for him.

5. Easan: Sasikumar’s directorial comes over the charts as the Pongal release ‘Ilaignan’ has become a blatant box office disaster. Hats off to Sasikumar for coming up with an engrossing script and a newfangled screenplay.

6. Mynaa: The film is being re-released in few theatres and yet is witnessing the same results as the cohorts who missed the film are having glimpse over it again.

7. Ilaignan: Outdated script is the major constraint for this film whereas Kalaingar Karunanidhi’s dialogues require special mention. Pa. Vijay really needs a crash course in acting as he is unable to emote furiously even to a single shot while taking on the baddies and uttering powerful dialogues.

Rests of the three positions are unfilled as there aren’t any new movies while the erstwhile releases are replaced by Pongal movies.
