If you’re a first time mom and you’re trying to figure out how to squeeze in a tight budget for your baby, you might want to save a few bucks for simple but useful stuff. Instead of buying those cute expensive bibs, why not try to innovate. Actually, you can use your good old daddy hankie as a substitute to a bandanna bib. Just make sure it is thoroughly clean. Here’s how:

1. Lay the old hankie flat

2. Fold it at the opposite corners making a big triangle

3. Fold it once or twice from the triangle’s base depending on the size of the bandanna you desire to make

4. Let the two end tails of the triangle base meet and try it on your baby. Use a simple knot on your baby’s nape allowing a snug fit.

There you go, a nicely fitted bandanna for baby for free! You may also try other designs that would look good with your baby’s outfit.

Placenta Previa and Bed Rest

It's been a while since I posted on this blog. Now I am married and God openned my womb after my miscarriage last January 2015. Currently, we are expecting our first child this summer of 2016. On my 6th month, I was diagnosed to be having placenta previa. In layman's explanation, it is a condition wherein the placenta blocks, either partially or completely, the birth canal. A low lying placenta may also be considered placenta previa.

Pregnant women who have this condition should be cautious of having high risk of having painless bleeding. Some do not bleed at all until they reach their full term of pregnancy, but some have been having repeated bouts of mild to severe bleeding, spending time in the hospital. For others, the bleeding becomes so uncontrolled that the doctors decide to take out the baby through ceasarean delivery and the baby is placed under neonatal intensive care until they achieve their full development.

As for my case, I had my first bleed during my 31st week. I experienced painless spontaneous severe bleeding, about a quarter or half a dipper in volume. It was so scary and we did not see it coming. When I was diagnosed with the condition, I was still so active. I do highway provincial driving using manual transmission on high speeds. I was keeping a six-day work schedule, handling lots of dental patients the whole day. After my first bleed, I have to let go of my two jobs. I was placed on complete bed rest, refraining from sitting or walking. I do my hygiene issues on the commode beside my bed. My due date was shortened from being 40 weeks to 36/37weeks early full term on ceasarean delivery.

BEING ON BEDREST

I would admit, just a month of staying on bed has become frustrating and depressing at times. Being not able to do your routine and responsibilities even if you are actually strong is really tough. But for the sake of my little one and my family, I choose to sacrifice. I am blessed to have a very supportive husband, who chose not to work outside and take care of me personally. He does all the household chores. He cooks and feeds me. He carries me up and bathes me quickly on his own. He cleans all my gruesome wastes. He does the laundry alongside his part-time seasonal online tutorial job. He is very hands-on. Just to get by, the situation incurred hundred thousands of bank debts that we are paying up to this date. Thank God also for family, friends and relatives who extend their help all the way from the city to the province where we are staying now.

There are women whose pregnancies are really an everest-climb. I feel for them. Just hearing stories of being on bedrest is one thing but it is another thing to be in it. I give my highest respect to mothers who have gone through all these just for the sake of their little ones.

Removable Dentures

A removable prosthesis intends to replace one or several missing teeth. Depending upon a dentist’s assessment, it may be fabricated with different materials such as acrylic, combination of metal and acrylic, and flexible thermoplastics. A conventional prosthesis consists of a metal framework, an acrylic base and artificial teeth. The metal most commonly used for the framework is a chrome cobalt alloy. The denture is held in place directly by clasps and supported by rests and oral tissues. It must be well designed to protect the remaining tooth structures. Improperly designed and poorly fitted dentures could damage the supporting teeth and other tissues.

The removable denture is indicated for partially edentulous patients who have significant bone loss especially at the front since the flange of the prosthesis provides enough bulk for lip support. It offers excellent cleansability since it can be removed from the mouth for regular cleaning. Plaque removal is necessary to prevent tooth decay and gum problems. The dentist recommends removal of the dentures at night before sleeping to allow the gums to rest. The denture also aids in chewing through proper selection and set-up of the artificial teeth. Filling up the edentulous spaces does not only offer mechanical advantage – it also facilitates proper speech and improves a person’s appearance, giving one a confident smile. Moreover, it prevents TMJ problems since it maintains a healthy relationship between the upper and lower jaws. Restoration of centric occlusion helps maintain the jaw to its centric relation. Moreover, a removable denture prevents drifting, tilting and supraeruption of teeth to edentulous portions of the jaw by filling up the spaces with artificial teeth.

Modifications to the denture could be done by the dentist depending upon the needs of the patient. After careful diagnosis and treatment planning for prosthetic rehabilitation through a partial denture, it is the dentist’s goal to restore proper function of the oral cavity and esthetic improvement of the patient’s smile.

Forgiveness

In a conversation, I have shared to a friend that what could release her from her bitterness is forgiveness. She said that she couldn't do it. I told her, a person can only forgive if he/she has experienced real forgiveness in her life.

An insight came to me after today's Sunday service. A person has to realize that he has sinned in order to pave way for repentance, forgiveness and genuine freedom from guilt. When we say that it is thru Jesus Christ's death on the cross that our sins has been forgiven, it doesn't mean that our sins were just pardoned without paying the cost. What happened was Jesus received the wages of our sins [which is death] on our behalf. He has become the sacrifice for our sins - the blameless lamb of God. He did it because of love. For God so loved that world that He gave his only Son [Jesus] that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have an everlasting life. Sounds familiar? That's John 3:16. The salvation we would receive from accepting Jesus as our Lord and personal Savior is not cheap. The life of Jesus was given for the forgiveness of our sins. The Lord has already made the first step. Will you accept His forgiveness?

I remembered the word "oath" being misspelled as "oat" in a letter so carefully typewritten almost 6-7months ago (even though there were typographical errors). I have everything documented (reaching upto 16 pages and counting). I learned a lot and experienced pain in the process. Oh well, the poem says a lot. I hope that this remains true after 1... 2... 3... 4... years (Oh please... please... please... please, how I long cut this period short but my free will chose Obedience in Faith).

MY CONCLUSION: This poem reminds me of someone.

QUESTIONS

“Bakit pa kita nakilala?” Is this a rebellious question or just an outpouring of one’s yearning to be with a beloved who will be distant for an indefinite time? In as much as I want you to be always near me, I know I can’t allow it since the timing is not right. Shall I sit in my room and ponder on our memories which we now call our past or shall I go out and work while my mind wallows on the future of us together, serving the Lord? These should not even be my options. If I consume myself with either the past or future, what about our present being apart from each other?

I thank the Lord for knowing you. I had almost been close to one of the answers to my prayers. But if you were a blessing, why was there sorrow along with the “blessing”? The problem is not in us but around us and our individual status. How I long to have this ‘time to refrain’ be made short. I have no assurance of what will happen in our lives in the future. All I have is faith.

Soon, or maybe months after, the yearning will subside but I will not erase the memory of you in me. I will take care of you in my prayers. What the Lord started, He will finish. If I am God’s gift to you, let Him unwrap me for you in the right time. If it is me, it will be me. If it is you, I will choose you. As for now, our sorrow may last for a night but joy comes in the morning.

As John Piper said, “God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him.” My freewill has chosen obedience to the One who is sovereign and greater than us. I cannot mold you to be the man that I want you to be. Rest assured that the Lord knows my in-the-long-run desires – those which lie deep in my heart. I have been praying anonymously for my future beloved. If it is you who has been receiving the answers to my prayers, so be it.

As for now, I may be declaring in a gist that I really miss you so much. This is not farewell but ‘see you soon.’

*** ******* is my former roommate and schoolmate in UP Manila when she was still in her freshman years and I am on my 6^th year in Dentistry. She now studies in UP Diliman. She sent a text message to me dated February 22, 2010 (yesterday) at 11:23pm which really reminded me to go on and refocus my mind on higher things. The following is her exact message:

“Ate Ianne, thank you for serving as God’s instrument for me to have a relationship with him. My walk with Him has changed me in ways, which seemed unfathomable before. Again, thank you. God bless”

I wish I could share this account online as soon as now but I’d rather delay for the sake of humility. I remember Mary’s response to the great marvel that had unfolded before her eyes regarding Jesus. I would like to make the same reaction as hers. It is in Luke 2:19 (NLT): “but Mary kept all these things I her heart and thought about them often.”

He is like papa. He is always proud of me. My face is in his wallet and he’s got 4 other pictures of me. He chose to be faithful to me even without giving him my commitment. He stands to it even at the midst of other women surrounding him. He admires me and helps me boost my confidence. He loves me but his affection is not selfish because he has set me free even if I didn’t ask for it. He gives me material things and never lets me go hungry. But above all, he gave me respect, love and treated me like a princess. He left physically but my face is in his heart. He is willing to invest in me. He talked to my leader to clear up his intentions towards me. He couldn’t face my mom because I told him it is not yet time. He supports me in prayer and did it sometimes in tears. In his human love, I saw 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

May You open our blind eyes and callous hearts to the truth of where we might be heading if we go on by ourselves alone – that is being in the life without You. Romans 14:23 But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.

The scripture speaks for itself. When you have a conviction and you do not do it and went to the opposite way, you are sinning. These doubts come because of your conviction that one is right and the other is a wrong choice. It is not your own work but the Holy Spirit working in you. If you go against and do otherwise, you are committing the sin of disobedience to what the Lord is telling/ teaching/ compelling you to do. See your inner thoughts. Allow the Lord examine you. Open your heart to Him.

Why the passion?

[When I look at the heart of the person within me, I see impurities… imperfections. For all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). I am now changed. God has transformed me. People think I try to be perfect. Nah… that’s useless. I only strive for excellence. This is the excellence that I know. Let’s put it this way, I just have all the time this vacation to finish the work before the deadlines. Let’s rid off all the “I’s” and focus on Him.]

Having the burden to pass the passion to the next generation, the idea of reviving YouthLink just flashed like lightning.

Deuteronomy 4:9 “But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.”

One of our mentors shared, “If you are the Joshua generation beware! After your generation, who’ll be next?” I never knew how important YouthLink is in the God’s Kingdom. What I am sure of is that it is the Lord Himself who started this good work. We are His followers who obey His commands. And upon this immediate call, I believe, spiritual growth will just follow only if we are rightly related with the Lord Jesus Christ. I pray that everyone who is called in their own ministries would really seek and receive God’s word which will specifically confirm their rightful calling and place in this generation. So that when troubles come, each would stand firm on His promises and would never be moved by the discouragement of the enemy but be more fully assured and encouraged that the Lord is with them in all situations.

I have this thing in my heart (not a medical problem) that keeps on giving me unrest. I know I have to do something... yung parang pag di mo magawa di ka talga matahimik. I accidentally left my flash disk at home so I was not able to do all the tasks I'm supposed to do over the net at this hour. I don't know what's this in my heart. I asked the Lord last night if He wants me to pray for someone. I also prayed about some hidden sins that could be in my heart but this unrest still finds its way through me. God I trust You.

The word of God is 100 percent true. But aside from the Bible, there are lots of literary works that we also read to equip us in different aspects of our spiritual lives. Rev. Robert A. French, author of Basic Discipleship, said that if there is a conflict between what the Bible says and what the other source says, trust the Bible and not the other source. Nowadays there are so many inspirational books sold in the stores. How do we distinguish between real Christianity and its contrary? 1 Thessalonians 5:21 says that we should test everything. See if they are from God and telling the truth accurately. Compare what they say to what the Bible says.* Make sure that the literature does not contradict the grace of salvation that comes only through faith in Jesus Christ, not from anyone or anything, even good works.

2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

Colossians 2:8 (NIV) See to it that no-one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
