Happy Fall!

Today I got my first professional hair cut! Yup, I sat in a chair decked out as a VW Bug and played with toy cars while a woman quickly snipped away before I got too upset about it. So I thought I'd share the results.

But, of course, let's start with a before shot. This is a good one of my head (I was making tortillas with my dad yesterday):

I am definitely not a baby any more! Here's to growing up!

Since some of you still want to know what I am up to, I feel obliged to say hello now and again.
So, I must say, July is a really nice month here in the Pacific Northwest. Having just completed my first year of life, I wasn't sure whether the sun liked us in Seattle. Perhaps, I thought, we did something to tick her off awhile back and she was just holding a grudge? But no, she has shown big and bright nearly all month long and it is wonderful!

It has allowed me to explore several of the various wading pools scattered around the city and a few of the beaches along Lake Washington and the Puget Sound:

Of course, I still make time to visit with friends. This is Cooper and I enjoying a leisurely lunch.

There are many festivals and street fairs to take part in. Here I am showing Miss Hispanic Seafair a good time:

But, I truly enjoy most being in a quiet park with a ball and my cap on those lazy summer afternoons. I hope you are having just as good a summer wherever you are as I am here :)

Hi folks!

Yes, I said no more posts. But hey, the things I am about to show and tell you are pretty exciting...

number 1

I got my second haircut of my life (yes, I am hairy so my bangs were already cut awhile back). I do actually have ears, my parents discovered after my mother sat me down on the bathroom counter and snipped away.

It was actually sunny in Seattle today and I wore this rad (yes, I'm bringing rad back, not that I knew where it went or that it went anywhere in the first place 'cuz I am only 1 you know) shorts onesie.

and last, but certainly not least:

I have a sweater onesie with this abstract dinosaur riding a Segway kind of thing on it (and since I live in Seattle I got to wear it in June last week!)

You may have noticed that I have slowed down on the posts. With my first year of life coming to a close, I have been thinking a bit. While I've enjoyed sharing my life with you here electronically, I realize that I have a lot more actual living to do before I am ready to sit at a computer and k'vetsh about it.

So, this will be my last post for who knows how long. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed reading about my adventures. And if you are ever feeling like you may be coming down with a case of Zorrito-withdrawl...Don't Fret!! You can always come see me in person!

the children's museum

Today my parents took me to the Children's Museum here in Seattle. I have been to a few other museums so I thought I knew what to expect. But I was surprised to not find any statues of children, no children from long ago stuffed behind glass, not even an oil painting of children frolicking in the grass like they used to in the old days. There was none of that. Instead I found stuff to crawl on, things to pick up and play with, and lots of contemporary kids running about.

Although it wasn't what I had in mind, I enjoyed myself nevertheless. The first thing we saw was this man drumming. I got into, actually right in the middle of it. I just sat there and took it in, bobbing my head to the rhythm.

I got to put on a firefighter's helmet and jacket (yes, I have a firetruck at home but no one told me there was an outfit that went with it).

I stopped into a mini grocery store and tried some of their plastic fruit...kind of waxy and definitely not organic!

And on our way home we strolled around the large fountain at the Seattle Center. I need to get waterproof shoes before I try my hand at walking here.

So, how are you doing with your new year's resolutions? One of mine was to begin crawling and I am proud to say that I have mastered that. I'm so over crawling that I have begun to attempt to walk on two legs instead of all fours. I can't even believe it myself when I get somewhere without falling on my but, but I'm trying.

Stuck in the Snow

Let me tell you about the adventure I went on yesterday! It started out as a beautiful spring day here in the Northwest! The sun was out, the sky was blue and the mountains were all in view. I got an early 6 am start to my day. I enjoyed throwing my breakfast around and climbing onto the table (my parents really need to start strapping me in to that chair). After, I took a nice, long nap and then we left. A pit stop at what my dad likes to call a little piece of heaven (the flagship REI store) to get a parking permit and then we were on the road East on I-90 to Snoqualmie Pass. It is kinda cool that while it rains and rains and rains in Seattle, just an hour away, it comes down as lots and lots and LOTS of Snow. Anyway, we got to our destination and met up with another family that likes to strap large things to their feet, babies on their backs, and then try to walk uphill for hours. Luckily they don't make snowshoes in my size plus I can't walk so that pretty much determines that I get the hard job of overseeing the action from behind my father's head, like this:

The way up went pretty smoothly except for the huge blast we heard. Was it thunder, a crash on the highway, or maybe an avalanche? When we got to a place to stop we had a perfect view of the snowy mountains, nearby ski slopes, and the highway. The highway looked more like a parking lot though. And it was, for several hours the cars didn't move an inch as the Department of Transportation did avalanche-control work. That means that they set off their own avalanches to avoid natural ones from taking place on top of cars. We didn't think that was so bad. We were still up high and could enjoy the hike down and hopefully the cars would start moving by then.

When we got down, it was still a parking lot on I-90, not this kind, but all the cars and semi's were still waiting. Overall, it took about 3 hours for them to finish! We felt happy that we weren't stuck on a highway, just at a snow-park, close to a bathroom and room to play and wait. But wait, my dad made things much more exciting! He locked the keys in our car! So now traffic was at a standstill and we couldn't even get in our car to keep warm! Thankfully, our friends from the baby hiking group we are in shared their car, diapers and snacks with us. Thank you for waiting with us, Kim, Eric and Cora! So, traffic began moving but now we were stuck. And I am supposed to ride in a car seat. So when said carseat is locked in said car, things get a little tricky.
Should we break a window, pay $150 to a tow-truck operator to open it more gracefully, or get abuela's help?

We opted for grandma. She came out and I carefully road in the back seat to her house, half an hour west on I-90. Then my parents left me there and drove further west (30 minutes) to Seattle to get the other key and then they drove all the way back to the car, then they got me and then went home. This made for a long, long day. I let them sleep until quarter of 8 today for all their hard work!

Thank you abuela and tia Ivonne for taking care of me so nicely while my parents drove all around for hours.

OK, all you babies out there, how many of you have your own phone line? That's right, I am on the cutting edge of technology and...Ouch! it's sharp! You can now use the button at the bottom right-hand side of my blog to call me and leave me messages. Don't expect to hear from me for a few years as I can't even get a fork in my mouth (so I am a little ways away from deliberately pressing 10 digits consecutively, in the right order).

Aside from that, I have been playing with my firetruck and the safety gate at the top of our stairs. You can see these newly uploaded videos on You Tube (blogger's tool is not working for me right now nor is its photo uploading tool so this will have to be a photo-less, video-less entry).

Yes, I am definitely the best dressed male. But it is no contest between us guys. We all wear tuxedos so we can be beautiful backdrops for the ladies. Unfortunately my beautiful mother is not in this shot.

Yes, I am teething again. That is the big news of the day. Never mind that some guy on a little island nearby is finally stepping down from power, I'm getting more teeth!!!!!! And it is not fun!

My mother didn't even notice the bulging bump on my upper gum. She just happened to give me some Orajel to see if that would calm me down yesterday. Her thinking was, "If it works, he's teething, if not...oh well, a little numbness won't hurt you". But later that day, my father informed her that there was indeed a tooth trying to pry its way out from under my gums.

And that is what brings me to this question: if tooth becomes teeth in the plural form, why doesn't a toothbrush become teethbrushes when pluralized?

Today was the day that us Washingtonians got to voice our opinion about who should be the Democratic nominee for president. After a leisurely swim in the morning, my dad and I, along with some neighbors who hitched a ride, headed over to our caucus. Now, I had never been to one of these things before so I wasn't sure what to expect. But, basically it was a meeting where folks write down their presidential preference, it is counted up and delegates are alloted based on the percentage of support each candidate has. What did I just say? I didn't know I knew all of those words!

Anyway...this is what it looked like in pictures:

We were in the gym of a local elementary school.

This was our precinct meeting area. This man was trying to convince us to vote for Hillary.

These chairs were not very baby-friendly...

so I just tried to participate from the floor.

All in all it was a great day. My mom and dad and I got to meet more of our neighbors. Obama won the majority of delegates. And my mom ended up being a delegate for Senator Barack Obama.

p.s. Obama was in Seattle yesterday where he spoke at our basketball arena. It was packed to capacity within 15 minutes of the doors being opened, with 17,072 Obamaites. We were outside with another 5,000 people listening in the rain. He actually stopped outside first and said a few words to us via a megaphone! The energy was awesome!

Just wanted to say hello to all on Super Tuesday! Of course, "super" refers to the many states expressing their choice for Democratic and Republican presidential nominees today. But, let me remind you, if you are not keeping track, it is also a super Tuesday because today is my 9 month birthday! Someday I hope to celebrate my birthday with dancing as good as this guy. Until then, I'll settle for crawling.

odds and ends

I've been trying to put together a post about this, and then I change my mind and try that... and then before you know it, another day has passed and I still haven't said a word to my adoring fans. So I will bluster on through writer's block during a writer's strike and who knows....this could be the best post yet! I'm just going to string together random thoughts and throw in a photo here and there.

Last week I shared my ability to stand myself up, but I left out the bad part...I couldn't get down once I pulled myself up. I took a few hard falls but I'm very excited to report that I am learning to fall, "but I ain't got wings so coming down is the hardest thing" (hey Tom Petty's song makes sense now). I either bend my knees and kneel down gently, begin to sit and my bottom catches me, or, when I've forgotten that I need to hold on with at least one hand, I tense my shoulders and neck muscles and usually catch my head before it whacks the floor. But let's move on to less painful topics.

This week I had some time to do some cleaning . I filed all the household paperwork.

And cleaned out some of the kitchen cabinets. I can never find what I am looking for in there.

And I am working on my slight of hand with the Shell Game. So if I ever go to New York, I can make a buck or two.

He is older than me so I mostly watch him as he runs circles around me.

This is Victor. We are neighbors so our moms make us hang out a lot. But it's o.k. 'cuz he's a cool guy.

And this is Ryan. He is a riot. He loves to screech, and like me, he appreciates the fine sound of a plastic bowl scraped against tile.

As you may have noticed, I haven't gotten around to saying hello to you here for awhile. That's because I'm MOBILE! That's right. I don't have time to be sitting at a desk typing anymore. I can Move, baby! I turned 8 months old on January 5th and decided it was time to crawl. And kneel. And pull myself up to see a whole new level of the world. I never understood why my parents were always up so high but I am beginning to see why. There are a lot of goodies at this new level...books on tables, medicine in cabinets, clothes in drawers. Why have they been hiding all of this stuff from me?

So, I accomplished one of my resolutions and I am working on the others. Soon I'll share some of my adventures with food, but be warned, they are graphic.

holiday highlights

Some highlights from our trip to Colorado:

I got to meet the famous Deefor, a well-known blogging dog. (After I read his blog for the first time I knew that if a dog could blog, so could I!)

And his sidekick, Arrow.

I hung out in the lodge of Copper Mountain with my grandma and grandpa so my parents could go enjoy some snow sports. Here I am with my dad and grandpa Larry at the end of the day. Our hat-styles were in-sync, and we didn't even plan that!

Santa was also wandering around the slopes with one of his reindeer. I got him to stop and take a photo with us. The best part was I didn't even have to get out of my stroller and it was free. I have heard from other kids that sitting on that guys lap can be quite traumatic for some of us. Personally, Santa wasn't the problem, I was more worried that his reindeer might take a bite out of me (so, as you can see, I kept an eye on him).

My grandma Madeleine got me my own fire truck. I love it! Here I am taking a spin on 'er and doing a little fire truck maintenance on the wheel well. Thank you Grandma!

I also got to see my grandpa Joe and meet more of his side of the family.

I went to the Denver Art Museum (DAM, it was fun!). Surprisingly, they had a lot of things for a guy like me to slobber on.

This is an area just for kids to build things with blocks and get to know Carlos the turtle.

On our last day in Denver, I saw my Uncle Justin again. We went to a diner for lunch (well, actually they lunched and I watched from my car seat in my marshmallow suit).

After that we dropped Justin off at work and headed to the airport. Back to Seattle! No snow, just rain. No sun, just daylight. But it's home, and it was good to be back nevertheless.

Hello! We made it back from our trip to Colorado last week and I will soon share with you our adventure. But I wanted to check-in with you as the New Year is upon us and tell you my resolutions. Hopefully, they will inspire you to be all you want to be this year too!

1. Get more food in my mouth rather than around it! This sounds simple enough but somehow much of it escapes me.

2. To grow a mustache and goatee. A friend of my mom's said he hoped this would change his year. Maybe it will help mine too!

3. To Crawl.

4. To ride bareback.
