boom! says rihanna

2012-04-14T00:48:00.001+08:00

Shit bricks, Battleship is friiiigin awesome! It didn't matter

that the cinema we were in last night was worth trash because their projector made the film

jumpy and coarse and all over the place

that it left scene transitions looking like they're from a badly edited indie movie.

My friends even reckoned some parts were cut

- and not by the director.

Not to mention the movie blanked out right smack in the middle when things were getting real good and we were all just

hanging in our seats.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we are still preparing the next roll," or some sort of bull was said by the anti-joke chicken of a voice over. Freakin face palm!

Anyhoot, all the shite was worth it. I really liked that one long shot when their ship sank - brill! Also, Rihanna had knockdown lines that she always seemed to say whenever something cool was about to happen. Oh yeah, it's two-thumbs-up awesome.

sino ba naman kasi ang makakalimot na may poknat ka sa ulo

Nung huli kong pagpapagupit:

Barbero: Anong gupit mo?

Before After

Ako: Oo, kuya. Maiba lang, hehe.
Barbero: OK. May poknat ka ba?
Ako: (blank stare kay Kuya) Ano yung poknat, kuya?
Barbero: Yung, ano, peklat sa ulo. Yung di na tinutubuan ng buhok.
Ako: Ahhh. Wala naman po.
...after 10 mins ng panggugupit...
Barbero: O, bat may poknat ka dito? (sabay hawak sa may likod ng ulo ko)
Ako: Eh? (hinawakan ko din. Dafuq, bat ako may poknat sa ulo???)
.
.
.
Ako: Ah! Tama, kuya, gumulong pala ko nung nagba-bike last year, haha, nakalimutan ko, sorry.
Barbero: (sa isip isip nya siguro, "ay, tanga lang?")

on dying

2012-03-19T16:12:00.000+08:00

It is good to die before one has done anything deserving death.

-Anaxandrides

So my boss's cousin died last Saturday, god rest his soul. Pneumonia caused by meningitis, the doctors said - something that I had to look up because I'm just no good with medical terms. The guy was 22, barely out of college, and from what I gather, was far from sickly. So aside from the whole water in the brain thing, what's got me stunned most was how fast things went down. Feverish for two weeks, coma for the next few days, and dead by Saturday. Where's the fair in that? I mean, how is it that somebody as strapping (I've seen his pictures) as a 22-year-old could end up in a morgue in less than a month without being in a brutal accident of some sort? How scary is it that the same things could happen to anyone that you care about and you won't be able to do something to stop it? They say that the lord giveth and the lord taketh away. How selfish he must then be.

yay for spring, yay for Korra

2012-02-22T18:52:00.002+08:00

The spin-off of one of THE best American cartoon shows EVER, The Last Airbender: The Legend of Korra is anticipated by fans loyal to the epic revolution instigated by the Avatar: The Last Airbender. From a recent scouring, here are what I've found:

From nick.com

With the Hundred Year War long over, benders live harmoniously with non-benders in a bustling steampunk paradise called Republic City. Meanwhile, a bull-headed but incredibly talented 17-year-old Avatar named Korra is growing into her powers in Southern Water country. But how long can the peace really last, and what will happen when Korra escapes to the city and these worlds collide? You'll find out when Korra comes to Nick this Spring, but until then, keep on top of all the The Last Airbender: Legend Of Korra gossip, right here!

Cheers!

Meanwhile, here is the trailer they releases six-what-the-hell?-months ago to tide us over:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmsT63BgFPw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

with some lol comments on the same page:

long ago the nickelodeon channels showed good 90's cartoons in harmony, then everything changed when big time rush, victorious, and the wannabe cartoons attacked. only avatar the last airbender could stop them but when the nickelodeon needed it most, reruns of the show dwindled. time past and we discovered a new avatar named korra and although all we have only seen teaser trailers, we believe that korra can save nickelodeon.

True that! And here are some more clips that promise just how awesome this ride is going to be!

fascinating QR Codes

2011-10-17T13:21:00.001+08:00

According to Wikipedia:

A QR code (Quick Response code) is a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) first designed for the automotive industry. More recently, the system has become popular outside of the industry due to its fast readability and comparatively large storage capacity. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be made up of any kind of data (e.g., binary, alphanumeric, or Kanji symbols

I generated a QR code myself using the one of many on-line generators available today.

I've looked and found probably the best QR Code reader for N8 here:
http://get.beetagg.com

And voila, scan away! :D

Love Bites who?

2011-10-10T13:17:00.000+08:00

"We live in a Twitter world. You have to be able to hook someone in 140 characters or less." - Cassie, played by Krysten Ritter, who btw pops everywhere as a supporting character, in Love Bites, which btw I think is a total fail of a series (great attempt at the 3-vignette episode format, but otherwise - bleh), from the first episode aptly titled "Firsts", which btw is the only episode I had the patience to watch. Thank you very much.

flipped

2011-09-30T14:28:00.000+08:00

I don't really know why but ten minutes into the movie and I already knew it was based on a book. A novel I've never heard of until today is not at all unusual but me not hearing about a novel as good as this one (and I'm judging solely on the film adaptation's performance) is something of a rarity. The he says-she says storytelling is brilliant. The characters are alive and dynamic and we see them course through changes in two very different first-person point of views. With this, we are reminded that we may look at the same thing at the same time, but what you perceive may not always be the same as what another does. Respect would probably be the strongest lesson the film offers. But if you're not out to look for lessons, Flipped's romantic lead would probably be enough to satisfy - charming, good-looking, and very talented. That Callan McAuliffe sure is going places.

Flipped - latest movie I saw that did not disappoint. I recommend it.

what happens if you get scared half to death twice?

2011-07-29T13:17:00.003+08:00

boom. you do the math.

So, yeah, I have been posting random quips over at google+ since I've had an account (and no, I'm not part of the "first" batch, whatever that means). None of them are original, of course, since it has been a habit of mine to copy down a quip from wherever I come across one on the net that merited being, well, copied down. Wily, yes? One memorable quote I stumbled upon is: To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research. This line spoke SO MUCH truth that I decided to live by it. Starting with sharing it in google+; the fact that it was authorless when I found it online did not stop me at all. Somebody in the comments section asked where I get these one-liners (cause apparently these rouse insecurity in them haha), and I was about to write a real snappy comeback but somebody neat me to it when they said "Steven Wright". I was like, Steven who? Good thing google is my cousin, and he introduced me to who Steven Wright just is -- the owner of the mouth where words loved most by the wittiest of us come out. So, yeah. Thanks Steven Wright for being you. (And thanks google for being related to me, I'll never disown you.)

to you who say people who keep posting nonsense on social networking sites should just keep their nonsense to themselves, there's actually a quick and no-nonsense solution to keep from being annoyed senseless by all the nonsense: STOP JOINING NETWORKING SITES. otherwise, you can go off yourselves. please.

Yep, The Hunger Games movie. There's Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique in X-Men First Class), Josh Hutcherson and what's-his-face Miley Cyrus's ex as leads. March 23, 2012. I actually am looking forward to this one, especially since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was such a letdown - really, that 19 years later bit was funny in all the wrong ways. Anyway, Lionsgate also released a motion poster --well, that's new; probably the term for we don't have any clips to make a trailer yet but since you can't wait; hmmm, i should submit that to urbandictionary.com. It's awesome graphically but it really doesn't give you anything more about the movie, blergh. Watch it here.
