How to: Speed up your computer's boot time

One of the questions I am often asked is how to speed up the boot time(time Windows takes to load or boot).

There are a variety of factors (both hardware and software) involved in lowering the amount of time it takes for Windows to load.

Here are some tweaks that will make your computer boot a little faster:

1) Instead of Hard Disk for Operating System, Use Solid State Drive (SSD)

What is SSD ?

2) Add or upgrade RAM. RAM is pretty cheap these days, so if you're running low, there's no reason not to stock up and make your computer run a little smoother.

3) Keep antivirus up to date. This is more of a preventative measure than an actual boot-speeding tip, but if you ever do get malware, it's sure to slow your computer's boot time.

You already know, what antivirus is :)

4) Remove unnecessary fonts.Windows has loaded fonts at startup and slowed down the boot time. This is less of a problem than it used to be, but it can still slow you down a bit. Windows 7 loads over 200 fonts at startup; even more if you've installed Microsoft Office.

5) Disable Unused Hardware.Your computer loads a lot of drivers when it first starts up, some of which you might not even use. Head into the Device Manager from the Start Menu's search box, and look for anything you aren't using

How to: Solve broadband frequent disconnection problem

If you are facing problem of frequent disconnection (like Lan light & ADSL light goes off......etc)

Before calling broadband office, must try following:

1) Check your Ethernet cable (Lan Cable) & Splitter.
2) Does it give a power restart ? If yes, check the power adapter of your modem.

3) Make sure no lines come before splitter. Check this diagram4) Bypass the splitter, connect line directly to the modem and check.
5) If nothing works, reset the modem and configure it again.

Sometimes you have to re-install Universal Theme Patcher again.

How to install

1. Install Universal Theme Patcher, re-patch again if you updated to SP1.
2. Copy everything in themes folderinto C:\Windows\Resources\Themes
3. Restart Windows & then select this theme in Personalize Menu
4. Use "Windows 7 Navigation Buttons Customizer" to change BMPs for explorerframe.dll

--> Go to (c:\windows\stystem32)
--> Take ownership of authui.dll
--> Replace it with authui.dll which you have just downloaded and paste it.
--> You will be notified that there is already the same file in that folder, click move but keep
both files.
--> Rename authui.dll to authuireal.dll
& then rename the authui(2).dll to authui.dll

Stephen L Rose, Sr community manager, Windows IT Pro Client, revealed that all that users needed to do was to fill out a short survey. The Redmond company has already put up the IT Pro Internet Habits – IT Pro Internet Browsing Survey, which can be accessed through this link. As the label of the survey indicates, the software giant aims to receive feedback on the browsing habits of respondents.

After answering the seven simple questions, users will be granted a chance to win a free Ultimate SKU of Windows 7 and a T-shirt to go along with it. Microsoft has not indicated any sort of participation limitations at this point in time. Moreover, users who want to take the survey will need to fill in their email address and their country of residence, suggesting that the initiative is valid worldwide.

Essentially the survey is designed to provide Microsoft with an insight on the number of computers participants use, their preferred browser, as well on how they manage anonymous Internet browsing, and the deletion of cache and history data.

Microsoft is gearing up to make Windows 7 available to the public on October 22, 2009. The Redmond company confirmed the general availability deadline officially, and indicated that Windows 7, just as Windows Vista, would be launched globally. Ahead of GA, the software giant is preparing to wrap up the next iteration of the Windows client come next month. Windows 7 will be released to manufacturing in the second half of July 2009. However, Microsoft has already started planning details of the Windows 7 launch with its partners, both from the retail and the OEM channels.
