Summer Lovin

It may not be summer yet but it sure felt like it yesterday. It was in the 90's...so hot. We've had a really rainy March and April so it's a nice change. Nothing says summer more than a Maxi dress...yesterday was a perfect day for it. I enjoyed the warm weather brunching and catching up with old friends at Burlingame. Then dinner and drinks with the family at SJ Eats. They had a line of Gourmet Food Trucks which was fun and so good.

Spring Break

For the first time in a long time, I actually took a "Break" during Spring Break last week. I took the whole week off to visit family in the East Coast. Although we only went to Washington DC and Philadelphia, it felt like a world wind tour. We check in and check out 4 times in different hotels all in 1 week. It was hectic but it was fun. It's always fun vacationing with Family. I can't wait for the next one. I've been to DC a few times but this was my first time in Philly. Philly was great...I loved the food, the architecture, the history and the NO sales tax on clothes :) I brought with me my new favorite spring coat from J Crew, The Matinee Trench in modern red. I wore this everywhere. You would be able to spot me from a mile away with this coat on. It's so bright. I love pairing it with another pop color like this bright green check.

It's been a crazy past couple of weeks that I've had to neglect my blog. I transferred to a different group at work and started a brand new hobby so its been consuming all of my free time. But I am still here and I'll do my best to post regularly again. I came across this old photo from a couple of weeks ago and realized I haven't blogged about it. I've been obsessed with Madewell, lately. I am dying to get there new citron jeans and leopard print heels but they are both on back order. But I got these booties recently and I love it. I've been looking for the perfect casual ankle boot and this is it. I love the Madewell girl look. The messy hair...cute dress...dark eyeglasses...booties. She's cool.

2nd Chances

I am running out of places to take photos in my house so hear I am in my kitchen. I must admit, it's a little strange for me.

After a lot of thought, I gave this dress a 2nd chance and was happy with the result. I initially bought this dress in a small and ended up returning it right away since the fit and color was a little weird. I regretted it ever since since I liked the whole idea of the dress but it just didn't work or the first time. When I saw it again in this color and in the xsmall, I was sold. No regrets. It was on 3rd mark down too :)

Our new guitar arrived today. I've always wanted to play musical instrument but never got a chance. This is my second chance. As they say, it's never to late. It looks a little complicated...wish me luck.

Today was another exciting ABC style challenge for me. S is for Sheer. I got to top from Zara during my day after Christmas sale shopping spree but haven't got a chance to wear it until now. Today's ABC Style Challenge theme is R for Romantic Reds and Pinks. The suggestion is to wear the current trend of pink and red together. I was really excited about this one because I've always wanted to do this but I quickly found out this morning that it was not going to happen. It requires a lot more prep time for me to get it right. Since I didn't have the time this morning, I took the safe route and opted for red and white. I will have to brave wearing red with pink on a later date.

I am participating in yet another challenge...this one is called the ABC's of Style Challenge hosted by Kayla from Fashion's Greatest Hits. I didn't wear this today but I'm posting it anyway since I didn't have time to take a photo of my outfit today and this one fits the theme. Today's theme is "Q for is Quickie"....simple, easy, no-brainer outfit. A quick outfit for me is always a dress with a jacket...you don't have to worry about having your top match with your pants or skirt. A dress is always good to go. I love this challenge actually since it helps me figure out what to wear the next day. Tomorrow's theme is R for Romantic. I see a red or pink outfit in my future. I will do my best to keep up with the daily post.

Last Saturday, the place I work hosted a Party at the California Academy of Sciences Museum in San Francisco to celebrate our accomplishments for the year. It was great seeing my co-workers all dressed up. It was a lot of fun. In the photo above, I am in some kind of virtual jungle exhibit were you can step on insects projected on the floor.

As I mentioned on my previous post, I'm branching out and watching other brands thanks to the Google Catalogs App. It is one of the best and most used iPad Apps I've gotten so far. I get a lot of catalogs in the mail and I love looking through them but it is such a waste of paper. They just pile up for recycling every month. Google Catalogs is a green and efficient way to look through your favorite catalog. I say efficient because as you browse you are 2 taps away from purchasing the item you like. I really like it. I use it all the time. You can flip through the pages in full screen. The pages are clear and the colors are crisp. It has tags that provides the price and details of the item and links you directly to the website if you want to purchase the item. You can save pages of the items you like and create collages of items from different catalogs. You can also subscribe and it notifies you of new issues. It already has a lot of my favorite catalogs like Anthropologie, Free People, West Elm and Pottery Barn. I hope they add more like J Crew.

Branching Out

Lately, I started branching out of my usual go to stores like J Crew and Anthropologie to see what I am missing out on. I don't know if it is because my style is changing or I am just getting tired of my usual stores. It is more likely the latter. I've been wanting to check out the Superdry store ever since they opened one nearby. I finally made the effort a few weeks ago and it was worth it. I found this leather jacket at a great price. I love the white trim and how light it is for a leather jacket. It's me but not the usual me. The other stores I've been watching recently is Penguin, All Saints, Lands End Canvas and Rugby...thanks to other Bloggers and the Google Catalogs App for iPad.

This jacket has quickly become one of my favorites. I got it as a gift for Christmas and have been wearing it a lot since. It is so versatile, comfy and warm. The removable faux-shearling lining inside is the best. It is so soft.

It may look like I am wearing 2 sweaters but I am not. This cozy knit just looks like two knit cardigans layered one over the other. It's great because it gives the illusion of layering without being bulky. It's also one of the warmest sweaters I own. This is one of my favs.

I can't believe this Holiday week is over. That went by quick. On my last day before going back to work, I went to the movies again. It's my third trip this week. I watched Mission Impossible and Sherlock Holmes earlier this week....today was Twilight. I've never seen this many movies in one week.

I wore my Pendleton scarf from Anthropologie today. I want to wear this scarf all week. I love it. I've been a huge fan of The Portland Collection. The quality of the wool and the prints are just great. I was so obsessed with this scarf for a long time. I kept stalking it online. When it finally went on sale, it quickly sold out in my local stores and online since they were having an additional 50% off. I was so bummed. I was on a mission to find it. Thanks to customer service and send sales, I was able to locate and buy the black one in New York and the orange one in Pennsylvania. Am I crazy, or what?....but it was really easy. Anthropologie has the best customer service! Now, they are both mine :)

Favorite Pieces of 2011

Happy New Year! I thought I would take a moment to reflect on some of my favorite pieces i've picked up in 2011. It is no surprise that items from J Crew and Anthropologie made the list. These are really the only two places I shop these days. I've selected my top 5 in no particular order.

1. The Perfect Shirt from J Crew. It holds true to its name. I wear this all the time...tucked, untucked, with or without a cardi, with a skirt or pants...so versatile and classic. I bought it in 2 colors. I always feel put together with this on.

2. The Maritime Dress from J Crew. I bought this dress at the tail end of summer. The colors are great and I really liked the zipper details on the side. I didn't get to wear it as often as I wanted but I will this Spring. J Crew brought it back this Spring 2012.

3. The Poncho Sweater from Anthropologie. This is just a cool piece.

4. The Gathering Breeze Dress from Anthropologie. One of my favorite dresses ever. I was lucky enough to get the very last one at an amazing price.

5. The Echoing Argyles Cardigan from Anthropologie on previous post. So cozy. It's a real statement piece. The colors are so vibrant and it is so warm.

Fall Harvest

During this Holiday week, I have family staying over my house from the Washington DC. We went to Sonoma yesterday for some wine tasting. Sonoma was nice. It is much more low key than Napa. The grapes were harvested in the Fall so the rows of vines lacked grapes and leaves. These barrels behind me at KUNDE Winery were probably used during the harvest season. I wore one of my new favorite sweaters from Anthro. I got it during the 50% off sweater sale. I was initially on the fence and wasn't going to get it but I'm glad I did. It's so warm, it has so much character and it can be worn several ways.

I've been wearing it a lot lately.

I got up bright and early this morning for another round of shopping. It started out great. We hit Bloomingdales first and got some really great deals on jackets and shoes. One of the shoppers in Bloomingdales got a jacket for $1.80....yes $1.80. Crazy! I am so glad we got there early. By 1pm, it was crazy. There were so many people around and we started to lose interest. So, we went back home. By 5pm, we got our second wind and went back for more but I came back empty handed. All in all, it was a great day. I found the boots I was looking for at Madewell for $100 cheaper than getting it online so I was a happy. It made the 2 shopping trips worth it.

Baby, It's Cold Outside

Today was a very cold yet productive day. I was out all day determined to get some Christmas shopping done. I had my list on hand and checked off most of the people on the list. It was freezing today so I wore my marbled striped wool sweater which is really warm and comfy. For days like these, I gravitate towards my cozy knit sweaters. It was nice out there, nonetheless. I loved seeing the lights outside people's homes and in the streets. It's really starting to feel like Christmas :)

It's holiday party season time. This year, my husband's company party was held at the USS Hornet which is an old Naval Aircraft carrier turned in to a Museum in Alameda, CA. The theme was Swinging 1940's. It was really a cool venue. They had old retro planes and helicopters inside, great views, tours and music. I felt transported the moment I walked in the ship, "The Singing Blue Stars" were singing "Bei Mir Bist Du Shein" in period sailor outfits. There were also a lot of guests that were in 1940's style attire...bomber jackets, fedoras, full skirts, etc. It was fun. This outfit was the closest to 1940's inspired I can find at short notice. It's a convertible dress from Anthropologie. The top can be removed and it can just be worn as a skirt.

I got this paisley chiffon top really late in the summer and never got a chance to wear it. I got it on super sale of course, since it cost an arm and a leg normally. No need to wait for summer to come back around for tops like these. I styled it today for Fall with my new favorite pants. These Pilco high-waisted cords are the best. I would wear them everyday if I could. For you Entourage fans out there, Sloan wore this top on the finale episode. She was my favorite character in that show. It was so sad to see it end.

Black Friday

Only for Anthro would I wake up at 5 in the morning for Black Friday. Since Anthro was participating for the first time this year, I had to as well. When I arrived, there was a line outside the store before it opened. It was dark and cold but I knew I will be all worth it. I saw some people running inside when it opened which was the right idea since I missed out on a few things I wanted. It was a little overwhelming. I've never seen so many people at Anthro. All in all, it was a great day. I got some cool stuff at great prices like this plaid cape I am wearing and I met one of my Blogger friends, Sakaya, from Happily Ever Anthro :) She is so cute and friendly. So glad we were able to meet and chat a little.

Road Trip

I am lucky enough to work for a company that gives us the entire Thanksgiving week off with pay. So, my good friend from work and I decided to go on a Road Trip to Disneyland. Here I am in my J Crew outfit in front of the Haunted House. I can't seem to get enough of the check shirt trend. The last time I was in Disneyland, I was 12 years old. Going to Disneyland as an Adult is very different, the place looks smaller, the lines seem longer, rides aren't as scary, but still a lot of fun. After Disneyland, my friend and I went shopping. We drove to the Desert Hills outlets then to Hollywood. Here are some pics.

We stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt which was right next to the Chinese Mann Theater and Kodak Theater. I wore my Maxi dress from Anthropologie which was nice and warm. It was a nice change from the day before since I was freezing at Disneyland.

I had best steak dinner in a really long time at the Public Kitchen Restaurant in our Hotel...very happy...:) Before we left LA, we stopped by the Anthropologie store at the The Grove shopping center and took advantage of the pre-Black Friday deals. Great store...so jealous.
