One word for the Apple iPhone 4S – Enthralling

Well, I am not bothered about it. You may ask why? Here it is:

Yes, the Apple iPhone 4S has the cool design quotient, amazing display, a decent camera and numerous apps. The important factors that disappointed me from the iPhone 4S are the Operating system, screen size, data sync and the cost of the unit.

1) Operating System: Apple uses its proprietary OS – the iOS on all its devices. The iPhone 4S comes with iOS 5 which locks you and doesn’t allow you to customize your phone according to your needs. It’s the age of Open Source OS’s like Android which lets you customize your phone any way you want.

2) Screen Size: Iphone 4S has a 3.5” LCD display with a so called Retina display. Whatever the naming, this display doesn’t even come close to the OLED screens which other phones have in terms of clarity, minute details etc. The 3.5” screen size looks too small for a smartphone. I prefer a typical screen size of 4.3” like the Samsung Galaxy S2 has.
3) Data Sync: Every time you want to copy/sync data from your computer to your iphone 4S and vice versa, you will have to have the iTunes. Whether you want to backup contacts or transfer music/videos or download apps, you need the itunes. You just can’t use your iphone as a plug and play device. There are *ahem* ways to make your iPhone work as a plug and play device, but we won’t go into that detail now.
4) Cost: One of the major concerns for buying an iPhone is the cost. The current price for the 16 GB iPhone 4S is Rs. 44,500 and the 64 GB unit will cost you Rs. 57,500. The prices here are way too high for an average consumer who just wouldn’t buy this phone for unless they want to show it off.

These are the main factors why I wouldn’t fall for buying this phone. Instead, I would like to present you 5 other phones which are much better than the iPhone 4S and wouldn’t cost a bomb.

1) Samsung Galaxy Note:

This is arguably the best Android phone in the market at present. Comes with a massive 5.3” Super AMOLED display which straddles between a smartphone and a tablet, a 1.4 GHz dual core processor to speed up processing of your applications which lets you multi task and an 8 MP camera. It is unwieldy and difficult to use it with one hand. The enormous screen of the Galaxy Note makes the iPhone 4S look diminutive. It also comes with an input device named ‘S-Pen’ which helps you scribble on the screen easily.
Cost: Rs. 32,700/- for the 16 GB unit.

2) Samsung Galaxy S2:

Since its release in June 2011, this phone has been the best Android phone ever. The Galaxy S2 has a 4.3” Super AMOLED display, a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, an 8 MP camera which is the best for mobile photography. This is one of the most complete smartphone ever manufactured. It has a thin body, powerful hardware, brilliant display and a price that wouldn’t make you think of robbing a bank.
Cost: Rs. 29,999/- for the 16 GB unit.

3) HTC Sensation XE:

This one’s for the music enthusiasts. Another Android phone loaded with a 1.5 GHz dual core processor, 4.7” S-LCD screen, 8 MP Dual LED flash. This is also the first phone to be produced after the collaboration between HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre. Thought the iPhone will score over this phone on the audio clarity, it’s the OS, screen size and processor that wins.
Cost: Rs. 32,249/-

4) Nokia Lumia 800:

Nowadays everyone has an iPhone or an android powered handset. If you are the one who wants to stand out of the crowd and be different, Nokia brings you the Lumia 800 powered by Windows Phone 7 OS. Loaded with a 1.4 Ghz single core processor, 8 MP camera, 3.7” AMOLED display screen, this is Nokia’s first Metro styled UI phone with Windows Phone 7 OS. The Metro user interface of WP 7.5 is neat and brings more functionality with live tiles. The app store is still growing for the Window Phone 7 OS market.
Cost: Rs. 23790/-

5) Blackberry Bold 9900:

I wouldn’t suggest this, but most of you might be using this for business purposes. You won’t get as many applications as iPhone or Android has, but its Email, messaging features are really good. This phone also comes with a QWERTY keyboard. This phone is embedded with a 1.2 Ghz processor, a 2.8” LCD display and a 5 MP camera. You won’t be able to customize this phone as you would with iPhone or Android devices.
Cost: Rs. 31,999/-

To sum it all, decide what you will be using your next handset for? Take into consideration all the features you would need ie the operating system, camera, storage space and then take the leap on buying the best smartphone.

You might be looking for some 3rd party softwares or tools to do that work. Instead you can follow these steps to secure them in an easy way.
For this, you will only need to download WinRAR. You just need to have a little knowledge about Command Prompt and have WinRAR installed.

Ok, lets begin…

1. Gather all the files that you wish to hide in a folder anywhere in your PC (Ex: make it in C:\stuff).
2. Now, add those files in a RAR archive (e.g. secret.rar). This file should also be in the same directory (C:\stuff).
3. Now, look for a simple JPEG picture file (e.g. logo.jpg). Copy/Paste that file also in C:\stuff.
4. Now, open Command Prompt (Go to Run and type ‘cmd‘). Make your currnet working directory as C:\stuff.
5. Now type: “COPY /b logo.jpg + secret.rar output.jpg” (without quotes) - Now, logo.jpg is the picture you want to show, secret.rar is the file to be hidden, and output.jpg is the file which contains both.
6. Now, after you have done this, you will see a file output.jpg in C:\stuff. Open it (double-click) and it will show the picture you wanted to show. Now try opening the same file with WinRAR, it will show the hidden files which you want to secure.
That's it and you are done.

How to block a website without any software or firewall

Steps

1] Browse C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
2] Find the file named "HOSTS"
3] Open it in notepad
4] Under "127.0.0.1 localhost" Add 127.0.0.2 siteyouwanttoblock.com , and that site will no longer be accessable. Save the file.
5] Done!

Example: The file entry should look like this

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.2 www.blockedsite.com

- www.blockedsite.com is now unaccessable

For every site after that you want to add, just add "1" to the last number in the internal ip (127.0.0.2) and then the address like before.

ie., it should look like

127.0.0.3 www.orkut.com
127.0.0.4 www.facebook.com
Hence Here is a list of best free word processors available in market for download.

1. Abiword: Without a doubt one of the best freeware word processor available. Abiword can read and edit almost all the coomon documet formats like MS word documents, open office documents, rtf files, txt files etc. Also Abiword is multiplatform it can run on windows, linux, solaris etc giving user the flexibility to run on any operating system. Another major plus point about Abiword is its ligh weight and quick startup , it almost starts in an instant so you are not pestered by annoying splash images at start and can jump into work right away. Give it a try and it will be liked for sure.

2. OpenOffice.org Writer: Probably the best MS word alternative known to most people. It has almost all the features that MS word can offer and a common man can use. Very simple to use and an elegant interface are an added advantage. Only disadvantage i can think of is that it is slightly slow to start with that annoying splash, which will bog down a few potential users. But for users looking for a complete word processing package to replace MS word Openoffice.org Writer is the best choice.

3. Google docs : For all the online lovers word processing cannot get better than this. Although the product is in beta stage it mimics almost all the most used features of MS Word. And with offline functionality of google docs ( with google gears ) it can be used without internet connection which makes it one of the best competetor in word processing market. The biggest plus point for google docs is availaility of documents on the move ( atleast where ever internet is available ). Also google docs can read and import all the common document types. Give google docs a try and you will love it.

4. IBM Lotus Symphony : Relatively unkown in office suite market IBM lotus Symphony is attrating good share of attention these days. This office suite based on openoffice.org includes a writer with very good features and support for all the common document types. The interface is much smoother and betterl organized than openoffice writer.

5. Zoho Writer: Zoho office was one of the first complete online office suites available, and as with all the other online office tools its still in beta stage. But dont let this beta stop you from using it, zoho writer is probably the best online writer available and in my personal opinion beats google docs fair and square. It even supports offline editing just like google docs.

Top Ten Must Have Freewares For A Notebook/ Netbook For Windows XP

Dexpot
One of the best free virtual desktop softwares. Both Features and usability are topnotch. By default it comes with 4 virtual desktops, in netbook where space is a real constraint this is really useful. Download

The KMplayer
Being low on resources netbooks need a very good media player to play 720p videos. I tried windows media player, VLC player and noticed small hitch in both of them when playing 720p videos, but when i tried KMplyer no hitch was noticed. Just make sure that during initial configuration you select 1Ghz as your processor speed for good performance. Also KMplayer plays almost any video you throw at it. Download

Chrome/Firefox
Its very hard to decide which one to use. I will say both are good chrome is best suited for netbooks because of its minimalistic interface thereby increasing the space avaialbe for browsing. Download

Firefox can be configured to do the same using small tweeks like full screen mode, hiding status bar, hiding bookmarks bar. But dude to firefox addons i prefer firefox more than chrome. Download

Avira Antivir
Freeware Antivirus cant get better than this. Just try it and you will know what you have been missing. After trying avast, comodo i finally found this much better. Only drawback is one pestering Ad per startup. Download

Everything
Everything is a must have for any computer with NTFS file system. Instantaneous search is what you get by using this software. Best of all it can be run from a pendrive. Only drawback i can think of is that it cant search in FAT file system. Just use it to believe it, windows default search is ages behind this tool. Download

Free Commander
Since netbooks lack desktop real estate, opening too many windows can be a real hassle, this is where free commander comes to rescue, with ability to open upto four locations at a time, tabbed file manager support. Free commander is the best alternative to standard windows file manager. Download

Teracopy
Speedup, Pause and be in total control of your file copying using teracopy. Teracopy is a worthy replacement to standard windows copy function, with many addons that will make you forget windows copy in a jiffy.The best feature of teracopy is ability to pause and resume copying. Tera copy with free commander is a superb combination that will put windows explorer to shame. Download

Pidgin Having a simgle IM client handle all your accounts is really useful for a netbook as it reduces the resources utilised, there is no better free universal IM cleint for windows than Pidgin.
Another worthy mention here is Digsby. But it is still not as polished as Pidgin. Download

CCleaner
This a free privacy, registry and optimization tool. It is more important for netbooks since there is less ram and processing power in hand and keeping it optimized is always a requirement. Download

Openoffice.org
Last but by no means the least is openoffice.org. The best freeware office suite available, and also it is very light on resources hence the best office suite for netbook. Download

Another superlight weight wordprocessor worthy of mention is Abiword. It is best for users who are looking only for word processing. Download Abiword here

Protecting your Pen Drive (USB)

Nowadays, USB sticks are the most useful and handy storage solution and cheap too. Protecting data needs to be taken care of, hence you need to protect your USB. Below are a few points for the same.

Life of the USB
The only thing(apart from normal wear and tear) the affects life of a usb drive is write cycles.You can read data from a drive any number of times you want but writing a data to it will decrease its life by a bit. Writing includes deleting/defragmenting etc. Thus unless sufficient space is not left in your drive for your new file , DO NOT delete old data from it , just insert more new data.

<iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=geekh08-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B001T99ZTI&fc1=FDF9F9&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=E2E2F3&bc1=000000&bg1=241E1E&f=ifr" style="align:left;padding-top:5px;width:131px;height:245px;padding-right:10px;"align="left" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=geekh08-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B000UZN2ZK&fc1=FDF9F9&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=E2E2F3&bc1=000000&bg1=241E1E&f=ifr" style="align:left;padding-top:5px;width:131px;height:245px;padding-right:10px;"align="left" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"><iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=geekh08-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B000TZ5WRC&fc1=FDF9F9&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=E2E2F3&bc1=000000&bg1=241E1E&f=ifr" style="align:left;padding-top:5px;width:131px;height:245px;padding-right:10px;"align="left" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">

Defragment
Unlike normal hard disks with moving spindles , pen drives do not have slow and fast zones. Data kept anywhere will be read at same speed in a pen drive. Thus NEVER defrag your pen drive as it introduces one more write cycle and reduce life of ur pen drive (by just a little bit). Also usb drives don't have any head that needs to move its position (thus wasting time to read a fragmented file on an a hard drive drive).

Safely remove your external drive
Well speed of Hard disk is much faster than pen drive. Thus when you transfer data to yuor pen drive , to speed things up , some of the data may be "cached" by your Operating System. Thus when the dialogue box showing file transfer to pen drive has vanished , the data may not have been completely written to pen drive. That is why whenever you copy something to your pen drive you must always make sure that you "safely remove the hardware" just to be sure that all data has been transferred.

When you are reading from your pen drive , no such thing occurs , thus the moment the transfer dialog is complete , tou can simply take out ur pen drive without any fear of data corruption.

File system
Default is fat 32. some guys prefer ntfs , linux geeks may try out ext3.
Well these journaled file systems carry no real benefit in terms of data security.
but they have a lot of overhead in terms of journaling , keeping extra record bout files etc.This again introduces useless write cycles which again is bad for life for ur pen drive.

Preferable file systems ----- fat32 / ext2.

Viruses
If you are using Windows OS, always disable autorun of removable drives also keep anti virus updated .

If u must transfer data from a usb and if you already know that the usb is INFECTED, ( and you dont want to let the virus infect your PC) then follow this :

Once you plug in the USB, do not let it Auto Run. Open Windows Explorer, see that you open the USB folder from the Folders pane at the left side. Or just right click on the usb drive and click Open. This will not enable the autorun.inf file, hence avoiding the chances of spreading the virus on the PC.

Remove Short Cut Arrows From Desktop Icons

Remove shortcut arrow from desktop icons

Here's how you can remove those shortcut arrows from your desktop icons in Windows XP.

1. So I was at work and to pass the time
we usually watch movies on the big screen TV. Today we were watching
Ocean's 13, and the word exabyte came up. I was then pondering how
many bytes is that actually?? Then I did a bit of research and came across
this piece by Jamess Huggins I would like to share..its pretty cool

How Much Data Is That?

Whenever we discuss quantities of data, we tend to do it in the abstract. We speak of a kilobyte, or a megabyte or a gigabyte without really knowing what it represents.
The following table shows various quantities of bytes, in each power of ten. Usually, they are shown with multiples of 2 and 5 also. For example, 1 Kilobyte, 2 Kilobytes, 5 Kilobytes.
All the examples are approximate and are rounded. For example, a computer card has 80 columns. If 50 columns contain data on a card, then two cards will be 100 bytes. Also, a 3-1/2 inch diskette can contain 1.4 Megabytes. Showing it as 1 Megabyte reflects both (a) the diskette not typically being filled and (b) rounding. Finally, a CD-ROM can hold more than 500 Megabytes. However, it is listed at that level as "typical" and as the closest match.
Bytes (8 bits)

* 0.1 bytes: A single yes/no decision (actually 0.125 bytes, but I rounded)
* 1 byte: One character
* 2 bytes:
* 5 bytes
* 10 bytes: One word (a word of language, not a computer word)
* 20 bytes:
* 50 bytes:
* 100 bytes: Telegram; two punched computer (Hollerith) cards
* 200 bytes:
* 500 bytes:

Kilobyte
1,024 bytes; 210;
approx. 1,000 or 10 3

* 1 Kilobyte: Joke; (very) short story
* 2 Kilobytes: Typewritten page
* 10 Kilobytes: Page out of an encyclopedia
* 20 Kilobytes:
* 50 Kilobytes: Image of a document page, compressed
* 100 Kilobytes: Photograph, low-resolution
* 200 Kilobytes: Two boxes (4000) punched computer (Hollerith) cards
* 500 Kilobytes: Five boxes, one case (10,000 of punched computer (Hollerith) cards

Megabyte
1,048,576 bytes; 220;
approx 1,000,000 or 10 6

* 1 Megabyte: Small novel; 3-1/2 inch diskette
* 2 Megabytes: Photograph, high resolution
* 5 Megabytes: Complete works of Shakespeare; 30 seconds of broadcast-quality video
* 10 Megabytes: Minute of high-fidelity sound; digital chest X-ray; Box of 3-1/2 inch diskettes
* 20 Megabytes: Two boxes of 3-1/2 inch diskettes
* 50 Megabytes: Digital mammogram
* 100 Megabytes: Yard of books on a shelf; two encyclopedia volumes
* 200 Megabytes: Reel of 9-track tape; IBM 3480 cartridge tape
* 500 Megabytes: CD-ROM

Gigabyte
1,073,741,824 bytes; 230;
approx 1,000,000,000 or 10 9

* 1 Gigabyte: Paper in the bed of a pickup; symphony in high-fidelity sound; broadcast quality movie
* 2 Gigabytes: 20 yards of books on a shelf
* 5 Gigabytes: 8mm Exabyte tale
* 10 Gigabytes:
* 20 Gigabytes: Audio collection of the works of Beethoven; five Exabyte tapes; VHS tape used to store digital data
* 50 Gigabytes: Library floor of books on shelves
* 100 Gigabytes: Library floor of academic journals on shelves; large ID-1 digital tape
* 200 Gigabytes: 50 Exabyte tapes

Terabyte
1,099,511,627,776 or 240;
approx. 1,000,000,000,000 or 10 12

* 1 Terabyte: Automated tape robot; all the X-ray films in a large technological hospital; 50,000 trees made into paper and printed; daily rate of EOS (Earth Orbiting System) data (1998)
* 2 Terabytes: Academic research ligrary
* 10 Terabytes: Printed collection of the U. Devil Mountain Software, which earlier in the week claimed Windows Vista SP1 was no faster than the original, repeated some of the same tests on the release candidate of Windows XP SP3, the service pack recently issued to about 15,000 testers. ?We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Windows XP SP3 delivers a measurable performance boost to this aging desktop OS,? said Craig Barth, Devil Mountain?s chief technology officer, in a post to a company blog Friday. According to the Office performance benchmarks, Windows XP SP3 is also considerably faster than Vista SP1. ?

None of this bodes well for Vista, which is now more than two times slower than the most current builds of its older sibling,? said Barth. Microsoft has at times struggled to wean users from the six-year-old Windows XP and get them to migrate to Vista. During 2007, for example, it made several XP concessions, including adding five years to the support lifespan of the Home edition and extending OEM and retail sales of XP through June 2008, as it recognized that customers wanted to hold on to the older OS. That?s definitely good news for all users like me who decided to stay with not so problematic Windows XP. I guess Vista will become usable too, but it will take few Service Packs?

Source: PC World

tweak:

If you want service pack 3,copy and paste this to txt file save as XPSP3.bat

@echo off
reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WindowsUpdate\XPSP3 /f 2> NUL
reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WindowsUpdate\XPSP3 /v RCPreview /t REG_SZ /d 1c667073-b87f-4f52-a479-98c85711d869 /f
echo XPSP3 registry key has been set. The Nokia Tune was originally named "Grande Valse" on Nokia phones but was changed to "Nokia Tune" around 1998 when it became so well known that people referred to it as the "Nokia Tune."

2) The world's first commercial GSM call was made in 1991 in Helsinki over a Nokia-supplied network, by Prime Minister of Finland Harri Holkeri, using a Nokia phone.

3) Nokia is currently the world's largest digital camera manufacturer, as the sales of its camera-equipped mobile phones have exceeded those of any conventional camera manufacturer.

4) The "Special" tone available to users of Nokia phones when receiving SMS (text messages) is actually Morse code for "SMS". Similarly, the "Ascending" SMS tone is Morse code for "Connecting People," Nokia's slogan. The "Standard" SMS tone is Morse code for "M" (Message).

5) The Nokia corporate font (typeface) is the AgfaMonotype Nokia Sans font, originally designed by Eric Spiekermann. Its mobile phone User's Guides Nokia mostly used the Agfa Rotis Sans font.

6) In Asia, the digit 4 never appears in any Nokia handset model number, because 4 is considered unlucky in many parts of Southeast/East Asia.

7) Nokia was listed as the 20th most admirable company worldwide in Fortune's list of 2006 (1st in network communications, 4th non-US company).

8. Unlike other modern day handsets, Nokia phones do not automatically start the call timer when the call is connected, but start it when the call is initiated. (Except for Series 60 based handsets like the Nokia 6600)

9) Nokia is sometimes called aikon (Nokia backwards) by non-Nokia mobile phone users and by mobile software developers, because "aikon" is used in various SDK software packages, including Nokia's own Symbian S60 SDK.

10) The name of the town of Nokia originated from the river which flowed through the town. The river itself, Nokianvirta, was named after the old Finnish word originally meaning sable, later pine marten. A species of this small, black-furred predatory animal was once found in the region, but it is now extinct.

Test Your Anti Virus If Its Working Or Not

How to... Test if your Anti-Virus has been Compromised

Do you think you might have a virus on your machine? Not sure if your AV is doing its job? Well, here’s a simple test.

First, create a new text file and paste the following code into it:

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}
$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

(trust me, it is harmless, it has been tested by myself)

Then save the text as a .COM file (any name will do, like eicar.com). Either scan the file manually or the auto protect feature of most AV programs should have already caught it. (My Nod 32 caught it immediately upon saving it as a .txt file.)

This test string is a way to test to see if an anti virus program is not working. It was created by the anti-virus industry as a standardized test and should not be taken to be an effective measurement of your anti viruses ability.

The whole point of the EICAR test is to see if an anti-virus program has been infected. If the anti-virus program doesn't detect the string, then there is a chance a virus has done something nasty to it. This was only meant as an internal test for developers though, not for end users. Also, this doesn’t mean that your system is free of viruses. Just that your AV is working to the best of it capabilities.

The only reliable test for how well your anti-virus program is doing, is how well it's doing funnily enough. Is your computer on fire? Have missiles just launched? Are robots trying to tear down your office door? If so you may have a virus, otherwise your AV is doing it's job.

Finding the Serial Key of a Software - Easiest n Quickest Method

Get the serial number you need ! By searching for the product name and 94fbr, you guarantee two things. 1) The pages that are returned are pages dealing specifically with the product you're wanting a serial for. 2) Because 94FBR is part of a serial number, and only part of a serial number, you guarantee that any page being returned is a serial number list page.

See these example searches:

"Photoshop 7" 94FBR
"Age of Mythology" 94FBR
"Nero Burning Rom 5.5" 94FBR

How To Hide a File In an Image File

# You will need the following.. Windows 2000 / XP
# Basic Knowledge of the Command Prompt
# WinRar

1. Gather your image and the files you wish to lodge into it. Here I have a hide.txt which I will hide inside my toshow.jpg.
2. Add the files you want to hide into a new RAR archive. (so hide.rar created newly)
3. Open Command Prompt and go to the folder where your files are located, e.g., 'C:\hidden'.
5. At command prompt type 'copy /b toshow.jpg + hide.rar point.jpg' (without quotes).
(toshow.jpg is the picture I want to show, hide.rar is the file to be hidden, and point.jpg is the file which contains both.
6. Now test the point.jpg by double clicking it, and verifying it still opens.
7. Now try opening that same point.jpg file from menu: file->open of WinRar. It will show the original hidden file hide.txt.

Done !!!!!

Now point.jpg is a simple JPEG for others, but it contains a secret file hide.txt for you !!!!!!!!!

* u can always experiment with different file formats....but do create a backup b4 experimenting
* u can upload the image to imageshack too..

15 Cool FireFox Tricks

1) More screen space. Make your icons small. Go to View - Toolbars -
Customize and check the “Use small icons” box.

2) Smart keywords. If there’s a search you use a lot (let’s say
IMDB.com’s people search), this is an awesome tool that not many
people use. Right-click on the search box, select “Add a Keyword for
this search”, give the keyword a name and an easy-to-type and
easy-to-remember shortcut name (let’s say “actor”) and save it. Now,
when you want to do an actor search, go to Firefox’s address bar, type
“actor” and the name of the actor and press return. Instant search! You
can do this with any search box.

3) Keyboard shortcuts. This is where you become a real Jedi. It just
takes a little while to learn these, but once you do, your browsing will
be super fast. Here are some of the most common (and my personal
favs):

Spacebar (page down)

Shift-Spacebar (page up)

Ctrl+F (find)

Alt-N (find next)

Ctrl+D (bookmark page)

Ctrl+T (new tab)

Ctrl+K (go to search box)

Ctrl+L (go to address bar)

Ctrl+= (increase text size)

Ctrl+- (decrease text size)

Ctrl-W (close tab)

F5 (reload)

Alt-Home (go to home page)

4) Auto-complete. This is another keyboard shortcut, but it’s not
commonly known and very useful. Go to the address bar (Control-L) and
type the name of the site without the “www” or the “.com”. Let’s say
“google”. Then press Control-Enter, and it will automatically fill in the
“www” and the “.com” and take you there - like magic! For .net
addresses, press Shift-Enter, and for .org addresses, press
Control-Shift-Enter.

  5) Tab navigation. Instead of using the mouse to select different tabs
that you have open, use the keyboard. Here are the shortcuts:

  Ctrl+Tab (rotate forward among tabs)

  Ctrl+Shft+Tab (rotate to the previous tab)

  Ctrl+1-9 (choose a number to jump to a specific tab)

6) Mouse shortcuts. Sometimes you’re already using your mouse and
it’s easier to use a mouse shortcut than to go back to the keyboard.
Master these cool ones:

Middle click on link (opens in new tab)

Shift-scroll down (previous page)

Shift-scroll up (next page)

Ctrl-scroll up (decrease text size)

Ctrl-scroll down (increase text size)

Middle click on a tab (closes tab)

7) Delete items from address bar history. Firefox’s ability to
automatically show previous URLs you’ve visited, as you type, in the
address bar’s drop-down history menu is very cool. But sometimes you
just don’t want those URLs to show up (I won’t ask why). Go to the
address bar (Ctrl-L), start typing an address, and the drop-down menu
will appear with the URLs of pages you’ve visited with those letters in
them. Use the down-arrow to go down to an address you want to
delete, and press the Delete key to make it disappear.

User chrome. If you really want to trick out your Firefox, you’ll want to
create a UserChrome.css file and customize your browser. It’s a bit
complicated to get into here.

9) Create a user.js file. Another way to customize Firefox, creating a
user.js file can really speed up your browsing. You’ll need to create a
text file named user.js in your profile folder (see this to find out where
the profile folder is) and see this example user.js file that you can
modify. Created by techlifeweb.com, this example explains some of the
things you can do in its comments.

10) about:config. The true power user’s tool, about.config isn’t
something to mess with if you don’t know what a setting does. You can
get to the main configuration screen by putting about:config in the
browser’s address bar. See Mozillazine’s about:config tips and
screenshots.

11) Add a keyword for a bookmark. Go to your bookmarks much
faster by giving them keywords. Right-click the bookmark and then
select Properties. Put a short keyword in the keyword field, save it, and
now you can type that keyword in the address bar and it will go to that
bookmark.

12) Speed up Firefox. If you have a broadband connection (and most
of us do), you can use pipelining to speed up your page loads. This
allows Firefox to load multiple things on a page at once, instead of one
at a time (by default, it’s optimized for dialup connections). Here’s how:

Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Type “network.http” in the filter field, and change the following settings (double-click on them to change them):

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to a number like 30. This will allow it to make 30 requests at once.

Also, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

13) Limit RAM usage. If Firefox takes up too much memory on your
computer, you can limit the amount of RAM it is allowed to us. Again, go
to about:config, filter “browser.cache” and select
“browser.cache.disk.capacity”. It’s set to 50000, but you can lower it,
depending on how much memory you have. Try 15000 if you have
between 512MB and 1GB ram.

14) Reduce RAM usage further for when Firefox is minimized. This
setting will move Firefox to your hard drive when you minimize it, taking
up much less memory. And there is no noticeable difference in speed
when you restore Firefox, so it’s definitely worth a go. Again, go to
about:config, right-click anywhere and select New-> Boolean. Name it
“config.trim_on_minimize” and set it to TRUE. You have to restart Firefox
for these settings to take effect.

15) Move or remove the close tab button. Do you accidentally click
on the close button of Firefox’s tabs? You can move them or remove
them, again through about:config. Edit the preference for
“browser.tabs.closeButtons”. Here are the meanings of each value:

     0: Display a close button on the active tab only

     1. Default) Display close buttons on all tabs

     2. Don’t display any close buttons

     3. Display a single close button at the end of the tab bar (Firefox 1.x behavior)

Shut Down Your Pc 100 Times Faster

   Its harmless to ur pc.....

press cltr+alt+del
task manager will come
now see the "SHUT DOWN" option??
hold cltr and keep holding it
click on "shut down" tab on the task manager
ull c "turn off"option dere....
keep holding cltr click on "turn off"
keep holding cltr until the pc shus down ....
