Amarinda Jones is an erotic romance author that writes for a few publishers and these two reviews are from Siren Publishing. These are Erotic Vampire Romance (adult books) and the books are related. They are THE VAMPIRE'S BRIDE and THE VAMPIRE'S KISS. Review:

THE VAMPIRE'S BRIDE, first in the Maverick House series, by Amarinda Jones (this I named myself since there is 2nd book related (THE VAMPIRE'S KISS) and hopefully soon, the 3rd book of this series.

Alaric, our hero, a vampire and Josephine, our heroine, a mortal, have had a relationship in the past but as Alaric is back and forth into Josephine's life, she wanted stability and decided to begin anew a relationship with a mortal that she would be able to settle down with. As she's about to marry for convenience, not love but Alaric once again shows up, this time on her wedding day. As Alaric shows up, he is determined to not have her marry the mortal and instead marry him. But she's refusing, believing that the only reason he wants to marry her suddenly is because if he marries, he gets Maverick House! Alaric and Josephine steam up the pages of this book! Alaric is a tease, his way to not show his feelings. But Josephine wants the commitment and love from him. Alaric also has a cousin Richard who wants his rights to Maverick house and Alaric is determined to beat him to it and have it first! I so enjoyed Richard, the cousin in this book and read right to the second book after this one! He is a fun character.

The legends of Maverick house begin to be told in this book and even more so in the second book, THE VAMPIRE'S KISS. So this whole theme and legend flows within 3 books and so can't wait to read the 3rd book which will be Polly's story, the witch who is discovering the secrets to them having the house. For Alaric, its for him to marry. I loved how this legend of Maverick House was given in each of the books. Makes me so look forward to the last book that will give us those last clues! For me, this worked with the legend of Maverick House being told in parts in each book of the series. A fun and sexy read!

Review:

Ah, Richard's story finally in this book A VAMPIRE'S KISS by Amarinda Jones!! This book follow the cousin, Alaric (and Josephine's) story in A VAMPIRE'S BRIDE (Maverick's House 01). In the first book, I had found I so loved Richards fun side! And he didn't disappoint in A VAMPIRE'S KISS! It's all about the need for a kiss for his turn to have Maverick House. (I myself named this series Maverick House since they all set around this theme.) Richard is told that he can have Maverick House if kisses Memphis, who he is drawn to. As he tells her she has to kiss him so he has the house, it then becomes one thing she won't do for him, kiss him! I found them both to be so playful and daring. (and they sizzled together). More too is revealed about the history of the Maverick House. I did enjoy how the author brings out more of this part of the story into each book. A delightful, fun and sizzling read.

We also see Polly more in this book, the witch and her story is revealed more and it leaves us hanging with her leaving but saying she will be back. She too has found a love (but you got to read it to find out, no spoilers here!). I shall be awaiting Polly's story, if its not out yet!

A week after I wrote this review, I was back reading parts that meant so much to me, that touched me so much, that had tears in my eyes. I wanted to put that parts in the review and so more of the story but I so didn't want to give it away. Its one of my top reads this year! It will be one of yours too! Grab this one!

I haven’t read all of Anna Campbell historical romances, but after this read of Midnight’s Wild Passion, I so want to experience this special way she writes again. I so hope I have more of hers! Ms. Campbell has a way of bringing us back to the heroes of those historical romances from the bodice rippers time without the bodice rippers heroines! You get the feel of that intensity of the hero as a rake but with a strong heroine.

Midnight’s Wild Passion takes place in London 1827. Our hero, Nicholas Challoner, Marquess of Ranelaw is a rake and if his plans go as he predicts he will be one of the worst. As he has set out in revenge for his half sister, Eloise, who was ruined by Godfrey Demarest, one of the richest men in England. Godfrey Demarest, known as Demarest, is a womanizer and gone for most of the book in Paris pursuing women. He was one of his Nicholas’s father’s friends. Ranelaw’s hatred for Demarest is intense and has been stirring on him for years. That hate is what finally has drives Ranelaw to action.

Ranelaw sets out to attend balls and parties as a ruse, pretending to be in need of a wife. He’s not under suspicion because of his age. Ranelaw plans to seduce Demarest’s daughter, Miss Cassandra Demarest. Cassie is out for her debut. She’s a mostly smart, sensible young woman. For Ranelaw to get to Cassie, he first he has to get by her chaperone, Antonia Hilliard, aka Antonia Smith.

Antonia’s second cousin and employer, Demarest, is Cassie’s father. In exchange for a place to stay, Antonia agrees to chaperone Cassie’s debut into society while Demarest is in Paris. Antonia knows all about rakes. She was ruined 10 years ago, falling for a rake herself. She hides behind her glasses as a chaperone and no one suspects anything, but Ranelaw. She needs to remain hidden and any misstep in her identity and being discovered will bring scandal to Cassie. Ranelaw begins to see the real beauty of Antonia behind her drape-less dark dresses, glasses and her role as a chaperone. Based on how Antonio meets Ranelaw, there’s a challenge immediately between them. The banter with Antonia and Ranelaw is a delight to read! The more she confronts him and attempts to keep him away from Cassie, the more he’s up to the challenge to get her both Cassie and Antonia. He wanted his pursuit of Antonia to be private but his interest in Cassie to be the talk of the ton!

As the story unfolds, more of Ranelaw is revealed about his half-sister’s disgrace, his family, as well as his hatred for his father. There are scenes that bring out the strong emotions that Ranelaw hadn’t ever shown or revealed. He’s finding and believing he’s not the cruel rake he thought himself. This may sound like a familiar theme, but this author has a special way that really brings out the emotions of the characters and too for us readers. The characters come to life as well as the settings and scenery of the book. I fell more in love with Ranelaw after each page. So many of the characters dealing with ruination and how harsh it was during society that they had to hide for the rest of their lives. But even more so, how it affected Ranelaw as a child and into his adulthood. He had set out to get revenge for what Godfrey Demarest did to his sister by planning to ruin Demarest’s daughter Cassie. But Antonia gets in the way, in a way that was so unexpected for him that his plans don’t go as he wanted. Love gets in the way. The unique story of the heroine hiding as a chaperone was unique to this book. As Antonia feels her past is happening all over again, this time Ranelaw, she feels a love like nothing before but still a future that would be worse if she is found out. Ranelaw is melting for Antonia. His good side is coming out and he feels it too. The intensity between Antonia is a strong sexual tension but so much more, a strong emotional one that they feel for each other.

I'm new to Steampunk romance and so glad I'm reading this genre! I so hope this author Mari Fee writes more SOON! To start you off is a blurb first of BLUEBEARD'S MACHINE by Mari Fee. My Review:

I didn't know what 'Bluebeard' meant but I did check and so see how it fitted with the story! Here's a LINK to Wiki on basics! And went on to look up more about Bluebeard! I thought this was so well written that I could so visualize Isaac Ward undersea laboratory and all that happening around it in the water (just as I could picture her mad scientist husband's dungeon! As I love reading historical romances, especially Victorian as this one is set as, I loved the details on the clothing, the ships and the like that so gave the feel of that time. As the blurb and reviews indicate, Annette, Ada is on the adventure to escape and enlists Issac's help. He's so much more a beta hero, that I though fit for him with him being the scientist he is an his high intelligence. Since it was novella length, it didn't go in as deep as some stories do and for me, that worked so well since I'm new to this genre. I have tried others that were way too complicated and in depth that it took away the enjoyment when I had to figure everything out. With this I didn't. The romance is short but that was to be expected with the length and theme. But I would have loved more of them, such as longer in the undersea laboratory where maybe they would develop more of the relationship. Hence, the 4 stars instead of 5. But it did work very well for a novella! So here's hoping the author does more. So I need to find more that has a strong romance (and sizzle) in the Steampunk.

Hope you all had a good weekend! I put up most I read (I'm trying to remember to do all them) up on my Goodreads. It ends up being a great way for me to remember what I read through the year. In the meantime, I had wrote this review for Limecello's blog and just added it to my Goodreads, so here's the the review. It's a LONG one! I didn't realize how long it was til after I posted it. I need to write better summaries! I get too caught up in what I (love to) read! I got a few more I'm posting this weekend of all I've been reading so there will be more up! But basically its a good comforting bunch of novella's to read. You can read one and then take time between it to read the other stories since they are the same theme!

It Happened One Season by Stephanie Laurens

It Happened One Season is an Anthology with the same four Avon Historical Romance authors that wrote It Happened One Night in 2008. In It Happened One Night, there was a common theme that the authors Stephanie Laurens, Mary Balogh, Jacquie D’Alessandro and Candice Hern created. Each author wrote a story about a proper young lady free from society’s constraints due to being stranded at a remote inn where she comes face to face with the one that ends up being her HEA (Happily Ever After). This time around, the publisher had readers suggest what themes they would most like to read. A winner was picked, and they had the above mentioned story lines as well as:

The hero must find a bride because and produce a male heir.

The big difference with It Happened One Season, versus It Happened One Night is that there are several requirements in the story while the previous one was more open. So for me, reading one story after another, felt too much of the same story at first. Once I put aside repetitiveness, I enjoyed the next three stories more. They were focused on the hero and heroine rather than the circumstances and changed my opinion of the book. Since these four authors are all favorites of mine, I rarely have any criticism. I’m a huge fan of historical romance so I’m never one to have much of any issues with what I read since I love a variety despite having favorite themes (beauty and the beast, marriage of convenience, etc). After a bit of a slow start with the first story, the rest pulled it up.

First up was The Seduction of Sebastian Trantor by Stephanie Laurens. Our hero Sebastian Montgomery Trantor, is very well read and indulges in hieroglyphics, which I believe is decoding hidden words through codes. He resides in an Abbey healing both physically and emotionally from the war. Sebastian’s brother, Thomas, interrupts his serene life with a visit. Thomas and his wife have five children, all girls, so he tells Sebastian to marry so their cousin- a wastrel- won’t inherit. Thus, Sebastian goes and attends the Season. Sebastian hides out in the library at a ball and discovers the heroine, Tabitha Makepeace searching a desk. Tabitha has discovered that engaged girls are being blackmailed and she is determined to discover who the culprit is. Sebastian and Tabitha end up working together to solve the crime. Sebastian figures a fictional engagement to Tabitha would benefit them both. He wouldn’t have to attend any more balls and Tabitha could use his decoding skills to find who is blackmailing the ladies.

Tabitha feels she is a plain un-marriageable female on the shelf. Even though Sebastian lets her believe it’s a fictional engagement, he plans to convince her that it would solve both their issues if they enter a marriage of convenience. Stephanie Laurens story was one of the longest in the anthology. It was adventurous and fun to read about the sleuthing. Although the HEA does happen, and they declare their love for one another, it didn’t truly click with me- that spark that I usually can sense from the hero and heroine wasn’t quite there. Beautiful wording by this author, very poetic, but that feeling of ‘real and breathtaking’ when they came together just wasn’t there for me.

Grade: C

The second story is Only Love by Mary Balogh. Cleopatra Pritchard, Cleo, is a young widow that was married for five years and widowed for five years. Now 27, she believes that she will never marry again, as no one wants or wanted her. Cleo also thinks she’ll never have a lover. She was married to Colonel Aubrey Pritchard who was 23 years her senior. He didn’t want to court her, and wanted a biddable, plain lady to minister to his needs and not be a distraction to his men. Cleo felt so plain and overweight at that time of her life, she would have married anyone. Cleo has matured and gained confidence in the past decade, but her manner and behavior can still be awkward especially around men. Cleo has spent the last 4 Seasons with no suitors. Just as Cleo is about to give up and focus on her volunteering she meets Jack Gilchrist.

Cleo had met Jack once before when she was married as he was in the Colonel’s troop. Jack’s brother Matthew, informs Jack that he must find a wife and marry. Although Jack’s physical scars have healed, his emotional ones from the war have not. He hasn’t recovered from his aversion to being in the public and loathes others calling him a hero. He saw so much devastation in the war, that when he returned, stories about him and the adoration that society subjected him to had him re-living the war over and over. When Jack sees Cleo at the ball, he’s happy to see someone there he knows that isn’t a young marriage minded miss.

Cleo never forgot a kiss they shared some years back, the only passionate kiss that she’s experienced. Jack remembers it as well and never understood why he reacted to her that way at their one and only meeting. When together, Cleo’s shyness nearly disappears. Jack blurts out a proposal, because he thinks they would suit. Mary Balogh has a way with bringing different things, people, and events into the story that bring smiles and chuckles as well as sadness- almost tears. The relationship shows in the hero and heroine’s words and behavior. I thoroughly loved Cleo and Jack’s story! Even now, a couple weeks after reading, I still smile when I think about them. Another huge positive of each of these stories is being able to read an Epilogue that held a beautiful future for them. Especially so with Only Love.

Grade: A-

Hope Springs Eternal by Jacquie D’Alessandro gives us the story of Miss Penelope Markham, who was involved in a scandal due to her art. Penelope is witty and often gets herself into trouble because of her carefree ways. As a gifted artist, she’s been dismissed from being an art teacher and returns home where she meets the hero for the first time. Alec Trentwell served in the war with Penelope’s twin brother, Edward. Penelope often wrote to Edward who shared his letters with Alec. Thus Alec felt he got to know Penelope – so much so that he feels responsible for her. Edward died in the war, but during his life he was Alec’s commanding officer and best friend. Alec feels guilty for Edward’s death, so he plans to tell Penelope what happened to her brother in the war and apologize. Alec then plans to spend his time secluded in the small cottage he purchased. Alec is suffering from flashbacks and nightmares about all he experienced in Waterloo and Penelope senses Alec’s emotional scars.

Alec enjoys Penelope’s company, so he puts off his original plan and conversation. Alec is enjoying his new life and is afraid he will lose Penelope if he tells her how Edward died. Alec is told to wed to provide a heir, and conveniently, he and Penelope are in love with each other. Despite that, he’s terrified he will lose her. This story by Jacquie D’Alessandro may at times bring you close to tears. It is a beautifully emotional novella. Jacquie is presently writing contemporary romances. I dearly miss her historical romances and hope she comes back to writing more of her wonderful historicals.

Grade: B

The last story, Fate Strikes a Bargain by Candice Hern, brings us Captain Nathaniel Beckwith and Philippa Reynolds. Again following the “being required to marry and have a heir” theme, Nat’s brother, Lord Dearne interferes with Nat’s matrimonial plans. Philippa and Nat meet when Nat discovers her hiding in an attempt to escape the crush of a ball. Nat finds Philippa refreshingly candid and tolerant of his dark mood. Philippa’s herself and her respect for his emotions leads them to having very open and frank communication. Philippa is empathic as she’s dealt with her physical disability all her life. Philippa was born with a severe limp. She tolerates her over-protective parents but doesn’t limit herself or let it hinder her enjoyment of as active a life as she can physically handle. But Philippa’s disability often causes a sort of social ostracism. Nat sees past that much in the same way she sees past his manners (or lack thereof). While they both feel like they don’t fit in with society, they realize that they fit together!

Nat can be harsh with his words, but not towards her, and Philippa is too eager for confrontation and very blunt! It was refreshing to see how they meshed. A bargain of marriage is made, though Philippa’s parents force some courting where they get to know each. During this time they begin healing together, and find so many strengths between and within them. Nat had loved the army, but grew increasingly melancholy as he realized that the fighting at Waterloo had left him traumatized with nightmares and flashbacks of the battle. This is very evident through the story and emotional to read. The author details the feelings that Nat and Philippa are experiencing nicely. As their relationship grows, the bargain is sweetened! And the epilogue is bittersweet! Well worth reading. It ends up that fate and love brings Nat and Philippa together after all.

Grade: A

When the book started I thought it would end up too similar, but they end up being so unique and special stories. I hope the authors do this again!

Overall Grade: B+

I read and was so moved emotionally by it (you can put these book in your reader yourself since its not available on Amazon). Don't get confused by the cover. It looks like a contemporary cover but its a historical romance. I got to read some of SECOND CHANCES and so far its just as beautiful! That book is both on Amazon and Smashwords. Check your eReader store if you use other eBook readers. :)

This werewolf book, MOON THRALL was a winner for author Mel Teshco. So smooth sailing reading that I read from start to finish in a sitting! Both Elyse and Dane are Weren, werewolves. As she comes to a cabin to escape her ex-fiance, changes happen as her birthday approaches which she will become a Weren at her 25th birthday. Dane, her mate helps her through this change as well as the romance sizzling and felt so real and intense! Its a novella length but it captured everything needed for this story. I so would love to read more of the Weren, that this 'world' that the author created could be expanded to more heroes like Dane! We don't see any possible characters for future stories but I can see this author doing it! In the meantime its a fab read and if you don't get enough of her books, she also has a quick werewolf CARNAL MOON (not related at all to this book) that was great reading too. I shall be diving into anything she writes!

Do you read E-Books? I don't know what I'd do without them! I've read many e-book authors who started with the small publishers like 6+ years ago that are now still writing for the small publishers as well as the big print publishers like Kensington, Berkley, etc. And I love going each week (make that each day!) to small E-Book publishers to find new ebooks and authors and reading them. Many of the reviews I post are from them! Some authors are re-releasing their backlist too! Then authors who write independently and sell at many ebook distributors have been awesome reads. Here are some books/authors that I recently discovered. Some indie, some re-released Amazon, BN, ARe and Smashwords, Fictionwise and many other ebook distributors.

Since I love reading historical mysteries (they have awesome romances that grow over the series), I so wanted to read these re-releases (previously been in print for years but they re-released in sky high prices in ebook) Six Sisters and The Traveling Matchmaker Regency Historical Mysteries/Romances of M.C. Beaton/Marion Chesney but due to cost of them almost $10 an ebook, I have to pass them on. But in the search I discovered M. Louise Locke's Victorian San Francisco series! She writes as an independent author, and I'm waiting for more!!
P. B. Ryan's Gilded Age Mysteries.She re-released hers at $2.99. Awesome deal! So search out there! Try new to you authors. Try out Smashwords (they too let you download samples so you can get a feel of the authors writing). Amazon has this as well. Check out all the small ebook publishers of all different genres! (I so wanted to list books and authors from all the small publishers but knew that I wouldn't have room for that!) There are so many out there, that I suggest you go to READ AN E-BOOK WEEK site and E-BOOK CROSSROADS and they have a huge list there as well to help you start, they have some links there. I am so glad I did!

Have you discovered some historical romances authors/books. I'd love to hear your recommendations! I only stuck with historical romances because I could list so much for so many of the different genres! There's so much good out there for you to enjoy reading. He acts strong on his animalism instincts in both his human and panther form. His draw to the heroine was strong magnetic pull that he knew that he found his mate in her after many years.

Heroine, Sydney Chase, is recently out of a domestic violence relationship, and has always been in a romantic relationship. She vows that with her failure rate in them and always suffering the broken heart, her focus would be on her physical needs, with one night stands. Sydney heads to The Panther's Lair to search out in her one night physical affair and meets the owner, Raimond and she reacts immediately to him with his first words, strong of a French accent along with using some French endearments, his sexy body, his scent and his eyes, that often change to yellow. Sydney reminds herself often to enjoy the sex and make nothing more of it. As she takes more charge in their sexual activity, she makes some independent moves that gives her a feeling of control and strength.

Unknowingly, Raimond bonds Sydney to him, with their first lovemaking, with a mating custom. The session was very erotic, carnal, raw and intense with their sexual reactions. Concerned she may be taking on feelings in from their session, she leads him in different directions so that he would not be able to find her again. Sydney's past catches up to her and Raimond is there to assist but things move too fast for Sydney to comprehend who and Raimond really is. Yet Raimond can't give her up on his soul mate, but too he can't force Sydney to love him.

THE PANTHER'S LAIR by Esmerelda Bishop is over too soon! Its that kind of book that you don't want to end and hate to say goodbye to the hero and heroine (here's begging for more stories from this author!) Raimond's endearments, especially, 'Mon âme soeur', My soul mate could be felt just as much by the reader as the character! I could feel and see the goosebumps throughout reading this book. The mating called, archaic human custom, was so unique and sensual to read! Even-though not much more is given regarding any other panthers or shape shifter characters or its world, it gave all it needed to tell their story. Sydney's friend has a part in the story with little background who could be one to possibly have her own story and a HEA as well (Happily Ever After) (Just saying) The author did super in bringing about the mating custom smoothly right at the time it occurred. When the ending did come for this book, it was adventurous, gripping as well as so moving to read. Raimond is one special hero that said so much with his actions as well as his beautiful words. Sydney was a strong heroine that fought some difficulties both physically and emotionally in her life but could see and feel when it was love and didn't fight it long. It was great to see this not dragged on but confronted between them in resolving. It made it smooth reading as well as bringing out all the parts that made this book. This author Esmerelda Bishop made it so special with Sydney and Raimond in THE PANTHER'S LAIR. A first read of this author but here's hoping for more from Esmerelda Bishop!

I just got through reading ONE WICKED NIGHT by Heather Boyd. Not only a sensual and romantic erotic historical romance, but so emotional. Took me by surprise in so much that happened between Benedict Abernathy and Lady Charlotte Goodchild, that I still keep thinking of all they went to, to be together again. Lady Charlotte is under a disguise so that she can hide herself as Lottie, a famous courtesan, so that she could have one last night with Benedict.

Both have loved before, but Lady Charlotte's ruin and Benedict's trying to give himself some joy without the fear of being harmed. So with both the h/h in an deep love for one another, are so far apart even tho they are together this night. Gosh, it was so beautiful to read and feel the emotions going through both of them and wanting them to be together. This author Heather Boyd so gives it all with their revealing tale in a short story, but so worth it!. I'm so looking forward to her next erotic historical romance!

This ebook grabbed my interest with the fairy tale theme, THE ENCHANTED FLUTE by Nichelle Gregory. Nichelle Gregory is a new to me author, and glad I got this one to read. I'm looking forward to more tales and stories from this author. I have two more of her fairy tales that I will be reading soon.

I don't know if its based on a fairy tale (I don't know my fairy tales much, but would love to know if this one was one) that was created into an erotic love story from it, but it has that big feel of a fairy tale. Arye plays his flute as a master that captures those around him with the beauty of the music he makes. He's a very lonely man who keeps to his music until he meets Lanai. Lanai is an enchantress who falls in love fast for Arye after hearing his music. He's not convinced that she falls in love with him or just his music. In anger, she sends a curse to his flute.

As a short story of an erotic fairy tale, there is bewitching and romantic story of Arye and Lanai. For a short story, it packs in enchanting romantic read!

My interest was perked up with finding the blurb to be a heroine who is a mechanic in UNDER THE HOOD by BL Bonita. I sat down in the evening and read it right through and absolutely loved it! The heroine, Andi, and the hero, Darren, meet as he is new to the area. There was a quick interest in each other when they meet, with them both react from the sparks that flew! (I'm having fun with the mechanic terms!) Andi is still coming out of a bad relationship and she finds many are turned off by her being a mechanic. When she meets Darren, he seems to find her her tools of her trade to be sexy! He's in town to work out a business deal that may interfere with their relationship.

Darren was a hero I come to enjoy reading, one that stands up WITH the heroine. Darren would come to the rescue, but not in a dominating way, but one that was caring for Andi. And I liked how she as the heroine appreciated it. We often like to read heroines that are independent and stand up for themselves and she does, but its great too to see a hero standing up WITH her! The way he was protective made Darren so sensual! So there for her. They sizzled together in their trust and love for each other. It was a quick but so satisfying a read! Its a perfect weekend evening read! I haven't read many contemporaries lately so this was a fab quick dip into it!

Title: TO SIN WITH SCANDAL

I did post this one but you may have missed it. This author has another book out and shall be reading it soon. It really was a joy to review TO SIN WITH SCANDAL by Tamara Gill. Lord Sedley, usually known as Lord Scandal, decides to settle down and leave his rake-ous behaviors for good! Lady Miranda Fitsimmon and Lord Scandal share a past young love full of misunderstanding and lost of years together. As Lady Miranda wants to have just one night of sin with Scandal, will it be enough to satisfy them both to move on with their own lives? Will they release not only the pent up lust for each other, but their love too?

Tamara Gill's debut is a beauty! A quick story but so fulfilling! The heat of Lord Scandal and Lady Miranda sizzle both in their emotional and physical attraction. Their story kept me on my toes til every word and need was vented. I honestly wanted more and hope that their a future of more historical romances from Ms. Gill and we'll get to re-visit these characters.

Reading Now: Right now I'm into a print read of the last of Tess Dare's first Trilogy, A LADY OF PERSUASION. I can't believe how unique each story was! From the middle book set mostly on the the ship, its now back to London with this one! Then too on my ebook, I started reading, HOUSE OF IMMORTAL PLEASURES by Katie Salidas, which is an awesome vampire romance (very sensual so far). Its a special right now for just a short time (can go back up tomorrow or whenever) for .99 cents in ebook (Amazon, Smashwords) She too has a vampire series out called Immortalis. Both ebook and print. I decide to check this out and so glad I did! I shall be doing a full review here in the coming days.

I had the opportunity to review JEWELED by Anya Bast and grabbed that chance! I've read various books of Ms. Bast's but never have read a erotic historical fantasy. I have read very little of fantasy romance, and pretty much none of straight fantasy, so I then worried I wouldn't do so well with a review of this genre. I started out with taking notes and it was taking away time from the book, but also, being able to enjoy the book. So I put all the notes away and just sat and read this book from beginning to end in enjoyment, and so glad I did!

JEWELED is an oh so fastinating read! And so passionate! I firmly got caught up in this world and still haven't left it. Its set in no certain time period that was indicated, thus, an 'alternative historical'. There's some indications with one of the themes of the heroine being fascinated with the inventions that were happening (sewing machine, printing press). But as you read, its just 'the time it is' in the story and works! Set in a unique and creative world, I could feel that Ms. Bast really had a world planned out and everything flowed smoothly into it. Its set in a country called 'Rylisk' and they are in the city called 'Milzyr'. The heroine, Evangeline has been in a palace called 'Belai' where all those with Magick in their blood reside . Evangeline was taken from her family at age 4. She is isolated within the Palace with others who work on their Magick over the years. The Magicks started with the family of 'Edaeii' but with very little family left, they relied on finding those with any Magick and building on it through the years by isolating them. This family of the Edaeii also took over the city with their wealth and power, leaving the poor not taken care of.

Evangeline's Magick is consisted of feeling both physically and emotionally cold, but no other emotions are with her. She instead draws emotions from those around her and weaves those feelings back to those around her to manipulate what feeling they have. In other words, she can control and change the emotions around her. Anatol's Magick consists of illusion and light.

As Evangeline comes of age, she becomes jeweled by performing her Magick skills in front of the Edaeii family. Once she is chosen to be part of their Magick family, she is jeweled with a sapphire stone placed in her back. In the men, its placed on the back of their neck. Its here we meet one of the hero's, Anatol, who goes through the ceremony to be jeweled but wants nothing to do with the Edaeii family as he has heard the rumors of a possible revolution happening to take out this family and palace. When this does happen, Evangeline is totally unprepared to live outside of the palace while Anatol plans to survive through this. Anatol has falling in love with Evangeline from afar for many years. As the city takes over the palace, there's violence that occurs which I do tend to skip over. But its necessary to the story in the power of how this city took over.

As Evangeline and Anatol survive trying to blend in as well as hide at other times, Evangeline has a difficult time dealing with not using her Magick but also learning to be herself, to feel herself for basically the first time in her life. As their relationship grows strong, Evangeline has strong feelings for Anatol but its not complete. Its here we meet Gregorio who is helping the city take back their home and life and make their government for everyone. Gregorio may be the missing part that makes Evangeline complete. Evangeline struggles with her own self esteem and feeling emotions again, especially determining what love is, and mostly wondering if she's good enough for both Anatol and Gregorio.

As a reader I was enchanted by Anya Bast's JEWELED. Evangeline goes through so much within this story that I felt I could see her grow from the beginning of the book to the very end. I could feel empathy for her feelings of her being worthy. Both Anatol and Gregorio are so different but with the same goals. I did look up to both Anatol and Gregorio for their protectiveness of her. She had her own strengths and other times her strengths were with them and I didn't find this as a weakness of her. I found it made her stronger knowing she could depend on others in her life but also that she could include them as part of her life as well. The passion that was shared through this story grew from two to three and it worked. I realized that it couldn't be any other way but the way it was told. I found this book not only a gripping adventure with an exciting fantasy to read, but also breathtaking in the love that grew between them all to become one in love. Ms. Bast has created an erotic historical fantasy that I'm already waiting for the next book. Its been awhile since I read the book and I can still visualize as well as see the scenes still within me as a reader. This one's a keeper, an A for me!

Happy new years friends,readers & authors! Looking forward to posting more this year, even if its just to post on what I'm reading because as you know, I love to chat about books and hear what YOU are reading! Later this week I'm posting on a short story from author Holli Winters, PARIS BY MOONLIGHT, a holiday story. Too will be offering up her ebook as a giveaway. It will be fun to post another review of her books, as it was a perfect evening romantic read!

I'm right now finishing up a series of books of the Song of the Muses available in ebook, but too available in print of 3 anthologies, from The Wild Rose Press. (I so would love to get the prints, I need to now start saving again!) I had read a couple when they first came out at, but wasn't able to get the rest then. Recently over the last several weeks, I got the rest of the series. While reading one, then the next, I just so elated and absorbed in reading these. I hardly know nothing in Mythology except what I learned in romance books I read! And I'll keep it that way! I do like to look up more on certain legends and the like (like who was Eros, Greek god of Love, whew), just like I do with some themes I find when reading a Historical romance (like what 'Maypole was). I've been so elated getting back to the Song of the Muses series written by 9 different authors at The Wild Rose Press. I've been so into them, so excited that I don't want any romance readers to miss these! They will be ones that I plan to re-read! Again, they were so fun, some humorous, all so romantic and just great, so creative unique stories! You must get and read ALL. I didn't want to miss any!

Sinjun family has been meddling him into marrying again but he is reluctant, since he has been a widow some time and has not considered marriage again since losing his first wife due to an illness and wasn't wanting to be in an arranged marriage again. As he too is a horseman, he found even more interests with Charis and is delightful and enlighten with her her. With exploring each other physically, they could enjoy and get to know each other. As Charis and Sinjun get deeper into their relationship, Sinjun doesn't know if his deception will ruin his chance to be with her, as his wife? And is their love for each other to convince her to marry?

Author Sahara Kelly is a gifted author of writing various lengths and does exceptionally well with bringing a full delightful stories with her shorter works, as she did with Compromising Charis! This book was enjoyed three times for the review! First to read to savor the story, then to read again to get some details, then so had to read a 3rd time in delectable pleasure once again to revisit Charis and Sinjun and their romance! Charis and Sinjun are so much an amusing and fun couple that fit so perfectly in their own ways. With the feverish sensuality, their love sparkled with each other in all ways, personality, wit, physical attraction and definitely, their love for each other. Together, Charis is a strong independent and self-determined, sensuous and too whimsy woman while Sinjun, definitely no lackwit, had a charming personality, suave and seductive handsomely appealing all around, are a couple you won't be able to resist to re-read Compromising Charis by Sahara Kelly again.

Her Heart's Divide by Kathleen Dienne is a contemporary erotic romance with time travel elements along with a menage a trois. Lila and Ryan are a happily married couple who have been married a number of years. They both work together along with their long time friend and boss, Jack. Both Lila and Ryan's marriage and romance is very passionate and strong. At one time, Lila did have a attraction to Jack that the memory still embarrasses her when she thinks about it, but had moved past that and fell in love with Ryan.

One day out of the ordinary, Jack informs Lila and Ryan that something happened with him involving 'flashing lights and noises' and he can't recall being married to his wife Allison, but instead thinks he is married to Lila, Ryan's wife! Lila debates with Jack, filling him in on their background but Jack seems to have lost the period of time from when he once kissed Lila, that embarrassing reminder for her, and that they instead furthered the relationship that evening and even married. Even the house that Ryan and Lila share, he believes, is actually his and Lila's.

Ryan, Lila's husband, appears more understanding and accepting to Jack's 'time travel elements' where Jack has lost that time after the romantic incident with Lila and Jack. Ryan gets to the core with Lila on her feelings of Jack then and dispenses with the fact that Jack is presently living in the time of the incident with Lila and that he wants to express his feelings for her. Ryan also has Lila open up to how she felt when Ryan was watching their lovemaking as well as the idea of both making love to her.

Allison returns home to visit with Lila explaining the events that happened were from her doing at a workshop, of getting a glimpse at alternate realities by going back to that time to see what would have happened, if they had made different choices. Allison herself was curious what things would be like if she didn't marry Jack. Its then that Allison appears to voice that she's accepting to them living in this past while they are and that she will turn things back the next day.

Her Heart's Divide by Kathleen Dienne is an erotic romance that contains a menage a trois, voyeurism and suspended in time travel, some may consider, consenting fling-like situation. It seemed at first that Lila was ok with the dreaming of any 'fantasy' she had of Jack without acting it out but agrees with Ryan and consents to a menage a trois . With the ending feeling a bit sudden and the uneasiness that Jack and Lila are feeling at the end, some questions were left unanswered. It wasn't totally very clear on Jack's wife's intentions with them acting as if it was that time and how this would all affect Jack and Allison's relationship in the future. There appeared to be some clouding of the strength of their relationship with Jack and his wife Allison. Too, it would of helped to have more knowledge about Allison and the 'time travel' that occurred and more into how it did. Hopefully the author will re-visit, or maybe tell more of Jack and Allison's story to assure a HEA (Happily Ever After) from this 'time travel'. But some strong points of this novella, is that there is a strong friendship and trust between Ryan, Lila and Jack. Allison did state he wasn't betraying her by loving her. Also the romance and love between the Ryan and Lila's marriage was strong and beautiful to read and very sizzling!

Very sensual and romantic scenes with Cecilia, Jeremy and Richard, its one quick read that the author ties together to a successful ending for all three! While in the beginning of the book appears to have some terminology from the author's deep writing that may require looking up as well re-reading as long worded sentences, the second half is much more visually and empathetic connecting with the characters and their emotions. This tied up The Debutante's Dilemma by Elyse Mady to be a quick sizzling Menage a trois romance read, great for a one evening read!

I'm so thrilled to be writing a review for this book! You will so be in the holiday moods after this beautiful sweet Christmas romance, HOLIDAY AFFAIR by Lisa Plumley. I have had the joy of discovering Lisa Plumley's historical romances by chance a few years ago with THE SCOUNDREL (not presently available but hopefully some will come back in ebook) and since have looked forward and backwards to find more of her books. Lisa Plumley has a backlist of many fun contemporary romance still available and still continues to write historical romances with MAIL-ORDER GROOM coming from Harlequin Historicals on December first. Definitely check out her site for the awesome variety of books available. When I'm looking for a comfort read, a story that will boost my spirits, I turn right to her books. Every Christmas I get to look forward to a Holiday book from hers released! When I first discovered these contemporary romance with HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS, I got the goosebumps all over again along with that great warm feel during, after and still from reading HOLIDAY AFFAIR.

HOLIDAY AFFAIR by Lisa Plumley gives the warmest and sweetest romance of Karina and Reid. Planning her first Christmas with her three children alone after her divorce, Karina is feeling as a failure and trying so hard to pull together to bring Christmas to her home. Reid a single dad of two daughters with a nanny/tutor is always on the go doing travel adventures for team building for businesses and keeps busy to let the holidays pass by. Karina is secretly visiting The Christmas House, a Bed & Breakfast (B & B), in Kismet Michigan, going in place of her sister's company, to evaluate them risk and assess for a possible purchase with her sister's company. Doing this would be twofold, a great experience for her in the job area, but mostly to be able to give her children a Christmas that would be worthwhile for them with the spirit of it surrounding them. She goes to efforts beyond, both hilarious and at times, emotional, to do all the things she can despite being a single mother. When Reid gets a call to come home to his grandparents at The Christmas House immediately, he discovers they want to retire and sell The Christmas House, and want Reid to do it by making sure the deal of selling goes through during a 'mandatory anonymous evaluation' at this Christmastime.

Its here where Karina and Reid are thrown together at the B & B, both immediately begin to enjoy a holiday affair, but both never planned to fall in love again. Reid plans weren't to settle down but to continue his traveling after closing this deal. While there, he gives in to enjoy Christmas at the Christmas House for his daughters. With Karina giving in to having a fling, a Holiday affair, she didn't plan to fall in love and risk trust in the relationship by holding back what she originally was there to do and Reid questioning her honest feelings for them all. Full of adventures between Karina, Reid, the children and all at The Christmas House, there is never a moment of to rest, not wanting this all to ever end.

I can't put into the words I want to, how delightful, humorous, heartwarming and loving HOLIDAY AFFAIR by Lisa Plumley is. When Karina is talking to herself with her, you will have you laughing right out loud! Reid's antics and sense of humor had me smiling through too. The romance of Reid and Katrina will have you overjoyed! That feel of knowing love and laughter is so expressive and evident with them both. Weighing out the task she has to evaluate the Christmas House puts a strain on the relationship holding this back. This book couldn't be the story it was without the children! They have a huge part of bringing them together as well as showing them what family and love is all about. They both found this love and so want to trust this time its everlasting. I couldn't recommend a more romantic HOLIDAY AFFAIR to read and enjoy this year that this one! Thanks for bringing the joy Lisa Plumley with Reid and Karina and their children story!

This event is a culmination of the creative forces behind two fellow book bloggers....GMR of Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers and The 1st daughter of There's A Book....which just goes to show you how "dangerous" an idea can be when you truly put your mind to it and have a good friend to conspire with....it turns into something with actual substance!

Hoping you having a good week. I'm between reading 2 books at the same time, Amanda Forester's THE HIGHLANDER'S SWORD (print) and TEXAS TANGLE by Leah Braemel (ebook, which I'll have a review up of soon, from Carina Press). So a good reading week, I'm out of my slump! Amanda Forester is a new a new debut author from Sourcebooks Casablanca. A highlander, yum! Leah Braemel's book is a sizzling western, her first with Carina Press but she has others out with other ebook publishers as well! I was unable to locate Amanda Forester's site, but the links for her above are for the publisher. I too discovered some new to me ebook authors!

Chatting today about ebooks AND prints...

Since I love reading a variety of genres and authors, I have my print books in a pile here, and my ebook readers full of books! I love reading print authors and love reading ebook authors, both new, new to me and debut authors. Many author now write in BOTH! It's so fun to find debut and new to me authors with their new writing voices and stories. As many authors publish both in ebook and print, some started in the small publishers ebooks then went on to the print Pubs (Cheyenne McCray, Jaci Burton, Delilah Devlin, and so many more that too still publish ebooks with small publishers.) With author Marie Treanor, I began reading her with her debut ebooks, like QUEEN'S GAMBIT that was with another ebook publisher before Samhain. She has a variety of great ebooks out in a few different ebook publishers and will have her first Big print book from NAL Signet Eclipse, BLOOD ON SILK, first in the Awakened by Blood series September 7, 2010. (Isn't it a beautiful cover!) I often say either the Big print or NY pubs interchanging to mean the print publishers other than print on demand. I am so counting the days until this release of Marie Treanor. I get excited for the authors, like when this recently happened with Monica Burns and Mary Wine who started with the small ebook pubs and now have their books out with big print pubs AND still write their great ebooks. Its a great feeling reading them from the beginning in ebooks and watching and reading along as they continue to reach their goals with publishing with NY as well. If you are reading some NY print authors, check and they may have previous books out in ebook that you don't want to miss!

My ebook reader is perfect to carry around to my appointments. I use both a Kindle and Sony. My Sony is mostly for books I get from all over the different ebook publishers. With the Kindle, I can put books in there but too I've been discovering so many new to me authors that have self published their books with Kindle. Some are authors that I missed reading their books earlier when they were out (like author Patricia Ryan re-released already some of her earlier historicals in ebooks. I can't wait to read!) and they re-published them for us who missed them the first time around. Author Nancy Lawrence who previously wrote Traditional Regency books, has her books re-released in ebooks. I requested an excerpt from Amazon and read it and so had to get it and read it all! It was A BEWITCHING MINX which was sweet, fun and a romantic regency romance read! It was perfect to lifting my spirits! This was a novella in a 1999 Regency Anthology ENCHANTING KITTENS (each story has a kitten within it, they should have a Regency picture instead since these are Regency Romances but the new cover is perfect). For me, I didn't know about this author or these romances in 1999, so it was a great surprise to find it! I'm trying to find a blog or forum that authors post their independent books or self publishing books they placed on the Amazon Kindle and elsewhere, divided by the genres. If you know of any blogs/sites or boards where authors post their self published or published on Kindle books, let me know! Nancy Lawrence's that I mentioned above, I discovered by just searching genres but I know I am missing so much more. This week I discovered a historical romance set in Scotland that I hope I can get soon by Leslie Ann Dennis, REASON TO BELIEVE. I do wished that the Amazon Kindle let us know the publisher and the length of the books at the Kindle Store. I need to find out where to post and ask about that!

Then there was a Hardcover from Five Star that publishes forLibraries, BETRAYAL by Karen Fenech. This is a medieval romance that I have had on my wishlist since it came out in 2006! I just was not able to pay the cost for their hardcovers. I was delighted to find this now in ebook for a mere $2.99, full novel, in Kindle! (I'm not sure, but it probably will be at Smashwords soon which has many other formats). Then too a favorite author of mine that writes historical romances, Dorothy McFalls, also wrote a hardcover historical romance, full novel, for Five Star called THE NUDE. Its both finally now on the Kindle now and at Smashwords (and Smashwords has it in many formats and on sale now at 25% off.) So I got this one coming up to read shortly too. I shall post here about it after I read, but in the meantime the links for all the books I'm chatting about you can find by clicking the titles or pics here on this post. They also have first time release books there as well. I am always shopping around! I noticed that the Ellora's Cave and Cerridwen Press books on Amazon are more than at the publisher's site, so its good to check out the publisher's sites too.

As a reader, I have so much appreciation for all the authors, both ebook and print, are writing and doing. I thank everyday that I discovered ebooks and gave them a try because I would have missed so much! I so can't even write a paragraph, so I don't know how they all do all this writing. So, to the authors, many thanks for all you do. I think I'd go nuts without my reading! And many thanks to readers for the recommendations you tell me about here and on the web.

Got Books!

This is a celebration about books, but more so for the bloggers that help tell the world about them. Where did you find out about your latest read? The store...a website...the publisher...how about a book blog? Chances are if you are online or have a book blog yourself, some of your future reads came from your fellow bloggers. Whether given a glowing review or something a bit more critical, the post drew your attention and made you want to find out more. This event is to celebrate book bloggers round the world by shining a light on their efforts, spreading the word about their sites for future follows on your reading rounds, and have a little contest fun along the way!

I found out about Got Books! from fellow readers blogs Reviews by Martha, Fangtastic Books and more! Its an annual event is coming up next week. I'm still learning about it and plan to do a book contest too! So come back July 23-24, and see what's happening here and at 104 other reader blogs so far!
