SAUSIYENTA Bat SARAH | 5703-5775 | סיסִיֶענְטָא בת שָׂרָ֔ה

May her Name be as a Blessing Aleha HaShalom / עליה השלום

May her soul be bound up in the bonds of life.

May her memory be as a blessing and may she rest in peace

Sherron Lee Day, formerly Sherron Donnelly & Sherron Peck, transcended to heaven on Saturday April 24th 2015 in her new south Surrey home surrounded by her loving family now in mourning; Husband George Maxwell Day, Sister in law Joan Schertzberg (Day), Son Dean Donnelly, Daughter in law Marlene Tompkins, Grandsons Ethan & Hayden Donnelly.

Sherron Lee Reznick was born on October 8th 1943 in Saskatoon Saskatchewan to Myer "Max" Reznick and Sarah "Sylvia" Reznick. After her grandparents immigrated to Canada in the early 1900's, her parents were wed in Winnipeg Manitoba before moving to their new home in Saskatoon. Five years later on Erev Yom Kipper ‘Sher’ was born as the second child to elder brother Benny (1941-1947) , 7 years before her sister Marilyn (1951) and 10yrs before her youngest sibling Ronald (1953). Life on Poplar Crescent was full of close friends and neighbours in a warm close-knit community. She enjoyed growing up and going to school in the thriving vibrant Buena Vista & Nutana area of Saskatoon where the family residences still stand today.

Her father had built his business’s from meagre beginnings at Saskatoon Glass to a successful local developer while Her mother “Sylvia” ran the household raising her four children, and leading the children by example in both community volunteerism and in Jewish & Family traditions Instilling in her daughter the values of family, kindness, graciousness, and appreciation. Sherron enjoyed fulfilling her young girls school fancy to become a BV-figure skater, Nutana Blues cheerleader and ultimately the Head Majorette of the Saskatoon

Lions Club Marching Band. She was known to all her classmates, girl and boyfriends as a gentle unselfish young woman who was always loved and admired for her loyalty and caring towards others.Sherron had found her “Young Hero” before she had left Nutana Collegiate in ‘63 and two years later married Donald Donnelly (1942-1983) in Saskatoon where he was an officer in the Saskatoon Police Department as she began her 30+ year banking career. The newly weds had a few apartments around town before settling down on Windsor Street with their new baby boy Dean Cole born in 1968.

In 1971 Sherron moved “Out-West” to Vancouver continuing to battle personal adversities and health challenges while simultaneously winning the hearts of her friends & colleagues in over a half dozen lower-mainland branches of the Bank of British Columbia, eventually the HSBC Bank of Canada. Sherron later found her true “Life-partner and Sole-mate” in George Day within a circle of friends that had developed in the late 70’s. George and Sherron became inseparable in the early 80’s and officially tied the knot over a decade later in 1994. Sherron & George lived all over the lower mainland before settling into their Dundas St. Vancouver home, while George worked nearby in the North Vancouver ship yards and Sherron in the Hastings and Nanaimo Branch of the HSBC Bank where she ultimately retired in the late 90’s.

Life was sweet, simple and rich to them both, as Sherron hid handwritten love notes in Georges bag-lunch only to later gush over finding his love notes tucked away in the pages of her favourite Danielle Steel romance novel. She would often enjoy these books with “cold one” under the hot sun while tanning on a lawn chair whenever the weather permitted. Together this couple enjoyed many sunny destination holidays and regularly toured by truck throughout the northwest provinces and states, visiting auto shows & car racing events.

Other fond 'Sher' pastimes included: *Many hours in the sunroom overlooking Dundas traffic;**Late night long distance calls to her mother in Saskatoon or her Sister in Law Joan in Ontario; ***Walking the (Donald Market / Library / PNE) circuit around her familiar East Van neighbourhood.
In 2000 Sherron & George became new grandparents to their first grandchild Ethan Donnelly and three years later youngest grandson Hayden Donnelly. Over the past 35 years “Uncle & Aunty Day” later “Grandma & Grandpa Day” attended a myriad of family life events where they always arrived with glowing grins, big hugs & soft kisses to bestow on the grandsons as well as many beloved young nieces & nephews.

Throughout her life Sherron battled a multitude of maladies both genetic and acquired, from profound Scoliosis to serious abdominal cancers without any whimpers or complaints. She was a true fighter her entire life as she fought for the underdog and those less fortunate around her as witnessed in her decades of donating time, money and energy towards the United Way, MS Society and Hospital Cancer research.
In the last months few months of her “Home Hospice” care in their South Surrey Townhome, Sherron rallied against the craziness surrounding her tongue and throat carcinoma by celebrating every moment, singing, joking, laughing and dancing while surrounded with the warmth and love of her family and lots of precious pink things glowing in the spring sunlight.

Making these final months and days a special time required the coordination and assistance of many people dedicating infinite hours to ensure this reality was possible. We the family, wish to express our deepest heartfelt appreciation to the many special individuals who made these incredible contributions to Sherron’s life this past year and all years past.

Sherron will be adored, revered and remembered by a huge extended circle of family & friends stretching from the Pacific to the Atlantic in Canada and the United States and Worldwide from Israel to Austria and back. She has given all of us the opportunity to follow and learn her “Kind of Matter! Attitude of Gratitude” while she silently prevailed through overwhelming medical adversities showing us all how amazing her love, courage and extraordinary will to live would grow in our hearts like flowers of the soul.

Legacy of Love.

A wife, my mom, and our grandma too,

Family forever was everything to you,

A twirler, a leader, a friend & sister too,

This is the legacy we now have from you.

You taught us love and how to fight,

You gave us strength and you gave us might.

You fought for all of us in one way or another,

As a survivor, a friend, a wife and a mother.

For all of us you gave your best,

Even now as you've come to rest.

A stronger person would be hard to find,

As you touched so many being so caring & kind.

Your love shone through in your sweet grinning face,

Wearing your heart on your sleeve, you'll never be replaced.

With your winks, your touch and your silly angry glare,

With your notes and jokes you showed us love and how to share.

Amidst our broken hearts here, we know you're not alone,

For part of us went with you, as Heaven became your home.

Your memory is our keepsake, of which we'll never part,

As you've joined G-d in his keeping, we always have you in our hearts.

We know you're in a place of peace, where all your pain is gone,

As we see a pink flower in the breeze we feel your love live on.

St George's Day 23.04.15

St George's Day in England remembers St George, England's patron saint.

The anniversary of his death, which is on April 23, is seen as England's national day.

According to legend, he was a soldier in the Roman army who killed a dragon and saved a princess.

Celebrate St George's Day

St George's Day used to be a national holiday in England. It is now an observance that is celebrated with parades, dancing and other activities. Flags with the image of St George's cross are flown on some buildings, especially pubs, and a few people wear a red rose on their lapel.

Church services on the Sunday closest to April 23 often include the hymn 'Jerusalem', written by the poet William Blake. The words describe a supposed visit to Glastonbury, England, by Jesus Christ during his youth.

Public life

April 23 is not a public holiday. Schools, stores, post offices, businesses and other organizations are open as usual. Public transport services run to their usual timetables.

About St George's Day

St George was born sometime around the year 280 in what is now Turkey. He was a soldier and rose up through the ranks of the Roman army, eventually becoming a personal guard to the Emperor Diocletian. He was executed for being a Christian on April 23, 303, and is buried in the town of Lod in Israel.

St George is most widely known for slaying a dragon. According to legend, the only well in the town of Silene was guarded by a dragon. In order to get water, the inhabitants of the town had to offer a human sacrifice every day to the dragon. The person to be sacrificed was chosen by lots. On the day that St George was visiting, a princess had been selected to be sacrificed. However, he killed the dragon, saved the princess and gave the people of Silene access to water. In gratitude, they converted to Christianity. It is thought that the dragon represents a certain type of pagan belief that included the sacrifice of human beings.

St George's Day was once celebrated as widely as Christmas. But the celebrations waned by the end of the 18th century after England had united with Scotland on May 1, 1707. In recent times, there has been a push, involving campaigns and petitions, to make the day a public holiday in England.

St George is the patron saint of a number of other places, such as Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Portugal and Russia. He is also remembered in some regional holidays, such as in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada and among the Gorani people who live in a mountainous area in the Balkans and were converted to Islam many centuries ago, but still observe St George's Day. Around the world, a number of days are devoted to St George, including April 23 and dates in November and December of the Gregorian calendar.

Symbols

The most widely recognized symbol of St George's Day is St George's cross. This is a red cross on a white background, which is often displayed as a flag. It is used as England's national flag, forming part of the Union Flag, the national flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Saint George's cross was originally the flag of the maritime Republic of Genoa. Around 1190, the King of England started paying the Doge of Genoa to protect ships originally from the city of London and the rest of England that sailed in the Mediterranean.

During the crusades in the 1100s and 1200s, English knights used St George's cross as part of their uniform. It has been the official flag of England for centuries, but the Union Flag, a combination of St George's cross, St Andrew's cross and St Patrick's cross, is the national flag of the United Kingdom. Now Saint George's cross is used as a national symbol by fans of the English national football, rugby and cricket teams. At international matches, flags and scarves bearing this cross are worn and people paint it on their faces. It is also has a prominent place on the arms of the City of London and the flags of the city of Barcelona, Spain, and the country of Georgia.

Dry "G" explained

Gangrene is the medical term used to describe the death of an area of the body. It develops when the blood supply is cut off to the affected part as a result of various processes, such as infection, vascular (pertaining to blood vessels) disease, or trauma. Gangrene can involve any part of the body; the most common sites include the toes, fingers, feet, and hands.
Two major types of gangrene exist:

Dry gangrene is caused by a reduction of blood flow through the arteries. It appears gradually and progresses slowly. In most people, the affected part does not become infected. In this type of gangrene, the tissue becomes cold and black, begins to dry, and eventually sloughs off. Dry gangrene is commonly seen in people with blockage of arteries (arteriosclerosis) resulting from increased cholesterol levels, diabetes, cigarette smoking, and genetic and other factors.
The stages are similar to wet gangrene, except there is no infection, pus, wetness, or crackly-feeling skin because there is no gas production in the uninfected tissue. There are many diseases that may lead to dry gangrene; the most common are diabetes, arteriosclerosis, and tobacco addiction (smoking). Infrequently, dry gangrene can occur quickly, over a few hours to days, when a rapid arterial blockage occurs (for example, an arterial blood clot suddenly occludes a small artery to a toe). Dry gangrene often produces cool, dry, and discolored appendages (sometimes termed "mummified") with no oozing fluid or pus, hence the term "dry."

     Shalom, shalom

ENGLISH:
Farewell, good friends!
Farewell, good friends!
Shalom, shalom!
Till we meet again,
till we meet again,
shalom, shalom.

1) Shalom means peace, wholeness, complete
2) Chaverim means friends
3) L’hitraot להתראות

L’hitraot has come to mean goodbye…well, sort of. You see, in Hebrew there is no literal way to say goodbye (how profound is that). It is used in a more casual way to say goodbye instead of shalom (which is also used today as a greeting or parting, yet shalom does not mean either hello or goodbye.)

L’hitraot expresses much more than goodbye. It is based on the Biblical Hebrew word רָאָה ra’ah which means: to see. It literally means: “till we see each other again” and embodies the desire to never part permanently.

Therefore they lyrics of Shalom Chaverim are saying, “be safe, be complete, be whole and at peace my friends until we meet again.”

The emphasis is that we WILL meet again!

Expected/Planned Home End of Life Forms

The province of British Columbia developed the Joint Protocol For Expected/Planned Home Deaths in British Columbia (PDF, 635KB) to support individuals to die at home with their families or caregivers.

The Protocol provides guidance to individuals at the end of their lives, families, and health care providers on how to have an expected/planned natural home death. It provides clarity to roles, responsibilities, and activities involved in a home death. For more information on the Joint Protocol speak to your community nurse, family physician or see How to Arrange for Care.

If you wish to plan an expected natural home death, please review the following forms and information:

A No Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) form (PDF) is required to document an individual's wishes and a physician’s order to withhold CPR.
A Notification of Expected Death in the Home form (PDF, 67KB) is completed by the patient’s physician and sent to the funeral home before the death. This form allows a Funeral Director to remove a body from a home without pronouncement of death. Pronouncement of death is not required by BC law, although it is widely recognized that pronouncement is sound clinical and ethical practice for nurses and physicians. There may be circumstances when pronouncement is difficult or families choose to waive pronouncement.
If a person dies in British Columbia, the death must be registered with the Vital Statistics Agency. A Medical Certificate of Death form is completed by the physician within 48 hours after a death. The medical certificate of death is forwarded to the funeral director who will register the death. The funeral director can then issue a death certificate and burial permit.
Additional Questions and Answers (PDF, 321KB) about expected/planned home deaths.

The Joint Protocol is the result of collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Health, health authorities, BC Ambulance Service, the Office of the Chief Coroner, BC Medical Association, BC College of Physicians and Surgeons, BC Hospice Palliative Care Association, College of Registered Nurses of BC, Funeral Service Association of BC, RCMP “E” Division, (former) BC Health Association, BC Care Providers Association, and BC Municipal Police Chiefs Association.

In boxing, a weight class is a standardized weight range for boxers.

The lower limit of a weight class is equal to the upper weight limit of the class below it.

The top class, with no upper limit, is called heavyweight in professional boxing and super heavyweight[1] in amateur boxing.

A boxing match is usually scheduled for a fixed weight class,

and each boxer's weight must not exceed the upper limit.

Although professional boxers may fight above their weight class, an amateur boxer's weight must not fall below the lower limit.[2] A nonstandard weight limit is called a catch weight.

A professional boxer typically weighs more between fights than at the time of a fight. Part of the process of training for a bout is "getting down to fighting weight". The weigh-in takes place the day before the fight. Boxers typically stand on the scales barefoot and without gloves. The weigh-in is often a photo opportunity and boxers or their entourage may trash talk each other.

This element is such a valued part of the build-up that heavyweight boxers go through the ritual of being weighed even though there is no limit to be measured against, even where there appears to be genuine animosity between boxers.

May the light of the candles we kindle together tonight bring radiance to all who still live in darkness.

May this season, marking the deliverance of our people from Pharaoh, rouse us against anyone who keeps others in servitude.

In gratitude for the freedom we enjoy, may we strive to bring about our own liberation and the liberation of all people everywhere.

Lighting these candles, we create the sacred space of the Festival of Freedom; we sanctify the coming-together of our community.

Tonight we have acknowledged our ancestors.

We vow that we will not allow their stories, their experiences, their wisdom to fade. These are our legacy, which we will study and teach to our friends and children.

The task of liberation is long, and it is work we ourselves must do.
