God Guides Us and Holds Us

Wishing to encourage her young son's progress on the piano, a mother took her boy to a Paderewski concert. After they were seated, the mother spotted an old friend in the audience and walked down the aisle to greet her.

Seizing the opportunity to explore the wonders of the concert hall, the boy rose and made his way through a door marked "No Admittance." When the house lights dimmed and the concert was about to begin, the mother returned to her seat and discovered her child missing. Suddenly the curtains parted and there seated at the impressive Steinway piano sat her child innocently picking out "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star."

At that moment the piano master made his entrance, quickly moved to the piano and whispered in the boy's ear, "Don't stop. Keep playing." Then leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in the bass part. Soon his right arm reached to the other side of the child, and he added a running obbligato.

Together, the old master and the young novice transformed a frightening situation into a wonderful creative experience. The audience was so mesmerized that they couldn't recall what else the great master played. Only the classic "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star."

That's the way it is with God. We cannot accomplish anything on our own of any lasting significance, beauty or value. Even the rearing of our children requires the Master's touch and our dependence on Him! In the coming weeks, months and years ahead as you parent, let me encourage you to hear His voice whispering through His Word, saying "Don't stop. Keep playing. Keep praying." Know that His strong hands are there enabling you to turn your feeble attempts into a masterpiece!

Finally, as we begin to see the immature fruit bud and start to develop, be diligent in giving it your upmost care and attention. Become a fruit inspector. Certainly not in a harsh or over critical way, but as a loving husbandman who desires to produce the finest fruit knowing that Jesus said: "I am the true vine, and My father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit......Abide in Me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in Me. If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you. By this, My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, so you shall be My disciples." John 15:1-8

May the Lord bless our efforts as we nurture and grow up these little ones in His name!

Gardening Tips

1. You and your spouse must "be on the same page" and present a united front! Children are masters of "divide and conquer."

2. Pay attention to what behaviors you are rewarding and what you are punishing! Remember, you will get more of what you reward and less of what you punish!

3. Be CONSISTENT! If you are inconsistent you are teaching your child 1. to be manipulative 2. to be emotional 3. to be more willful and 4. more persistent in getting what they want.

There is a pattern here......you are inconsistent because you feel guilty, because you desire peace for the moment, or you are too tired/lazy to do what you know that you should do! If you do not discipline in the present, you cripple in the future! Reward good behavior 100% of the time and punish bad behavior 100% of the time.

Inconsistentcy makes you unbelievable and you lose credibility! When you lose credibility, you lose control and before you know it you are yelling, screaming and making all kinds of threats. Remember, anger does not produce results.......action does! You must stop undesirable behavior early and do NOT allow it to escalate.

4. Speak with authority! Who is in charge?

5. If you think that discipline might cause your child not to like you, you have handed over the control button.

6.Teach responsibility.

7.And finally balance correction with praise!

Part 2 How Does Your Garden Grow.

What do the weeds look like that may be growing in my child's heart? Weeds come in many shapes and sizes and the gardener/parent must be ever watchful to remove them before they gain a foothold. These weeds are disobedience, unreliablity, selfishness, dishonesty and deception, laziness, lack of self-control, disrespect, ungratefulness, covetousness, contentiousness, being self-absorbed and impatience. Take seriously these early years! Do not ignore, excuse or coddle the weeds! Left unchallenged, they will soon take over and choke out the good fruit.

Let's get back to the garden. Both fruitful parenting and fruitful gardening require being constantly on your knees! God is sovereign and the results of our labors are ultimately in His hands, but we are responsible and will be held accountable. If you realize that you need help in this area go first to the Lord, then to His Word and finally to a godly model who is willing to guide you as you parent.

So allow me to ask you the question......."How does your garden grow?" Ask yourself 1) what are my goals for this child 2) are my goals the same as God's goals 3) what do I want to see in my adult child? We must learn to parent with a view of the future! Remember that you are not raising a child, you are raising an adult who will someday have to function in the real world! I often have parents tell me that their goal for their child is for him to be happy. Happiness is an emotion! Emotions such as fear, anger, sadness and happiness are temporary feelings; easily influenced, fickle and changeable at a moments notice. Emotions are real and God-given. They are part of who we are.

Character, on the other hand, speaks of one's moral conduct, ethics, virtue and conduct of life. Character is a heart issue such as: honesty, self-control, responsibility, and patience. Unlike emotions, character speaks of who you are day in and day out. Character equals core values. If your goal is a happy child, you will end up parenting the emotions rather than developing Christ-like character in your child! Do not let the emotion driven tears and tantrums of childhood divert your attention from your God-given goal of developing character rather than pampering temporary emotional outbursts.

Once our goals are in view and established, we need to ask ourselves.......1) what is the plan to reach the established goals 2) whose plan should I follow? Obviously, our culture offers a plan that leads to destruction. God's plan for us and our children is that we reflect Him by displaying Christ-like character. God's plan will always succeed and will always produce sweet fruit. We can be encouraged when we reflect on the fact that God is faithful despite our unfaithfulness.

Remember, it takes time to establish a beautiful garden and it takes time to raise a godly adult. We must stick to God's plan, not be overwhelmed and take it one step at a time. After the goals and plan are settled, it is time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. There will be years spent tilling the soil, plowing up the stony places, sowing good seed, protecting the tender shoots, pruning the dead wood and removing the weeds that constantly try to spring up. You must be patient with the process but completely dependent on the Master Gardener's life-giving Spirit to bless your efforts. Be patient with the process, but never be patient with unacceptable behavior.

"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. Let us not grow weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not."

How Does Your Garden Grow?

During these dark, cold days of winter I am encouraged by the knowledge that before long, we will enjoy the beauty of another spring and another opportunity to spend time in the garden. In so many ways, gardening is a great deal like parenting and growing a child into a God-honoring adult. When they are well tended both a child and a garden are beautiful things to behold! They produce abundant, sweet fruit, great pleasure, joy and contentment. In contrast, the child or garden left to itself is soon overgrown with weeds. The flowers have been choked out, the potential beauty lost and the fruit, if any, is of very poor quality.

I remember a comment my father made many years ago. During a storm, several limbs from a pine tree, very close to the house had fallen and damaged the roof. After inspecting the broken slate and considering the costly repair, he said, "You know, 20 years ago I could have removed that pine seedling with two fingers, but I ignored the potential danger and allowed the seedling to grow, to spread out its roots and to become firmly rooted." The sins of our children are just like that seedling. This is the time to uproot potential problems. Please understand that patterns or habits that are established in childhood will most likely continue into adult life without divine intervention. A whiney child will be a whiney adult. An out of control child will be an out of control teen and an out of control adult. Do not be deceived, sin and rebellion escalate and childhood problems DO NOT improve with time. The diligent training of our little ones, or the lack of training, impacts their future and our own.

I have friends today who failed to discipline their children when they were young and often told me that I was expecting too much of my own children. Our children are now adults and these friends of yesterday are deeply saddened by their parenting results and have told me how they wish they had another chance, but it is too late and they cannot go back and fix their broken lives......they ignored the potential danger and allowed their sinful habits to become firmly rooted. They never asked themselves, "What will these "weeds" look like in 10-20 years if left unchecked?"

Part 4 Training Children in Godliness

Thriftiness versus Extravagance

Luke 16:11-12 "If you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous mammon, who will entrust the true riches to you? And if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?"

Does your child spend his money and YOUR money wisely? Does he give to the work of the church? Teach him that everything belongs to God and comes to us from the hand of our loving Father. Teach him that we have a responsibility to give as well as to conserve both our material and natural resources.

Boldness versus Fearfulness

2 Timothy 1:7-8 "God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline."

Does he possess a boldness in his stand for Christ and His holiness or is there a willingness to be swayed by peers in the wrong directions?

Some children can have a tendency to be a little shy when they are young. Even though it may be a little uncomfortable at first, insist that they speak when spoken to by others. Never speak for your child, and never excuse their behavior by saying, "He is shy."

After reviewing this partial list of character traits, let us consider that Genesus 5:3 and many other passages in God's Word remind us that the character of the parents is often reproduced in their offspring! The Lord has often brought me to the realization that my own sins are those that I see in my children. The very thing that irates me the most is the very sin that I am struggling with in my own life! We must be aware that the value system and life style which our children adopt as their own often reflects that of parents, of whom they have born witness for so many years! If there is a choice between following actions or words........actions are usually chosen, because actions reveal one's true value system.

Our personal and familial problems and the sinful way we deal with them are a result of our own sinful nature, the development of sinful living patterns and wrong teaching by precept and example. WE ARE ALWAYS teaching something!!!! Watch carefully the example that you set.

As parents who desire to raise a godly seed, we must be ever mindful of our dependence on the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word to guide and direct as we parent. We must parent out of thankfulness and continually pray for His wisdom and perseverance. 2 Timothy 3:16 reminds us that: "All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." The book of Proverbs has always been a wonderful source of wisdom and encouragement to me as I parented. I would encourage you to drink deeply of its refreshing waters.

The most important advise I can give is to investigate your child's relationship to Jesus! We can talk about discipline, behavioral change and acceptable conduct, but unless the heart of both parent and child has been touched by the life changing work of the Holy Spirit, we will not see the effects that we desire. We must realize that we are responsible for, but limited to outward obedience and conformity to God's Word. Only God can deal with the heart from which comes inner obedience and conformity! This implies that we must be ever on our knees in prayer that God would perform a supernatural work that would cause our children to always be true lovers and servers of the Lord Jesus Christ! May He and He alone, bless our efforts as we raise up the next generation!

Psalm 78:1-8

" Listen, O people, to my instruction; incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel which He commanded our fathers, that they should make known to their children; that the generation to come might know them, the children who would be born, that they may arise and declare them to their children, that they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments; and may not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation , a generation that did not set its heart aright, and whose spirit was not faithful to God!"

Part 3 Training Children In Godliness

Thoroughness versus Incompleteness

Galatians 6:9 "And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary."

Does he follow through with a project from beginning to end or does he just slap at the assignments he is given both at home and at school? Is he willing to crawl under the bed for that last block or is he willing to leave it for another day? Teach him to take pride in a job well done! Mom, never accept the unacceptable!

Joyfulness versus Self-pity

Proverbs 15:13 "A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, but when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken." Does he have a sour, negative, complaining personality or does he possess a joy and a peace that passes understanding even when life my not be what he wants it to be? Have you taught him Romans 8:28 and do you demonstrate joy? Encourage singing and memory making experiences in your home.

Respect for Authority versus Disrespect

Ephesians 6:2-3 Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise) that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth." Does he act as if everything and everyone has been placed on this earth to serve his purposes? How does your child talk to you? What kind of looks does he give you? Watch tones of voices and facial expressions as well as actual words. Tones and expressions paint a vivid picture of the heart and attitudes. He may be sitting down on the outside, but standing up and waving his fist on the inside! Teach manners........please, thank you, yes sir, no sir, how to greet and introduce others etc.

Gratefulness versus Ungratefulness

1 Thess. 5:18 "In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus."

Does your child appreciate the everyday things you do for him or does he just expect you to fulfill your "duty" by being a constant servant in meeting his every need?

Punctuality versus Tardiness

Ecclesiastes 3:1 there is an appointed time for everything and there is a time for every event under heaven."

Does he have school work ready when it is due? Does he hold up the family when they are ready to leave? Does he finish a job within a specified period of time or does he "dawdle" with a project for hours..........what about mealtime? Teach your child that time is a precious gift and is to be used wisely.

Orderliness versus Disorganization

1 Corinthians 14:40 "Let all things be done properly and in an orderly manner."

What does you child look like? Is he clean and neat looking or does he look like a wreck? What does his room look like? Mom, Dad, are you setting a good example? What does your home look like? What does the inside of your car look like? Remember, we are always teaching! What have you taught by your example?

Contentment versus Covetousness

1Timothy 6:8 "And if we have food and covering, with these we shall be content."

Is your child truly happy with the way God is dealing with him? Is he a "whiner?" Remember, a whining child will grow up to be a whining adult! Joyfulness and contentment go hand and hand.

Forgiveness versus Rejection

Ephesians 4:32 "Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ Jesus has also forgiven you."

Little children find it so easy to forgive! Are your child's relationships with others characterized by: petty arguments, social "cliques," off again and on again friendships? Teach your children that true forgiveness means no longer continuing to dwell on the sin that was forgiven. Forgiveness is a promise not to raise the issue again to the offender, to others and to ourselves.

Holiness of Life versus Impurity

Leviticus 11:44 "I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy; for I am holy."

Watch carefully your child's choice of movies, books, internet activities, music, language and friends and their attitudes concerning them. Is he defensive? Realize that, "bad company corrupts good morals." Mothers, teach your daughters to dress modestly!

Kindness versus Contentiousness

Proverbs 26:20-21 "For lack of wood the fire goes out and where there is no whisperer, contention quiets down. Like charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindle strife."

Does your child's presence produce strife or harmony in a group? How does he get along with siblings? Do not allow fighting among siblings! If fighting is allowed, at what point do you expect it to change? Fighting siblings generally continue fighting into adulthood.

Part 2 Training Children in Godliness

I am convinced that one of the greatest problems among Christians today is the lack of Christ-like character being developed in their young! " Beware lest you forget The Lord your God by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and statutes which I am commanding you today." Deu. 6:11

We must wake up before it is too late! "Discipline your son while there is hope, and do not despise his death. Proverbs 19:18 Take the sins of your children seriously! Remember, God takes sin so seriously that He sacrificed His son to redeem us from sin! Romans 6:23 "The wages of sin is death."

As Christians who eagerly await the Christianization of the world; how far do we think our children will get with their lack of godly character in fulfilling the cultural mandate and the great commission. Using Christ as our standard, let's look at a few character traits and evaluate our children according to God's Word. Have you really considered what your goals are in raising your little ones? What do you desire to see in that grown woman or man at the end of the process? All children are being trained to go in one direction or another......."train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it!" Proverbs 22:6

Obedience versus Willfulness

2 Corinthians 10:5 "We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ."

Does he obey instantly or only after you have pressed the point and your authority? Does he argue with your requests? ANYTHING less than instant obedience is not obedience at all! This one characteristic is foundational to all others. Procrastination is rebellion! Remember, obedience was the first lesson God taught in the garden. If a child does not learn to obey his earthly father, how will he learn to obey his Heavenly Father? Using God's example in the garden: 1) lay down the rules clearly, ahead of time

2) explain the blessings and the consequences 3) enforce consistently 4) look for opportunities to praise obedience. Consistency to discipline is more important than the means of discipline. Consistency means dealing with small as well as large infractions. An act of disobedience is wrong at any time and at any place!

Responsibility versus Unreliability

Is he dependable? Does he have specific chores that he is responsible to perform (without reminding or nagging) on a daily basis? Teach your child to take responsibility for his own actions and never allow blameshifting! Romans 14:12 "So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God." Howard Hendricks once said, "We are raising a generation of children who walk around with their umbilical cords in their hands, looking for a place to plug in." Make every effort to be sure that your child is not one of them!

Generosity versus Selfishness

Is he a giver or a taker? Can he share material possessions? Can he give and take within relationships? Must he always call the shots? Does he use or manipulate others for his own good? Does he desire to share Christ? Remind him that Jesus was generous and gave the ultimate gift......His life!

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 "Now this I say, he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

Truthfulness versus Deception

Proverbs 12:22 "Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal faithfully are His delight." Truthfulness is vital to ANY relationship! Can you trust your child to tell you the truth? Remind him that those who yell, "You don't trust me!" are the very ones who have made themselves untrustworthy by past behavior. Is he sneaky? Does he exaggerat the truth? Does he tell the whole story or rearrange the facts to suit his situation? Never call a lie a "fib" or a "white lie." Lying is lying!

Flexibility versus Resistance

Colossians 3:2 "Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth."

When anticipated events don't work out, how does he handle it? Tantrums? Never give in to a tantrum and never ignore a tantrum!

Use these times to point to God's unchanging character!

Diligence versus Slothfulness

Colossians 3:23 "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men."

Is your child a daydreamer? Is he easily distracted? Can he work within a time frame? Is he lazy? Has he learned a good work ethic? Does he do his work with a cheerful attitude or does he whine and cry?

Self-control versus Self-indulgence

Proverbs 25:28 "Like a city that is broken into and without walls is a man who has no control over his spirit." Without self-control, learning in school will be hampered and a desire to feed the appetites of his own desires will rule. Begin teaching self-control at an early age! Don't jump to meet his every need. Help him to develop patience by learning to wait.

The Responsibility of Christian Parents to Train Their Children in Godliness

The subject of Biblical discipline has been a topic of conversation for centuries and has been discussed by every pastor, Christian school teacher, Christian parent and theologian that has ever lived; and so I am not here to add to what has gone on before, but to ask, "Have we done the job?"

Discipline is a way of life and involves: 1) education in God's Word, 2) training to do His will, 3) chastisement to correct errors and 4) encouragement to spur us on to more perfect obedience.

Biblical discipline is the LABOR to bring God's authority to bear on our children. Discipline means work; it means sustained daily effort. "Now therefore, my sons, hearken unto me; for blessed are they that keep My ways. Hear instruction and be wise and refuse it not. Proverbs 8:32-33

Discipline does not come overnight. We live in an instant age where we tend to expect things to happen quickly and we often throw in the towel before the job is done. Lack of discipline in both ourselves and our children comes from giving up! It is not enough to know what God requires and, at times, apply that word according to our moods or feelings. Living according to one's feelings is the greatest hinderence to our goal of godliness that we face. When we live and act according to our feelings, we are extremely inconsistent, and such inconsistentcy leaves a child totally confused, it sends the message that there are no absolutes, Mom and Dad do not mean what they say and it encourages a testing spirit in the child. We must discipline consistently! You MUST say what you mean and mean what you say! Whenever you lay down a rule, it must be enforced.

We as parents are commanded to know God's Word and to apply Biblical discipline daily toward the goal of true godliness. God has placed the responsibility of providing discipline primarily on parents; not the church, not the Christian school, not a nanny or other such individual. We must be so keenly aware of our goal and responsibility before God that Everything that happens Sunday to Sunday should contribute toward the goal that God has set before us.

Our authority is delegated to us from God so we must be careful to watch all influences of parent delegated authority and supply our young with godly models. Deuteronomy 6 implies that everyone who comes in contact with your children especially you, should be a godly role model; that includes those who educate in the classroom, sitters that spend time in your home, scout leaders, athletic coaches, anyone who spends time with your child! 1 Thess. 5:21-22 Examine everything carefully, hold fast to that which is good, abstain from every form of evil.

We know and agree that we have a direct command from God: "Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, The Lord is one! And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I am commanding you today shall be on your heart, and you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontally on your forehead. And you shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates." Deu.6:4-9

The Lord has set before us a goal.......1Tim. 4:7-8 "Discipline yourselves for the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."

Allow me to ask, Are we as Christian parents meeting our God-given responsibility to carry out the command of Deu. 6 in order to reach the goal set forth in 1 Tim. 4? With Christ as our standard, let me suggest that we examine the product.......our children.

Today we are celebrating the 101st day of school and celebrating we did! Everyone came dressed as a Dalmation and brought 101 "items" to show and tell.........what fun! We played "dog games" and ate dog bone cookies for a special treat!

Cherish These Years!

Everyone who has raised or is presently raising a young family will agree that these are demanding years, and yet as I look back on my own experience, I see them as some of the sweetest times of my life. In the moment, I imagined that I would be changing diapers, doing homework, and driving carpool forever! My days were exhausting and I often fell into bed late at night only to rise early in order to repeate the same, never ending chores the next day. I see more clearly in hindsight and now know that the time was actually so very brief and I cherish the memories.

My advice to young mothers is to never allow the busyness of these early years to rob you of the fact that during this period you are your child's greatest influence and principle teacher. God has given this unique window of opportunity, not only to train them to be people of righteous character, but to nurture the spiritual life of you child.

While spending time together in God's Word and teaching Biblical truths is supremely important, your influence will also be felt by your daily walk before your child. There is an old saying that says,"What you do speaks so loudly, that I cannot hear what you say." Remember, it is a tremendous witness for your child to see their parent's walk and talk match up! An authentic relationship with God, played out in everyday life is your most powerful witness and will influence your children beyond this life into eternity.

Christmas Celebrated

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16

Jesus said, "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly".........a complete life full of purpose. John 10:10

But there is a problem.....man is sinful and that sin separates us from God. We have all done, thought and said bad things, which the Bible calls "sin." The Bible says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 The result of sin is death, spiritual separation from God. Romans 6:23

But there is good news! God sent His Son to die for our sins! Jesus died in our place so that we could live with Him in eternity! But the story does not end at the cross. It ends at an empty tomb! Jesus rose from the dead and lives today!

This is the Christmas story. This is what we celebrate this time of the year. May you too find God's peace and restoration at we rejoice in the birth of a Savior! Merry Christmas!

The Pilgrims left England and went to Holland because they wanted to be able to worship God as they pleased, but life in Holland was hard and after 12 years they sailed on the Mayflower to America!

We tried on wooden

shoes at school today to see just how they would feel......oh, our aching feet!

As Christian parents we want to teach our children to turn early and often to God's Word. We want them to think God's words after Him and, more importantly to apply it to their hearts and lives. This marvelous book will direct you to the Biblical instructions on how to deal with everyday issues like: anger, complaining, sharing, discipline, self- centeredness and many more.

Christopher Columbus

Today is Columbus Day and we have been learning about this very special man. We learned about his deep faith in God and his desire to export Christianity to lands across the globe. Christopher was equally interested in a new trade route. At the end of the 15th century, it was nearly impossible to reach Asia from Europe by land. The route was long and arduous and encounters with hostile armies were difficult to avoid.

But Columbus had another idea: Why not sail across the Atlantic instead of around the African continent? The young man's logic was good, but his math was faulty. On August 31492, Columbus and his crew set sail from Spain in three ships. On October 12, 1892, the ships made landfall- not in Asia, as Columbus assumed, but in the Bahamian Islands. Today, Christopher Columbus is remembered as a great man of faith and a daring explorer who transformed the New World!

I'm a little cow poke brave and true

These are the things I like to do.

I put on my hat, I put on my vest,

I put on my belt so I look my best.

I ride my pony and rope my steer

And sleep in my bunk when night is near!

We are gearing up for the Fall Festival which is coming up on October 12th. In anticipation of that fall fun, we left our uniforms in the closet this morning and wore western gear to school. Don't they look adorable?

I wish I had a butter churn

Like those used long ago.

So in my kitchen I could have

A butter-making show.

I love sweet butter - yes, it's true!

But churning's such a chore.

Instead, I'll put it on my list

And buy some at the store!

Today we made butter in our class.
