Sheringham

2013-05-07T19:53:00.000+01:00

For my space and place module I've been visiting Sheringham. I've looked at a few different ideas : Human traces, Textures, Decay and History, I'm not sure where this projects going to end at the moment but so far I'm quite pleased with some of the photographs I've taken.

Although these pictures need a little work on them, I'm so pleased with them as I feel they give the desired effect I was going for. I really like the fact that by looking at the photographs that this is a seaside location, but you don't know which one... well you do because I told you at the start of the post.

Camera Obscura Takeover

2012-10-03T21:03:00.000+01:00

Definition of camera obscura : a darkened enclosure in which images of outside objects are projected through a small aperture or lens onto a facing surface.

How we did it ?

Step 1. find a suitable room which you can black out, but there is still a window so you can make an aperture.

Step 2. black out the room, covering the window with black card cut a small circle about the size of a Vaseline tin. And a little paper flap to cover the hole, but will be able to attach back to uncover the hole.

Step 3.turn the lights out, and uncover the aperture(hole). the light from outside will then project the objects from outside onto the walls. Remember that the images projected onto the walls will be back to front, so what will be on the left if you where looking out the window will be projected onto the right and visa versa.

Exposing your image

Step 4.Cover up your aperture, so that you don't expose your paper before its ready. turn off the lights

Step 5.Tape up your paper to your selected position, depending on how much light there is depends on how long you should expose your paper for, so the less the light the longer you expose the paper for, the more light the less you expose the paper for.

Step 6. in our case we exposed our paper for 2 mins, so lift the paper flap from over the aperture for two minutes.and cover back up.

Step 7.once the exposure is taken down and placed in a lightproof bag. Take to a dark room, and go through the process- i'm not going to go into that stage atm, but i'm sure i will do over the next couple of weeks :)

Unfortunately the quality of this image int great as i only had my phone on me, our exposure is the one on the right, with the 4 pieces, can you tell what it is ?..

I hope you've found this post interesting, and that it has made you want to try your own! its not hard and would only take you about an hour once you've got the materials you need!

The Ipswich Project.

2012-10-02T20:22:00.000+01:00

Whoooo my first official day at Uni was yesterday, and well minus the rain it was pretty good. We were set what I thought was going to be a fairly easy task to settle us in, but actually it turned out to be harder than i initially thought.
Aim of the task - Take 6 photographs relating to the following statements
1.Things in a long line
2.A bad smell
3.A smile
4.A red ball
5.An ugly photograph
6.A meaningless photograph.
So overall I'd say these would seem pretty obvious on what to do, but we wanted to think out the box and do something a little different. Although when it came round to taking the pictures we struggled a little for what to take for number 5 and 6 because what is an ugly picture, what one person may find ugly another may find beautiful ?.. and as for a meaningless photo does that mean it has no meaning to you or the object in the image has no meaning? so after a Long cuppa hot chocolate in costa, we got onto the task ahead and off out in the rain we went! And if at first you don't succeed try and try again. Three hours later, the photos are taken and printed off, ready for critique on Friday! Wish me luck ... Can you guess which picture goes with which statement ?.. Im off now but if you're ever need a little project to get your brain working, this is a nice one to try, ask a fellow student, your mum or dad to write a list or even use mine and see what you come up with!

Guess who I had a little chat with.

2012-09-19T17:03:00.000+01:00

Some of you may have heard of Darren Heath, hes a professional photographer, specializing in formula one and is well known for his unique style of work.
I was luck enough to ask him a few questions back in January, Photography related of course and unfortunately due to me being lame didn't get round to posting it. so now I've got some time to kill I thought id let you hear what he had to say.
I hope you enjoy hearing his responses as much as i did.

1.When did you start taking photographs ? I first owned a camera when I was about 13/14 years old.

2.What made you focus on formular one photography ? I loved motor sport and once I'd discovered the joy of photography it was a natural decision to marry the two. F1 – as the pinnacle of the sport – naturally became the focus and goal once I decided to pursue a career as a photographer.

3.How did you get started in the business? Badgered agencies covering F1 to give me a job as a black and white printer. I started in Jan'88 and then endeavored to prove I was worthy of covering races for the company. I shot my first foreign gp at the German event in July '89.

4.How did you develop your style? It's just the way I like to shoot. I'm not interested in shooting f1 in a conventional and possibly boring fashion. F1 is a wonderfully photogenic sport and worthy of far better photographic coverage than most shooting the sport give it.

5.Do you use one or more camera's at a time ? Always at least two cameras.

6.You've travelled to many different race tracks which has been your favourite ? I love Monza, Monaco, Montreal, Sepang, Singapore and Suzuka equally. All circuits have both good and bad elements.

7.Whats your favourite photograph you've taken and why? I haven't taken it yet! Really one likes different pictures for differing reasons. I'm always trying to improve and have other photographers and Directors of Photography (in the movie industry) that I admire and take inspiration from.

8.Why is photography important to you? Apart from my family, health etc, etc, photography is the most important thing in my life. I've strived for almost 30 years to be where I am now only ever really keen to be regarded by my peers to be one of the foremost photographers in my field.

9.What advice would you give anyone intrested in becoming a photographer? Find a style you like, practice, practice and practice some more. Only show your best work and don't shoot for free. Your work has worth and one should never forget that. Set a low price/standard now and you'll be forever trying to increase it.

Sunday was the christening of the gorgeous Crystal-Mae, and oh my she looked yummy. I took this opportunity to take lots of pictures and get more experience of photographing in a church, as i personally feel its a really hard location to shot, due to the lighting, plus all the different rules. Luckily I've already shot a wedding in the church so i had a rough idea on what the lighting was like and the best spots to stand, ect. anyway onto the pictures, cause I'm pretty sure that's why your reading.

I told you she was very yummy! - shes such a easy to work with little girl as she has a huge personality that shines through, and i cant wait to capture her growing up over the years.

Portfolio pictures.

2012-09-12T14:57:00.000+01:00

So i just realized I'd posted about my Ipswich interview going really well, but didn't include any pictures that where included in my portfolio so i thought id put some up now.
One of the main themes inside my portfolio was telling stories through photographs, Although the exact story behind the images isn't obvious if you read between the lines it becomes more apparent.

I personally feel that as single images these may not be very interesting, but put together in group of three they reflect each other to create interesting stories.

So unless you cant guess from the title of this post I've been to NEW YORK CITY! It was quite a while ago now and I cant believe I haven't posted about it already, it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! Firstly I'd like to thank my parents for helping me get the money together to go, and my darling friends for an amazing time while we where out there!

While in New York we visited The Empire State Building at o'clock in the morning, I took this opportunity to do some experimental photography with the lights, and I'm really pleased with the outcome of these photos.

Good News.

2012-03-01T16:51:00.000+00:00

I got my first uni offer yesterday, a conditional from ucs-Ipswich to do photography, im so excited the interviewer said i had natural talent and that he couldn't wait to work with me on the course! YAYAY.

2012-02-07T08:49:00.000+00:00

Okay so I've just recently started a 5 week project. That I worked with my teachers to come up with a project brief . The final outcome was that I will be working on Indirect portraits, using objects in particular their favourite things. I'm also working along the theme of triptych (three). to create an interesting series of images.

I wanted the images to make the view consider what they think the person is like, as I feel that people are judged by what they look like ?
Just cause your a punk rocker does that mean you cant like knitting?
just cause you wear dresses does that mean you cant play football ?

Next time you see someone you think looks different, think about what their personality might be like and don't just judge them on what they look like.

A Little Nothing

2011-11-23T09:10:00.000+00:00

Just a quick little edit I did, for part of my photography work shop, to go along with my trio of images created in different ways. This is my Digitally created image.

My 1st Wedding.

2011-11-09T21:31:00.000+00:00

Here's a few shots I got from a dear friends wedding, which I was asked to be photographer. I got some truly beautiful images which I'm really happy with the outcome of , and I'm really pleased to say the happy couple were too.

Sunday Service.

2011-11-09T11:50:00.001+00:00

Here's the picture I originally wanted to upload of the church I visited last week.

The church was destroyed in march this year, after being empty for 10 years, it had just recently been brought and the process of converting it into a community centre had just begun. Sadly the current owners did not have insurance for the Listed Church, so all the money invested in the project is lost.

Since the destruction of the church, it has been used by squatter to live in and is in such a poor state, with evidence that is it being used as a crack house, with needles, tin foil and other evidence that class A drugs are being used inside. While being shown around the church, a young girl and boy, turned up, to prove this evidence, luckily they left on the owners demand and didn't cause problems.

I personally felt that it was very peaceful in the main part of the church, as it was so quiet, with pray books on the floor I could image a Sunday service being taken.

This little birdy didn't last too long.

Even after it was dead.

Willow ate it.

Ew.

I should have really cropped these all to the same size. but oh well.. ha.

The Skies The Limit

2011-10-20T19:40:00.001+01:00

So this evening the sky has been so beautiful so I took the time to go out and take some pictures,

the colours haven't been as nice as it has been the past couple of days

but the cloud form was truly amazing.

Here's the original image, I really love the light orange tones in contrast with the dark foreground.

I edited this by turning the image black and white and adjusting the tones slightly. I really like this image as the middle cloud formation stands out.

what do you guys think ?..

Everything Noughties!

2011-10-19T13:35:00.000+01:00

A new project!

So over half term we're been set a project to research a given year, im sure you can guess i got the noughties! and im so excited ! The year of my Favourite band S club 7!, the best films Harry Potter, Uggs have come into fashion and my feet have never been so warm in the winter. Good Times.
Although we shouldnt forget all the events that are less fortunate , such as the london bombings, the attack on the world trade buildings, plus the death of many iconic Celebrities.
We have been asked to produce a sketchbook, built up of reseach and drawings based around the era given, so to prepare for this task i have come up with a list including, historical events, the music indusrty, fashion, media, and art movements.

Any way this must be prettty boring and i have no pictures to post on this so im gonna leave it here and post about something new soon!

Chilli Skeleton

2011-10-14T20:26:00.000+01:00

So the story behind this picture I hear you ask ?..

Well ill start from the beginning, My Dad, has well to say the least a very large farm of chili plants that he grows, built up of many different varieties, Including , Paper Lanterns, Habanero, Bhut Jolokia, Scotch Bonnets and that's just naming a few! I'd be here all evening if I tried listing them all.

So my Dads a moderator of a forum called Fire Foods, (which unfortunately you have to join to look on, but I will post the link in-case you fancy joining.) So anyway, being it almost Halloween, they set up a competition for the members to design a Halloween inspired 3D model like a jack'o'lantern, but you could present it in your own way. As soon as my Dad told me about it, this idea popped into my head and I had to do it!.. I think I got a little over excited about playing with chilli's, but I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. So anyway if you Fancy having a go and a chance to win some Sauces, then log on and see what you can do :) I'm sure they'd love to see what some of you can come up with :) If you've not got some chilli's to play around with why not try different vegetables ? everyday ones Carrots, Potatoes, Brussels sprouts.. the possibilities are endless and I'd sure love to see what you guys can come up with.

Happy Blogging!

My T-shirt.

2011-10-05T10:09:00.001+01:00

Firstly id like to apologise about the poor quality of the picture, I took it on my phone, but will defiantly be doing a photo shoot very soon!

Well after lots of hard work my t-shirt is finally done! YAYAYAY..

Yesterday I spent the afternoon in the print room, printing my T-shirts. I found it a fairly easy process, you have to print off your original image and scan it a few times- as you can only use the picture once..

you then place your chosen image onto the fabric upside down, and use screen wash to wipe across the image- this releases the ink from the picture, which makes the print. You then lay a piece of paper and plate(a think sheet of metal) over the print then cover with the over fabric on the press and roll over the images, once it have been completely flattened, you remove all the outer materials, so you will be left with your t-shirt and the images you wiped over, you then take the images off and you should be left with a print of the image, you then leave it to dry, And your t-shirt is done :D

I'm really pleased with the outcome of my t-shirt, I think the middle image really stands out on the white t-shirt between the black and white images. I also really like how the image quality isnt perfect as it gives a really nice worn effect.

Im hopeing to print off a few more copies of this T-shirt but with a different arangement of images on it, to see what looks good and just so I have some future refrenece to say that I experimented with different arrangements.

What do you think ?.

Lets chuck around paint.

2011-10-01T14:44:00.001+01:00

So on glorious Wednesday, i spent the day with my beautiful friend Tyler, producing some well to say the least amazing pictures( I'm not being big headed honest).
It was a artistic masterpiece, I'm so happy with the outcome!, and cant wait to get using them for my t-shirt printing... SO EXCITED. i may have to start my own clothing line.. all my friends have put in demands to have a t-shirt printed.. so i better get started soon otherwise I'm gonna have some disappointed friends.

ahh look I'm going on about my t-shirt printing and haven't told you about thing about the design or what we did Wednesday.. so basically, i had a field trip chucking paint around.. in an artistic manner of course!..

So i made a makeshift back drop out of a white bed sheet in my friends back garden and created my little outside studio.. sadly i had to borrow her cannon as i had planned to do it at my house but missed the bus so did it in Ipswich instead.. i missed using my Nikon as i know how to use it better.. but anyway.. once all set up we got to the fun part...

i splatter my friend with paint over her clothes one colour at a time and took pictures as the colours layered to get an awesome effect.. i then cropped the images down to make them the size i wanted and well i think they look fab! here are two of the hundreds of images I've got to choose from...

what do you think ?..

happy blogging,

My Watermark.

2011-09-20T12:37:00.002+01:00

As requested by my father, i was told to make a watermark for my images, so people cant just take them and claim as their own...

so this morning on arrival to college early i got onto the case, and made a simple one for now, as I'm no pro.. but I'm sure with a little persistance i can make a better one..

so you can faintly see my watermark on this image of my little sister- shes sucha cutie!

The tour of Britain

2011-09-17T17:55:00.000+01:00

So today, the T.O.B came through Hadleigh, it was a very exciting morning with lots of people gathering in the streets to cheer along the cyclist, there is also many events going on in the town, a bouncy castle in the kings head, and a beer festival in the George with a hog roast and some fine ciders.. (I tried a few last night). so any way the 1st group of riders came through Hadleigh at about 11:10..

unfortunately due to me gibbering on to much i missed the 2nd group of rider :( silly me.. but i did get a few picture of some of the tracking cars and police motorbikes that followed them.

Then 6 minutes and 30 seconds later the final group of riders followed, with the spare bikes and ambulances following.

All in all it was a nice morning spent , and i got a few good pictures, and another bonus the Hadleigh People asked me to email some of my shots over, so hopefully that will get me a bit better known.. & hopefully if they are good enough put on their website.. so fingers crossed!
Happy Days
xx

Adobe Illustrator.

2011-09-16T09:27:00.001+01:00

if you hadnt guessed this is meant to be a crane..

i created it using adobe illustrator, with the line segment tool and the text tool.. i decided to use words based around constraction/building as i felt it was fitting for the picture. i created this image for something to do in the mornings as ive had some spare time on my hands..

im pretty pleased with the outcome and think that you can just about tell that its a crane, ill deffinatly be using this program in the future to create more images. Id definatly recomend investing in this prgram as it is great to use and easy to get around.

peace out!
