Yes, I know the calendar has already posted the start of spring, but my yard has only recently started showing some signs. It is exciting! So it made me remember to think positively and share some fun and exciting spring thoughts with you ☺.

Is spring showing signs by you?

We have no snow on the ground (right now, in Wisconsin that can change day to day). I noticed some tulips leaves poking their heads up out of the ground in the flower bed closest to the house. The trees are starting to show little nubs and buds. The skies have been alternating between sunny blue and storm cloud gray. Surprisingly the April "spring showers" have missed us so far. Just another thing that can change by the hour.

The critters have started running around and chasing each other in playful natures mating dance (you should know what that means!!) The migrating birds are slowly starting to fly over and through. Some are staying. Nest time!

It is exciting, spring is starting!
I can't wait until the colors, feathers and sounds of spring are in full swing.
It is exciting!!

St. Patrick's day is almost here.
Will you wear green so you don't get pinched?
Do you do a "pub crawl"? I like the color of green beer, but I am not much of a drinker. But if you enjoy it, enjoy, but get yourself a designated driver!

That would be one "hot" pot of gold to find!

The St. Patrick's Day celebrations start early in some some places!

Our first winter white out of the season

Winter weather has been early this year. Darn cold! Brrrrr
I know in other parts of the U.S. weather has been worse than where I live (different for a change) but it is still colder than normal much earlier this year. As if last years freeze out and record snow falls weren't enough, this year is starting to show signs of worse things to come. I'm not one bit happy about it either. As if you haven't noticed from me by now, cold weather and I do not mix! It has never been a favorite, not even as a kid, who many hope for snow days, I did not want the snow or cold, just the days off, LOL.

Below is some of November 24 winter white out in my area...

we had just gotten home from driving in this white out

and our tire tracks are already covered

The good news is that we had enough sun and just barely over freezing temperatures to thaw it out and is no where in site. For the moment. As here in Wisconsin weather can turn around in a minute and slap you again.

I am thankful that hubby and I are relatively healthy this year, that we have the blessings of a roof over our heads and running heat to keep us warm. Thankful for the humble meal we will share together.

Although are sons and their families are to far away for us to visit, we are thankful they are happy, healthy and always have our love.

The Great Pumpkin Hunt!

I have seen the fields and yards full of pumpkins,
not to long ago.
Little kids and adults alike scurrying to and fro searching for the special gourd. A few brave Jack-O-Lanterns are still in view. Some just laying around sunning themselves in the sparse autumn sunshine, others trying hard to cling to the vine or hide behind dried crumpled foliage. The great pumpkin hunt has been going on for weeks and is slowing down as Halloween approaches.

Chill is in the air,
cold nights paint colors on the leaves,
frost will soon kiss the pumpkins,

My grape vine and hops covered spooky tree is starting to dress its last finest before going into winters slumber.
Shall we gaze upon harvests call of color changes?

look close and you can see the tiny roots left on the tree itself

We have had a few sunny fall days surrounded by mostly cold, wet and gray signs of winters dregs soon to come. The nips of chill has slowly been changing the greens of summer into the glorious colors of autumn before they fall into masses on the ground.

Hops towards autumn

The signs of autumn are appearing.
The chill in the air has arrived early. Early enough that we had to turn on the heat.
That does not make me happy.
With the cooler and wet summer there is lots of vegetation that has spouted and already falling over into moldy allergy prone heaps. Making for itchy eyes and sneezing days ahead.

One area I can show this week is the ripe hops growing in my neighbors and mine yards. Neither of us brew home-made beer, but it makes a good growing vine for shade or trailing coverage.

So lets hop on to, the autumn preview!

What's Blooming in red?

I am featuring RED this week.

I have a beautiful neon red geranium that has been blooming quite nicely this summer. It is a new variety I purchased this year from the HGTV brand called "So Amazing™". Depending on the sunlight the color is really bright.

Geranium blooms on high ...

this under-shot reminds me of a pineapple tree

the glow of the "neon" color seems to show

up better in this shot, at least to me

Attack of the flying pigs!

Attack! We are under attack!!

It is the time of year with lots of activity at our bird feeders.
Feather and fur alike are pigging out and bringing their babies, heck their whole family! The critters outside are eating better than we are inside~

Just Picked

This week we have had a few sunny days.
Most of the sun was short lived, filled with lots of clouds, dark skies and lots of rain. On a day the sun was out I braved the mosquitoes and went in search of what may be blooming or living in my yard. I found some nice surprises and decided to pick some and now I will share them with you!

Talking with your hands - bad or not so bad?

Gestures, sign language, talking with your hands ...
Do you ever talk with your hands? When you are happy, excited, angry or all the time?

I have a tendency to move my hands a lot when I talk, especially when I am excited. I am not the type to curse at others, but I may be guilty of using gestures that maybe considered bad, or not so nice ☺. I may of even inadvertently smacked someone when my hands are flailing around (oops).

I have mentioned on my blog before some of my health problems (mostly as a teaching tool) and have brought up the fact that I have arthritis, fibromyalgia and a host of other fun things to live with.

Recently, I had a visit to my rheumatologist and told him I was having a new problem with my hands. So I walked out of there wearing a fashionable splint temporarily. Who better to make fun of then yourself, so I felt like talking with my hands this week and see if anyone else out there has ever used gestures or hand signs to communicate.

Gestures or talking with your hands has been around for over a thousand years. I'm sure it most likely pre-dates the spoken word. Some particular hand signs have become very common and some are considered obscene (humm, whodda thunk?? ☺). Do you recognize any of the few I am sharing today?

So one with the show ...

The good ...

And the naughty ...

Yup, the dreaded middle finger. Also know as flipping the bird, disrespect, the swearing finger, evil or social finger. This one dates back to at least ancient Greece and Rome. Meaning mostly of what I have listed directly above and as a phallic symbol. Modern cultures have added more insult to it to make it very bad word that starts with a "F"! Horrors.

It is amazing what a few flips of your hand can mean. This is without the all the politically correct meanings of American Sign language. Maybe some of these should fall into a new sign category of outrage, slander or insulting universal language.
