F.E.M.A. was created over 40 years ago. Wikipedia offers a great breakdown of the timeline on how this organization grew and replaced a disaster insurance arm of the US Government.

This organization was mobilized many times since its creation (albeit slowly and not without controversy) and a prime example was Hurricane Katrina and the federal government response.

Let me be clear - I support the fact that the government has provided for a federal response to a disaster (of any kind). We all know from recent (the past 30 years) history that local and state governments will become overwhelmed during a disaster or emergency and outside help is needed.

That being stated...many of you may not realize the mandate and legal power that FEMA has in case of a nationwide disaster or emergency. Your rights as you know them will be altered forever! We are talking about your right to assemble - being suppressed, your right to free speech - suppressed, your right to travel - suppressed, your right to your land and possessions - suppressed!

Review these EXECUTIVE ORDERS:
Hi folks,

It has been quite some time since I last posted to this blog. Let's just say i've been doing a lot of rambling around the world.

At any rate - I'm back online and will be updating this page. I is now 2020 and 8 years ago in 2012 the political climate seems a little tame to what is going on now! A lot of fodder to dig through.

Keep in mind, I will attempt to document my source article (as long as the original article author doesn't change or delete their posting) and I will archive the original just in case I need to host it myself.

In 2020 there seems to be "alternate facts" and "fake news" so, to keep things fair I will make sure there is a backup of the original document, article and or video in case they remove it from online and the "Wayback Machine" (archive.org).
It's been a couple of days since I rambled about something, but today I ran across an article discussing how the New York Police Department (NYPD) has been conducting surveillance on Muslims not only in the City of New York but outside as well.

We are talking about spying on American citizens in other states! Not just within the Boroughs of NYC. So, should I remind everyone that the NYPD is a CITY police department and not a Federal Agency.

Here is a little background on Policing in the United States. First, police departments exist because citizens have demanded some form of order and discipline to their daily lives. Over the past century, policing has evolved to enforcing laws that citizens of that community demand. One such law is drinking and driving. Of course, this wasn't a problem in the late 18th century, but now it is and must be enforced.

Moving on to 2012! I don't remember the citizens of New York City voting at City Hall or having a public vote on surveillance authorization of its citizens. Maybe the city has taken it upon themselves to enact such regulations without public consent, using Tax payer money. Who knows.

But when a local city government decides to spy on free citizens of another state - this is called - you guessed it, a "police state". You can refer HERE for the definition of a police state!

It won't be long until this practice spreads completely across the entire United States. Citizens beware! You are now entering the zone of no return - because truthfully, this practice is already in place throughout the US.

Many new tactics and practices went into effect the day that the Patriot Act became official. One day, someone will knock on your door, Mr and Mrs Joe Public, to tell you that they will search your home or probably arrest you for not recycling bottles.

This incident is yet another example of what I stated a few days ago about why we already lost the war in Afghanistan 9 years ago. Plain and simple - lack of care and understanding for the Afghan culture and its people.

Honestly, all of the incidents that have occurred where innocent civilians have been killed by western forces was due to a lack of cultural understanding or care. Incidents like a squad of soldiers killing people and staging it as an enemy attack, to urinating on dead Afghan bodies, to burning the Koran to now killing children and families. It is sickening and totally unforgivable.

The United States Military's Public Affairs "Spin doctors" will try to calm the fury of this latest incident - but where will all the madness end? How many more people must die for this lost cause?

The Afghan people need to be left alone, supported only when they ask for it and let them carve out their own future - not OUR idea of how they should live. This culture is ancient, much older than the United States, we truly do not have a right to dictate what is normal for them.

When will the world get tired of seeing this? I feel sympathy for those families that lost their loved ones - Afghan and American. But I am even more sympathetic for those poor families that are now destroyed because some undisciplined person decided to kill. He should receive the death penalty.

Looks like my ramblings will go on today - because the wonderful political climate in our Country has given me more to talk about. So, here it goes -

Believe it or not - American's do NOT have freedom of speech! The police-state is growing stronger by the day. Did you realize you could be arrested just for wearing a sign (The story is here), not blocking access to a building, not impeding other people's freedom of movement, not saying a word, not approaching anyone - just stand there in an open area and BE ARRESTED. YEP. Only in a Police State can that happen.

Apparently there are "no speech zones" all across our great land. I don't remember that in my American History courses, or my PolySci courses or any other courses that I've taken through the years.

Yes, everyone. Your rights are all but GONE.

I sort of mentioned this in a previous blog that the U.S. was turning into a Police State, well folks, here it is! Words, or should I say lack of them, right out of the mouth of the Government.

I can't wait to see the "spin" on this. Stay tuned everyone. Feel free to comment.http://desertpeace.wordpress.com/2010/11/04/assassination-by-day/

I am a little amazed at what most people will do to have a job or go to school, but I think I'm more amazed at the direction our "beloved" American society is evolving.

The United States is turning into a police state with no rights given to its people. Don't believe me? Well, here is a great example of how piece-by-piece our society is changing. (more here if you want to read further)

Today I read a wonderful article about Government employers and some Universities DEMANDING access to their applicant's Facebook, Google +, Twitter and other social media accounts. The applicant's must provide their passwords and login details in order to be CONSIDERED.

The brazen demands that some people in our society are creating is truly remarkable, because this is exactly the same as stating, "I want to know every person you've ever know - by name, I want their pictures, personal details, I also want your diaries, personal bank account information, vacation activities, etc".

Who are they kidding? And to make matters worse, there are MORONIC people who will provide that information for FEAR of loosing a job or an opportunity. Instead, these people should take them to court. This is ILLEGAL - people. "QUID-PRO-QUO" This-for-that! Other-words - BLACKMAIL.

Of course, I can't really blame the companies and schools for trying, because if there are people willingly giving that information away - then heck, why not. In fact anyone who feels like it, please leave your logon and passwords to your social media sites for me to have access and read. Thanks!

PLEASE - people - wake up! Just say NO!

It's now official, the US is about the turn a dark corner that is nearly impossible to return. They are approving authorization to Kill US citizens they deem a threat. Of course, they are using the terms of terrorism and threat together, however the wording of the new "law" is very broad.

It doesn't take much for someone to be labeled a threat. In fact, look at the news across America and you will see on a daily basis, people labeled as a threat.

Here is my problem with this, first, an opposing opinion which is protected by the Constitution can now be considered a threat. Second, ANYONE can be put into that category which would make you subject to this new law.

Remember that the laws have been adjusted so they can SPY on americans on American soil - don't forget that. You have no right to privacy, and now are no longer considered innocent.

This new rule that the Administration is pushing through, allows anyone to be deemed guilty without the right to a trial as guaranteed under the US Constitution.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of bad people out there who are up to no good. In fact, I am sure there are many who have entered the US illegally or legally with the intent on becoming US citizens only for the prospect of later causing problems. Still, there are some who are 100% American who want to do harm and they should be arrested, tried and if guilty - then convicted in accordance with the laws of the Constitution.

We should never allow our rights as Citizens to be taken away for the illusion of security. But unfortunately, this is happening more often and so rapidly that before the majority of American's wake up to this fact it will be too late.

---Sad day!

The current financial crisis and its aftermath is still affecting millions of Americans through lower wages, lost jobs, foreclosed homes, higher food costs, and higher gas prices.

Our National debt is rapidly approaching the $16 Trillion mark - which means every US Citizen would owe around $46,000 to pay off the huge debt. Congress and many politician's are trying to figure out ways to reduce costs by cutting many programs - especially in this election year. They need to be re-elected by the way so it is wise to be on the side that is attempting to bring this debt down.

Congress failed to pass legislation this past December to reduce our Nation's debt and now automatic cuts in many programs and departments will happen. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

My only concern is they want to increase Military retiree's medical costs, reduce retirement payments to those who sacrificed their youth and in many cases sacrificed their life for our American civilization. People who have served in the US Military are unlike those in the civilian workforce. They don't have a 401 K program, they don't have the individual freedom's most American's take for granted. No freedom of speech, no union's or collective bargaining, no freedom of movement, they can't quit, etc, etc, etc.

So asking the people who have voluntarily served this Country to sacrifice more by giving up income they were promised by the American people is another slap in the face. The American people promised soldiers, airmen, marines, coast guard to serve 20 years and you can retire with lifetime - reduced income payments, lifetime medical care to fix all problems they caused, and education benefits. Very simple arrangements. Now the American people are wanting to renege on that promise. You can thank our wonderful members of Congress for this.

Back to the National debt and the matter at hand.

Members of Congress are continually influenced by organizations, individuals paying them "side-payments" or what some could call - "bribes" to pass legislation that will benefit their companies or their clients while ignoring their main responsibility - taking care of the Taxpayers who put them in office.

One prime example is the Oil industry and US Oil Companies. They receive $4 Billion dollars annually in TAX subsidies. Do you realize the top 5 most profitable companies in the world are Exxon-Mobile and Chevron? And yet they still receive US Taxpayer money in subsidies every year. Exxon is by far the biggest beneficiary of this program and in 2009 and PAID ZERO percent in corporate taxes thanks to this program.

The United States and NATO has gotten it all wrong in Afghanistan. Today there is a news article about 2 more NATO soldiers being shot by Afghans who were either Afghan military or civilians. I am truly sorry for those 2 soldiers who lost their lives in a conflict that was lost 9 years ago.

"How can you write these things?" you might be thinking! Well, here are some reasons why I believe the US has "missed-the-boat" (though, it could be on purpose) once again.

While I was in Afghanistan for grand total of 23 months, I took the time to study the history of these people, their culture, the true reason there is so much strife. I came to many conclusions that I hope will enlighten you.

First, The Afghan society is a mix of Hindi, Shia, Sunni, Western, Buddhist cultures. Since around the 7th century this culture has been mostly Muslim. It took quite some time for the Islamic teachings to take root and make the entire Afghan culture adopt the beliefs and way of life.

There are many tribes in this Country, but the majority are Pashtun. This dry, arid Country has a limited supply of water and fertile land to grow food and raise animals. This can and has caused many wars between the diverse tribes throughout the centuries over these resources. Even today, there are disputes and tribal fighting over these valuable resources.

The current problem began actually around 1947, when the British created the State of Pakistan. This single act divided the main tribal group into Afghan Pashtun's and Pakistan Pashtun's. However, the Pashtun people never recognized this boundary even now.

The society was split by political policies of the West. The western culture was forced upon these people and their beliefs were ignored.

I don't want to go into too much more detail about modern history (the Afghan-Soviet war), but the bottom line is this Country has been at war for more than 30 years. This is all they know - the children 40 years ago are now adults, and the children of today only know WAR and that the west is bad.

The problem I noticed when in Afghanistan was the total ignorance of Afghan culture by the vast majority of our US/NATO personnel and all the western civilians working there. There is a fantastic research group who have studied this culture for many years and even lived among the Afghans in order to better understand their culture. I highly recommend everyone to read their thesis documents, you will be enlightened.

Having a lack of true understanding of this culture has, in my opinion, led to the myriad of tragic and strategic mistakes that we are constantly repeating due to the rapid rotation of soldiers and civilians in and out of the Country.

My personal opinion, we should have departed this Country after defeating Al Qaida - because this was the original reason we went. Of course, as history has proven, the mission crept along and evolved into going after the group that Pashtun's hold respect for.

According to Wikipedia -The U.S. petitioned the international community to back a military campaign to overthrow the Taliban. The U.N. issued two resolutions on terrorism after the Sept.11 attacks. The resolutions called on all states to "[increase] cooperation and full implementation of the relevant international conventions relating to terrorism" and specified consensus recommendations for all countries. The Security Council did not authorize military intervention in Afghanistan of any kind, and nowhere in the U.N resolutions did it say military operations in Afghanistan were justified or conformed to international law.[111] Despite this, NATO approved a campaign against Afghanistan as self-defense against armed attack.

Regardless of the reasons why NATO and the US are still in Afghanistan, the problem only has grown more complicated over time and the native peoples more indignant for the presence of westerners in their resource scarce Country.

With every Afghan death, according to Pashtunwali and other Afghan cultural standards, reprisals and compensation must occur. Even if deaths were considered accidental, it is to be compensated (not always by money).

Bottom line is that we have, as a western society, come into this Country and forced our viewpoints, concepts and beliefs upon a people who are tired of intervention. The United Stated crippled Al Qaida and it should have stopped there.

Of course, now we have all these new HIGH TECH toys that were not available just a mere 10 years ago. Think about it for a minute.

Look forward to all the hate mail!

As this technology matures from its infancy stages, high-tech drones are no longer the small gas powered toys of yesterday. They are sophisticated platforms that can be tailored to fit any requirements from governments, state agencies, private corporations or even individuals.

Many of these Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) can range from extremely inexpensive to completely over-the-top in price. Governments around the world are rushing to pad their arsenals with these new "wonder tools"

In American society, we mostly pride ourselves to the right to privacy. In fact many people will even fight to defend that right. The US Constitution provides some form of protection on privacy that most of us hold to be sacred.

Many will probably be a little upset to know that the US Government, State agencies, Federal agencies and even private corporations are now flying these UAVs over American cities, towns, borders all for different reasons.

According to most reports, the US Government is already utilizing these drones to help police the border between Mexico and Canada and even patrol the shores for contraband and illegal activity. There are more cities and states wanting to jump on board with the UAV revolution because it will allow them to track speeders, criminals, monitor vice, drug trafficking and just plain observation of traffic.

Long gone are the days when you have a right of privacy in your own home. These sophisticated drones have the ability to "see" into homes using infrared or thermal technologies as well as record and broadcast live video feeds and GPS locations. Sure, the state and Federal government can claim what they want - but how will they be held accountable for not infringing on your right to privacy? You won't.

Don't get me wrong, I find the uses of these machines to be in the best interest of mankind, however - given our current political and social problems, I don't think it is a great idea at the moment.http://www.crazyengineers.com/mit-research-defines-uavs-theoretical-speed-limit-1697/

Since the current US election year is providing such fodder for comments and varied opinions, I thought I would expand on my previous post about the sad state of the Republican field - more specifically how skewed and out of touch Rick Santorum is and continues to be.

Today he has provided more insight into his bigoted, homophobic, racist views by comparing food stamps with minorities. This is a change from when he said "Black People" in January.

It is absolutely amazing that this kind of person is allowed to be in politics. I think Hitler was just as skewed in his view of the world. He even used the same excuses that Santorum is using now, RELIGION. His beliefs are so out of touch.

I really hope Americans wake up and see this person for who he truly is, a man who needs psychiatric help, therapy to get over the fact his child died early. He has a mental condition and is using religion (or some bastardized version of it) as a cop-out.

Get real.

So I am feeling like talking about the current political mess that is disguised as a Presidential Primary campaign by the Republican Party. Now before anyone gets hurt or feels threatened by other opinions, let it be known that since I was 18 years old and eligible to vote, I voted Republican. I only changed views the past decade because the Republican party has really gone off the deep end. No, I didn't vote for Obama, because I felt he wasn't qualified to be President - and still not! I voted for, unfortunately, McCain-Palin. My REAL choice was taken away from me - Hillary Clinton.

Now, don't try to figure out my political leanings because I will always disappoint. I go to the side that represents me as an American not a party just for the sake of voting for a party.

Now, on to today's topic. Rick Santorum. Here is a prime example of what it means to be out of touch with reality. Why do I say this? Well, take a look at his views that he's publicly acknowledged. (feel free to look at the links which go to his own statements --- No interpretation needed)

   - He believes that women should be sub-servant to men and should not work outside the home (i.e. Stay home Pregnant and barefoot)

   - He opposes birth control (contraceptives, the pill, etc)

   - He believes that Satan has been attacking American and Americans for the past 200 years

   - He relates people who believe in Evolution to Nazis

If you still need further information, please visit his homepage. I'm an equal opportunity opinionist!

Does religion really need to play a role in American Politics of today? Why should we be concerned when religious zealots and ideology become entangled with politics?

     - The Inquisition , Here is another link and another.

     - Religious persecution through history

     - Early America was not a religious tolerant society

Bottom line for Today's Rambling is this: Rick Santorum is not only incapable of being President of the United States, he's actually presenting his religious views as the only choice and one that would place every person in America at risk. Vote for someone else!

Today I read an article on Yahoo! News (COMMENT: - this article is from 2012 - and as of 2020 Yahoo doesn't have the link but I have attached one from CNET) about a woman in Colorado Springs, Colorado who is being charged by the Government with filing bogus paperwork to steal the homes of homeowners who are facing default. (Here is the link) The Federal Government prosecutors have this one small problem, she encrypted her computer and is refusing to provide the pass-key to encryption software so now the prosecutors are not able to build a case against her. The prosecutors went to a judge to order her to provide the pass-key so they can access the hard drive for evidence.

Now, I am not a lawyer here, nor do I profess to be one in any way shape or form, but this smells like bad cheese! First of all, someone is being ACCUSED of a crime. Okay, so she may be a degenerate, lower than pond scum criminal, but she still should be considered innocent until PROVEN guilty. If the prosecution does not have any hard evidence other than what they ASSUME is on this encrypted hard drive, they should just drop the case.

Before someone gets all offended because they feel I am defending this woman, hold your steam. I'm not defending this woman, I am defending the rights of every citizen in the US. Here is my reasoning.

First of all, if the prosecution is successful in forcing this woman to reveal this pass-key, it will set a precedent that will allow the Federal, State or Local Government to force anyone to reveal information to prosecute them on supposed "crimes", even when that person did not commit a crime. They will have unlimited power to accuse anyone at anytime for anything. Even made up bogus charges will become validated when they are able to fabricate evidence. Think i'm out there on this? Take a look at all the cases of innocent American's who were sent to prison for 20, 30 or longer years for crimes they didn't commit only to find out decades later that the cop and prosecution involved made up the evidence because they wanted to win their case. Still don't believe me, go to the innocence project and see for yourself.

The U.S. Constitution has a provision for unreasonable searches and seizures - "right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated. . . .". The Fifth Amendment also protects against self-incrimination. So in essence, the prosecution legally obtained a warrant to seize this computer and hard drive, however they do not have a KEY to access the information on this hard drive in order to develop a case against the defendant. Now they want to force this woman to provide information that will allow them to help build a case against her, in other words be forced to suppress her 5th Amendment rights.

What's even more troubling is that the prosecution is trying to cause fear by linking this woman and the word terrorist as justification for forcing her to reveal the pass-key. This is exactly how the Federal Government will get its way with anyone, by linking them or labeling them a terrorist. Remember folks, ANYONE can be in this same situation for no reason at all. I find reprehensible that this prosecutor would even try to compare these charges as something that would aid terrorism. Totally bogus.

Regardless if this woman is guilty or not (which I think she may be completely guilty), the Federal Government should lose this case because they have incompetent personnel who cannot build a case without the hard drive and the supposed information that may or may not be on this device. If this is the "straw that will break the camel's back" then honestly the judge should dismiss the case completely.

I have decided to write about my observations, opinions and thoughts about today's political spectrum throughout the world. I will probably be commenting mostly on the United States and our fractured political system, but no one Country will be spared.

Topics will range from elections, ethics, finance, security, corporate greed, political correctness, and a host of others. Comments from anyone will be welcome, but please remember that I would like to keep this blog PG-13 at least! No profanity.
