Not Every 12-Digit Number is Aadhaar, Says UIDAI. Here is how to check If your Aadhaar is Valid

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the issuer of Aadhaar card and Aadhaar number, has provided several tools on its portal.

Aadhaar or Unique Identity Number (UID) is a 12-digit number based on biometrics-related information. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the issuer of Aadhaar card and Aadhaar number, has provided several tools on its portal – uidai.gov.in.

One of these Aadhaar tools enables Aadhaar holders to check the validity of a 12-digit Aadhaar number. “Not every 12-digit number is Aadhaar,” the UIDAI said on Twitter, urging Aadhaar holders to check if a 12-digit number given to them is a valid Aadhaar number.

How to check if Aadhaar card is valid?

Once on the UIDAI website (https://uidai.gov.in/), proceed by clicking on the ‘Verify Aadhaar Number’ link.

Once on the ‘Verify Aadhaar Number’ page, the Aadhaar holder is required to enter the details as specified in the respective fields. In the second field, called ‘Enter Security Code’, fill in the code as displayed in the image and push ‘Verify’.

For active Aadhaar numbers, the next page will display a message confirming the status of the Aadhaar number entered.

On completion of the verification process, the tool displays the last three digit of the mobile number registered with the Aadhaar database and the age range of the bearer, among other details.

In case of invalid Aadhaar numbers, the page says the number “doesn’t exist” at the end of the verification process.

Firefox will start blocking Flash content next month

Following in the footsteps of the other major browser, Firefox is taking steps to drastically reduce Adobe Flash usage in the near future.

Mozilla recently announced that Firefox will “block certain Flash content that is not essential to the user experience”—in other words, ads and any behind the scenes operations using Flash. Mozilla says that blocking non-essential Flash should reduce crashes and browser hang-ups by as much as 10 percent. The initial blocked content will be restricted to a specific list that Mozilla has put up on GitHub, with plans to add more block targets to the list over time.

In 2017, Firefox will make all Flash content click-to-play by default. In other words, no Flash content will automatically start playing when you load a tab, including video and games. You'll have to manually authorize Flash content to start.

Why this matters: Flash was a crucial element to the web in its early days. Now, however, most if not all of its functionality can be replaced by native web technologies such as HTML5. Plus, NPAPI plugins like Flash are known to cause problems with browser stability, performance, and security. Even Adobe is moving away from Flash on the web. In late 2015, the company released a statement to “encourage content creators to build with new web standards,” which would inevitably lead developers away from Flash.

RIP Flash

Firefox was the last major browser to give Flash a serious kick to the curb.

Google Chrome started pausing non-essential Flash content more than a year ago. Google also plans to make HTML5 the primary option for Chrome by the end of 2016, with only 10 sites white-listed to use Flash.

Microsoft followed Chrome’s lead with Edge in April. Apple, meanwhile, added click-to-play functionality to Safari 7 in 2013, and the upcoming Safari 10 on macOS Sierra will take a much harsher stand, telling websites that Flash isn’t installed on the user’s machine at all. This will force websites with an HTML5 option to use that instead—though Flash will still be available to users as a click-to-play option.

While Firefox is seriously reducing Flash's importance, Adobe's technology will remain as a plugin option for the foreseeable future. Similar to Chrome, Firefox will discontinue support for NPAPI plugins such as Java and Silverlight in March 2017, after pushing back original plans to end plugin support in late 2016. The only exception? Flash.

Iris Scans to Replace Fingerprints

FBI officials have scanned the irises of nearly 460,000 people in a pilot program that may soon replace fingerprints. While iris-scanning technology has been around for more than 25 years, it's just now getting to where it's fast, easy and relatively bug-free.

"It's a powerful bio-metric," said Patrick Grother, a computer scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Md., who has been developing algorithms and software for iris scanning. "It's fast to process, it has discriminative power -- my iris doesn't look like your iris, and it has reasonable permanence."

Iris scanning has replaced retinal scans, a method that has been pretty much abandoned since it turned out to be uncomfortable for people to endure, Grother explained. Iris scan technology was featured recently in the AMC mini-series " The Night Manager," based on a John LeCarre spy novel. The lead character used an iris scan camera on his smartphone to access his Swiss bank account (just before a big truck blew up).

Grother says that kind of quick reading ability isn't far away, and several banks are looking at using it. Windows' Lumia Nokia and Fujitsu both have iris scanners to unlock their phones, (similar to the iPhone fingerprint pad) but it's not ready to authenticate other sorts of apps or accounts.

Iris scanning cameras can be hand-held or attached to a wall. They are effective from three to six feet away from the subject's eyes. Soldiers in Iraq have been using them to authenticate Iraqi civilians who are authorized to work inside U.S. military facilities.

The iris is a part of the eye outside of the pupil that is made of collagen in a three-dimensional arrangement. This pattern can be imaged with light at certain wavelengths.

"It's like taking picture of sand dunes from space," he said. "It's a 3-D object."

The FBI's Iris Pilot program is being deployed by law enforcement officials in California, Texas and Missouri during the booking process. The U.S. Border Patrol and Department of Defense are also using iris scans, according to Stephen Fischer, an FBI spokesman.

The next step is collecting iris scans from photographs of people's eyes.

"Iris images enrolled in the FBI Iris Pilot are primarily captured during the booking process in a controlled setting with a camera designed to capture the iris image," Fischer said in an email to DNews. "These cameras capture the iris image in near-infrared light. Research is currently being conducted on the extraction of iris images from high-resolution photographs."

People with brown eyes have more pigment than those with blue eyes, said Grother. That makes it tougher to capture iris information from photographs of brown-eyed folks.

Of course, anyone who blinks, squints or scrunches up their eyes will make it difficult for law enforcement to get a good scan.

Grother and other experts now are developing software to recognize iris patterns from several different camera angles, making it easier to use a hand-held device or smartphone.

As the Examinations are nearing in the month of November/December/January, here are 7 tips to help every student pass exams:

1. No limiting belief please

Remove the limiting belief that you can’t pass.
If you believe you can pass or you believe you cannot pass, you are right.
I have seen students under the impression that examiner is their enemy. Please don’t think so. Pass percentage might be low, but students do pass their exams. So, don’t think that you will be in a failure category ever.

2. Understand the structure of paper

First of all, understand the structure of paper – is there any marks allocation for a particular topic?
Secondly, if there is marks allocation, is examiner following it? The best thing to do is to review the past five papers.
What is the key topic i.e. examiner’s favorite? Is there any article by examiner in the Students’ Accountant or any other relevant student magazine? Study that topic and prepare for it, even if you don’t like it!

3. Taking notes

Prepare for exams by way of ‘notes’ which you can recall quickly at the time of taking exam. This will help in two manner. First, when you write, you are in better picture of giving your mind instruction through written letters. Secondly, you can revise from your notes instead of opening the book when exam day is near. Here is my strategy for taking notes:
Take a paper and turn it in landscape format.
Put three columns in landscape form.
Once done, take synopsis of a chapter in smaller fonts and the language which you can easily understand.
Write bullet points, important concepts and key ideas which you need to remember.
These notes should be used at the time when paper is on head and you need to revise whole subject in two to three hours.

4. Remembering / memorizing key ideas and formula

One of the key ideas to memorize ideas e.g. formula, is to write them in small charts and hang it in front of your bed.
See those formula daily before going to bed and rising up.
Use different colors and markers.
Believe me, in my Maths paper, I was recalling the formula in the exact colors which I wrote on charts.

5. Exam practice

Practice mock exam – be your own examiner.
Take any past paper and solve it as a mock exam.
Solve past paper in the time allocated in exam. Think you are in exam hall and solve the paper accordingly.
Check your paper and give yourself marks.
See how are you performing in mock exam and be sincere to yourself.

6. Time your paper

Here is technique to time your paper: Take total marks and total time. Subtract 10 minutes from the total minutes. Divide the remainder with the marks and you get time per marks
Example: If there are 100 marks for a paper and you have 180 minutes. Subtract 10 minutes. This means you have 170 minutes altogether or 1.7 minutes per mark.
Make sure that you don’t spend more that 1.7 minutes per mark e.g. if a question is of 16 marks, maximum time you should spend should be 27 minutes.
It happens that students try to focus on one particular question and if they are unable to solve it, they get confused. Don’t panic. Start next question. If student has time, he / she can take up that particular question later on.
Try to allocate 10 minutes at the end of exam to review the paper thoroughly.

7. Don’t annoy examiner

See for spelling errors and writing style. Writing needs to be legible and understandable. As a teacher to many students, I have noticed that spelling errors and the way students write, at times, is not understandable. Examiner has very less time to check paper. If your paper is examiner friendly, you are going to attract good marks.

To expedite the passport issuing system, the ministry of external affairs (MEA) has now decided to rely on Aadhaar card for identification of the applicant and on the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) database for validation of his/her criminal antecedents.

The simplified police verification system seeks to resolve issues raised from time to time regarding prior police verification and consequent delay in issuance of passports. In the new format, the applicant would apply online; he or she needs only to attach the Aadhaar card as the sole address and identity proof. The applicant will get the appointment within three days and in another seven days, the passport will be processed and dispatched.

Here is how you can get passport in JUST 10 DAYS through online process:

Step 1 – Register yourself at Passport Seva Portal

Go to this link http://www.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/welcomeLink to register yourself.

If you are a new user, click on ‘register now’ link and fill in details like your ‘passport kendra’, date of birth, and email id.

You will receive you login ID on your registered email ID. Thereafter, you will be redirected to the home page.

Step 2 – Login

Activate your account by clicking on the link received on your email ID. Login through your user name and password. Thereafter, click on the link ‘Apply for Fresh Passport’ or ‘Re-issue of Passport’. You will get two options; click on the second one to fill the application form online.

Step 3 – Choose your option

If you are applying for passport for the first time, click on ‘Apply for Fresh Passport’ link. Thereafter, you will be required to fill in some forms. Take your time while providing with your details, lest there should be a mistake. For once the passport process fails, it takes a lot of time to reapply.

Step 4 – Fill in family details

Once you have filled in the details, save it. You can now access this page anytime by using your user name and password. In the next page, fill in your family details.

You can save it and move to the next page where provide with your address; save it too. Provide with your emergency contact details afterwards.

Step 5 – Pay and schedule appointment

At ‘View Saved/Submitted Applications’ page, clink on Pay and Schedule Appointment link and fix your appointment time. After submitting the form you will be required to make online payment through your credit card, debit card, or internet banking.

Step 6 – Print application receipt

After completing the process, click on Application Receipt link to get the printout, which will contain application reference number and appointment number.

Step 7 – Carry original documents

Things to do Before Appearing for an Interview:

Before appearing for any Interview make certain to do the following things. The below list will help you prepare well for the Interview and increase your chances to clear the Interview.

1. Analyze the Role for which you are applying.

Read the responsibilities of the role and think through how you would fit into that role. Think through the operational aspects involved with the role. Find out your strength which will help you perform well in the role. Highlight that strength in the Interview and make certain to the Interviewers that you are the right fit for the role. Analyzing about the role will help you answer the Interviewer question around "What do you know about this role?"

2. Research about the Company.

Go through the company website to find out "what they are doing for business". Identify the products/services that the company offers. Read through the company's mission and vision statements. Read the latest news about the company to see where they are headed, read about their leadership team, their key customers, and shareholders. This preparation will help you to clearly know about the company for which you are applying. Researching about the company will help answer the question around "What do you know about our company?"

3. Research about the Team.

Find out people who work in the team for which you are interviewed. If possible, try to know about the team and the role by speaking with one of the team members. You can connect with the team members through LinkedIn/Facebook/other social networks. Speaking with team members will give you very good idea about the things that you would do in the new role. Speaking with the team members can be highlighted in the Interview and that can be used to demonstrate your keen interest in the job. Interviewer would view this as a positive thing and you will have good chances of clearing the Interview. If possible, try to get referral from the team members which will further increase the chances of clearing the Interview.

4. Know your Resume/CV.

Make certain to go through the version of the resume that you shared with the Interviewer. You might have several versions of the resume, make certain to read through the correct version before appearing for the Interview. Many times Interviewers find that candidates do not know what they have written in the resume. Be prepared to answer any question that the Interviewer might have on any line in your resume. If you are not confident of explaining any item in the resume, then it is better to remove that before applying for a job.

5. Write-up for standard Interview Questions.

Biking is a great form of transportation with one huge drawback – theft. With enough time a skilled bike thief can get through just about any lock. Three Chilean students, well-acquainted with the anguish of having a beloved bike stolen, are developing a clever solution to this problem.

Sure, a thief can beat any lock, but what if the bike is the lock? Sawing through a bike’s frame to steal it ruins its resale value. There’s less incentive to steal a bike when you have to break it in the process.

Childhood friends Andres Roi Eggers and Cristobal Cabello met Juan Jose Monsalve at Adolfo Ibanez University in Santiago, Chile, and set out to create the “unstealable” bike in an engineering class. They call it the Yerka Project, which “has a similarity with a Nordic word that means strength,” Monsalve told me.

“We wanted to use as many components of the bike as possible, so as a rider you don’t have to carry any lock whatsoever to secure your bike,” Eggers said.

The lower beam of the frame consists of two arms that can be opened up to wrap around a pole for locking purposes. The bike is then secured by using the seat post to connect the arms.

The prototype is the result of two years of work. They experimented with a PVC model of a bike frame before buying a bike for a rideable prototype. The group tried using the upper crossbar to serve as the two arms, but found that didn't work.

The prototype in their Video uses a key to lock the seat post once it is slid in place. But Eggers said they are building prototypes that lock with combinations, and through a smartphone. (Using Bluetooth to control a lock has been done before.)

The group is also designing prototypes for a bicycle with a step-through frame, and a bike with gears.

While they claim the bike can’t be stolen, what about the wheels and handlebars? Plenty of thieves are happy to make off with just a wheel. That’s why many cyclists, myself include, use a cable that connects to a U-lock and loops through both wheels.

Eggers points to options such as locking skewers, which offer better protection for wheels.

“This might be an option, but we are also working on our own way or method to secure them,” he said. “The idea is to secure as many components as we can, making a comfortable bike to ride, that is safe and that has the slick look of a traditional urban bicycle.”

Eggers expects their first batch of bikes to be available within six to eight months. The guys are also planning to launch a Kick starter campaign by December to raise funds for mass production and global sales. The start-up is working out of Garage UAI, which provides work space, advice and business connections.

IRCTC Now Capable of Handling 7,200 Ticket Bookings Per Minute

The tedious experiences of booking train tickets through the IRCTC website may have become a thing of the past, as the Indian Railways on Wednesday launched its next-generation e-ticketing system that features an enhanced booking capacity of 7,200 tickets per minute, and is said to be both faster and easier to use.

"It was a rail budget commitment which was fulfilled today," Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda said after launching the next generation e-ticketing system in New Delhi.

The new system developed by Centre for Railway information Systems (CRIS) with an estimated cost of Rs. 180 crore would allow booking of 7,200 tickets per minute against 2,000 tickets per minute possible with the old system.

Also, with the launch of the system, 120,000 concurrent users can book e-tickets simultaneously now, against the earlier capacity of 40,000 concurrent users at a time. (Also see: Beyond IRCTC: Apps and Sites That Make Train Travel Better)

Expressing his happiness on the successful implementation of the faster e-ticketing system which was part of the Rail Budget proposal, Gowda said "budget was presented two months and five days ago in Parliament, and today we are launching [the upgraded service]."

He hoped with this pace all budget proposals would be implemented before the next budget though there are only six months left for the next year budget.

Besides e-ticketing, Gowda launched a series of IT-enabled initiatives for rail users including train enquiry mobile application and Go-India smart card.

Online system like e-Demand and e-Diversion for freight service was also launched by Gowda to enable the booking of wagons and making of payments without going to counters.

"Railways is part and parcel of development. It is in the mind of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM said all operational part of railways should be covered through online system," the Railway minister said.

Emphasising state-of-the-art solution in rail sector to bring about operational efficiency, Gowda said "I have envisaged hospital management information system for the railway staff."

He also suggested education to children of railway staff through optic fibre cable network.

Gowda also announced cash awards of Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 2.5 lakh for CRIS and IRCTC respectively for their commendable work.

For those who struggle to solve a sudoku puzzle, scientists have come to your rescue!

Researchers at University of Notre Dame have developed a mathematical algorithm that solves sudoku puzzles very quickly, without any guessing or backtracking. Researchers, Zoltan Toroczkai and Maria Ercsey-Ravasz, however, cannot only explain why some sudoku puzzles are harder than others.

Toroczkai and Ercsey-Ravasz from Romanias Babes-Bolyai University, began studying sudoku as part of their research into the theory of optimization and computational complexity.

They note that most sudokua enthusiasts use what is known as a "brute force" system to solve problems, combined with a good deal of guessing.

Brute force systems essentially deploy all possible combinations of numbers in a sudoku puzzle until the correct answer is found. While the method is successful, it is also time consuming.

Instead, Toroczkai and Ercsey-Ravasz have proposed a universal analog algorithm that is completely deterministic (no guessing or exhaustive searching) and always arrives at the correct solution to a problem, and does so much more quickly.

They discovered that the time it took to solve a problem with their analog algorithm correlated with the difficulty of the problem as rated by human solvers.

Quantify:

Use numbers to showcase your contributions. If it's sales, quantify the deals by their worth like you sold over $5000 in the last 10 months, or managing a team of 10 sounds better than just heading the sales team.

The Top - Bottom Approach:

Try arranging your data in a manner where your outstanding achievements are placed on the top right after your basic information and schooling history. Placing such critical information at the end might not get the desired attention.

Customisation:

Customise the resume as per the positions applied for; accordingly, arrange the experience and achievements. Addressing it to the respective person gets you the bonus points.

Fancy Fonts:

Avoid using fancy and complicated fonts. Always ensure a common font running through your resume. Keep a check on the font size.

Copy/Paste:

This is a very common practice; candidates often copy-paste the common contents of a resume like career objective, hobbies, strengths, etc. Don't be a part of the herd. Employers look to hire the innovators and initiators.

Step 1:

Click Start -- Run -- Gpedit.msc -- User Configuration -- Administrative Templates -- System .

Step 2:

Click Prevent Access to Registry Editing Tools. Then Right Click Prevent Access to Registry Editing Tools and Click Edit.

Step 3:

Another Dialog Box Appears. In That Click Disabled and Click OK.

Enabling Task Manager

Step 1:

Step 2:

Click Ctrl+Alt+Del Options. Then Double Click Ctrl+Alt+Del Options Folder.

Step 3:
