The Swiss star is proving one of the bargains of the season as his class helped Jurgen Klopp's men past Fulham at Anfield. Liverpool' search for the free-flowing mastery of last season goes on but there was more than enough here to send Kopites home content.

The Reds went into the international break on a high after an ultimately routine victory over lowly Fulham.

It was far from a ruthless demolition job but Jurgen Klopp's side overcame a sticky start to get the job done and put their Belgrade nightmare filmly behind them.

In the build up Klopp said he felt like Liverpool had to say sorry for not winning the city way, but on this occasion there were a stack of positives which bode well for the challenges ahead.

Mohamed Salah maintained his resurgence with his eighth goal of the campaign and Xherdan Shaqiri wrapped up the points early in the second half. little Swiss attacker, who added another Anfield standing ovation to his growing collection, looked like a man on a mission after Klopp opted not to expose him to a gautlet of hate in the Serbian capital.This was only Shaqiri's fifth start but he's already made the leap from decent squad player to shining light. his last six appearances for Liverpool he has contributed two goals and three assists. His claims for greater involvement simply can't be ignored, no matter who the Reds are facing.

Shaqiri is a rare breed – strong as an ox but with the finesse of a ballerina. Crucially, he provides the Reds with the kind of creative spark they simply don't possess when he's not out there.Salah and Shaqiri aside, there was also a much improved display from Roberto Firmino. Fellow Brazilian Fabinho also caught the eye in the centre of the park, while Andy Robertson was outstanding as he rampaged down the left flank.

Efcc to prosecute former SGF boss babachir lawal

Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finally submitted the report of its investigation into fraud allegations against a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

Lawal, while he was the SGF, was accused of looting the funds of the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE) through front companies. However, he has consistently maintained his innocence and denied the allegations.

But the investigation report submitted to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, by Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, found otherwise. Multiple sources at the Federal Ministry of Justice confirmed that Magu submitted the report to Malami last week.

The report also includes draft charges the EFCC considered appropriate for the ex-SGF to face in the event the federal government decides to give him the opportunity to clear his name in the court of law.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on October 30 last year accepted the recommendations of the report of a panel, headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, which investigated allegations of corruption against Lawal and a former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke. Before then, the Presidency had suspended Lawal, who, when told that he had been suspended, made the now famous reaction, “who is the Presidency?”
The statement issued by the Presidency announcing Lawal’s removal from office had read, “President Muhammadu Buhari has studied the report of the panel headed by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), which investigated allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and the Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke.

“The president accepted the recommendation of the panel to terminate the appointment of Mr. Lawal, and has appointed Boss Mustapha as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
“The appointment takes immediate effect.

“President Buhari also approved the recommendation to terminate the appointment of Mr. Oke, and has further approved the setting up of a three-member panel to, among other things, look into the operational, technical and administrative structure of the Agency and make appropriate recommendations.”

According to the EFCC report, between November 2015 and November 2017, PINE received about N16.9 billion. Of this, at least 11.6 billion was supposedly spent mostly through contracts to fronts.

The anti-corruption agency found that many of the contracts breached due process. It also discovered that many of the contractors were either fronts of Lawal or required to pay kickbacks to companies owned by him. The main company that was allegedly used for this scam was Rholavision. EFCC matched up the Bank Verification Number (BVN) to the company account and found that he was the main signatory to the company account.

Over the two years, at least N566 million (about 5% of the total expenditure of PINE) over the period went to the account of Rholavision alone.

Another company was known as Bards Brothers.
The likely offences raised in the charges are breach of trust, conspiracy and stealing.
It took pressure from the public, through the media, to persuade the president to agree to investigate Lawal.
Under Nigerian laws, an accused remains innocent until his guilt has been proved beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Nigerian singer tekno is hospitalised

Augustine Kelechi, aka Tekno, 25-year-old music star has cancelled his bookings because of illness.

The ‘Pana’ crooner, who shared this on his Instagram page, on Thursday also announced that he would be taking some time to fully recover before getting back to making music.

The nature of the ailment is not disclosed.

He wrote @teknoofficial, “I have been away and on treatment, please don’t be upset that I can’t make it to shows I have been booked for.”

Tekno added that he is hoping to get back to what he loves doing the most as soon as possible, pleaded for fans’ prayers and apologised for the inconveniences caused.

“I am taking time out to fully recover and hopefully get back to doing what I love most soonest. I apologise, and if you can please pray for me, God watch over us all, thank you.”

Following the announcement, fans and fellow celebrities including Tiwa Savage, Falz and Kizz Daniel, took to Instagram to wish Tekno a speedy recovery.

NAN recalls that in April, 2017, Tekno was forced to cancel booked shows after he was admitted in an American hospital for acid reflux.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has taken a veiled swipe at Manchester City star Sergio Aguero before Sunday’s derby showdown at the Etihad Stadium.

Mourinho said of Aguero that “there are little things in his game I am not a fan of”, although he declined to elaborate further when asked. Aguero, City’s all-time leading scorer, was criticised heavily by Mourinho after a 0-0 draw with United at the Etihad in April 2017.

United midfielder Marouane Fellaini was sent off for a headbutt on the Argentina international, with Mourinho suggesting the striker’s reaction had been over-dramatic.

“I saw Aguero in the tunnel but (there was) no broken nose, no broken head, (and) his face is nice as always,” Mourinho said at the time.Mourinho was quick to pay tribute to Aguero’s qualities as a goalscorer before United’s latest clash with arch rivals City, but he dropped a strong hint that he believes there is a dark side to his game.

A fatal road accident has claimed the lives of a man, his wife, daughter and mother-in-law in Anambra state.

An accident on Saturday at Nkwelle Ezunaka junction in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State claimed the lives of a man, his wife, daughter and mother-in-law, according to Punch.

It was gathered that the accident involved a tipper lorry and a car.

The victims, who were rushed to a nearby hospital were confirmed dead on arrival.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed said the corpses of the victims have been deposited in a morgue.

Mohammed said, “There was an accident involving a tipper and a Toyota Camry car along Nkwelle Ezunaka junction in Onitsha.

“The accident occurred when the two vehicles had a head-on collision. As a result of the accident, the driver of the Toyota Camry, one Mr Godwin Akaeme and three other passengers in the car comprising his wife, daughter and mother-in-law, whose names are still unknown, sustained various degrees of injuries."

Nigeria: Court Okays Suit for Trial of Fani-Kayode, Abaribe Over Nnamdi Kanu

former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe and others are to be prosecuted over an alleged involvement in how Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), escaped from the country.

A Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday gave permission for the commencement of a suit seeking to compel the State Security Service (SSS) and the Nigeria Police to investigate and prosecute them.

Justice John Tsoho gave the permission after listening to the applicant's lawyer, Oghenovo Otemu, who moved a motion ex-parte for leave to commence an action for order of mandamus.

The judge said he was convinced that the applicant, Isaiah Ayugu, could proceed to properly apply for the order sought and ordered Ayugu to file a motion on notice to that effect and serve the respondents before November 22 this year.

Ayugu, in the ex-parte motion, said he was concerned about the turn of event and the damage the scandal about Kanu's disappearance and the claim that the Nigeria was responsible have had on the country's image both at home and abroad.

He listed the Director General of the SSS, the SSS, the Inspector general of Police (IGP) and the NPF as respondents in suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1254/18. The plaintiff argued that by the recent revelation that Kanu was in Israel, it was evident that Fani-Kayode, Abaribe, Kanu's lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, and others, who had accused the Nigerian Army of being behind his disappearance, knew about his escape from Nigeria.

It is, therefore, clear that whilst Abaribe, Femi Fani-Kayode, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Tochukwu Uchendu, Emmanuel Shallow Ben, Emmanuel Kanu, Uchechi Kanu, leaders of Afaraukwu community in Umuahia North Council of Abia State, the different civil liberty organisations and media practitioners and so many others too numerous to mention were making several dangerous claims that Kanu has been killed, abducted or being held by the Army, they were aware that he was actually out of the country, by their collective or respective assistance, from where he resurfaced in video clips of him praying in Israel and subsequent video broadcast."Because Abaribe took Kanu on bail, the case against Kanu has not seen the light of the day as Kanu has now jumped bail."

Ayugu said he intended to apply for an order of mandamus, mandating the respondents "to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Kanu from Nigeria when, in fact, the Nigerian Army was accused of abducting, arresting, kidnapping, killing and assassinating him.

"An order mandating the respondents to prosecute all persons suspected or indicted of involvement in aiding Kanu to evade justice."

Falz Sues NBC For The Ban Placed On His Song “This Is Nigeria”

Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has filed papers in court challenging the ban placed by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on his song, “This is Nigeria”. The court documents were filed through Falz’s lawyers, Adepetun Caxton-Martins Agbor & Segun (ACAS-Law), on November, 6, 2018, three months after the NBC sent a letter to JODAJ Global Communications Limited in Jos sanctioning them for playing Falz’s song, “This Is Nigeria” and banning the song from being played on radio, along with other songs. In the letter sent to JODAJ Global Communications Limited, NBC stated that the reason for banning This Is Nigeria is that the lyrics are vulgar and in contravention of the NBC Code. A lot of Nigerians, including celebrities, criticized NBC for the ban, stating it was ridiculous, but the ban was upheld. Falz had hinted in an interview granted in August that he would write to the NBC to seek a justification for the ban and if necessary, seek legal redress in the courts. He has now followed through on his words by taking legal action against the regulatory body. The singer, who is also a lawyer, has taken steps in engaging his lawyers, ACAS-Law, to institute an action against the NBC challenging the ban. The Originating Summons reveals that Falz is seeking, among other things, for: A declaration that the Defendant’s prohibition of the Plaintiff’s song titled “This Is Nigeria” from being aired by the Nigerian media outfits on the pretext that same is laced with vulgar lyrics is in flagrant breach of the Plaintiff’s right to the freedom of thought, conscience and expression as guaranteed under Sections 38 and 39 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and to that extent, such prohibition is unconstitutional, null and void. An Order of this Honourable Court setting aside and/or vacating the decision of the Defendant as contained in the letter dated 6th August 2018 and lifting the ban or proscription of the use of the Plaintiff’s song titled, “This Is Nigeria” by any and all Nigerian media outfit/organizations. The sum of N100,000,000 (One Hundred Million Naira to the Plaintiff on the footing of aggravated and exemplary damages for the wrongful and unconstitutional acts of the Defendant.

Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba has ended his glittering football career.

Drogba, now 40 years old, decided to hang his boots after his team, Phoenix Rising, which he part-owned lost to Louisville City in the USL Cup final.

According to BBC Sport, co-owner of Rising, Berke Bakay thanked Drogba for his “amazing contributions to the beautiful sport” after Friday’s loss.

Drogba scored a goal in each of the club’s three play-off matches en route to their first ever USL Cup final.

Esperance got the goals they required to come back in impressive fashion from a two-goal deficit and win the CAF Champions League with a 3-0 home win over Al Ahly on Friday.

MTN sue federal government of Nigeria over damages

Telecommunication company, MTN Nigeria, has sued the Nigerian government to the tune of N3 billion.

The firm, in the new suit, is challenging the legality of N242 billion and $1.3 billion import duties and withholding tax demanded from it by the Nigerian government.

The embattled company, in the suit filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos, is demanding the N3 billion for general and exemplary damages and legal costs from the defendant.

A judge, Chukwujekwu Aneke, on Thursday, adjourned the suit until December 3 for hearing after counsel confirmed that motions have been filed and served on parties.In the suit filed on September 10, the telecom firm is contending that the purported "revenue assets investigation" allegedly carried out by the Nigerian government for the period of 2007 to 2017 violates the Nigerian constitution.

Also, the telecom firm is claiming that the government's decision conveyed through the Office of the AGF by an August 20 letter, violates the provisions of Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution.

The firm is seeking a declaration that the AGF acted in excess of its powers by purporting to direct through its letter of May 10 a "self-assessment exercise" which usurps the powers of the Nigerian Customs Service to demand payment of import duties on importation of physical goods.

It is also seeking a declaration that the AGF acted illegally by usurping the powers of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to audit and demand remittance of withholding and value added taxes.

According to the suit, the telecom firm prayed for a declaration that the AGF's demand of the sums is premised on a process that is malicious, unreasonable and made on incorrect legal basis.Central Bank of Nigeria had been at loggerheads with the telecom firm following sanctions over alleged illegal repatriation of funds. The CBN accused MTN Nigeria of improper dividend repatriations and demanded that $8.1 billion be returned "to the coffers of the CBN".

Abubakar Mallami, the Attorney-General of the Federation, in a separate move, also slammed a tax bill on the firm, wherein he accused MTN of unpaid taxes on foreign payments and imports, asking it to pay approximately $2billion in relation to the taxes.

According to the CBN, MTN and four banks flouted the "laws and regulations... including the Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1995 and the Foreign Exchange Manual, 2006."

The four banks--Standard Chartered Bank, Citi Bank, Stanbic IBTC Bank and Diamond Bank - were subsequently debited. They all denied wrongdoing.

Hearing of the new suit has been scheduled for December 3.

Responding, he said by the question, he was being conferred with oversight power over the embattled national chairman which he said was not within his jurisdiction.

He said, "I think you are probably giving me an oversight role and I am not a security person, so clearly I think that question will not be for me.

"I don't have to hide under a finger to fight. If there is need for me to put my views across, you know me by now that I will do it.Asked for his reaction to the report that Oshiomhole might have fled the country following his encounter with Department of State Services (DSS) at the weekend, Amosun said, "I have told you those things are beyond my pedigree and you are asking me questions that I am not well suited for. The one that I think I should talk about we have said it loud and clear that we don't need to add any other thing." Asked again on the reason for his visit to the State House, he said, "I always come like this and I know that you will want to ask me this and that and that is what you are doing, but clearly and talking seriously, I think that all that needs to be said.

"I think all of you can attest to that, that has been said loud and clear and I think saying anything further would amount to probably sounding like a broken gramophone. I think I have said all that we need to say and we did it loud and clear."
