It sprawls along the shores of the Black Sea and against the background of the snow-capped peaks of the Caucasus Mountains. At 145 km (90 mi), Greater Sochi is claimed to be the longest city in Europe. As of the 2002 Census, it had a population 328,809, down from 336,514 recorded in the 1989 Census. In 2006, the population was estimated to be 395,012. The city has been selected to be the host of the XXII Olympic Winter Games in 2014.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 288px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/SZghQTNSM-I/AAAAAAAAAN4/53hErapbz1o/s400/sochi02.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303025125146375138" />

This city is the capital of what is known as the 'Russian Riviera'. With its palm trees and occasional banana trees, Sochi is not exactly what many people expect from the stereotypes of 'Russia'.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/SZghzBdO9eI/AAAAAAAAAOA/9ozv4pWT2jk/s400/sochi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303025721676854754" />

Sochi is an ideal destination for a relaxing holiday. The sandy, pebbly beaches of Sochi are not wide, but they are very long and there are countless seaside activities to entertain you, from scuba diving and water-skiing to para-gliding and hang-gliding. And there are aqua-parks and funfairs by the dozen. No wander, then, that young Russians and families flock here by the thousand in July and August - which is why it is worth coming in June, if you can, to beat the crowds. But there is much more to Sochi than a beach holiday.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/SZgmuM0YmVI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/MW1F84ZkZGc/s400/sochi2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303031136385538386" />

Sochi is almost alone among larger Russian cities as having the aspect of a subtropical resort. Apart from the scenic Caucasus Mountains, pebbly and sand beaches, the city attracts vacation-goers with its subtropical vegetation, numerous parks, monuments, and extravagant Stalinist architecture. About two million people visit Greater Sochi each summer, when the city is home to the annual film festival "Kinotavr" and a getaway for Russia's elite.

It is the largest by population and second largest in surface area. UAE as a country is bordered with Saudi Arabia and Oman on the Arab Peninsula as well as lying on the Persian Gulf. Dubai is different from the other emirates in that it only receives 6% of its revenues from oil, rather most of the money generating sources have been from tourism and the services industry.

Dubai is the City built for Tourism all around the year with excellent Hotels, Resorts, Shopping and Sports facilities available throughout the year.

A relatively new tourist destination, Dubai has gained in popularity in recent years. It is essentially a desert city with superb infrastructure, liberal policies (by regional standards), and excellent tourist amenities. Just 5 hrs from Europe and 3 hrs from most parts of the Middle East, the Near East, and the sub-continent of India, Dubai makes a great short break for shopping, partying, sunbathing, fine dining, sporting events, and even a few sinful pleasures. It is a city of superlatives: for the fastest, biggest, tallest, largest and highest, Dubai is the destination.

Burj Dubai is a skyscraper currently under construction and is currently the tallest man-made structure on Earth. Construction began on September 21, 2004, and it is expected to be completed and ready for occupation in September 2009. Burj Dubai now has 164 floors (04.14.08), and 636.9 m tall. The one and only remaining record to be broken is the height of the collapsed Warsaw radio mast, which used to be 646.38 metres tall until August 8. 1991. One website mentions a rumoured final height of 800 - 950m.
The highest resolution photo of Burj Dubai you can find Here

Burj Dubai

Burj Dubai (march 2008)

The Palm Islands are the most exciting project on earth. Early settlers called the island "Te Pito O Te Henua" (Navel of The World). Officially part of Chile, it lies far off in the Pacific Ocean, roughly halfway to Tahiti.

Easter Island is a small, hilly, now treeless island of volcanic origin. Easter Island is famous for its monumental statues, called moai pronounced (Mow-eye), created by the Rapanui people. It is a world heritage site with much of the island protected within the Rapa Nui National Park. The current Polynesian name of the island, Rapa Nui or "Big Rapa", was coined by labor immigrants from Rapa in the Bass Islands, who likened it to their home island in the aftermath of the Peruvian slave deportations in the 1870s. The island received its most well known current name, Easter Island, from the Dutch sea captain Jacob Roggeveen who became the first European to visit Easter Sunday, April 5, 1722.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/R9sG6_gB_WI/AAAAAAAAAJc/EXnubYm9Pf4/s320/easter_island_pictures.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5177739807140478306" />

It's believed that Easter Island was colonized around A.D. 300 by Polynesians from the Marquesas Islands or Mangareva, as part of an eastward migratory trend that originated in Southeast Asia around 2000 B.C. Here developed one of the most remarkable cultures in all of Polynesia.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/R9sHtfgB_XI/AAAAAAAAAJk/O7fVCIklYvc/s320/statue.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5177740674723872114" />

Due to its extreme geographic isolation, many people assume that only the highly intrepid traveler can get to Easter Island. In fact, the island is accessible by regular commercial air service, and tourism is the main industry of the island.

Still, it is rather "out of the way" for most people, with a minimum of more than 5.5 hours in the air from the nearest continent, and very limited routes to get there. The only regular flights are via LAN Chile airlines, several times each week on the route between Tahiti and Santiago de Chile. With no competition for fares on an objectively lengthy and obscure flight, it's a bit pricey.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/R9sIr_gB_YI/AAAAAAAAAJs/0amEZ6fHuz0/s320/easter-island-intrees.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5177741748465696130" />

Hiking and surfing are the big activities here. One of the most intriguing and practical hikes on Easter Island is along the rocky northwest coast from Anakena to Hanga Roa. Horseback riding here is fun and inexpensive. Anakena is too far to go by horse and return in a day anyway, so look upon riding more as a change of pace than as a way of getting around. The area north of Hanga Roa is ideal to explore by horse.

The biggest tourist attractions on Easter Island are, of course, the Moai. Please note that the Moai are archaeological features and should be treated with care as they are far more fragile than they seem. Often Moai will be placed upon ceremonial platforms and burials called Ahu. DO NOT WALK ON THE AHU as it is an extremely disrespectful gesture. Even if you see others walking on the Ahu do not do so yourself.

All of the sites, which can be visited for free (with one exception), are mostly found along the coastline of the island. The exception is the slightly inland quarry at "Rano Raraku". This 300 foot volcano remnant provided the stones for the great figures and is where a visitor can see various stages of the carving, as well as scattered partially-finished figures.

Easter Island features two white sand beaches. Anakena, on the north side of the island, is an excellent shorebreak bodysurfing location with a bit of north swell. Even the 1" waves barrel (it's also possible to surf in the harbor at Hanga Roa and many of the locals do so). The second beach is a gem so hidden, it doesn't even have a name. Found along the southern shore of the island near Ahu Vaihu (along the road from Hanga Roa to Ahu Akahanga), this beautiful and desolate beach is much larger than that at Anakena and is surrounded by breathtaking cliffs. Note of caution: the path leading down to the beach is somewhat treacherous and unstable and best reached by foot - driving off-road (contrary to the misguided and somewhat callous actions of some tourists) on most of the island is illegal anyway.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/R9sNifgB_aI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/0OXoLat4f_U/s320/Orango_lg.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5177747082815077794" />

Scuba diving and snorkeling is possible near the islets Motu Nui and Motu Iti (well known for "The bird man culture") who are located about 1 km. south of the island. There are at least one shop where it is possible to rent the equipment and from there get on a guided tour to the islets.

An often overlooked but particularily fascinating and "otherwordly" aspect of Easter Island is its extensive cave systems. While there are a couple of "official" caves that are quite interesting in their own right, there is also real adventure to be had in exploring all of the numerous unofficial caves on the island, most of which are found near Ana Kakenga. While the openings to most of these caves are small (some barely large enough to crawl through) and hidden (amid a rather surreal lava strewn field that has been likened to the surface of Mars), many of them open up into large and inhibitingly deep and extensive cave systems.

At its opening on May 21, 2005, it became the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world, claiming the title from Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point. The train is launched by a hydraulic launch mechanism to 128 miles per hour (206 km/h) in 3.5 seconds. At the end of the launch track, the train climbs the main top hat tower reaching a height of 456 feet (139.5 m). Due to aviation safety concerns, the tower is equipped with three dual strobes: two mid-way up, and one on the top.

Steel Dragon 2000

Steel Dragon 2000 is a roller coaster at Nagashima Spa Land Amusement Park in Mie Prefecture, Japan. The ride was designed by Bolliger & Mabillard and opened in 1994 in the Forbidden Valley area of the park. It is themed around an entirely fictional legend created by The Tussauds Group (the park owners at the time) in which a monster, disturbed during routine maintenance work, creates a large crater in the Staffordshire landscape, and is necessarily restrained using the hundreds of tonnes of steel that make up the roller coaster tracks. The subterranean aspect of the theme was born of the necessity to build the ride in trenches to reduce its height above the ground, in compliance with local planning restrictions which require Alton Towers to build below the tree line

The bulky it looks, the fuller you may become. Well, not at all times, right? There are these small yet heavy-for-the-stomach foods. For things, size is not really a big deal. Nowadays, the smaller your gadgets are, the hippest they may be. For people, the smaller you are, the more adorable you can be. For hotels? IT DOES.

Ever wonder if what are the best and largest hotels around the globe? We know that you do. If you are out for traveling or a tour, where do you think is the best place you can call home for a span of time? It is of course good to sleep at the most comfortable bed, to eat at the finest table, to meet new faces in the biggest hotels on earth.

The largest hotel is at the womb of Asia. It can be found in Thailand, the Ambassador <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/R36kHahq_KI/AAAAAAAAAHM/iB24f7SaoCI/s320/thailand.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5151735471045016738" />City Jomtien. It is a paradise away from home. Just try to imagine a 40-acre beach singing you waves of lullaby. The mountains also embrace you with its green. All your anxieties are sure to vanish into thin air. You just need a ten-minute boat ride from Pattaya. If you crave for the city-way of relaxation and leisure, you need not worry about it. This is also a complex which has tennis and sports center, business service for those who need one and convention center for those who gather for assemblies, reunions, forums, and so forth. Not to forget, this hotel has the largest swimming pool in Asia. The biggest trivia is that it has a total of 5,100 guest rooms and suites.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/R36lHKhq_LI/AAAAAAAAAHU/WEk07r0Z8tw/s320/grand.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5151736566261677234" />If you are around Las Vegas for some casino or whatever, it will make your trip complete if you try sleeping at MGM Grand Hotel Casino. It holds the title of the second biggest hotel in the world and the biggest in the North American region. You will say nothing but praises when you will see right in your very eyes its four 30-storey towers. What more if you treat your sight with its massive video screens? A huge gold lion is outside while live lions dwell inside the place. Feed your appetite with nine restaurants and two food courts. After Brazil, Argentina is the second largest land mass in South America and 8th in the world. Its bordering nations are Chile in the east, Bolivia and Paraguay in the north, and Brazil and Uraguay in the west. The Atlantic Ocean is in the eastern and southern part of the country.

With its size and location, Argentina is home to several tourist attractions that would boldly define the uniqueness of the country.

The Iguazu Falls, part of the Iguazu National Park in the province of Misiones, Litoral showcases the beauty of water and the spectacle of nature. The falls produce 70-meter plummet and is taller and twice as wide as the Niagara Falls. The horseshoe-shaped falls is the result of a volcanic eruption. Surely your travel in Argentina is not complete without paying a visit to Iguazu Falls.

Also in Misiones is the San Ignacio Jesuitic Ruins. This religious community founded by the Jesuits aimed to bring the Christianity to the locals. He 17th century ruins will show how the community has survived and has lived in during its time.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/R1mEuAeSfdI/AAAAAAAAAGU/hzrCy8WILjs/s320/misiones.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5141286375556021714" />

The Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires is Argentina’s pride and one of few structures that has gained the country its reputation and rights to be called as the “Paris of South America.” The opera house is finished in 1907 with a touch of French, Italian Renaissance and Classical Greek. If no show is presented, visitors can see tour the opera house’s interiors.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/R1mFIgeSfeI/AAAAAAAAAGc/WgJo3iZJHis/s320/colon.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5141286830822555106" />

Also in Buenos Aires is the La Boca, a fancy and colorful neighborhood located near the Rio Riachuelo. “The Mouth” when translated in English is filled with street performers, tango dancers, and tourists taking pictures everywhere.

Meanwhile, a trip in Cafe Tortoni, one of the oldest café where Carlos Gardel, the tango legend and Jorges Luis Borges, the writer spend their precious moments. The 1858 Café Tortoni is the focal point of Buenos Aires’ social life.

Cementerio de la Recoleta is Buenos Aires is the place to go on you Argentina travel if you want to see where Evita Péron lies- wife of the former president Juan Péron with a movie named after her and dedicated for her. Her final resting place is directed within Recoleta neighbourhood, a sophisticated mausoleums where other rich and famous Argentine lies.

Traveling in Argentina would introduce you to tango. And there is no better place to witness the local dance than in San Telmo. The place is once a lonely place for Spanish immigrants. This is where they sang and dance. Men dance with prostitutes. Soon, some respectable women joined in. And as time and people passed by, the dance soon became one of the most recognized in the world: tango. Today, San Telmo still resembles the old Spain with cobbled stone streets and historical buildings but most of all, San Telmo is a unique place where tango is most applaud.

Argentinian breakfast is somewhat light compared to what travellers from English-speaking countries are accustomed to. Hotels typically provide a free buffet consisting of coffee, tea, drinkable yogurt, assorted pastries and toast, fruit, and perhaps cereal. These kinds of breakfasts are also readily available in the many cafes.Given that a large portion of Argentines are of Italian,Spanish and French descent, Italian, French, and Spanish fare is very widespread and of high quality; pizzerias and specialized restaurants are very common. Take note that a convention observed in Argentina is to treat the pasta and sauce as separate items; more than one traveller has found what they thought was cheap pasta only to find that they were not getting any sauce. You will see the pastas for one price and then the sauces for an additional charge.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/R1mF9weSffI/AAAAAAAAAGk/TDZGhDQ0pA0/s320/Buenos%2BAires%2B002.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5141287745650589170" />Cafes, bakeries, and ice-cream shops (heladerías) are very popular. Ice cream cones are eaten with a plastic shovel and the cone is thrown away. It is considered bad form to lick an ice cream cone as is popular in the United States. Inexpensive and high-quality snacks can be found in most commercial areas, and many have outdoor seating areas. Empanadas (turnovers) containing meats, cheeses, or many other fillings can be bought cheaply from restaurants or lunch counters.

http://www.your-argentina-travel.info
http://wikitravel.org/en/Argentina

Peru is bordered by Ecuador and Colombia to the north, Brazil and Bolivia to the east, and Chile to the south. Peru is a country that has a diversity and wealth little common in the world. The main attractions are their archaeological patrimony (pre-Columbian cultures), their gastronomy (the fifth most important one of the world), their colonial architecture (has imposing colonial constructions) and their natural resources (a paradise for the ecological tourism).

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RzOSgKtSd1I/AAAAAAAAAF0/UtZMqosVN2A/s320/300px-Inca_walls_-_july_2003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130605481832904530" />Peru had a rich cultural life thousands of years before Pizarro turned up in funny clothing. The beautiful Peruvian Andes issue a siren's call to top-class trekkers. These mountains are also home to squillions of indigenous highlanders, who still speak the ancient tongue of Quechua and live a traditional way of life.

Peru's climate can be divided into two seasons - wet and dry - though this can vary depending on the region. Temperature is mostly influenced by elevation: the higher you climb, the cooler it becomes.

Peru's peak tourist season is from June to August, which is the dry season in the <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RzOVv6tSd3I/AAAAAAAAAGE/6WCHUnfkjcI/s320/peru_andes.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130609050950727538" />
Andean highlands. It's also the best time to go if you're interested in hiking or mountain climbing. While travelers visit the highlands year-round, the wettest months, December to March, make trekking a muddy proposition. Many of the major fiestas occur around this time and continue undiminished in spite of heavy rain.

On the coast, Peruvians visit the beach during the sunny, humid months from late December through March. The rest of the year, the coast is clothed in mist. In the eastern rain forests, it naturally rains a lot. The wettest months are December to May, but travelers visit year-round; it rarely rains for more than a few hours at a time and there's plenty of sunshine to enjoy.

All are set in stunning landscapes, whether parched desert costa (coast), soaring sierra (mountains) or remote selva (rainforest) overflowing with wildlife. Such a diverse landscape generates diverse pleasures; the visitor can hike through snowy peaks one day, and relax on the beach the next; paddle a dugout through lowland rainforest or hop on a traditional reed boat on some of the world's highest lakes.

On the way to the low jungle in the Amazon Basin, some tourists will find that the <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RzOWgKtSd4I/AAAAAAAAAGM/GnVjAUBdVXE/s320/la_pe_jungle_01_461.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130609879879415682" />high jungle plateau is a good place for them. Especially since it can tend to have a slightly lower humidity level than the low jungle areas. Tarapoto is the most important city in the area, and it is the trade center for the District of San Martin. Tourists aren't croweded into Tarapoto and surrounding cities as might be found in some other locales in Peru, but they are generally treated very well by the locals who welcome their business.

For meat eaters Peruvian cuisine is among the most varied in the world. Not only does the country grow a variety of fruits and vegetables, but it does so throughout the year. Peruvian geography offers at least 8 different climates (desert along the coast, steep and high mountains, the Amazon basin). In Lima, due to its history as an important Spanish colonial port, the dishes are a mixture of amerindian, spaniard, african, asian and even italian influences that contribute to the ever changing platos creolos (creole dishes). Rice is the staple foodstuff, and expect many dishes to include rice, in the Siera it's corn and potatoes, and in the Jungle yuca. Meat is traditionally included in most Peruvian dishes. Chicken (pollo), pork, sheep and beef are common. Alpacas are actually kept for wool, not for meat. Mostly, you will find that alpaca meat is rather tough. Peru had a rich cultural life thousands of years before Pizarro turned up in funny clothing. Wander around colonial cities that echo the legacy of Spanish conquistadors, explore the ancient Inca capital of Cuzco, visit the lost city of Machu Picchu and ponder the enigma of the Nazca Lines. Peru also boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in South America. Peru's peak tourist season is from June to August, which is the dry season in the Andean highlands. On the way to the low jungle in the Amazon Basin, some tourists will find that the high jungle plateau is a good place for them. It borders Brazil to the south, Guyana to the east, and Colombia to the west while the islands of Aruba, the Netherlands Antilles, and Trinidad and Tobago border its northern coast.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RycVi2FVl5I/AAAAAAAAAEs/IO3yOny_wJ0/s320/Ve-map.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127090389162235794" />

Venezuela is a country that is home to a wide variety of landscapes. In fact, when Christopher Columbus arrived on the Venezuelan coast in 1498, he was so enthralled that he referred to it as "Tierra de Gracia" or the "Land of Grace." Even today, the country is popularly referred to by this name.

Venezuela is epic in proportion: it boasts South America's largest lake and third-longest river, the highest waterfall in the world, the longest of all snakes, and some of the most spectacular landscapes you'll ever see.

There are the snowcapped peaks of the Andes in the west; steamy Amazonian jungles in the south; the hauntingly beautiful Gran Sabana plateau, with its strange flat-topped mountains, in the east; and miles of white-sand beaches fringed with coconut palms on the Caribbean coast.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RycZGmFVl7I/AAAAAAAAAE8/VCz3-ji4b9I/s320/Imagen+001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127094301877442482" />

The tourist season in Venezuela runs year-round, but consider the climate and Venezuelan holidays before finalizing your travel plans. Venezuela has a dry season (late November to early May) and a wet season (the rest of the year). The dry season is certainly more pleasant for traveling, particularly for hiking or other outdoor activities, though sightseeing in cities or towns won't be greatly disturbed by rain. Some sights, such as waterfalls, are actually more impressive in the wet season. Angel Falls is absolutely spectacular after heavy rains in the wet months, but may be little more than a thin ribbon of water in the dry season. Furthermore, the falls can be inaccessible by boat in dry months.

Venezuelans are mad about traveling to visit friends, family and the beach over Christmas (through till mid-January), Carnaval (several days prior to Ash Wednesday) and Semana Santa (Holy Week; the week before Easter Sunday). These periods are colorful and alive with a host of festivities, but you may need to plan ahead for accommodation and transport.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RycYL2FVl6I/AAAAAAAAAE0/ghdV1MAWhdw/s320/venezeula08.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127093292560127906" />The country is home to the world's highest waterfall, Angel Falls (about 16 times higher than Niagara Falls), and the world's longest and highest cable car, whisking tourists from the university town of Mérida to the 4,765m- (15,629ft-) high Pico Espejo. The capital, Caracas, boasts fine historical monuments, an excellent collection of museums and art galleries, and contrasting examples of old and new architecture.

Visitors to this country have the choice of a relaxing resort experience, a cultural city break or a wealth of adventurous activities. Whether they wish to experience one, or all of the above, Venezuela has more than enough to offer on all counts.

Travelers in Venezuela are obliged to carry identification. There are military checkpoints on many roads, so while travelling by car or bus keep your passport handy, ideally you should keep a colour photocopy of your passport. Should your passport be stolen, this will facilitate procedures with your local consulate. The military presence is constant, yet is not usually cause for concern. That having been said, there are corrupt officials. It is wise to keep a close eye on your belongings when, for instance, bags are being checked for drugs. A soldier of the Guardia Nacional sometimes plants drugs to solicit a bribe or steal valuables. Penalties for drug use are severe, and the burden of proof falls on the accused, the police may also demand bribes using the same modus operandi.

Today's politics are dominated by President Hugo Chávez, the leader of a coup attempt in 1992, who formed his own party and, drawing on the support of millions of disaffected poor people, won the 1998 presidential election. Despite attempts by the opposition to remove him, Chávez's position remains secure for now. In the 2005 parliamentary elections, his party won a majority of seats in the National Assembly.

There is no national railway system in Venezuela, which leaves three options for travel inside the country: car rental, using buses, and using cars-for-hire. Drivers in Venezuela are generally aggressive and unconcerned by traffic regulations. Thus, car rental is not recommended in general. The very cheap price of gas, however, makes this option fairly economical. The expensive part of renting a car will be the insurance. The bus system is extensive and extremely affordable (in part due to the low price of gas). Bus terminals are hectic, but it is usually easy to find a bus to any major city leaving within a short amount of time. Short bus rides (2 hours) may cost 8,000 Bs (about $4 US), and even extremely long bus rides (9 hours) will only cost 30,000 Bs to 40,000 Bs per person (equal to about $15 or $20 US). The larger buses are typically air-conditioned. In fact, they are usually overly air-conditioned, so it is worth bringing a blanket with you. Buses are an easy and convenient way to get around the country.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RyccC2FVl-I/AAAAAAAAAFU/GaDhzea9iGQ/s320/thumb_buss.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127097535987816418" />If you decide to travel by bus a good option is 'Expresos Ejecutivos' they have their own terminal in a residential zone of Caracas (El Rosal), baggage is checked on the buses (as in an airport). The units are clean, safe and well maintained, plus the drivers are trained to respect the speed limit (there are many accidents on regular buses on Venezuelan highways, most of them caused by speeding on poorly maintained roads). They are more expensive than a regular bus, but still cheap by American/European standards.

For smaller towns, there may not be regular buses. In such cases, one can use cars-for-hire, called "por puestos." These are typically old and run-down vehicles, but they are affordable. They are more expensive than buses, typically costing 15,000 Bs per person for a one or two hour ride (about $8 US). The main problem is that they typically wait to have a full car (4 or 5 passengers) before undertaking a route. The driver will usually try to convince you to pay for the extra passengers if you want to leave right away. The cars are popular, however, and one does not usually wait long for a car to fill up.

Travel within cities is usually via taxi. Taxis are more expensive than any other form of transport, but still affordable when compared to North American or European equivalents. A ride across town will usually cost 8,000 Bs to 15,000 Bs (depending on the city). The taxis do not have meters and will charge more at night. This is normal in Venezuela and typically cannot be argued.

Local buses exist, and usually connect the terminal to the center of each city. They typically cost Bs.500 - 800, depending on the city. Bus routes usually remain a mystery to the uninitiated.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RycZ02FVl8I/AAAAAAAAAFE/Y9Qd05Iu_hI/s320/Caracas.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127095096446392258" />
Caracas has a clean, modern and cheap metro system, currently being expanded.

Among fast food are Arepas (the famous are Reina Pepiada and Domino), Hallacas (you can eat this on xmas), Cachapas (with a cheese called "telita" is delicious), also Empanadas (you can find them in any beach and in street stands, use your good judgement went you select a street place to eat) and the best "Perros Calientes"(Hot Dogs). The arepa is the most common Venezuelan food item. It's basically a biscuit that is made out of cornmeal and you can fill it in with any type of food that you want, carne mechada which is shredded beef and which tastes really good. It is called "comida criolla", or Creole food. For slow food, try delicious fish meals, or shrimp soup Cazuela de Mariscos. The traditional Venezuelan lunch is El Pabellón, but is not usually sell at restaurants, just in small family businesses, is mainly rice, black beans, and meat, it also has fried plantain slices. You can also find nice sweets made mainly of sugar. Venezuelan chocolate is really good, especially from a brand named El Rey.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RycdFGFVl_I/AAAAAAAAAFc/BfGkRatoRTU/s320/51CCMDT4NSL._AA280_.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127098674154149874" /> It's not that cheap compared with other venezuelan prices but it's still cheap compared to American or European prices, and certainly worth the extra expenditure.

http://www.lonelyplanet.com
http://wikitravel.org/en/Venezuela
http://www.worldtravelguide.net

The interior sections of Mexico are full of beautiful mountain cities with Spanish Colonial architecture. These cities will range from large modern cities like Monterrey and Mexico City to quaint pueblos like San Luis Potosi and San Miguel. Virtually all of the inland destinations from Mexico City and on south offer the addition of ruins from a once mighty civilization which rivaled the Roman empire 2000 years ago.The country's past seems to live at one with its present. In Mexico City, the Plaza de las Tres Culturas celebrates the three major cultures that have shaped Mexico: there are Aztec ruins, the 17th-century colonial church of San Diego and several late 20th-century buildings. Even the dead are alive here, at least once a year; on the Day of the Dead, the living bring gifts to their dearly departed and spend the night in their company, remembering and celebrating how things used to be.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RxZ4fkwBQ6I/AAAAAAAAAEk/AgY5uDShoYA/s320/cancun1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122414110016881570" />
Mexico is a traveler's paradise, crammed with a multitude of opposing identities: desert landscapes, snow-capped volcanoes, ancient ruins, teeming industrialized cities, time-warped colonial towns, glitzy resorts, deserted beaches and a world-beating collection of flora and fauna.

This mix of modern and traditional, clichéd and surreal, is the key to Mexico's charm, whether your passion is throwing back margaritas, listening to howler monkeys, surfing the Mexican Pipeline, scrambling over Mayan ruins or expanding your collection of posable Day of the Dead skeletons.

Mexico is enjoyable year-round, but October to May is generally the most pleasant time to visit. The May-September period can be hot and humid, particularly in the south, and inland temperatures can approach freezing during December-February. Facilities are often heavily booked during Semana Santa (the week before Easter) and Christmas/New Year, the peak domestic travel periods.

Mexico's climate has something for everyone: it's hot and humid along the coastal plains, and drier and more temperate at higher elevations inland (Guadalajara or Mexico City, for example). Try to avoid the southern coast between July and September - the resorts are decidedly soggy and jam-packed.

The Mexican Riviera hosts destinations including Los Cabos, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Ixtapa, Acapulco and Huatulco. Each of these cities has a flavor distinct and different from each other. Taking the time to plan your trip ahead of time is the best way to enjoy your vacation. Planning is not only needed to enjoy your vacation, but to stay within your budget, have access to entertainment, and have a backup plan should anything go awry.
If you are on a budget, stick to the small colonial cities where backpackers and the like are able to travel for around $600 to $800 USD per month. Live like the locals whenever possible. That means that if you want to rent a place . . . do as the locals and search the streets for rent signs. It may also help to hire a local (pay them around $20 USD) to help you find a place. Once established in affordable housing, spend your money in the mercado, visiting the local villages, attractions, and partying at the local cantina.

Traditional Mexican food can often be very spicy; if you are not used to peppers, always ask if your food includes. You can measure the quality of food by popularity, do not eat on lonely places, even if they are restaurants or hotels.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RxZ3rkwBQ5I/AAAAAAAAAEc/kH_Ahd1D1ZI/s320/capsicum1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122413216663683986" />
Ask for the "platillo tipico" of the town, this is a local speciality not found elsewhere, a variation, or the birthplace of a recipe, also consider that most of the recipies change from place to place, like tamales, in the south are made with the banana plant leaves, and in the Huasteca region tamales are very big, one is Ok for a complete family. <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RxZ2UEwBQ4I/AAAAAAAAAEU/R5LZFjL6uEw/s320/photo_food.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5122411713425130370" />
Tap water is generally not recommended for drinking. Some people even claim that tap water is not good for brushing teeth. Hotels usually give guests one (large) bottle of drinking water per room per night. Its strategic location, friendly people, warm climate, abundant natural attractions and a very competitive standard of living continue to draw people from all over the world who come looking to enjoy its many wonders.

People

‘Pura Vida’ is the expression that probably best sums up the tico (as Costa Ricans are also known) outlook on life. Roughly translated it means “life is great, everything is ok, don’t worry be happy”. This happy go lucky attitude is readily apparent to visitors exploring this friendly nation, and this combined with its wealth of natural resources probably explains why so many travelers end up making this oasis their home. In a region that historically has been a hotbed of conflict, the Costa Rican people, for the most part, have experienced relatively little bloodshed. This is due in part to the country’s unique historical, geographical and cultural circumstances, as well as to the peace loving nature of its people. This coupled with a large middle class has made Costa Rica one of the most democratically stable and prosperous countries in Latin America.<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RweyDkwBQyI/AAAAAAAAADo/g-4gYesBBBo/s320/surfing.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118255276004295458" />

Natural attractions

In recent years Costa Rica has developed one of the world's most successful ecotourism industries and has been praised for its attention to conservation. Costa Rica’s natural diversity is reflected in the wealth and range of its wildlife. With just 0.03% of the earth’s surface area, Costa Rica possesses 6% of its species. Almost 9,000 plant species have been found here as well as 800 species of birds. About 27% of the country is protected within national parks and protected zones. In Costa Rica it is possible for a person to spend the night in a scenic mountain lodge, then head to a lovely Pacific beach for an early afternoon swim before ending up at a Caribbean village partying the night away. Some of Costa Rica’s most popular attractions are sport fishing, white water rafting, canopy adventures, jungle lodges, volcanoes and beaches. A well developed tourism industry has had to quickly adapt to the close to a million tourists that visit the country every year. Even so, you won’t find hordes of tourists and cookie cutter resorts dotting the landscape. Costa Rica’s is still a land of virgin rainforests, unspoiled beaches and friendly smiles.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RweyXUwBQzI/AAAAAAAAADw/-6uOe_IXcIM/s320/tabacon_hot_springs.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118255615306711858" />

Location

Costa Rica's proximity to the United States makes it one of the most visited eco-tourism destinations as well as a favored retirement spot. You’re just two and a half hours from Miami, five hours from New York, four hours from Houston and about six hours from L.A. Add political stability and year round spring-like weather and it’s no wonder that the U.S. contributes nearly 49% of Costa Rica's foreign visitors with another 9% traveling down from Canada and Mexico.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/RweziUwBQ0I/AAAAAAAAAD4/7-Nkx7xJ3dQ/s320/rana-banano-web.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118256903796900674" />

Cost of Living

Known as the Switzerland of Central America because of its high growth rates, economic stability, and low crime rates, Costa Rica enjoys a per capita GDP of $6,700, literacy rate of 95%, and female life expectancy of nearly 79 years. Costa Rica may not be a cheap place to live compared to most other Central American countries, yet, if you consider its superior infrastructure, comparatively low crime rate and high standard of living, it is still probably your best option. Expect to pay less than the U.S. and Canada for properties, rent, utilities, health care, help and basic transportation. Most people can live on less than $1,000 monthly excluding rent, and this does not necessarily mean giving up on your ‘northern’ comforts. For better or worse, Costa Rica offers visitors many of the same fast-food chains, stores and services that one would find up yonder. These include McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC, Office Depot, Payless, as well as inexpensive Internet and cable services.
http://www.infocostarica.com

Check the boxes under the "Layers" and "Places" sections in the left sidebar to see how people and organizations use Google Earth to share their visions of the world

I typed in his address, the world shifted around, zoomed in, and all of a sudden I could see the roof of his house, the swimming pool in the backyard, driveway and street, trees etc. It was a real mind-blower. One of the best things about "google earth" is that we can now look at real photographs of any part of the world: pyramids in Egypt, Shanghai city, beaches in Jamaica, you can go and look at any place on the globe.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/Rvo0VEwBQuI/AAAAAAAAACI/HVaxg3pbSBI/s320/cuba_2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5114457863489667810" />

If you have been around the Internet for the a while you probably already know about Google Earth. Google Earth is a satellite imagery system that is available for free for your computer. The program allows you to view 3D images of our planet, and zoom in very close to a location. You can search for landmarks, addresses, and many other items using the layers available for it. Something that I have recently started doing (primarily just out of plain curiosity) is using Google Earth to see where I am going to hike.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_x44RCyhEH7c/Rvo0k0wBQvI/AAAAAAAAACQ/lLOppJXrb8w/s320/niemcymonachiumstadionolimpijski.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5114458134072607474" />
By no means does this replace a topographical map, but it is a lot more enjoyable to be able to see where I plan on hiking from the expansive satellite imagery available. All you need is to know the general area of where you are hiking, and you are generally able to find the trail head; by following the roadways to the parking lot. Another option is to download the GPS data for it and Google Earth will plot the location. At www.AlbertaTrails.ca, they actually plot the trail as well, so you are able to follow the path you will take. As mentioned earlier, this doesn't replace any maps that you will need on the trail, but it is a nice addition to your hiking trip.

Don't confuse Google Earth with Google Maps, although Google Maps does offer satellite imagery. Google Maps is a web based service primarily used for searching for directions or local businesses. AlbertaTrails.ca implements Google Maps on their website, showing the hiking trail from a birds eye view. Google Earth is a 3D model, where a user can rotate, zoom in and out, and "fly to" other locations on the map. These two services offered for free from Google are a very powerful duo allowing potential hikers to see where they plan on going before hand. It is also nice to return to your computer after hitting the trails and see where you hiked.

By Nicholas Levey

PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO CHECK Google Virtual Map
