Sejarah Visual Basic diawali dari pengembangan bahasa BASIC (Beginners All Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) di Dortmount College, Amerika Serikat pada awal tahun 1960. Sejak semula Basic dirancang untuk mudah dipelajari. Pada awal tahun 1975 muncul computer pribadi (Personal Computer/ PC) pertama, bermerekMITS Altair. Namun karena hanya memiliki RAM 4 KB, satu-satunya bahasa yang digunakan untuk pemrograman adalah Assembly, bahasa ini sangat sulit untuk dipahami karena perintahnya mendekati bahasa mesin.

Tentu hal ini sangat menghambat perkembangan komputer pribadi. Bill Gate dan Paul Allen melihat potensi yang sangat besar pada komputer pribadi dimasa depan. Keduanya menciptakan BASIC untuk Altair. Ternyata sambutan masyarakat sangat baik dan akhirnya keduanya mendirikan perusahaan sendiri yang bergerak di bidang software yang bernama Microsoft.

Pada tahun 1982 IBM / PC diperkenalkan kepada masyarakat, Microsoft pun membuat sistem operasi MS-DOS untuk komputer ini. Dimana di dalamnya disertakan pula bahasa basic yang dikenal sebagai Quick Basic (QBASIC). Jaman pun berganti pada tahun 1990 era DOS berlalu dan digantikan dengan era Windows.

Dari perkembangan ini akhirnya Microsoft membuat basic versi windows, bahasa pemrograman basic ini dikenal dengan nama Visual Basic 6.0 for windows.

A great idea is to sit back or excuse yourself from the table and wait for 15 minutes before you reach for seconds. If you still feel hungry, then go for seconds, but the chances are, you'll feel satisfied enough once your mind's distracted.

G. Keep hydrated. Water can help you feel fuller. Before going to a party or eating dinner, try and drink at least one full glass of water. This will help keep you from gorging. Water also helps you flush away any unwanted toxins and keep you healthy. Drink lots of water; doing this can actually be very good for you.

However, little by little they are beginning to upgrade their computers and Operating Systems to the latest and greatest 64-bit Windows 7 - but they want to keep using their beloved old software. Therein lies the problem!

The other day I set up a new Windows 7 machine for a client. He was extremely happy and then he said "OK, now let's install my wife's American Greetings CreataCard Gold 5 and my Hoyle Card Games". He and his wife had used these same programs for years and they couldn't live without them!

Well as you can probably imagine, these two programs would not install. Both of these older programs are16-bit and will not install on the 64-bit Windows 7 OS. If my client had purchased a computer running 32-bit Windows 7, he could have run his programs in Compatibility Mode but this function will not work in 64-bit Windows 7.

So, the guy was very disappointed but I stayed as "cool as a cucumber" because I knew that there were several, great, free virtual machine programs that will allow you to run these older 16-bit programs on Windows 7 64-bit.

These are the programs that I recommend (especially #2 & #3):

1) DOSBox (DOSBox is a DOS emulator and only runs 16 bit MS-DOS programs and not 16 bit Windows Applications).

2) VirtualBox (a "virtual machine" that allows an unmodified operating system with all of its installed software to run in a special environment, on top of your existing operating system).

3) VMware Player (a "virtual machine" that will run legacy Windows applications on top of your existing operating system without interfering with the original OS).

Control What Programs Run When Windows XP Starts

When Windows XP boots up, especially if you've owned your computer a while (but even on new machines sometimes) tons of programs start popping up. This can be a major annoyance, especially if they are programs you don't even use! Things like this are examples of why computers can be a curse. The beauty of it is that you can take control. Here's how!

You'd be surprised how many programs are running at start up. To find out and control them simply click START and go to Run. Type msconfig in the space provided and then click OK.

A larger box will appear in the center of your screen and at the top of this box it says "System Configuration Utility." The General tab is already open and is offering you three choices under "Startup Selection." Choose "Selective Startup" by clicking the little circle next to it (a small green dot will appear inside the circle). Ignore the other options under Selective Startup (and do not change their default settings). Do not press OK yet!

Look near the top where all of the tabs are (General, SYSTEM.INI, etc.) and click on the tab that says "Startup." This is a list of all the programs that will run when Windows XP loads. You can use the scroll bar located on the right to look through this list. Simply left-click the scroll bar with your mouse and pull the mouse up or down to scroll through the list.

When you see a program you don't use (such as a messaging program) click the box on the left of its name so that the checkmark disappears. Boxes with checkmarks tell a program to run when Windows starts; boxes without checkmarks tell the program not to run.
