Why QWERTY?

Ever wondered why those 6 letters made your keyboard formation. Why not they just have the 'abcd' layout instead of the qwerty. Well there are a number of logics behind it. The inventor Christopher Latham Sholes used his brain to the extent and patented this keyboard layout. Now I answer Why QWERTY?

The QWERTY keyboard was originally for typewriters now inherited by the computer keyboards.

The keys were arranged in such a manner that the keys which were pressed consecutively their type heads were placed at an distance so that they do not jam up the type writer. Earlier fast typist used to jam up the typewriters.

Alternating hands while typing is a desirable trait in a keyboard design, since while one hand is typing a letter, the other hand can get in position to type the next letter. Thus, a typist may fall into a steady rhythm and type quickly. However, when a string of letters is done with the same hand, the chances of stuttering are increased and a rhythm can be broken, thus decreasing speed and increasing errors and fatigue. These days almost every phone has the QWERTY layout. In the QWERTY layout many more words can be spelled using only the left hand than the right hand. In fact, thousands of English words can be spelled using only the left hand, while only a couple of hundred words can be typed using only the right hand. In addition, most typing strokes are done with the left hand in the QWERTY layout. This is helpful for left-handed people but to the disadvantage of right-handed people. For example the word "minimum" and "pumpkin" could be typed only using the right hand "TRY IT FOR YOURSELF".

Another fact about the QWERTY keyboard is that you can type a lot of words without leaving the same row like the word "Typewriter" could be typed in the same row without jamming the type heads of typewriters.

Google Docs makes viewing the documents even more faster than first downloading them and opening them locally, it is just like service at your doorstep (Yes, in your Gmail Inbox!). It is used by millions of people around the world, now it just got a lot more useful. Earlier it only supported formats like PDF, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint files.

Today, Google has launched a dozen more file types for its viewer:

Microsoft Excel (.XLS and .XLSX)
Microsoft PowerPoint 2007/10 (.PPTX)
Apple Pages (.PAGES)
Adobe Illustrator (.AI)
Adobe Photoshop (.PSD) [Yay!]
Autodesk AutoCad (.DXF)
Scalable Vector Graphics (.SVG)
PostScript (.EPS, .PS)
TrueType (.TTF)
XML Paper Specification (.XPS)

In Gmail, there is a "VIEW" button for all these file types now. ~~Yay! It supports PSD too! :D~~

Google Docs Viewer is available for any website, click HERE for more information.
But keep it in mind that can't create files using Docs. Viewing the PSD file on Google Docs was an unusual but awesome feeling, it is good to have a quick peek on the files before downloading them and cluttering your hard disk with unwanted files.

Angry Birds: So damn Addictive!

Ever since Angry Birds entered our devices, we've stopped thinking about those Farms, Cars, and even Guns! We've been unwittingly stuck to its play-style. But the thing is, we become so engrossed in launching those birds from catapults... That we've never questioned, why birds need a catapult at the first place?! Why do the pigs have eggs, and why do they need 'em?! Why don't we just use the bombs everytime?!

If you are a hardcore Angry player, you know how seriously serious this game can become.

As you go through different levels, you'll come across six different types of birds, each possessing one special power: Multiply, explode, accelerate, dropping egg bombs, boomerang and extra strength. Those pigs laugh on us when we are not able to kill them. And this makes the game even more intense.

We've tried this game Nexus S, and with cute graphics and simple game play, this game can't be counted below Awesome-ness.

You just have drag the catapult string, and break those forts in order to kill the pigs.

This may sound boring, but believe me, it is So Damn Addictive!!

Today People on Facebook are victims of stupid filthy spammers. We all hate spammers, we see false rumors that Facebook would be deactivated or it might face shut down. If Facebook shuts down then Mark Zuckerberg our hero will live on the streets moving here and there and he would never want that. So never believe in such rumors and don't be a victim of spamming by posting these sick rumors on your friend's wall.

Google Changes its Navigation bar

The largest search engine over the web has rolled out a few changes on its home page. They have Made their navigation bar a bit more beautiful. They have done away with those underlined Links at the navigation bar and now they have added more color to it and also a blue bar indicating which service you are currently using. There is even a settings icon on the extreme right. The navigation bar gives google a better look and you all guys might be dying to see it. Below is the screenshot of the new navigation bar.

Facebook photo viewer and Search [Updated]

Facebook's all new photo viewer design has been rolled out to many users now. There is no longer a separate page for every image, the photo viewer opens in a lightbox over the page for the selected image. One major benefit from the facebook's perspective, for this lightbox feature is that, users will not 'loose their place' from now onwards. The 'like' and 'comment' buttons lie at the bottom left corner of the photo box and the comment box sits beneath the the photo. Overall this is a good and fast photoviewer, but we can't open images in a new tab in it.

To revert back to the old photo viewer just remove '&theatre' from the URL.

The Facebook Search is what that has impressed us, it segregates the Instant results into different categories, ie, Pages, People, Groups, etc.

Innovation is what keeps facebook going..! And that is what makes it 'more than 500 million active users'!!!

This is going to be my last post until April. As i need to pass in my exams rather than discussing about it lets discuss about the OS basics that is What all Do we know about the Different bit versions of the Operating system?

How does having a 32bit version or a 64bit version effect your computer performance?

Well If you don't know we will give you the answer for it..

The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the way a computer's processor (also called aCPU), handles information. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system.

Now you know what is the advantage and here comes the second question

How do you know which bit version are you running?

To find out if your computer is running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, do the following:

Open System by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clickingSystem and Maintenance, and then clicking System.

Under System, you can view the system type.
Now you are quite familiar with the basics now What else are the questions ?
One popular question When should i choose 32bit or 64 bit ?
The answer is if you have over 4gigs of ram then 64 bit version would be just the perfect for you.. It would make your computer more responsive and less chances of getting hanged up in middle of work.
How do I tell Which version I am running and if running on 32 bit is it compatible with 64 bit ?
To run a 64-bit version of Windows, your computer must have a 64-bit-capable processor. To find out if your processor is 64-bit-capable, do the following:
Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button , clickingControl Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clickingPerformance Information and Tools.

Click View and print details.

In the System section, you can see what type of operating system you're currently running under System type. Under 64-bit capable, you can see whether you can run a 64-bit version of Windows. (If your computer is already running a 64-bit version of Windows, you won't see the 64-bit capable listing.)

The web was redefined with the coming of IE 9 beta and its HTML5 support but today i am not going to talk about the IE9 beta version or its latest RC version. Today We talk about the Beauty of the web that is HTML5.

But what is HTML5 ?? The answer lies below

HTML5 is a language for structuring and presenting content for the World Wide Web, a core technology of the Internet. It is the latest revision of the HTML standard (originally created in 1990) and currently remains under development. Its core aims have been to improve the language with support for the latest multimedia while keeping it easily readable by humans and consistently understood by computers and devices . Many new tags have been introduced with HTML5 such as the <nav>,<canvas>,<article> etc etc..

But Now the Question arises How is it Different ??

The HTML5 draft reflects an effort, started in 2004, to study contemporary HTML implementations and deployed content. The draft:

Defines a single language called HTML5 which can be written in HTML syntax and in XML syntax.
Defines detailed processing models to foster interoperable implementations.
Improves markup for documents.
Introduces markup and APIs for emerging idioms, such as Web applications.

Html 5 though is not supported on all browsers but that does'nt mean we should not use HTML5

We love the satellite and terrain views you can get in Google Earth and Maps, but shouldn’t you be able to get those views right away on the results page without having to click through to Maps and then click the “satellite” or “terrain” option? Well now, when you’re looking for these specialized map views, you’ll get them instantly on your main results page. New ways to find Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) files

Scalable Vector Graphics (SVGs) are files that describe how to draw the basic elements needed to create an image: elements like lines, circles, polygons and more complex shapes. Unlike the images typically returned by most search engines (for example, JPG, GIF and PNG), SVGs can be stretched to any size without the quality of the image suffering. This makes them ideally suited for things like clip art, maps, logos, flags and scientific diagrams. In December, we announced we were starting to return SVGs in our results; more recently, we made it possible to refine your search to exclusively return SVGs. Click “Images” in the left-hand panel, then "Advanced Search” and then select the SVG filetype. Chrome Instant ready for prime time

Starting from version 9, Google is offering Instant Search capabilities like their website in the Chrome Browser. This means that just like on their website, when you type text in the Address Bar (also called OmniBox), Chrome will open up the Google Instant Search page using the text as query. As you modify the text in the Address bar the search results below will update automagically.

What you need to do is first make sure you are on Chrome 9+ version. Type “about:version” in the address bar to confirm. If not, update to the latest version. Now Goto Chrome Preferences by pressing “Command + ,” on Mac (Wrench Menu->Options on Windows) and in the Basics tab, check “Enable Instant for faster searching and browsing, OmniBox input maybe logged”. It will show a warning, read it and accept it if you are ok with it.

The topic was cloud computing an highly interesting topic... But what is cloud computing... Well let me ask you one question Do you all Cloud compute ?? I'll tell you how you daily cloud compute suppose you attended a birthday party of your friend, you clicked a snapshot of his cake uploaded it on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Photobucket etc then next day you are with your friends, on the go your friends ask you how was the cake you open up your account show him the photo and there you go ."You're Cloud Computing". Cloud computing is basically accessing your information over the web (cloud) anywhere, any place regardless of the gadget you use.. be it smartphones, tablets, palmtops, laptops etc etc...

Facebook Page Gets A New UI

The new Facebook Page user interface (UI) has unified itself with the normal facebook profile UI. Now you have a row of photos above your page just like your profile all the applications have been shifted to the left side of the page. Facebook Page experience has reached a new level. Now you can use facebook as your page, that means you can browse facebook as if you were the Page. For example, I can comment on any other page... R.I.P. Ken Olsen

A Computer pioneer, an inventor, scientist and entrepreneur, Ken Olsen passed away on Sunday at age 84. He was also the Founder and former CEO of Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). His death was announced by Gordon College, Mass., where he was a trustee and board member.

DEC, which was launched by Olsen in 1957, is considered an icon in technology circles today.

In 1986, Fortune named Olsen the "most successful entrepreneur in the history of American business" and was also awarded the National Medal of Technology in 1993.

Olsen was the subject of a 1988 biography, The Ultimate Entrepreneur: The Story of Ken Olsen and DEC written by Glenn Rifkin and George Harrar.

DEC's innovations made there machines accesible to small and medium-sized operations and even individual users. DEC computers also trained and influenced many key people in the field of technology. Microsoft men, Bill Gates and Paul Allen used the PDP-10 to create the first version of the BASIC programming language.

In 1992, Olsen left the company at the request of the board. Robert Palmer, a DEC vice president, took over and set about trying to turn things around.

In 1998, Compaq bought DEC for $9.6 billion and four years later Compaq+DEC was acquired by Hewlett-Packard. (More commonly HP)

A memorial service for Ken Olsen at Gordon College is set for 14th May. A documentary on Olsen is scheduled to be released by the college later this year.

Facebook, one of the biggest sites on earth, celebrated its 7th birthday on Friday (2/5/2011).

Over the years, this network has converted itself from a small University hub to a more than 500 million monthly active users. People spend almost half of their day on facebook supplying loads of embarrassing, funny, emotional, serious, SPAM messages as their status updates.

Back in February 2004 did anyone think that this social network can change the whole internet era?

Zuckerberg's Facebook fan page [HACKED]

Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook fan page seems to have been hacked, with the hacker posting a message calling on the company to transform into a “social business”.

The message, seemingly posted on Facebook from Mark Zuckerberg’s account, was quickly removed (together with the fan page), but not quickly enough to go by unnoticed, receiving over 1800 likes and hundreds of comments in the process.

The message read: “Let the hacking begin: If facebook needs money, instead of going to the banks, why doesn’t Facebook let its users invest in Facebook in a social way? Why not transform Facebook into a ‘social business’ the way Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus described it? [LINK] What do you think? #hackercup2011″

Facebook made no statement about the incident, but if Zuckerberg’s fan page was indeed hacked, it’s a big deal. If the Facebook CEO (more accurately, the PR team who’s handling the page for him) can’t keep his Facebook account safe from intruders, who can?

What should Larry Page focus on now that he is the CEO of Google?

1. Make Android a real usability leader, not just a marketshare leader. I've been using Android a lot lately, and it simply isn't as nice as iPhone or, even, Windows Phone 7, in usability. Heck, even Palm/HP is nicer to use, although they suck for sticking their great OS in such a crappy piece of hardware with a small screen.

2. Get onto the playing field in social. I already have more followers on Quora than I have on Google Buzz. That's pathetic.

3. Fix search relevancy. Many people have shown me places where spammers and intermediaries have totally taken over search result pages. Don't give people a reason to complain and wonder why Google's main business is rotting.

4. Make Google TV something that we HAVE to own. How? Well, if it let me watch YouTube Live that would be one small start. Make a deal with Netflix and the movie industry to have first-run movies on it, while other devices get only the lame old stuff.

5. Find a reason for Chrome OS to exist or kill it. Of course, after talking to Zoho's CEO about the pre-production Google Chrome Notebook maybe the goal should simply be to ship it.

Don't take on too much at once, the company is working great as it is.

Yesterday on 15th January 2011 Wikipedia the free encylopedia turned 10. And how could we resist from celebrating ( Damn we are geeks). We were present at the wiki celebrations held at Recreation Centre Noida sec- 33. We were expecting a great participation but we were clearly dissapointed. People visiting there just to attend a general quiz (which was at the entry fees of 100). Well we hated the quiz part. No IT Questions until the finals Saved Our Soals and boom no one knew the answer except us. Well after the bad part was over finally the wiki celebrations started.We saw a video starring Jimmy Wales which we have already seen atleast a 100 times. Though the presentation on wikipedia was great and we only enjoyed that part of the celebrations. After the celebrations we had a formal talk with the persons representing wikipedia.

When it Comes to work we give our 100% and try to strive for excellence. Last year 2010 was not a great year for us. We studied hard for each quiz and qualified for none. I hope this online quiz will increase the knowledge everyone participating and even ours on how to host a quiz. Google Bangladesh which was hacked on 8/1/11 around 12:30 p.m. IST. The Googles home page was defaced and a page with the tagline Own3d by Tiger M@te was seen.

This Bangladeshi hacker earlier has also hacked the website of Airtel Bangladesh.

Today when I woke up in the morning to see that was Google able to restore their website back to normal, I was disappointed. Though the defaced landing page was cured and the page seen right now is in the screenshots below. To check out for yourself visit google.com.bd

New Year's Eve with the new Google Doodle! But what does it exactly mean?

Google always wishes us our favorite festivals with its awesome doodles!

Today (31st December 2010) we are saying a goodbye to another decade of pride and glory, and moreover its the New Year's Eve!

We all are lucky as we witnessed one of the awesome-st doodles of Google. The GMMXIE (or you can say GMMXLE) doodle. But most of you must be thinking, that what does it exactly mean? No problem, I'll tell you.

Its all 4th standard maths that is required in it. We all have studied Roman numbers throughout our cadet classes.

Okay, so lets try this... 'MMXI' in numerical is 1000+1000+10+1 respectively, which is equal to 2011! And therefore Google welcomes us to a new decade with its G[MMXI]E doodle.

Apple vs. Google

Today, the world is divided into two separate halves, Apple and Google.

Hmm... So lets start with Apple. [Though I hate it the most]

Apple has changed many people's lives, almost everyone in the street owns a Shuffle. Apple owns some very popular brand-names (other than Mac) like iPod, iPhone, iPad. It owns the world's largest music store, iTunes.

Google on the other hand, from the beginning has focused on the Cloud. It started from a search engine, which had something better than Yahoo! and AltaVista.

There is no verb like "to apple", but "to google" is one of the most frequently used verbs by us. Google has shifted the whole cloud networking network from our systems to our phones with its Android OS. Four years ago Google and Apple were just two distinct sectors of the IT industry and now for every other product of Apple, Google has an answer (or vice-versa).

To compete with Apple's [tombstone] iPhone, Google launched Nexus. To challenge Gmail, Apple launched me.com.

These days its the Apple-Google war everywhere like, Safari vs. Chrome, iAd vs. AdSense, iPhoto vs. Picasa, iTunes vs. YouTube, and the biggest of 'em all! The "iOS versus the Android OS"!

By now, Android is the most selling smartphone system [xD]. Google has empowered around 70% of the smartphone manufacturers with its Android operating system. (LG, Samsung, Micromax, HTC)

In the second innings of Steve Jobs (when he came back after he was thrown out of Apple by John Sculley), whatever Apple manufactured, from the iPod to the iPad, were one of the greatest successes of all time, while Google is more into experimenting, it had some greatest disasters like Buzz (everything was public, even our contact details :O ), Wave (I found it interesting but most of the people found it complicated) and some greatest achievements like Orkut (the place where I actually learnt social-networking), Gmail, Google Instant, Street View.

Some of the Google's most awaited and recent products include Google Books, Google Music, its Realtime search function, Google Cr-48 Netbook, etc.

In my final verdict I would like to say that, for me, Apple is kinda expensive, while Google is cheap and it ain't an evil! Apple is just restricted to some limited boundaries while google is focused on Cloud Computing and thus it supports everything, everywhere.
