On-the-Go Comfort

When there's loads to do (before having time off), I've said many times that for me comfort plays an essential role in the outfit choice of the day. So, my selection this time resulted in a convenient pull-on look, which obviously meant knitwear was going to join this colourful fashion concoction.

This is such a comfortable dress that I have always worn as a skirt. I decided to go back to this printed maxi, because of its versatility ... throw on a belt, and add a bright handbag, then the outfit easily becomes a summer casual ensemble!

Although, I only have two yellow colour handbags (I think), however nothing by far as luminous as this one! It's also quite roomy, and was appropriate for packing my snackbars, a pair of flats and exciting new reading material.

Summer to me signifies bright palettes, and cheerful hues. They aren't solely to liven up your spirits when worn, but those encompassing you as well! Between donning the tropical printed skirt and the yellow bag it wasn't at all difficult [for me] to put forth a smile walking happily down the street. You know the burst of joy when you wear happy colours, well it does a fashionista good.

Summer inspires me to be a bit more causal with my clothing than normal. Often with seasonal change it encourages me to analyse items from my closet that have not received much wear throughout the year.

This printed gathered-neck top was one of those items that I acquired years ago. I'm certain when I purchased it I was contemplating whether or not the top would get plenty of wearing moments. But, no! I only wore the top once and kept it I suppose, because it was different from many other casual tops that I possessed.

So, I decided to go for a pink, grey, and black combination (although at first glance the outfit seemed too dark), however an easy bow adornment was the perfect addition to set a more colourful and playful tone.

I'm off to several engagements in the next few weeks that will likely need easy fashion fixes or special occasion attire: weddings, visiting family, summer gatherings with friends, and work related events. This outfit was fitting to prepare for the agenda ahead.

All of this packing and planning had left me exhausted, therefore the only garments that I wanted to wear over the weekend were comfortable ones. And there's nothing like knitwear to give you exactly that!

A Radiant Glow With The Right Accessories

Other than receiving whole milk instead of the non-fat filled latte that I ordered, I must say, the day started off with a tambourine-shaking of a bang! First off, an excellent and very productive meeting: check! Narrowing down weekend plans: check! New trim orders filled: check!

It was one of those days when you say to yourself, "What a fantastic moment!" as you smile cheerfully to strangers for no apparent reason. But, there was more to come ... just after closing down my workstation, I received a call, informing me that I needed to come down for a parcel pickup. What? It was a day earlier than my usual parcel drop off, so I was intrigued.

Vanity + Vintage #15: Sail Away, Sail Away

Despite a busy week ahead, I've managed to get loads of things checked off my weekly tasks list. For me, creating weekly lists helps to keep things that are top priority in line, and how perfect it was to have that feeling of task completion! A calming disposition would accurately describe the melody that captured the feeling, which could easily echo the soothing tone of Enya's Orinoco Flow.

Checking off my list felt quite like a [nautical] triumph: the reward being one that would transport me to anywhere that I wanted to go. So, what did I do with my extra time ... a multitude of things including sewing, baking, blog surfing, and randomly finding mega-bargains on airfare (a top-notch skill to have)!

I'd certainly love to sail away at the moment to a beautiful beach. Although I will not complain too much since I've recently had some needed time-off. But, for now it's back to reality and wearing normal attire ... right, well you catch my drift!

Wouldn't it be lovely to have an extended holiday to your favourite location: a free fare pass anywhere at any time. Wherever that is ... it may be a warm beach for you or a tranquil tucked away cottage in a remote location ― perhaps a place without random city street conversations interrupting your thoughts.

You could just pretend that you're in a nautical setting wearing your inspiration just as I did to work! Here's one of my interpretations of a very casually modern nautical woman. I decided for a not so-typical navy, white and rouge translation this time, instead I added my vintage silk fabric for the wave of colour.

DIY: Bows and Dots

I have been in a bow wearing mood recently, but then again I always love a great bow or bow tie. I wore one today actually! Therefore, this was the perfect time to provide you with a quick DIY.

With having a few more leftover pieces of leather, (and before I delved into new yardages acquired) here's a bow belt that I made a week or so ago. Having my waste not want not mentality, I decided to do something with those extra strips, and also wanted to use the sequins beads that I bought. Mission: To finish off most/all of the recycled leather pieces to make them into an accessory.

Materials:
Elastic- Waist measurement L x 5cm W
Bow approx. 31cm L
Sequins beads-10 pcs.
Closures-metal hook & eye)-2
Heavy duty magnet (optional)-1 pair
Cement Glue- If using magnet
Trim-(Button)-1
Scissors
Tailor's chalk
Sewing machine

Start by cutting wide elastic to the measurement of how you want your belt to fit. Using chalk or a pin, mark where you want the belt to close (for magnet placement), leaving room at the elastic edge for hook and eyes or any other closure placement. I created my own version of a bow by cutting my leather at desired width/length. Then, cut the leather ends at an angle so that the belt could still remain flat instead of having a bulky result when wearing.

I used an antique colour spray paint to make the bow area aged copper, then let dry. Laying the leather flat mark the center back of the leather with a pin or chalk to align one side edge of elastic up with the back of the bow. Make two straight stitches sewing that edge of elastic to the center back of the leather (painted side-up). Secure and cut excess threads. You should have the one side of elastic edge free and the other sewn to the leather.

Next, I folded the leather into desired bow shape and pinned the front closed temporarily. I glued an embellished button to the center of the bow, closing the top edge of the leather, leaving a small triangular space between each side of leather on the bottom. Afterward, I carefully added flat sequins beads to act as my "polka dots" on the belt, then left aside to dry.

Lastly, adding a hook and eye with a magnet closure closure completed the belt! Just use your marking placement done in the beginning to glue one magnet at the center back side of the bow onto the elastic, then add one magnet the opposite edge of the elastic leaving room for hook & eye placement. You may finish elastic edge with a stitch or a high heat stick (which will burn the edges).

Mission: Complete. Aged Bow Belt!
Well, there's still at least one more good piece of leather left, but I will save that one for a ~~rainy day~~ handbag!

Resort Ready

Although I had to work a bit over the weekend, I did have temporary relief by a slight diversion of resort hunting, which involved attending appointments at various places and researching loads of other potential locations ― all planned to be a special surprise for my parents later this year.

It will be for their wedding anniversary, hence extensive planning is required because my siblings and I all reside in such vastly diverse locations. All I can say at the moment is thank goodness for Skype and similarly related programmes that help tremendously for such occasions as these.

Who doesn't love a beautiful resort? Selecting the proper type of resort for them is essential, however all of this talk of resorts influenced me to finally bring out my white trousers. So, I decided to fully enjoy my brunch and do business in a different resort style: comfortable, yet slightly structured, and sophisticated, but with a very simple colour palette.

See and Be Seen: A Bold Brow Business

Let's face it creative packaging and marketing is everything when it comes to any type of business, particularly beauty related. Whether it be a sleek shape, intense colour choice, or minimalism in the typography, these may be additional deciding factors that are involved before the buy now verdict is deliberated.

When a specific item is admired, we dash out of the house chiming to our friends with praises of the newfound beauty loves, which occasionally may even resound of higher octaves than our normal speaking tones. Well, I had one of those days, but it started with a playful double feature film, only the techni-colour was in the palm of my hand.

Anastasia, the same folks who created the Lash Genius sent over their new See and Be Seen beauty set, which included tinted brow gel, an eye shadow duo set, and two candied colour glosses. Before I attempted to open the items, I proceeded to do what I normally do ... inspect the exterior packaging. From a designing perspective, I tend to pay attention to why a company does certain things, i.e., placement of their icon or mere image selections.

Other than the splashes of pink and the vintage Hollywood glam-themed enticement, it was the '60s nostalgia of the 3D Viewmaster that struck me! Remember these? Oh my, how cleverly put together! The Viewmaster that was included in the parcel basically sold me ― it was the gift of beauty brain food providing a thorough rendition of their campaign's must-have items.

It also came with two slideshow cartridges that featured ladies with bold brows, including the one and only Audrey Hepburn and Lily Collins from the new film Mirror Mirror. Hat's off to them for brilliantly putting this marketing together. And, I had not even opened the main parcel at this juncture ... hence the entire point right?

The Beauty Scoop:
*Pros: It's an easy to carry feminine coloured glam set that works good on-the-go! The benefits of the entire set is that you may use each item separately if you so choose; none of them are completely dependent on the other. Certainly, they also work well when used as a beauty team.

ILLUMIN8-Eye Shadow Duo-"On Set:" This was a winner for me because I adore golden eye shadow hues. This had tints of pink as well. I used it on my lids and right in the corner of my eye for an illuminating effect.

Tinted Brow Gel: Initially, I was put off by this brow gel, as many brow gels are always too dark or way too light for me. But, this one is surprisingly great and it sets the brows nicely! *Tip: works wonders with your favourite brow pencil for those in-between times, when there's no time to make an appointment with your regular "brow lady."

Hydrafull Glosses: "Heiress," the warmer tone of pink was my favourite colour gloss in the box, it's also very easy to mix with other lipsticks if preferred, so I was quite the fan of this one. However, "Plastic" was a bit too pale of pink for me, and even by mixing it I found that I much preferred "Heiress."

Both glosses glided on smooth, gave me great lip hydration throughout hours, and came with a flat applicator as opposed to the traditional brush style. I like flat applicators (for this), as I feel it allows you to use less gloss, yet still being entirely effective. Of course, like any makeup, you just have to try it out!

*Cons: At the moment, I don't have any! Therefore, I give this a 9.5 out of 10 from me, because I am able to use 3 out of 4 items, so I'd say it's worth it in my book.

Light Linen Dips: Orange Sherbet

Linen is one of the most loved fabrics in my wardrobe for this time of season. Despite linen's wrinkling characteristics or other reasons people may not admire its qualities it's still truly one of my favourite fabrics to work with amongst others. The coarseness, yet soft hand of the material exudes natural strength to me.

The flax bast fibre is quite versatile and lends itself to be very casual or as elegant as one wants it to be. Think about those art or home interior items you've seen, i.e., pillows, lamp shades, canvases, tablecloths, etc.

I've always adored linen because of its absorbent qualities, and certainly because its one natural fibre that doesn't bother any of my allergies by wearing. It's stronger than cotton and has a wearable comfort that's so unique and unlike any other material.

I remember when I was younger watching many females in my extended family wearing linen dresses, and suits in the humid climate. As a child, it all just seemed very cool to me―; touches of gold jewellery or worldly family heirlooms would become the special dressings to the outfits. But, in actuality the linen was initially worn because of its resilient attributes, as the heat is able to escape and provide a nice cooling breeze when worn.

I had a favourite pair of tan linen wide-legged trousers that I lost in a move when I was a teenager. But, I found this great linen blazer a few years ago at a secondhand shop in Sweden that I've only worn once to replace those beloved trousers. This caught my eye immediately ... it needed that special something! So, given the fact that I have several white blazers and jackets I decided to spice this one up with a dash of orange.

It's very easy to transform a garment and make it your style. For this, I simply did an acid [composite] dye job by dipping my blazer lying in a pool of colour. Of course, like any other dye you'll need to remove excess dye prior to wearing the garment. I wanted/needed a tangerine jacket, so I'm quite happy with the outcome. I even had time to dip some kerchiefs, but that's another story.

If you're a novice with dyeing I'd suggest using small remnants of fabric to start. Your clothing will definitely thank you later, otherwise give it a go and let your lively hues bring you joy!

Garment Graffiti: A Friendly Bunch

Occasionally there's a moment when I channel my inner youth for influence, of course it's generally an outfit for leisure time spent with friends on a much needed day off, or even a rapid excursion to the art supply store! But, this was not exactly one of those days, instead it was simply a day when I took off work a few hours early to meet my Lars (who was in town) for a late lunch.

Our plans were discussed prior to the playful activities that would follow our semi-gourmet early evening treats, which also included playing board games, and intense Wii interludes. Afterward, we caught up with a mutual artist friend who also had extra time that day and wanted to join in the fun.

The energy: Complete bliss, an overall carefree mood ... and stress-free! The attitude of our styles were bold in colour and somewhat abstract. Walking down the street together almost felt as if we were in a live art installation. I decided to go for a graffiti inspired print with easy separates to soften the sting of its saturation.

It is very rare for me to have days like this, however when it does happen it's quite a luxury ― enjoying time with old friends with playing games as a pastime, and pretending that we literally had all of the time in the world. The best part about my day (other than the obvious precious time spent with them) was that between the three of us none of our mobiles rung at all ... or if one did nobody answered the call on our end. And, that is what I call a very special day.

DIY: Neons: Adjustable Chain Necklace

There are a variety of simple ways to make your outfit stand out by accessories alone! Especially, when you have loose chain and gradated thread within reach. Today's DIY is inspired by my appreciation for [neon] colours. Yes, that's it!

Remember this fun colourful thread that I used for my spool earrings? I had a small amount left over and decided that it was the perfect moment to create a necklace. Since then, I've been working on other projects for a couple of my friends (may show at later date), and I wanted to add a few chain styled pieces in my accessories trunk. I was struck by this thread because of its intense and gradual colour change.

Here's the quick and fab how-to!

Materials:
Linking flat chain
Solid colour thread-thick (length of chain + /8"
Scissors
Cord ends or metal tab ends (2)
Needle-nose pliers

I took flat chain and cut it to my preferred length (you may use a measuring tape to see where you want your necklace to drop). Then, with the coloured thread I started to insert thread in every two chain links ... over and under the chain, weaving the the thread through the chain (see images). Next, two knots were made on each end of the chain to secure the thread. You should use thicker thread than your chain width ... depending on your chain width.

To make the adjustable loops/straps I tied a double knot at one chain end (side A) first, allowing the loop end to be extended on the thread's outside edge. Then, on the opposite chain end (side B), I interlocked its thread end with the extended loop of side A, creating another double knot with an extended loop.

To check your straps, you should now be able to pull on both sides to make the necklace tighter or looser. Pull each chain end tightly on the double knots to secure. Use scissors to cut excess from loop ends, but leaving at least .25" on the ends to add cord ends/tabs to finish the edges. Use pliers to attach metal tabs. Secure each tab closed and you're finished!

Casual Fashion Messages

It was a day of necessary tasks, one that could not be put off any longer. A time where the scheduling for the week seemed to only be a pinpoint direction of ending the day with yet another brief scribble onto "the list."

There was a slight urge to make an extra effort for comfort because I knew that heavy walking would be involved. And that's when the wedges came into the wardrobe thought process. I decided to gravitate toward easy stripes for a quick casual meeting and what seemed to be a mountainous errand run.

For times like these a favourite blazer seems to work for most wardrobe problems calling your ears to listen to the little styling voice inside of you. The message was an easy solution to a fashionista's [ensemble] dilemma. And the answer was simply in the wearing versatility.

DIY: From The Girly Files

It's a notable fact that I enjoy everything from an edgy outfit to donning lace, ruffles (frills), and sweet feminine infused accessories.

Occasionally when I'm travelling I bring an inspirational bag with me, but this particular of bag is filled with needle and thread, scissors, glue, and a few random notions from my steam trunk of crafting goods. You never know when someone may need studs, an extra button, or a wire cutter on hand, right! And as a bonus this was the perfect simplistic punch that I needed to get my motivation back!

Without too much time available I decided to take some lace, grosgrain ribbon, and a handful of adorable bears to create a belt. I'm not certain if I was subconsciously influenced by the fact that my good friend recently had a precious baby girl or what? But, pale pink hues and nude delicate trimmings have been on my mind this week.

Note: Sparkle was additionally given to the belt for good measure.

Materials:

Lace yardage
Grosgrain ribbon
Trim (microfiber bears)
Glue-(for fabric or beads)
Hot Glue
Sequins
Scissors

D-rings
Scarf
Needle and thread

I cut the grosgrain ribbon at my preferred length (including waist + measurement tied as a bow) approx. 37in./94cm +/- Then, I placed lace atop the grosgrain, gluing it to the ribbon starting from the center to the outer edges with small dot amounts. Playing with the placement of the bears I finally positioned them around 3-4 finger widths apart. Next, I dabbed bead glue to adhere the drizzle of shine that I wanted, which was the love of sequins placed across the length of the belt to add the elaborate touch that it needed. Complete!

I also found a few d-rings that I used to make a scarf belt. When you're in a pinch and want to rock your scarf a different way just take circular rings or d-rings and wrap about 2.5" of your scarf or any fabric around one side of the ring. If you don't have rings you may also use your bangles. Thinking on your feet will never feel better for those scarf-to-belt moments!

Lastly, make a double straight stitch on the inside of the folded end (where rings are) securing the fabric together. The opposite end is left free to wrap your scarf as a belt to your special styling as seen below. You may do other wonders with just a couple pieces of hardware. In some otherworldly life I'd think of myself as a drummer in a great band with both artistic and fine tuned lyrics. The rhythmic patterns that "we" (you know, my fictitious band) might have made would be subtle with memorable interludes. There would be enticing embraces of colourful arrangements that would also make one ponder happier thoughts ... perhaps even influence a future ensemble of sorts.

Well, I am not in a band, and yes you may have guessed (obviously) neither a drummer! But, I used to want to play the drums, hence the training-wheels of drumsticks seen below. This is what enters my mind when I wear these plaid trousers, because it's just too easy to make them look like clown suit pants. Therefore, I decided to taper the trousers, and given the roomy space that it had initially it completely made sense. Excess may also be let out easily if I prefer a looser fit.

When wearing any type of plaid it's either you commit to it or not. Usually a plaid lover is committed to wearing it and doesn't mind standing out considering its daring aesthetic, because there's a proud plaid moment that eventually happens.

Plaids can be as intimidating as wearing flashy brights or colour blocking to some people. However, the beautiful part about expression in one's clothing is that even a very shy person can wear bold and bright colours or enormous prints that scream "hey, I am in control!" The same goes for an assertive person who dons a soft delicate palette of muted tones. I tend to like the nice surprises that are hidden in the melodies of people's clothing style.

In every thread, silhouette selection, simplicity of jewellery or shoe choice we create our character flow of style. We choose who we want to be daily: the dapper gent, a biker chic, the romantic, bohemian beauty, or even the classic sophisticate. Yet, still in our own way we add note after note by our selections to exude the ultimate score ... our style.

Though we may all wear the same colour or pattern on any given day there's nobody who wears it exactly like you! You don't even have to walk a certain way, just merely wearing it on your body makes all the difference. Hi, I am casually wearing plaid today and loving it!

Block Party: Hue-Rocking

Dearest colour, I adore the sweet emotions that you evoke when I'm wearing my favoured hues. Though, some days I must admit it may seem that I am biased between you all (likely because of seasonal transitions), but I truly love you all the same. But, yellow? Well, that's on an entirely different level of admiration.

I've actually always adored the colour yellow, and blue since I was a child ... not a heaping amount has changed except for the simple fact of being more experimental with hues in general (throughout my wardrobe) regardless what's in fashionably.

DIY: Easy Tricks To Give your Garments a Kick

I've had a few items buried in my closet that needed to be kicked up a notch or two. Naturally, as you may know I always want to get the most usage out of my garments, hence the revamp of this lovely textured turtleneck. This cropped knit has been a favourite solely because of its colourful detail, but I honestly have not worn it in years.

Although the beautiful yarns throughout this knit appealed to me, the silhouette is actually a bit constricting when worn. I decided to put these threads through minor surgery; I made a small incision in the center of the body to create a cardigan.

To secure edges fold over and stitch. (you can use twill-tape or binding if you don't want to fold over the edges) ... I used binding as a facing and added top-stitching. I finished with adding 2 different styles of buttons for an artsy edge. If your'e not sure that you'll like the buttons that you've chosen try taping them to the garment to see a good visual. A semi-autumn knit transformed into an accessible spring piece. End result: very satisfied!

There are times when you need to donate garments that have not been worn in a while (I fully support that)! However, there are also moments when I get inspired to give an item one last glance to decipher if there's anything that can be done for future wearing. Little tricks to freshen up a garment always provides me with other inspiration for new projects.

If you love tank-tops as much as I do then you probably have a plethora of colours and styles. Here's an easy way to liven up a simple tank: Take an appliqué or crochet piece and sew it to the top edge of your tank. (Make certain to press your trim flat before application.) I used cotton crochet pieces that I already had, and hand-dyed them black.

Many crochet pieces will come in natural or white, so this allows you to custom dye any piece. If you don't fancy dyeing, buy an applique or beaded trim piece to achieve the same result. I also use this trick on printed garments. It works wonders and gives your tank a complete face-lift!

Have you ever gazed at an article of clothing (similar to being served a bland entrée), perhaps looked at a simple jacket or a classic silhouette pondering to yourself, "If it only had a special button or eye-catching trim then I'd buy it." You might purchase the item anyway hoping to digest it with ease over time. But, the flavour didn't change did it?

The allurement of garments are not always because of its fibrous structure or rich colour. It may also be the paired dressings (trim selections) that trigger our hungry fashion appetites.

We're all struck by diverse elements when it comes to clothing details, and you know that I love foxy embellishments! With a love for detail, (even in simplicity of scale) I've found trims have the ability to carry a garment to it's highest degree of wow-factor!

From a designing perspective trim selection (just like acquiring the perfect shoe) is essential to making or breaking an outfit or garment rather. Most certainly there are other factors to consider: one's independent style and how those trims are worn.

This can be difficult for me at times, as my love for accessories and garment embellishments tend to want to play a balancing act like the weighing of a healthy meal. Apparel trimmings to me are like proper table settings for the main course of an outfit ― the dressing for a fashionably low carb. vs. high protein devouring. The charger plate speaks for itself.

A shift dress in a solid colour of taupe or purple could be deemed as very basic because of its hanger appeal. A needed trim in this case may not be an obvious bauble, instead the novelty might be within the actual material or print. For example, glitter embedded within a print or metallic thread displayed as pick-stitching. These are all embellishing attributes that give a garment the ability to stand out.

Some people may think embellishments may have their place only for special occasions, however in today's fashions we see "day-glam" ensembles, and "night-on-the town" looks that anyone can don at any given time. Don't be deceived by the word "trim," because it can be interpreted even in the smallest details like a contrast placket made of lace fabric on your woven shirt.

All things considered whatever trimmings, and dressings it is that you select choose them because you love them, not solely because it's the trendiest thing to do. Nevertheless, that love may in fact be the latest craze of the moment, and that's okay because it's YOUR pop of style that should be represented. And if it happens to be an artistically exaggerated trim or an enormously studded dressing, well there's only one thing to do ... OWN IT!

Pastels: Hit Me With Your Best Shot!

An artist has a canvas they may paint, envisioning potential works of what might end up as their masterpiece. For me as an artist (and fashionista) often those inspiring works are worn by my own physical canvas displaying my mood or even expressing a seasonal greeting.

Pastels and charcoal are possibly one of my favourite art mediums to use, so it wouldn't entirely be unexpected to see one of those mediums interpreted in my clothing. Alas, I've been struck by these delicate and charming colours.

As you can imagine pastels are rocking my fashion wardrobe at the present moment. I've not been showcasing my adoration for these pale hues as much as I'd like to, but rest assured all pastel and neon items from my closet are in good spirits.

I've had this bag (above) since I was a teenager (or something like that) ... obviously a long time ago! This woven floral bag gives off nostalgic spring and summer feelings that I cherish.

This dress so easy to wear ― the fabric is light, but silky smooth, and the body of the dress allows full capacity for a marvelous twirl or two ... if such a moment is needed. Of course, there's always time for a classic twirl.

I liked this quote (below), because I think all seasons are special in their own way. Though, my favourites are probably autumn and spring; I believe this sums up weather from a different perspective nicely.

Haven't we all occasionally yearned for an opposite climate than we actually have? Then, we get the climate wanted, yet in time long for another when we're tired of it or rather when we're ready for the temp-shifting of our fashion garments. Diverse climate makes for a fabulous wardrobe you know!

My ... Testing, Testing: 1, 2, 3: The Lash Genius

Oh Lord, not another review by a fashion blogger!
Sit tight and keep your skirt on! All jokes aside let's be clear, you know that I don't like jumping on the bandwagon, (because you know it would be a Concorde) and you may have seen several reviews on this, but it wasn't mine. This was too interesting and I wanted to give it a try! Just like certain lipsticks or any new item ... you don't know until you've tried it yourself!

Being a beauty product enthusiast I love putting cosmetics to the test! Certainly, sometimes they work and sometimes they may not live up to the marketing hype. Normally I'm very selective when it comes to specific beauty products because of my allergies. But, I decided to give it a go when I received a parcel from Anastasia of Beverly Hills because it was pretty intriguing.

I've used their products in the past and liked them, but this was absolutely far different than what I've used before. Anastasia calls it the Lash Genius; it's essentially a top coat sealant that protects your mascara. It's waterproof and glides on clear.

What? Yes, I wondered this as well pondering if something like this could in fact work: those times when wearing fun make-up dancing the night away, standing in the rain, or if I just happen to be having one of those tearjerker moments during a movie night. Right, then. Here's the verdict:

After I applied my favourite mascara and waited for it to dry I used the Lash Genius as a finisher. My lashes are already quite long, so I'd say if you want a super "dramatic" effect you could easily use false lashes or a higher volume mascara brand with this as well. I used it with Maybelline's Falsies mascara for the first time, then a thicker type: Volum'up by Agnes b., as well as Lancome's (regular Hypnose) the next few times. Whichever your "go-to mascara" is, use that!

Cons made into Pros-
Some people say that it's hard to take off ... given the fact that it's "waterproofing" — yes, it was a bit difficult in my first use to remove it (with regular make-up remover), however after the second usage the beauty wisdom fairy ~~whispered,~~ no yelled in my ear, "use your make-up removing towelettes woman!" Hello! This completely solved the minor issue at hand and allowed me to carefully remove at the root of the lashes.

This formula stays like a second skin, so you will definitely need to take it off securely.

*Good tip:
I believe it also depends on what brand of mascara used initially, because I found that with some brands it was easier to remove than others. Interestingly enough, using it with Maybelline Falsies made it more difficult for me, so I used other mascaras and it worked great! But, that's just me. I don't like clumpy eyes, do you? FYI: The Lash Genius itself doesn't clump at all.

The next day I put it through tests: facial water splashes, tears of excitement (only because there was no rain where I was) ... it survived through date night, extended work hours, and even a heat infused environment, all with the caution of using the brilliant tip stated above.

Pros-
It's easy to use, instantly waterproofs any mascara.
Another cool factor that I noticed was that it actually improved the look of my lashes. I decided to use one side with the Lash Genius and one without going about town.

Since I have no problem talking to strangers I asked a few random folks (the fashion-friendly with fabulous shoes) and they did notice a difference as well. I also used this without mascara, merely because it seemed to work nicely alone. But, thou shall not waterproof naked lashes should they? Oh well, I did!

Would I recommend this to a beauty gal to give it a try? Yes!

I'd give this an 8 out of 10 only because I am an on-the-go kind of lady, and this would add an extra step to my beauty routine. Okay, okay, 9.5 it is!

You gotta love the things we ladies do for pretty! I hope that you enjoyed this lovely beauty distraction for the day.

Hello: It's Spring

Hello dears! Here's an old jersey dress that I made during my art university days. It's also a part of my crafty purple dyeing project that I discussed with you previously. I am always filled with excitement during seasonal transitions.

With the changes in climate and style of dressing it allows me to grab inspiration in a mere thought of a considerably warmer temperature. Though the sunshine and meteorologists tend to fool us every so often I always hope for the best ... for fashion's sake!

It's no secret that I adore all colours, and violet hues have certainly been on my wardrobe radar lately, in addition to mint, orange, and yellow.

People often ask me, "what's your favourite colour?" I used to say yellow and blue, then grey had its moments. But, throughout the years my hue favour has evolved into an assorted fashion potion. Depending on the day, my mood, or local climate it just varies.

I think I've simply taken them all; tailoring the colours to my [custom] style mixture, which may sometimes resemble a Mauve Martini Monday, a Teal Tony Tuesday, or even a Saturated Savvy Sunday — Beautiful, artfully chaotic, sophisticated, modern, dated, yet easily digested. And just like that ... a gulp of colour brings a smile to my face. Today, it's purple!

Tell me, do you have just one favourite colour? Even if it's a colour that someone says is not the best on you ... do you still wear it? You already know my answer to this one, so I'd love to here yours.

Camouflage Denim: A Different Casual

Not long ago after I had been asked by my friend Aaron to do a class on textile dyeing for his art students I decided to start with a quick session for my close friends. It gave me time to do a pre-teaching class before I actually went on with the real thing — I wasn't too keen on the idea in the beginning. It's been a long while since I've taught a crafts class, but my nervous energy developed into a much calmer and comfortable feeling in the end.

Fortunately the class went very well, as the artful teenager's attention seemed to be held by the subject nicely. Afterward, I showed my temporary pupils a few other dyeing examples, including these jeans (above) that I had finished. "I want those!" yelled one young girl." I was quite surprised because though I loved them, a couple of my friend's asked if I was going to wear them out! Of course, I was! I will forgive those two people, as fashion is not their focal point in life. (Joking!)

Aside from the comical relief that I apparently provided for a couple of folks, I was very happy for the outcome of my denim stone-wash project.

How to Get the Camouflage:

All that was needed was coffee, bleach, water, and optional bands. I used charcoal, not black old denim jeans. First soaking in coffee, then sporadically spraying bleach on the front and back. Let them rinse in washing machine. After it finished spinning, I then poured a large amount of coffee in random motion preferably in a few of the bleached areas (this creates a layering, marbled effect). Be mindful of the crotch and bum areas. Wait approx. 30 min.

Next, I rinsed the denim again, and this time poured around 1 cup of bleach and water on front and back areas, focusing on the parts that you want lighter (This part of the directions works best if done when denim is loosely scrunched all together with rubber bands). Let it sit for about 3-5 minutes and wash/rinse. *Do not dry denim until the last step is finished. Please be careful when bleaching and dyeing textiles, if you are not experienced seek expert advice.

Several days ago I received a couple of beauty parcels, one being from my mother. It's great when something comes to you at the absolute right time. About 10+ or so years ago my sister introduced me to Yves Rocher, a French cosmetics company.

They sell worldwide and have an array of [affordable] diverse products. I've only been to one of their actual standing stores when my sister lived in Austria, which was nice because it was great to see loved products up-close and personal instead of merely on a computer screen.

For some reason I had forgotten about this company, probably because there's loads of on-line sites that I frequent now, but it wasn't long until I was warmly reunited thanks to the beauty parcels sent to me.

When it comes to make-up, for me it's always a bit difficult to find an excellent colour pigment match, however over the years I have found a few great brands that I do love. But, just like the changing of the seasons, my skin changes as well, therefore it's typically between a couple different shades and depending on the location/climate my skin just changes anyway!

So, I was extremely elated to see this sheer foundation/tinted moisturiser in the package. I don't typically wear foundation, I usually stick to light powders or bronzers - the very quick and easy solution. But, this doesn't feel like you're wearing anything at all, and goes on smoothly.

There was also kohl liner in the beauty goodies bag, which I love! But, enough about that here's a few other treats that was included.

This is in sunny beige, basically perfect for me!

I have already made good use of the creamy kohl liner, which she says was a free-gift.

Restorative lip care: Lip balm glide with shea butter (above) It smells good, and works wonderfully!

Smooths on like dust!

This sparkle powder creates an illuminating effect, can be subtle or dramatic, depending on your preference: Made with virgin almond oil. It's growing on me, however at the moment I am a little too impatient to get it's full benefit, but I was able to use it once. Perhaps I'll use more for a night on the town!

Of course, it's a bit different for me because I've been a long time Yves Rocher customer. In case you've never heard of Yves Rocher, I'd recommend grabbing their catalogue, or browse briefly on-line to see what products they have.

You may also check your location, because they might also have a standing beauty store near you! I love trying new items, especially when it comes to beauty.

An added surprise was from another company that I loved! It was the Hydra Mar Paraben-Free Face Scrub by Dead Sea. Skin rejuvenation: thumbs up! I found that you may buy it here!
