It's always wonderful to come across local artisans and independent designers who have such a passion in their body of work. I thought that I would share a few under the radar designers that I am loving at the moment. These accessories designers all tell a unique story in their pieces, which are influenced by everything from their cultures to mere shape and colour.

Tel Aviv based designing pair Gili Rozin and Adi Gal produce artful jewellery and accessory pieces with a youthful and modern sensibility. I love the irregular shapes created in the pieces, just as in their oversize, yet lightweight black chandelier earrings with chain, and in the shell-like earrings that could also be interpreted as the outline of floral petals.

You'll find textile impressions as well as colourful and daring combinations in their works ... all wearable! MeDusa uses an industrial technique in their handmade pieces with processed plastic that's quite different than traditional jewellery making methods. Art Inspired: Fashion Potpourri

We took loads of photos from the countryside, but instead of boring you with those perhaps I will save some for a rainy day. Here's one of the outfits that I wore for a breakfast feast. I figured that adding layers would be a fun way to release an extended hi-five to spring and welcoming of summer sunshine, although slightly breezy.

This outfit was actually partly inspired by this painting that I saw some time ago, but didn't think about it again until recently. I really wanted to remix my cardigan again since I adore the emerald colour, additionally I wanted to have fun with prints and patterns.

It's a mere nature medley of patterns, but in an abstract sense ... also a great way to explore and understand part of my art perspective relating to my wardrobe. Art is all around us, and I am truly inspired everyday in some way. What about you?

Retro Comfort

I have been waiting to bring this romper out again for some time, but wanted to wear it a different way than I normally have in the past, hence my new cat-eye frames. Then, there was this cardigan that I picked up years ago and have only worn once—a knit that surprisingly has amazing embroidery on the front and center back in a floral pattern.

The romper is a retro wide-legged style that really demands some confidence when wearing, given the fact that it’s pretty much held together by elastic smocking as it embraces its very roomy silhouette.

So, yes, I decided to renounce the heed of what others would think and went all in, wearing this enormous and more than generously forgiving style confidently! There are certainly days when style structure is fine and needed, or even when you fancy donning shoe elevation at its finest. But, then there are other days like this, when you just want to feel comfortable and free—a day of flexible style! Do you know this type of day?

Sounds like: your work mobile ringing incessantly as you check your inbox flooded with mails only to be topped off by two RSVP invites that you entirely forgot to send in. Oh, let’s not forget the fact that you still have not unpacked your suitcase from the recent business trip! But, it’s all good, the sun is shining and you get interrupted by your (other mobile) alert telling you that your BFF is waiting for you to be picked up at the airport.

This all happens simultaneously as you remember that you also forgot to eat lunch. Thankfully, that Lärabar in my large handbag (you know, the fabulous one equipped with a false bottom and everything) saved the day. I didn’t think that I could do back-flips and cartwheels in a romper … mentally! Perhaps, I have spoken too soon …

The Beauty Files: Cyrine Aromathérapie

Having a skincare regimen is definitely important, and even more so with seasonal changes and an on-the-go lifestyle. And, that’s why I love to try-out new beauty products!

I received a small sample of this new skin cream from Cyrine Aromathérapie, a London based beauty company that also provides health and wellness treatments. This is a balancing vitamin-rich face cream. At first glance, the beautiful packaging caught my eye as well as the personalised label, “Madison’s face cream.” Yes, excellent attention to detail is always appreciated!

Founder, Cyrine Ayoub created the Cyrine Aromathérapie skincare line with the objective of helping people and beautifying their bodies. She uses the natural influence of plants to produce a diverse range of products that can be customised, i.e., by combining essential oils or the option of gift labelling each product.

So far, I have been using the cream and it has a few instant benefits: my skin does feel smoother and the aroma alone is feminine and lovely, which smells of beautiful floral––rose geranium petals. It also glides on pretty easily when used, like a rich lotion and blends clear.

At the moment the only thing that I can say that I would want is more, more, more!

With a childhood of French-Tunisian surroundings it was only natural for Cyrine to go back to the natural therapy of plants and expand upon it, as she studied aromatherapy and massage. “I wanted to help people heal their bodies, calm their minds and revive their spirits,” said Cyrine.

I would recommend the vitamin–rich balancing cream, and I cannot wait to try more of her products giving the attention to including natural plant healing elements and essential oils. “My aim is to continue to develop and learn so that I can share my knowledge with others and help them on the journey towards a naturally healthy self,” said Cyrine.

If you’re in the area you can even make an appointment with Cyrine from natural facials to full body massages … which is absolutely right up my path! I am interested in trying the “thrive-in-winter” massage in the future; it includes bergamot, rosemary, and cedarwood to improve the immune system and purify toxins in the body!

Day to Evening: Floral

This past week has been quite an intense one work-wise, but it all resulted in such a great way! There were times throughout the week when it even felt a bit difficult to keep up with news, online activities, and blog reading. When this occurs I find that's when a little relaxing session is in order. So, I did exactly that ... not in the conventional sense. This particular time, it was more of a sewing studio session followed by gourmet cooking in the kitchen with new and longtime friends.

I wore this outfit weeks ago to visit a friend in the countryside. I decided to add a colour blocked top with minimal accessories this time, which worked out perfectly since we were off to attend an art showing in someone's beautiful backyard garden that day.

I haven't brought out this skirt as much as I would have liked to this season at all; although I do believe I gave it a fair amount of wear most of last year. Sometimes it's not only a print that strikes me, it's the rhythmical combination of colours!

This skirt is one of those sweet melodies of romantic floral that can easily set the tone for a lovely day. I suppose it's because of the simplicity in the silhouette. A marvellous above-the-knee flare skirt certainly doesn't hurt a fashion welcome to summer, even for only a short-lived sun break in the day.

80s Inspiration: Gone and Back Again

There's nothing about the eighties that anyone have not (at least once) shied away from in some way, fashionably laughed at, or eventually donned for Halloween at some point. Whether it be the almost blinding hues in clothing, the teased hair, or taking it too far with the "smoky eye."

But one thing is certain, thankfully we've got to give it to technology, and fashion's ever evolving objective to turn some of the garish attributes of the eighties into modern styles of refinement. Today, and even within the past few seasons polished neon colours join the same closets of owners with fingerless lace and leather gloves, and super-sized layers of tulle skirts of candied pastel colours.

Here are a few elements of the eighties that have actually made a comeback, and some that are more of a stylish makeover for the better! From crop-tops to high-contrasts, there really seems to be something for the bold and daring, but also the more conservative fashionista.

Österreich: Alternative Snapshots

I am pretty much the type of person who enjoys every minute of being on a getaway, even for a small amount of time. Thus, there's quite a lack of photography booklets in my home archives. But, that's what having a holiday is all about—relaxing without stress of carrying what is now often referred to as typical "blogger essentials."

Although, I do prefer physical photos captured to remember good times, there are those impromptu moments that are forever embedded in my mind. These are the moments that we all wish could be captured on camera, but instead are best left mentally treasured by those who were present. And, that's okay!

Those memories are the ones you speak about in a room filled with friends as they listen to you with excitement as you tell your stories of travel and spontaneous ventures proclaiming, "well, you just had to be there!"

These images are a few that I took when I went to visit my sister again in Austria a while back. I loved the black and white photo, which was taken walking about in the city streets in route to a cafe.

These few images were so random. In fact, many were the ones that I sifted through initially and almost tossed aside because of being overwhelmed with 400+ other unrelated images to speedily browse through. But, I was happy that it was a rare time for me, (then) actually having my camera by my side. Of course, these days I always have a camera in my handbag, if not, at the very least there's always the handy iPhone, right?

Weekend: Inspiration and Summer Seasoning

Happy Friday!
With the impending summer of sunny and dramatic entrances, there is also much to love for the fashion season! Whether you're excited for holiday excursions, grilling gatherings with friends, or simply quiet time with hopes of a wee bit of pampering ... ahem, the season is upon (most of) us, and for those who may very well be in a slight chillier climate wishing for warmer days, here's a few summer infused elements of inspiration.

LOVING // FLORAL SPRINKLES:
These Kate Spade handbags are an obvious winner! I am already a longtime Kate Spade customer, but the new arrivals in the online shop had me gloriously dazed for summer! I think I spent nearly every work break this week peeking at items that I wanted and loved.

Nothing says, "look at me, the bold and confident woman," better than bright colours and pattern amazement! A perfect accessory to pair with your maxi dress or nautical layering pieces! Of course, if you're like me then you might also risk a style-dipping session in all white with sparkles of gold! Yes, go brave, not boring!

LIFE // RANDOM SEASONING:
What's been going on this week? I found out earlier in the week that another close friend of mine will be moving to Brisbane. Although, I am very sad to see him leave, I know that this will be a wonderful transition. Just within the past year a great amount of my close friends have headed to New York and Austrailia. My thoughts: clearly, I need to make a special trip in the near future.

Since, I have been way too busy to do new outfit shots, here's one that I wore some time ago. I wanted to add studs or something a little darker as an embellishment to my denim jacket, so I opted for using a pair of earrings! I took my cross-earrings and put them at the ends of my jacket collar. It entirely works the same! I also do have new trimmings that I have been working on, however at the moment I'm uncertain when I will actually get them up, perhaps more Insta-previews soon. For now, please enjoy this small preview of creativity ...

Sport and Lace Prep

Remember this lace dress that I dyed, cut, and reconstructed? It's been some time since I've worn it and given it fashion love without having to wear loads of layers combined, all due to colder climates. I decided to wear my lace with a sport jacket this time to give what would typically be a casual and sportier look, a bit more polish than normal.

The jacket is made of sweatshirt material, which also had a baseball patch of some sort, but I added my own crest patch atop, giving it a personal touch. I mean let's face it, I love sport, however I have not the slightest clue on what's happening in baseball at the moment! I just know that I like the jacket, the striped ribbing along the neckline, and tan colour ... that is all! For some reason, sporting my own fictitious team (crest embellished and all), seemed perfectly suitable!

How was your long weekend, did you do anything spectacular? To be honest, I probably had the best restful weekend. I ate well, and laughed so much that my abdomen had a full workout on its own, and even managed to get some sketching done in my handy "ideas" notebook. It was nice to be around friends and loved ones, especially when they bring nothing but smiles to your face!

In short: a grand way to start off a new week. I suppose, the only thing to top it off would be to go vintage shopping!

Designer Spotlight: Ocular Jewellery

Earlier this year, I introduced you to UK emerging designer Lianna Sheppard, the talented creative behind the jewellery and accessories line, Ocular. It was only a matter of time when both of our schedules would allow us to finally chat in depth about her collection amidst us both enjoying an early morning cuppa.

The brand itself, just shy of three years, has already gained the spotlight in many fashion magazines, including Cosmopolitan and Fabulous. Her unique pieces have also been in Selfridges–in Supermarket Sarah’s shop. And, why not! She goes for the bold and does so quite confidently in her designs. The collection? Imagine dipping your Crayolas into a new shade of fearless!

“I adore colour! Everything I wear is sort of colourful, and I love geometrical patterns, shapes, and forms. Back at college, I was into flowers, and one day I just sort of put more [emphasis on] geometric forms and sculptural shapes. But, I’m probably rebelling a bit against myself because, for my Masters, most of it was black and white. The work that I did [during] my B.A. was really brilliantly colourful, so I think I was craving a bit more of that,” said Sheppard.

Sheppard’s use of line and colour stimulates the artistic mind. The pieces create a graphically driven and attention-grabbing-in-your-face result that’s loved by both, risk-taking fashion devotees as well as the much intrigued art-enthused. The Ocular line has mathematically influenced accessories that take on a 3D aesthetic, yet merely being a flat wearable accessory.

“I wanted to do something for the guys as well. The pieces that I make earrings for, I thought they could actually make really nice cufflinks,” said Sheppard. And, how timely since men’s fashion has been smartly colouring outside the lines in recent seasons. Fittingly, the cufflinks have become a big hit all on their own!

In brief, Sheppard takes a little bit of this and a dash of that to a whole other colour block level. It even looks to be intensely complex, yet in actuality it is hardworking hands, simple lines, and daring colour that is purely the basis of this flourishing collection. That’s right! Every piece is produced and even etched by the designer herself!

“All of my pieces are laser cut acrylic. I design all of the forms on my computer on [Adobe] Illustrator. Then, I get them hand cut, say what colours I need, etc. After I get all of them sent back to me, I organise them all by piece, size and colour, and put them together in my studio,” said Sheppard.

Summer Neutrals: White and Gold

Although I do love a wearing white and minimal outfits for summer, it's not very often that I don myself entirely in white from head-to-toe. There are several interpretations that I have found comparable to many white ensembles that give off feelings of "holiday" excursions, "resort attire," or just luxe style for relaxing in comfortable threads!

If you want to subtly amp up your look in an alternative way, I have done so by adding beige, tan, and golden hues in this outfit.

Find a blouse or tank that has neutral colours or embellishments, and make that the focal point to style your entire white outfit around. Additionally, you may always opt for a printed scarf as a base accent to tie in your white pieces together as well.

I really desired an outfit that was casual, yet one that also evoked a tad of sophistication. I wore this a little bit ago on the weekend to see a client friend. It was one of those days that I wasn't exactly in the mood to wear a dress, so elements of texture (sequins) and adding accessories (Lucite jewellery) immediately spoke to me. Simplicity doesn't necessarily have to be boring!

Progressive Joy: The Remix

I will start by shouting from my perfectly landscaped virtual rooftop to say, yeow! What a week it's been! Of course you may have noticed my delay in blog-land, but I promise you it was worth it! Special thanks to those of you who sent me extra lovely messages, that is always appreciated!

The week was filled with the usual business of marrying tight deadlines, chaos, and excitement together as we all began to do what I call, working miracles with budgets and margins once more in meetings. Yes, so glamourous, I know. However, the glam trail did not stop there! I received wonderful news both personal and professional. I found out that one of my friends welcomed a newborn son, and another close friend of mine landed herself a new career, as she's been seeking for months and held out for the perfect one.

I received a new freelance side project that I am happily working on as I type (after the tea finishes steeping that is), and even a small farewell party for a co-worker commenced earlier in the week, as he left the corporate world for good to start a new business venture of his own.

So what does this outfit have to do with my week infused happiness ... absolutely nothing! It was actually inspired by blinds, but that is a whole other story of artful abstractions. Perhaps we can lean toward Breton inspired weekend, and a touch of modern prairie goes vintage on this one!

This is a remixed ensemble that I wore some time ago when I was visiting a family friend who owns a couple of horses. She's promised me a day of horseback riding in the countryside soon, which I love and have not done in years ... right, actually it's close to a decade to be honest.

But, life is full of glorious moments like these to cherish, and also a tub of challenges to conquer. We shall see what becomes of this weekend of nostalgia. Obviously, I would not be wearing a dress nor one of my favourite belts with golden hardware to go horseback riding!

All of this positive energy and thriving air of wonder is what's been going on so far! Is it not these entirely uplifting moments and randomness that we should share more of? Okay, now it's your turn ...

Bright Conversations

What are your favourite colours to wear? For me it's blue, specifically turquoise, as well as all shades of yellow ... my top two favourite hues! But, as you may know my love for colour in general includes, well, everything!

This dress is so comfortable and perfect for a "going to the park" type of day with a neatly packed basket full of cheese, champagne, and wine! Except, instead of carrying snacks and chilled beverages in my basket woven tote, this time I only needed to bring my reading material. I packed a good book, a few glossies, and portable iPhone speakers in my handbag, because this time my friends were bringing the goods to me!

Earlier in the day I had already decided on getting in some quiet time to catch up on reading and sketching. Then, a few hours later I received a surprise call that a couple of friends were in town and wanted a low-key meetup. Don't you just love those completely spontaneous days?

It turned out to be a wonderful day filled with enchanting memories, good company, and not having a worry at all flashing through our minds! Sometimes you merely need an actual day of rest: a moment to have a clear mind, releasing your heavy weighed thoughts or troubles, and allowing them to be infinitely swept up by the wind.

I think there's always time to indulge in the simple joys of life, so why not! Of course, we can all do this on our own at any given time, however this time it was certainly a special moment to share with good friends. And, I also believe that wearing one of my favourite colours attributed to the cheerful tone maintained throughout my environment.

The Clash: Prints and Patterns

If you've followed this blog for some time then you may have noticed how much I adore accessories in general, especially versatile items like scarves! They can definitely be worn any time of the year ... from summer to winter!

I tend to keep a scarf of some sort in my handbag and carryall for various reasons, as I've used them to alter the look of an outfit on many occasions.

This is an outfit that I wore one weekend to view art pieces that a friend was selling, and then to go shopping later. After brunch we did a bit of vintage shopping and thrifting, which is always wonderfully time consuming, but also a lot of fun! I wanted to find antique pieces, however instead, I pretty much scored several other pieces: stemware, this leather handbag, and bird printed scarf.

At the shop that I bought the handbag and stemware from all proceeds and donations were going to support children's charities, so how could I not take peek and donate! I managed to get a total of 8 pieces all for the equivalent of buying a cup of tea! You can't beat a great cause and box of excellent buys!

I paired my newly purchased scarf with an old jacket that I had changed the buttons on. Originally, it had plain large buttons, so I sewed on new buttons to give the jacket more character. Since the jacket is navy, choosing a more detailed button worked well!

As much as I adore shoes and all kinds of jewellery, handbags are essential accessories for my lifestyle! From the hustle and bustle of business travel to heading off to vintage shopping, there's always a bag that can go for every occasion.

Since Fashion Tales is about spreading the love of emerging artists, I wanted to share with you three designers on my radar—particularly handbag designers that all sell on Boticca. If you shop online then you've likely heard of Boticca by now, a fashionista's one-stop shop for acquiring creations from new talent. If not, then you should!

They continue to provide exclusively curated pieces by independent designers from across the globe. I've chosen these bags, which can easily take you from day to night. Additionally, I've added a few styles that would be ideal for my own fashion schedule, including enjoying the weekend.

As difficult as it was to narrow down my favourites I finally selected a diverse bunch! Take a look at these independent designers, and tell me your favourites!

New York based designer, Dareen Hakim produces elegant handbags with personality. She uses her Lebanese culture as influence in her design aesthetic driven by the notion of unique contrasts, in fabric textures, using heavy metal, and original ancient calligraphy. View more of her designs here.

The Swedish Model is a team of individuals behind the luxury designer brand with a minimalistic appeal. I love their handbags most because of the versatility. In the Balloon bag (seen below #5), a personal favourite, it's the perfect travel carryall or weekender bag, as well as for other occasions. The roomy bag makes it a multipurpose piece to love, and above all their craftsmanship with leather speaks for itself! View more pieces here.

One of the reasons why I was drawn to Bellebas' handbags was because of the immediate luxe appearance that you get in a glance. My favourite from the Bellebas designing duo, Luli De Paula and Dolores Mourino is the Hexa satchel (seen below #6). My first thought was this exquisite bag is great for a meeting—of course, pairing it with my pencil skirt, silk blouse, and favourite heels would just be one of many outfit selections! Maxi Movements

Maxis are one of the most versatile style of garments that any woman can wear! I typically wear them more during spring and summer, but I have found them to be wonderful trans-seasonal pieces in my wardrobe.

Think about it—whether a maxi dress or skirt, they're easy to wear, even better to pack, and no demanding styling is needed. You can literally wear a basic Tee, maxi skirt, and sandals and have either an overall casual aesthetic or even transform those pieces into a more refined ensemble!

I decided to wear this silk dyed maxi dress one day to work, and then to meet with friends later. It was one of those occasional work weekends. But, I made the most of it, and wanted to be dressed slightly more relaxed than normal work attire and without going for denim.

It was a low-key night, and I knew that most of the others that I was planning to meet were going to be very casual, so I swapped out my cropped blazer and opted for a cargo jacket. Why do I love it? It’s multifunctional and has loads of pockets!

Sometimes the most effective elements are random and simple. For me, it was pairing a nice silk dress that I found in the depths of my closet with comfortable shoes! I also liked the casual vibe to the look and blended favourable vintage to add texture with an earthy, yet contemporary feeling! Either way, it was the right combination of comfort and style that I wanted. Are you a maxi lover?

Soles With Soul

We've all been there: shopping in the shoe department, perusing the sales, or even window shopping with our hopeful eyes, as we take swift strides down the city streets. And, to acquire nothing during vulnerable times ... yes, that's even a skill!

Do you remember the feeling that you had when you finally found a pair of shoes that made you drop your jaw? You know, the slow gasp that you made as your eyes met with the shoes that you marvelled at for style appreciation? Then, you gasped mentally, and continuously did a double take because of the price tag! It doesn't have to be a style with an outrageous heel or one that's even extravagantly adorned.

When I look at shoes that I might not buy, other than comfort, my predilection for art and colour still trumps all other elements in the admiring process! Just like certain garment silhouettes, shoes can also "speak to us," and express our personality. They can evoke casual whispers of minimalism or even daring shouts of vintage glam!

What ever it is, in that gazing moment it's like music to my ears ... a bit of rhythm, a touch of blues, classic pieces of rock, colours of jazz, and literally everything in-between. Because my personal shoe closet is quite eclectic. However, one thing is certain, they all have soul! Some just need the right mix or style duet rather, to accompany them.

Here's a few shoe selections that I wouldn't mind in my collection at the moment.

Elegant Expeditions: Pasotti Ombrelli

I remember departing on weekend train rides when I was younger, observing the people around me, analysing the luggage of patrons, and even pondering how stylish my parents were. Even then, it was all about the accessories for me!

Just as a stylish hat or the perfect shoes may complement the overall look of an outfit; accessories in general can really add that special finishing touch! And, that includes umbrellas, but we’re not talking just any brolly!

Pasotti Ombrelli has been masterfully creating luxury umbrellas, globally providing men and women with first-class (functional) weather accessories. Today, the Pasotti family brand is still loved by many, and has been for over the past 50 years.

Founded in 1956 by Ernesta Pasotti, the company has managed to create fine pieces that include handmade handles and intricate style detailing. From embellished Swarovski crystals to bold printed interiors, each umbrella comes with personality–and there are plentiful options that would make a great gift for any stylish maven!

The brand’s one-of-a-kind foundation is apparent in their design aesthetic, and the quality is certainly distinct! I chose this classic style with a ruched leather handle. The interior is of taupe colour with a lovely surprise of polka dots.

Dinner trains are such a wonderful experience. Although, it’s been a long time since my last dinner train excursion, I thought I would reflect upon it and savour the memory. So, I took a dated, yet modern approach style-wise, wearing a multi-coloured tweed jacket that I designed and paired it with vintage pieces.

In the end, I let the marvellous accessories do the talking, and with patterns already implemented in this outfit my classic Pasotti Ombrelli was an ideal addition!

Pieces of Me: Insta-Living

Culture, heritage, architecture, and pure colour are just a few elements that influence me personally, including my fashion style and general perspective. So, I thought I would share a glimpse of some of these components, as well as others that I love.

At the moment, we are between a couple of places, and with busy schedules of work and travelling there hasn't been much time to decorate. Therefore, mobile uploads work best for unique and intimate captures, transforming a snapshot of even a plain box into somewhat, a work of art!

When entertaining comes into play it's great to pull out old recipe books. And, of course, thanks to Christmas holidays mum always makes certain that all of us in the family are upgraded with proper dinnerware and silverware. Plus, guys don't tend to bring these type of items into the home initially do they? So, I was very pleased that I had these! I also just received "his and her" tuxedo style forks and spoons, but we have not got around to using those yet!

I adore these wooden bowls, they kept hazelnuts warm and ready for a new recipe that I tried a few weeks ago and modified!

On the mini baker's rack: we keep flour, dried red peppers, rice, spices and herbs like cumin and thyme, amongst loads of other ingredients in rotation on the shelves and cabinets. Saving the empty bottles of our cooking essentials, such as saffron helps to remember to buy stashes of it on upcoming market trips. Spice markets are some of my favourite places to stop when travelling.

Marvellous gifted artful pieces, and intricate works that my papa gave me from Ghana, (an Ashanti 'Sankofa' Stool and carved wooden utensils). There's really too many family favourites to love. My brother has a very nice collection of his own as well in his family's home. But, this is one of my little tables for now that resides in what we like to call the peace room, which is not finished yet. Presently, there are plenty of comfortable floor pillows and lounge seating.

When guests are over they may also use this room to have important phone calls, meditate, or just relax before heading out to the crowded living room filled with gourmet indulgences and joyful conversations. I suppose more of my own artwork will also accompany this environment soon.

One of many German steins: This one is more of a playful piece that I have carried with me in every move. The top is removed now, as I use it to store feathers and notions. The older inherited one's are at my parent's house, which are in a glass case.

I love old wooden cigar boxes, and often fix them up so that I can use the boxes for crafting or storage. Last year, I restored one for my friend Lars, putting in requested velvet fabric cushions for storage. He wears funky cufflinks and uses it to store them .. it's truly a custom cigar box now!

Paper flower arrangements and more art! A happy floral makes the day bright, however for the guest rooms, I generally use silk flowers or paper flowers. Several friends have allergies just as I do, and sometimes we never know who might be passing through or if they're indeed allergic to fresh flowers—fortunately, I am not! But, aside from that, there's nothing wrong with a little handmade touch!

One of several favourite trunks! Although these only keep extra throw blankets stowed away, it does make a lovely corner to pass, and dream of world adventures in a matter of seconds.

Global Luxury

It’s been an eventful few weeks filled with conferences and meetings. Additionally, I’ve been preparing this special post to share with you. I am delighted to finally introduce you to the new fashion brand, Assali.

Still in the first year of the brand’s unveiling, Assali has already gained some buzz through the fashion channels, including the likes of E! News’ correspondent, Catt Sadler, amongst others.

Assali was kind enough to let me try-on pieces from their Fall/Winter 2013 collection so that I could share an exclusive preview with you. Here's a glance at a few day and night captures in the pieces from the brand.

Designer, Eva Boulos, (Assali’s creator) has used her experience with diverse cultures as a source of influence as well as the groundwork for designing. The Port-au-Prince native creates comfortable apparel for the contemporary woman. As a globe traveller myself, I can definitely see the worldly influences in her design aesthetic.

The line itself is a fresh take on luxe-style. It’s sophisticated and edgy, yet there are also artistic silhouettes with a sexy undertone. Deep jewel tones of emerald, and plum-burgundy instantly catches your eye—impacting the collection as a whole, and creating a hybrid of casual dramatic elegance.

One of my favourite pieces is the Carrie dress, as I became quite a fan of the side panel slashes with contrasting fabric. It’s perfect for going out and very comfortable … there’s also a shorter length version of the Carrie dress and Milano dress as well!

Going West With Gudrun Sjödén

Now that you've travelled from your first stop, we're going West and taking risks ... well, fashion-wise that is! Safari rides and close snapshots of wild animals will have to wait for another time. But, for now, here's a bit more summer inspiration as we arrive to our next destination.

The way certain pieces of clothing are styled definitely makes all the difference, whether very minimal or dramatic! As you know, I typically enjoy creating and experiencing with new techniques with styling my wardrobe. And, with these pieces provided from the Gudrun Sjödén collection it was the rich colour that struck me initially! The plum colour in the cardigan against the lime green was a unique pairing that I loved!

The entire collection is relaxed and influenced from diverse areas covering the North, South, East, and West. The use of layering with the versatility of linen, and organic cotton were both key elements in this collection. So, I focused this portion of the lookbook on the easy, and roomy style of the West.

This part of the summer collection carries on with earth tones, including enticing deep hues that are reminiscent of the African sunset. The colours are pretty much a lively call out to the desert, however there's also shades that whisper influence of the flora and fauna of the land. I hope you've enjoyed this virtual holiday!

Five Minutes With George Styler

It’s always a special treat when I come across worthy talent to share. And, it’s even more thrilling to follow their fashion voyage along the way.

Right here, just last November I introduced you to Serbian fashion designer, George Styler, including him in the fashionably favoured roundup of designers to look out for! Since then, his creations have gained more esteem and commendable fashion nods, including Vogue Italy, amongst others. I caught up with the designer to give him a chance to tell us a bit more about his works.

“I combine Balkan-ethno with other nation's styles with a touch of punk,” Styler said. In a glance, this is very apparent as well as intentional. It’s simple: he wants to capture and celebrate diversity between people and culture.

“My collection is designed for people who want to be different and wear a unique piece of art. In my collections I'm in fact admiring differences in this world because differences are what make our world special,” Styler said.

He recently presented his new collection, Captivity II at 33rd Perwoll Fashion Week in Belgrade. This collection is purely a continuance from his debut, Captivity, which was inspired by a caged bird—metaphorically translated as modern slavery, and exploring human decoration with one’s freedom being deprived and expressed.

Captivity II is ingrained from an allegorical myth and drawn from the Slavic goddess Devana, guardian of the forest and wildlife alongside Veles. Much in love with the goddess, Veles ends up turning himself into a basil flower. With this mythological setting as inspiration, Styler infuses elements from the quixotic legend of the Slavic god and goddess. He interprets it through his use of pattern, colour, and the union of 3D technology with jacquard knitwear.

I’m certain we will be seeing more from Styler soon, and hopefully even gracing the runway for London Fashion Week in the near future.

“The Bird of Paradise dress!” The Bird suit dress is my favourite because London stylists have lent that dress the most times!”

A sculpted work of art implanted with daring colour ... yes, the bird dress (seen below) has garnered great appreciation from many, and we can understand why! Thanks George, we wish you much success!

Transport To Summer With Gudrun Sjödén

Now that spring has arrived it’s only a matter of weeks before summer makes her special entrance, full of gleaming rays of sunshine. But, don’t fret, if you’ve only now started to embrace a milder climate! There’s plenty of time to gather style inspiration for the summer months, especially for a relaxing holiday.

This time around, we’re excited to show you pieces provided from the Gudrun Sjödén summer 2013 collection. So, as you take a seasonal respite from the cold, whether physically or virtually, enjoy the global influence of pattern and colour this week. I will take you on a slight detour through the gates of summer.

In brief, the summer collection is French worker-chic meets sultry and brazen colour, all dripping from a worldly and saturated palette. From the village of Aniane, the South of France to the Kalahari Desert of Africa, there’s much inspiration to absorb and appreciate in this collection.

You can expect to see solid brights of organic cotton and modal as well as jerseys and printed hues of sage, coral, indigo, and cherry, in addition to earthy tones united throughout the collection. It’s a mere artist’s palette of delight that’s translated from various locations for the summer.

Style Unlimited

There are some types of clothing that I used to stay away from because it evoked not the fondest of memories or elements of infamous school uniforms that were worn growing up. Then, there are ways of wearing the same style of pieces in an outfit, but with a modern twist–making them form a more upbeat and very workable ensemble.

This outfit is just that: plaid, stockings, and loafers–all three elements that could easily stand alone with inspiration from an old schoolgirl uniform. Yet, by added embellishments and modified style lines they marry nicely for a grown-up version of moi! Although, my style has evolved over time, there are still elements of the past that I love!

I wore this outfit to pick up a friend at the airport, as we had also scheduled a day of unwinding with spa treatments and afterward spent time furniture browsing (which I recommend as great inspiration as well). As we chatted with ladies at the spa, “youth” came up in conversation, specifically how we dressed. “If I were as young as you two I could wear that …” a woman said, pointing to my stockings. What!

Hmmm, newsflash! By the end of our conversation, I found out that we were all around the same age.

This made me think about many other women who believe that they cannot wear certain items because of their age. I am not talking about career specific dressing vs. a night out with the girls to paint the town red, black, or blue! I am merely talking about very simple elements; everyday pieces that can also be worn by anyone!

Certainly, we’ve all heard it before, and I agree. Confidence is absolutely more than a lending hand to how a garment is worn and even the overall look perceived. However, I must say, when I am fifty, even sixty, whatever age I may be, if I feel like wearing knee-highs or leather trousers guess what you’ll find me in … likely knee-highs or leather trousers!

Then again, in the broadest spectrum, I don’t typically put myself in a box of “dressing for my age,” per se!

I would love to know your thoughts? Aside from factoring in your occupation, trends, or types of prints, because some people even believe that leopard print may have an expiration date or associate a certain type of style/woman who wears it ... that's a shame!

Be honest, do you tend to put yourself in an age bracket or have you in the past when it comes to your style of dressing in general or not?

It wasn’t too long ago that I saw a beautifully mature woman crossing the street wearing a Tee with Aladdin printed on the front, yes, all paired with platforms and a maxi. I wonder what she was pondering when she left the house–something tells me, I doubt it was her age!

Needless to say, of course I wore these stockings cheerfully and proud!

Neon and Denim: Happy Days

This week ending was such a fantastic one for many reasons. Of course, it was busy, hence the delay in blogging, however certainly worth it in the end. Spring is upon us and the impending summer will soon affect everyone with extended sunshine as well as mood lifting colours of happiness. So, I decided to show my neon appreciation in installments.

You may remember when I bought this bag, which I was thrilled about because of the neon trimming. I opted for a more casual approach (since the bag has a slight sporty appeal) by adding the smallest touch of neon in my Tee, then wore a skirt for another casual look for the evening. Additionally, I have also acquired a few other bright accessories that I'll be able to dress up more glamourously at a later date.
Stay tuned ... I have a couple of exciting and fashionable things to share with in the next two weeks.

Do you have any holidays or excursions planned for the spring/summer? I am still in the midst of selecting places as well as trying to arrange our scheduling perfectly. Although, spontaneous situations seem to always happen regardless, so I generally expect the unexpected in a very good way for matters like these!
