It is a common knowledge to everyone how picture-perfect Singapore is. How excellent there transportation and sewage system. In what manner they made water waste and even toilet waste into potable water. It's simply amazing! During my stay in SG, I happen to visit some places; others are planned while others are not.

My discoveries:

Bras Basah

I got here by accident. I was searching for a church at my convenient time. Luckily there's one, a few steps from Bras Basah MRT Station.

Clark Quay is a haven for party animals. A one-stop shop plus pubs overlooking a river.

Another interesting attraction is the Henderson Waves. Henderson Waves is a wooden - built bridge. Definitely, the place has a calming effect at night. Great place for picnic and photo shoots!

Changi Beach- Changi Point

Who says, Singapore doesn't have a beach? Well, I thought so too. Surprisingly, they do have. The place used to be tragic marker. Way back in time; Changi is used to be the site of one of the most brutal killings in Singapore's history. For more information, read on Changi Beach' History .

Bishan is by far the busiest interchange among all the other MRT Stations. But greatly it fails in comparison of what is outside the station. It's so peaceful and calm outside. I like!

Singapore is a good place for convenient shopping and dining experience as it offers a wide array of choices. It caters to the extreme! From high - end labels to affordable yet chic fabrics..

Here are my cues:

Orchard Road

A place that never runs out of shoppers. A not so ordinary road for locals and tourists where high - end apparels are an inch away! The likes of Prada, Louis Vuitton, Channel, Gucci, D & G, and Dior are literally queuing.

Vivo City and Sentosa Island

When visiting Singapore, you shouldn't dare miss going to Sentosa Island via Vivo City. You can get to this place by MRT through Harbour Front or ride a bus.. But before heading out to Sentosa, do check out Vivo Mall in and out!

To go to Sentosa Island, you have to go to the 3rd level of the mall and ride a train going to Sentosa. You'll be charged 3 SGD on your EZ link card.

Actually, there are lots of stuff in store for tourists in Sentosa Island. But mind you, this place is a rip-off! So you'd better spend only on what your pocket is capable of.

Q Park, Compostela, Cebu

I am always into places where I can meditate and pray on a Black Saturday. And for this year, I and my friends have decided to spend our annual ritual in the beautiful Park situated in a far-flung barangay at Compostela, Cebu.

We started the pilgrimage by boarding on a multicab bound for Compostela and paid Php 20.00. The drop off area of Q-Park is across the Green Lagoon. From there, you have to ride a "habal-habal" or a motorcycle for hire. The fare is Php 30.00 each passenger so that makes it Php 60.00 back and forth. Q-Park is a 15 -minute ride from the highway. The terrain on your way up is quite dangerous because of the ravine plus there are no railings on the side. I didn't mean to scare you, but it's really worth the try.

We arrived high noon! So the sun is up the whole time.

We rested for awhile before starting the Way of the Cross.

After a much deserved rest, we said our prayers.

Singapore and Marina Bay Sands

Singapore is one of my most unforgettable trip to date as it was my first and perhaps the longest trip away from home. Nevertheless, it felt so high and it feels so right that time.

Fast forward to 2.15.12 , I was quite nervous being scrutinized by the immigration officers at the departure area as I have been hearing stories of people not permitted to go. Being it my first, my heart skipped a beat! Ha-ha

Well, the turn out of events favored my side. Ta-dang! Got my tourist pass! Call it shallow but I am so happy and excited to be going around and exploring places!

The next day, I was confronted with problems as I have to meet friends at the other end and have to ride the MRT alone. Taken into consideration that I am very poor at geography and doesn't have a unique liking of reading maps. Ha-ha...Now, spell good luck! lol Well, after several inquiries to locals and frequent calls to my friend, I managed to arrive at their flat! haha

The very first place we visited was Marina Bay. I got wowed again and again! Singapore is really clean, the buildings, (I mean the lucrative ones are everywhere) and the scenery outside Marina Bay is gorgeous!

Circle Inn Hotel and Suites Bacolod

The Circle Inn Hotel and Suites was our residence in Bacolod. It is located in Lopez Jaena - Malaspina Streets, Capitol Shopping Center, Bacolod City.

The place is great, so regal, and seems a high - end hotel. Its rates are quite reasonable. The receptionists were also accommodating.

I came here last December so hotel guests were greeted with this huge Christmas tree at the entrance.

I had a whale of time in Bacolod and these post supports my claim that I did enjoy my stay. I also had a relaxing and fantastic try in this hot spring .

My hotel accommodation is just what I need and even exceeded my expectations. I love it here!

I will surely consider going back to the City of Smiles and explore this wonderful city.

SINULOG FESTIVAL 2012 in Cebu

Sinulog is the most sought after festival in the country and I must say in Asia! It is a festivity which draws the crowd together to worship and give thanks to Sr, Sto. Niño. But do you know that Sinulog was originally a warrior dance and not a religious ritual? The duel is executed with the use of a scythe or in native term (Sundang) together with of a shield and the steps becomes more complicated as the fight becomes more and more intense. But then later on it evolves and became a dance offering to the miraculous image of Sr. Sto. Niño. For more info about its history click here or here !

A day before Sinulog (January 14), I strolled in SM City Cebu and came across with these dancers..

Fast forward to the big day day; Sinulog Festival 2012, I was one of the thousands who witnessed the street party ; and I can only think of one word --- SPECTACULAR!!! Literally, there was a sea of people. Lots of visitors from all over the world. The costumes of the different contingents, the floats, the scarecrows and giants were amazing!

Christmas freebies and Awesome Surprises

I don't normally receive gifts on Christmas. It is usually me giving gifts not the other way around. Yet, I have to admit I become ecstatic receiving one. Always humbling!

I'll take you to the time where my friend, Claire, (who's residing now in another city) made a way to let her presence felt. Her hubby became an instant messenger.

My first gift - Brownies!!!

So, just when I thought I'll be needing a pair of sandals, ( still considering the idea) my sister brought me these and it fits me well.

The third gift caught me by surprise! I already have an idea that I'll be receiving a parcel from my student/ friend Linda. But I totally got speechless after seeing a very huge box. Not only that, I so love every items she personally chose for me and the personalized hand written letters from her and her sister! I appreciate the effort. Sweet!

Hot Spring Experience

After that action - packed trek at Mambukal Falls, we decided to calm our nerves down and chill at this pampering tropical hot spring just within the resort.

Water kept falling in and out of this jar.

Temperature in the dipping pool is set at 38 - 43 °C

While getting yourselves a hot compress; do a favor and look up and see this. Heavenly!

Bacolod City and the Seven Falls of Mambukal

It all started with a ticket booked randomly for Bacolod. Then, the planning and pesky inquiries came in. A friend told me, "Why Bacolod? There's nothing much to do here! " I chuckled, I said, wait; Bacolod is the City of Smiles and the Sugarbowl of the Philippines. Also famous for its ancestral houses and to top it all Mambukal is fantastic for having not 1 but 7 waterfalls! Take that! So there you go, me trying to justify my actions. haha.

Fast forward to 12.10.11! The downpour was heavy days prior to our arrival. The thought of it made me sick. Luckily, Mr. Sunshine greeted us that morning with a beaming smile. I was so, so delighted! Having a limited time, we chose to drop roaming around Silay and head to Mambukal Falls instead. Had a quick breakfast at Bongbong's; went outside the vicinity of the airport. and rode a tricycle and paid P10.00. We got off at the highway and transfer to a jeepney bound for Bacolod and paid P13.00 From the jeepney terminal to Libertad Terminal (where buses for Mambukal can be found); fare is P7.00. The fare going to Mambukal Resort is P35.00. This wouldn't be possible and I bet we might have been lost without the help of a good natured Ilongga named Merlyn. She was with us from Silay Airport to Libertad terminal. She, making sure that we reach our destination. I'm speechless! Her kindness is genuine. Indeed, a perfect welcome for us tourists! :)

Exactly noontime, we arrived at Mambukal Falls Resort. That was a close 2.5 hours if you came all the way from Silay Airport and roughly an hour travel if you are based on Libertad. Paid P50.00 for the entrance fee.

The 4th and the 5th falls were closed and not passable due to landslides. So we trek for another 25 minutes going to the 6th. Mind you, it's not easy!!! You'll be needing gazillions of water! ha-ha

My throat is already parched and legs started to crumble here and there. I suffered from cramps too. But still raring to go up even until the 6th falls.

We almost pass out. Reaching the 6th falls was already an achievement!! Wooohoo! We refused going up one more notch to reach the 7th falls. Another 35 minutes trek if we chose to. But naah.....six is enough. :)))

Last December 4, my sister invited me to their annual outing with her college buddies. They opted to go at a cold spring resort over a beach resort. Had I not known her friends, and my sister shouldering the expenses; I would not have gone there.. ha-ha

Well, this place is not new to me, I have been here last year with my family and some relatives. Unfortunately, I had a period at that time, Quite annoying that I couldn't match their excitement. I was drooling with envy. But not this time. Good food + good company = A Perfect Combo.

* Go to North Bus Terminal and look for buses bound for Carmen, Cebu. Fare is P45.00. Tell the driver to drop you off at Carmen Public Market or the Rosary Center Block. Hire a motorcycle and pay P20.00 on your way up.

*** For private vehicles:
Look at the signage " Rosary Center or Uragay Spring Resort" - about 2 blocks away from the Public Market. Facing the highway, turn left and drive for about 2-3 kilometers.

Christmas Village at SM City Cebu

Nothing can stop Filipinos in celebrating Christmas. As early as September, (the so-called "BER" months) we already fancy on putting up decorations, and christmas lights. Spirits is high while remembering the birth of Christ. Some families even look forward to family reunions. People working overseas also take their time out to fly in time for Christmas.

So it's a usual sight to see blinking of lights in houses, in parks, and in the malls. But I have to say SM City Cebu's Chritmas Village really stands out. It looks so lovely and a good food for the eyes. Indeed, Christmas makes you feel young at heart. I felt it when I first saw this.

Simala Shrine

Monastery of the Holy Eucharist or shortly known as Simala is a place for pilgrims. A site devoted to worship. A spot that connects you to HIM and HIM to you.

One sunny day of November 30; my feet lead me to Marian Hills, Lindogon, Simala, Sibonga. Approximately, an hour and 1/2 ride from downtown Cebu.

-----> On your way down; ride a motorcycle or tricycle. At the drop off area, you can either choose a mini-bus, a bus, or a v-hire.

How to secure a gatepass?

Go to the Cebu Provincial Capitol and make a reservation. No fees collected just bring an ID.

Meeting place?

Assembly time is 1pm. Be there at the right wing of the Cebu Capitol not later than 3pm. Buses are scheduled to fetch passengers. It's on a first-come, first-served basis. So be on time.

One of the many things I like to do is to eat out. Yet all along I always end up dining in fast food chains. Been trying to loosen up a bit of this habit. Good thing I found this restaurant at SM Cebu. Big thanks to my friend Sha for dragging me here. I must say their food is gastronomic. It totally drives away your hunger pangs and most of all it is so affordable! For as low as 100 pesos you can have your favorite rice meals. And I am not kidding!

Last August 12 and 13, (exactly 2 months ago), I attended the gathering of intellectuals and language experts at the 2nd Cebu International TESOL Conference. Alongside with 4 keynote speakers are a hundred of lecturers from all over the world. That's how big the the delegation was! Indeed, a rare occasion where Cebu hosted such a big event. Lucky that I don't need to go to another city or worse go to another country.

Insights:

One of the many things I've learned is that you don't really need to sound like native speakers. Raise linguistic pragmatics instead.
You can neutralize your accent only if you are aware of the phonological differences in every country..
The expert teachers should have a wide repertoire of current issues and anticipate problems.
Think globally yet act locally.
Language satisfies the need of the society.
To top it all, the problems regarding the accent problems stem from the mother tongue. If learners were aware of the differences then the expert teachers can re-mediate the problem.

It was then jampacked! Fans were screaming and in unison it echoes; " I love you Bruno Mars". In short, d-e-a-f-e-n-i-n-g! Such a joy watching him on stage. Who wouldn't be entertained? His songs never fails to impress.

How to get at St. Benedict's Monastery

My apologies if it took me some time to update this blog. Now this is the 2nd cut of my pilgrimage to St. Benedict's Monastery .

What to do and where to ride?

Here's how!

1. Go to North Bus Terminal
Ride a bus en route to Carmen, Cebu. The last time I went there, it costs me Php 45.00 (1 way).

2. Inform the conductor and/ or the driver.

3. Ride a motorcycle at the drop off area.
It is a bumpy ride and roughly 6 kilometers from the city center. Pay Php 30.00 - one way and Php 60.00 for 2-way.

Let them be the one to fetch you when you get down as you can hardly find a transpo on top.

I must say that I was very fortunate to have known this place in time for Holy Week. I was needing a calm environment at that time. It did happen and I was there on Black Saturday. It was just perfect!

All along, I was looking for something like this.

The Incredible Falls of Kawasan

Kawasan Falls is a 3 - hour drive from Cebu City. It sets majestically in Matutinao town of Badian; southwest of Cebu. Quite long and strenuous travel that is , your destination is something that you must see during your lifetime.The long and mighty gushing waters from the source is heaven and unfathomable.Truly a prime gem that is peacefully snuggled in its unspoiled cove.

If you want to take a breather, come to the island of Camotes. I tell you this could be a perfect retreat from the hustles and bustles of the metropolis. Still not convinced? The long, powder - coated sand and crystal clear water in the island is to die for. When I heard from my friends that the beaches in Camotes are breathtaking, then I started to save a penny. Though, quite a long story, the whole kaboodle were whisked off to the island. This time without any hesitation.

Much to my surprise, the island offers something that I can't see in the metro. It may be the tranquil mood, the laidback environment and the not so commercialized beauty rolled into one. You readers have to see it in the photos as you scroll down and get a glimpse of what I'm trying to say. Some of the photos are taken by me and some shots were from my friend. Forgive us if we are not so good in finding the right angles. hahaha

Approximately, 33 nautical miles outside of Cebu City lies the magnificent island of Camotes. It is composed of four islands namely Poro and Tudela towns, Pilar, Tulang, and the town of San Francisco. The latter sounds international, isn't it? haha.... Humor aside, San Francisco is one of the nicest destinations of the country as Philippine officials have been promoting it. To name a few, the governor of Cebu has been urging townfolks and travelers to join in the program she initiated and call it, "Suroy - suroy sa Sugbo" or in other words Traveling Around Cebu. The Department of Tourism has been supporting it also. My trip specifically points out to the beauty of San Francisco where most of the exciting places to visit can be found here. Come!!... Join me, as I unravel the beauty of Camotes that is equally comparable to the likes of Bantayan Island and the world famous, Boracay.

Here is my story

As far as my memory can serve me, I was never interested to go to this island, There were innumerable instances that I can go for a vacation but I opted not to. I never end up with childish reasons like big waves on the way there, problems with food choices, power supply, life on a countryside, and so on. But amidst these baseless ideas and/ or misconceptions, there seem to be a connection between me and this island. First, it is my mom's hometown. Second, most of my relatives on the maternal side reside in Camotes. So if you're talking about chances, I have it all !

It's a bit dim though. You have to walk downstairs. Roughly about 5 minutes. But once you get there, you can't help but swim. However, I have one big problem. I can't S-W-I-M!! I'm such a loser. ha-ha. Nonetheless, I'm trying to hold on at the rocks on the sides. Trying to imitate the likes of spiderman.! :)

A Shoestring Budget Traveler in Baguio City

Who wouldn't want to save when they travel? I think everyone does. I couldn't care less at all. Traveling per se, always entails money. But I tell you traveling need not be costly. In my recent trip to the summer capital; Baguio City, I didn't spend a lot. Why? Because I did a little bit of research, I ask some people and I was all psyched up so when I get there, I wouldn't get ripped off. Basically, the very reason why I made this blog. I want to share how I get to spend a little yet not sacrificing the fun. Hope you get a dose of inspiration when you get to read this one as well.

Here are some tips:

1. Book a flight early.

I got my ticket 6 months prior to my flight. Imagine, my ticket cost me Php 380.00 only or roughly 9 US $. How did I do that?! Hmmm.. I purchased my round trip ticket on a seat sale. Big thanks to Cebu Pacific Air! I did save some buckets. ^0^

2. Make a hotel reservation.

You do not want to worry on your accommodation once you get there. Baguio is noted as one of the leading destinations in the country. So it not so surprising to see hotels run out after the other. 3. Location

It would be more convenient if you stay near the downtown area. Hotel rooms situated along Marcos Highway or somewhere at session road is a perfect haven. In my case, I stayed in Blue Mountain Hotel. It wasn't bad at all.! I stayed in a standard room and paid Php 1560.00 for 2 days. But I have a friend to share the bill with and that made it even cheaper!

You'll be needing this - A HOT SHOWER

Make some inquiry, if they do have a hot shower. Can you think how it is to be soaked in cold water be it in an ordinary day? It's freezing to death! That is most likely the feeling when you don't have this.

4. Use Public Transportation

Most scenic spots are accessible. Never be afraid to try on a jeepney. It is always fun!

On the other hand, you are not on a losing end if you take a taxi. Taxi fare in Baguio City is way lesser compared to other major cities in the Philippines. Php 35.00 is the flat down rate and P2.00 per succeeding kilometers. It also comes in different forms: the usual taxi and the van - like that can accommodate bigger groups.

5. Prepare an itinerary.

It is always best to know where you are going. Primarily, it saves time and money.

7:40 am - Arrived at NAIA 3 Terminal via a Cebu Pacific Flight

Oh... Manila!

First thing that came to my mind when I saw Manila is I find it too crowded. The highways are wide, YES! But vehicles were in volume that left the area no space to breathe. Billboards sprouted like mushrooms, buildings could be seen everywhere; just too much that trees were outnumbered. I need to reiterate that this is merely 2% of what my eyes are capable too see. None discriminating; just stating facts.

On the contrary, the pictures below doesn't signify the above statements. Apology for the wrong timing of taking shots.. hahah..

Well, the main purpose of roaming around the metro is to kill time. Given 5 hours to move around and considering the proximity of the place from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the horrible traffic condition in EDSA which may arise on peak hours; the Mall of Asia (MOA) gets the best deal !

As it claimed to be the biggest mall in Asia. It is no surprise that it is really big. I believe SM Cebu is thrice the size. Honestly, I wasn't really captivated with what I see inside because what attracted me more is the outside. I was in great awe with its landscape; the gusting sound of the wind, and the panoramic view. If I had better lenses, I could have captured a better photo.

Too much of strolling, we finally got ourselves in NAIA 3. To my surprise the bust of the late Ninoy Aquino was there. I believe last August 21, they had a little program to commemorate his death anniversary.

Baguio Day Trip- Part 2

Right after staying in a culturally laid – back Tam-awan Village , we took a cab and went to Session Road to have lunch. And just like that, food makes me whole again. Ha-ha

Afterwards, I and my friend rode a jeepney to Camp John Hay . The place is so huge. Perfect for team building, retreats, picnics, and a whole lot more.

This place is good for adventure - seekers. Unfortunately, I am not that person. ha - ha

Mid afternoon, we paid a visit to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) . The guard would then ask for your ID. So make sure you bring one to get inside the vicinity.Upon entering the gate, I was blown on how cozy and nice the place is. It’s a perfect place for jogging, for relaxation and to re – awaken ones culture. More so, the road is so wide; gutter is well – painted with yellow and sidewalks have been installed and paving is complete.

Too bad, I missed taking decent pictures of the main gate and some important structures along the way, as our cab went on and on to the main building. Thanks to my friend Margie, she had some nice shots.

Now, the place that I was so in the mood to see is the Bencab Museum. Bencab is short for Benedicto Cabrera - a national artist for visual arts.

We got there safe by a jeepney in Baguio Market. It’s a 15 – minute ride from downtown area. Unfortunately, the museum is close. The staff are on tour for 3 days. Hu – hu . I was down. We were down. This could have been a wrap up. See the imperfections of life? Some good things are not meant to happen. Hu – hu

And I just miss to see the organic farm. So I got clued seeing this gallery.

It is really worth seeing the place, isn't it? Sigh~~ But that didn't grow me weary. I shouldn't be. After all, I promised this has to be one hell of a trip. Wew! Forgive me for being so melodramatic. hahah

Before capping the evening, the area nearby Abanao Square should not be miss. Lots of great stuff awaits you here. T - shirts, jackets, shoes, bags are sold in super low, low, prices!!!

Baguio Day Trip- Part I

Oh my.... Here is the most awaited part of my trip. Time to hit the streets of Baguio! Woohoo!! JJJ

Honestly, it's surreal being here. I always see this in movie flicks I got charmed. The view is fantastic! So many things to do yet so little time.

F Next, we went to The Mansion. The Official Presidential Residence in Baguio.

F Across The Mansion, is Wright Park. Water is not so clean as I expected but the flowers were awesome. The landscape, the structure, the Pine Trees; you couldn't help but take shots.

F We could have proceeded to Camp John Hay after Wright Park but a native suggested to drop by Tam- awan Village. He said it would take 10 minutes to get there. To my surprise, it takes forever!!! Ha-ha. But no regrets! I was still hype to see what's inside.

I'm not done, there's more!!!

On a personal note, I like this spot. It was something educational. You not only get to see a great view but you get to have a glimpse of the kind of life back then. It is a sure shot of how much you can learn in a day when you go to a place for the first time. The world becomes your school. The place becomes your playground. So if you are into culture and the arts and have an endearing attachment with the environment and history; never miss Tam-awan Village.
