NBA Winning Streaks

2014-03-27T03:22:00.001-07:00

Lakers holds the consecutive winning streak in NBA history with 33 consecutive wins. And best winning percentage belongs to Bulls with 72 - 10. It is notable that Bulls couldn't get more than 18 consecutive wins in the 1995 - 96 season where they got this percentage record. Another interesting point is that Spurs, who dominated NBA in the last 15 years, could not find a place in this consecutive winning list.

Consecutive winning records in NBA history is shown below:

Below is the summary of the above table:

Team	Beginning	End	Wins
Los Angeles Lakers	05 Kasım 1971	07 Ocak 1972	33
Miami Heat	03 Şubat 2013	27 Mart 2013	27
Houston Rockets	29 Ocak 2008	18 Mart 2008	22

NBA Digest (14th February 2014)

2014-02-14T06:04:00.001-08:00

Korver Kounter: 118. Atlanta Hawks: 76 - Memphis Grizzlies: 79. During this game Grizzlies attempted and made only and only ONE free throw. That attempt was not because of a foul. It is given because of defense violation. Grizzlies became the only team in NBA who won a game with a single free throw made. Quite interesting. (08.02.2014)

Magic which is the 3rd worst team in Eastern Conference beat Pacers which is the beast team in the same conference with 93-92. A very very surprising result. We have to see the disgusting behaviour of Paul George which I think is much important than the result: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svSpXaWKTSQ People say why I don't like Pacers. Look at this and decide yourself! Ugh! Disgusting! (09.02.2014)

NBA Player Tracking

2014-01-24T01:18:00.000-08:00

Let us mention in this blog post about an aspect in NBA which is not widely known and most probably cannot be widely known even in the future: NBA Player Tracking.

NBA board brought an innovation for tha games which are being played and will be played this season. This can only satisfy some people like me who are sick of statistics. According their definition; "NBA Player Tracking is the latest example of how technology and statistics are changing the way we understand the game of basketball." (Well it really seem to be so.)

Beginning the 2013-14 season six extra cameras are placed in the NBA courts only to watch the players movements. These cameras watch almost every movements of the players on the pitch. These movement data are converted to some statistics with the help of a spftware called SportVU. The cameras collect the data from the pitch with a frequency of 25 times per second. (C'mon man! Easy man easy! Snap out of it!)

Well what kind of data are collected from the pitch with this software? Let me give some examples: "Average speed of a player", "How far did a player travel during the game?", "How many times did a player touch the ball?", "How many passes did a player throw?" etc... That much statistics is too much even for me who is sick of statistics!

Let me share some perceptible examples so that the concept can be understood well:

Klay Thompson (GSW) traveled 11,5 miles during the games so far in this season.

Kemba Walker (CHA) touched the ball 100,4 times per game. (Didn't I tell you that this people crazy? Now you believe me, huh?)

MarShon Brooks (GSW) made 1,33 point each time he touch the ball. (Now! This is the peak of craziness. I am going nuts.)

You can reach lots of statistics like this on the page of NBA:
http://stats.nba.com/playerTracking.html
http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2013/11/1/5055376/nba-sportvu-camera-statistics

I will be waiting some correlated statistics from NBA. Some examples from my expectations: The players with 15 or more points who did a fight with their wives a night before, the most assist made from the players who ate tuna in the morning, the ppg rank of the players who didn't shave in the morning and are between 1,90m - 2,00m, the average ppg of the top ten of the most breathed players during the games of the week multiplied with the apg and then divided to pi number, the ppg and apg leaders of the week after taken the Fourier transform of the games. Well you think they are impossible? We'll see.

This system has been utilized in over 2,000 international footbal (soccer) games including European Champions League. If you will see some crazy statistics in the future games don't panic! Just be sure that the only reason of them is this software.

Being suspended for 20 games because of using illegal drugs, his age getting older, his presence being uncertain in NBA. Being counted all of this our national basketball player Hidayet Türkoğlu signed with Clippers for the rest of the season. Because he has disgraced our country having used illegal drugs I am not sure if I am going to be happy or not, about his returning back to NBA. I gave up following him on twitter. Well let me begin to follow him again. I gave up following also Enes Kanteri on twitter for a while. I dropped him completely because he didn't participate Turkish National Basketbal Team for the last European Basketball Championship without giving any reason. What good are you if you don't want to appear in our National Team? Shame on you! (16.01.2014)

We faced very interesting statistics during the game between Thunder and Rockets. Rockets made 73 points in the first half of the game which became Rocket's franchise record. (And against a tough team like Thunder.) But they could make only and only 19 points in the second half of the game which is their lowest franchise record. Two halves and two completely different team. Unbelievable!!! Thunder beat Rockets 104-92. (16.01.2014)

Kevin Durant scored 54 in the game against Warriors and broke his career record. Thunder didn't beat Warriors 127-121. But Durant did it alone. Stephen Curry's 37 points and Klay Thompson's 27 points kept in the background. Stpehen Curry and Klay Thompson are shooting so smooth. Watching the ball in their shoots gives one a pleasure. But their performance couldn't be enough against Kevin Durant. Thunder won the game. 127-121 (17.01.2014)

Rajon Rondo appeared on the pitch for the first time last night since January 2013 against Lakers after recovered from his injury (anterior cruciate ligament) The guy who told the highlights mentioned that Rondo was away from the pitch for 21,233,318 seconds. (Whoa!!! They are crazy! Well! Suits for me!) The game was very contentious. Old fans of NBA know the meaning of Celtics and Lakers games very well. It happens only twice per regular season. Lakers won the game 107-104. (17.01.2014)

I don't like neither Pacers nor Paul Georgetan but anybdoy vails who sees this slam. A strong candidate of slam of the year. This is the best slam so far until we will see a better one: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=10316335 (18.01.2014)

Korver Kounter: 109. Atlanta Hawks: 121 - Miami Heat:114 (20.01.2014)

Kevin Durant is getting crazy! He scored 46 points and played with 6/7 3-points against Blazers. (Thunder beat Blazers 105-97.) The game was head to head until the last minutes. But then Durant took to the stage and won the game himself with the unbelievable 3-point shots he made. Durant is playing damn good nowadays. LaMarcus Aldridge's performance with 29 points and 16 assists kept in the background. (21.01.2014)

Korver Kounter: 103. Chicago Bulls: 91 Atlanta Hawks: 84 (04.01.2013)

Nowadays there wouldn't be an action in NBA if there wouldn't be a Kyle Korver. Things are going so routine in these days. Well Korver made it 104. (Played with 1/3.) It seems that the series is close to the end. His 3-point percentage began to decrease. Brooklyn Nets: 91 - Atlanta Hawks: 86 (06.01.2014)

New storm in NBA: Golden State Warriors. Warriors beat Bucks last night 101-80 and got their 10th straight win. Their longest winning streak since 1975 in franchise history. (07.01.2014)

NBA Digest (3rd January 2014)

2014-01-02T23:03:00.003-08:00

It was a very monotonous week in NBA. Last week was so konotonous so that I barely could find some things to write down except for Kyle Korver.

Korver Kounter: 99. Atlanta Hawks: 118 - Charlotte Bobcats: 116 (28.12.2013)

Korver did it 100! Orlando Magic: 109 - Atlanta Hawks: 102. (29.12.2013)

Korver Kounter: 101. Boston Celtics: 91 - Atlanta Hawks: 92 The series almost ended. Korver could make one of six 3-point attempts. (31.12.2013)

Blazers beat weak Bobcats at home 134-104. Blazers made 21 3-point in this game and tied their NBA record. They played with 63,6% in 3-points! That's an amazing percent! Blazers is the FIRST team in NBA who made two times 21 3-points in a season. They played with 21/37 against 76ers on 14th December 2013. Blazers is too fit for the normal season. It seems that they will bring a good fever to the playoffs. (02.01.2014)

NBA Digest (27th December 2013)

2013-12-27T00:24:00.001-08:00

Korver Kounter: 96 Altanta Hawks: 118 - Utah Jazz: 85 (20.12.2013)

Thunder was the only team who didn't lose at home any games. But last night Raptors beat Thunder in Oklahoma. It was interesting that they got their first home lose against a very average team. (22.12.2013)

Korver Kounter: 97 Miami Heat: 121 Altanta Hawks: 119. It was a great game. Heat barely beat Hawks after OT with their stars LeBron James and my man Ray Allen. It looked like a playoff game. Korver continued from where hr left. 5/8 3-points is quite good stats. (23.12.2013)

No games were played last night in NBA because Christmas. This happens very rarely in NBA. Well! Of sourse Santa visited NBA. (24.12.2013)

Korver Kounter: 98. Cleveland Cavaliers: 125 Atlanta Hawks: 127 (26.12.2013)

Hawks beat Cavaliers in Cleveland 127-125 after two overtimes.
(26.12.2013)

NBA Digest (20th December 2013)

2013-12-19T22:45:00.001-08:00

We forgot to mention about Kyle Korver. Hawks beat Clippers at home 107-97. Korver made 6 3-point shots and increased his streak to 89. He tied the NBA record of consecutive 3-point made. (04.12.2013)

After two days Hawks beat Cavaliers 108-89. Korver made -this time only- 2 3-point shots and broke the NBA record with 90 consecutive games. (06.12.2013)

A new concept arose in NBA: Korver Kounter (Not counter.) Hawks lost against Knicks 111-106. But Korver increased streak to 93. He tries to bring the record to an "unbreakable" state. (14.12.2013)

Blazers beat 76ers 139-105 and made 21 3-point shots. (NBA record is 23.) So they broke their club record. 139 points is the most points made in a game this season. (14.12.2013)

Blazers beat Pistons with Damian Lillard's last split-second's shot in overtime 111-109. So they increased their wins to 21. This is 3rd time that Blazers got at least 21 wins in 25 games starting the season. They got 22 wins and 3 losses in season 1990-91 and 21 wins and 4 losses in 1977-78 season. Team and Lillard play at high performance nowadays. (15.12.2013)

Nets beat 76ers 130-94 and made 21 3-points in the game (21/35). So they broke club's record. (16.12.2013)

Korver Kounter: 94. Atlanta Hawks: 114 - Los Angeles Lakers: 100. (16.12.2013)

Korver Kounter: 95. Atlanta Hawks: 124 - Sacramento Kings: 107 Korver made 8/10 3-point shots. You crazy man??!!! (18.12.2013)

Strength Difference Between NBA Eastern & Western Conferences

2013-12-03T05:04:00.002-08:00

It is easy to see the strength difference between Eastern and Western Conferences if you look at the ranking below:

It can be seen from the table that only two teams in Eastern Conference could pass 50% percentage so far. The 13th team in the Western Conference has the same percentage with the 3rd team in the Eastern Conference. This shows that the teams Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder are much more better and fitter than Indiana Pacers. That's because the teams in the same conference play more games with each other than with the teams in the other conference. i.e. a team in Eastern Conference plays only two games with a team in Western Conference. Nevertheless it plays three or four games with the teams in its conference. Namely teams in Western Conference have to play against thougher teams throughout the normal season.

This also means that Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat will be less tired compared to the other championship candidates untill the playoffs.

Some teams in the above table have worse statistics but have higher ranking as you can see. Let's tell the reason of that in another blog article.

NBA Digest (29th November 2013)

2013-11-28T23:12:00.001-08:00

Attentions are drew to the winning streak of Pacers since the starting of the 2013-14 season. Pacers could extend the series only to 9-0. But by the way more better performances are shown from Spurs and Blazers so far. Blazers beat Warriors in Golden State 113-101 and Spurs beat Cavaliers 126-96 at home and so they have 10 wins in last 10 games. This performance can be normal for Spurs but it seems that Blazers outdone itself. Spurs: 12-1 and Blazers: 12-2 keep going. (23.11.2013)

Mavericks' veteran player Vince Carter made 4 3-points in the match against Nuggets. So he made his 1,682nd 3-point in his entire career. So he passed another veteran Steve Nash and became 10th player in NBA. Vince Carter: 1,685, Steve Nash: 1,682. But Steve Nash is still an active player playing for Lakers. It seems that this race between these two will continue throughout the 2013-14 season. In the same match Nugetts' another veteran player Andre Miller made 4 more assists, passed Rod Strickland and became 9th in the NBA all time assist made. Andre Miller 7,991, Rod Strickland: 7,987. Two milestones are reached in a single game. Pretty cool. (23.11.2013)

Kyle Korver: 87. Atlanta Hawks:87 Boston Celtics:94. Only 3 games left to break the record. (23.11.2013)

LeBron James made 22 points against Magic at home. So he achieved his 508th consecutive double digit point game and tied Kareem Abduljabbar. (Heat won the game 101-99) LeBron James is the 5th player in the NBA history who reached this 500 game streak. Kareem Abduljabbar has two lines in this record. One is 508 double-digit game the other is 787. LeBron James tied one of legendary Kareem's number it is quite tough for LeBron to reach the number 787. (http://nbafromturkey.blogspot.com/2013/11/consecutive-double-digit-games-record.html) (23.11.2013)

Chris Paul of Clippers made 22 points and 9 assists against Kings at home. So his double-double streak starting the season ended at 12 games. He broke the record with one game but couldn't bring it further. Clippers beat Kings after a very tough game 103-102. (23.11.2013)

Derrick Rose injured again. He will have a knee surgery again and his return date is unknown. Although I think that he has an undeserved reputation I am really sorry for his injury. (23.11.2013)

It is declared that Derrick Rose is out for the entire season after knee injury. As I mentioned before even though I cannot like this guy but I am sorry for his situation. And so Bulls couldn't have any championship chance for the season. (25.11.2013)

Pacers beat Timberwolves at home 98-84 and made it 13-1. And they didn't lose at home so far with 8-0. Both statistics are Pacers' franchise records. Moreover Danny Granger isn't playing for the team because of his injury. I have been waiting such a performance from Pacers for about 6 years. But but... I cannot like this team man! I don't know why. There is something repulsive in this team which I couldn't figure out. Maybe the NBA warrior Metta World-Peace (old Ron Artest) has played for Pacers. That's why I am pissed of with this team maybe? Well dunno. I call him Metta World-WAR by the way. Watch Malice in the Palace and see why: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZI6OkXntGLI (25.11.2013)

Spurs beat Pelicans 112-93 and Blazers beat Knicks 102-91 and got their 11th consecutive win. Spurs' 13-1 performance is their best start in the club history. By the way playoff actors begin to emerge one by one. (25.11.2013)

Earvin Magic Johnson ‏@MagicJohnson
Congrats to my boy @CP3 on my breaking my record of 11 straight double-doubles, scoring 20pts & 11ast tonight for his 12th straight dbl dbl!

The answer of Chris Paul to this compliment was also great:
Chris Paul ‏@CP3
@MagicJohnson THANK YOU!!! It is an honor and a privilege to be mentioned in the same breath as you. You are the standard and I'm grateful!

Modesty is a good thing. Especially if you see it on worldwide known stars. (20.11.2013)

Chris Pauls moved the record one game further which he took from "Magic" Johnson. He did his 13th consecutive double-double starting the season. It's his 14th double-double including last season. It seems that a new record is on the way. (21.11.2013)

NBA Digest (15th November 2013)

2013-11-15T03:50:00.001-08:00

Timberwolves broke their franchise record of highest points made in the first quarter with 47 points during the game against Lakers. It's very meaningful to break this record against Lakers in Staples Center. Timberwolves won the game 113-90 (10.11.2013)

Pacers beat Nets with 96-91 in a playoff-like game in Brooklyn and remained unbeaten in NBA so far. Pacers have 7-0 and this is their franchise record. We'll see who will let them taste their first loss. (10.11.2013)

During the game against Bobcats in Charlotte Kyle Korver made a three pointer in his 80th consecutive games and became 2nd. He needs to make ten 3-points to pass Dana Barros and become 1st. Hawks won the game 103-94. (11.11.2013)

Rockets beat Raptors at home 110-104 after double overtime. (11.12.2013)

Nets beat Heat with 101-101 after a playoff-like game at home. The comment of Kevin Garnett, Nets' new transfer from Celtics, about the win was quite cool: "Determination. I think we wanted this one more." Nets ended 14 games losing streak with this game Nets' last win against Heat was on 20th March 2009 with 96-88. Heat has 17 wins in last 18 games. WOW! (01.11.2013)

LeBron James scored 35 points in the match against Raptors. So he made it 500 consecutive games scoring double digit being 5th player in the NBA history. The record is held by Michael Jordan with 866 consecutive games scoring with double digits. Then comes Kareem Abduljabbar with 787 and 508 consecutive games. Then another legend Karl Malone with 575 games. Well what does all these numbers mean: Stability brings success. (05.11.2013)

Consecutive Double Digit Games Record

2013-11-07T04:20:00.000-08:00

There are lots of statistics in NBA and this generates a lot of records. One of these records is: Consecutive Double Digit Games.

Legendary Michael Jordan holds this record with 866 games. To better understand how big this number is think of that in a normal season 82 games are played. Michael Jordan played almost 10 years long with double digit scoring about 10 years somewhere in his career. Awesome!!!

On 5th November 2013 LeBron James scored 35 points against Toronto Raptors and this was his 500th consecutive double digit game. So he became 5th player in NBA history to reach this.

Ranking is below:

1) Michael Jordan 866 consecutive games
2) Kareem Abduljabbar 787 consecutive games
3) Karl Malone 575 consecutive games
4) Moses Malone 526 consecutive games
5) Kareem Abduljabbar 508 consecutive games
6) LeBron James 500 consecutive games

By the way another legendary Kareem Abduljabbar reached 500 consecutive double digit games two times in his career. And this explains why he is all time scoring leader in NBA.

LeBron James could find himself a place among the legends at least statistically. We will see if he will become a real legend in the end of his career. King can do it!

The 2013-14 season of NBA finally started. I'll try to publish "NBA Digest" series every week from the point where I have paused last season.

The 2013-14 season started on 29th November 2013 with the game Pacers vs. Magic. Pacers won the game with 97-87. (29.10.2013)

The inflated fake star Derrick Rose of Bulls returned after a very long time of 18 months to the fields with the game against Heat. He scored only 12 points with 1/7 three-point shots, 3/8 two point shots. (And 3/4 free throws.) Heat won the game 97-87 as expected. (29.10.2013)

Timberwolves beat Magic with 120-115 in the first overtime game of 2013-14 season. (30.10.2013)

NBA Digest (29th March.2013)

2013-04-01T00:28:00.000-07:00

25! Miami Heat! Miami Heat: 103 Detroit Pistons: 89. (22.03.2013)

15. Denver Nuggets. Denver Nuggets: 101 Sacramento Kings: 95 (23.03.2013)

26! Miami Heat:109 Charlotte Bobcats: 77 (24.03.2013)

Miami Heat reached 27. Orlando Magic:94 Miami Heat: 108 (25.03.2013)

Get 15 consecutive wins and then lose against the the 3rd worst team in the East with a 24 point deficit. Unbeliavable! Nuggets couldn't move the series to 16. Nuggets lost against Hornets with 110-86. So the streak ended in 15 in New Orleans. (25.03.2013)

27 and the end. Heat lost against Bulls with 101-97 in away game. So they remian the 2nd in all time winning streak in NBA. They got a very succes which is very hard to achieve. They also showed their claim for the championship just before 1,5 months of the playoffs. Heat and James are much more better than last year. Very exciting playoff games are ahead I think. (27.03.2013)

NBA Digest (22nd March.2013)

2013-03-22T04:32:00.001-07:00

21 and continues Heat beat this time Bucks 107-94 in away game and made the series 21. I was thinking that Bucks will beat Heat. I was wrong. (15.03.2013)

OK now 22. Heat doesn't stop. Their next victim was Raptors. They beat Raptors with 108-91 in the away game. Now they tie the longest winning streak with Rockets in the second place. Celtics ended the series of Rockets in 2008. Heat's next game is against Celtics. We will see if Celtics will end another series. An interesting coincidence. (17.03.2013)

Counting and 23. Heat beat Celtics after a very very hard game with 105-103. Now they are in the 2nd place in consecutive winning series. So far good. But breaking the consecutive winning record is a tough one. Lakers holds this record with 32 consecutive wins in 1971-72 season. The game in the end of March against Spurs is Heat's 31st game. If this streak will last until the end of March they also will have beat Spurs to beat the record. Hey! Could somebody stop Heat? (18.03.2013)

The winning series of Nuggets which is under the shadow of Heat'a series goes on. Nuggets beat Bulls after a very contentious OT away game with 119-118 and got their 12th consecutive win. Heat in the East, Nuggets in the West. We'll see when these streaks will come an end. (18.03.2013)

Nuggets got their 13 consecutive win last night and broke their franchise winning streak record. But more important case is not their 13th consecutive win rather the win against the 2nd strong champion candidate Oklahoma City Thunder in an away game. They won the game 114-104. I think that a very excited playoff is waiting for us. (19.03.2013)

And 24! Heat won the game against Cavaliers 98-95 and moved the series one step further coming from 27 point deficit. LeBron James played with 25 points 12 rebounds and 10 assists and achieved a triple-double. An interesting note from the game: The game began with a 35 minutes delay because of the ceiling leak driping of Quciken Loans Arena. (20.03.2013)

The series go on Nuggets made it 14. They beat 76ers 101-100 at home after an incredible comeback. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go9LwAJjgG4

NBA Digest (15th March 2013)

2013-03-15T01:58:00.001-07:00

Heat goes on the series. Heat beat 76ers at home with 102-93 and made it 17 wins in a raw. (08.03.2013)

Nets defeat Wizards with 95-78. D. Williams scored 42 points. But much more interesting thing is Williams' 3-point shots. He made 11 3-points during the game (11/16). He made 9 3-points in the first which is the new NBA record: Most 3-points made in a half. The NBA record most 3-points made in a game is 12 which was achieved by two players: Kobe Bryant (7th January 2003 - LAL) and Donyell Marshall (13th March 2005 - TOR) (09.03.2013)

Heat says: "Not enough! Go on!" Heat defeat Pacers at home with 105-91 and increased the series to 18. (10.03.2013)

Dunk of the year candidate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTkN2q6sUUk&feature=youtu.be He is a left handed man but dunks this time with his right hand. Salute man! (10.03.2013)

Heat made it 19. They defeat Hawks at homw with 98-81. The series goes on. There were only 2 teams in NBA who had 19 consecutive wins. Heat became the 3rd. (12.03.2013)

20!!! Heat beat 76ers after a tough away game with 98-94 and became one of the 3 teams who have 20 consecutivd wins. End of the series is close. Bucks will end the Heat's series I think. (13.03.2013)

Heat's 20 wins in a raw overshadowed Nuggets' 10 wins in a raw. Nuggets are in the peak of their performance. They beat at home pretentious Knicks with 117-94. We will see who will stop them. (13.03.2013)

Turkish national basketball player Enes Kanter made the expected eruption against Charlotte Bobcats where Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap couldn't play because of their injuries. He showed a real 3rd pick performance during the game finally and made 23 points and grabbed 22 rebounds. Enes did a dboule double in the 1st quarter with 12 points and 12 rebounds. We have been expecting such performances from him since the start of the season. I hope that we will see similar and better performnaces from him. Last time Heat got 14 consecutive wins Wade was league's scoring leader with 24,1 ppg and Shaq was the 2nd in scoring with 22,9 ppg. (What a statistic, huh? Surpassed even me.) (03.03.2013)

Heat won the game against Timberwolves as expected with 97-81 got thier 15th win in a row and broke their consecutive winning record. I think they will easily increase it to 17. Maybe the game on 10th March against Pacers will be a bit tough for them. (04.03.2013)

Thunder is on the peak of theis performance. They beat Lakers at home with 122-105. Well the result is quite normal but one thing is not: They turned over only TWO times during the whole game.
