A: Hey Scott, I originally found this image on Pinterest. It didn't lead back to any source for shopping info, but I've scoured the web to find duds to help you recreate this look.

Layer this orange blazer over this checkered shirt, and add in these yellow pants. Don't forget this paisley pocket square.

Versus: Chris Pine vs. Zachary Quinto

Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, aka Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, teamed up to promote the premiere of Star Trek Into Darkness. Both guys got suited up for the event, but which one did it better?

Chris chose a three-piece pinstriped suit in traditional black. He added an unexpected twist with a contrasting polka dot tie, while Zachary opted for a traditional black tie. His navy suit has black, peak lapels, which are offset by a chambray shirt. The guys couldn't have been more different in the hair department, either. Chris went for a standard side part with a full beard and mustache, while Zachary went for a pompadour and clean shaven look.

So, which guy hit the red carpet looking better? I'm voting for Quinto, how about you?

Featured: Martha Stewart Weddings

The Confetti Pop crew asked me to style a groom for their DIY Herringbone Mobile Backdrop for Martha Stewart Weddings' blog, The Bride's Guide. I came up with this groom's look to match Martha's cornflower and melon palette. The team at Men's Wearhouse kindly let me raid their inventory to create this look, which iss traditional with a twist. It wouldn't be complete without a great tie and pocket square from Bows-n-Ties. Check it out!

A silver tux with satin trim lapels and subtle crosshatch pattern gets an unexpected boost from a light blue shirt with subtle sheen and texture. An orange and white striped skinny tie and tone-on-tone pocket square add a splash of color along with an oversized boutonniere. The shoes? Brown, of course.

Hopefully, this look gives you some inspiration for ways to add some flair to a traditional look without walking too far from convention. I collaborated with some great vendors on this one, so swing by their sites and check out their work.

I came across a pin last night that deserved a second glance, so I clicked on over to Style Me Pretty to check out this entire inspiration shoot. And man, was it worth it. Here's a peak of some of the chambray details the guys wore, one chose a pink shirt, the other blue. Both blazers were accented with bright red and yellow boutonnieres.

Well-Groomed Q&A: Purple, Grey, and Vintage. What Do I Wear?

Q: I've just started the wedding planning process with my fiancée and would love to get some advice on wedding outfits both for myself and the groomsmen. We're looking at a purple/wine/burgundy with grey/charcoal color scheme, and I was wondering how I could fit that into a rustic/vintage outfit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. -Matt

A: To strike the right vibe with mix and match vests and brown leather suspenders for the guys and a blazer for you. Incorporate a variety of purple ties in different shades and patterns to bring that color into the look. Rather than silk options, look for knitted, linen, or cotton ones whether they're bow or long ties. Match your shoes to the brown leather braces, and don't feel bound to adding black accessories just because you're wearing grey. Not sure how to mix grey and brown? Check out this cheat sheet. Burgundy pants will set you apart from the rest of the gang.

Well-Groomed Groom: Hot Pink Storm Trooper

If you're looking for some conventional groom style inspiration, today's post isn't for you. Photog Jessica Beebe submitted these pics of a tough/hipster groom who added the bride's favorite color, hot pink, to his look by counteracting it with lots of black. A black and white cardigan gets a traditional add-on with a boutonniere, and his swaps his everyday handkerchief for a pink one in the back pocket of his black jeans. Don't forget the full beard, which is only topped by Darth Vader and Star Trooper masks.

DIY Sequin Heart Lapel Pins

Not feeling boutonnieres? These DIY sequin heart lapel pins from the Well-Groomed Group shoot are the perfect solution to up your jacket's style quotient.

This DIY is simple, as long as you have access to a few supplies.

Supplies

8.5" x 11" stiffened felt sheets
sequin strands (2.5 yd of each color)
paper
scissors
pen or fine tip marker
hot glue gun and glue sticks
pin backs and clasps

Instructions

1 | Draw or print a heart on the paper. Mine are about 2" at their widest point. Cut out the heart.

2 | Using the pen or marker, trace the paper heart onto the felt sheet. Cut out the felt heart.

3 | Working in small sections, apply a thin line of hot glue along the outer edge of the heart starting at the tip. Adhere the sequin strand to the felt heart while the glue is still hot. Line the entire outer edge of the heart with sequins, then create a second row inside the first. Continue filling in the heart, creating one row inside the previous one.

4 | Once the entire heart is covered in sequins, cut the strand and glue the last sequin in place with a small dot of glue. Allow to cool completely.

5 | Turn the heart over, apply a generous dot of glue to the back, and attach the pin post. Allow to cool before adding the pin clasp and wearing.

Create different looks by applying the sequins upside down (blue pin), using flat sequins (red pin), or faceted sequins (orange).

Well-Groomed Group: No. 001

Today, I'm kicking off a new series that takes groom style inspiration to a new level. I've created style boards, styled a groom for the Geometric Valentine's shoot, and I have another styled groom and bride coming your way soon. But, I wanted to create a shoot that was strictly for the guys. Photog Jen Meneghin was kind enough to let me and my rowdy bunch take over her studio. Thanks for that, J!

Hopefully, the Well-Groomed Group series will make outfitting the entire groom's party a breeze. Each post in the series will offer up shopping details for the groom, groomsman, and ring bearer to make creating a unique, cohesive look a no-brainer. So, with all that said, let's get to it.

Let's dissect the group for a closer look. First up, the groom. His red, checked shirt is complimented by a multi-colored striped bow tie, and chambray pocket square. Top it off with a white blazer, and ground the look with relaxed teal pants. A DIY sequin heart pin adds flair. Stay tuned for the tutorial next week.

The groomsman's look compliments, not matches, the groom's. A red, chambray tie, gingham pocket square, and lapel pin offset a light teal shirt and caramel khakis.

The ring bearer's details mix well with the groom and groomsman, but he shines all his own with a striped vest, gingham bow tie, and bright orange pants.

Want a glimpse of what it's like working on set with kids? My wife, Shauna, is a dessert table designer and the co-founder of Confetti Pop and The Style Lab, so she pitched in her photo styling skills. And, it's always a family affair, so the girls were there to up the cuteness ante.

Well-Groomed Q&A: Where Can We Find Small Gingham?

You guys are on a roll with groom style questions, and I'm back with another one.

Q: I found this picture on Pinterest, and it led me to your website. Where can I find vests like that and shirts with a small enough gingham print not to be too much. All four of the guys have different body types, and we're using a palette of soft greens, blues, and purples. --Megan

A: Hey, Megan. Gingham is everywhere in every size and color right now, so you're in luck. I even found one that's a green and blue mix. No matter the size of the guy, a few inexpensive ($20 and under) tweaks can make a good shirt great. Consider having sleeves taken up or in. Have armholes modified to reduce excess fabric. I included regular and slim fit options to work for the groom and groomsmen.

Well-Groomed Q&A: What are Style Tips for Bigger Grooms?

Q: I'm getting married to the most unbearably handsome dude, who is quite solidly built. I was wondering if you had any pointers specifically for the more bear-ish grooms-to-be. -Kelsey

A: Hey, Kelsey. I've got a few tips for bigger grooms, and a few bits just for your guy. You said the groomsmen are wearing mismatched suits and blue ties, and you're going for a semi-formal, 1930s vibe.

For 1930s style, look to Fred Astaire and Cary Grant for inspiration that's a more modern look than the wide-legged, huge shoulder-pad zoot suit.

For bigger guys in general, pay attention to the scale of your suit.

1 | Skip Skinny: Narrow ties and lapels will only make you look larger. Stick to wider styles to deemphasize your girth.

2 | Go North: Add visual interest up high (and away from your middle) by wearing a boutonniere, pocket square, or lapel pin.

3 | Button Up: If you're standing, your jacket should stay closed to create a long, unbroken silhouette. When you sit, go ahead and unbutton your jacket.

Since the other guys are wearing mismatched suits and blue ties, I assume the suits themselves aren't blue. Try a navy blue one with peak lapels, which are wider, for your bear-ish groom. Two-tone shoes, bring the Astaire vibe full-force. A punchy orange and navy tie will keep his look in step with the bridesmaids' orange bouquets and jewelry.

Well-Groomed Q&A: The Groom Won't Wear a Tie or Jacket. Help!

Q: My fella and I are getting married at the Melbourne, Australia court house in spring this year! He wants to be comfortable on the day, so he's ruled out ties or neckwear of any kind. I've suggested a blazer, but he doesn't want to wear a jacket either. He's been involved in the wedding planning, and I want him to feel styled and special on the big day. Help! -AR

A: Hey, A! You really threw me a tough one here. No jacket/blazer and no ties? I've got three options, two of them are a tad sneaky. You didn't mention his feelings on cardigans. Unlike jackets and blazers, cardigans aren't nearly as restrictive across the back and shoulders so he should still be comfortable. The other sneaky option? A blazer. Hold on, hear me out. This blazer is made of sweatshirt material, again making it more comfortable than a traditional blazer. Check out these three mix-n-match looks. Either pant works with either top, but they're all comfortable, relaxed looks.

To get a more styled look, try a colored pant. On the left, straight cut white jeans. On the right, slim green khakis. Both more tailored than the roomy fit a lot of guys gravitate towards, but not nearly as intimidating as skinny cuts.

On to shirts. Here are three good options. I'm a fan of the cardigan, which can stand in for the blazer/jacket. The stripes and shawl collar are great details that elevate this above the slouchy, brown grandpa sweater. If he's still not going for the cardigan, move to right and try a banded collar shirt. A subtle pattern means the shirt has flare, but not in an "in your face" way. The style of the collar means that a tie is a no-no anyway, so no one will miss the neckwear. Leave a button or two undone for an effortless vibe. The sweatshirt blazer has the comfort of a casual hoodie and the styling of a traditional blazer. Style bonus? It also has contrasting elbow patches. Wear a button-down shirt underneath, and you're set.

Well-Groomed Engagement: Garden Surprise

This groom plotted to create the perfect proposal for his girl. Jared wanted Emily to be completely surprised, so he enlisted her friends and her pooch, Sal, to create diversions and get her to Austin's Hotel Saint Cecilia none the wiser. Photog Lauren Reynolds captured the garden proposal. Jared opted for a casual look that included an aqua and grey, large scale gingham shirt, dark straight jeans, and brown wallaby shoes.

W-G | What advice do you have for other grooms who want to create a less conventional look?

AB | Let your attire reflect your own personal style and interests. I wore Vans, a skinny navy blue suit from TopMan, and a handful of unique details that truly represented me. Wear something that honors the day and honors you, these will probably be some of the best photos you have of yourself--let them represent who you are. Also, it's your day, keep the beard if you want to!

W-G | Did you use any resources to find style inspiration (Pinterest, magazines, sites, blogs, etc.)?

AB | I pull inspiration from all over, simply living in Chicago was an inspiration to how the final look was established. I also started to build an inspiration board on Pinterest the same way I do for photo shoots, and restoring/building my moped.

AB | Ultimately, it was really just an extension of my style that was amplified by the momentous occasion. Not to mention my gorgeous wife really made me look good out there, and I'd be silly not to recognize that.

Well-Groomed Groom: Blue Man Group Pt I

This photographer-turned-groom is dropping knowledge about what he wishes other grooms would do to find their style and telling us how he honed his look for his wedding with Laura. This too good to fit in one post, keep reading for the rest of Part I.

Anthony Barlich of Hitch & Sparrow opted for a navy suit, silver tie, and blue-on-blue gingham shirt. Down low? Striped socks and grey Vans, obviously. He's sporting a curly pompadour/faux hawk hybrid, full beard, and Warby Parker's Wiloughby glasses.

Well-Groomed | As a photog, you're usually behind the lens. Are there certain style statements you wish grooms made more often?

Anthony B | I honestly wish more grooms made their style their own on the wedding day. I don't necessarily know if that subconsciously impacted my decision, but I knew every part of my wardrobe was going to reflect my style and taste. It's usually cookie cutter for grooms, and I wish they took more of a risk and utilized their creative freedom with their wardrobe.

When a groom has this much style, you can assume his boys do, too. Differing ties set some of the guys apart, while leather braces, white shirts, and Vans bring them together.

W-G | Your look was drastically different from the rest of the guys. Why'd you decide to go that route, instead of a more matching style?

AB | I've been in and around a good amount of weddings, which really gave me an opinion on things I never thought I would care about, like my groomsmen's attire. Renting a tux/suit is a non-negotiable for me (based on experience), and I really didn't want to put my guys through that. I wanted everything to be something they could wear and use for multiple reasons and occasions later. My attire was different because it was my wedding and they were my supporting cast. The guys standing up there with me are brothers and some of the absolute best men I know, but I was the groom and I wanted my attire to emphasize that.
