Still trying to process what happened, while watching over and over again all the videos of the blast, photos of the destroyed houses and streets... Those same streets we endlessly walked... Those bars, cinemas, cafés, rooftops that hold so much of our memories, our dancing and laughing… Those same streets i roamed every day after work, under the rain and every sunset, that city where we fell in love… All of them are gone. People have lost their houses, friends have lost their security or any sense of belonging.

How can we mourn all this loss? Especially if it is the result of a corrupted government and system and not a natural disaster? When it is out of complete negligence? Leaving 2,750 tonnes of Ammonium nitrate stored at the port of Beirut for 6 years!! Resulting in a massive explosion for a still unknown reason, leaving 300 000 homeless people, 7000 injured and at least 220 deaths…

I’ve been feeling profoundly sad, devastated and helpless. I cannot even imagine what my friends and family experienced there. Feeling death so near. So many times…

Grief journey… letting this sadness fill me up, allowing it to pass through my body… Cause eventhough we are on the other side of the Mediterranean, we did feel it in our hearts, in our bones…

Inner wisdom

Inspired by one of the visions I had during a plant medicine ceremony. Had to leave all the fears behind, experience the dissolution of the self, enter the water and float in the middle of the ocean, no close by land, only my body as anchor to connect to, my breathing, and just trusting. Trusting the universe, trusting the waters, letting myself be guided, enjoying the present moment, fully surrendering and relying on my inner wisdom. That inner voice that knows more than we think it does, a lot more… To connect with it is only through opening the heart, letting go of everything and diving into the ocean of uncertainty, the unknown, the darkness, observing the observer, being conscious of being conscious… all of that and none of it. Seeing with the heart, and leaving those endless thoughts' patterns and insecurities, just knowing that we are much more than we think we are. We are vibrations, we are music, we are the ocean, we are presence and only through it we can deeply listen and be one with everything. Be the universe, with its light and darkness. Be the water. Be the tree. Be the moon. Be the sky. We hold it inside. It holds us outside.

May we always open our hearts and receive the medicine and wisdom of the plants and listen closely to our Mother Earth. May this new moon bring us closer to our truth and inner path.

Goddess Lakshmi

Interpretation of Goddess Lakshmi. 🌙🐘 She appeared to me in a beautifully synchronized way so I wished to invoke her into my altar and realized I had no sculpture, photo or statue of her, so I decided to draw her. This by itself was a connection on soul level.

Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of abundance, beauty, prosperity and love. She is the wife of Vishnu, and she provides him with the feminine energy (shakti) he needs to keep the world in balance. “Without Lakshmi’s energy, forests would die, the economy would halt, and happiness would fade. Similarly, a person’s life will feel depleted without her energy.” Lakshmi is beautiful, gracious, and most importantly, generous. She also provides inner wealth like peace of mind, health and spirituality. She is the symbol of luck and is also compared to Aphrodite or Venus, as she is the embodiment of grace and charm.
She is described as restless, whimsical yet maternal, with her arms raised to bless and to grant.

Delighted by songs on lustful elephants,
Bedecked with lotuses, pearls and gems,
Lustrous as fire, radiant as gold,

Sarah Hegazi was an Egyptian queer communist activist who was detained, imprisoned, tortured and sexually abused after raising the Rainbow Flag at The Mashrou' Leila concert in 2017. She was forced to flee to Canada leaving behind her family and friends. Sarah wrote her last letter before leaving us:

“To my siblings, I tried to find redemption and failed, forgive me.
To my friends , the experience was harsh and I am too weak to resist, forgive me.
To the world – you were cruel to a great extent, but I forgive.”

Nostalgia in dreams

So lately with this lockdown, I find myself dreaming of cities I fell in love with, cities we visited recently or was about to visit. I dream of wandering around, of cafés and books, theaters and movies, visiting an exhibition and feeling renewed and so inspired afterwards, meeting loved ones here and there, hanging out in parks, discovering hidden corners, nostalgia of what we had, what we took for granted, a walk here and there, smelling the food of restaurants on the way, listening to musicians playing and feeling so connected, to the sky and the cities’ colors, passing between a bunch of people and secretly saluting each of them, smiling at strangers, making eye contacts here and there…

When will we go back to that? Will it be the same again? Will we be able to go back to a place we once knew? Will we be able to hug everyone again without the fear of catching a virus? Will we go to crowded concerts? Cafés? Streets? Maybe not… who knows!

The impermanence of life teaches us a rough lesson. Do not take for granted what you have today, for the present is all we have. This. Now.

{Where do we go when we dream?}
I noticed something lately that happens repeatedly in my dreams. Whenever I feel stuck in a situation that doesn’t feel comfortable, when I am somehow suffering, reliving a trauma, a fear, a fight, or any kind fo discomfort, I always find myself going to the same safe place. I drive, walk or just disappear/appear in front of the sea, as if the sea, this big immense ocean, was/is my secure space. I even recall turning off my phone, every time (funny detail though, as disconnecting to reconnect with nature). 🌊 Sitting looking at the waves, being close to water element relaxes me, makes me remember I am only dreaming. I catch my breath, observe what was bothering me or just find my balance, center, strength, and in that solitude in front of the sea I find my roots, my home. 🐚 I don’t always write my dreams, I wish I do more, but since ever they are so vivid and I often find myself having lucid dreams.

Fertile solitude

If you’d ask me: what is your medicine? How do you heal?

I’d tell you all about solitude, that sacred fertile solitude. That time spent alone, when I am able to really listen and take care of my inner child and her needs, when I can hear my own silence, connect with my intuition, be one with what is, whatever appears, attend it, welcome it, embrace it.

I need and crave to be alone every now and then, it is where my creativity is birthed. Being able to hear the silence between my thoughts, give it space, let it rest. Trees talk, the earth holds me, the sky breaths. I feel one with the whole universe, I cry, I laugh, I shiver and fall in love with this life force and energy that runs through me, through my veins, voice and hands. I can listen to its secrets, to its messages, to whatever she is communicating with me or through me. I sit still and listen closely. This is my medicine. What is yours?
