Bombs are inexpensive traps that remain hidden until they are activated by an attacking troop moving into their trigger radius. Once triggered, Bombs must be re-armed, for a small fee, in order to trigger again during an enemy raid. For example, if one's village successfully defends against an attack, but several Bombs are triggered, then any attacks after that will not have to deal with those Bombs until they are re-armed.

Although they are the weakest of all the Traps, Bombs can still have a positive impact on the effectiveness of a village's defense if properly placed. But only if they are always re-armed after triggering.

The Bomb explodes approximately 1.5 seconds after an enemy comes within 1 tile of it, causing splash damage to every enemy ground troop within 3 tiles. This delay means that you'll want to place the bomb in an area where troops are likely to remain for a period of time, like right next to a building they're attacking.

A single Bomb will not do a great deal of damage to even the weakest of Troops (although every bit helps). However, several Bombs in a cluster can significantly damage or even destroy an entire group of Archers or Goblins.

Defensive Strategy

One defensive strategy commonly used for the placement of Bombs is to position them along the outside wall, behind external buildings. The external buildings serve to delay the enemy troops until they've grouped up, so that when they attack the wall, the bomb hits many troops at once. This is most effective against Tier 1 troops, though grouping enough bombs together can be a serious hazard for Giants, too.
Alternatively, some players decide to place a group of bombs around a Defensive building on the outside of their base, to act as a trap for enemy Giants. Placing a Spring Trap at the entrance to these trapped defense structures makes them even more effective.
Be careful when upgrading a Bomb, as this will reveal its location. Combat this by relocating it during the upgrade period, since it won't trigger during that period anyway. This is useful against players who scout out your base ahead of time for revenge attacks.
Exploiting the way the A.I. targets buildings can dramatically increase the defensive effectiveness of your bombs. For example, a group of 2-3 bombs placed between a pair of resource collectors is very likely to destroy an entire group of Goblins as they pass from one collector to the next.

Inferno Tower

The Inferno Tower shoots jets of flame that burn through even the thickest armor. In single-target mode, the Inferno Tower causes progressive damage to a single target. The longer the tower stays focused on the same target, the more damage it deals. In multi-target mode, the Inferno Tower causes constant damage to up to five targets simultaneously. Troops targeted by the Inferno Tower (in either mode) are not able to be healed, either by Healers or by the Healing Spell. The Inferno Tower doesn't have a favorite target, nor does it deal more damage to any particular troop.

Defensive Strategy

The Inferno Tower in single-target mode is weak against large numbers of Tier 1 (and to a lesser extent Tier 2) troops. Make sure the Inferno Tower is within range of a Mortar or a Wizard Tower so that it is adequately defended.
This defensive structure, when set in single-target mode, is tailor-made to destroy the most powerful of troops, such as Dragons, P.E.K.K.As, and Golems. As such, it is a perfect complement to a Wizard Tower, which is very effective against large numbers of weaker troops, but struggles against those with high health pools. Positioning these two structures close to each other can substantially improve the survivability of both structures (and the rest of your base).
The multiple target mode can be used to easily overwhelm groups of Tier 1 troops or Hog Riders.
Do not place your Inferno Towers too close together; a single Freeze Spell will be able to freeze them both!

Offensive Strategy

This structure (especially in single-target mode) wreaks havoc with most common offensive strategies where heavy units go in first to distract defenses with light units following behind them. Letting your heavy troops get in range of it spells certain doom for them, even high-level Heroes. A combination of Lightning Spells and a group of Minions may be the best way to get at the Inferno Tower if it is behind multiple Walls and defenses.

X-Bow

The X-Bow is a rapid-firing turret that is unique in two ways. First, it must be loaded with Elixir in order to function. Second, it can be configured to target ground units only (at a 14-tile range) or both ground and air units (at an 11-tile range). In ground-only mode, the X-Bow has a range of 14 tiles, the longest of any damaging defensive building in the game (the Air Sweeper has a range of 15 tiles but it does no damage). When the X-Bow is in ground and air mode, however, it is tied with the Mortar with an 11-tile range (the Clan Castle, although not strictly a defense, has a trigger range of 12 tiles). If measured by the area that its firepower can cover (rounded to one tile's area), a centered X-Bow covers 616 tiles in ground-only mode and 380 tiles in ground and air mode, beating the Air Sweeper at 236 tiles and the Mortar at 330 tiles.

Defensive Strategy

A well-placed and loaded X-Bow will dominate attacks, but to be most effective it should not be used as a front-line defense. With the longest range of any defense, it is best placed behind all other defenses, typically in the center of a base.
Remember to refill your X-Bow with Elixir! An unloaded X-Bow is not only a waste of space, it is a good indicator that your base may be neglected and ripe for attack.
If you have two X-Bows, it is recommended to have one set at ground-only and another set at air and ground.
Although the X-Bow shoots rapidly, each shot only does a little damage. Support it with strong defenses so it can quickly take out your enemies!

Offensive Strategy

The X-Bow has essentially no weaknesses unless it is set to ground-only mode, determinable by the way it is angled. If it is horizontal to the ground, it can target ground troops only. If it is tilted up, then it can attack air units as well.
In order to attack an X-Bow, treat it like a longer-ranged (and much stronger) Cannon or Archer Tower, but don't forget that many units can be mowed down very quickly by this defense. Distract it with high-health troops like Giants or P.E.K.K.As, and destroy it with a large group of attackers such as Archers or Barbarians.
Attacking players can see if the defender's X-Bow is loaded or not. Currently there is no way to tell exactly how much Elixir it has left, but a player can visually tell when it is empty. When it is loaded, you will see a small box containing what appears to be small Elixir bolts. An unloaded X-Bow will be lacking the box, and the bowstring will be missing (see image gallery below).
Attacking players can also see if the X-Bow is set to ground-only or both ground and air. Take advantage of ground-only X-Bows and send in air units to destroy it first!
An X-Bow that is empty is completely useless and will not fire. It still must be destroyed to achieve 100% destruction, and troops that preferentially attack defenses (Giants, Balloons, Hog Riders, and Golems) will still target an unloaded X-Bow if it is closer to them than an active defense.

Hidden Tesla

The Hidden Tesla is a defensive building which stays hidden and appears when a ground or air unit gets close, or when 51% of the base is destroyed. The Hidden Tesla is unlocked at Town Hall level 7. The Hidden Tesla will not appear unless the enemy units come within its 6-tile trigger range. The only exception to this rule is that Hidden Teslas will reveal themselves once a base has incurred at least 51% damage, as they must be destroyed (along with all other buildings) in order to achieve 3 stars. Once the Hidden Tesla is revealed, it will stay visible and attack units out to its maximum range of 7 tiles until it is destroyed. The Tesla deals double damage to P.E.K.K.As and prioritizes them over other troops.

Defensive Strategy

It is a good strategy to create "dummy" 2x2 open spaces to make the enemy think they know where your Hidden Teslas are. For example, you unlock 2 Hidden Teslas at Town Hall 7. You could create two empty 2x2 spaces in your base which are actually empty, while deploying your Hidden Teslas elsewhere, increasing the chances of surprising your opponent.

Offensive Strategy

Before attacking, look for obvious places where a Hidden Tesla might be located, and avoid them. If you see a 2x2 empty square space surrounded by Walls, it is very likely that a Hidden Tesla has been placed there.
One Giant and a few Archers can quite easily destroy a Hidden Tesla, as it has relatively low health.
If you have the opportunity to observe a village prior to attacking, such as when planning a revenge, then watch the Villagers. They can reveal the location of Hidden Teslas by walking up to the "empty" spot where the Tesla is hidden and clapping.

Air Sweeper

The Air Sweeper is a defense that shoots blasts of air at Air Troops. Although it deals no damage, it pushes back air troops, giving other defenses more time to take down these troops. It cannot harm ground-based units.

Defensive Strategy

It can only shoot blasts of air in a 120-degree radius, so make sure to have it face the side of the base which is most likely to be attacked by Air Troops.
The level 6 Air Sweeper is capable of holding back a clump of balloons (any level) for an extremely long time, provided there is nothing else in range of the Air Sweeper. Use this fact to cover areas of your base you want to especially defend against balloons.
Have the side that is not covered by the Air Sweeper heavily defended by anti-air defenses such as Air Defenses and Archer Towers if possible. Players may choose not to attack from the side the Air Sweeper is covering and attack from the opposite side - if the side not covered by the Air Sweeper is heavily defended by other anti-air defenses the attack may be defeated quickly and this can lead to a defensive victory.

Offensive Strategy

Air Sweeper can only cover a certain angle, so take advantage and attack buildings that are not covered by the Air Sweeper.
It can only push your troops back a certain distance (dependent on the Air Sweeper's level).
Slow air troops like Balloons will be devastated most by this defense as it will take a relatively long time for them to return to the building it was targeting. Combat this temporarily by using a Rage Spell to speed them up.
A Level 1 Air Sweeper can be destroyed by 2 level 4 or higher Lightning Spells or 3 Lightning Spells of level 3 and below. A maximum-level Air Sweeper can be destroyed by 3 Lightning Spells of level 3 or higher.
It can be distracted by Dragons, Healers or Minions, which can give more time for any other troops to destroy it.
Even though the Air Sweeper covers a 120-degree radius, it can only fire blasts of air that cover a 30-degree angle. If you are going head-on against an Air Sweeper with Air Troops it is recommended to deploy them in a semicircle formation if possible to minimize the effect of the Air Sweeper.

Wizard Tower

The Wizard Tower capable of inflicting powerful splash damage to both Ground and Air Units, though it is limited to a relatively short range.

The Wizard Tower, like the Mortar, excels at mowing down entire groups of Troops. To quickly destroy a Wizard Tower, deploy a few Giants as a distraction while Archers, Wizards or Minions take out the tower. Deploy Troops in a circle around it since this will limit its ability to take out multiple troops with splash damage. Dropping 1 Giant and surrounding the tower with 5 Archers will generally be sufficient to destroy it.

Defensive Strategy

An excellent defensive strategy for the Wizard Tower is to put it near your Town Hall because of the Wizard Tower's splash damage and relatively high rate of fire. However, due to its limited range, it is sometimes more desirable to put the Wizard Tower near the outside of your village.
Putting your Wizard Tower next to your Storages is an excellent method of protecting them against hordes of Goblins due to its splash damage and fast attack speed.
Wizard Towers and Mortars are quite complementary, as they can each cover the other's weaknesses.

Offensive Strategy

For attacking, use some units to distract it (Giants or Barbarians) and destroy it with Archers, Minions, or another ranged troop. Melee troops like Barbarians or Giants can destroy a Wizard Tower by themselves if there are enough of them.

Air Defense

Air Defense is a powerful Defensive Building with a very high damage per second, capable of defending against flying units. Air Defenses can only target and shoot one air troop at a time. It cannot harm ground based units. Air Defense is unlocked at Town Hall level 4.

Defensive Strategy

The Air Defense has an excellent range and a very high damage per shot. The common strategy for Town Hall 8 and above is to position them in a wide triangle (or diamond, once the fouth Air Defense is available) around the Town Hall.
Lava Hounds aim this building first, so make sure you defend it well with other defense which target air troops. Single-target Inferno Towers are most effective, if you have them. If not, other point defenses such as Archer Towers and Hiden Teslas are recommended.
Keep your Air Defenses behind your first lines of defense (e.g Cannons and Archer Towers), ideally with a Wall in between. Doing so will prevent a large Giants or Golems assault from quickly destroying the Air Defense and allowing a Healer to be deployed earlier in the battle. The longer it takes the Giants to destroy the Air Defense, the more time your turrets will have to thin out their ranks before a Healer can be safely deployed.

Offensive Strategy

The Air Defense is a natural target to attack first. Healers are vulnerable to the Air Defense, destroying this building with Giants before deploying Healer is recommended. They are easily destroyed by any ground based troop, as they cannot fight back.
It is highly recommended to keep Balloons away from Air Defense, as they are capable of destroying most Balloons in one or two hits from a great distance.
A great way to overwhelm the Air Defense is use a large group of Minions, since the Air Defense can only target one air unit at a time.

Mortar

The Mortar shoot long range explosive shells every 5 seconds which deal devastating splash damage to every unit within a small radius of the impact point. A Mortar’s major disadvantages are its inability to attack troops within 4 tiles, its low rate of fire and low DPS against high-health troops. Due to the fact that the Mortar’s shell takes a while to reach its target (over a second at maximum range), fast movement troops like Goblins can easily dodge its attack if they are moving when the Mortar fires. The Mortars cannot target air troops.

Defensive Strategy

It is an effective strategy to place Mortar at center of your base. Its long range shoot allows the Mortar to attack from far behind other structures.
Since the Mortar deals heavy splash damage, it can quite rapidly eliminate attacking troops.
It is smart to form a triangle or square with your Mortars near the center of your base, doing so allows multiple Mortar to attack the same area.
Be careful when upgrading the Mortar, as many players use this as a chance to attack. For this reason it is a good idea to upgrade one Mortar only at a time.

Offensive Strategy

The Mortar’s blind spot, low rate of fire, and inability to target air troops tends to make them at risk to a wide variety of different attacks. Fast movement troops like Barbarians or Goblins can rush to the Mortar and quickly enter its blind spot.
The Mortar’s relatively low Hitpoints tends to make it very vulnerable to Giants and Lightning Spells. It takes only a pair of appropriately-leveled Lightning Spells to destroy any Mortar.
Their inability to target air troops tends to make Mortar easy pickings for the Balloons, Dragons and Minions if they are not covered by Air Defenses.
When deploying troops, try to avoid deploying ground troops in clumps. The Mortar does great splash damage.

Archer Tower

The Archer Tower is the first defense that you unlock which can attack air troops. The Archer Towers can target both Ground and Air units at a long distance.

Defensive Strategy

Archer Towers can target both ground and air units at a long distance. For that reason, it is an effective strategy to arrange them on the outer perimeter of the village. This allows players to capitalize on the excellent range and provides good coverage for the rest of the defences.
It is an effective strategy to put an Archer Tower near a Cannon or Mortar because neither of these two defenses can target air units.

Offensive Strategy

Archer Towers are only able to damage one unit at a time. This tends to make it very easy to overwhelm them using large groups of Archers or Barbarians.
When deploying only a few Balloons, it is highly recommended to keep them away from an Archer Tower, as their slow movement speed tends to make them an easy target. However, Balloons deployed in a large numbers can quickly destroy an Archer Tower while only losing one or two Balloons. Once the Archer Towers (and Air Defenses) are taken out, the Balloons will proceed to destroy the the rest of the village.

Cannons are the first defensive structure that a player builds at the start of their Clash of Clans adventure. Cannons can shoot any ground units, like Barbarians, but not any any air units, such as Dragons. The Cannon is capable to rotate in a full 360 degrees. The Cannon and Archer Tower have 13 upgrade levels, the highest of any building in the game.

Deffensive Strategy

Cannons are very useful for keeping Giants from attacking other defenses.
You can defed Mortars and Wizard Towers by placing them within range of Cannons.
Make sure Cannons are placed within range of Air Defense, because Cannons are unable to target air units (or at least in range of an Archer Tower or Wizard Tower).

Offensive Strategy

Cannons are one of the few defensive units that cannot attack air units. This tends to make them easy pickings for Balloons, Dragons or Minions if they are not within range of Air Defenses, Archer Towers or Wizard Towers.
Cannons are only able to damage one unit at a time. This makes it very easy to overwhelm them with large groups of Archers or Barbarians.

Clash of Clans is a strategy game free-to-play app which developed by Supercell. Clash of Clans is an online multiplayer game in which players build a community, train troops, and attack other players to earn gold and elixir, and Dark Elixir, which can be used to build defenses that protect the player from other players' attacks, and to train and upgrade troops. The game also features a single player campaign in which the player can attack a series of fortified goblin villages.

Gameplay in Clash of Clans. A player is attacking another player's village. The amount of resources available for capture are on the top left. The troops available for deployment are along the bottom of the screen.

Troops

Troops are divided into Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, Dark Elixir Troops, and Heroes.

Tier #1 - Consists of Barbarians, Archers, and Goblins.
Tier #2 - Consists of Giants, Wall Breakers (skeletons that carry bombs), Balloons (Wall Breakers in hot air balloons that drop bombs), and Wizards.
Tier #3 - Consists of Dragons, Healers, and P.E.K.K.A.s (heavily armored sword-wielding warriors whose exact identity is unconfirmed).
Dark Elixir Troops - Consists of Minions (which resemble flying imps), Hog Riders,Valkyries , Golems, Witches, and Lava Hounds. These troops are created by using "dark elixir", a special type of elixir that is only available at higher levels, and are also trained in their own "dark barracks".
Heroes - Consists of the Barbarian King and the Archer Queen. Heroes are immortal and are only trained once. They are summoned by an altar rather than being trained in the barracks (or dark barracks) like the other troops. They are trained and upgraded exclusively with dark elixir.

Buildings

To earn and store gold and elixir, players must build gold mines and gold storages and elixir collectors and elixir storages, respectively. Elixir is used to train new troops, carry out research in the laboratory to upgrade troops and to build and upgrade certain buildings, mostly pertaining to buildings used in attacking another player's base. Gold is used to build defensive buildings and to upgrade the town hall, which allows access to more buildings and higher levels for existing buildings. At higher levels, dark elixir becomes available; this type of elixir is used to train and upgrade dark elixir troops and heroes, as well as fuel the "inferno tower", a defensive building that is available only at very high levels. To earn and store dark elixir, players must build dark elixir drills and dark elixir storages.

There are a number of buildings available to the player to defend their community, including cannons, mortars, bombs, traps, archer towers, and wizard towers. Players can also build walls, which can be upgraded as they increase in level.

Clan wars

Clans are groups of players who join together to support each other, either materially (donating troops) or verbally (giving advice). Players can join clans once they rebuild the special Clan Castle building early on. A major component of the gameplay of Clash of Clans is clans facing off against one another. Clan leaders and co-leaders can begin wars against other clans. Each clan is then given one "preparation day" and one "war day." When a player attacks a member of the opposing clan, they receive stars based upon the amount of destruction they cause to the opponent's community. Each player is limited to two attacks per war, and the team with the most stars at the end of the war day is declared victorious, with players receiving bonus war loot if he/she use their attacks in the war and a one more war win record in the clan description.

Gems

Aside from gold and elixir, the game also uses gems as a currency. Gems are awarded for reaching certain milestones, completing achievements and randomly awarded when clearing certain obstacles in your compound. However, the main way to acquire gems is through in-app purchases using real world money. Gems can be used to speed up every aspect of the game, from construction times to troop training to lab research. They can also be used to purchase more resources and builders.
