This is the time of year I wish that I had a regular job. Doing taxes when you are a business owner is a job in itself. Every year I say that I am going to hire someone else to do the taxes, but every year I end up just doing them myself. I must enjoy torturing myself or something.
I like to start the taxes as early as possible because it usually takes me several days or even weeks to complete the task. I usually start by thinking "OK, this year wont be so bad." but in the long run it ends up being worse. There is always something I cant find or my adding skills turn out to be that of a 3rd graders.
Halfway through the task I start to drink because I think "maybe I will be able to think more clearly if I have a drink." Then I get drunk and decide to just leave the damn shit alone for the night. This is usually a nightly occurrence during tax time.
Maybe for my own health I really should have a professional do the taxes this year. I need to face the reality that I am not an accountant I am a private investigator.

Talk about a pain in the ass. You really do take things like heat and refrigeration for granted. We had to throw out some of our food because they were dairy based. Luckily we have a deep freezer down in the basement. We were able to put our meats down in that so they were saved.

A friend of ours brought over a kerosene heater last night and that helped a ton. From what I hear, there still thousands in Michigan and New York without power. The electric company has supposedly hired extra workers to help get everyone back up and running. So for those of you still in the dark, I hope you are able to keep warm and you have good homeowners insurance to help replace any lost food.

Clients that are dishonest! I was contacted a few weeks ago by a woman who wanted a background check done on her "boyfriend." She had a lot of information on this guy and I asked her why she was needing a background check done. She informed me that she feels like he is hiding something from her and also wanted to see if he was a legal US citizen. OK, so I began working on the background check and during the process did not find anything derogatory on this mans record.

The only thing that appeared to be weird about this man was it looked as though he had a woman living at his residence. The next time my client called I asked her how much time she spends with her boyfriend, has she been to his home, how long they have been together etc. I was starting to think that maybe this man was living a secret life and was actually married. My client entertained this idea and acted as if I could be correct. I told her the next time she saw her boyfriend to be subtle and question him. We talked for almost an hour about his behavior's and how I was going to attempt to locate a marriage license to confirm that he was or was not married.

2 days later my client called me back as I instructed her to and I informed her that there was no marriage license to be found. The woman that lived with him at the residence could possibly be his sister since their last names are the same. I asked her if she had any success in questioning her boyfriend and she told me that she did not. He apparently avoided all the questions that she asked him. My client went on and on about how she just had to find some dirt on this man. Then the truth came out.

This man she had hired me to investigate was not her boyfriend after all. He was actually the boyfriend of a family friend. She was trying to get dirt on this guy to show to the friend that he was an asshole and she shouldn't be with him. WOW I was shocked and pretty pissed off. This woman had convinced me that this was HER boyfriend and it was really important that she knew the truth about him so she could either continue the relationship or dump him and get on with her life. I spent a lot of time talking to this woman and feeling bad for her. I took her calls during times that were inconvenient for me and my family because I wanted to help her.

I am pretty sure that she knew if she told me the truth I wouldn't take her case. Damn right I wouldn't!! If the family friend wants to be with this man then that in my opinion is none of anyone's business. I can understand being concerned about someone you care about but to medal around the way this woman did without her friend knowing it is inexcusable.
So, if ever you need any type of investigative work done please be sure to be honest with your investigator from the start. If your situation is complicated or you do not think an investigator would touch it, give all of the details anyways! You might be upset to find that a P.I. will not take your case or you might be surprised that they will. Whatever you do please don't lie. It will only jeopardize the case and cause you to waste money. Lying about the details of a case is considered interfering with the investigation. In our contract it states that if it is found that you are interfering with the case, your case will be terminated and no refunds will be issued.

We have been adjusting to a new schedule the past few weeks and it has been really tough on everyone in the house. My usual "free" time is used up with stuff I HAVE to do because I have no other time left over to do any of it.
Hubby now works a 9 to 5 so I have been thrown back into full time Mom mode. I no longer have him here to share all the household / parenting / business duties with me. It is all on me me me and to be honest I am wiped out lately. It is OK though because I am great full for the 9 to 5.

The only real free time I get anymore is from 8am - 10:20am when our daughter is at preschool. But instead of blogging I will usually just stare at the wall for 2 hours and try to figure out what to do with the quiet time I have just been awarded. By the time I figure out what I want to do or what I want to blog about, it is time to go get the little one from school.
I do not plan on giving up on this blog though. I will get my groove back soon.

We have been attempting to adjust to a new schedule, a friend of ours got married and we ratted out a former friend for messing around with her married boss. A phone call was made to the wife who had no clue her husband had been messing around with his secretary for over a year.

Lets just say, I cant stand people who have no regard for other peoples lives. Especially if the other person has children with her husband. To sit and listen to this woman sob over the phone because she had no clue whatsoever was crushing. She informed me that they just celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary, their sex life was normal and everything seemed "fine." It is a long story and maybe one day soon I will elaborate on it more.

Anyways, Thanksgiving is upon us and I was reminded last week of a missing person case that we did last year around this time. It was a pro bono case because the person that needed our help was a friend of the family. Our client was looking for his brother, who he had not heard from in several years. Apparently, they had a falling out due to alcohol and every year around this time our client would get depressed because he wanted to talk to his brother.

We started looking into things and we found an address but no phone number. When this happens we will sometimes go to the address to see if we can speak to the person directly. We were excited to think that our friend could possibly be spending the holidays with his brother. My husband jumped in the car and told me he would call me with any updates. I waited impatiently to hear from him because I couldn't wait to call our friend to let him know that his brother had been found.

My husband calls me less than an hour later and I could not wait to hear what was going on. That was until he informed me that our missing person died less than 3 weeks ago. My husband went to the apartment and was met by the roommate who informed him that they had found him face down on his bed and it was suspected that he had drank himself to death. Talk about a huge letdown. His roommate told my husband that he would sit and drink with this man and he would always get really upset and start talking about how he missed his brother. Well little did he know his brother who lived 25 miles away was doing the same thing.

I hated having to make the call to inform our friend that his brother had passed away. What we expected to be a great holiday reunion turned out to be a depressing Thanksgiving and Christmas.

LOL I am normally not one to complain much. Ya see, I am the sort that tends to let everything brew up inside and then BLAMO! I figured I would blow up on my blog instead of taking it out on a family member or some homeless guy on the street.

So anyways, I took a break this weekend and dealt with more important things like laundry, shopping, toilets that needed to be cleaned etc. You know the domestic crap that everyone hates doing. So today is Monday and I vow to keep my cool and remain professional for the whole week lol! Today should be a quiet day even though it is Monday. I dont anticipate any major malfunctions but I could be completely wrong.

The holidays are coming and this is usually our slow season. People do not have the extra money to hire us because of the extra expenses they face. Plus, I think people would rather wait unitl after the holidays to find out for sure if their spouse is cheating. Our phone starts blowing up around the new year because people start wanting to make changes in their lives. Alot of those changes include kicking a cheating dirtbag to the curb. Typically around this time of year we get a lot of calls from people looking for lost family etc. Tommorrow, I will tell you a heartbreaking story about a lost family member case we did last year.

Below you will find a letter that you can copy and paste into a word document. Print it out, fill in the blanks and mail it off to the address you see there below. When mailing your request DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY! The FBI only charges a fee if your file is over 100 pages long. And if that is discovered you will be sent a bill for $30. There is no need to send any money when sending a request. Also please be sure to include a copy of your drivers license or State issued ID.

My street address: ___________________________________

My city, state, and zip: _________________________________

November 12, 2008

Federal Bureau of Investigation
Records/Information Dissemination Section
170 Marcel Drive
Winchester, VA 22602-4843

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT / PRIVACY ACT REQUEST

Dear Sir or Madam:

This is a request for records under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act. To assist you with this search I am providing the following information about myself:

My full name: ________________________

Other names used: ________________________

My date of birth: ________________________

My place of birth: ________________________

My Social Security number: _________________

I am enclosing a copy of my driver's license or other state-issued photo ID.

Please search both your automated indices and the older general (manual) indices.

This is an individual request for research and study purposes, and I agree that I will pay up to $30 for fees, if necessary. Please notify me in advance if fees are expected to exceed that amount. If the file is likely to result in more than 250 pages, I would appreciate receiving a digital copy of the file on a CD-ROM rather than in paper form.

If you have any questions, please call me at ____________________.

Under penalty of perjury, I hereby declare that I am the person named above and I understand that any falsification of this statement is punishable under the provisions of Title 18, United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 1001 by a fine of not more than $10,000 or by imprisonment of not more than five years, or both; and that requesting or obtaining any record(s) under false pretenses is punishable under the provisions of Title 5, U.S.C., Section 552a(i)(3) as a misdemeanor and by a fine of not more than $5,000.

Sincerely,

The answer to your question is yes.

If you are an adult citizen of the United States, or if, after 1996, you have ever applied for credit, you have an FBI File. At that time the FBI spent millions with ChoicePoint Inc. to buy information on virtually all adults living in the United States with any credit or public record history. ChoicePoint, formerly a part of credit-reporting company Equifax, is a database compiler selling personal information for a profit.

Using your Social Security number as the key identifier, ChoicePoint compiles dossiers on citizens from credit reports, and from public records such as court files, property tax documents, business incorporation filings, and professional license applications. ChoicePoint aggregates this up-to-date information and sells it to the FBI. Following below is a list of the other most common areas of collection:

Everyone arrested and booked into custody of law enforcement - a police record
Government employees
Immigrants who have become U. S. citizens
All those with Green Cards
Foreign nationals visiting the United States
Every person involved in counter-intelligence
Suspected organized crime members
Members of recognized 'hate groups'
Elected/Serving Politicians
Professionals fingerprinted for their profession, example: stock brokers; realtors
Close associates of the above listed categories of people.

Tommorrow I will explain how you can obtain your own FBI file.

It could also be the state of Michigan checking up on us to make sure we are not abusing our privileges. It is always a different person that calls and they claim they have a "judgment" against an individual and need to locate them so they can collect the money that is owed to them. When questioned about whether they have an attorney that we can submit the findings to, they always say "no". When told that they need to supply us with proof of such a judgment, they beat around the bush and claim they "haven't actually filed" yet. Then they ask "Well when you find their info cant you just give it to me?"

Yea, if we wanted to lose our license and never be able to work in this field again. But, we do this type of work because we love it and well it feeds our kids and keeps a roof over our heads. Some people get down right rude when we tell them no we do not just give them a person's contact information. I never intend to offend anyone when I tell them no. But we have to protect people and you never know what a persons intentions are.
If a person is looking for a long lost love or classmate we usually tell people that we can locate them and then we will contact them on their behalf. That way if a person does not want to be contacted by the person searching for them they have the choice. Most people will be OK with this because they understand there are privacy issues etc.
So my advice to stalkers out there: Don't try to hire a private investigator to assist you in your dirty work. Most legitimate, law abiding P.I.'s will not just give you a persons information. No, not the kind of trash that spews from peoples mouths. Were talking about garbage. Did you know that some of us sneaky private investigators will snag someone's garbage the night before trash pickup to see what kind of info we can find out about them?

I know your thinking OMG HOW GROSS!! Well yea, at times it can be rather gross, but there are times that we have to do it. Don't worry rubber gloves are always a necessaity!! When we have exhausted all efforts during an investigation the final step is usually a garbage pull. P.I.'s are not the only ones that utilize this little tactic. A lot of agencies from the IRS, police and FBI will often do this too. Im not trying to make you paranoid but it is true.

Why? Well your garbage will probably tell us more information about you than you even think. Likes and dislikes in food, cosmetics you use, medications you may be taking, personal correspondences, bank statements, who's names are on utility bills, where you shop at etc...

For every person who thinks this technique will not work, I challenge you to go through your own trash for a one week period. Write down everything that you can conclude about your household. Are you now considering burning your trash?

I thought you might find it to be interesting.

By Robert Scott, P.I.

Photocopiers can now be added to the list of items leaking personal data, according to the Sharp copier company. The company recently released a security advisory warning that the hard drives on many photocopiers are storing scanned documents -- long after actual copies have been made.

Does this mean that a person who stops by the corner copy shop to copy his income tax form is at risk of his personal information being compromised? Or that anyone with access to the company office machine after hours can do some unauthorized intelligence gathering?

This story was widely circulated on Internet news sites and elsewhere recently. I wanted to learn if this was really true or just an Internet myth, so I made a trip to my local copy shop. There were two basic types of copiers. A Xerox Docucolor and a Canon ImageRunner. I couldn't get anything out of the Xerox. On the Canon, after exploring the various menus and sub menus I found my way to a "recall" option where the last three items printed were still available! I picked one and it started printing out 60 copies of an actress's resume! Apparently, that's who had been on the machine before me! So, is there a security flaw on some digital copy machines? Apparently so!
Robert Scott is a Los Angeles-based private investigator and author of "The Investigator's Little Black Book."
© 2008 Crime Time Publishing Co., Inc. We personally cannot do much with these types of cases except find out where the non paying parent is employed. Once we get that info it is up to the individual seeking support to do the rest of the legwork.

In most cases, once the court determines an amount the process goes fairly smooth. But when a parent goes missing or doesn't want to pay, all states have child support enforcement offices that will help. Often times they will help track down the parent and order them to pay. There are many ways to get the other parent to pay.

These include:

Withholding income

Withholding unemployment benefits

Withholding disability benefits

Taking money from bank accounts

Taking money from taxes

Taking vehicles or other property

If the other parent is not paying the required support here is a link that will direct you to your particular states child support support office. The Office Of Child Support Enforcement

I hope this will help either you or someone you know.

Thread a needle. Locate a spot on the side of the mattress toward the head of the bed. Then within about ¼ inch send it back thru both. Cut the thread so that only a couple inches of each end is left hanging inside. Repeat this on the other side. If you check the thread when you come home you will know that the bed was used. Remember, this proves only that it was used. It may have very legitimately been for a nap. You will need to do some further investigation to find out more.

Who doesn't? I recently discovered a website called BlogforProd that gives bloggers like us the opportunity to give feedback and opinions on all different types of products and services. In return for your efforts you get the product you talk about for FREE. Blog about something you find interesting and within a few days that product gets shipped to you free of charge. The website is still in the beginning stages, but so far I really like what I see. I have already blogged about one item in particular, and I recieved it within 3 days.
It was great being able to talk about something that I like and in return get it for free.. Are you kidding me?? How much easier can that get?
For my readers, I need you to know that I do not make any money for blogging about this website. I am trying to spread the word about this because I think there are many of you out there that would enjoy doing this. This is NOT an affiliate program, just a site to go check out and enjoy. Go get yourself some Prod!

I get to pass out caaannndddyyyyy and husband gets to take our little pumpkin witch out trick or treating! My 12 year old son (who thinks he is too old to hang out with his parents now) is going out begging with his friends. So what does all of this mean?

It means I get to crack open an ice cold Budweiser and scare the crap out of little kids!! YES! I am so excited!

This morning was an adventure to say the least. We volunteered to help out at my daughter's preschool for the Halloween party. Talk about an overdose of tasks handed to us and kids hopped up on sugar! 8am is way too early for me to deal with that kind of mess. But I did it with a smile and couldn't wait to get home and chase a couple of Advil down with a red bull.

Oh by the way, have I mentioned lately that I cant stand high maintenance, bitchy, I know your job better than you do clients? Well in case I haven't told you lately THEY SUCK! I'm glad that I can vent my frustrations on here because believe it or not, I deal well with these types of clients. I always maintain professionalism and remain calm when situations occur that royally piss me off. If they only knew what I was really thinking.

We have seen things that would remind you of something out of an episode of Cheaters or Jerry Springer even. We do not condone nor encourage any of our clients to lash out with violence or destruction. Nevertheless, it sometimes does happen.

Last year around the beginning of summer, we did a case for a woman who had been married to her husband for over 20 years. Upon meeting her, we concluded that she was one of the sweetest women you could possibly meet. She was coy and had a tone to her voice that melted our hearts. It is sometimes difficult for us to not be emotionally attached to some (I said some) of our clients. At first, we were sure that her husband was not cheating on her. We had gone out several times and got no evidence whatsoever that would indicate an affair. We chalked up our clients feelings as a midlife crisis or symptoms of menopause. However, even we are wrong at times.

We were out making our final attempt at gathering evidence when low and behold he picked up a young woman from a restaurant parking lot after leaving his office and immediately headed to a hotel down the road. We were not sure if this woman was a hooker or just his much younger girlfriend but regardless of what she was, we knew they were not eating snacks and sipping tea in that hotel room. To make a long story short, we were shocked at what we found.

So once we got back to the office it was time to telephone the client and break the news. This is never an easy task especially when the client is sweet and low maintenance. The phone call went well until the husband walked into the door while we were still on the phone with her. Instead of telling us, that he was home and hanging up the phone, she decided to just set the phone down. What we heard for the next few minutes scared us so bad that we ended up hanging up on our end and calling the police to have a police car dispatched out to their home.

There was screaming, obscenities that a sailor would be shocked to hear, items breaking, fists a flailing and you could hear the husband screaming in pain. It was terrible and something I never expected from this sweet woman. Needless to say, the evidence we had, was sent over to her attorney instead of having to meet with this crazy woman ever again.

I have been contemplating this decision for way too long. My husband made the switch well over 3 months ago and hes been trying to convince me that I NEED THIS! With all that I do on the computer I NEED THIS! So I took the plunge this morning and here I sit enjoying the wonderful new fancy features that Firefox offers. I will post something more interesting later on I promise. Right now, I need to enjoy this new high I have.

Woo Hoo! Touching a person with the little prongs on the gun quickly immobilizes the assailant by causing intense pain and loss of muscle control. Another Woo Hoo!

However, because the amperage is very low, no serious or lasting injury is inflicted. Police departments, security agencies, and individuals desiring protection against attack use stun guns. They have been proven an excellent defensive device as they have absurd stopping power and yet remain non-lethal. Typically, they operate on one or two 9-volt batteries and range from 65,000 volts to 500,000 volts. OUCH!! Well what a lot of people do not know is that stun guns are illegal to have and carry in some States. Bummer!
So for your information, I have compiled a list of countries, states and cities where having one is against the law.

STATES WHERE STUN GUNS ARE RESTRICTED:
INDIANA
HAWAII
MASSACHUSETTS
MICHIGAN (DAMN IT, I REALLY WANT ONE!)
NEW JERSEY
NEW YORK
RHODE ISLAND
WISCONSIN
ILLINOIS

CITIES WHERE STUN GUNS ARE RESTRICTED:
ANNAPOLIS, MD
BALTIMORE, MD
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD
CHICAGO, IL DENSION / CRAWFORD COUNTY, IA (*According to Sheriff Tom Hogan*) DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
PHILADELPHIA

COUNTRIES THAT STUN GUNS ARE RESTRICTED:
AUSTRALIA
BELGIUM
CANADA
DENMARK
HONG KONG
INDIA (POLICE USE ONLY)
ITALY
JAPAN
NEW ZEALAND
NORWAY
SWEDEN
SWITZERLAND
UNITED KINGDOM

So basically if you live ANYWHERE you cant have one LOL, if you don’t live in any of the above countries, states or cities then you can learn more about the different varieties available and what kind of damage can be done with this nifty little tool at this website Stun Guns . This question has been racking my brain for several days now. My husband and I received a wedding invitation from a dear friend of ours just the other day. And just 3 weeks before receiving this invite, we were helping her uncover evidence that her boyfriend/fiance was cheating on her. We uncovered a lot, including a current profile he had on a popular dating site.

She confronted him and was in the process of dumping him. She was even looking at apartments and houses to rent. She asked us if she could use us as references on job applications etc. She was dead set on breaking free from this loser and now this! What makes a person go from "You make me want to throw up." to "Oh, I love you so much, of course I will marry you"? I just don't get it.

Regardless of what her choices are in life, the bottom line is it is her life. I will not preach to her or try to change her mind. I guess she will learn on her own and when she does I will still be the friend that she needs. It is not my job to judge or tell her what to do. It is my job to catch her when she falls.

She did not have a whole lot of funds to work with, so surveillance was not an option for her. She noticed that her boyfriend started acting different several months ago and her gut was telling her that he is cheating. All the typical signs were there and he started coming home later and later. As I tell everyone, 95% of the time your gut instinct is right. However, I always stress that you should NEVER confront a person just because you have a hunch. You need proof to back up your claims.

This is a special type of service we offer that takes someone’s e-mail addresses, possible screen names, personal information, etc and scans multiple dating and social network sites. We already have “fake” profiles set up on multiple dating sites that we use just for this purpose. We provide this service for a reasonable fee since it doest take us hours of time. I always warn people that use this service; we cannot guarantee that we will come up with anything.

Well, in this particular case we found something all right. We found a lot of dirt on this guy. Things that our client had no idea her boyfriend was in to. Apparently, this man has several fetishes that include some disturbing things such as bondage, urination (water sports), and dirty underwear. There was other “stuff” I found but I will not go there as it may cause someone reading this to get a visual and vomit in his or her mouth. So I will leave the rest up to your imagination.

So I wasn’t really sure how to break the news to my client. I made the phone call with great hesitation and explained to her in the most professional way I could. Of course, she did not believe me at first but when I sent her, the info I found it was enough to confirm that I was correct. I did not ask her what she planned to do next because frankly it is none of my business. I just wished her luck and told her that if she ever needed anything else to give me a call. Oyyyy theeyy.

Bad things can happen and many of those things are out of our control. Natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, fires, blackouts, floods are all things that we cannot do anything to control. However, being prepared for these types of things can make dealing with disasters or emergencies a lot easier to handle. So with that said, do you have a survival kit? If you answered no to this question then you really need to think about having one. A survival / emergency kit cannot only help you in the event of an emergency but it can also help rescue personal deal with the situation more efficiently.

A great website that I found recently has a full range of survival kits geared towards many types of emergencies and disasters. The person who created this website 1800prepare.com started this company because he truly cares about this topic. He was a volunteer firefighter for over six years and spent time at ground zero. He was also in the security business for over 12 years. So he knows quite a bit about this topic. In addition, he donates a portion of his sales to groups and organizations that respond to disasters and help people recover afterwards.

The kits offered come in a wide variety of sizes and price and would make a great, meaningful gift for the upcoming holiday season. Personally, I would love to get something like this as a gift instead of an itchy wool sweater that I would end up returning to the store anyway. In addition, if you are a business owner and are sick of giving out the typical boring gifts to clients and employees like candy or calendars year after year, a kit like this would make a lasting impression.

Well if you know their last known address perform this little trick to get the new address mailed to you within a week.

Send an empty envelope to their latest known address, with "Do Not Forward - Address Correction Requested" stamped or written on it. The Post Office will return it to you in about a week with the target's forwarding address. Most people do change their address with the post office when they move so there is a pretty good chance that this will work for you. I need to stress that it is very important that you write or stamp the Do Not Forward - Address Correction Requested on the envelope. For whatever reason, we have had an increase in business. I am not complaining that is for sure. We have had two background checks, one skip trace, one cell phone number trace and one infidelity case. All within the past couple of days. I have been busy as a bee and I am feeling a sense of relief at this point because I can now pay some bills.

We hit a dry spot for about 2 months and I started to panic. Our bills started to fall behind and I was lacking some serious confidence. I have to say that the only thing that really sucks about this business is the uncertainty of the amount of business we will get. Sometimes our phone will not ring for weeks, and then out of nowhere we get flooded. It is a feast or famine type of business and I wish that we could predict our income a little better.

We did get a call today from a young man looking for work. He was local and told us he just finished his Bachelor's in criminal justice and was thinking about starting his own P.I. business. During the conversation, we told him the truth. The economy had really caused our business to suffer and now P.I. work is best as a "side" job. It sucks because this kind of work is enjoyable, but the reality of it is; in these hard economic times this work has to become "side work". IT SUCKS because I LOVE my job!
