The Coolest Calendar Ever...'Cause It's Mine!

Wall calendars are usually the last thing I think of before or after the Christmas rush, Boxing Day and New Years. Then it's normally a last-minute purchase of what I could get from what's left in the shops. This year I have a better idea for keeping track of birthdays, anniversaries and appointments. I am going to create a beautiful high-quality personalized calendar that will keep everyone smiling all year long. Looking back at old photos can bring back some great memories.

An excellent birthday reminder idea is to add someone's photo to the calendar on their birth date. All I need is some photos of friends and family. I could even use the family holiday photos as my personalized cover or rather a collage of candid shots taken of the kids playing with the family pet or on the beach. I can even include some motivational quotes for each month. I'm even thinking of creating calendars as a gift to family members and for the grandparents on a yearly basis with different photos each year. You can use a photo of last year’s Christmas tree for December 25.

So if you are interested in having a cool personalized calendar created for your family, give me a call or email me on effexphotography@bigpond.com, visit www.effexphotography.com or find us on facebook .

We can even arrange a photo shoot specifically for creating your special wall calendar.
Simply choose your calendar size and style. Then send us your photos and birthday list, anniversaries and any other special event dates and photos. Leave the rest up to us.

Available sizes: Oversized (14.25" x 21.75" ) | Standard (10.25" x 15.6")

Antonette's Photographic Artist Profile

I love snapping shots of nature and everything around me and love to share it with others. There is a new masterpiece to capture every day. The interesting part about photography is that you never stop learning - there is always something I could have done differently. I guess that's why I find it to be so much fun.

2010-08-07T22:27:00.000-07:00

Recently South Eastern Queensland experienced an unusual misty morning causing havoc on the roads, airports and ferries around Brisbane and the Gold Coast. While most people only noticed the issues that came with the mist, I was taking the oppertunity to capture the beauty while I had the chance. The first photo of a bottle brush with a spider web full of tiny little water drops. The second photo was taken at Coomera Waters marina.

Do I need a photographer & photography studio?

2010-07-30T19:12:00.000-07:00

My friend has a pretty good camera - I don’t need a photographer and/or studio.

Have you noticed how professional photographs have that something extra that makes photos even more special? The reason...A professional photographer will give you that something different, bold, and creative. Something that you can’t get anywhere else. Even if your friend or neighbour has a fancy camera, and he/she took some photography classes, it’s just not as good as the years of experience and professional gear that a professional photographer has.

Why use a professional photographer and what kind of specialties are out there?

With the arrival of digital camera's we all became hooked on the immediate gratification that came with it. We became instant phorographers with the hunger for more. Today we take pictures all the time, unlike the past where the whole family booked a photo session at the professional photographer and got dressed up for the occasion. Professional photographers, however, still play an important role. They provide top-notch photographs that are sophisticated, designed, and unique. They use professional lighting gear, backgrounds, and professional techniques to get ‘studio-quality’ photographs. These days mobile studios are very popular. Instead of you travelling to the studio, it comes to you or a pre-arranged location. Photo shoots on location are now not only availabe for weddings, but also for portraits of families, pets and kids etc. Locations can include the beach, in the park, or in the comfort of your own home.

Professional photographers specializes in various areas:

• kids and babies
• pets
• maternity photos
• events (weddings, parties, etc.)
• jewelry photos
• the ad industry
• food photos

Effex Photography spesializes in weddings, and portraits of families, kids, pets, maternity and babies.

Common photography studio gear

A photography studio can provide you with an array of props or backdrops. In a baby shoot, for example, you will be able to put your baby on an old fashioned scale, or inside an oak barrel. For family portraits, there are all sorts of background – each with a different effect. You also have the choice between kinds of lighting – soft, delicate, harsh, etc. The photographer will tell you about all the options and will be able to show you some examples of her work. Finally, the photography studio will probably have a wardrobe from which you can choose all sorts of accessories: scarves, costumes, hats, and makeup. You can have lots of fun there if you’re in the mood for playing dress-up.

How do you choose a photography studio?

• First, find a photographer that has experience with the kind of work you require.
• Look for a place that’s near. A 2-hour drive to the location might ruin the whole experience.
• Check out the photographer's website. Look at the sample photos and see if you like their style.
• Price is always important (but not the most important thing…)

What to do on the day ?

Makeup
The camera accentuates everything, so put a little make up on and finish it off with some powder to reduce shine. The makeup will give your face a smoother, more uniform look and will look great on film – and yes, we’re talking about you guys too! Using anything else (blush, eyeliner, etc.) is up to you. You can also hire a makeup artist (the studios always know some), but that will cost you extra.

Kids in the studio
Bring your kids when they are well rested and well fed - you don’t want them to be cranky and restless. Bring their favorite toy, security blanket, or pacifier. Kids, especially little ones, might not enjoy being in a strange place. Don’t force it on them. If they are not in the mood we recommend that you re-book the studio for a different time.

Family portraits
It’s important that everybody arrives happy for the family portrait. Get there after a good night sleep and a good meal. You can bring props from home or use the ones they have at the studio. It’s a good idea to pick the theme, the background, the outfits, and the props (if any) in advance. Then you can be natural and relaxed in the photo shoot. Don’t expect to be able to ‘direct’ everybody (especially not toddlers), so trust the photographer and follow her directions.

And remember, it's all about you having a good time. The more fun you have the better your photos will be, and especially the memory of the experience.

Fifa World Cup South Africa 2010

2010-06-04T19:28:00.000-07:00

Born and raised in Mpumalanga South Africa, I just had to blog about the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament that will be held in 9 cities across Republic of South Africa from June 11 to July 11, 2010. I have also added some awesome images and information below relating to the brand new spectacular stadiums built in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban (my personal favourate).

South Africa regularly hosts major international sporting events, and since 1994 has successfully managed some of the biggest - including the 1995 Rugby World Cup, the 2003 Cricket World Cup, the Women's World Cup of Golf in 2005 and 2006 and, in January 2006, the only street race in the inaugural A1 GP World Cup of Motorsport.

The Final 10 Stadiums

Green Point Stadium, Cape Town
Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban
Nelson Mandela Stadium, Port Elizabeth
Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit
Ellis Park Stadium, Johannesburg
Soccer City, Johannesburg
Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Pretoria
Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein
Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg
Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane

Five of South Africa's football stadiums have undergo major renovations for 2010: Soccer City and Ellis Park in Johannesburg, Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, the Royal Bafokeng stadium in Rustenburg in North West province, and Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein in the Free State. New stadiums have been built at Mbombela in Mpumalanga and in the Nelson Mandela Metro (encompassing Port Elizabeth) in the Eastern Cape.

NEW! Moses Mabhida Stadium - Durban

Named after the former Secretary general of the South African Communist Party Moses Mabhida Stadium is a custom built structure commissioned as part of Durban’s preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2010 Soccer Tournament. The old Kings Park Soccer Stadium was demolished to make way for this new, state of the art facility. Durban has a long history of soccer with the first national league started in the city.

Moses Mabhida Stadium has a seating capacity of between 70,000 and 80,000 people, and is intended after the World Cup Tournament to serve Durban as a multi-use stadium. It is situated adjacent to the ABSA Stadium in the Kings Park Sporting Precinct which hosts a variety of different sporting disciplines including athletics, rugby, golf and swimming. The new complex will include an indoor arena, sporting museum, sports institute and a new transmodal transport station.

The ground epitomises the architectural innovation on display in South Africa and takes its design inspiration from the South African flag, with its grand arch representing the unity of this sport-loving nation. The two legs of the arch on the southern side of the stadium come together to form a single footing on the northern side (forming a Y as on the South African flag), symbolising the new unity of a once-divided country.

The stadium has been specifically designed as a multi-purpose venue and an amphitheatre complete with a cable car which ascends to a viewing platform at the top of the expansive 350m arch, a staggering 106m above the pitch. From this vantage point, visitors can experience spectacular panoramic views of the nearby shoreline and the city. The roof is attached to the arch by 95mm-diameter steel cables. Each seat of the stadium is spacious and comfortable, providing a clear line of sight to the pitch.

It is a world-class and multifunctional arena located in the heart of the Kings Park Sporting Precinct. Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium will be the jewel in the crown of the Kings Park Sporting precinct. The entire area will feature additional sporting arenas and facilities as well as restaurants, shops, play areas for children and a pedestrian walkway linking the stadium complex to the beach.

NEW! Green Point Stadium-Cape Town

One of the most artistic football venues in South Africa, the newly-built Green Point Stadium is situated in one of the much sought-after areas in the city of Cape Town.

The Green Point Stadium in Cape Town has been transformed into a completely new 70 000 seater, all-weather, multi-purpose, environmentally sustainable, modern, technologically advanced, world class Stadium giving expression to the “African Renaissance Stadium” at the juncture between Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean at the southern tip of Africa.

This multi-purpose venue is also going to be used to stage major events and concerts. Fans will be a stone's throw from the ocean and the mountains of Cape Town will also provide the backdrop for matches. The location is ideal as it is a short walk from the transportation hub of the city. The new stadium has been partly built on land that was previously used as a golf course.

The stadium, which has an exterior that is covered with noise-reducing cladding. The Green Point Common, on which the new 2010 stadium is built, was originally much larger than what now remains, and included most of the land between the sea and Signal Hill, stretching from the city centre towards Sea Point.

Soccer City Stadium (FNB Stadium) – Johannesburg

One of the most artistic and awe-inspiring football venues on the African continent, the newly-reconstructed Soccer City Stadium will host the first and final matches of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™.

Home to South African football heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs, the 94,000 capacity Soccer City has undergone a US$310 million revamp for these finals. The ground's design is inspired by the iconic African pot known as the calabash (image on the right), and its aesthetic appeal will be heightened when the stadium is lit at night.

The stadium is widely regarded as the heart of football in South Africa as it has hosted many important matches through history. Built in 1987, Soccer City has played host to some of the most memorable matches in South Africa’s soccer history. Before the makeover, the ground literally used to shake with the fervour of supporters, so expect the extra capacity to turn the volume up to stunning levels. Soccer City (also know as the FNB Stadium) is earmarked to host both the opening and final matches of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

I know that there are a lot of negitive things happening in South Africa, but time heals what reason cannot.

I wish South Africa the very best and great success during, as well as after the 2010 soccer world cup.

I can hardly believe that this jumping koi was my first great achievement since making the decision to follow my passion for photography. After hours of waiting for the right time, and hundreds of images later, I managed to capture this stunning golden koi fish as it leaped into the air. To my amazement the water beneath the fish was dead still and shows the reflection of the fish perfectly.
To my astonishment, this was my first photograph to be featured on the Photo Art Gallery during February and March 2010 as well as on Wix Photography blog during August 2010. It felt fantastic! It has been seen and admired by thousands of photographic artists and photographic art lovers from all over the globe.
Thank you to my family for your patience and loving support !
