Goa has become the first state to achieve 100% 'Har Ghar Jal' certification under the Jal Jeevan Mission of the Jal Shakti Ministry. According to the Ministry, Goa has become the first state in the country to provide 100% tap water connections in rural areas covering

2,63,013 households. Recently, Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh became the first 'Har Ghar Jal' certified district of the country.

The government's Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide piped water to all rural households by 2024. Even earlier in 2020, this is.what the government had claimed. Indian Railways Trialled Country'sLongest Goods Train Super Vasuki

On the occasion of completion of 75 years of India's independence, the Railways have conducted operational trial of longest goods train in the country under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Railways have named it Super Vasuki Train.

The railway was operated by South Eastern Central Railway. The 3.5 km long Super Vasuki goods train with 295 coaches travelled between Korba in Chhattisgarh to Rajnandgaon in Nagpur carrying 27000 tons of coal on 15 August.

It took about four minutes for Super Vasuki to pass through a station during this journey. According to the Railways, SuperVasuki has been prepared by combining five normal freight trains.

A 3000 MW power plant can be run throughout the day with as much coal as can be carried in Super Vasuki at a time. This is almost three times more than the current freight train capacity of the Railways.

of court cases related to drug trafficking from any part of the country.

NIDAAN' or 'National Integrated Database on Arrested Narco- Offenders' has been developed by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). This is part of the Narcotics Coordination System portal which was launched by Home Minister Amit Shah on 30 July in Chandigarh.

On August 18, 2022, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has inaugurated India's first E-Double Decker Air- conditioned Bus in Mumbai. Switch Mobility Limited, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, has manufactured this bus.

It is known as Switch Electric Vehicle-22. The bus is equipped with latest technology, state-of- the-art design, comfortable and high safety equipment.

Emphasizing on a pollution-free India, the Road Transport and Highways Minister said that 35

percent of the pollution in the country is due to petrol and diesel. Gadkari said that the automobile industry is an important business for the country as it has immense employment potential. He said that

this industry pays the highest Goods and Services Tax to the States and the Central Government. Gadkari described the import of crude oil as one of the

main challenges that the country is currently facing.

Asia's Largest Compressed Biogas Plant Begins Commercial Production at Sangrur, Punjab

Recently Asia's largest Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Sangrur district of Punjab has startedbcommercial production. The plant with a total capacity of 33.23 tons of CBG per day was commissioned in April, 2022 at Bhuttal Kalan village (Sangrur). It is being supplied to Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).In addition, PEDA (Punjab Energy Development Agency) has allocated 42 additional CBG projects with a total capacity of 492.58 tons per day (TPD) based on paddy straw and other agricultural residues. The objective of these projects is to create a sustainable solution to

prevent stubble burning and strengthen the rural economy.

These projects are expected to generate private investment of about Rs 1,200 crore and provide

employment to 8,000 skilled and unskilled people. Two more plants with a total capacity of 14.25 tons

of CBG per day are expected to be ready in 2022-23. It is estimated that the remaining projects will be

commissioned within the next three years.

Recently, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced to give 2 percent reservations in

jobs to sportspersons in all government departments of the state government. Presently only Police and Forest Department areproviding 2 percent reservation for sportspersons during recruitment.

Apart from this, the state government has decided to

recognize basketball as a state sport.

He said that the state government has realized that there is a need to provide job security to the sportspersons and urged them to play for the country. "The rest will be taken care of by the government," he said.

On August 16, 2022, Dr. Bharti Praveen Pawar, Union Minister of State for Health launched the

'Paalan 1000 National Campaign' in virtual mode. A parenting application was also unveiled on

the occasion which mainly focuses on the development of children in the first two years.

According to the Union Minister of State for Health, India has taken quick steps to reduce child mortality since 2014. As a result the child mortality rate has come down to 35 per 1000 live births in the year 2019 as compared to 45 per 1000 live births in the year 2014.

This campaign has been started because the first 1000 days serve as a solid foundation for the physical,

emotional, mental, cognitive and social health of the child. ‘Paalan 1000 – The First 1000 Days Journey’

includes early years training for families, parents and caregivers as well as services to meet the basic

needs of families.

The parenting application was launched at the “Early Childhood Development Conclave” to provide practical advice to caregivers about what they can do in their daily routine. It will also help in clearing many doubts of the parents.

Uttarakhand launches Dettol School Hygiene Education program in primary schools

In order to create awareness about hygiene among the children in primary schools of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has launched Dettol School Hygiene Education Program on 16th August, 2022. For this, a Memorandum of Understanding

(MoU) was signed between the state's education department and consumer health and sanitation

giant Racket. This Hygiene education program will be run in 13 thousand primary schools in all the 13 districts of the state.

Speaking on the occasion, the ChiefnMinister said that this program would bring about a change in thendaily behaviour of children towards hygiene. He said that it is necessary to create awareness amongnchildren about hygiene in personal, schools, homes and nearby areas.

The Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand is the first state in the country to implement the National

Education Policy-2020. He said thatnBal Vatikas have been started in 4457 Anganwadi centers in the

state and new programs liken'Praveshotsav', 'Aarohi',N'Kaushalam', 'Anandam', 'Vidya Setu' are being run.

'Golden Joint' of world's highest rail bridge over Chenab river inaugurated

'Golden Joint' of world's highest rail bridge over Chenab river inaugurated

On 13 August, 2022, the work of connecting the two ends (Golden Joint) of the world's highest rail bridge linking the Chenab River in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir was completed. The bridge is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 28,000 crore.

This is a major achievement towards the completion of the 111 km long Katra-Banihal railway section, for which the Himalayan hills are being mined. Of this, 97 km of tunneling is to be done for the project and till now about 86 km of tunneling work has been completed.

The overarch deck of the world's highest rail bridge with 'Golden Joint', a part of the Udhampur- Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, has been completed and the track laying work for trains will start soon. The bridge over the Chenab river is capable of withstanding wind speeds of up to 266 kmph and weighs 10,619 tons.

The construction of this project includes construction of 26 km of motorable roads for local villages, production of about 28,660 metric tons of steel at an estimated cost of Rs 1,486 crore and more than 80 per

cent of the construction has been done in site-workshops at Kauri, Bakkal and Surandi.

The steel used in the structure is suitable for temperatures ranging from minus 10 °C to minus 40 °C. The minimum life of the bridge will be 120 years and it is being made for trains with speed of 100 km. This bridge has the ability to withstand blast load and severe earthquake. The bridge has 93 deck sections, each of which weighs approximately 85 tons.

On August 17, 1947, two days after the country gained independence from British rule 75 years ago, the Radcliffe Line, a boundary line dividing the subcontinent, was published, through which the

border between India and newly created Pakistan was demarcated. After the formation of two countries, an international border was also fixed for it, which was named Radcliffe Line.

Shortly before independence a commission was set up to recommend the division of the Punjab and Bengal regions of the Indian subcontinent. The commission, appointed by the last Viceroy of British India, Lord

Mountbatten, was headed by the British lawyer Sir Cyril Radcliffe. This border was finalized on 12 August, but was published on 17 August 1947. It was decided by Radcliffe; hence the line is named after him.

It is worth mentioning that Sir Cyril Radcliffe did this work on his first visit to India. Under this West

Punjab became part of Pakistan, East Punjab was given to India and East Pakistan was created by the

partition of Bengal.

Located on the road near Shaukat Mahal, this three-storey building was built by the then ruler of Bhopal state, Nawab Qudsia Begum (1819-37) in 1820 AD. It is a beautiful piece of architecture. The name of Qudsia Begum was also Gauhar, hence this palace is known as 'Gauhar Mahal'.

This palace is the first palace of the princely state of Bhopal. The specialty of this palace is that its decoration has been done by mixing Indian and Islamic

architecture. This palace is a wonderful amalgamation of Hindu and Mughal art.

Recently Mandla, a tribal dominated district of Madhya

Pradesh has become the first'functionally literate' district in the country. A person can be said to be functionally literate when he is able to write his name, count and read and write in Hindi. Mandla district had started a campaign, 'Niraksharta Se Azadi Abhiyan'

from Independence Day in 2020.

According to the survey of the year 2011, the literacy percentage in Mandla district was 68 present,

WHO names three variants of Monkeypox Virus

Recently the World Health Organization (WHO) has named variants of the Monkeypox Virus. This was done to avoid any cultural or social crime. The name of the

Monkeypox variant has been changed to 'Clades I, IIa and IIb'. The phylogeny and nomenclature of known and new Monkeypox Virus variants or clades were reviewed by Pox Virology experts and representatives from research institutions around the world.

The former Congo Basin (Central African) clade has been renamed to Clade One (I), while the former

West African clade has been renamed to Clade Two (II). Clade II also includes two subclasses.

Monkeypox

Monkeypox is a constant outbreak. The first case of this viral disease was reported in the United Kingdom in May 2022. The first case was personally reported with a travel link to Nigeria. Monkeypox disease is endemic to Nigeria. This is the first time the disease is

emerging outside Central and West Africa.

It was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 23 July 2022. Cases of

Monkeypox have been reported in more than 80 countries. In view of this, WHO has declared it a global health emergency. Confirmed cases have reached over 32,000. There have been 5 cases of Monkeypox in Delhi.

In this way he managed to get the presidency by defeating Raila Odinga. Ruto, 55, will succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has led the country for more than 10 years.

Soon after the presidential results were announced, protests broke out in parts of the country, mainly in western Kenya, which is Odinga's stronghold. In his victory speech, Ruto resolved to extend a hand of friendship to political rivals, to unite the country, and to advance shared development and prosperity.

The indigenously developed howitzer gun ATAG became part of a 21-Gun Salute at the Red Fort on

Independence Day on August 15, 2022. For the first time, indigenous howitzer gun, ATAG has becomenpart of 21 gun salute.

21 Gun Salute Tradition

Every year on August 15, after the Prime Minister hoists the Tiranga at the Red Fort, the military band plays the national anthem while the artillery regiment on the other hand gives a festive salute of 21

volley guns. A volley gun refers to a gun that has multiple single-shot barrels that fire rounds simultaneously in a volley fire. The tradition of gun salutes dates back to Western navies, where ships coming to and from ports used to fire guns in a specific manner to make it clear that they had no intention of war.

This tradition later came to be used as a way of paying respect at an official reception. It began to be used as a welcome honor to thebCrown, royals, military

commanders and heads of state.

India inherited this tradition from the British rulers. In British rule, 101 volley, 31 volley and 21 volley gun salutes were given according to rank and status.

Similarly, depending on the position and status a gun salute is given on Republic Day, Independence Day and other occasions as well as during the swearing-in ceremony of the President in India.

The tradition of the 21-gun salute given over the years is based on the British howitzers of the World War I era. Empty shells are fired in it. It is also known as the Ordnance Quick Fire 25 Pounder or simply '25 Pounder'.

Advance Todd Artillery Gun System (ATAGS)

ATAGS is an indigenous 155 mm x 52 caliber howitzer gun. Howitzer is a broad term for a class of long-

range guns. It has been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), whose Pune-based facility Armament Research and

Development Establishment (ARDE) is the nodal agency.

The ATAGS project was initiated in the year 2013 by DRDO to upgrade the old guns in the Indian Army to

replace it with artillery guns i.e. modern 155 mm guns.

Ranveer Singh and Shefali Shah received the Best Actor and Actress Award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2022

Recently the winners of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) Awards 2022 have been announced.

Held every year in Australia, this awards ceremony celebrates the Indian film industry by screening

some of India's most prominent and acclaimed films, TV shows and web series.

Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh, who gave his career best performance in the role of Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev in the film '83', has won the Best Actor of the Year award at the prestigious Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IIFM). Best Actress Award for Shefali Shah in this festival has been given.

FIFA suspends Football Federation of India for the

first time in 85 years

World football governing body FIFA has suspended the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to third party interference. This decision has been taken due to serious violation of FIFA rules. AIFF has faced suspension from FIFA for the first time in its 85-year history.

The suspension of the AIFF means that the Under-17 Women's Football World Cup tournament, which was scheduled to be held in the country from October 11 to

October 30, will no longer take place on schedule. Its hosting can also be snatched from India.Earlier this month, FIFA, the world football governing body, threatened to suspend the Football Federation of India for interference by a third party (Committee of Administrators/CoA). Along with this, FIFA also threatened to take away its rights to host the Women's Under-17 World Cup to be held in October.

The warning came just days after the Supreme Court directed the AIFF to hold elections. However, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has started the election process.

Elections are to be held on August 28.

The Supreme Court of India dissolved the AIFF in May 2022 and appointed a three-member committee to amend the AIFF's constitution to govern the sport and hold elections pending for 18 months.

FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation sent a team led by AFC Secretary General Windsor John to meet the stakeholders of Indian football for the AIFF to revise its statutes by the end of July and subsequently a roadmap was prepared to complete latest elections by 15 September.

The elections to the AIFF were to be held by December 2020 under the leadership of FIFA Council member

Praful Patel, but were delayed due to a deadlock over amendments to its constitution. Subsequently, on August 03, 2022, the Supreme Court had ordered immediate elections and said that the Elected Committee (CoA) would be an interim body for a period of three months.

On August 5, FIFA threatened to suspend the Football Federation of India (AIFF) for third-party interference. According to FIFA rules, member associations must be free from legal and political interference in their respective countries. FIFA has previously

suspended other national associations in similar cases.

UK becomes first country to approve Omicron vaccine

Britain has authorized the Covid-19 vaccine for the first time for the Omicron variant. With this the UK has become the first country to do so. Authorizing the vaccine would now pave the way for an autumn

booster campaign using Moderna two-strain shot.

Conditional authorization for this vaccine was granted by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MHRA). It was also the first authority worldwide which had approved the basic COVID-19 vaccine.

It is authorized for use among people over the age of 18. Now the.UK will focus its booster program

on people over the age of 50 and who are highly vulnerable to the development of COVID.

Omicron Variants

Omicron B.1.1.1.529 is a variant of SARS-CoV-2. The Network for Genomics Surveillance first reported this variant in South Africa in November 2021. The first

case was detected in Botswana and has now spread around the world to become a major variant in circulation.

In addition to the original BA.1 variant, several subvariants such as BA.2, BA.3, BA.4, and BA.5 have

emerged over time. To prevent serious illness and hospitalization caused by the BA.1 and BA.2

variants of Omicron, 3 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are provided. The BA.4 and BA.5 variants are more contagious than the other sub variants.
