Opera Mobile Beta Browser Unveiled for Android

Opera has kept its Up North Web conference promise by unveiling Opera mobile for the android smart phone. Norway’s Opera Software has declared on Tuesday that Opera Mobile browser will be available for Google’s Android platform from now onwards.

Opera Mini is a Java-based proxy browser that fetches web pages from the Opera’s server. In contrast, Opera Mobile is a standalone HTML browser that can request, render, and display Web content independently of Opera’s servers.
Opera said, the new browser offers faster page loading than its rivals. With its data compression technique it will be able to provide better connections even at a lower-speed or congested network.

The new version of Opera Mobile includes old features as well as some enticing new features. For example, in addition to Opera Turbo and Opera Link features of the older version, a completely new feature pinch-to-zoom is there.

This is not the first time that Android phone users will feel the presence of Opera on their mobile. Previously, Opera was there in the form of Opera Mini.

The Motorola Droid X is by far the most powerful Android phone we've tested to date, and our consensus is that it can't really get any better than this within the wide world of smartphones at the present moment. The Motorola Droid X for Verizon Wireless takes everything we loved about the original Droid and Droid 2, sheds the QWERTY keyboard, and pulls a Stretch Armstrong with the capacitive touch screen, giving gamers, movie junkies, and Internet addicts an expansive plain to swipe, tap, and pinch away on. Motorola also bulked up the camera, offering an 8-megapixel sensor with dual LED flash and 720p video. Does the image quality transcend the iPhone 4? You'll just have to read on to find out.

Design :

It's big and gawky. Don't expect the slim, refined chassis of a Samsung Captivate or beautiful architecture of an iPhone 4. The Motorola Droid X is tall and features a lip along its backside that leads to a protruding ledge where the 8-megapixel camera and dual LED flash dwell. On the plus side, the Droid X resides more along the rugged shores than most of the flimsy constructions we see in this genre of phone, like the Samsung Vibrant with its frail plastic back panel. The Droid X has a metal back hatch that contains the battery and 32GB capacity MicroSD card slot. The good news is that the Droid X comes with a 16GB Micro SD card and 8GB of internal memory. Unfortunately, the battery must be removed in order to access the MicroSD card.

Battery Life :

More accolades go to the Motorola Droid X when it came to talking. The phone has three microphones, which specialize in noise cancellation; leading to a great performance that matched the best smartphones we've seen this year. Stellar Verizon coverage helped too, and we never experienced dropped calls or static. Compared to the Sony Ericsson X10 we just reviewed, the Droid X trounced all over it when it came to coverage and voice quality. Battery life, on the other hand, fell more in line with the Samsung Galaxy S phones. It wasn't great, but it was enough to last most of the day. While the Motorola Droid 2 exhibited the best battery performance of its ilk, that phone might be an avenue you'd want to take if you are heavy on the battery-sucking applications.
Image/Video Quality :
Sadly, the Motorola Droid X did not have what it takes in the digital imaging department. With an 8-megapixel camera, we got a fairly sizable resolution for a smartphone, but not the quality to match. If you spend most of your time uploading your images to social networking sites, then the Motorola Droid X will be fine, thanks to its large resolution. However, the discerning photographer will not be pleased with the majority of images that are smeared with noise and lack sharpness. We also experienced discoloration in the form of blocky compression along contrasts and edges, so our experience was akin to the Motorola Droid 2's, aside from the fact that was had more resolution to play with. The camera interface was also not as user-friendly as the Samsung Galaxy S phones because there were a lot of steps to take in order to jump in and out of your favorite shooting mode.Simple things like Macro mode and Panorama took a while to select, and we found ourselves missing out on shots because of this. As far as the level of control the Droid X offered, that was one of its strengths, but the image quality just couldn't cut it.

Ever since the launch of Walkman and Cybershot branded Sony Ericsson phones, we have been hearing about the rumours of the PlayStation/PSP phone. But back in March we brought to you news that it might be launched this time for real. And yes the news is right as we now have the first real pictures of a Playstation phone.
The move is predictable as Sony Ericsson sales havent been all that good and the PSP Go wasn’t much of a hit.
The Playstation phone looks similar to the PSP Go and Vivaz/Vivaz Pro. It can be said as a cellular version of the PSP Go or a gaming version of the Vivaz Pro with more features. It has a full frontal touchscreen and slide out gaming keys.
The phone should be running the latest version of Google’s Android OS- 3.0 Gingerbread.

The capacitive touchscreen measures 3.6" with WVGA resolution and 16M colors. The CPU is barely faster than the one in the Liquid E - 800MHz vs. 768MHz.

The RAM inside the Liquid Metal is 512MB - same as the high-end Acer Stream (and not 384MB as it said in the review). Anyway, the 5MP camera on the Liquid Metal features auto-focus, LED-flash along with face and smile detection.
It can record video in 720p resolution - an equal to the Stream's camera. Other specs include fast 3G with HSPA, Wi-Fi b/g/n with UPnP and Bluetooth 2.1. Dolby Mobile and XviD support boost the multimedia features.
Android 2.2 Eclair enables Flash 10.1 on the Acer Liquid Metal and Wi-Fi tethering too. There's Facebook and Twitter integration and Documents To Go preinstalled.
Anyway, you can read one of the first reviews of the Acer Liquid Metal here. If you can read Russian or at least Google Translated Russian. Keep in mind it may not be 100% accurate - like the RAM thing.

The Galaxy 3/Apollo is at the low end of Samsung’s Android offerings and it inevitably makes some compromises. But they do at least provide the full smartphone experience with Android 2.1 Eclair and TouchWiz 3.0 running on top of a 667MHz CPU with 256MB RAM.

BLACKBERRY STYLE 9670:Details & Features

The BlackBerry Style 9760 is a nice looking, though not that thin, clamshell coming in two colors – Steel Grey for the boys and Royal Purple for the gals. On the front there is a small but handy touchscreen and on the back – a 5MP autofocus camera with VGA video recording.

Sprint has told us pricing and some basic specs on the BlackBerry Style 9670, but how about some more solid details direct from the horse’s mouth. RIM has put up the smartphone’s product page, confirming that the clamshell has EVDO Rev.A 3G, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, as well as a 5-megapixel camera with continuous auto-focus, a flash image stabilization and VGA 640 x 480 video recording.

Meanwhile onboard storage consists of 512MB of built-in memory and a bundled 8GB microSD card. Ports include a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB, and the 1,150mAh battery is user-removeable. RIM reckon it’s good for up to 4.5hrs talktime, up to 10.5 days standby or up to 14hrs music playback.

It’s not the first time we get to meet the QWERTY-fied fatty (which you might know as Bold 9670) but today is the day when all questions will be answered. The thing is powered by a 624MHz processor and runs the recently unveiled BlackBerry OS 6.

The Style 9670 has a full QWERTY keyboard The CDMA-compatible Style also features support for 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and comes with a built-in GPS receiver on board.

Sprint has announced that the BlackBerry Style 9670 will drop on October 31, priced at $99.99 following a $100 mail-in rebate. RIM’s latest clamshell, the Style 9670 has both internal and external displays together with a full QWERTY keyboard on the inside.

Phone is hitting the Sprint stores across the US on October 31st.

Meet the Palm Pre 2. This time officially. The thing showed up a few days back but now it's as official as it gets. And it's due this Friday. Along with some great new features, the Palm Pre 2 will arrive with the brand new webOS 2.0.
There aren't that many improvements brought by the Pre 2 but the ones listed may as well be enough to make upgrading worthwhile (if you happen to be a Pre or Pre Plus owner). The plastic screen is now gone - it's been replaced by a durable glass one. Unfortunately, contrary to rumors, the screen size and resolution remained untouched - 3.1 inches and HVGA (320 x 480 pixels), respectively.
While the amount of built-in RAM and storage (512MB RAM and 16GB of non-upgradeable storage) are the same again, the processor got way faster (as expected). The new Palm Pre 2 has a zippy 1GHz CPU.

The sharp edges are gone as well and so is the 3MP snapper. You get a 5-megapixel one instead. Unfortunately, as before, there is no autofocus.
As for the HP webOS 2.0, it brings a handful of improvements (including even better multi-tasking, Just Type with Quick Actions, etc.) but the greatest thing about it is that Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Beta is finally here allowing you to watch videos, play games and more while web browsing.
The Palm Pre 2 will run the webOS 2.0 from day one while the older webOS-driven devices will get an update at some point in the near future.
The GSM version of the all new Palm Pre 2 is said to first hit the SFR stores in France on Friday and tad later its CDMA-compatible twin should become available at the Verizon Wireless stores across the US. There is no word on the Palm Pre 2 pricing yet.

The HTC Desire HD has been featured in numerous pre-release articles but it's only now that you are finally able to go and actually buy it. It's just you won't have to go anywhere as it's available in the online UK stores for several carriers, as well as a SIM-free version, too.
The beefy droid topped performance benchmarks, as it should - it has more RAM than some netbooks (768MB), and it's a champ at booting too. The Desire HD also features the latest Sense UI with HTCSense.com integration.
The site uSwitch has the HTC Desire HD on sale with a handy configurator to choose your plan (carrier, cost, minutes, texts, mobile Internet, etc.), starting from free. They have it SIM-free as well - it will set you back 465 pounds (that works out to 530 euro).
Expansys offer the Desire HD as well - 499 pounds (570 euro) or on a two-year Vodafone plan for free (35 pounds a month). On some other sites like Play.com, the HTC Desire HD is still on preorder but is expected to go on sale next Monday (October 25).
