Spying on The New Baby Twins

Right outside our dining room is a huge old orchid tree. It is filled with hummingbirds. I was peaking at them yesterday morning and saw a nest! At first it seemed empty but then I saw movement. And then two tiny beaks rose out. I told Hon and he has been taking photos all weekend.

Meet Max

One of these cuties is our new black lab Max. She was born on St. Patrick's day.

I honestly thought I would never get another dog after losing Mabel. No dog could replace my girl, but when my niece announced her lab was having pups, I took the bait.

We let Lovebug name her and he had no trouble coming up with: Maxandruby. "But we'll call her Max", he said. Works for us.

We'll be picking her up in Pagosa Springs, CO Memorial Day weekend.

Sneak Peak

We are working hard to make our new frame locket necklaces available in time for Mother's Day. Here is a sneak peak of what's to come in the next couple of weeks.
This is the larger locket. It can be inscribed on both sides, and the photo slips into a slot on the top. One locket frame necklace has our signature baby hands and feet, and the other is without.

Black Bean Brownies - YUM!

A fantastic way to have your "cake" and fiber and protein too! You absolutely cannot taste the black beans.

You will need a box of brownie mix, a can of black beans, non stick spray and a baking pan.

You will also need a helper!

Open the can of beans. Drain, rinse put them back in the can and fill with water.

Pour beans in a food processor and blend until smooth.

Pour blended beans into the brownie mix. No need to add anything else (ie. egg, oil).

Stir until moistened.

Pour the batter in a baking pan sprayed with non stick spray, and put in heated oven.

Bake according to instructions on the box.

Proud of his bloody nose

Lovebug is a master at knowing exactly when I'm distracted. We live in a big house with all hard wood and lots of nooks and crannies to get into.

Me: Lovebug, I'm going to take a shower; what are the rules?
Lovebug: No going upstairs, no going outside.
Me: Ok, I'll be right back.
Lovebug: Mama, you didn't ask....
Me: What's going to happen if you break the rules?
Lovebug: You're going to give me a time out.
Me: Right - be good! Yes Mama!
Lovebug: Yes Mama.

I haven't come up with rules for when I go fetch the mail, use the toilet, make a meal or anything that requires me to leave the room Lovebug is in. It seems during those moments he is the naughtiest. Today was no exception.

As I flushed the toilet this morning, I heard a loud thud and then crying. It was a scared cry, rather than a hurt cry, so as I approached the scene, I yelled: What did you do???? But as soon as i saw the blood dripping down his nose covering his mouth and chin my tone and demeanor changed. I scooped him up, cooing him while carrying him into the bathroom. I didn't mention the bloody nose because I didn't want to upset him more. The culprit: his radio flyer toppled over on it's side in the dining room. Probably happened during one of his 25mph laps around the house, but I digress.

After I wiped his nose and discretely threw the tissue away, I carried him downstairs in search of his fuzzie.

As he lay with his fuzzie immersed in Handy Mandy, he touched his nose which left traces of blood on his finger. He couldn't have been more thrilled.

Lovebug: Mama!!!! I have a bloody nose! Just like Papa!!

Organic Preemie Baby

Anyone who has had a preemie knows that even the newborn size in clothes is ginormous on a 1 lb infant. JULIAN & Co. hearts the new adorable collection of organic preemie baby clothes by Lapsaky at Nature's Baby Blankets.

Having a baby in the NICU means cords galore. These folks knew what they were doing when they designed the Preemie Kimono Gown. Definitely my favorite. If this line was around when Lovebug was born, I would have bought ten each of everything they make.

i've started a month long treatment of topical fuorouracil. it's not pretty and very uncomfortable to say the least. on top of that, i've had a horrible cold/cough for a week. yesterday hon offered to get lovebug ready and take him to preschool.
i was thrilled beyond belief to be able to stay in bed.
hon: lovebug, do you want to take a shower or take a bath?
lovebug: shower
hon: ok, eat the rest of your breakfast
lovebug: i'll eat it in the car (a true american)
water in the shower turns on.
hon: get in
lovebug: i don't want to take a shower, i want to take a bath
hon fills up the bath tub and after much coercing, lovebug is finally in the bath
lovebug: i don't want to wash my hair
hon peaking in our bedroom: does he have to wash his hair? i nod
i hear a couple of complaints: "mama uses that"(i'm certain he is pointing to the puff).
90 seconds and that included hair washing, lovebug is out and walking around in a towel.
after many orders from hon to "get dressed", he is finally dressed.
tony heads into our bathroom for the brush.
lovebug protests in anticipation: no, no i have my own brush. i brush my own hair.
all is finally quiet in our wing and i hear them rustling upstairs.
i become kinda sad thinking lovebug doesn't even seem phased that i didn't make his breakfast, get him ready for school - that i'm not the one taking him.
feeling antsy, i decide to get up - coffee is calling me.
as i head upstairs i see my lovebug in a beyond wrinkled shirt, his hair - probably with soap still in it - dripping wet and half combed charging at me....
lovebug: i forgot to kiss you goodbye
he kisses me with strict instructions not to wipe it off and out the door they go.
hon sends me a text a few hours later: julian cried when he dropped him off
apparently it did phase him

Happy New Year! We have some new pieces in the works, I'm very excited about, so stay tuned. But I digress...

Hon surprised me a month ago by loading the 6 CD changer - in my car - entirely with Christmas music. I didn't have a chance to explore all of the cd's because Lovebug was stuck on CD number one which was a Christmas album by Boney M. Each car trip with Lovebug came with strict instructions, "Number 4 Mama", and, "Louder please". Number 4? "Jingle Bells".

However during errands Friday afternoon, and all alone, I bravely pushed CD number six, A Midwinter Night's Dream by Lorreena McKennitt.

The holiday collection features an array of the artist's wide musical influences, ranging from Celtic to classical to Middle Eastern. Her eclecticism shines through in the mysticism of “The Holly and the Ivy,” the exotic Eastern arrangements of “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,” the Latin-sung “Emmanuel” and the North French/African rendering of “Noël Nouvelet!,” sung in Old French.

My mundane tasks turned pleasant ride, ended with song number seven, God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen.

Saturday Morning, Lovebug and I set out to the mall to buy Hon an anniversary gift (11 years). As my key turned the engine on, song number eight began: Snow. I was so swept away by the beautiful sounds that three fourths of the way through the song, I almost didn't hear, "Mama, turn it off". I looked in my rear view mirror to see Lovebug's eyes welled up with tears, and his chin quivering. He met my eyes, and pleaded, "Mama, please turn it off".

On my way to get my hair cut this morning, I tried to continue the song, but the image of Julian's face immediately flooded my thoughts. How could a song about snow evoke such a response. I always knew I had an old soul for a child, and when at 14 months he sobbed to Barney's "I Love You", I chalked it up to my smart baby's thumbs down to the purple dinosaur.

A few months ago I got an email from a fashion editor at Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine. She requested a high resolution photo of our Cuff Links, for a possible feature in "an upcoming issue". I cringed because on my long "to do" list is to re shoot the jewelry.

She didn't say what issue, but as soon as December 1st hit we became flooded with cuff link orders. I raced to borders and found us on page 82 - the picture actually looks great.

I feel so grateful for features like this one. We've been charmed many times in the press.

When it rains, it pours....literally!

This morning - the fiasco of fiascos!

Taking Lovebug to nursery school, it is pouring. The I15 North ramp is packed - a complete parking lot - so rather than merge onto 15N I get off and drive the back roads for 10 miles and then get onto I8 East. Well that takes longer than normal - obviously - and by the time I exit off the freeway to the school, Lovebug has to pee; bad!

He doesn't make it and is sobbing he doesn't want to go in with wet pants.
Even though it is 9:15 (school starts at 8) every parent is there visiting. There was NO parking!

I get completely soaked carrying Lovebug into the school so he could finish emptying his bladder. Ms. Felisa informs me he doesn't have a change of clothes which I already know because I hadn't replenished from the last accident. L-bug is VERY upset and so I told Ms. Trudy I would be back; we're going to Target.

I suddenly remember there is a Walmart on Los Coaches but have no idea how to get there. Instead, we drive to Parkway Plaza - a mall 10 miles away.

I'm hopeful there will be a handicap spot (I have Tracy's car sign) at the Walmart, but NO! We parked FAR away and in a 12" puddle. If I wasn't soaked before, I am completely soaked now. I run the mile carrying Lovebug to Walmart and it's a mraaaa 2 story one - inconveniently the toddler wear is on the 2nd floor. Up we go, and of course Lovebug decides to be selective about what I buy. 90 seconds later we have 2 pair of 4.99 jeans and a package of Diego underwear. 15 minutes later we are back at the school. Lovebug couldn't be happier.

1. he has his yellow boots on
2. he has his yellow raincoat on
3. he has brand new Diego underwear on
4. the jeans I bought (both pair) light up. Yup, they light up.

Less stressful with the same outfit later at the pond downtown....

Me: He's just crying Love. He's a baby and sometimes babies cry.

Me: He's just crying.
I try to turn the page. Again.

Lovebug: He's crying because he wants his bottle. His mama took his bottle away even though the doctor said it was ok.

We are officially in the midst of "the holidays". I swear Lovebug must have read a how-to book on Halloween. He trick-or-treated like any pro I've ever seen.
