Tips for parents of children with learning disabilities

Learn about learning disabilities. The more you know, the more you can help yourself and your child. See the list of resources and organizations at the end of this article.

Praise your child when he or she does well. Children with learning disabilities are often very good at a variety of things. Find out what your child really enjoys doing, such as dancing, playing soccer, or working with computers. Give your child plenty of opportunities to pursue his or her strengths and talents.
Find out the ways your child learns best. Does he or she learn by hands-on practice, looking, or listening? Help your child learn through his or her areas of strength.
Let your child help with household chores. These can build self-confidence and concrete skills. Keep instructions simple, break down tasks into smaller steps, and reward your child's efforts with praise.
Make homework a priority. Read more about how to help your child be a success at homework. (See resource list at the end.)
Pay attention to your child's mental health (and your own!). Be open to counseling, which can help your child deal with frustration, feel better about himself or herself, and learn more about social skills.
Talk to other parents whose children have learning disabilities.Parents can share practical advice and emotional support. Call NICHCY (1.800.695.0285) and ask how to find parent groups near you. Also let us put you in touch with the parent training and information (PTI) center in your state.
Meet with school personnel and help develop an educational plan to address your child's needs. Plan what accommodations your child needs, and don't forget to talk about assistive technology!
Establish a positive working relationship with your child's teacher. Through regular communication, exchange information about your child's progress at home and at school.

How to have good learn,

Learning styles are various approaches or ways of learning.They involve educating methods, particular to an individual, that are presumed to allow that individual to learn best. Most people prefer an identifiable method of interacting with, taking in, and processing stimuli or information. Based on this concept, the idea of individualized "learning styles" originated in the 1970s, and acquired "enormous popularity".

Proponents say that teachers should assess the learning styles of their students and adapt their classroom methods to best fit each student's learning style, which is called the 'meshing hypothesis.

The alleged basis and efficacy for these proposals are extensively criticized. Although children and adults express personal preferences, there is no evidence that identifying a student's learning style produces better outcomes, and there is significant evidence that the widespread "meshing hypothesis" (that a student will learn best if taught in a method deemed appropriate for the student's learning style) is invalid. Well-designed studies "flatly contradict the popular meshing hypothesis".

Two group of dinosaur,

Dinosaurs are divided into two main groups, according to their hip bones. Some had hip arranged like a lizard's and others had hips arranged like a bird's.

Lizard like
This group includes two legged meat eaters such as Tyrannosaurus rex as well as plant eating sauropods like Diplodocus.

Bird bones
All bird hipped dinosaurs were plant eaters. Some of the most familiar faces of the dinosaur world are found in the group!

Dinosaur Facts
Strangely, experts think that todays birds evolved from lizard hipped dinosaurs!
To date over 300 species of dinosaur have been found and named. Every few months more are discoved.

What is skeletons,

A skeletons tells a story. Teeth or bony beaks give information about what dinosaurs probably ate. Features such a horns show how they defended themselves. Small braincases tell us which dinosaurs had small brain.

Spiky plant eater
A Late Jurassic dinosaur, Stegosaurus was probably about 3m (9ft) high. It had bony plates along its back. Its spiky tail was flexible and most likely used for defence.

Small sprinter
A fossilized skeleton shows that Coelophysis had long legs for its small size. It was 3m (9ft) long and could run fast.

Massive meat eater
Meat eaters like Tyrannosaurus rex had massive jaws. They could open these extra wide to swallow large mouthfuls of fresh.

Jurassic giant
The longest of all dinosaurs, sauropods like Diplodocus had small brains! Despite its length, Diplodocus weighed no more than two large elephants.

Bird like dinosaur
A fossilized skeleton of Struthiomimus shows that it had features in common with todays ostrich. These include a small head with a narrow beak, a long neck, and powerful hind limbs.

Horned head
The Late Cretaceous Triceratops was haunted by Tyrannosaurus rex. It probably used its horns to defend itself. A plant eater it had a tough, toothless beak.

The age of the dinosaurs is known as the Mesozoic era. This stretched from 248 to 65 million years ago. It divides into three separate time spans: the triassic, the jurassic, and the cretaceous.

Triassic World
At the start of the Mesozoic era, the continents were joined together into one supercontinent Pangaea. This was surrounded by a massive ocean called Panthalassa.
Small beginnings- The Triassic world saw the first small dinosaurs, meat eating Herreasaurus walked on its hind legs.

Jurassic World
Over millions of years Pangaea split into two continents, Gondwana and Laurasia. As these drifted apart different groups of dinosaurs evolved on each continent.
Land of the giants-Late in the Jurassic period giant sauropods roamed in huge conifer forests while Stegosaurus ate low growing plants. Ichythyosaurs and other reptiles swam in the seas.

Cretaceous World
The continents continued to drift apart and Earth began to look like it does today. The vast mountain ranges of the andes and the Rockies were formed.
Dinosaur heyday-The great variety of Cretaceous dinosaurs included horned plant eaters like Pentacerarops and huge meat eaters such as Tyrannosaurus rex.
