He had sworn into power defining the moment, ‘we the people are swearing in’, and relinquished the post making the remark ‘I am resigning from the post Chief Minister. Reading between the ‘We’ to ‘I’ will define the Aam Aadmi (common man) in India.

The marriage between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was the joining of two bodies having completely different ideologies. It may be the irony of time that they two had failed the test of love and trust on the Valentine’s Day. As like every shattered lover, Arvind Kejriwal, also weaved a story of betrayal and extra marital affair to clear his stand on the break up.

The politics and hopes of the people in the largest democratic country in the world should be here after defined before and after the 49 days long ‘Kejriwalism’ in the Delhi Assembly. In this juncture, a journey through the 'living together' relationship of Congress-AAP can predict the future of common man in the country. They were a couple who had taken separate destinations for 'their' honeymoon. It was evident from the ‘first night’ that the relationship would be in trouble when AAP questions the chastity of its partner.

The relationship has become more soured when AAP questioned the secret affair between Congress and Mukesh Ambani. It was like doubting the virginity of a nymphomaniac bride, that too, even after one and half months of marriage. On Valentine’s Day, the bride has ended the 49 days long relationship proving that she still has an insatiable appetite for the other person.

Kejriwalism has proved that the base form of every political party is common even though they reflect different ideologies. Kejriwal succeeded in entrenching his views on the minds of millions who had seen a savior on him through his crusades against corruption. The people had seen a halo around his head which was crookedly befitted with marketing techniques.

All the political parties in India had a common DNA until they tasted the pleasures of power. The efforts to staying in power had forced the political parties to shed their ideologies. One thing is sure that AAP succeeded in creating an image at least among their sympathizers that they are not greedy for power. However, a meticulous study on the character and actions of Arvind Kejriwal would help one to decrypt the political gambling in the decision of resigning the Chief Minister post.

Kejriwal anticipates that the lost in the crusade for an anti-corruption bill would benefit him in the future elections. The image of both BJP and Congress started to decay through the action of Kejriwal and he knows how to exploit the situation to his personal benefit. He would make a good bio fertilizer out of the decayed bodies of Congress and BJP to fecundate the seeds of AAP in the coming elections. But Kejriwal should keep one thing in mind that the common man has one more thing in common that is common sense.

Let This Spirit Remain Not Out Forever

India has celebrated yet another Independence Day on August 15 heralding its economic and military advantages. It is the apt time to take a critical analyse on the freedom enjoying by the citizens in the world’s largest democracy. The Indian citizenship behoves every individual to introspect themselves by asking the question whether they are really enjoying the freedom even after entering the 67^th year since Independence.

The introspection will deliver an entirely different answers based on the cast, religion, gender, region, politics, economic stability etc of the individual. The differences in answers will decipher the shocking fact that a majority are still living in repression similar to the pre Independence era. The powerful are having all the lavishness which enjoyed by the people espoused to the British Raj and powerless are facing the same neglect and agony inured by the ordinary Indians during the British rule.

Freedom of speech, freedom of expression, right to the living land, right to follow religious believes, right to education, right to marry for ones choice everything have been questioned by the government or the powerful persons which controlling the government. Majority of the Indians are still living in slavery depriving of all the rights, but, the only change is that they are now owned by the fellow citizens. The government has become the loyal protégé of the industrialist and the religious leaders.

The tactics which the British government had adopted to ensure power are still the major silent propaganda of the political parties in the country. The country has ripped apart based on the vote bank politics depends on the citizen’s cast, region, financial stability etc. The much acclaimed slogan, unity in diversity, has almost disappeared. Slogans of hate in the name of cast, culture, language, gender etc are reverberating instead of unity.

The federal system is also distancing away from the central government. The central has to make decision based on the interest of different states instead of having a common platform on development policies. Selfishness and nepotism replaced the cooperation and healthy competitions among the states.

The division is more alarming as the concept of India subsidizing over the concept of Gujarati, Bengali, Marathi etc. The ideology, being an Indian first, is somewhat unadoptable in most of the parts of the country to have a political influence. The regional parties and their propaganda based on regional issues are depreciated the general issues and development mottoes of the country. The national parties like Congress and BJP are even forced to bow their heads to the political pressure of regional parties and communal leaders. But, at the same time, the parties are cleverly neglecting the outcry of the North-Eastern states which does not have the political clout to influence the ruling government. The political alliance at the time of general elections has also confined on regional issues rather than highlighting the national issues due to the polarization of power.

If there was East India Company at the time of British dynasty, it is the turn of the powerful industrialist in the post Independence era to govern and rule the people from behind the curtain. The government has become a rubber stamp when it comes to the matters of development and addressing the poor in the country. The voices from the Delhi mandarins are underlying the shocking fact through their imprudent comments about the definition of ‘poor’ or the policies taken on the matters affecting large evacuation.

Niyamgiri Hills in Orissa is the most known example of how the powerful joining hands with the government to uproot the inhabitants from their living area. The situation is worse than what was occurred during the British Raj. The Dongria Kondh tribes living in the Niyamgiri Hills are facing a threat of evacuation for a mining project from the area which they claim as their adytum. The government remains as a silent observer rather than an active conciliator in such cases.

The aberration from the most circulated and exaggerated slogan, Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan (hail the soldier and hail the farmer), is evident from the favours given to the industrialists and negligence facing by the farmers and soldiers in the country. The slogan has to be rewritten by hailing industrialists and religious leaders instead of our ‘Kisans’ and ‘Jawans’. It is not late to redeem ourselves from all these bondage and simultaneously free the country from its own fiefdoms. For that, we must start to think, 'country first’, instead of all other emotions.

Not Enough to Wipe Out the Darkness

In a rude observation of past events it is evident that only politicians and candle vendors are benefited with the anti-rape protests which witnessed by the capital of India, Delhi, recently. One thing is clear now that the candle light vigils and mass protests are not enough to change the fate of the women in India.

The mandarins in Delhi have surprised why the cases of rape is repeating even after they have introduced rigorous law against sexual abuse. One thing is sure from such reactions that the politicians are moved far away from the ordinary people. They have failed to understand the society and evaluate and find solutions after reading the mind of the society like what politicians of the past did.

It will be interesting to find out what might they think about the criminals; the people who read the copies of new sexual abuse law and refrain from committing crime thinking about the consequences? Ironically, the criminals might not worry about the aftermaths while comparing the sexual and emotional pleasure the crime providing them. Introduction of strict laws only help to prevent the crime to a certain limit. Here we need to change the mind set of the people, unfortunately it is not an easy task in country which host over 1.22 billion citizens.

The government must accept the fact that law making will never bring down crimes in a society and it is only just one step to wipe out such heinous act. It may prevent a person from committing a crime few times but the tendency remains inside him/her and it may burst out at any time. So it is the time to think about how to prevent a person from developing such heinous thoughts inside him and at the same time how to stop such persons from committing crime.

The second point is comparatively more practical and easy to implement. Criminologists have characterised the behaviour of perverts who were later involved in rape cases. If we check the history of such criminals, one thing will be clear that they all are recidivist to an extent. It is easy for the police personnel to keep an eye on such persons and save the society from such crimes if they have a proper data bank about such criminals. Unfortunately the country still needs to act from the root to prevent such crimes.

In foreign countries, the government has facility to observe such people and warn the society. They are using GPS tracking device, warning boards and publish photos of such persons in public places to save the people from such criminals. Here we may face the ire of human rights activist if someone tries to implement such a step. But we need such extreme steps to save the women in the country.

The politicians have to give courage to the women to register every incident of sexual abuse with the police even if it is from the close relatives. The country has to prepare a data bank of such criminals and warn the people from refrain from such peoples and inform the police if they have found them in some mysterious situation.

The change should begin from the family. Most recidivists are committed their first crime in the family itself but it would always go unreported. According to a study in England, around 75 to 95% percentages of cases of sexual assault are never reported to the police. We have to light the candles of vigil in our family first instead of wasting our time in the street. The women should show the courage to speak out if they found a pervert in her home or neighbourhood. It will save many women and simultaneously the burden of a country known for its rape victims.

In India cricket and diplomacy are conjugated twins which are having the same complicated DNA traces. Even ‘Mother India’ sometimes fails to differentiate two of them and nobody will be astonished if India form a cricket team in each embassy to polish the relationship and of course for worsening it too. India may be the only country in the world which still believes it can sort out all the diplomatic issues in a 22 yard, the distance between the wickets in both ends of a cricket pitch.

The numb citizens of the country have the insignia of ball boys in this diplomatic stupidity. The politicians and the media indoctrinated them by depicting cricket, sometimes other games too, as the peaceful weapon to shun the arch rival Pakistan. But we have added one more neighbor to this list recently. Cricket diplomacy is not a term used only with Pakistan now in India. Tamilnadu, the southern state of India, Chief Minister Jayalalitha has given this privilege to another neighbor country Sri Lanka. The Lankan players have ostracized from taking part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches will be played at Chennai, the capital of Tamilnadu.

The country should excogitate what kind of satisfaction it gets by barring players from a particular country playing in a tournament which has no official connection with the government over a diplomatic issue. IPL is a tournament played between clubs which owned by different individuals or business groups. As a citizen of this country, I wonder whether it is the diplomatic maturity we have even after 65 years since we got independence.

It is evident from the very first thought that the decision taken by Jayalalitha is a politically instigated one. The politicians in the country have blindfolded the nation by mixing up patriotism in the most popular game in the country, Cricket. They are hiding their weaknesses sometimes and moving away from their obligations other times with this cricket diplomacy.

India must understand the issue is not between the country and the Sri Lankan cricket team and there will not be a solution by barring the Lankan players. One can argue that the country can express their concerns through such kind of acts. But what if we only express our concerns through ending the sports relations without taking any other diplomatic steps?

India is facing a famine in taking the diplomatic decisions. The recent issue with Italy over two marines who are facing trial in a murder case, the continuing issues with Pakistan and in the Sri Lankan issue, we lack a proper diplomatic intervention. The politicians have succeeded in diverging the media and public from the core issue by properly using the patriotic feelings mixed in the game of cricket.

The country needs a surgery to separate the conjoined twins, cricket and diplomacy. The politicians are so far batted on a sporting wicket in diplomatic issues where the bowlers (critics) failed to benefit from the pitch. The country must learn to give replies in diplomatic lines in such issues rather than inviting the other country for a cricket match or 'threatening' them by barring their players from playing in India. We should understand that Mahendra Sing Dhoni is not our Prime Minister and cricket is not our nation, it is just a game.

Defining the condition of a farm which is deprived of fertilizers and water cannot be a Herculean task. India is such kind of a farm with plenty of trees but lacking fertilizers and water to produce delicious fruits. So, who should blame for the low quality mangoes in the country?

The taxonomy, mango people, by Robert Vadra, the first son-in-law of the country, is a product of maladroit politicians who stripped off all the qualities of the people of the country by denying an atmosphere to nourish. Mr Damad (son-in-law) should take some lessons either from his mother-in-law or some of the senior cadres from her party about the political history which produced unripened mangoes.

He should also ask the mango people what the patriarchal rulers from his family offered to the common citizens. There is no doubt that he would get the answer why we are living still in a banana republic.

It’s the time to debate where we lost the billions of rupees allocated for the upliftment of ordinary and backward citizens since from the time of Independence. The country which scripted a rag to riches story in just four years for Mr Damad failed to write at least a one decent-meal per day story for the millions of poor even after a long 65 years since Independence. The answer for this dilemma will prove how we still have fellow citizens categorised as cattle class or mango people.

The inquiry just into the doubtful accumulation of wealth by Rober Vadra alone will not prove anything. Each and every mandarin ruled us from Delhi shares the blame of banana republic. Equal distribution of public wealth still remains as a distant dream in the country.

Recent plans to control digital world authorises one thing; The digital world can upset the Government; the result, the greatest democracy in the world is on an urge to curb online materials. The country which hails freedom of expression as its mascot has decided not to tolerate it anymore. They have fielded many reasons to validate their decision, but nothing could satisfy netizens who believe social websites are the only available platform for free speech and unbiased analysis of political courses.
A series of severe criticisms, spread through the online media, regarding the policies implemented by UPA, prompted them to step into such an aggressive action. However, the Government continues to deny this reason, but the truth is obvious. In a democratic country the people has the right to criticise the Government. That is to seal the possible ways through which their drawbacks could reach the masses.

There are 25 crore facebook users in India, majority of them are educated youngsters with clear and unbiased political views. Their ideologies and unbiased observations create headaches to mandarins in Delhi who continuously succeeding in making controversies. It is impossible to silence them, so they took the other route, i.e. to uproot their platform.
The Government wishes to skirt all the criticisms, though, the next step would be tighten their clutch over the media. There were some statements by officials and politicians on controlling news media. There would be no change between a democracy and an autocracy if media censorship implemented to protect Government interests.
Every country has learned something to fear from the Arab spring which toppled major dictators in African-Arab countries. However, in a democratic country, a regime change without electoral process is still a distant dream, but even in this circumstance, the Government is upset with the protest of Anna Hazare and the likes of Baba Ramdev. It is a bane Manmohan Singh Government invited through disappointed governance and being away from the ordinary people.

There is one more thing. Why nobody is willing to control the language used by politicians to abuse their rivals? Why not the statements and actions used in Parliament to attack each other came under defamation? Are there different rules for the same offense which appear in digital world and in person? Nowadays, talking about Kashmir is becoming the bravest act we can do inside India. Why are we reluctant to accept any comments about Kashmir? Being one of the most disputed land in the world, people around the globe have different opinions in relation with Kashmir. Instead of treating it as freedom of expression, the government is showing wrath by charging sedition against them. Kashmir, forced to confine their freedom to the boundary, drawn by some infamous laws, are always raising their voice of protest. But the issue is far from the lime light. Kashmir and North East, have never received the privileges which the rest of India are enjoying. They might have felt the spirit when Indian cricket team won some tournament, but certainly not on Independence Day or Republic day. It has been decades since they are in such imbroglio; no government has brought any permanent plan to resolve the issues.

Suppressing the voices of discomfort has never been a perfect solution to solve such controversial disputes in a democratic country. But the government tries to distract people’s attention by muting the echoes of individual opinions. Government must understand one thing, the bullets which riddled innocent civilians by security forces had been brought by the tax paid by the same individuals. In other way, all the tax payers in India have their share for killing the fellow citizens in Kashmir and North East. So every Indian have the responsibility to bring an end to the imbroglio.

Plebiscite in Kashmir is not a recently introduced solution; it has been there since the partition. UN had passed several resolutions to solve the Kashmir issue through people’s verdict. India supported it in the beginning, but deviated from it in 1950. Kashmir is a sovereign part of India; we do not need any "proven proof" to agree that. It is rest of the world which is demanding plebiscite as an evidence to agree with India's stand. We have to satisfy the demand, plebiscite is not the only available solution to it, but we have to find out some other methods to solve the Kashmir dispute. If we fail to reach an agreement to solve the Kashmir issue in near future, it will affect our bid to a permanent seat in UN Security Council and our position in global map as an emerging super power.

The fact is that after governing Kashmir for 64 long years our politicians are not confident that the plebiscite will favor

. Rather than punishing the citizens who asks for a better Kashmir, government should scrutinize what went wrong in Kashmir. when India plans to resume peace talks with Pakistan, it is doubtful that which people’s peace India is caring. The 48 page report titled ‘half widow half wife” by the association of parent’s of disappeared person’s, deals with the relatives of missing persons in Kashmir, especially the wives of such persons. The ‘half widows’, whose husbands have disappeared and have not been yet declared deceased, live in pathetic situation in a socially patriarchal society like Kashmir. Government has not been taken any steps to resolve the perpetual stress and uncertainty in the families of ‘disappeared’ persons. Government is reluctant to involve indicating the men disappeared might be joined in some extremist groups in Pakistan, but no proof to authenticate that. It is ridiculous for a country like India, where families of infamous gangsters, extremists and even the most corrupted politicians enjoy all kinds of Government beneficiaries. When will we address internal problems before going for a solution to cross border tensions?

If someone asks me what is the latest impact of global warming; my answer would be the portfolio change of Jairam Ramesh, the Indian minister for Environment and Forest. It is an impact of heat increase, in environment, experts call it climate change caused by deforestation, carbon emission etc, in Indian politics I will christen it parliamentary warming cause by corporate pressure, a turbulent government etc. Anyway a minister is elevated to infamy. There may be arguments, positively and negatively, about the promotion given to Jairam Rames. But rather hanging on there, it is time to think further. Do we considering environment with the all the importance it needed? No, let me explain it.

First of all we do not have a firm stand on the environmental issues affecting across the world. We are watching and lamenting about the melting of Himalayan glaciers and the rivers which have converted into sand beds. Our cities have become polluted; rivers too, but the portfolio, which should consider it, is handling by a junior minister in rank. European powers like U.K. and France governing this ministry with the senior ministers in the cabinet and it further divides into sub categories like, climate change, global warming etc, where we wrapped up all these under a single ministry. In, France the number two in cabinet is in charge of Environment ministry. The U.S. government also giving much important to this department, an administrator with a cabinet rank heading

environmental protection agency. So why we are not yet thinking about giving more importance to the environment we live?

Back to the cabinet reshuffle, a minister who has shown teeth in environment issues has been shifted from there. If the Government really wished to promote him, why did they upgrade environment and forestry to a department under cabinet minister ship? It was the best option, if the Government really wished Jairam to be rewarded. Even the Prime Minister had not been supportive in most of the environmental issues Jairam upheld. Now the forest and land is open for those who targeting it. The new minister’s stand is crucial in so many pending requests for environmental clearance in mining and ecologically fragile land issues. In the opposite side, the bidders are big corporate powers. Are we heading for another scam? Above all, Jairam Rames was the Indian icon world recognized for his endeavors in nature protection. International media appreciated his zealous efforts to keep the forest and environment safe from encroachers even if he sometimes compromised to the pressures from top. Jayanthi Natarajan should strive hard to maintain the ministry par with the expectation of nature lovers across the globe. Remember the world is watching what we are going to do with the mining projects in Orissa and some other states.

Have you ever stumbled up on the question; 'will I get something to eat tomorrow", i am sure no one in the online fraternity never faced such a question in life, but this question is haunting half the population of India, at the same time almost half the population never faced this bitter situation. The sum of these kind of contractions draw the picture, India, rather than the charming bollywood, rocketing market and a decent GDP.
In such a country, a man who has Rs. 1177 crore wealth can offer so much to the people. Instead of that, he had organised an extravagant protest show in the heart of the capital, spending around Rs. 18 crores. People who are living under Rs. 21.6 per day are considered as poor by global index. India, where almost 40% of the population forced to live in starvation, a yoga guru mockering them by giving up his food and water in clueless protest.
Nobody is against the purpose he up holding. But is it the manner to organise and execute a protest whcih all the country supporting? My answer is no, because we have a democratically selected government in power. The people have the right to question it and criticise it, but it should be purposefull. After the success of a brilliantly executed anti corruption protest, people are in a wait to see how eager the Government to implement what they have been demanded. In such a scenaio a protest with the same reason feels something awkward. Baba Ramdev is not Anna Hazare. Ramdev maligned a divine blood less protest against corruption. The publicity offered by such a protest geared the spirit of Ramdev and co. People were reluctunt to extend their support as they did to Hazare. Most of them believe it would ruin the impact of Anna Hazare led agitation.
Ramdev has been in news for years not just for the yoga, the rumors are around that he entering politics. Anti corruption campaigns are the perfect platform to catapult oneself into politcs in present scenario. He has this idea in mind, that was why Ramdev rejected almost a complete compromise package offered by the Government. He has to explain the people why he did not abnadon the protest even the Government kneel down to his demands. The drama has not been ended in the very firtst climax, arrest of Ramdev and forceful evacuation of the protesters. Ramdev challenging a democratically elected Government in a anarchist manner to his own prosperity.
On the other side a sovereign govenrment benting down to a pseudo patriot and lamenting in the media that a guy trying to sabotage the democratic system. What a pathetic condition. Films life span starts with the pre publicity it gained during the production. The marketing techniques embedded with shooting period also boost curiosity among cinegoers. The above mentioned bankable tricks had worked almost with every film in recent times. But what about a period where micro blogging and short messages rules the world of opinion and that too in alacrity?

Film marketing is an hilarious task at this juncture. The first show itself decides the life of film. The first viewer itself writes the destiny. Every viewer can turn to be a reviewer, the whirl winding future in his 'quewerty" keypad deals with the fate. While he/she watching the film the result could be there online, just a matter of few touches in the phone. Nowadays, people are reluctant to watch films without reading a single review. They don’t want to be trapped in cajoling teasers.

Mostly it is affecting the star studded films. Because viewers are eager to break the hype at the very possible moment. Politics of Kerla Election; An Autopsy

Paralysed Politics

Every election leaves out something to dig on. Some disappear as a tenuous argument, but some points are a feast for social pundits. Last election result in Kerala created a flood of questions. For me, the most relevant and least discussed one is, broadening the gap between parliamentary politics and organisational politics. People's verdict shows that they believe in individuals rather than a shaky and immoral political party. The far better result for LDF has not been depicted as a victory for the ethics they are upholding, rather it could be classified as a salute to indefatigable crusade of V.S. The individual charisma of V.S. resulted the somersault in voting booths. It worked more over than CPM's entrenched political background.
This phenomenon is visible in both UDF and LDF. In LDF, it may be clearer if it is explained as the difference between parliamentary (people's) politics of Achutanadan and organisation (party) based politics of CPM state Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan. Why people lose trust in political parties is the plank idea to discuss. For every change there remains a 'how' to answer. But here, plenty of dots are to be joined to get an answer.

Deviation From Politicisng
There is a growing fear that politics is something bound with corruption, nepotism etc. The stand CPM leaders took in some issues gave boost to these believers. Kerala has a fixed image about CPM leaders, they have the examples of A.K.G, Krishnapilla, E.M.S. Etc. When Pinaryi Vijayan makes statements with arrogant tune the resplendent frame of Secretary post started to ashen. During the five year tenure as Chief Minister, V.S. picked up many social issues. The stand party chief took in those matters entirely contradicts CPM philosophy. It catapulted a message to the society that Pinarayi is taking away the party from ordinary citizens and kneeling party's ethics to black listed persons. V.S. fought his battle even when a looming threat of decoupling surrounded him. He unmasked the wrong doings of party leaders, even raised voice against party leader Pinarayi in Lavalin case. The support and majority Pinarayi got from the party underlined the unwillingness of top leaders to take a stand against corruption.

While losing the grip in party V.S. managed to gain support from people for his stands. On the other hand party lost its touch with people and started to sink. During election, voters stood behind a man whom they believe fight for people's justice irrespective of any organizational background. They wedded V.S.'s singular army rather than the horde of mammoth CPM. Most of the candidates understood the Zeitgeist; that's why they printed their posters along with V.S. The trend helped LDF to maintain people support for an extent. The contemporary voters and neutral voters, wooed by Achutnandan, gifted a surprise come back for LDF after the debacle in Lok sabha and Panchayat elections. It was a slap in the face for CPM, a good result but nothing to credit for its leadership. V.S. effect had done the trick; irrespective of an organisational set up he coaxed people to his side.

A Fight inside
I am curious to know what would be M.V. Raghavan and K.R. Gouriyamma are thinking at this moment. They are the early agitators inside the party. But they uprooted from mainstream politics after leaving the party. Many thought that V.S. would not complete his five year tenure in power and more over he would show his agitation by resigning from party. V.S., a clever politician had the examples of MVR and K.R. Gouriyamma. That's where V.S. remain outstanding, he has not moved away from the party back up. He knew how important is to uphold the causes he fight for. He did not want to become a martyr in the anti corruption crusade. He knew that inside revolution has more impact than outside revolution. So he went on. At the end he proved how powerful now he is inside and outside CPM.

He is now bigger than the organisation. People unloaded the burden of over politicizing and they remained with the ethics which political parties strongly preached once upon a time. They left the party but not the philosophy they offered. They need leaders to govern them and they strongly demand he could be more people friendly than party friendly. Common man is the term mostly addressed by V.S. And they stood behind a man who still unfurls the common man's demands.

The idea has not generated automatically in their mind. The clever politician in V.S. penetrated these two elements as the agenda to their mind. He introduced himself as a king who lost support from the palace for his crusade against anti social elements; and seek the support of his citizens to continue his cause. The suppressed hero’s image and the trump card agendas remain as the milestone of surprising voyage by the CPM.

The nation wide agitation against corruption worked as an appetite for V.S. The Hazare similarities molded him as a crusader in power against corruption. People who were disappointed with the corruption spread in the society see a messiah in him. People stood behind the one whom they believe, a crusader against corruption. The wave Anna Hazare catapulted stormed the kerala society. People have seen a Hazare in V.S. Achutanandan. And the opposition, UDF, resembled the same folk, with which Hazare declared his war. People started to believe that those who oppose V.S. are supporting corruption. Fortunately V.S. as more foes than friends. Huge herd of enemies helped to improve his image. Whenever the number of voices against V.S. increased, the number of supporters for his cause also increased.

Instead of campaigning the flaws of Government, the panic crowd, UDF, attacked V.S. personally. They tried to corner him with series of allegations against his son, Arun Kumar. But it diverted another way. Voters thought these were the allegations baked desperately to damage his image. UDF failed to convince the voters. Personal attacks also improved the mileage of V.S. People had gathered to hear him. He won their hearts by delivering speeches attacking individuals in UDF, whom facing allegations. He pointed out each and every action took to curb corruption. He has got a cheering crowd behind him. Supreme Court verdict against Balakrishna Pilla increased trust in V.S. His remarks like, 'those who commit corruption; and attacks woman would sent to jail", invited standing ovation across state.

People who fear their daughters/sisters/wife are not safe in such a society stood with V.S. The remarks of congress leaders, supporting Balakrishna Pilla and Kunjhalikutty turned sour. The introduction of A.K. Antony had not created any impact. UDF leadership miscalculated the amount of impact V.S. factor applied on voters. They believed in static’s not in tactics, Lok sabha, Panchayat elections still glittered their confidence. They had not know the underflow and campaigned with over confidants rather than logic.

During campaign, UDF was like a over confident cricket team failed to chase a comparatively small score with almost all the wickets in hand. When they realised the pitch is not good for batting, the run rate was rose out of reach. V.S., a super captain from the bowling side well set the field to control the top order batsmen. An attacking field curbed them from going for the big shots, a bouncy pitch forced them to defend their head rather than ticking the scoreboard. They forced to take guard to defend, not to attack. Awards and accolades are an infamy when it given as a compliment for compromises. Sometimes it is a reward given to silent the cause one upheld against the powerful. Sometimes it is a present for applauding all the actions by the bosses without any discontent. I haven't met anybody who spurned accolades in above mentioned backgrounds. But I have heard many names that haven't enchanted in this snare. The recent example for the one who haven't crouch before the trap of awards is, Anna Hazare. He was offered Rs. one crore award for his crusade against corruption by IIPM; he simply rejected it without mentioning the reason. I am sure the example will continue.

The practice of wooing the whistle blowers has the history of centuries. Most of the rulers used this 'technology' successfully to suppress the voices against them. The poems and slogans, which praise the rulers, rewarded. Which elucidated their actions in contrast with the people's interest had neglected, to avoid further attempts, they tried to lush them bundles of accolades. Some evaded this trap successfully, but others were got stringent punishment, even lose their lives. In our colonized era, the British government instituted many civilian awards to bestow those who acknowledged their supremacy. After getting independence these awards were re instituted. In1954 padma awards were declared for the first time for recognising its citizen's contributions to the nation. Government was vigilant in upholding the transparency of the prestigious awards. But since from the inception of these awards controversies accompanied it. Time has not bought any change to it and it could not be change if the Government will not intervene neutraly . The number of awardee shoot up from 27 in 1954 to 100 plus in the last year. This alone registers the malpractices in selection procedure.

Though it has instituted as a recognition and approval for the contributions its citizens given to the country, the concept derailed rapidly. Now it is a reward for the favors offered to the politically powerful persons. We can also classify these honors as a bribe labeled in a prestigious package. So what is the credibility of the most prestigious awards of our nation? Do we consider a awardee as a person who contributed to the nation or the one who contributed to the mandarins? So it is the old wine blended in a new bottle. The retro gradation of pre independent era is visible in modern day governing. There is no difference in public and private sector in promoting this atavism. You can observe it everywhere, even as an employee in a private firm, as a police officer, no matter in whatever field you are. The hard work and dedication sabotaged by flattery.

When people are more aware of what is happening around and they are boosted under motivated persons who can lead them to fight against atrocities around, government will lose its cool mind. When they are criticised by these enlighten mob, Governemt try to repress their voices. Bribing the leaders are complicated, so they convince the leaders by offering awards and praises. They create a feel that they are with them. It will help Government to control the agitation, simultaneously silent it forever. There are many renowned personalities who rejected government honors to remain neutral. Arundhathi Roy, Romila Thapar, Anna Hazare are few among them. But the Government not yet learned from the agitations of these individuals.

The brave act of Anna Hazare must work as an eyeopener for the Government. When they announce the honors for next year they should keep it mind and prepare the list according to the norms at which the awards were instituted. I am sure the list of excluded persons must not be longer than the inapt persons honored with prestigious awards. So it is not difficult to the Government to include those who were abandoned. A nation going through an abrupt rising against misbehaves are watching them. It is not easy to avoid flood of tweets and other messages firing from a vigilant citizens. So be careful in installing the prestige of our prestigious honors.

Hartal; The Political Shackle

Hi to Hartal

Fifteen years earlier, if someone had asked me about my favorite holiday, my answer would be similar to other students, 'bandh'. What made it a perfect holiday? No Sunday mass. No guests. Mother won’t force me to accompany her for shopping. Relatives cannot visit us nor be visited; which means, non stop fun. Everyone around would gather before hartal eve to plan how the day would be celebrated. Bandh never disappointed us.

Fifteen years later, bandhs, christened newly as hartal, holds a different feeling for me. The same faces of my friends, which once enlightened by hearing the announcement of hartal, now turns pale. Most of them survive on daily wages, and suffer a lot by losing a day's income. For a TV journalist like me, it is a long day. No food, no water plus free stone pelting. Most of the bandhs, (during the three year tenure as a reporter in Kozhikode bureau) I have spent in K.S.R.T.C. bus stand, giving live updates.

During that riot with hunger, I realised, hartals are not what I saw in my school/college days. I have met many commuters, stranded in mid way to home. Hungry and tired old women, men, children…waiting for dusk to reach home. Most of them were unaware of the reason behind hartal. It can be our kinfolk next time.

Kerala is getting ready to celebrate yet another harthal on Friday. We have not witnessed a state wide hartal for a long time. Now here it is. At this juncture, the debate over hartal ticks again. The arguments opposing hartal is still in the oven, the power button still switched off. The arguments over the ingredients are causing stir among keralites. The high court already banned it twice. But it revived with new names and remains powerful.

It is a battle between political citizens and ordinary citizens. The only difference is that one is benefited and the other is not. There is no doubt about the relevance of banning endosulfan. But is it what prompted politicians to declare a hartal? How does the Kerala govt., which couldn’t even gain state wide support, convince the centre? How could one believe that India, which didn’t give ear to other nations in Stockholm convention would kneel down because of a hartal in Kerala.

Does harthal have a result? It only provides a political mileage to the organisation which imposes it. But what about the ordinary people? Are they ever informed about the result of any of the hartal they have observed? In short, we are fooled by the politicians.

Recently, we have formed a nationwide agitation against corruption. Yes, at last India is changing. Each and every day is important for a developing society. It is a shame that we are still being utilized by our own people, called politicians. So wake up and cast your protest against this injustice. Your voice is my voice and our voice is nation's voice. Let us stick together for a completely free future...

A Fuzzed Up Fan

Which side would you take if your favorite team takes home side in a crucial match? Every Kochin Tuskers fan, who admires sachin as there god in cricket, might feel muddled up, while watching their home team takes on Mumbai Indians on vishu . I was one among them, naive, shattered, confused spectator. I wanted to max out all my energy for both sides and at the same time, oppose both the sides with equal passion. It was difficult to support the home team when the god of cricket dominated over each and every bowler, at the same time my heart ached for the hapless bowlers of kochi, who lost every arrow of their quiver, in vein. I felt both bitterness and sweetness simultaneously. What should i do when sachin clears the aerial boundary each time? Shall I jump with joy or bow with utter disappointment. If somebody had thought I behaved like a lunatic, I would not object. Yes I was.

Same goes when any team, plays against Mumbai Indians. Fans will have a dual heart. Whom to support would be the billion dollar question creeping into their minds. Cricket has only one synonym, sachin tendulkar, people are more his fans, rather than cricket. Most of the new generation fans started watching cricket by the influence of master class perfomances by sachin. They always prayed for the victory of his side. . Now the scenario has changed. He is padding against your local team. How can we overthrow the hero from our heart for the home team? We eagerly watched his innings and it’s our ego to see him scoring century in every match. Then how can we pray, 'oh god, let this man be out in the very first ball'.

When the match picked up its rhythm I was really fuzzed up. Don't know whether I am enjoying it or just watching it passively. It was my first experience to crow over the lose of my captain's dismissal. I was also delighted when Mccullum met the destiny while attempting the most athletic shot in cricket against Malinga. When Ravindra Jadeja and Hodge steadied the innings, i was naturally transformed to a home lover, hoping to taste the honey of victory for the first time with my home side. But i changed rather quickly, when the cameras followed sachin's anxious face in the field. I stood aghast watching his face, we have seen many times the match sachin scored a ton won by the opposite side. But i could not adhere with the fact this time, because it is his maiden ton in the short version of the game.

When jadeja hit second six off Murtaza and overwhelmed with the result that it brought, I was with the thousands of Mumbai fans, who down the head in agony. And I was not able to watch the screen of my television again, because my hero would be there hand shacking the opponents, smiling in agony, without cursing the bowlers, who ruined his effort in vein. ഒരു കൊച്ചു അരുവിയായി ഒഴുകാന്‍ കൊതിയാകുന്നു. കടലിലിലൊഴുകി മരണമടയുന്ന വിശാലമായ പുഴയായൊഴുകുന്നതിനേക്കാള്‍ എത്രയോ മനോഹരമാണത്. കടലെന്ന മഹാവ്യാപിയുടെ തണലും, വ്യാപ്തിയും, കരുത്തും തുണയായുണ്ടെങ്കിലും വ്യക്തിത്വം നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് ഇങ്ങനെ എത്രനാള്‍. കടലിലലിഞ്ഞ പുഴയെ പിന്നെയാരുമറിയുന്നില്ല. പലപുഴകളുമായി ഒത്തുച്ചേര്‍ന്ന് കടലെന്ന ഒറ്റപ്പേരില്‍ എല്ലാം ഒളിപ്പിച്ച് ഇങ്ങനെ...

കടലിനെ തുള്ളികളിലളക്കുന്ന കാലം വരുമോ? വരില്ല. വന്നാല്‍ പിന്നെ കടലെന്ന പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ പേരിനും പെരുമയ്ക്കും എന്തു പ്രസക്തി. വ്യക്തികളുടെ പ്രസകതിയെ പ്രസ്ഥാനങ്ങള്‍ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു. അലിഞ്ഞു ചേരലുകള്‍ക്കും അതിലേറെ അഴുകി ചേരലുകള്‍ക്കുമാണ് അവിടെ സാധ്യത. പല പേരില്‍ ഒഴുകി വന്ന് ഒന്നു ചേര്‍ന്ന് ഒന്നായി ഒഴുകണം. എങ്ങോട്ടെന്ന് ചോദിക്കരുത്. ചോദിക്കുന്നവന്റെ ദൌത്യം തിരയായി തീരത്തെ നക്കിതുടയ്ക്കുന്നതിലൊതുങ്ങും. ആഴക്കടലിന്റെ മനോഹാരിതയിലും, വൈവിധ്യങ്ങളിലും, വിഭവങ്ങളിലും അവന് സ്ഥാനമില്ല.

നീല നിറം കടലിന്റെ മഹത്വമല്ല. ആകാശത്തിന്റെ ഔദാര്യമാണ്. അടുത്തെത്തിയാല്‍ അറിയാം ചെളിനിറഞ്ഞ വിശ്വരൂപം. ആകാശപറക്കലില്‍ കടലുകാണുന്നവരെ മാത്രം അഭിസംബോധന ചെയ്ത് എത്രനാള്‍ അഹങ്കരിക്കാനാകും. കടലിനേക്കാളും കടല്‍ത്തീരത്തെയും, കടല്‍ക്കാറ്റിനേയും സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവരാണ് തീരത്തെത്തിയവരില്‍ ഏറെയെന്ന് ആരെങ്കിലുമൊന്നു പറഞ്ഞു കൊടുത്തെങ്കില്‍. ആരും പറയില്ല…പറയാനാണ് എങ്കില്‍ എന്നേ ആകാമായിരുന്നു.

കടല്‍വെള്ളത്തിന് എന്നെങ്കിലും കൃഷിയിടങ്ങളെ നനയ്ക്കാനാകുമോ.. ചെടികളെ തലോടാനാകുമോ… തന്റെ രക്തത്തില്‍ വിരിഞ്ഞ പുഷ്പദളങ്ങളെ കാണാനാകുമോ…ഒന്നിനും കഴിയില്ല. കടലിനെ ആരെങ്കിലും സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നുണ്ടോ…ആഴങ്ങളിലെ നിധി തേടിയിറങ്ങുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് സത്യത്തില്‍ ഭയമല്ലേ കടലിനെ. ഭാവിക്കുന്നുണ്ടാകാം പലരും സ്നേഹം വാരിചൊരിയുന്നതായി. പക്ഷേ ആര്‍ക്കും കടലിനെ സ്നേഹിക്കാനാകില്ല. കടലിന്റെ വന്യതയില്‍ ആവേശം കൊള്ളുമായിരിക്കും. സ്വന്തം വികാരങ്ങളെ തൃപ്ത്തിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിനപ്പുറം അതിലെന്താണുള്ളത്. ഇതിനൊക്കെയപ്പുറം ആരുടെ മനസിലും കടലിന് സ്ഥാനമില്ലന്നതല്ലേ സത്യം.

സൂര്യന് ഈ സത്യം അറിയില്ലേ അതോ അഭയമേകുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അറിയുന്നില്ല എന്നു ഭാവിക്കുന്നോ…സൂര്യനും കടലുമാണ് കൂട്ട്. അവര്‍ തമ്മില്‍ പരസ്പര സഹകരണത്തിനുള്ള സന്ധി ഒപ്പിട്ടുണ്ടാകാം. അസ്തമയം കാണാനാണ് ഏവര്‍ക്കും താല്‍പര്യം. ഉദയം കാണാന്‍ ആരാണുള്ളത്. ആര്‍ക്കാണ് സമയം. എല്ലാം ദിനവും കൃത്യമായി സൂര്യനെത്തും. തീരത്തെത്തുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് വിരുന്നൊരുക്കാന്‍. കാഴ്ച്ചക്കാരായി ഒട്ടേറെ പേരുണ്ടാകും. ആരോടാണ് സൂര്യന് കൂറ്. വെളിച്ചം കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നവരോടോ. അതോ ഇരുട്ടില്‍ അഭയം നല്‍കുന്ന കടലിനോടോ..രണ്ടാമത്തേതിനാണ് കൂടുതല്‍ സാധ്യത. പക്ഷേ ഉദയം കാണാന്‍ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നവരുമുണ്ടിവിടെ. അവര്‍ക്കായി എന്നെങ്കിലും സൂര്യന് കടലില്‍ നിന്നുദിച്ചുയരാനാകുമോ. എന്നെങ്കിലും കടലിന് സൂര്യന് ഉദയം നല്‍കാനാകുമോ. ഒരിക്കലും കഴിയില്ല. അസ്തമിപ്പിക്കാനാകും, ഉദയം നല്‍കാനാവില്ല. രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടേ പറ്റൂ ഈ അപൂര്‍ണമായ ലോകത്തു നിന്ന്…

13/04/2011, yet another election to the Kerala state assembly, in India, has completed. The polling percentage is impressive comparing with other states. I am one among the voters, now eagerly waiting for the results. It has a delay of one month. Regarding the procedure of election, a thought has been started to rankle my mind, since i casted my first vote. Still it confusing me. I do not know, when i heard the word 'democracy', first time in my life, But i am sure that i really fascinated with the term. I was really proud of being a citizen in the largest democratic country of this world. When i grow up, i really doubt that, do we really a democratic country?

We are obliged to Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest rulers of modern world, to the definition of 'Democracy'. He explained democratic government as a government,of the people, by the people, for the people. The word 'democracy' comes from the Greek. It has the meaning, 'rule of the people'. Is that really you and me ruling this government? Is our thoughts and wishes are leading the government we chosen into power? The answer is no, it is obvious that everyone does not have the opportunity to lead a country. So the chosen people, who have been chosen by the people ruling this country. At this juncture, i need a clarity for the haunting question in my mind, do we have the opportunity to choose the representative who could rule us. Here we have a list of people, not chosen by the real people, it has a herd of people, roaming around power, in the name of politics, who creating the list. There are so many candidates in the list, the voters are choosing one from it, does that list of candidates contains the exact one to rule us, if there is one, does he have the capability to woo the people? We are forced to choose one from a diminutive list, prepared, not by the people, but herd of politicians. If we really a democratic country, we should have the power to ignore the candidate, who does not have the caliber to rule this country. Unfortunately, we have not been cherished with that opportunity.

Both the UDF and LDF have failed to upheld the Chief Minister candidate in this election campaign. They battled the election without pointing a leader. They ignored the right of the people to know who will lead them, if they choose a particular front into power. There are V.S. Achutanandan and Umman chandy, but, both the front did not give any clarity about the chief minister ship of these veteran leaders. It is my right to know, who will lead me in the government, chosen by myself. I am not only voting for a Legislative Member from my constituency, by voting for a particular candidate, i am also voting for a particular government. Here both the front cheating the voter, by keeping the name of the leader in ambush. We have seen that, sometimes it is not the agenda of the political party, which is in power, have implemented by the government, people love VS because he formed his own path deviating away from the party manifesto. So if one voted for LDF, he may be done so by the influence of that particular leader. So the front has the onus to reveal him that who will lead him in the Government. They must give him the opportunity to change his mind, if they have someone else in mind to lead the state. It is disappointing to say, we are trapped to select a Government, by our votes. Bad memories are immortal, until somebody decide to turn the destiny upside down. India has been living with such a lingering memory, regarding the world cup, for a long15 years. Now a brave man and co healed the aching wound of a world cup defeat in 1996, which glued into the minds of thousands of indian cricket fans. Its a journey of vengeance from 1996 kolkatta to 2011 Mumbai. In kolkatta we had to surrender our dream of winning yet another world cup to srilanka, in the semi final. The match was abandoned due to the uncontrollable interference of crowd, and declared srilanka as the winners. Vinod Kambli the lone genuine batsman for india were remained there unbeaten and he left the ground with tears. It was the image of 1996 WC. This haunted cricket fans through out this period. We have now exorcised the image of infamy with yet another picture of weeping a indian cricketer, again a sensational southpaw, Yuvraj sing. Tears of agony transformed into tears of happiness. The tears of hardeness has been rewritten with tears of softness.

It is the perfect time for indian cricket to take the guard again and convert the perfect start into a glorious future. Winning world cup is not a finishing point, its a starting point, the beginning of a new era. It was this lack of caring or otherwise, nurturing a success into dominance of the game, delayed our second WC win for 28 years. We should promise that, a post 1983 WC history will not take place again and no player will shed tears of loss in the coming future.

We have to learn from the series of WC success of australia. In 1996 they are the runners up and from there they posted three consecutive success in WC. We have to follow the australians to pursue the dominance they had over cricketing countries in recent past. India has the talent and potential to dominate the world of cricket. It is the board and the mandarins of cricket to do the rest. Keep aside politics and nepotism and uphold the spirit and unity of april 2 to the future. We can make it in every four years, at least for a decade.
