The Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) logo glimpse of other forms of “green label”. It is worth noting that eco-labelling is a voluntary green label, which is contrary to the mandatory national standard MSPO.

The Malaysian government has taken pragmatic measures in response to the anti-palm oil campaign, particularly the No Palm Oil (NPO) campaign, which employs NPO labelling.

Thus, the MSPO logo serves as an essential tool for consumers seeking palm oil products that have been sourced sustainably. It denotes strict adherence to rigorous MSPO standards, assuring customers that their products meet the requirements. It indicates that the product was produced on an MSPO-certified oil palm plantation and the organisation has been certified to meet MSPO requirements.

This emblem facilitates consumer choices aligned with the UN SDGs agenda and three (3) pillars of sustainability. The organisations featuring the MSPO logo on their products and off-product signal a commitment to sustainable palm oil.

In recent years, companies such as SOP Foods Sdn Bhd, East Asia Palm Products Sdn Bhd, Kwantas Oil Sdn Bhd, and Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd have actively adopted the MSPO logo, symbolizing their commitment to responsible palm oil production. Brands like MERRIS, SARACO, CRESCENT, ASADA, REISER, Twin Leaves, "Minyak Mas," "Minyak Emas," and TIGA UDANG proudly display the MSPO logo on their products, reinforcing their dedication to sustainable practices in both local and international markets.

As stated earlier, the MSPO logo represents Malaysia's mandatory standard for sustainable palm oil. In contrast, the SIRIM Eco-labelling mark represents voluntary participation in a National Eco-labelling Programme of Malaysia also as a member of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN) indicating that a product meets environmental criteria based on life cycle considerations and scientific methodology.

Moreover, the "No Palm Oil" labels on products have sparked debate, raising concerns from producing countries as the accusations are skewed by detractors. As a repercussion, the Malaysian government, through amendments to The Trade Descriptions Act 2011 effective March 2022, strictly prohibits discriminatory statements concerning palm oil and enforces fines or imprisonment for misleading labels.

In addition, another effort to underpin the palm oil industry's reputation globally introducing the Global Framework Principles of Sustainable Palm Oil (GFP-SPO) by the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) and efforts between Malaysia and Indonesia to counter the anti-palm oil campaign and negative narratives and promote sustainable practices via a comprehensive framework that emphasizes responsible practices and serves as a common language across certification schemes.

Therefore, the palm oil industry must find a balance between adhering to MSPO standards, voluntarily adopting eco-labelling, and responding to concerns raised by the No Palm Oil campaign. This equilibrium is essential for the industry's sustainable future.

In a nutshell, the MSPO logo stands as a beacon for responsible production, promoting transparency and accountability in the supply chain and fostering positive environmental, societal, and economic impacts.

MSPO 2022 :Biomass Palm oil as Renewable Energy

Malaysia was recognized as the world's second-largest oil palm producer. It is estimated that between 50 to 75 million m3 of palm oil mill effluent (POME) is generated annually in Malaysia. A large amount of biomass waste was found from the palm oil extraction, washing, and cleaning process. This process has collected tons of empty fruit bunches (EFB), mesocarp fiber, palm kernel shell, and POME. All these are produced from the palm oil milling process, oil palm fronds, and trunks from plantation activities such as pruning and replanting.

On that note, the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) MS2530:2022 standard has highlighted that the use of renewable energy shall be encouraged and applied where practical. The application shall help the Malaysian government achieve about 20 percent renewable energy (RE) capacity in 2025. Following the effort, the Malaysian government is committed to contributing to ASEAN's renewable energy (RE) target of 35% RE capacity by 2025.

With that, in line with the commitment, the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) chain of custody (CoC) of oil palm biomass (MS 2751:2022) was launched in March 2022 to ensure the biomass palm oil is sustainable and can be used as renewable energy. Biomass palm oil was identified to have many purposes and an infinite source of energy. It also can be converted into bio-products.

Furthermore, biomass palm oil could significantly neutralize carbon compared to fossil fuels. The fuel from the natural part of the carbon can be cycled as the source of biofuels. Also, biomass palm oil will be reduced depending on fossil fuels.

The palm oil industry for biomass has been proven to produce a vast supply of by-products that can be readily used for future energy sources. Principle 5 of the revised MSPO Standards MS2530:2022 has highlighted in criterion 2 the efficiency of energy use and use of renewable energy, and criterion 3 emphasizes waste management and disposal. In relation to that, MSPO urged all the industry players to adopt the 3R concept imposed on the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

The need to effectively utilize biomass palm oil is alarming. Hence, the concept of circularity in the palm oil industry will be able to create a self-regenerative system that will result in better sustainability. The sustainable palm oil industry will significantly emerge a circular economy that will benefit the local communities and stakeholders. Palm oil biomass will contribute as an input resource, which would widen the perspective of considering it as an output waste.

Biomass energy has proven as one of the most promising environmentally sustainable renewable energy sources. The palm oil biomass was obtained wholly or partly manufactured or recovered palm oil which includes feedstock and product. These materials can be categorized into liquid and solid depending on biomass sources. Promoting biomass palm oil as renewable energy was in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda, specifically Goal 12, to ensure sustainable consumption and production. It is vital to ensure that production and consumption are done responsibly and create a balance between environmental, societal, and economic considerations.

The oil palm industry significantly contributes to Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and Malaysia is the second highest palm oil producer worldwide. According to Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) data, as of Dec 2021, about 5.73 million hectares of land were used to grow palm oil in Malaysia. This fact has shown a sign of urgency for Malaysia’s palm oil industry to adopt a sustainable practice.

With that notion, Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) has introduced the High Conservation Value (HCV) guidelines to its stakeholders. High Conservation Value (HCV) emphasizes the biological, ecological, social, and cultural values, a critical issue to be debated in the palm oil industry. This issue has alarmed the nations to put some stop signs on any circumstances critically. Any legal requirement relating to HCV must be followed as to Principle 3: Compliance with legal and other requirements. Due to the urge to react, MSPO has tried to protect Malaysia’s rich biodiversity. MSPO plays a vital role in preserving biodiversity in Malaysia.

In MS2530:2022, biodiversity refers to the variety of life. It is the diversity of all living organisms from the various ecosystems of the planet. It includes diversity within species, between species, and of ecosystems in which they live. Biodiversity is significant in pollination and crop production, and more than one-third of the world’s food crops depend on natural pollination involving animal and insect species. It shows how important the role of fauna species is in maintaining the natural balance of the ecosystems.

Moreover, biodiversity also plays an essential role in stabilizing the climate, where plants act as carbon stores that help slow down the development of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In addition, biodiversity also prevents and reduces the effects of natural disasters. Thus, forests protect the landscape from erosion, nutrient loss, and landslides through the action of root grip. Biodiversity also plays a vital role in soil generation and maintaining air and water quality.

The urge to focus on the 5 Pillars of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has influenced MSPO to highlight its direction to adopt and endorse High Biodiversity Value (HBV) in 2013. Seeing the significant role of biodiversity in maintaining the balance of the environment, MSPO plays a role in protecting Malaysia’s biodiversity. The main plan is to ensure the sustainability of the ecosystems is maintained. MSPO first introduced the certification program in 2015, and it has become an indicator of quality that must be complied with by all stakeholders.

Newly revised standards MS2530:2022 have been announced to prohibit any conversion involving natural forests, protected areas, and High Conservation Value areas after 31st December 2019.

It is a mandatory requirement for all the stakeholders involved in oil palm plantations to comply with the conditions set by the MSPO. If these necessary conditions are not adhered to, the entity won’t get certified by MSPO. Therefore, oil palm growers need to practice good agriculture practices to conserve biodiversity.

Good agriculture practices can improve soil fertility naturally and can strengthen pest control. MSPO focuses on the sustainability of the palm oil industry, where biodiversity is a priceless treasure and a legacy for future generations. The initiatives involved in the commitment to environmental management, conservation, and protection shall cover pollution prevention, optimizing the use of natural resources, and mitigating the impacts of global warming.

Ekspedisi ini diketuai oleh James Brooke, yang dilantik sebagai Rajah Sarawak pertama pada tahun 1841. Tujuan ekspedisi ini adalah untuk meluaskan wilayah Sarawak dan mengawal wilayah Katibas, yang didiami oleh orang asli Dayak.

Ekspedisi itu mendapat tentangan daripada orang Dayak, yang berhati-hati dengan kedatangan orang asing dan niat mereka.

What is Katibas Expeditions ?

The Katibas Expedition refers to a historical event that took place in the 19th century in the region of Sarawak, Borneo. The expedition was led by James Brooke, who was appointed as the first Rajah of Sarawak in 1841. The purpose of the expedition was to expand the territory of Sarawak and establish control over the region of Katibas, which was inhabited by indigenous Dayak people.

The expedition was met with resistance from the Dayak people, who were wary of the arrival of the foreigners and their intentions.

However, after a series of battles and negotiations, the Dayak people agreed to recognize Brooke as their ruler and the expedition was successful in establishing control over the region of Katibas.

While Naga and his people lived at Batu Gong they were twice attacked by the Rajah’s force during the first and second Katibas expeditions against Enjop, the brother of Balang, in 1869 and 1870.

May 1870-a force of Kanowit Dayaks under their chief Lintong attempted to capture the fort at Sibu on the Rejang but was repulsed. A few months later the Rajah led an expedition up the Katibas River to punish the Lintong, who was captured and made to live for some years under supervision at Kuching.

But the Kanowit & Katibas Dyaks were not pacified, Another expedition in 1871 was sent against them. After their villages had been burnt many of them were moved to an area more easily controlled,further down the Rejang.

Namun ,sehingga kini tiada tanda-tanda pembinaan sudah bermula dan Jambatan Konkrit Besi yang dijanjikan sepatutnya di bina dari Jalan Bukit Goram bersebelahan Jambatan Sungai Senansang, yang menelan kos RM 12 Juta ,sepanjang 42.672 meter itu dijangka mengambil masa 18 bulan tempoh pembinaan bermula Jun 2017.

Buat masa ini, SK Sungai Kapit hanya boleh dihubungi dengan mengunakan JAMBATAN GANTUNG LAMA yang merentasi Sungai Kapit.

Masalah sekarang timbul bila , Pihak Kakitangan Sekolah terpaksa meletakkan kenderaan di seberang Jambatan Gantung Lama yang memiliki laluan sempit yang terletak di kawasan perumahan penduduk yang kekurangan tempat meletak kereta .

Dengan siapnya Jambatan Besi dari Jalan Bukit Goram akan memberi manfaat kepada lebih daripada 500 pelajar dan Kakitangan Sekolah juga Ibubapa yang berurusan di Sekolah.

Dengan ini,saya mengesa pihak JKR Sarawak mempercepatkan pembinaan Jambatan Besi tersebut yang sudah terlewat dari jadual asal.

Kerja penyukatan Lot-Lot Individu perlu dilakukan dengan kadar segera kerana kawasan berkenaan sekarang terletak di kawasan strategik laluan jalan baru Song -Kapit selepas pembukaan Jambatan Katibas pada Julai 2017.

Kita mengesa kerajaan memperuntukkan dana untuk kerja-kerja penyukatan tersebut supaya penduduk kampung yang terbabit memiliki geran hak milik tanah.

Ini adalah kerana ,kerajaan telah memperuntukan dana RM 30 juta bagi Program Pengukuran NCR pada tahun 2017 .

Memandangkan musim cuti sekolah dan musim tengkujuh sudah menjelang dan laporan dari penduduk yang sedang keluar dan masuk ke Pekan Kapit melalui jalan darat atau off-road Kanowit-Song-Kapit diminta berhati-hati kerana jalan yang agak licin dan berisiko.

Berdasarkan perkongsian di media sosial, air yang melimpah telah menghalang laluan pengguna laluan off-road yang melalui Jalan Kanowit-Song-Kapit sehingga ada tragedi kereta terkandas di laluan tersebut.

Selain daripada itu ,aras sungai juga telah melimpahi dan melebihi paras bahaya di Batang Rajang.

Kita mengesa supaya Lembaga Sungai-Sungai Sarawak melakukan tinjauan yang lebih kerap.

Ini adalah kerana, pada musim cuti sekolah pengangkutan boat express akan lebih sesak daripada hari biasa dan laluan off-road Kapit-Sibu agak berbahaya kerana jalan licin dan becak

DAP Kapit joined Peaceful Rally NCR Land at Old Court House organised by Sarawak Dayak Iban Association(SADIA) on 13th Nov 2017.

DAP Kapit stands together with Pakatan Harapan to support the peaceful protest to advocate native rights.

The land of the natives has been taken away by BN through their policies which are in favour of their cronies and not people.

The policies have been in effect for decades and many natives are now left with no land.

DAP Kapit urges the government must give the land back to the native community so that as a whole the people of Sarawak can progress together.

Under the BN government ,for Sarawak the rich are getting richer ;the poor getting poorer.

SONG ,KAPIT :Pejabat Majlis Daerah Kapit (MDK)(Cawangan Song) adalah salah satu cawangan Majlis Daerah Kapit yang bertanggungjawab untuk melaksanakan agenda pembangunan infrastruktur dan luar bandar di Daerah Song amnya, dan Pekan Song khasnya. Pada masa ini Pekan Song belum dihubungkan oleh Jalan Berturap ke Pekan Kapit dan juga Bandar Sibu, menyebabkan kekangan dari segi geografi dan logistik kepada pembangunan daerah ini.

Sebagaimana bidang tugas utama Majlis, keadaan bangunan awam di Pekan Song, seperti di Tingkat Satu diatas “Bangunan Market Basah Pekan Song” yang menempatkan gerai makan (foodcourt) yang beroperasi dari tahun 80an lagi masih nampak uzur dan mengalami kebocoran meskipun telah dilakukan baikpulih pada tahun 2015 oleh pihak Majlis.

Kami juga mendapati,Bangunan Perpustakaan Awam Song juga perlu dinaiktaraf dari segi kemudahan supaya dapat memenuhi keperluan penduduk setempat khasnya Pelajar Sekolah yang menuntut sehingga Tingkatan Enam Atas di Pekan Song ini adalah kerana Bangunan yang dibuka awal tahun 90an itu masih tidak berubah semenjak 20 tahun lalu.

Manakala Sistem Perparitan di Pekan Song, terutamanya di sepanjang jalan yang menghubungkan rumah panjang dan kawasan perumahan dengan Pekan Song tidak dilengkap dan menyeluruh.
Peruntukan dana ini amat diperlukan oleh Majlis Daerah Kapit, kerana di dalam daerah dan bahagian lain di Sarawak kian membanguan dari segi infrasturuktur dan juga sosio ekonomi, Bahagian Kapit khasnya Pekan Song pula bukan sahaja ketinggalan, tetapi masih bergelut di dalam meneruskan tugas – tugas setempat untuk membaik pulih dan meyelenggara kemudahan sedia ada yang kian uzur.

Kerajaan Negeri dan juga Kerajaan Persekutuan yang merupakan pembiaya utama Majlis didesak untuk mengagihkan peruntukan yang lebih banyak kepada Majlis supaya pihak Majlis mampu menyediakan petugas dan juga asset yang mencukupi untuk menjalankan tugas mereka dengan lebih berkesan dan produktif memandangkan kekangan geografi dan faktor logistik di Bahagian Kapit memerlukan kos perlaksanaan yang besar.

Kapit :Selepas mendengar aduan📝 daripada penduduk sungai Sut berkenaan jalan simpang menuju ke Klinik Desa Nanga Bena dan SK Nanga Bena yang menggunakan laluan yang sama, kami meninjau keadaan jalan yang sepanjang 300 meter ini masih lagi belum berturap walaupun jalan utama sudah diturap.

Menurut sumber, pihak kerajaan telah berjanji menaiktaraf jalan tersebut kepada jalan bertar dengan peruntukkan RM 200,000.💰

Tetapi setakat ini, kerja -kerja pembinaan 🔨🔩🔧belum dimulakan. Oleh itu, kami mengesa supaya kerja naiktaraf dilakukan dengan kadar segera supaya urusan harian penduduk ke Klinik dan sekolah berjalan dengan lancar.

Selain daripada itu, ADUN Pelagus juga pernah berjanji untuk menaiktaraf Klinik Desa Nanga Bena melalui manifesto Piliharaya Negeri Sarawak ke 11.

Antara keperluan mendesak 🏥Klinik Desa Nanga Bena, buat masa ini adalah Kemudahan Ambulan sekiranya berlaku kes kecemasan dirujuk ke Klinik Desa ini. Ini adalah kerana, jarak ke Hospital Kapit🏩 lebih kurang 40km dan pihak klinik terpaksa mengunakan motokar🚘 peribadi kakitangan klinik untuk menghantar pesakit kecemasan ke Hospital Kapit.

📕SEKOLAH KEBANGSAAN NANGA BENA,SUNGAI SUT KAPIT PERLUKAN PERHATIAN SEGERA DARIPADA PIHAK KERAJAAN.

KAPIT:Sekolah Kebangsaan Nanga Bena ,Sungai Sut, Kapit telah dibina pada tahun 1965 yang telah dirasmikan oleh Mendiang Tun Sri Temenggung Jugah anak Barieng.

Pada mulanya, sekolah ini telah ditadbir oleh Majlis Daerah Kapit (MDK) kemudian diserahkan kepada Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia (KPM) .

Buat masa ini, sekolah yang dikategorikan sebagai Pedalaman 2.Namun sekarang, Sekolah yang terletak 39km dari Pekan Kapit ini boleh dihubungkan dengan jalan raya berturap.

Selain itu, SK Nanga Bena merupakan sekolah pertama di Sarawak diangkat dibawah Program Sekolah Angkat 1Malaysia 2012 dan pernah memenangi Anugerah Sekolah Cemerlang 2010.

Berdasarkan tinjauan ke kawasan Sekolah SK Nanga Bena, kami mendapati sekolah ini dalam keadaan usang dan tidak selamat untuk diduduki kerana terdedah dengan risiko banjir dan tanah runtuh kerana sekolah ini terletak ditebing sungai sut.

Pada tahun 2012,Kerajaan pernah berjanji untuk menaiktaraf sekolah ini dan menempatkan ke lokasi yang lebih selamat.

Semasa Pilihanraya Negeri Sarawak ke 11 pada tahun 2016.ADUN Pelagus BN pernah berjanji untuk menaiktaraf sekolah ini sekiranya mendapat mandat daripada rakyat .

Saya mengesa supaya kerajaan memperuntukkan dana untuk menaiktaraf sekolah ini untuk BAJET 2018.

PUTRAJAYA NEGLECTS RURAL FOLK IN SARAWAK YET CURRY FAVOUR WITH TRUMP

(ABANDONED FOR 16 YEARS UNDER BARISAN NASIONAL ADMINISTRATION)

With reference to Dr James Jemut Masing’s recent statement where he spoke on the federal government’s lack of assistance towards fixing up and improving rural schools in State, and Putrajaya’s reluctance to help rural schools.

Currently, Sarawak is in need of funds to fix over 1,000 ‘shaky’ schools but at a time when the State’s rural areas are so deep in trouble and help, sadly, our Prime Minister chooses to take money to invest at of all places, the United States of America (USA).

Despite the promises made by Dr James and Alex Nanta to the Dayak, still our Najib Razak and the BN government choose to take money to invest elsewhere at the expense of Malaysians in Sarawak.Instead of investing in the USA and purchasing Boeing jets worth USD10 billion, this same amount of money, or even less, could help develop enough rural schools in Sarawak, and take care of our children’s education needs, in particular, Dayak children.

BN’s elected representatives in the rural areas always proudly say only the Barisan Nasional government can bring a development to Sarawak rural but why Putrajaya neglects rural schools?

The money invested by Malaysian Government overseas, in particular the USA, can help in rural development for basic infrastructure such as roads and electricity in Kapit division, better healthcare facilities at Kapit hospital, education as well as to fix the dilapidated schools in Kapit and to build SK Nanga Musah in Katibas that was abandoned for 16 years, or to upgrade the water treatment plant in Song and Kapit.

Now I ask Alex Nanta Linggi, the Kapit Member of Parliament and Dr James himself, where are the promises made by you both, and what have you done for the Dayak community.

Why do they keep silent on this matter?

Perkhidmatan Kemudahan Kesihatan awam di KAPIT yang dipandang ringan oleh pihak kerajaan.

Pada Oktober 2013, Kementerian Kesihatan,pernah mengumumkan bahawa kerja-kerja menaik taraf fasiliti dan kemudahan Hospital Kapit, Sarawak akan dilakukan secara berperingkat. Namun begitu ,tiada usaha ke arah itu dari pihak Kerajaan.

Berat mata memandang berat lagi bahu memikul.Pengorbanan Pegawai Perubatan KK Klinik Kesihatan Chemanong Ulu Katibas Song .Sekarang dah tahun 2017 tapi masih lagi serba kekurangan.

Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia harus menimbang cadangan untuk menempatkan lebih ramai pegawai kesihatan kanan ,pakar bedah umum dan pakar tulang untuk berkhidmat di Hospital Kapit.

Ini adalah kerana,“Pesakit perlu dirujuk ke Hospital Sibu disebabkan ketiadaan pakar bedah umum, walaupun Hospital Kapit dilengkapi kemudahan dewan bedah. Keadaan ini telah menyebabkan kerugian masa dan membahayakan pesakit.

Beginilah hidup orang di Kapit. Andai kemudahan hospital Kapit tidak dapat memenuhi keperluan pesakit, pesakit terpaksa dihantar ke Sibu. Bot ekpress terpaksa digunakan merentasi Sungai Rejang(Mac 2017)

Ini disebabkan jarak masa yang diperlukan untuk menghantar pesakit dari Hospital Kapit ke Hospital Sibu memakan masa 3 jam perjalanan mengunakan boat dan anggaran masa 4 jam hingga 5 jam keseluruhan masa untuk sampai di Hospital Sibu ” kita berharap pihak Kerajaan memandang serius serta mengambil tindakan ke atas perkara ini.

Menurut sumber dari Lembaga Hospital Kapit, sekitar dua kes dirujuk dari Hospital Kapit ke Hospital Sibu setiap hari, menjadikan purata kira-kira 60 hingga 70 kes dirujuk setiap bulan.

Kebanyakan pesakit enggan dirujuk ke Hospital Sibu disebabkan faktor jarak perjalanan yang jauh dan masalah kewangan.

Aug 2016: Pesakit dari Song di rujuk ke HOSPITAL KAPIT mengunakan SPEED BOAT.

“Ramai pesakit daripada keluarga miskin dan tidak mampu menampung perbelanjaan dan perlu ditemani ahli keluarga ketika dirawat di Hospital Sibu yang berasal dari lebih daripada 300 buah rumah panjang sekitar Daerah Song dan Daerah Kapit

Hospital Kapit telah dibina pada tahun 1958 oleh Pihak Missionary sebelum diserahkan kepada Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) pada 1974.

Pernah menjadi Hospital yang sangat popular pada masa itu( 1958 hingga 1974) sehingga ramai pesakit daripada daerah lain seperti Kuching , Miri dan Sibu mendapatkan rawatan di Hospital Kapit.
