Where to buy Essential Oil from Malaysia (Online) & How to spot Fake Essential Oil

I am starting my journey on essential oil and pinterest has various good tips on the area of essential oils.

Sourcing for essential oil can be overwhelming. There are so many essential oil brands with different price ranged. I wanted to avoid synthetic and adulterated essential oil. After all I wanted to gain the benefits from using essential oil. Using fake ones will just backfire on me or waste my money. At the same time, I wanted to try many scents and I would rather avoid direct sales essential oil as I do not have a big budget.

So the mission should you accept it, is to find an affordable essential oil that is genuine, smells good and stick with it!

I find that this video in YouTube gave good tips on how to spot a pure essential oil to a fake one. However some of the points can still be abuse by companies who just wanted to make a quick buck.
One of the points that I was interested in experimenting is the Oily test (Point 5 @ 2.38minue).

It says that most true essential oil will not leave a oily residue if drop on the sheet of white paper with exception of some heavy base notes. If there is an oily residue, then it has been likely stretch with carrier oil which is common for cheaper essential oil in the market.

I have experimented on this points.
Albeit I am just starting and certain brands, I only had 1 bottles while other brands I had more.

I won't be taking a picture and posting the results yet. Cause it just a white sheet of paper for those that pass.

If you wanted to do your own test, just draw on a paper a box, write the brand and 1 drop of essential oil. Set it aside and check the next day.

Brands that pass the test:
1. NOW essential oil - I have tested the Lavender, Clove, Cinnamon, Rosemary, Peppermint, Citronella, Lemongrass. All of them does not have any leftover oily residue on the paper. I find that the smell are lasting (in the bottle even after 1 year) and the Lavender, Clove & Rosemary do not have a heady smell which some people tend to be sensitive to. It suit budget conscious people who wants quality essential oil. This brand is available in IHerb and it can be ship to Malaysia. Use code ASK7366 to obtain a 5% discount
2. KOSMO. My hubby bought from a shop. It is a Made in Malaysia brand. I tested the lemongrass aroma oil.
3. Derma Health (Australia) Pty Ltd - I tested the Lavender Organic Essential Oil. I bought from Lazada.

Brands that do not pass the test: (I did not want to highlight this, but this posting will also serve as my own record for my future reference. So I will write with some *** as this post is not meant to bash the one that did not pass)
1. BioFi***t - I tested orange, lavender and ylang ylang. All of them have oily residue. Frankly the smell of the essential oil fades after a few months with the exception of ylang ylang. It is written on the bottle that it is a therapeutic grade and that it is pure essential oil which I am highly skeptical. I bought from Qoo10. I tried to utilize this brand heavily just so that I could finish and move on from my disappointment. I would never buy this brand again.

Brands that I have the stock and yet to be tested. I am just going thru with my existing stocks before plunging thru my new toys.

Have you tried IHerb in Malaysia!

(This is not a paid review, I am just writing my experience using IHerb for first time. USA online sites seems to realize there is a wider international market out here as shipping cost are getting more affordable!)

I have just bought and have received my products delivered to Malaysia.

IHerb is a US base online website that has 1,200 brands and 35,000 brand name products of health food stores like vitamins, essential oil, vanilla essence, various spices, make up, fitness items, baby items and etc~.

I have been looking at this site few years back but I only tried it now because I notice that the site are more user friendly. I like that
1) It automatically display price in MYR by detecting your country location

2) The delivery charges are so affordable.

I notice that the delivery charges was cheaper when i exceed a certain amount. It says in their site that if you purchase USD40 above then there is discounted shipping rates.

So I spend around RM250 and my shipping rate via DHL was only RM13! (I did not buy heavy items though. I just enjoy seeing the shipping fee goes down once I purchase a certain amount. I wish i could say the same about Amazon!)

3) It state when was the arrival date, which I received my order precisely as promised. Shortly after I made payment, I received an email from DHL telling me when the orders will arrive!

In the mean time you could track your shipment via DHL site whereby tracking number will be provided. Its really great that my order arrived in 6 days all the way from US. Even Taobao in China take longer than that (albeit they operate differently).

However do note that taxes may be levied. I did not incur any taxes. I did read some other website that was discussing that if you bought large amount and if its vitamin, they would be susceptible to taxes.

So you might wonder if I have a happy shopping experience when i received my product?

Well the answer is NO. Initially. The reason I am only thinking of writing this post is the outcome of the customer service.

Well everything went of like a dream. It was too perfect and something had to happen! The website was easy to use, the items that I have been aiming for years are within my reach (Hello vanilla essence, the one imported in the dept store is always crazy expensive), the delivery charges are affordable. I was not tax. So everything should be perfect right? Wrong!!

This is how it looks like when it arrived. The moment that i received the box, even without opening it, I know something was wrong. Cause the box reek with Lavender Essential Oil. My Aura Cacia Lavender Essential Oil has leaked! A quarter of the amount was missing.

I was hopping mad! The feeling is like I was really hungry and ordered a Mcdonald delivery and find that my burger has been bitten off. I was also disappointed at how my items are wrapped. Most of the items are glass but not all of them are bubble wrap.

Then I was told that USA has great customer service thus I tried voicing my unhappiness at my delivery.

My essential oil arrived with quarter missing. Arrow shows the difference between the two bottle

I then proceed to describe the overall issue to IHerb with the two photo attach above and requested refund to the affected bottle and was granted a refund. The email is info@iherb.com (you might want to quote your order number). I first correspond via the website.

I was suitably impressed by the response of IHerb and in a way this is a great way for me to see how they evaluate and respond to the situation. And how they responded would determine if I would ever buy from them again.

I notice that the customer service reply me with a refund after a few hours of my email without me needing to send the item back to the USA.

I would definitely buy from them again! Which is why I decided to write down my experience with this great website. I find that a good customer support really bolster return customer.

I like this software because I can choose the video format and its very easy to use. I will usually choose the MP4 High Quality format. After that I will transfer the video to my HTC HD2 without converting the video. I use this method as I do not have any data plan in my phone and I only watch youtube directly when there is a wireless connection.

How to tilt the Samsung Syncmaster B2230 forward or backward tutorial

I read in their official website and from other users that this Samsung B2230 has a tilt function. However I was a little puzzled how to tilt the Samsung B2230. This is because the connector to the LCD look seamless and it does not look like it can budge. I tried pushing here and there but nothing move. On the first few attempts of pushing the lcd, it blink and there was no image. I could not find a solution on how does the other users manage to tilt the LCD. Was a little apprehensive that I will break the LCD after a few tries but in the end manage to tilt it. Enlarge the top photo to see the summary.

How to tilt the Samsung B2230.
-Stand in front of the LCD
-Right hand: Grip the Stand Connector (pink colour)
-Left hand: Grip the top of the lcd (green colour)
Stabilize the LCD by gripping the connector tightly with your right hand.
Using your left hand push the lcd backward bravely and carefully.

It look seamless like it wont budge. Picture shows that it tilt forward.

HTC HD2 Barely There Cases. In the photo you notice that this casing protect the camera lense

I bought this HD2 case from Funan IT Mall. I couldnt find the casing in JB. Fearing that my new phone will get any scratches, I went into Singapore to find the casing. First destination is Funan IT Mall. There wasnt much choices there. They have those plastic/rubber type of casing which has a rectangular hole at the camera area. I notice that the camera of HD2 jut out a little and I was a little apprehensive getting those normal rubber/plastic texture casing. They cost about $12-15.

I then finally found this casing some where around the 1st or 2nd floor phone accessories shop. For your info there was a limited number of shops selling phone accessories at Funan IT Mall. In fact I notice that the business is monopolize by 1 or 2 shops.

In the shop they only have 2 choices of casing from Case Mate that also protect the camera lens. The price of the casing is really expensive at $42.90 (SGD) and there is strictly no discount. Compare to the official website of Case mate, they only cost $19.90 (USD).

I bought this expensive casing because its impact resistant, free screen protector and looks more reliable than the usual cheaper casing. However please note that the casing is very snug and hug tightly to the phone. This can be a problem if you wanted to change battery, reset the phone or take out the sd memory card. Just yesterday I have to force out the casing just to take out the battery when the phone hang.

Another reason I was at Funan IT Mall is because they have the original accessories of HD2. I did not buy their accessories as the design is rather disappointing. The authorize dealer of HD2 accessories only sell a normal transparent cover. However their leather case looks reliable.

HTC HD2 Barely There Cases. You can also treat the casing as a mirror.

After buying the casing at Funan, I took the MRT and went to Toa Payoh for dinner. My heart sank when I see a few phone shops selling the HTC HD2 casing -those non branded rubber/plastic texture- for only $10 (SGD) with camera lense protection in various color. Conclusion is that if you do not mind getting those non branded casing with camera protection at cheap price, please proceed to Toa Payoh. But if you wanted something reliable then go for those casing with brand.

I bought my Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3000 from Notebook.com Pte Ltd. They charge me $60 + 7% gov tax.

Previously I did not buy from Grex as it is price at RM195. If you do the maths, the one sold at Grex Multimedia is more expensive by approximately RM42. So i was happy at the good price that I get from Singapore. But beware although the keyboard is cheap (compare with Grex - other JB pc shop price might be cheaper), some of the accessories are still cheaper in Malaysia. For example challenger sold their 4gb SanDisk pendrive for $19 but in Malaysia its sold for RM30. So its best to do some home work if you have the time.

Both the keyboard and mouse is really beautiful. I also saw the Microsoft Wireless Desktop 5000. The shape and size is also fantastic. But since i have a budget, i stick with my Wireless Desktop 3000.

Both the keyboard and mouse each uses 2 battery size AA. In the packaging they have provided 4 Energizer batteries. The white color pendrive in the picture is the "Snap-in Mini-Transceiver" of the mouse and keyboard. I was told that the primary receiver of the keyboard is the mouse followed by the Transceiver. If you plan to be away and wanted to save battery then you can take out the transceiver and snap it into the mouse. There is also a battery symbol at the edge of the keyboard to indicate the battery level. So far I am happy with its performance. I like it that i can bring the mouse to my bed and I can control the computer at a distance.

HTC HD2 - How to convert video to resolution 480 x 800 tutorial

Picture shows the result of converting to 480 x 800. You can see the subtitle clearly. Using the wrong resolution will cost part of the video especially the subtitle to be crop out.

I just bought the HTC HD2. The screen is really big at 4.3 inch. I bought it because i wanted to watch video. When I first started using it I have a big problem looking for the right video converter software at 480 x 800 resolution. I tried various software and manage to get one that is perfect for HD2 video converting.

The software i use is Xilisoft software. They do not have the option to specifically convert video for HD2 mobile phones but they can convert 480 x 800 resolution using other phone setting. I trial and error many times with different software and finally hit the right one software. I wanted to find the exact resolution for HD2 as I wanted to watch japanese anime with subtitles. If i use other resolution then the video size will be crop and I will not be able to view the subtitle.

How to convert to video resolution 480 x 800.
1. Go to Profile - Android - Nexus One Mpeg
2. Under video codec change the Video Size to 800 x 480.
3. Add files. You can add single or multiple files
4. Convert.

I like this software because its easy to use, can add multiple files quickly and let it convert while i sleep. Plus most of all it has the resolution that i required for HD2.

My modem is protected also. Insert the phone in Input. Output is the cable to the modem.

4 plugs. If you notice there is only 1 switch. A little annoying that there is only 1 switch when I only wanted to restart certain switch at times like my modem when there is suddenly no internet connection.

Links below shows the review when they claim the Belkin warranty. Looks like we should not take for granted that if we have the surge protector that we should be 100% assured that our electrical components will not be fried from lightning. All the user below use more expensive models than me and their computer still has been fried. The claims are valued base on the current market price of your equipment. And general comment is that we should call the local Malaysia office at 1800 81 2076 or +60 3 7983 3010 instead of the international number that route to India or Philippines. Hem... not sure how i am goin to claim mine when i stay in JB though...............

Beautiful design with touch screen features

Something different about this LCD as oppose to my BenQ model is the touch screen feature.The button shown:Menu button/Magic bright/Brigtness/Auto Adjustment/ On off button. They look really stylish and beautiful but the part that i dont like is that I need to find the off button in the dark before i sleep.

Magic Eco is a power saving mode. You can adjust 50/75/100% power saving.
Magic angle. You can adjust in the menu whether you are lying down, sitting, standing. Basically you can see the screen clearly from every angle.
1080 HD: Support Full HD
70 000 Dynamic Contrast which is rather high compare to the other competitors.
Soft power off: Consume 0.3walt of power during standby mode. Normally its 45walts. So you can save electricity.

Beautiful design with great display and touch screen buttons. Full HD with 70,000:1 Dynamic Contrast . Can be viewed in every angle plus power saving mode. This LCD is a great buy!

Bought new gadget due to lightning strike

One day while coming back from work at 7pm I realize that my 19 inch LCD is not working, my modem has only 1 light blinking and my network card has busted. The funny thing is that my dad has already switch off all the plugs at 5pm that day and that on the same day I read the newspaper that there is an ang moh saying that we are quiet ignorant when our country has lots of lightning strike in Malaysia. Looks like even though the plug have been switch off, the lightning still travels from the phone/modem line. Good thing my CPU is relatively working. I use the word relatively as it is still working but now it takes longer time to load. So i am not sure whether there is anything wrong with the CPU.

Now that my electrical gadget has busted and the sadness has dissipated, its time for shopping! I have wanted to fix a wireless connection for a long time and upgrade my LCD but never really got a chance to upgrade since my present ones are working fine till now.

Bought a D-Link Wireless Modem Router DSL-2640T, TP-Link 54Mbps Wireless USB Adapter TL-WN321G and a Samsung B2230 LCD. Price for the modem is RM175 bought from Grex Multimedia which is more expensive than PC Fair price of around RM168. For the TP Link Wireless USB adapter bought for RM38. The price is reasonable compare to Belkin which is around RM50 for the same type of models. The Samsung LCD bought for RM539. Also bought a surge protector this time. I bought the Surge Strip Surge Protector from Belkin - Economy series for RM59 from E Cube Trading. Interestingly Grex Multimedia sold the same surge protector more expensive by about RM10-RM20. This is to share which shop to avoid if you decide to buy any PC equipment. All in all I spend RM811 as a result of a lightning strike. Moral of the story, better be save then sorry pls buy a good surge protector!!

Atm fraud is on the rise these days. How does it happen and how do we prevent our precious money from being stolen? Below method is called skimming and i found this post in this website. Its posted by one of their member name Tariq.

As you can see the key pad is a key logging device to capture your password. The slot is to capture the data from your manatic trip. When they capture the data from your magnatic strip they can create a fake atm card and withraw money from the pin stolen. This video from youtube (ATM SKIMMING) will also give you a clearer idea.

Be careful, your bank account could be taken for a ride!

Debit and Credit (bank) cards fraud and theft is on the rise. "Skimming" is a term used for the theft of credit card information. While the definition is not new and has been in electronic driven world for sometime now, yet the practice is growin in Oman (and worldwide) now. These are the pictures of the skimming devices used on some of the ATMs machine in Oman that were detected and already reported. According to some realible sources, the set of devices to the ROP were given for investigation and analysis.

7 Tips that might help

1. Always use the same ATM as far as possible!
2. You are more likely to spot any tampering if you are using a familiar ATM machine!
3. Be vigilant and observant to notice anything different about your ATM!
4. Most ATM keyboards are set within the body and are not protruding above the base! Check to be sure.
5. The card slots are also set within the body of the ATM machine and not protruding above it! Check this also.
6. Look out for miniature cameras stuck to the ATM top that can photograph your PIN code entry!
7. Shield your hand with a paper sheet or envelope and enter the PIN code under this cover!

Hi, hope that if u read this blog and u have done the surgery, can u guys share the results of it? Can you kindly comment on anything concerning the results of y0ur surgery? It can be the good, bad, share ur experience, tips and recommendation. Feel free to share ur thoughts.

Ok. I shall comment first =)

My result at optimax JB branch is good. I choose custom lasik. Left side astigmatism 25 and right power is zero. I had the astig due to over correction. I can see very clearly though there is presence of astigmatism. Its amazing that after surgery, i slept and when i wake up i can see perfectly. Beginning i have slight dry eyes and my eyes hurt when i see bright light. But now 11 months later, both this effects are minimal. People at the centre were very helpfull and they answer my question patiently. However though the skill of doctor are good considering my results, the doctor lack a certain tender loving care. Was quite scared during surgery as part of the time i could not see what is being done while my eyes was being lasered and i freak out a little. And cos i could not see i did not realize that i start to "fall asleep"!

6 months check up~last and final check up

I had my six months check up on February. The result of my eyes is that left astigmatism 25 and right power is zero. Apparently my left eye has astigmatism due to over correction. But i am ok with that as I can see very clearly. Some people ask me especially lovely ppl who read my blog, "wont u want it perfect since u pay a lot for it?" Well just so you know, lasik does not guarantee a perfect results and u can see this in Optimax term and condition. Further you will not know the result of eye surgery until u done it. But before u decide to go u can weight the "possible" side effect u could have. Eg if ur tear duct is dry then u will have higher risk of getting dry eyes and if ur pupil is long then u can get halos and starburst. The risk of halos and starburst can be reduce by opting for customize treatment. Gentle reminder to all, everyone will get different result on the lasik.

Now the dry eyes effect that i had is practically gone. My eyes does not hurt so much when i see bright light.

Oh~~ i cant help fall in love with this singer~ here is a rare fantastic voice by gary cao. This particular song was so nice that it make my hair stand and I have goosebumps all over my arms~!! He can sing so well and so sincerely that he make me want to cry~ below are two version of the song. The first one is live in NTU Singapore and the second is the MTV. I remember him well cos i went to his mini concert in Malacca and he wow me away with his voice~ he is from Malaysia and he has an attitude of a handsome prince charming (as oppose to awkward new comer) when he moves around and greet his fans~ i cant help sighing away when he sings~ haha.... it seems that he can sing up to 16 tone of do...re...mi...fa...so...la... well u get wat i mean~

Chapter 4: Other ppl's expectation
1. IF U WANT TO INFLUENCE OTHERS THEN COMPLIMENT THEM! You dont have to be a crawler. Neither must u heap upon them litanies of of insincere or false compliments. Simply recognize their good point and let them know. They will remember you. We all need recognition and praise. Our appetite for praise are the same as our appetite for food - it is never satisfied for long. We will never get enough of praise. Eg Peter send his car for repair and told the boss, "u have the most beautiful workshop i have ever seen. It is clean and organise. It is a joy to come here and it is a credit to u." The boss was bowled over. For 20 yrs he had been putting his heart and soul but no one ever complimented him. Some ppl are embarass when u praise them but they are actually glowing inside. Why praise always work? Imagine a business man who are self assure, confident and smart. But on the inside he might be insecure about the part of him that might-not-be-good-enough. Therefore when u say something obvious to u like, "u r very successfull n u should be proud of ur achievement," it comes as a breath of fresh air. He will be overjoyed! SECOND HAND PRAISE-another option for praising others. Ppl are delighted when their fren or families praise them. It is also effective if u r buying someone service for the first time. A good way to start a friendship is to say, "Bob tells me u are the best gardener/mechanic around...", "My boss say u noe more about this machine than anybody else..." Firstly they will appreciate the recognition then next they will want to live up to the reputation.

2.TALKING - PEOPLE FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE IF THEY FEEL U R A BIT LIKE THEM. If u have things in common, they can identify with u and sense that u understand them. If u a) find things in common, b) care and c)be human then u will chat quite easily with other ppl.

Finding things in common. When u meet somebody new,they are wondering if u have things in common. Your challenge is to find out the similarities. PEOPLE WHO TURN OTHER OFF ARE ALWAYS FINDING DIFFERENCE. Their message is i m richer, more successful, interesting and i disagree with everything u say. Conversation with this kind of ppl will go like this: You: This salmon r wonderful. Him: this salmon give me hives. You: I am going to france this summer. HIm: My dog died in France.

Striking a common note with ppl is a skill u develop by making the effort to share something of yourself and being aware enough to uncover common interest.

Caring. Think of the last time u r talking to someone and they dont look like they are intersted. R u irritated? Other ppl can sense also if u do the same thing to them. To attract others we have to care about them. When we are vitally interested in someone it is rarely a problem to keep the converstion going. When we care we forget about ourself. We stop wondering, "wat m i going to say next?" There are no more those long uneasy silence. Caring means putting ourselves in the other person shoe and say "u tell me ur story"

Listening. Next time u are talking to someone take note and see if they are listening to u. Do they absorb every word u say or do they keep looking over their shoulder and watch? Do they ever repeat what they think u say just to check that they understand or r they just waiting for u to shut ur mouth so they can talk? Think about it. Dont u like it when ppl give u his total attention? Well the next person u speak to will no doubt feel the same. LISTENING WITHOUT JUDGING. Speak to any failing partner and they will make remarks like, "We dont talk anymore...", "there is no communication in the marriage...", "My father just wont listen..." THe recurring theme is LISTENING. With loved one it is so crucial. Not only do we listen but we also have to listen without judging. We are all so vulnerable. We need at least one person whom we can share our deepest concern and the person will say, "I love and accept u no matter wat."If we fear that when we expose our feeling and the person say, "shame on u" or "u are disgusting." Eventually u will drift apart.

3. DO WHAT U SAY. Do what u promise. Most ppl dont do what they say. They say they will do all kind of things and dont didnt deliver. How often do u hear ppl say, "I will ring u" and they dont, say "I am going to get fit" and they get fat, say "i will help u when i can" when u noe they wont. When we begin mean what we say, other people will: trust us, we consider carefully before we commit, honest, avoid unwanted situation and begin to like ourselves better. WHEN U TAKE NO NOTICE OF WAT U SAY, THEN OTHER PPL WILL TAKE NO NOTICE OF U. So how do u become a person of ur word? YOU MAKE CHOICES, ADMIT TO THEM AND STICK TO THEM. When a neighbor invite u for a drink, u were thinking that u will die instead of go there but u reply her, "sounds great i really hope i can make it!" Instead be honest and say, "Thank u for thinking about me but i wont be there this afternoon." Be tactfull, respect ur own wishes, state ur case and dont feel guilty for being true to yourself.

4. Everybody want respect. Eg: Mary thought that she always do all the housework and Jim (husband) never did anything for the house. She ask Jim to pick up the dry cleaning but Jim forget on his way home and she got angry and thought Jim dont care. Fact is she is not angry that he didnt pick up the laundry but that he did not respect her wishes (although he might have a valid reason). Ways to show respect: 1.LISTEN. Listening indicate respect, 2. EMPHATISE. Let the person knows he appreciate how she feels... "You must feel really upset that the one time u ask me to help out, i let u down! It must seem to u that i dont care less.", 3. IDENTIFY. Find a common ground, "If the situation reverse i will feel just like u," or "i dont blaim u for being upset, i would too." 4. WHAT WOULD U LIKE ME TO DO? When a irate ppl think that u dont care and u ask them wat would u like me to do then they will probably ask u to drive across town to take the laundry now. However when an irate person think that u care then their demand will dissolve. SO WHEN CAN I GIVE EXCUSE? u can give them after u emphathy. Eg: "darling u must b angry that i am 2 hrs late for our wedding. But someone stole my car"

In a nutshell, in dealing with angry ppl, FACTS dont work but care and respect work. LISTEN, EMPHATISE AND GIVE RESPECT then most ppl wont give u trouble.

5. TELL PPL HOW U FEEL. Eg if u love ur parent tell them how u feel. Dont wait till too late. Other ppl cant read ur feeling. Once they noe how u feel then ur relationship will improve.

6. PEOPLE NEED SPACE. Husband Jim want to go fishing and told his wife that he is going alone. Sometimes the best way to get along with others is to be absent.

This is a few usefull tips from Andrew Matthew book: Making friends. Part 3/6.

Chapter 3: Simplify your life
1. Dealing with ppl who impose. Have u ever had ppl arrive at ur door step who didn't know when to leave? Maybe they stay 4 in the morning or till xmas. We need to be comfortable about saying, "this isn't convenient..." Some ppl will bore u to death with endless story that you have heard many times. Have respect for yourself and while being polite, feel comfortable to say, "Frank, i appreciate u telling me this story. It may surprise u to know that u have told me this story before," or "I don't have time right now. Can u jt give me the essential story?" SOME PPL TAKE DELIGHT IN MAKING U FEEL GUILTY... "If it weren't for u... u are letting me down... after all i have done for u..." Guilt is destructive. Don't buy it. Draw attention to what they are doing and ask them outright, "U aren't trying to make me feel guilty, are u?" Usually they get the message and quit.

2. ASSERT YOURSELF. Where do u draw the line between being assertive and agressive behavior? When we assert ourself it is best to treat others with respect. You have a better chance in getting result if u complain one at a time. Eg: u eat too much, sleep too much,sober up, get a job... Fix the eating first and negotiate from there. Having learn to say no, remember there are times when it pays to accomodate others. It is important to strike a harmonious balance.
Guideline in being assertive:
a) Be objective: When u complain a situation, dont exaggerate and hurl blaime. Eg. A smoker beside u in air plane, "Your smoke is blowing in my face while i am eating. Will u be so kind as not to smoke?" its better than "take ur dirty habit outside" technique. Too often we like to say, "You ALWAYS." "You NEVER listen!" Such generalisation offend ppl. Similarly we must be fair and accurate in our assesment - "your filthy smoke is choking me" is an exageration.

b)Be clear of wat u want: "I would like to c the manager of the store immediately." Tell ppl specifically. Vague instruction like "smarten up!" or "learn some manners!" or "stop ripping me off" dont help

c)State consequence: If u lower down ur volume. I will make sure tat i will lower mine the next time i had a party. Talk in term of "positive if u do" instead of "negative if u don't."

3. DO U ALWAYS SEEK APPROVAL? Worrying about wat others think of us are a habit hard to break but there are tragic result if we dont break it. Often sensible ppl sentence themselves to a lifetime at a job that they hate, reasoning, "What will ppl say if i left this secure job?" Mothers confide, "all my life i wanted to..." Children labour thru years of university study to please their parents... "I hate this course, but if i quit, my parents will go bananas" It is sad but our greatest achievement is to step outside our comfort zones and doing what the mass are not doing.

4. Be ur own judge. The only way to escape GUILT MANIPULATION by others is to be ur own judge. Eg: Mother says, " I am very ill this morning. Would u stop wat u are doing and go to the supermarket for me?" [Message: I am sick and if u dont help me then it means u are uncaring.] You can say tat "Perhaps the shopping can wait a little mum. This is very important." Bf: "If u really love me then u will sleep with me." You can say that, "I appreaciate u belief i shd sleep with u but my view is..."

Trick in dealing with salesman: Act like a BROKEN MACHINE. In every sentence repeat that "i dont want to buy ur dictionary" When using the broken machine method keep voice calm, monotone and cool. Your aim is not to offend the person. Agree with the person when possible. "I agree i seem uncaring but i dont want to buy the dictionary." Further, use the same words for the impact will be stronger. And lastly be persistent.

COUNTERING MANIPULATION WITH QUESTION. This is use when broken record is not appropriate. 1 or 2 incisive q will show that u wont be push around. Eg: If u are a fren, u will lend me money. You: Why would a fren neccessarily lend u money? Him: cost i need it. You: I am sure u do, are u saying i am not a fren if i dont lend u money? Him: well... no.

This is part 2 of Making Friends by Andrew Matthew (self development book). I find his book really inspiring. If u feel the same way too then do urself a favor to read it. The book have many more eg and elaboration that will make u understand better :D

Chapter 2: Sorting Yourself Out
1. The distance we keep. Quit playing games. No one can make it all alone, though sometimes we fake it. We pretend we can. But there are no prizes for spending a lifetime playing games saying, "I m ok. I dont need anyone." Jane think, "i would call bob up but i dont want to let him think i like him." Bob thinks, "i am mad about Jane but i could never tell her." They spend weekend themselves, proud and lonely. There is no shame in finding someone else to be attractive or good company. But u tell yourself that I DONT WANT TO BE HURT... Sure u MIGHT b shattered but keep it in mind that we give everything we had.

2. YOU DECIDE HOW U FEEL. Misery is contagious. Sometimes people will even insist that you should be depressed. Eg my house are burgled and some cash are gone. After initial upsetting realisation that my house are burgled, i refuse to let the burgler wreck my day. But guess wat is the biggest prob? Other ppl want me to feel depressed. My fren Jim found out and insist that i shd be disturbed. "I heard ur house are burgled. You must feel terrible". I said, "Jim u heard we are burgled and i guess u noe all the facts. U also noe that i like to put unpleasantness behind me as soon as i can, so thk u for ur concern and let me tell u abt something much more intersting......" Jim in turn tell more of my frens and they in turn gave the same reaction as Jim. Often others mean well but manage to help u feel worse. IT IS UP TO U TO DECIDE HOW YOU FEEL. Have u been working all day and someone say, "gee u must be tired!" Being tired is the last thing on ur mind till u are reminded. Ppl will tell u frm time to time, "U shd be upset," "Times are tough," "Life is a bummer," "Work is a pain in the neck." Tell yourself quietly, "That is their reality, and i respect it, and i may choose to talk with them about it - but i refuse to adopt it. I CHOOSE HOW I FEEL

This book is great~!Its mainly about communicating with ppl~ Most of the points make sense. I hope to share with you all~ Do try to read the actual book as it is written in a very interesting way. I will be writting in chapters form. Total there is 6 chapter.

Chapter 1: You and others
1. WE ALL GET NERVOUS. Most ppl are more scared than we are. Eg: You spot a glamorous girl call Jane in a party and u think that she is calm and confident but in Jane's mind she is wondering whether, "Does ppl think its weird that i am sitting by myself or am i unattractive." Sometimes we think that WE ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Few ppl have confidence that they appear to have. Eg: u have neighbour that u never talk to and conclude they are snob. In actual u were frighten to say hello and figure THEY have prob. They were scared to say hello cos they reasoned YOU had a prob.

2. When we have bad habit we are the last to know. If u want to improve then ask the ppl u can trust. Tell them that u want to improve urself and want their total honesty.

3. If we ONLY SEE OUR FAULTS, WE EXPECT THAT OTHERS WILL SEE ONLY OUR FAULTS. Eg. u are insecure about ur look and think that ur gf will look for a new bf so u always nag at her. As a result, u are so engrous in ur prob that u forget to care about her. IF U DONT LIKE YOURSELF, YOU WONT BELIEVE THAT ANYONE ELSE WOULD LIKE YOU! So ask urself that, "do u want to lift urself up or pull urself down?" COMPARING OURSELVES IS A TRAP. There will always be someone richer, smarter, wittier than we are. So we need to stop measure ourselves against others but begin by setting goals and target which make sense to us. we measure our growth this year in term of last year.

4. Taking ourselves too seriously. John worn a beard for many years n decide to shave. But he is self conscious about making change and wondered what other ppl will think. When he go to the office no one gave reaction. During lunch he could not stand it any longer and ask, "what do u think of my new look." His fren give him a blank stare and say that he had a new mustache. THINGS THAT ARE HUGELY IMPORTANT TO US DONT MATTER A JOT TO OTHERS. Brian has a pimple his nose and hid in his hse 4 a week. Who cares?
