The holidays are coming. What will the men be wearing to show off their style? Navy blue and pink are a hot combination. If you have a cool complexion, go ahead and try it out. Bow-ties are a nice addition to an outfit, but a few things to keep in mind. If you choose to wear a bow-tie, be mindful of your neck size. If you are a heavy set man with a broad neck and a full stomach perhaps wearing a tie is a better alternative. The vertical line created by the tie can actually take pounds off as the eye will be drawn to the floor, thus creating length and slimming down the frame. The width of a bow tie will cause the eyes to move horizontally and if your neck is already broad, it will only look broader. Another trick to "shed pounds" in seconds is to consider a body slimming undershirt like the one sold by Ardyss International representative Sheniese Charles.

In terms of coordination, when coordinating your bow tie or tie with the rest of your look, try to avoid being matchy matchy. Squares and shirts do not have to be an exact match with your bow tie or tie. It is far more flattering to play up a colour from the tie/bow-tie than matching the colours perfectly. Also choosing contrasting colours that compliment each other is a smart way to dress.

Wow. Did I ever have a good time at the Retro Style Lab this past Sunday. The event was chock full of stylish vintage vendors, fabulous fashionistas, talented artists and socialites who know how to have a good time.

I hope you can make it next time around. It is a must attend.

Congrats to Tamika Auwai for being a fantastic socialite that is doing her thing to give Fashionista's and everyday socialites a fashionable reason to get together.

Retro Style Lab- Vintage glamour anyone?

O.k, so Tamika Auwai does it again. The owner of luxe socialite shopping brand Shopsocials.com has put together an event that any vintage loving Diva cannot afford to miss. I know I will be there, as a matter of fact I am going to be a vendor. If you follow my Facebook posts I told folks about my Aunt Iris's closet that I had the pleasure of de-cluttering a couple months back. I spent half of the time de-cluttering and the other half modeling some of the gorgeous unworn clothing items she had left over from the 70's and 80's. Not quite vintage--but seriously retro. At that moment we knew that we had to have a vintage clothing sale. In comes Tamika, with her fabulous idea to throw a Retro Style Lab and the mission is accomplished.

As a vendor, we will have on sale gorgeous wool pants, silk blouses, knit dresses, wool and tweed pencil skirts...and belts galore. I couldn't keep all of that goodness to myself, I simply had to share.

DIVA THRIFT STYLE CHALLENGE--Where oh where do you get your wares?

Ok with 2 more days to this challenge I am sensing that some of the fabulous Fashionista's could use a little bit of guidance. Here is a list of thrift shopping locations that I highly recommend. I know you only have two days, but hey if you really are a Diva you can move mountains. If you can move mountains then the most you need is a few hours, $100, 5 inch heels and a whole lot of ferocity while you're trotting through the stores to find your goodies. O.k, so maybe not all Diva's are going to appreciate the 5 inch heels, but you catch the drift...right?

Let's get started....

Goodwill 'Glam' Boutique (aka. Goodwill): They have locations throughout Ontario. The items are second hand but sometimes you might get lucky and find pieces that have never been worn. Check out their website to find a location near you.

Savvy Salvation Army Boutique (aka/ Salvation Army): It should feel really good to know that not only are you leaving a few extra dollars in your bank account, you are also giving back to a worthy cause. When you support the Salvation army you are putting money into a charity that helps the most vulnerable members of society. Good on you Diva!!

Thrift Diva's Paradise: (aka) Value Village: If you are a regular thrift shopper, you probably already have every Value Village location's floor plan etched in your brain. You just don't mess around to find a good deal. So you know what I mean when I say this is a Thrift Diva's paradise. Visit their website to find a location near you.

In addition to the major thrift retailers here are a list of small local thrift, vintage and or consignment boutiques.

I especially love Cabaret Vintage, The Way We Were (Georgetown).

I have heard great things about My Sisters Closet (Milton) and Twice Is Nice (Port Credit)

Also Think Twice (Mississauga) is having a closing sale, not sure what they have but it may be worth the try.

Want a modern thrifty find, check out a Joe Fresh or Walmart (one should never underestimate George) location near you . I promise that you will not be disappointed.

On average, 445 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every week.
On average, 100 Canadian women will die of breast cancer every week.

Probability of developing or dying from breast cancer

One in 9 women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime and one in 28 will die of it.

Trends in breast cancer

Breast cancer incidence rose steadily from 1980 to the early 1990s, partly because of increased mammography screening. Breast cancer death rates have declined in every age group since at least the mid 1980s."

If you know me you know that I have an old soul. I just find clothing that is timeless and glamours is forever delightful. I grew up with women that fancied large hats, sparkling brooches, silk blouses, lady like satchels and elegant clothing overall. I am thrilled that the 70's is on trend because truthfully the clothing of this era are pieces you can wear consistently for decades to come.
