Warner Bros TV has hired Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship to develop a script for a potential CW series based on the DC comics character, Naomi McDuffie. The show's logline reads,

Naomi follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.

Variety is reporting that Florence Pugh, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Vera Farmiga, Alaqua Cox, and Zahn McClarnon have joined Marvel's Hawkeye series. They will play Yelena Belova, "Kazi," Jack Duquesne, Eleanor Bishop, Maya Lopez, and William Lopez, respectively. Rumors that Hailee Steinfeld would take the role of Kate Bishop were seemingly confirmed yesterday by various paparazzi/fan photos of location filming.

Black Lightning to End Next Season

The CW has announced that the upcoming fourth season of Black Lightning will be its last. A reason for the cancellation has not yet been given, but showrunner Salim Akil issued the following statement.

When we first started the Black Lighting journey, I knew that Jefferson Pierce and his family of powerful Black Women would be a unique addition to the super hero genre. The love that Blerds and all comic book fans around the globe have shown this series over the past three seasons proved what we imagined, Black People Want To See Themselves in all their complexities. Thank you to the phenomenal cast, writers and crew without whom none of this would’ve been possible. I'm incredibly proud of the work we’ve been able to do and the moments we've been able to create in bringing DC's first African-American family of super heroes to life for the culture. I'm very grateful to Peter Roth, Warner Bros. TV, Mark Pedowitz, The CW Network and Greg Berlanti for their partnership and support of my vision at every step of this journey. DC is developing yet another TV series for the CW, this one about a new version of Wonder Girl, according to Deadline. The lead character is Yara Flor, daughter of an Amazon warrior and a Brazilian river god, who will make her comicbook debut next year in the Future State range. The series will be executive produced by Dailyn Rodriguez, David Madden, Greg Berlanti, and Sarah Schechter. A lead actress has not been cast at this time.

Marvel has announced that WandaVision will premiere in 2021, after all (January 15, to be precise). The series was originally announced for spring 2021, before being pushed to late 2020, and is now back to 2021.

Doctor Who Begins Filming Series 13

The BBC has announced the start of production on the thirteenth season of Doctor Who. The COVID-19 safety protocols in place mean that filming takes longer, so the studio has reduced the episode count to eight (not counting the upcoming "Revolution of the Daleks," but possibly counting the holiday special after that). Showrunner Chris Chibnall commented,

In this strangest of years, the Doctor Who production team have worked wonders to get the show back into production. We’re thrilled to be back making the show. Given the complexity of making Doctor Who, and with new and rigorous COVID working protocols, it’s going to take us a little longer to film each episode, meaning we expect to end up with eight episodes, rather than the usual 11. But rest assured, the ambition, humor, fun and scares you expect from Doctor Who will all still be firmly in place. For everyone around the world, this is a challenging period – but the Doctor never shirks from a challenge!

Executive producer Matt Strevens said,

We are so thrilled to have unlocked the TARDIS, dusted down the sonic and be able to start filming again for the next season of Doctor Who. The amazing production team, crew and cast have worked wonders to get us shooting again in these challenging times. Chyler Leigh to Direct Supergirl Episode

Actress Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers) is set to direct an episode of Supergirl, according to information from the Director's Guild. Her episode is the third to film of the next season and will air sometime next year. (Thanks to Twitter user @yvrshoots for the heads-up.)
