Making straight hair curly is not a new hair style idea. Women in ancient Egypt coated their hair in mud, wound it around wooden rods and then used the heat from the sun to create the curls. Waves that won't wash out are a more recent innovation. Modern perms were pioneered by A F Willat, who invented the "cold permanent wave" technique in 1934. Since then, improved formulations and ever more sophisticated techniques have made perm the most versatile option in hair style.

How Hair Perm works

Perm works by breaking down inner structures in your hair and reforming them around a curler to give a new shape. Hair should be washed prior to perming as this causes the scales on the cuticles to rise gently, allowing the perming lotion to enter the hair shaft more quickly. The perming lotion alters the Kertin and breaks down the sulphur bonds that link the fibre like cells together in the inner layers of each hair. When these fibres have become loose, they can be formed into a new shape, when the hair is stretched over a curler or a perming rod.
Once the curlers or rods are in place, more lotion is applied and the perm is left to develop to fix the new shape. The development time can vary according to the condition and texture of the hair. When the development is complete, the changed links in the hair are re-formed into their new shape by the application of a second chemical known as the neutralizer. The neutralizer contains an oxidizing agent that is effectively responsible for closing up the broken links and producing the wave or curl permanently.
The type of curl that is produced depends on a number of factors. The size of the curler is perhaps the most important as this determines the size of the curl. Generally speaking the smaller the curler the smaller and therefore tighter the curl, whereas medium to large curlers tends to give a much looser effect. The strength of lotion used can also make a difference, as can the texture and type of hair. Hair in good condition takes a perm much better than hair in poor condition and fine hair curls more easily than coarse hair.
After a perm it takes 48 hours for the keratin in the hair to harden naturally. During this time the hair is vulnerable to damage and must be treated with care. Resist shampooing, brushing, vigorous combing, blow drying or set ting, any of which may cause the perm to drop.
Once hair has been permed it remains curly and shaped the way it has been formed, although new growth will be straight. As time goes by the curl can soften and if the hair is long its weight may make the curl and the wave appear much looser.

Perming is such a delicate operation that many women prefer to leave it in the hands of experienced, professional hair dressers. The advantages of having hair permed in a salon are several. Normal Skin Type

This type of skin has a clear, fine textured, supple and smooth surface which is neither greasy nor dry. It glows with an inner health which stems from good blood circulation and excellent health. The only care it requires is cleaning it twice a day with a mild baby soap and water.

At night, to keep your skin's normal moisture balance apply a thin film of homemade moisturizer. Any time your skin becomes slightly oily or slightly dry in any area correct these tendencies by following the advice given elsewhere regarding these types of skin.

Dry Skin Type

Dry skin has a parched look caused by its inability to retain moisture. A dry skin is a fine-textured skin and is prone to wrinkles and chapping. It is often a greater problem in cold weather than in warm weather. Use a mild soap for cleansing the skin; follow a bath or a shower with a mild application of baby oil. Massage your face with homemade nourishing cream every night before retiring. Be generous with the cream in the areas surrounding the eyes where tiny lines and crows feet are born. Avoid coming in contact with highly alkaline soaps and detergents like washing sodas and powders which contain highly alkaline and drying ingredients. Every morning 15 minutes before taking your bath, mix with the egg yolk one teaspoon each of orange juice, olive oil and a few drops each of rose water and lime juice. Another beauty mask is made up of one egg mixed into one teaspoon of honey, half teaspoon of olive oil and a few drops of rose water.

If you can afford it once a week take a milk bath. It will not only nourish and smoothen your skin but at the same time it will also soothe your tense nerves and refresh you. War your bath water and put in 250 gram of powdered milk, half tablespoon of almond oil and a few drops of your favorite perfume. Then just lie in it and let your mind favorite perfume. If your lips chap, peel or crack then best remedy is to massage them with a little cream of milk to which a few drops each of rose water and lime juice has been added every night before going to bed.

Before applying lipstick, use a soft piece of towelling material for removing rough bits of chapped skin and rub a piece of raw beetroot gently on them. After applying lipstick add a little vaseline to keep your lips soft and pretty.

Oily Skin Type

Often a chronically oily skin has coarse pores and pimples and other embarrassing blemishes. If you have an excessively oily skin, take a diet rich in proteins but restricted in sugar, fluids and salt. Also take plenty of leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits. Pork and fried and highly seasoned foods should be avoided. Have your blood brought up to par by the suitable administration of necessary vitamins, iron and similar substances. Besides taking internal care of yourself you should also take equal care of yourself externally. Half an hour before taking your bath apply on your face half teaspoon each of time and cucumber juice mixed together. If it is excessively oily, mix in a few drops of eau de Cologne.

This not only helps keep oiliness away but also helps in refining the pores of the skin by acting as astringent, thereby preventing acne. You must have experienced the problem of your disguise becoming patchy either on the forehead, chin or nose due to excessive oiliness in these areas. To avoid this, apply a little cucumber juice on the excessively oily parts of our face, dry thoroughly and then apply your makeup. But if your whole face turns patchy after disguise is applied on it, then apply equal parts of lime juice and witch-hazel. Dry well before putting on your makeup.

Combination Skin Type

Combination skin is a combination of both oily and dry skin. There is a greasy centre panel consisting of nose, forehead and chin and a dry panel consisting of cheeks, mouth and the areas around the eyes. Withered Skin

This type of skin has a very rough texture usually full of wrinkles. It is due mainly to over-exposure to extremes of climate such as too much sun or too much cold. To protect yourself from falling a victim to such a skin always use sunscreen lotions or creams whenever you go outdoors for any length of time. Do not use soap; always clean your face with milk cream; it would be a good idea to dispense with soap completely. Use moisturizing cream at night. In the morning half an hour before taking bath, take an egg white and mix in one tablespoon of honey and one-fourth teaspoon of carrot juice. Remove with cotton-wool soaked in warm water (to which a dash of soda bicarbonate has been added) after half an hour. This will remove roughness and wrinkles from the skin. Add two tablespoons of olive oil to the water in the tub before taking your bath. Use moisture-laden disguise base in all the seasons and a creamy lipstick.

Chapped Skin

Chapped skin has a rough texture which sometimes causes the skin to crack. If the cracks develop on your skin then every day at bedtime take the white of an egg, mix in one ground almond and apply on the face. When the skin feels dry, wash of with water and apply homemade nourishing cream. Also avoid the use of soap completely, because soap dissolves the fats from the skin and takes them away from the surface. Instead clean your skin with gram flour made into a paste with milk cream. Half an hour before you take your bath massage yourself either with warm olive, mustard or coconut oil. After bathing blot yourself dry; do not rub vigorously with a bath towel.

Apply homemade cold cream every night before retiring. It is a good idea either to use cold or nourishing cream every night after crossing the age of 25 if you want to cherish the youthful loveliness of a flawless complexion. Do not wear woollens or other rough clothing next to your skin because these have been known to aggravate itching and scaling. Always wear white cotton clothes next to your skinover these you can wear your woollens. If you have developed scales the best remedy is to take a saline bath. Add six pounds of sodium chloride (table salt or rock salt) to 2'> gallons of warm water in a tub. Soak in this water for about 15 to 20 minutes twice daily. Blot dry, then massage gently either with almond or olive oil. This simple treatment often brings about a great reduction in chapping and scaling" At the same time it gives considerable relief from itching; but this treatment should only be taken if you are in excellent physical health.

Smoky eyes come in many different colors these days from grays and
black, to purple, blues and browns. . It has been said you must use
dark and neutral colors, like dark grays or blacks. But not so true in
today’s modern world. When you really think about it, smoky eyes
are the bedroom eyes of the sirens of yesteryear. The sirens of the
past all had a signature look that even you yourself can create.

Your basic smoky eyes take only a few items to create with.
Two eye shadow colors that are in the same family of color. Grays work
well with black or another shade of gray. Dark colors are the norm,
not forgetting you need one color to contrast the other.
You must have eyeliner! Either liquid eyeliner, pencil or just use
the dark color eye shadow as eyeliner but eyeliner is a must
have. Along with a black mascara and if you want your lashes to be
way out there, don’t forget Hollywood’s secret weapon Magic Lash!
Works better than false lashes and just easier to work with.

Also don’t forget your basic tools of smoky eye creating, two makeup
brushes, one to apply your eye shadows and one to blend/smudge
with. A smaller tip makeup brush works great adding depth to your
crease as well as applying eye shadow to be used as eyeliner. Q-tips
are great to have on hand as well. As well as a eyelash curler
to really open your eyes with.

Other items you could use if you really wanted, a makeup primer to keep
your eye shadows in place, concealer under your eyes to lighten up

In your 20’s using liquid eyeliner is truly fun to go bold with. Paint a black

touching it. While in your 20’s smoky eyes can be easily pulled off
using this dramatic effect without looking like a clown.

In your 30’s black liquid eyeliner maybe too harsh for you. Not counting

To save money these days many are turning back the clock so to speak,
to the times of their mother, grandmothers, great
grandmothers. Back to the time when skincare began in the kitchen.
Here are 6 do it yourself recipes for natural kitchen you can whip together
with ingredients found in most modern kitchens.
Almond Honey Face Masque
Beat the yolk of 4 eggs with 1 cup of honey. Then mix in 1 cup sweet
almond oil with 4 ounces blanched and ground almond to make a
thick paste. Massage into your skin leave on 30 minutes. Wash off
with warm water and pat dry.
For the whole body.
Black Tea Body Masque
1 ¼ cups water
2 black tea bags
1 tablespoon chopped sage leaves
1 tablespoon thyme leaves
½ packet unflavored gelatin
½ teaspoon honey
¼ teaspoon almond extract
½ teaspoon peppermint extract
Bring the water to boil in a saucepan, add the tea bags, sage, thyme.
Reduce the heat and simmer for 25 minutes. Remove from the heat
and cool slightly. Stir in gelatin, honey and almond & peppermint
extracts. Let sit in the refrigerator for 8 to 12 hours or until firm. It
should have a gelatinous consistency. Apply to the body,
smoothing mixture evenly over skin. Double the recipe to do the
whole body. It makes about 1 cup. Leave on for 15 minutes then
rinse with warm water. After you rinse your body will feel
toned, refreshed with a smoother, tighter appearance.
The next recipe is remove dead skin cells from your skin. It’s a scrub with
pineapple. Did you know that pineapple is a natural gentle
exfoliant and a anti-inflammatory?
Tropical Fruit Masque
½ cup chopped fresh pineapple
1 whole apple(cored and chopped leaving skin on)
¼ cup finely ground almonds
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon lime juice
½ banana
1 teaspoon almond extract
½ packet unflavored gelatin
In a blender, mix all the ingredients except gelatin on medium speed for
20 seconds. Add gelatin and blend for another 20 seconds. Let
the mixture sit for at least 10 minutes giving the gelatin to set
slightly. Apply evenly to the entire face and neck area. Leave on for
15 to 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. May be used twice
a week as needed. Makes 1 cup
Cucumber Toner
Take 1/2 cucumber and cut it up into rounds after peeling it, place in a
bowl with enough lemon or lime juice. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
Remove from bowl and gently rub cucumber all over your
face. Be sure to not get it anywhere near your eyes. Leave on for 30
minutes. Wash off with warm water. This treatment will leave
your skin tighter, and soft and smooth.
Apricot Milk Bath
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons olive oil. Mix together and let it sit for about 1 hour.
Then mix in:
1 teaspoon cider apple vinegar
2 tablespoons witch hazel
and the juice of 3 apricots, put together in a blender with a small carton of
unflavored yogurt.
Stir in 2 beaten eggs, and ½ pint of milk and put it all through the
blender. Blend a minute or so and add the another ½ pint of milk.
Pour into a plastic bottle and keep in the refrigerator till bath
time. Add about one cup per bath, this should last you 6 baths.
Nail treatments
To strengthen your nails, soak them daily for 5 minutes in warm almond
or olive oil. Discolored? Clean them in lemon juice and scrub them in
white vinegar.

Before trying these recipes do a patch test to be sure you do react to any
of the ingredients used.
To do a patch test, create the recipe and apply a small amount to the skin
on the inside of your arm and wait 24 hours. Always remember
you are the one responsible for making the product and
you are responsible for one’s safely!

shadow over it. Long lasting tends not to flake like liquid can.
Liquid – gives the most dramatic look of all the types, quick drying, needs
a steady hand. Can flake.
Gel- used like a liquid or cake but can easier to apply, its long lasting,
apply with a brush.

Softer the pencil the more likely it will disappear quicker.

Do invest in a good sharpener for your pencil eyeliner, nothing worse than
trying to sharpen it with a kitchen knife!
Now that you got a idea what pencil eyeliners are all about, how about a
color tip?

Your eyeliner should harmonize with your eye shadows, but it doesn’t have
to match exactly. Even though black eyeliner is the biggest
seller and worn by more women overall, it’s not a natural look.

Blue eyes? Look for a eyeliner in shades of navy, it helps bring out the
white in your eyes making you look more awake. Violet shade will
also work as well.
Brown eyes? Use a dark brown eyeliner bronze to really make your eyes
pop!
Green eyes? Try brown, gold or even olive to bring out the green in your
eyes!
Off to a party? That’s when you can have fun with your eyeliners! Try
silver or crazy colors with glitter!

Lasting thoughts about pencil eyeliners. There are some who use eyeliners
in the waterline.. I don’t recommend it but if you do, pencils
are the easiest to use when applying it in the waterline. Now
