Carbsane aka the bloated blogger complains of Ad hominem attacks !

Posted: 22 Apr 2014 03:41 AM PDT

Surfing around the internet you get to see it all, especially on US health and diet related sites. Well know serial stalker, and self confessed morbidly obese Evelyn Kocur aka Carbsane, has attacked countless people on her blog. Just about every well know blogger in the low carb and paleo world has been rubbished by EK. One thing i will never understand is how a morbidly obese person, has the effrontery to comment on others, with weight problems and act as authority on weight loss and diets. As you can see below, EK believes she can rubbish anyone 24/7 but when people comment on her, she shows her true colours, she can dish it out, but squeals like a stuffed pig when the tables are turned. Note this "Maybe I'll just drop Tess or Galina's real full names into every other post here until she comes out or Eddie shuts up or both or whatever" Does the bloated one think I will back down to blackmail ? She is more deranged than I thought if she believes that's going to happen. She can't get to me, so she threatens my friends. And this behaviour from a School Teacher, how standards have dropped in the world of education. Still, in this world you get what you pay for.

Eddie

Posted by EK yesterday in a comment link below.

"Oh lordie I'd recognize Galina Bedeveled's fake broken English anywhere. Last time it was loose skin. I'm surprised she doesn't address that guy as Eeddie, though she seems to have learned to spell Jimmy ... for years he was Jemmy. Can't wait for her next comment on how her advises landed a young lady in the hospital with ketoacidosis over on Nurse Natalie's wee wee pad. It would appear old NV has an "out wish" these days. I'm happy to assist if she'd like, but the Menlo Park Mall Sephora is a bit out of my way (grin). Maybe I'll just drop Tess or Galina's real full names into every other post here until she comes out or Eddie shuts up or both or whatever.

If you really believe in your cause folks, blog about it, bring the science, go for it. Ad hominem attacks on me aren't going to bring you anything but the wrong kind of attention at this point. But it would appear that's what "Jane Plain" wants, because there is no other explanation for her reckless behavior."

The last troll that turned up here tried to test me, he's not around any more. Some say I ate him with a wonderful selection of non starchy vegetables, and a couple of bottles of very memorable Barolo. Mind you, you can't always believe what you read on blogs and forums. Tell me Charlie, have the lambs stopped screaming in the night? Now you run along now Charlie, fly fly fly.

A Non-calorie-restricted Low-carbohydrate Diet is Effective as an Alternative Therapy for Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Posted: 21 Apr 2014 03:10 PM PDT

Absract

Objective Although caloric restriction is a widely used intervention to reduce body weight and insulin resistance, many patients are unable to comply with such dietary therapy for long periods. The clinical effectiveness of low-carbohydrate diets was recently described in a position statement of Diabetes UK and a scientific review conducted by the American Diabetes Association. However, randomised trials of dietary interventions in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes are scarce. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the effects of a non-calorie-restricted, low-carbohydrate diet in Japanese patients unable to adhere to a calorie-restricted diet.

Methods The enrolled patients were randomly allocated to receive a conventional calorie-restricted diet or low-carbohydrate diet. The patients received consultations every two months from a registered dietician for six months. We compared the effects of the two dietary interventions on glycaemic control and metabolic profiles.

Results The HbA1c levels decreased significantly from baseline to six months in the low-carbohydrate diet group (baseline 7.6±0.4%, six months 7.0±0.7%, p=0.03) but not in the calorie-restricted group (baseline 7.7±0.6%, six months 7.5±1.0%, n.s.), (between-group comparison, p=0.03). The patients in the former group also experienced improvements in their triglyceride levels, without experiencing any major adverse effects or a decline in the quality of life.

Conclusion Our findings suggest that a low-carbohydrate diet is effective in lowering the HbA1c and triglyceride levels in patients with type 2 diabetes who are unable to adhere to a calorie-restricted diet.

Eggs Mimosa with Artichoke Tapenade

Posted: 21 Apr 2014 07:29 AM PDT

Here's a new recipe from the fantastic Simply Recipes site, low carb easy to make and no doubt delicious, it's on our list to try soon, especially with the summer upon us. Full recipe and instructions here.

"Since most of the egg yolks are used to create the mimosa affect, we need to stuff the egg whites with something else. For this recipe we use an artichoke tapenade, made with artichoke hearts, green olives, capers, fresh herbs, and some mayonnaise to bind it all together. I've also tossed some grated Parmesan into the mixture, because it just tastes good with the artichokes. You can leave it out if you want."

Don't you just love the simplicity of fresh whole foods and the low carb lifestyle.

All the best

DCUK Quote of the week !

Posted: 21 Apr 2014 07:19 AM PDT

"The (not very) funny thing is that my entire life I struggled to keep my weight in check with HCLF regimes, and a horrible struggle it was too. I was constantly hungry, and sometimes I couldn't sleep because of it. Dante's Inferno had nothing over my carbs cravings.

Then I was diagnosed as diabetic, and I started following the LCHF regime to manage my blood sugar, weight loss being the last thing in my mind. Imagine how dumbfounded I was when not only my blood sugar improved enormously, but weight started falling off me like if I were melting.

The big lesson to take out of this is: fat doesn't make you fat."

BLOG: Mr Cameron Playing the Religious Card

By highlighting Christian 'virtues' of responsibility, hard work, charity, compassion, humility - is he suggesting that other groups don't have those virtues? If so most people will not believe him. If he is acknowledging (in among the rather confusing language) that most people share these virtues - again, why highlight the Christians? Many Christians are indeed hard-working, compassionate and modest but so are many non-Christians and even many people with no faith! Christians do not have the monopoly on being moral and doing good...

The Low Carb Diabetic

The Low Carb Diabetic

Carbsane stooge and acolyte 'Lighthouse Keeper' has a lot to learn !

Posted: 21 Apr 2014 06:15 AM PDT

Over at Evelyn Kocur's asylum for the failed, obese and nothing better to do's, one of her regular stooges Lighthouse Keeper said this yesterday.

"Eddie resides in the low carb foothills alongside cranks and nutritional hypochondriacs such as the "It's the wooo" blogger. From these environs he snipes and takes pot shots at registered dietitians and other medical professionals who do not conform to his fringe views."

"Low carb foothills alongside cranks and nutritional hypochondriacs" So if being a confirmed type two diabetic makes me a hypochondriac, I'm your man. The medical profession regards diabetes as a chronic disease, nuff said. Kocur et al kick low carbing at every opportunity, but most of her posts and comments received posted by her posse, of pussies, clearly demonstrate they have not even the basics understood. So busy are they trying to impress each other with high brow pseudo science, and taking prominent low carbers down, they have completely lost the plot, that is if they ever had a clue in the first place.

One thing is an established fact, the queen bee is morbidly obese and the drones never stop droning. As for taking pot shots at dietitians and medical professionals, I am guilty. But my defence is that most medical professionals know next to nothing about diabetes control and the published NHS audits prove that to be a fact. Also, when a dietitian tells a diabetic to base their meals on starchy carbohydrates, they too prove they are clueless. How ironic a man that hides in the shadows as an anon and uses the cover name of Lighthouse keeper, should be such a dim bulb, it was ever thus.

My idea of a low carb diet that will improve health for all, especially a diabetic.

When you hear the drivel talked about the low carb lifestyle, you have to wonder about the mentality of the naysayers. They make comments such as "it's dangerous and unhealthy" or "no-one can stick to it in the long term". They talk of diseases such as scurvy, osteoporosis and conditions like bowel disorders and lack of energy, the list of negative comments is long. If the naysayers were just your run of the mill bloggers or forum members, lack of understanding about what constitutes as a good healthy diet, would be understandable, but so much dross comes from the medical profession. Many dietitians seem to be particularly lacking in sound dietary knowledge.

These are the foods I live on. Looking at a typical plate of food I eat, vegetables cover around half of the plate, the kind of vegetables in the picture, only starchy vegetables like potatoes are not included.

The remainder of my food plate contains fresh meat

Or fish

The remainder of my food and a large percentage of my calories come from healthy fats

Small amounts of low carb fruits also feature in my daily food intake

This video was put up on the bloated bloggers thread yesterday as a wind up. Looks like my sort of grub. May not be your idea of good food, but it keeps my blood glucose numbers non diabetic, gives me a good lipid profile, and stable weight. Of course, if you are a carboholic with no self control, zero self discipline, and are happy staying morbidly obese, and pig out on boxes of Lindt chocolates, Evie probably reckons it's a no no. Check this video out, a very nice guy, low carb and very tasty food. Great for any time of day. Eddie

Monday's Morning Email: Unprecedented Security At Boston Marathon

2014-04-21T07:01:00.001-07:00

By Lauren Weber with Eliot Nelson

The White House killed Tex-Mex Thursdays to promote a healthy work environment. Michelle Obama is a monster. This is THE MORNING EMAIL for Monday, April 21, 2014.

The Scuttlebutt

Security at today's Boston Marathon

A Malaysian Airlines flight made an emergency landing

Baby animals + Prince George = Internet explodes

TOP STORIES

MARATHON MONDAY
"About 36,000 runners have registered for the race — the second-largest field in its history, many of them coming to show support for the event and the city that was shocked by the attack on its signature sporting event." NBC takes a look at the "ring of steel" surrounding the marathon route. The weather is supposed to be terrific, and you can watch the marathon live here. And "as the signs adorning streetlights up and down Boylston Street say, on Monday, 'We run together.'" [AP]

UKRAINIAN EASTER TRUCE DIDN'T LAST LONG
"At least three people were killed in a gunfight in the early hours of Sunday near a Ukrainian city controlled by pro-Russian separatists, shaking an already fragile international accord that was designed to avert a wider conflict." Vice President Joe Biden is en route to Ukraine, where he plans to discuss "international efforts to strengthen Ukraine's economy and energy security and help with constitutional reforms, including next month's presidential election." [Reuters]

SOUTH KOREAN PRESIDENT: FERRY TRAGEDY EQUIVALENT TO 'MURDER'
"Of all the images from the loss of a ferry in the cold waters off the southwest coast of South Korea last week, perhaps none has angered South Koreans more than that of the captain, an orange life vest strapped to his torso, awkwardly stepping off his half-submerged vessel to the safety of a rescue boat, even as hundreds of his passengers remained trapped inside." CNN takes a look at the less-than-honorable captains who haven't stayed with the ship in recent maritime disasters. South Korean President Park Geun-hye said "the captain and some crew members of the sunken ferry committed 'unforgivable, murderous acts' in the disaster, which left more than 300 people dead or missing." And murky waters have made the recovery of the missing near impossible. [Image, story via NYT]

STATESIDE: Precious Cargo
A sixteen-year-old survived a flight to Hawaii in the wheel well of the plane, despite a lack of oxygen. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsberg sought advice on when she should retire after basically saying last year she'd serve 'til she was senile. In other Supremes drama, Antonin Scalia thinks that taxes are too damn high. The White House has upped its fitness game. Four years later, "we haven't started to recover" from the BP oil spill according to Gulf fishermen. And a senator was nearly hit by a train during a press conference promoting train safety. His easel presentation also survived.

In s'mores news, here's a gorilla who can toast his own marshmellows.

INTERNATIONAL INTRIGUE: Spies on Spies on Spies
The State Department has been instrumental in creating "mesh networks" abroad, which are safer for espionage than the open internet. Over 70 school girls are still missing after the massive Nigerian kidnapping; news reports had originally suggested most were returned safely. Malaysian Airlines MH370 Search teams have covered about two-thirds of the suspected crash area to no avail. A Malaysian Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing early this morning after blowing a tire on takeoff. And Edward Snowden regrets appearing with Putin on his Q & A. [Image via NYT]

In struggle news, here are some hilarious tweets about parenting.

BUY! SELL! BUY! We're All Still in High School
The latest documents in the Silicon Valley wage suppression trial show that techies cannot escape high school drama. There are always gonna be Queen B's and wannabes. General Mills reversed its controversial lawsuit-nullifying social media policy. Kraft is recalling 96,000 pounds of hot dogs. Jack Dorsey's Square, the mobile payment company, might soon be on the market. And KFC is going through a game change of its own by bringing back the artery-killing "Double Down."

In 364 days to Easter news, here are some cats loving their bunny friends.

SCOUTING REPORT: Wreckage of 90 MPH Fastballs
This is what it looks like when you get hit by a 90 mph fastball ... in the face. Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, the legendary boxer, is dead at 76. The Nationals' Bryce Harper was benched for lack of hustle this weekend; an awkward development considering the team's programs feature a picture of the boy-wonder titled "nothing but hustle." And the Red Sox's emotionally charged win last night capped off a great weekend of baseball.

In frolicking news, here's a llama loving life.

CULTURE CATCH-UP: FLOTUS Coming to The Small Screen
Michelle Obama is heading to "Nashville." We're excited for the Connie Britton/FLOTUS hair-off. After his script for "The Hateful Eight" was leaked, Quentin Tarentino vowed to never make the film. Turns out he's reconsidered. Here's what it looks like when Jay Z crashes Pharrell's set list at Coachella. And Chris Messina is America's hardest working actor -- you just don't know his name yet.

In best buddies news, here's a husky taking care of his meerkat friend.

LIVIN': Easter Egg Leftover Recipes Galore
Nike just fired most of its fuelband team. Our fuel-counting future is not looking good. Here's some awesome new uses for all those bobby pins you have lying around. Don't be afraid to make a fashion statement with these over the top styles. Here's a bunch of recipe ideas for all of the leftover boiled eggs you have from yesterday. And is your stomach bothering you? Don't worry, it could be the 12 bars of gold you swallowed.

In Westeros news, here's an interactive map of the "Game of Thrones" universe.

OTHER PEOPLE'S BUSINESS: Prince George Goes to the Zoo
Prince George could not have been more adorable at his official trip to the Sydney zoo, but he has some competition from his great-grandma's royal birthday portrait. Tila Tequila is pregnant -- she'll have to layoff her last name. A model published a text allegedly from Terry Richardson that supports the sexual harassment allegations against him, and Vogue says it has no plans to work with the legendary photographer in the near future. Country star Kevin Sharp has died. He was 43. And Lindsay Lohan revealed she had a miscarriage on the series finale of her OWN reality show.

In baby Simba news, here are some cute lion cubs.

Evelyn Kocur aka Carbsane aka the bloated blogger names me in dispatches !

Posted: 19 Apr 2014 11:05 PM PDT

"Just when I thought I was out, they drag me back in" anyone remember that line from The Godfather Al Pacino. For some time I have been thinking of calling it a day on this blog, I mentioned the fact the other day over here. Our website needs re-working and up dating and what I nick name our Cpt. Sensible blog on wordpress also needs a lot of work. The thing is, I may have to stick around in this place a little longer. Imagine my surprise on getting home last night, to find the one and only, legend in her own lunchtime, Evelyn Kocur, had mentioned me several times in her latest thread. Now, I am not going to let it go to my head, but when Evie mentions you in dispatches, it's tantamount to getting the Queens Award to Industry. Just about every person in the Low carb and Paleo world has been slagged off by Evie, and I mean everyone. So, you can see my dilemma, should I ride this latest situation for all it is worth ? or should I let it go ? While I ponder the situation, here is my take on Evie the bloated blogger.

She first came to my attention while listening to a Jimmy Moore podcast linked below. Basically it was a one hour plus rant against Gary Taubes. During the podcast Evie stated how she had lost a shed load of weight, and for the first time in years, had got out of the morbidly obese club, great eh, err no. She suddenly started feeling ill, got checked out and decided her low carb diet was doing her no good, this by the way, coincided with what she called 'cheats' in the form of hitting the Lindt chocolate box with a vengeance, the result, rapidly back to morbid obesity, as she is to the present day.

Now, here's the thing that amazes me, instead of trying something new and getting back to a healthy weight and improving her health, she decided almost everyone in the Low carb and Paleo world was a fraud and a snake oil salesman. She decided to dedicate her life to exposing these charlatans. Without further ado, she set about her mission, for the first time in her life she was gonna be a somebody. She had no interest in helping anyone, how could she ? she couldn't even help herself. The blurred and obviously many years old photographs removed from her blog, that made sense, how can you ridicule people for their appearance and weight problems, when you are the very thick end of 150lbs over weight yourself.

So, back to my mention on the bloated blogger blog, part of her post.

"Eddie doesn't like me too much because I expose the underbelly of his beloved community. I also blog on the science here as regards what type 2 diabetes really is. In his world view, there is only one way to go with that -- VLC and metformin. It's a myopic view shared by many in the low carb community and they must prevent people from being exposed to folks like me who might show you otherwise through credible scientific references."

I do believe for the majority of type two diabetics, a lifestyle change is the best way to go, for the reduction of weight and safe blood glucose control. Check on any diabetes forum, and you will see almost all the success comes via a low carb diet. It's simple, it works and keeps on working. The one downside is the fact it requires some self disciple in the early days. After a short while it becomes second nature. This is the problem which Evie cannot get beyond and probably never will, she has no self discipline regarding food. You must be able to see the irony here, the font of all knowledge dedicates her life to the 'science', rubbishes so many successful people, yet has to hide herself away too ashamed to publish a recent photograph of herself. I cannot think of one serious blogger other than Evie, who has not published photographs of themselves.

So delusional has she become, her hot off the press Magnum Opus book called 'Restriction Addiction' tells us that people with a weight problem and restrict part of their diet to reduce weight, have a mental problem, buy looser clothes a few sizes bigger and learn to love yourself, problem solved. The fact is the Carbsaner blog started by Carol (and ended by Carol due to legal threats I suspect) completely destroyed the shred of credibility Evelyn Kocur may ever have had. One thing is for sure. You can never, ever be a player, or be taken seriously, while you hide in a sewer like a gutless rat, just ask Charles Grashow. At this moment I am thinking of another famous line "It's sad, so sad, it's a sad, sad situation and it's getting more and more absurd" Elton John

Eddie

Link to the latest EK rant at Evil Sugar Radio here.

Low carb diabetic health warning.

Listening to these podcasts requires over two hours of your time. If you have an iron constitution check them out, if you can come back here and convince me this woman is the full ticket I will be staggered. Stand by for the biggest load of bollocks you have ever heard, listening will be one tough job, but what an expose into the mind of the bloated blogger. As Richard Littlejohn often says "You couldn't make it up"

One last point, never forget "There's no business like show business let's go on with the show"

Tom Odell - Can't Pretend

The Low Carb Diabetic

"The Alternative Five-a-Day"

Posted: 19 Apr 2014 03:06 AM PDT

As I write this, it's Friday night, and I'm thinking, so far it's been a good week. One for relaxing and taking time to just enjoy a slower pace. Eddie has even enjoyed some fishing…even better he caught some!

Whilst sitting in the garden of a lovely village pub, earlier this week, drinking a glass of water…well no of course it wasn't…one of our group bought a packet of 'Tyrells' FURROWS Hand Cooked Crisps, mature cheddar cheese & pickled onion flavour …someone said "Oh they're the posh crisps and taste great"

I had to make sure she was correct ! After a few I decided yes they did taste good. Now I'm not usually one to eat crisps so naughty me!!!!!

However, I do like their marketing team. I'm not sure how many of you do read what's on the back of packets, I know I do. On the back of the packet was this wording "The Tyrells Alternative Five-a-Day" and underneath:

"Steamed broccoli, herbal tea, sit ups; nothing terribly wrong with any of those (in moderation). But there is such a thing as taking it too far, you know.

Which is why we came up with our own lifestyle guide, an alternative five-a-day. It's a simple list of things to keep your spirits up. Well it works for us!

A hunk of farmhouse cheddar
A huge helping of pickle
A skip in the woods
A blow on a penny whistle
A bag of Furrows "

For those who check the carb content of what they eat these crisps are 21.5g for a 40g pack …. Now I didn't eat the whole pack, I had a handful …. I was looking forward to my dinner of salmon cooked in a lemon herb butter and served with a selection of green vegetables and buttery mashed swede.. and it was delicious.

Sometimes life just goes well ….and now if I can find the family penny whistle ….I think it's in the drawer …you may just hear me play a tuneful tune. LOL !

I hope you are having a really relaxing Easter weekend

All the best Jan

Joe Schwarcz: It looks like there is something to the Atkins diet after all

Posted: 18 Apr 2014 02:49 PM PDT

Who would have guessed that a song by the Guess Who would become a health anthem? "Silent footsteps crowding me, Sudden darkness but I can see, No sugar tonight in my coffee, No sugar tonight in my tea, No sugar to stand beside me, No sugar to run with me." Not exactly the most brilliant lyrics, but not a bad message.

"No sugar" may be impossible to achieve, but what about just six teaspoons a day? That, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is what we should be striving for if we are to achieve the recommendation of just 5 per cent of calories in our diet being attributed to sugar. We have a way to go, given that Canadians now consume a whopping 26 teaspoons a day.

That of course is an average: teenage boys wolf down about 41 teaspoons, while senior women only about 20.

Where is all this sugar coming from?

A can of sugar-sweetened soft drink has about 10 teaspoons, the same as an equivalent amount of "no sugar added" fruit juice. A smoothie can harbour more than 20 teaspoons, a serving of Fruit Loops about 11 (that's 100 times more than Shredded Wheat), a candy bar around seven and a doughnut four.
Then there is the hidden sugar, like four teaspoons in a serving of tomato soup, and half a teaspoon in a slice of bread.

It isn't hard to see that the sugar adds up. But so what? What's wrong with sugar? After all, it's natural isn't it? And natural substances are better for us than those chemically concocted sweeteners, aren't they? Actually, no. Sugar is a problem.

Of course this has nothing to do with whether sugar is natural or not. It has to do with what it can do as it cruises through our body. Weight gain is an obvious possibility. Extra calories translate into extra weight, and sugar can deliver a lot of extra calories. There are 160 calories in a can of pop. You would have to run at eight kilometres per hour for fifteen minutes to burn that off.

In everyday language, the term "sugar" normally refers to sucrose, the white crystals isolated from sugar cane or sugar beets. But to a chemist, "sugar" can mean any of a number of simple carbohydrates that have a sweet taste. Sucrose is actually composed of two sugars, glucose and fructose joined together. Lactose, the naturally occurring sugar in milk, is made of glucose and galactose. Upon digestion these are broken down into their components, which then enter the bloodstream.

Starch, a carbohydrate composed of many glucose units linked together, is also a source of glucose upon digestion. When it comes to weight gain, the source of the sugars doesn't much matter. Carbohydrates, be they starch or simple sugars, are a problem.

Now, for the first time, a national regulatory agency is poised to tackle the problem. An expert committee that advises the Swedish government has recommended that new guidelines focus on a low-carbohydrate diet as the most effective method for weight loss.

This is a huge turnaround, given that the scientific community has largely dismissed low-carbohydrate diets as fads. However, after taking two years to scrutinize about 16,000 published studies, the Swedish committee concluded that low-carbohydrate diets work, and that, surprisingly, in spite of being high in fat, such diets have no negative effects on blood cholesterol.
