History of Great Revolutionary of India Subhas Chandra Bose or The Forgotten Hero ( born January 23, 1897; presumed to have died August 18, 1945 although this is disputed), popularly known as Netaji (literally "Respected Leader"), was a leader in the Indian independence movement. Bose was elected president of the Indian National Congress for two consecutive terms but had to resign from the post following ideological conflicts with Mahatma Gandhi and after openly attacking Congress foreign and internal policy. Bose believed that Mahatma Gandhi's tactics of non-violence would never be sufficient to secure India's independence, and advocated violent resistance. He established a separate political party, the All India Forward Bloc and continued to call for the full and immediate independence of India from British rule. He was imprisoned by the British authorities 11 times. His stance did not change with the outbreak of the Second World War, which he saw as an opportunity to take advantage of British weakness. At the outset of the war, he went away from India and travelled to the Soviet Union, Germany and Japan, seeking an alliance with the aim of attacking the British in India. With Japanese assistance, he re-organised and later led the Indian National Army, formed from Indian prisoners-of-war and plantation workers from British Malaya, Singapore, and other parts of Southeast Asia, against British forces. With Japanese monetary, political, diplomatic and military assistance, he formed the Azad Hind Government in exile and regrouped and led the Indian National Army in battle against the allies at Imphal and in Burma. His political views and the alliances he made with Nazi and other militarist regimes at war with Britain have been the cause of arguments among historians and politicians, with some accusing him of fascist sympathies, while others in India have been more sympathetic towards the inculcation of realpolitik as a manifesto that guided his social and political choices. Bose advocated complete freedom for India at the earliest, whereas the Congress Committee wanted it in phases, through a Dominion status. Other younger leaders including Jawaharlal Nehru supported Bose and finally at the historic Lahore Congress convention, the Congress had to adopt Purna Swaraj (complete freedom) as its motto. Bhagat Singh's martyrdom and the inability of the Congress leaders to save his life infuriated Bose and he started a movement opposing the Gandhi-Irwin Pact. He was imprisoned and expelled from India. But defying the ban, he came back to India and was imprisoned again. He is presumed to have died on 18 August 1945 in a plane crash over Taiwan. History Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi(1917-1984) was the prime minister of India for three terms, from 1966 to 1977; and fourth term from 1980 to 1984, when she was assasinated in the wake of operation blue star.She is the only female prime minister of India till date, and was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of independent India. Ramanda Swami came to the conclusion that Vitthal was her husband and he had deserted his wife and home. So he told Vitthal to leave the sanyas and follow his duties in his home. This caused Vitthal's expulsion from the Brahmin community as he had reverted back to "Grihastha ahsram" after "Sanyas ashram" , which was the last ashram. Meanwhile, the pious couple had four children. Vitthal tried to get acceptance into the Brahmin community of Paithan but failed, and the couple were told to end their lives. The family went on a pilgrimage and Vitthal and Rukmini jumped into the waters of Prayag at the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna, hoping that their children would get acceptance into the community. The orphaned children lived on alms for a while, and afterwards tried to get acceptance into the community, and were accepted on the condition of celibacy. Nivruttinath took Dnyaneshwar and the other two siblings under his tutelage, and later on not only Dnyaneshwar , but the other three also became highly revered saints in their capacity. Maharana Pratap Singh is believed to be the epitome of fiery Rajput pride and self-respect; he has exemplified the qualities to which Rajputs aspire for centuries. Maharana Pratap Singh was born as the eldest child among 25 brothers and 20 sisters at Kumbhalgarh on May 9, 1540 to Maharana Udai Singh II and Maharani Javanta Bai Songara (Chauhan). Pratap did not want to go against the desire of his father but Rajput nobles convinced him strongly that Jagmal was not capable to rule in the crucial times of the day. It was the beginning of a career of struggle and hardship for Maharana Pratap Singh. Maharana Pratap Singh never believed Akbar as the ruler of India, and kept on fighting with Akbar all his life. Akbar first tried several diplomatic ways to win over Maharana Pratap but nothing really worked. Maharana Pratap Singh maintained that he had no intention to fight with Akbar, however he could not bow down to Akbar and accept him as the ruler. There was some possibility that Maharana Pratap Singh could have become friends with Akbar, but in the invasion for Chittor Akbar had killed around 30,000 civilians, unarmed residents of Chittor only because they refused to convert to Islam. This left an ever-lasting impression on Maharana Pratap Singh`s mind and he adamant not to bow to such an injustice and cruelty.

History Of Kamraj .The person shown on the obverse is Kumaraswami Kamaraj, one of India's political leaders who hailed from the Southern state of Tamil Nadu. Kamaraj was a kingmaker and worked behind the scenes to elevate people like Lal Bahadur shastri and Indira Gandhi to the position of Prime Minister. Kamaraj was born into a family of Nadars, the traditional toddy tapping community in Southern Tamil Nadu, and had little formal education. Politics attracted Kamaraj at an early age after seeing Mohandas Gandhi at a meeting in the nearby temple city of Madurai. Kamaraj quickly joined the Congress party and national resistance against the British colonists. For his protests against the British, Kamaraj was thrown into jail several times and spent eight years in prison. Hailing from a low caste, Kamaraj naturally threw in his lot with the non-Brahmins, who were resentful of the domination of the Brahmins in state politics. Kamaraj became Chief Minister of Madras in 1954, a post he held until 1963. During his stint as Chief Minister, he introduced the mid-day meal scheme for poor children, a step that was later significantly expanded by one of his successors M.G.Ramachandran. Kamaraj became president of the Congress party in 1964 under the so called Kamaraj Plan, which led to several senior Congress ministers in Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet and Chief Ministers resigning so that they could devote their energies to revitalizing the party. Kamaraj is believed to have led a spartan life unlike most Indian politicians for whom politics is just an easy way to feather their nest. Writing in The New York Times, the late Pulitzer Prize winning journalist J.Anthony Lukas described Kamaraj thus: "Kamaraj's real achievement, then, has not been in remaking the party but in manipulating the diverse and disputatious elements within it. His genius lies in dealing with men as they are, not in changing them, and this ability is based on a realistc assessment of human nature." Despite the DMK-Congress (I) alliance, Kamaraj won the 1971 Parliamentary elections from the Nagercoil constituency with 58.37% of the total valid votes polled compared to 31.11% for his DMK rival M.C.Balan. Kamaraj was the sole victor for the Congress (O) in Tamil Nadu. After the 1971 elections, the Congress (O) became completely marginalized in the country and Kamaraj's influence waned considerably. A bachelor, Kamaraj died of a heart attack in Madras (now Chennai) on October 2. This simple man was honored with India's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 1976.

I have heard alot about 'Pig' Rupee But never understood What the hell is this coin .
Some person said see the elephant but it looked same to me .Then why it is very Expensive .
Then i came across an article showing the images of Normal and Pig Rupee Coin.

On the 1911 issues of the Rupee, Half Rupee, Quarter Rupee, Two Anna, and Quarter Anna, Emperor George V was shown wearing the chain of the Order of the Indian Empire. Because of poor engraving, the elephant looked very much like a pig (with its trunk resembling a pig's snout). This offended the religious views of many in India. As a result, most of the infamous 'pig' Rupees were withheld from circulation and melted. Coins issued in the subsequent years had a redesigned elephant.

Grading of Coins Guide Must Read

You normally don't have to worry about grading coins. Grading becomes important only when you start buying and selling, but if you buy or sell face-to-face, grading is not important either. Buyer and seller don't have to agree on condition. They have to agree on price. It is irrelevant and sometimes counterproductive to argue over condition. Conditions are useful only when you can't see the coin, e.g. if you are buying from a mail bid sale or a fixed price list.

Condition depends on wear. To be a good grader, you have to know where wear first occurs: the highest points of the coin. Often these are the band of a crown (especially the jewels), hairline, eyebrows, feathers of birds, fur of animals. The main conditions are:

Uncirculated (UNC) describes a coin as it left the Mint. The metal has its original colour and there is no wear. Sometimes, coins are weakly struck, which looks like wear. This should be described separately. Minted coins are collected and transported in containers. Small scratches (bag marks) therefore appear on the field. This is acceptable for an unc coin.

Extremely fine (EF, in the US XF) wear is noticeable only when looking at the coin from close by. On portraits some wear of facial hair. On most of the coin's surface the original metal colour is still visible.

Very fine (VF) wear is obvious, but the general design of the coin is still clear and detailed. On portraits visible wear on cheekbones, details of hair fairly incomplete on the highest point.

Fine (F) a worn coin, but some detail remains. Portraits are more than silhouettes.

Very Good (VG) no detail remaining. Portraits are slhouettes.

Good (G) silhouettes are incomplete on some points. An ugly coin. Often not collectible.

Fair coin can only be identified with difficulty. Major parts of design gone.

Intermediate grades come in two flavours. Condition may be detailed with a plus or minus sign (e.g. UNC- or VF+; in the US an A is added in stead of a minus: AUNC). Alternatively, a coin may be described as in between grades (VF-EF). The other intermediate grade is when obverse and reverse have a different grade. This is indicated with a slash (VF/EF). As grades are very subjective anyway, the added value of intermediate grade is limited and often doubtful.

Sometimes, minting techniques are confused with grades. They are:

Circulation strike: coins struck with the normal procedures

Brilliant Uncirculated: (BU) as unc, but without bag marks because the coins were collected separately. Today, this is often done for collector's sets

Prooflike: as BU, but struck at lower speed and with more force, giving a very shiny image. Sometimes, the first coins struck with new dies will appear as prooflike.

Proof: as prooflike, but struck with polished die. The result is a matte design on a shiny field.
A proof coin is normally UNC, but if it is mishandled it can be EF proof.
Coins do not advance in condition. They do deteriorate from abuse. Some major forms of abuse are:
- fingerprints. allways hold coins by the edge. Wipe off prints immediately. The acid on your hands (even when just washed) will eat into the metal.
- plastic softener. Found in old plastic coin holders. Coins become "misty" or a green slime develops. Wipe off and stick coin elsewhere
- falling and bumping. Just don't drop coins.
- polishing, especially with silver polish. Destroys natural patina
- cleaning with acid. May be a last resort for coins found with a metal detector, but in general to be avoided.

While many proof coins have the characteristics mentioned above, this is by no means always the case.

Matte proofs, the primary example being those issued in the

Proof coins are struck at least twice with abnormally high pressure using specially prepared dies on polished blanks. As a result the edges are often noticeably sharp compared with the normal mass-produced circulation coins.

The Proof Set contains 2 Coins :100 Rupee (Silver ) and 5 Rupee (Cu) The reverse shows two persons firing a cannon at the bottom and some warriors on horseback flanked by the figures of Bahadur Shah Zafar on the right and Tatya Tope on the left, who were two cogs in the wheel of the war. Bahadur Shah zafar was the last Mughal emperor. He was the ruler of Delhi and was also the weakest link in the revolt. The East India company made its arrival in India during the reign of the Mughal emperor Jahangir at around 1616 AD. They came originally as traders, but slowly and steadily kept expanding their reach and influence. Their aspirations and desires grew in India and one by one, they started to take over different princely states and sultanates by agreement, by deceit, and also by conquest. Many states were taken over through the doctrine of lapse, which stated that any adopted heir was not recognised as a legal heir, and the rulers like rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi thought of this as an interference in the traditional inheritance policy. Unrest grew among the princely states as one by one the British were usurping power from the princes. Most of the practices followed by the British were also not acceptable to the strictly religious Indians. One such practice was the supposed use of pork and beef in bullet cartridges in the enfield rifles that were being given to the Indian sepoys employed by the British. Pork is taboo for Muslims and beef is anathema for Hindus. So Muslims and Hindus both were agitated by the British rule and practices. In march 1857, Mangal Pandey refused to use the enfield rifles that were provided to them and this was the trigger in the outbreak of the revolt, the seeds of which had been fomenting for quite a time. One by one, the different states declared war on the British during that year only. Eminent leaders in the war for independence from British rule included rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi, Tatia Tope, Bahadur Shah Zafar, Tipu Sultan, Rani Chennamma, begum Hazrat Mahal, Nana Saheb Peshwa and the 80 year old Kunwar Singh of Bihar. Most of the revolt was on the part of the aristocracy who were highly insecure because of their reign being taken over by the British. The participation on the part of the zamindars, taluqdars and the peasantry was very limited. Mangal Pandey's fellow regiment men refused to arrest him, but he was unable to incite an open rebellion on their part. He tried to fire himself with his musket for his failure, but only wounded himself. He was later court martialled and hanged. The fallback of the rebellion started by Mangal Pandey was that it was not organized revolt, everyone declared war one by one. Had the revolt broken out in a coordinated manner, the British would have had their hands full. Another reason for the failure of the revolt was the non-participation of the sikhs and the pathans of North West Frontier Province and Punjab. Most people believe that this was because earlier the British had annexed Punjab only because the British had got inside help from Purbias(Bengalis and Marathis- Easterner), and the sepoys were despised far more than the British by these communities at that time. So as a foregone conclusion, the revolt was crushed and every involved person had to face dire consequences. A no prisoner policy was adopted and mass executions were carried out with muskets , and also a large number of people were bound to cannons and blown to bits, like the Namdhari Sikhs. Bahadur shah Zafar was exiled to Rangoon where he died later. Many leaders were blown by cannons, and there was large scale massacre. Women were spared but the men and the children were heartlessly killed. And I am talking of civilians , who did not take part in the revolt. Shockingly, the brutal aftermath of the reconquest was approved and also lauded of back in England as some accounts said the orientals had done wrong to the Europeans there , and that several young European girls were raped by them. Still , some people in the British army themselves did not approve of the inhuman and savage acts of suppression. People like Karl Marx have pointed out that the accounts of Indians acting as uncivilized and brutal people were biased , and in some cases, the person giving the account was not even present at the mentioned event. He had a brief tenure in London in 1878 where he studied law, but then he returned to his home town Calcutta. for many years he had some success in his locality as a writer. His poems were published in a friend's magazine and at times he himself played the characters portrayed in his plays. His work was entirely in Bengali, and needless to say, he was little known outside of his home town, much less outside of India. In 1912, Tagore decided to complete his law studies. His age was 51 at this time and his son accompanied him on his voyage. On the way to London, he started translating his poems into English just to pass his time, and thus compiled some handwritten translations in a notebook. His son left his father's briefcase containing this notebook in London, and as it so happened, it was chanced upon by some honest man, who returned their belongings. On learning about the existence of these translated poems, Rothenstein, who was a famous artist and also Tagore's friend, requested him to let him read the peoms. When a reluctant Tagore finally relented, Rothenstein was astonished by the beauty of the poems, and later talked W.B. Yeats into reading Tagore's work.Perhaps this was the first time some Westerner had got to read poems and stories by some Indian. Yeats was enthralled in the least by the beauty and spirtituality of the poems. He later on wrote the introduction to Gitanjali when it was published in September 1912. In due course of time, both Tagore and his poems became a sensation in London and later on in the whole world. It was no less than a window to the mysticism and the spiritual beauty the East had to offer. Never before had anyone read anything like it. In 1913, Tagore became the first non-Western person to win a Nobel prize for his literary works. Rabindranath Tagore led the opening program of the School of Wisdom in 1920, and participated in several of its programs thereafter. Mahatma Gandhi was born in 1869 in Porbandar in Gujrat, and died in 1948 when he was shot by Nathuram Godse. Mahatma Gandhi was one who preached non-violence in an era of violence, world wars and all and successully led the country to independence through non-violent means like protests etc. The Gandhis belong to the Bania caste and seem to have been originally grocers. But for three generations, from Mahatama Gandhi's grandfather, they have been Prime Ministers in several Kathiawad States. Uttamchand Gandhi, alias Ota Gandhi, was his grandfather. Ota Gandhi married a second time, having lost his first wife. He had four sons by his first wife and two by his second wife.. The fifth of these six brothers was Karamchand Gandhi, alias Kaba Gandhi, and the sixth was Tulsidas Gandhi. Both these brothers were Prime Ministers in Porbandar, one after the other. Kaba Gandhi was Mahatma Gandhi's father. He was a member of the Rajasthanik Court. It is now extinct, but in those days it was a very influential body for settling disputes between the chiefs and their fellow clansmen. Kaba Gandhi married four times in succession, having lost his wife each time by death. He had two daughters by his first and second marriages. His last wife, Putlibai, bore him a daughter and three sons, Mahatma Gandhi being the youngest. Gandhi remained in South Africa for twenty years, suffering imprisonment many times. In 1896, after being attacked and humiliated by white South Africans, Gandhi began to teach a policy of passive resistance to, and non-cooperation with, the South African authorities. Part of the inspiration for this policy came from the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, whose influence on Gandhi was profound. Gandhi also acknowledged his debt to the teachings of Christ and to the 19th-century American writer Henry David Thoreau, especially to Thoreau's famous essay "Civil Disobedience." Gandhi considered the terms passive resistance and civil disobedience inadequate for his purposes, however, and coined another term, Satyagraha (from Sanskrit, "truth and firmness"). During the Boer War, Gandhi organized an ambulance corps for the British army and commanded a Red Cross unit. After the war he returned to his campaign for Indian rights. In 1910, he founded Tolstoy Farm, near Durban, a cooperative colony for Indians. In 1914 the government of the Union of South Africa made important concessions to Gandhi's demands, including recognition of Indian marriages and abolition of the poll tax for them. His work in South Africa complete, he returned to India. Then Gandhi became a leader in a complex struggle, the Indian campaign for home rule. Following World War I, in which he played an active part in recruiting campaigns, Gandhi, again advocating Satyagraha, launched his movement of non-violent resistance to Great Britain. When, in 1919, Parliament passed the Rowlatt Acts, giving the Indian colonial authorities emergency powers to deal with so-called revolutionary activities, Satyagraha spread throughout India, gaining millions of followers. A demonstration against the Rowlatt Acts resulted in a massacre of Indians at Amritsar by British soldiers; in 1920, when the British government failed to make amends, Gandhi proclaimed an organized campaign of non-cooperation. Indians in public office resigned, government agencies such as courts of law were boycotted, and Indian children were withdrawn from government schools. Throughout India, streets were blocked by squatting Indians who refused to rise even when beaten by police. Gandhi was arrested, but the British were soon forced to release him. Gandhi advocate economic independence by boycotting English goods. Gandhi became the international symbol of a free India. He lived a spiritual and ascetic life of prayer, fasting, and meditation. His union with his wife (Kasturba Gandhi) became, as he himself stated, that of a brother and sister. Refusing earthly possessions, he wore the loincloth and shawl of the lowliest Indian and subsisted on vegetables, fruit juices, and goat's milk. Indians revered him as a saint and began to call him Mahatma (great-souled), a title reserved for the greatest sages. By the Indian practice of nonviolence, Gandhi held, Great Britain too would eventually consider violence useless and would leave India. When World War II broke out, the Congress party and Gandhi demanded a declaration of war aims and their application to India. As a reaction to the unsatisfactory response from the British, the party decided not to support Britain in the war unless the country were granted complete and immediate independence. The British refused, offering compromises that were rejected. When Japan entered the war, Gandhi still refused to agree to Indian participation. He was interned in 1942 but was released two years later because of failing health. By 1944 the Indian struggle for independence was in its final stages, the British government having agreed to independence on condition that the two contending nationalist groups, the Muslim League and the Congress party, should resolve their differences. Gandhi stood steadfastly against the partition of India but ultimately had to agree, in the hope that internal peace would be achieved after the Muslim demand for separation had been satisfied. India and Pakistan became separate states when the British granted India its independence in 1947 (see: Tryst with Destiny -- the story of India's independence). During the riots that followed the partition of India, Gandhi pleaded with Hindus and Muslims to live together peacefully. Riots engulfed Calcutta, one of the largest cities in India, and the Mahatma fasted until disturbances ceased. On January 13, 1948, he undertook another successful fast in New Delhi to bring about peace, but on January 30, 12 days after the termination of that fast, as he was on his way to his evening prayer meeting, he was assassinated by a fanatic Hindu, Nathuram Godse. Gandhi's death was regarded as an international catastrophe. His place in humanity was measured not in terms of the 20th century, but in terms of history. A period of mourning was set aside in the United Nations General Assembly, and condolences to India were expressed by all countries. Religious violence soon waned in India and Pakistan, and the teachings of Gandhi came to inspire nonviolent movements elsewhere, notably in the U.S.A. under the civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. and in South Africa under Nelson Mandela. Even though the greatness of Mahatma Gandhi as a leader and his impact on India's and even world's history is indisputable and unquestionable, yet there was a faction of revolutionaries in India who believed that if Gandhi had not been in the picture, there would have been a popular uprising in India and the British would have have thrown out of India long before 1947, when India eventually got its independence.

The obverse of this coin shows the Lion Capital, beneath which the numeral "20"or "10" is given, denoting the coin value , with the words "Bharat" and "rupee" mentioned in Hindi, on one flank, and "India" and "rupee" in English on the other flank of the Lion Capital. In the early 1970s, Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, had laid emphasis on the family planning program to control the rising population of India.She had the view that the growing population is one of the main reason for the growing shortage of food in India.Green Revolution program was started after 1965 to increase the food production needed to make India self-sufficient in food grains but still there was no food for all .Between 1961 and 1971, the country's population increased by 24.8 percent this was an alarming signal for Indira Gandhi and so the Indian Government started a family planning program to control the rising population of India.So that there is food for all. Obv – The obverse of this coin shows an inverted triangle( An inverted Red Triangle is the symbol for family planning health and contraception services in India ).Within the triangle there is a family comprising of a husband,wife ,a son and a daughter.Which was very rare in those days and below the triangle are Two ears of corn leafs appear on either side with ‘1974’ – the year of issue near the apex of the triangle. 1938 British George VI 1 Rupee NGC AU 58 Silver Calcutta Mint Albert Frederick Arthur George (George VI) was the king of England from 11 december 1936 to 6 Feb 1952, when he died. He was the last king of India until 1947, so this is the one of the last coins of British India. George VI 1 rupee was minted for the first time in 1938, in silver. At that time the prices of silver were rising so very soon the metal was switched to half silver. Then in 1939, the second world war started. The mintage of one rupee coins were stopped in that year, so the 1 rupee of 1939 is probably the rarest currency of British India. After that, the mintage of the rupees was continued as usual in half silver for a few years. But all the same, the silver prices kept rising so ultimately the government had to start minting the rupee and other coins in nickel, starting from 1943. In 1938, Rupee was minted in Calcutta, Bombay and Lahore in 0.917 silver, 0.500 silver and Nickel with a reeded edge and later a security edge. There is no mint mark for Calcutta. The Bombay issues have a small dot or diamond on the reverse under the ornate (the lotus flower) near the bottom of the coin .The Lahore mint used a small "L" in the same position. When the composition switched to Nickel in 1947 a completely different reverse (an Indian tiger) was introduced. Above is the 1938 George VI 1 Rupee Silver NGC Certified (AU-58) Almost Unc with No Mint Mark indicating the Coin was minted at Calcutta Mint.This contains .917 grams of silver. There are lot of fakes available for this coin and some are hard to spot so it's better to get certified coin or be 100 % sure when you buy.

This is the best Indian Commerative coin in my opinion.This Proof Set is very rare as Only 2 Proof Sets and One Piedfort was allowed for one Person.(Piedfort is a coin often exactly twice its normal weight and thickness. The name derives from a French word meaning "heavy foot".They are normally not circulated, and only struck for presentation purposes by mint officials for collectors or VIPs. ) In the Year 1979 UNSECO declared the year as the “International Year of the Child”. The proclamation was signed on January 1, 1979. Numerous events took place within the UN and in member countries to mark the event.Event was intended to draw attention to problems that affected children throughout the world, including malnutrition and lack of access to education. Many of these efforts resulted in the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. India and quite a few other countries released a coin in the year 1981 to commemorate the event.
