Today was all about beauty and getting ready for the party weekend, and it's a lot better with good company :) I had in mind a pale pastel pink colour, like Essies "Ballet Slippers" but they didn't have matt OPI polishes. My friend's white choice actually resembles it more then the one I got. I adore all the different names the polish have " Pinking of you","Funny Bunny", "Kiss On the Chic"... check it out.

Then I went to freshen up my old Dubai tan, but I fear 6 minutes wasn't enough. Finally we had lunch at a cute place next to the bourg the four, serving amazing pasta and salads.

I'm enjoying vacation to the fullest. So far I've only had time to take a small round in town, and my ögon, meaning eyes in Swedish stopped at these little things. I'd seen them before in ELLE but I never thought I'd see them here in Switzerland.

It's small, flat, light, organized and made in Sweden. The euro coin dispenser is exactly what one needs when driving across the french autoroutes. It's so neat!

Last day of the vacation is always a bit special and we spent it at La Petite Maison. It was situated in the same area as the quoted benches I blogged about earlier. A warm warm recommendation for this restaurant which been awarded 3 times! Their concept is sharing your plate with your table, so everyone get's a piece of all the goodies. Top quality food and magic drinks...

Madinat near the Burj Al Arab offers a souk, restaurants and shisha bars. Be aware you can't enter anywhere with your little siblings... However, at most hotels ID is not required and alcohol is served after 6pm. After a walk around Madinat, the evening ended at Mina Al Salam's terrasse with a beautiful view of the illuminated Burj Al Arab.

The Atlantis Hotel lies at the tip of the Palm island. This hotel is enormous! That evening I realized how difficult it is to get good pictures in the dark, I better sign up to that photo class I've always wanted to take...

Dinner at Seafire was delicious and the service was great, but the waiters were just way too forward. Waiters for me are supposed to be discrete, something that blends into the background. The restaurant Nobu which lies inside the complex was also on my list of places to go, but there was no time left.

A tour with an abra on the Dubai creek was a great way to see the city from another perspective.

If the shopping malls weren't enough, there's many souks to visit. Notably the gold souk in Deira and the textile souk on the opposite side of the creek.

Lots of things in Dubai have gotten into the Guinness World Records. The world's tallest tower, tallest hotel, largest single arcylic panel aquarium, heaviest gold ring...

Picture cavalcade of the world's tallest tower the Burj Khalifa, and its surroundings. I was recently asked how tall it really is, but I didn't know until I looked it up. It stands proud with 829.84 m, including the antenna. The lights on the Burj Khalifa is syncronized with the fountain performance.

After a long day at the mall, we headed outside to see the Dubai Fountain show. Over a drink and resting our feet, we watched the performance from the terrasse of The Address Downtown. Then we found their fantastic chinese restaurant Hukama on the 6th floor. Right next to the Burj Khalifa, this would have been the ideal place to spend a NYE dinner at... Unfortunately everything was already fully booked :(

World's largest single acrylic panel

Bye bye shopping paradise!

The world's largest shopping mall - The Dubai Mall. It's the size equivalent to 50 soccer pitches!!! Shopping is a fun sport, I ran through all these soccer pitches in one day and it was barely enough. From the long, long list of shops, I went to all those that are hard to find at home: Topshop, Armani Exchange, Seven Jeans, Forever 21, Patrizia Pepe, American Eagle Outfitters.... Thank god they have interactive screens and an iPhone app to lead the shortest way to the store you're looking for.

Al Dawaar Restaurant - Hyatt Regency Dubai

I'm not scared of heights, I love them! In this case not in a plane but on the 25th floor of a skyscraper. This revolving restaurant turned 360 degrees at least 3 times during our lunch. While you're enjoying the food, you slowly move through a panoramic postcard of the fast growing city. What I adore is that each building is different from the other :)

1,2 million people were expected to be around the Burj Khalifa area for NYE. Taxis dropped people off 4km from this point, because it was faster to go by feet. We had our NYE dinner away from city center but still with a view of the fireworks.

Everybody talked about it being "the world's biggest fireworks". But nope. It only lasted 10 minutes, but it was beautiful and different due to it's fitting to the shape of the tower. Geneva wins this one with its 1h show, synchronized music, and different themes each year for Fetes de Genève.

Desert Palm Polo Estate

I had no idea polo was so popular in here in Dubai! We got invited to watch a polo game, and visit the stall with over 350 horses. The stall is equipped with air conditioning and UV lights in the roof for disinfecting and attracting the flies. To the occasion I wore my favorite polo shirt by Vicomte Arthur. I still don't know the rules of this game, but it's fun to look at :)

3 movies is the time it takes to go to Dubai from Geneva. Plus an hour of complications: a missing gate, waiting for stairs, and then for a bus that never came.

The arrival terminal was gigantic, but very proper and full of decorative fountains. This impressivly big terminal was only for the airline"Emirates".

On the first photo of vacation I'm visibly tired and very winter pale. So far I've only slept and eaten. But I do have a schedule of everything I want to see and it starts tomorrow :)

Take off today:) Some are wrapping their christmas gift, but I'm still packing my suitcase. I love traditions, but breaking the routines just makes you appreciate them even more next year. This christmas evening will be on board a plane...in the end what counts is the people you spend it with :) I'll reveal the destination later ;)

My blog turns 5 years today! Back in the day (and still today) I was checking out The Sartorialist as well as swedish fashion journalists blogs on a daily basis. Blogs took Sweden by storm, and anyone could make one. Most people created them even if they only lasted a couple of months, but just to be part of the new blog phenomen. However, here in Switzerland it wasn't the same deal.

I decided start my own. It was exciting and new, and I was at one point on the list "Top 50 travel blogs" in Sweden. At certain times the priorities in life took over and the blog was left alone. Having started it, I never wanted to shut it down or give up on it. The more frequent posts, the more readers and feedback. It just takes a little effort and I still like it:) You never know where it will take you!

Gossip girl, episode: "Rhodes to Perdition"

Almost 10 years ago the first Gossip Girl novels came out. I read all of them. Then I jumped into the show somewhere in the middle, and the whole plot is very different. A friend has lent me the boxes of the first few season so I could catch up!

In the latest season there was a party with the theme disco. As each episode is almost like a fashion show to watch, they definitely follow current trends. Serena changes her hairstyles as often as her clothes. Here she went for big curls and I think it looks so fun and festive. I felt the need for a little renewal :)

Some people are dog-persons, others cat. The dog/cat people probably think it's impossible to have a rabbit as a real pet. It is. Mine moved around freely at home, and loved to follow our every footstep. During meals she would sit under the table. After having one for 9 years, I have a thing for rabbits:)

SX Genève 2009

Genève has lots of annual events: The Motor Show for cars, Ebace for aviation, SIHH for watches, and escalade is a historic celebration for the genevois. Another one, that I only attended once is Supercross. I saw the posters of it happening this weekend again and I got reminded. It easy to feel the adrenalin of the competitors, almost like at a soccer game. The noise of the motors, the music, and people, left traces in my ears long after having left the arena.

December is here! I remember the excitement of being a kid and opening the advent calendar every morning. From readers point of view a blog is similar to an advent calendar. We come back everyday to our favorite blogs in hope to open a new advent window in the form of a new post, a photo or a text or some event or advice, or something re-blogged. From bloggers point of view, blogging becomes part of the daily routine, just like brushing your teeth. Although I have not reached this stage yet :P When I don't blog, I feel a little guilty, as if I had not fed my tamagotchi.

I visited Schillinger and it's packed with christmasy decorations, it just brings you into the mood right away.
